February 18, 2020 THE TRUTH WILL SET US FREE

What do these things have in common? Media. News articles. Posts on the Internet. They all fall into the category of things that may not be true. It is so hard to know what the truth is nowadays. We hear so many things – some which seem ridiculous but are true and some that sound possible but they aren’t true. How can we know the truth? This world is not always trustworthy which means we can’t put our trust in it. Trusting in anything or anyone other than God will be destructive. That is why God tells us to trust in His word as truth and know that His truth will set us free!

SCRIPTURE:
John 8:31-32 “Jesus said to the people who believed in him, ‘You are truly my disciples if you remain faithful to my teachings. And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to remember God’s truth.
2. List how God’s truth can help you.
3. Know this world is full of deceit and deception.
4. Only trust in God for all you need.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You tell us in Hebrews 4:12 that Your word “is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword.” We know Your word is truth and it is all we need to help us in anything we do. We realize this world will lead us down a wrong path if we chose to believe what it tells us. Help us to only trust in You and Your word for direction, strength and insight. We know Your word has all we need. Thank You for Your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
In all we do we need God’s truth that will help us to do what He calls us to do.

2 Timothy 2:15 “Work hard so you can present yourself to God and receive his approval. Be a good worker, one who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly explains the word of truth.” (NLT)

We are to continue to stand firm in God’s truth knowing it is all we need.

Colossians 1:23 “But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News. The Good News has been preached all over the world, and I, Paul, have been appointed as God’s servant to proclaim it.” (NLT)

We are to put on the belt of truth so we can stand firm when we are tempted or when we are challenged.

FOCUS:
Ephesians 6:14a “Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth” (NLT)

February 17, 2020 BE RESPONSIVE

Living in our own little world gets comfortable. We do our own thing and tend to run with the same crowd. However, being responsive to others means we get out of our comfort zone and do the uncomfortable things…until those things become routine. Why would we want to do that? Because we want to respond to God and to others according to God’s word.

God wants us to be like Jesus so we can become spiritually strong. To do that requires time with Him but also time serving and helping others. God gives us what we need to do to build relationships with others in His word. He says show mercy, be kind, have patience, show gentleness. Make allowances for other’s faults. Forgive others. Show love. Seek peace. Be thankful. When we practice these things with all people – even those hard to love – we will build a firm foundation in Christ.

SCRIPTURE:
Colossians 3:12-15 “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others. Above all, clothe yourselves with love, which binds us all together in perfect harmony. And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to show kindness to others.
2. List ways you can practice patience with those who are hard to love.
3. Know God can help you when you pray and read His word.
4. Start today showing kindness, love and forgiveness to others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us to respond to others as Jesus did. We want to show love to others. We want to seek ways to help them. Show us how to truly love others as You do. Help us to show mercy, practice patience, and forgive. We don’t know the situations others deal with but we do know we can offer love and kindness to them. Help us to remember to do this with everyone we see. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We don’t know what issues others are dealing with. We should always respond with kindness and love.

“People don’t always say what they mean – but they always feel what they feel.” RICK WARREN

We are to practice being kind to others and forgiving. We don’t know what they have gone through but we can ask God how we can help them.

Ephesians 4:31-32 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” (NLT)

We are to follow the example of Christ and love all people.

FOCUS:
Ephesians 5:1-2a “Imitate God, therefore, in everything you do, because you are his dear children. Live a life filled with love, following the example of Christ.” (NLT)

Today is the best day to begin making changes for yourself and others both inside and out!

February 16, 2020 OUR WORST ENEMY

We all have enemies. We have people at work or in our personal life that we may believe are out to get us. We may think people intentionally do things or don’t do things just to get even with us or simply because they don’t like us. While that may or may not be true, our worst enemies are not others. We are our own worst enemies. Here’s why…

We fill our minds with things of the world. We think negative thoughts about ourselves. At times, we are selfish, envious and callous. We sometimes get greedy and demanding. We put a lot of bad things into our minds. However, we can change that. When we recognize there is a problem, we can choose to do what is right. We can fill our minds with God’s word and choose to follow Him. We can turn from our negative ways and seek His Light and love that will fill us with all that is good.

SCRIPTURE:
Genesis 4:7 “You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what negative thoughts you have had lately.
2. List ways you may be your own worst enemy.
3. Know God has a better plan for you.
4. Remember God is with you, in you and for you. He wants you to succeed!!

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we can be our own worst enemy. We know we can allow our thoughts to go dark and think bad things which move us away from thinking about You. You tell us in Philippians 4:8 to think on things that are “true, and honorable, and right, and pure, and lovely, and admirable…excellent and worthy of praise.” Help us to focus on You rather than this world. Show us ways to better control our thinking so that we are filling our minds with You and Your word. We pray in Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Isaiah 50:11 “But watch out, you who live in your own light and warm yourselves by your own fires. This is the reward you will receive from me: You will soon fall down in great torment.” (NLT)

Luke 12:15 “Then he said to them, ‘Watch out! Be on your guard against all kinds of greed; life does not consist in an abundance of possessions.’” (NIV)

Luke 21:34 “Watch out! Don’t let your hearts be dulled by carousing and drunkenness, and by the worries of this life. Don’t let that day catch you unaware,” (NLT)

Galatians 5:15 “If you bite and devour each other, watch out or you will be destroyed by each other.” (NIV)

We need to watch out for our own thoughts and actions that can cause us to go down a road of destruction.

FOCUS:
Hebrews 12:15b “Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” (NLT)

February 15, 2020 BE ON THE LOOK OUT

When we are driving, there are warning signs everywhere. Caution lights, yield signs, road barriers, etc. tell us what’s ahead. These signs help us make good decisions on what path to take and how to proceed. In life, however, we don’t have signs in front of us helping us make good decisions when we are interacting with others. We can’t see ahead as we can when we are driving. That is why God gives us His word. We can study it and heed His warnings about life and those who want to harm us. When we go to His word and find out what to watch out for, we will be able to make good decisions and stand firm.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what warning God has given you about others.
2. List things people do to lead others away from God.
3. Know Satan is the one who is truly behind deceitfulness.
4. Stay on guard and watch out for those who try to deceive you.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You will help us make right decisions when we are communicating with others. We pray You will help us to be aware of when we may be getting pulled into something we shouldn’t be doing. We pray You will help us to recognize those who say they are Your followers but are really trying to deceive us for their own personal gain. Help us to recognize when the devil is using others to get us to move away from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We need to be on the look out for those who say they are followers of God but only trying to lead us down a wrong path for their own benefit.

Matthew 7:15 “Watch out for false prophets. They come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ferocious wolves.” (NIV)

We need to be on the look for those who are teaching things contrary to God’s word in an attempt to divide us.

Romans 16:17b “Watch out for people who cause divisions and upset people’s faith by teaching things contrary to what you have been taught. Stay away from them.” (NLT)

We need to remember it is the devil who is behind all the division among us. We should stay alert and watch out for him and warn others as well.

FOCUS:
1 Peter 5:8 “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (NLT)

February 14, 2020 ALL WE NEED IS LOVE

Every year, right after Christmas (sometimes even before), we begin to see hearts and flowers everywhere. We are quickly reminded that Valentine’s Day is coming and to show appreciation to those we love. Many say they don’t need a day to remind them. They say we should show our appreciation and love every day. And that is so true. However, real love – true love – comes from God. Love that never changes. Love that is real. Love that will last forever. That is the love we are to remember and to show to others. Let’s be reminded today to get deeper into God’s word to learn how much He loves us and how He wants us to truly love others. Love means that we take time to spend with God and with others.

SCRIPTURE:
Colossians 3:14 “Love is more important than anything else. It is what ties everything completely together.” (CEV)

1 Corinthians 13:13 “Three things will continue forever: faith, hope, and love. And the greatest of these is love.” (NCV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to experience God’s love.
2. List what He tells you to do love others in 1 Corinthians 13.
3. Know all you need is God’s love.
4. Remember to share His love with others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know the most important thing we can do in life is to love You and love others. Help us to take time every day to reflect on how much You love us. We want to experience Your love in our lives so we can feel Your presence. We want to share the love You describe in Your word with others. Help us to think about Your love all day long and demonstrate it in all we do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Luke 10:27 “You must love the Lord your God with all your heart, all your soul, all your strength, and all your mind.’ And, ‘Love your neighbor as yourself.’” (NLT)

“God didn't put us on earth for a job. He put us on earth to learn to love.” ~Rick Warren

1 Corinthians 13:3 “No matter what I say, what I believe, and what I do, I’m bankrupt without love.” (MSG)

1 John 5:3 “Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome.” (NLT)

2 John 1:6 “Love means doing what God has commanded us, and he has commanded us to love one another, just as you heard from the beginning.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Romans 13:8 “Owe nothing to anyone—except for your obligation to love one another. If you love your neighbor, you will fulfill the requirements of God’s law.” (NLT)

February 13, 2020 SAVING FOR THE FUTURE

In life, we treasure many things. We may treasure our children, our bodies, or our friends. We may treasure our things, our money, or our homes. If we want to know what someone treasures the most we can find out be watching their lifestyle. We can look at our bank accounts to see where we spend most of our money and quickly find out who or what we put first in life. Our actions, time and money will point us to what we focus on most. But God tells us not to store our treasures on earth because we can’t take them with us when we die. We are to store our treasures in Heaven. How do we do that? By following God’s word, giving and sharing with others, and seeking ways to share His word.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Timothy 6:17-19 “Teach those who are rich in this world not to be proud and not to trust in their money, which is so unreliable. Their trust should be in God, who richly gives us all we need for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works and generous to those in need, always being ready to share with others. By doing this they will be storing up their treasure as a good foundation for the future so that they may experience true life.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what your treasures are.
2. List the ways you spend your money and your time.
3. Know God wants you to store your treasures in heaven.
4. Seek ways to give to others and share with those in need.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us to honestly see where we are storing our treasures. We know we can’t grow spiritually and build a firm foundation in You if we are storing up the things of the world. We can’t focus on You and the world at the same time. Help us to remember the things of the earth are only temporary. Show us where we can give and give generously to those in need. Help us to act on opportunities to store our treasures in heaven as You have called us to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to store our treasures in heaven. Whatever we focus on most is our treasure and God knows what it is. It is time we honestly looked at what or who we focus on most.

Matthew 6:19-21 “Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.” (NLT)

If we want to store our treasures in heaven and obey God, we are to give to those in need.

Luke 12:33 “Sell your possessions and give to those in need. This will store up treasure for you in heaven! And the purses of heaven never get old or develop holes. Your treasure will be safe; no thief can steal it and no moth can destroy it.” (NLT)

We are called to share what we have with others and with those in need.

FOCUS:
Acts 2:44-45 “And all the believers met together in one place and shared everything they had. They sold their property and possessions and shared the money with those in need.” (NLT)

February 12, 2020 UNDERSTANDING FREEDOM

When we were teenagers, we couldn’t wait to be free to do whatever we wanted to do. However, we didn’t completely understand freedom. We quickly learned as adults that if we did whatever we wanted to do, we would face many unfortunate consequences.

Freedom is being allowed to do anything we want; however, doing anything we want could lead to us becoming a slave to something or someone. Just look at addicts. They use their freedom to do what they want (drugs, alcohol, sex, etc.) and become slaves to it because they think they can’t live without it.

We have to understand freedom and know we are free but we still need to make wise choices. We have the freedom to follow God’s law. Following His law will allow us to grow stronger and make better choices so we aren’t a slave to anything or anyone. Then we will be truly free.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 6:12 “You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is good for you. And even though ‘I am allowed to do anything,’ I must not become a slave to anything.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what freedoms you have.
2. List how you use your freedoms.
3. Know God gives specific instructions about real freedom.
4. Know you are allowed to do anything but remember to make wise choices.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You give us freedom to do what we want. However, You give us Your word to live by. Help us to remember we are free to choose our own actions but to choose them wisely. We want to make good choices and live according to Your word so we can build a firm foundation in You. Help us to share with others the importance of their freedom and to choose wisely. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
James 1:25 “But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” (NLT)

Galatians 5:1 “So Christ has truly set us free. Now make sure that you stay free, and don’t get tied up again in slavery to the law.” (NLT)

John 8:32 “Then you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” (NIV)

Romans 6:15 “Well then, since God’s grace has set us free from the law, does that mean we can go on sinning? Of course not!” (NLT)

True freedom only comes from God. When we trust in Jesus and follow Him, then we will indeed be free.

FOCUS:
John 8:36 “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (NIV)

February 11, 2020 HOW WE CAN GROW STRONGER

We sometimes think no one understands what we are dealing with. No one understands the temptations we encounter. However, someone does understand. Jesus does. He had to deal with the same issues and temptations we deal with today. We can be comforted knowing Jesus understands and wants us to follow His example. Jesus shows us in His life examples that we don’t have to give in to temptations but instead resist the temptations and resist the devil who is tempting us. We can grow stronger when we resist temptations and draw closer to God.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 4:15 “This High Priest of ours understands our weaknesses, for he faced all of the same testings we do, yet he did not sin.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about a time you were tempted and the actions you took.
2. List the ways Jesus was tempted in Luke 4.
3. Remember Jesus understands temptation and follow His example.
4. Use what you have learned to grow stronger in the Lord.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, You know we are going to be tempted. Even Jesus was tempted. Help us to remember Your word, put on the armor of God, and allow Your Holy Spirit to help us resist temptations. You understand our weaknesses and even know when our next temptation will occur. Help us to plan and prepare now to be ready to resist temptation just like Jesus did. We know we can grow and learn from our temptations. Show us how today, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to remember Jesus dealt with the same issues we have today and still was gentle with others.

Hebrews 5:2 “And he is able to deal gently with ignorant and wayward people because he himself is subject to the same weaknesses.” (NLT)

Jesus was tempted yet never sinned. He used Scripture to fight off the devil. We are to follow His example.

2 Corinthians 5:21 “For God made Christ, who never sinned, to be the offering for our sin, so that we could be made right with God through Christ.” (NLT)

Jesus knows what we need when we suffer or we are tempted. He wants to help us if we will only turn to Him.

FOCUS:
Hebrews 2:18 “Since he himself has gone through suffering and testing, he is able to help us when we are being tested.” (NLT)

February 10, 2020 MINDFULNESS

That is the buzz word in today’s world. Mindfulness. It is about being in the moment and not dwelling on the past or worrying about the future. It promises to lower stress, protect against depression and anxiety, and help us better cope. But wait. Isn’t that what God can do for us? Even on a higher scale? The concept of mindfulness is great. Being present and grateful and not judging in the moment. However, putting God first in this practice would bring even greater benefits and help us to have a firm foundation as we reflect on His presence, His peace, and His love in the moment.

SCRIPTURE:
Isaiah 26:3 “You will keep in perfect peace all who trust in you, all whose thoughts are fixed on you!” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to meditate on God’s word.
2. List ways you can be more mindful of His presence.
3. Know God wants you to stay focused on Him all day long.
4. Remember nothing this world has to offer is as good as God’s plan for your life.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know there are many, many practices this world has to offer us for peace and tranquility. Some are extremely far-fetched and others may appear to be more doable. However, we know meditating on Your word and reflecting on who You are is what we really need to practice. We know if we want to grow spiritually and experience real peace, we need to meditate on You and Your word. Help us to remember this and practice it daily. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
There is nothing in this world that will give us the peace that God can when we choose to reflect on His word and His love for us.

Philippians 4:6-7 “Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (NLT)

We are blessed when we read God’s word and meditate on it.

Psalm 1:1-2 “Blessed is the one who does not walk in step with the wicked or stand in the way that sinners take or sit in the company of mockers, but whose delight is in the law of the Lord, and who meditates on his law day and night.” (NIV)

Be sure to spend daily quiet time with the Lord in prayer and in worship.

FOCUS:
Matthew 6:6 “But when you pray, go away by yourself, shut the door behind you, and pray to your Father in private. Then your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” (NLT)

February 9, 2020 WORSHIP STRENGTHENS US

Many people feel they can be a believer and not go to church. That is true but when we do that we are missing out on so many of God’s blessings. As believers, we should want to fellowship with other believers in the church. We should also desire to worship God publically and privately as the people did in the Bible. Our faith in God strengthens when we do this. We can grow and create a firm foundation in the Lord when we take time to worship Him. When we worship God, we are fellowshipping with Him through the Holy Spirit.

SCRIPTURE:
1 John 2:27 “But you have received the Holy Spirit, and he lives within you, so you don’t need anyone to teach you what is true. For the Spirit teaches you everything you need to know, and what he teaches is true—it is not a lie. So just as he has taught you, remain in fellowship with Christ.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to worship God.
2. List when and where you worship Him.
3. Remember worshiping God in private and public is important.
4. Decide to strengthen your relationship with God and worship Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we are to only worship You. We know when we spend time with You and build our relationship with You, we are doing Your will. Lord, we want to remember to worship You every day. We want to worship You in private and in public. We know we can build a firm foundation in You when we spend daily time with You praising Your name, praying, and thanking You for all You have done. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we aren’t worshipping God and putting Him first in our lives, we are worshipping other gods in this world.

Exodus 20:3 ‘“You must not have any other god but me.” (NLT)

We are to worship God in song praising Him for all that He does and for salvation.

1 Chronicles 16:23 “Let the whole earth sing to the Lord! Each day proclaim the good news that he saves.” (NLT)

We are to worship God in public just as we do in private – free of irritation and disagreement.

FOCUS:
1 Timothy 2:8 “In every place of worship, I want men to pray with holy hands lifted up to God, free from anger and controversy.” (NLT)

February 8, 2020 WORK FOR PEACE

We all want peace in our lives. We want to live in a peaceful home, have a peaceful job and experience a peaceful world. But that just ain’t gonna happen. However, if we want a firm foundation in God, we need to seek peace – inner peace. And that is possible when we put our trust in God and follow His will. God tells us when we seek peace, we will find it. One way we can seek peace is by becoming a peacemaker. We are called to seek peace and work to maintain it. Let’s draw closer to God so we can experience peace.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 12:14 “Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to seek peace.
2. List how you work to maintain peace.
3. Know God is the only answer to peace.
4. Spend time with God daily and seek His peace for a blessed and righteous life.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we are to seek peace. We know we can’t find it in this world. We know we can’t find it in our jobs. We know we can’t find it in our homes. We have to look to You to find peace. We have to seek You to know real peace. Help us to look to You for the peace You want us to have in our lives and work daily to maintain it. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to turn from evil and maintain peace in our lives.

Psalm 34:14 “Turn away from evil and do good. Search for peace, and work to maintain it.” (NLT)

When we practice peace, we will live righteous lives.

James 3:18 “And those who are peacemakers will plant seeds of peace and reap a harvest of righteousness.” (NLT)

When we seek peace and work to maintain it, we will be blessed.

FOCUS:
Matthew 5:9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be called children of God.” (NIV)

February 7, 2020 GET OUT OF THE SLUMP

Without hope, we can’t do much at all. When we feel all is lost, we tend to neglect doing what is important in life. We get down and out. We mope around feeling sorry for ourselves and we may even blame others. To stay out of a slump, most people have hope in something or someone. However, if our hope is in anything other than God, we will find ourselves in that slump time and time again. Our prayer for ourselves and for others is to be completely filled with hope in God – confident hope – knowing He is with us, for us and in us enabling us to build a firm foundation in Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 15:13 “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about a time you lost hope.
2. List what or who let you down.
3. Know you should only put your hope in God.
4. Build a firm foundation in God by putting confident hope in Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for the hope You give to us. We can look back at the miracles You did in the past. We can read about the promises You fulfilled to Your people. We can even remember the great things You have done for us. Remind us to reflect back on Your greatness and keep a confident hope in You. We want to have a firm foundation and we know that confident hope in You will help us to build just that. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We should pray for ourselves and others to be flooded with God’s light so we can receive the confident hope He has for us.

Ephesians 1:18 “I pray that your hearts will be flooded with light so that you can understand the confident hope he has given to those he called—his holy people who are his rich and glorious inheritance.” (NLT)

We need to remain confident in God and keep our hope in Him – always.

Hebrews 3:6 “But Christ, as the Son, is in charge of God’s entire house. And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.” (NLT)

We can rejoice knowing God is always with us, for us and in us. When we trust in Him, we can have confident hope knowing He will help us.

FOCUS:
Romans 12:12 “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” (NLT)

February 6, 2020 GOOD WORKS

Actions speak louder than words. Many people make promises yet don’t deliver. They don’t follow through. Their words become meaningless and their credibility is lost. The actions we take and the work we do matters. It matters to God and to others. When we are stand firm in God’s word and take action to help others, both God and people notice. God wants us to have a plan to do His will and follow through. We are not saved by our good works; however, if we are saved we should want to do good work for God.

SCRIPTURE:
Acts 20:24 “But my life is worth nothing to me unless I use it for finishing the work assigned me by the Lord Jesus—the work of telling others the Good News about the wonderful grace of God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what good works you do.
2. List ways you help those in need.
3. Know God wants you to do good works.
4. Seek His word and ask Him what He wants you to do and get busy.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank you for the talents and skills You have given to us. Help us, we pray, not to be lazy but stay busy doing Your will. We know we sometimes struggle and spend time doing meaningless tasks. Help us to see where You want us to work and serve others. Help us to stand firm in doing Your will so we are living a life that pleases You and helps others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God created us to do good works and continue doing these good works until He returns.

Philippians 1:6 “And I am certain that God, who began the good work within you, will continue his work until it is finally finished on the day when Christ Jesus returns.” (NLT)

We are to stay busy with our hands and seek ways to serve others by doing good works.

Ephesians 4:28 “use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need.” (NLT)

God had plans for us before we were ever born. It is His desire that we stay firm doing the work He created us to do.

FOCUS:
Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (NLT)

February 5, 2020 THERE IS A BETTER CHOICE

We make decisions daily. We decide to do something or not do anything. We decide how we will do it and where and when and with who. We make snap decisions and sometimes we think about things before we decide. Making good choices in life is imperative for a long and successful life. The best way to make good choices is with God. When we read His word, pray and seek godly counsel, we can make good decisions to do what is right and stand firm in them knowing God will be with us. Seeking God is always the better choice. God gives us right choices to make in His word.

SCRIPTURE:
Deuteronomy 30:19-20 “Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live! You can make this choice by loving the Lord your God, obeying him, and committing yourself firmly to him. This is the key to your life. And if you love and obey the Lord, you will live long in the land the Lord swore to give your ancestors Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you make decisions.
2. List the way you seek help when you need more information.
3. Know God wants to help you make wise decisions.
4. Remember there is always a better choice when you go to God for help.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your word. Thank You for Your desire for us to make right decisions. We know when we stand firm in Your word and pray, You will help us. We know obeying You, loving You, and committing our lives to You is the key to a good life. Help us, we pray, to make right and godly choices today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we make a choice to stand firm in God’s word, we can share about how great He is with our words and actions.

Luke 21:19 “By standing firm, you will win your souls.” (NLT)

When we choose to turn away from evil and be strengthened by God, we will be better able to stand firm in future temptations.

2 Timothy 2:19 “But God’s truth stands firm like a foundation stone with this inscription: ‘The Lord knows those who are his,’ and ‘All who belong to the Lord must turn away from evil.’” (NLT)

Matthew 24:13 “But the one who endures to the end will be saved.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Joshua 24:15b “But as for me and my family, we will serve the Lord.” (NLT)

February 4, 2020 FOLLOWING INSTRUCTIONS

Obviously, following instructions on how to do something helps us to get it right. And when we do the task over and over again, we get better and better so we have the steps memorized and we become really good at it. That is how hobbies happen. We try something and find out we like it so we do it again and again. Obedience to God is a lot like this. We read His word and obey it. We do it over and over. It becomes automatic and we are strengthened by His word. Then we will stand firm when issues and problems arise. Obeying God’s word should be a priority in our lives to help us to do what is right.

SCRIPTURE:
Luke 6:46-49 “So why do you keep calling me ‘Lord, Lord!’ when you don’t do what I say? I will show you what it’s like when someone comes to me, listens to my teaching, and then follows it. It is like a person building a house who digs deep and lays the foundation on solid rock. When the floodwaters rise and break against that house, it stands firm because it is well built. But anyone who hears and doesn’t obey is like a person who builds a house right on the ground, without a foundation. When the floods sweep down against that house, it will collapse into a heap of ruins.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you follow God’s word.
2. List what you do to ensure you obey God daily.
3. Know God’s word is for your good and to help you grow strong spiritually.
4. Remember blessings and good will come from obeying God’s word.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we need Your word. We need to read it and apply it to our lives. We need to study it and share it with others. We know Your word will bring blessings, give us wisdom, and produce fruit. Thank You for Your word. Help us to stand firm in Your word as we deal with day-to-day life. We know You will strengthen us as we read and apply Your word to our lives. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we choose to obey God’s word, we will be blessed.

Luke 11:28 “Jesus replied, ‘But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.’” (NLT)

When we choose to obey God’s word, we will be wise.

Matthew 7:24-27 “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock.” (NLT)

When we choose to obey God’s word, we will produce fruit according to His will.

FOCUS:
Isaiah 55:11 “It is the same with my word. I send it out, and it always produces fruit. It will accomplish all I want it to, and it will prosper everywhere I send it.” (NLT)

February 3, 2020 IS ANYONE LISTENING?

How many times do we feel we are talking but no one is listening? We experience it daily. People are so absorbed in what they are dealing with in life that they barely take time to listen to us. In fact, we have been guilty of not listening to others as well. But we can be sure of one thing. When we speak out to God and believe in Him, He will hear us. What will help us to build a firm foundation in the Lord is prayer. What keeps us strong is prayer. Prayer strengthens us because we are focused on God. We are relying on God. We are counting on God to help us. We can have confidence when we pray that God will make things right. There are many prayers in the Bible we can speak and believe God will answer.

SCRIPTURE:
Jeremiah 29:12-13 “Then you will call on me and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me and find me when you seek me with all your heart.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how prayer has helped in your life.
2. List times you have prayed and what God did.
3. Know God listens and wants to strengthen you as you pray.
4. Be consistent in praying and encourage others to pray as well.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know that prayer changes things. We know we can come to You and talk with You about anything. Thank You for the direct line we have to You. We know praying to You will strengthen us because we know You are listening. Help us to remember to confess any sin before we pray and continue to obey You in all things. We pray You will guide us today to be strong because we know You are with us and You are listening as we pray to You all day long. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we want God to hear us, we must confess our sins before we talk with Him.

Psalm 66:18-20 “If I had not confessed the sin in my heart, the Lord would not have listened. But God did listen! He paid attention to my prayer. Praise God, who did not ignore my prayer or withdraw his unfailing love from me.” (NLT)

God hears those who truly love Him and do what is right.

1 Peter 3:12 “The eyes of the Lord watch over those who do right, and his ears are open to their prayers. But the Lord turns his face against those who do evil.” (NLT)

We can know God hears our prayers and will help us when we believe and trust in Him.

FOCUS:
1 John 5:14 “And we are confident that he hears us whenever we ask for anything that pleases him.” (NLT)

February 2, 2020 FIRM FAITH

All of us get a little afraid sometimes. We have doubts. We get lonely. We feel sad. Our faith in God may waiver a bit because of all the things we have to deal with. God knows life isn’t easy. That is why He tells us so many times in His word to have faith. We may be going through hard times right now but a firm faith in God will help us get through the hard times. God wants us to put our trust and hope in Him having faith He will see us through the hard times. We can take action now to grow our faith in God so it will remain firm when problems come.

SCRIPTURE:
Colossians 2:7 “Let your roots grow down into him, and let your lives be built on him. Then your faith will grow strong in the truth you were taught, and you will overflow with thankfulness.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about a time your faith waivered.
2. List what you did and what happened.
3. Know God wants your faith to be firm in Him.
4. Remember daily God is with you and wants to help you.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your promises. We can have faith that You will follow through with all of them. Thank You for reminding us to have faith in You in all things. We know life gets hard and our faith in you waivers a bit. Help us to build our faith up in You now by reading Your word, praying, and feeling Your powerful presence. Only You can ever give us exactly what we need when we need it. And we thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Luke 16:10a “If you are faithful in little things, you will be faithful in large ones.” (NLT)

We strengthen our faith in God by remembering what He has done and knowing He will always help us.

Matthew 17:20 “‘You don’t have enough faith,’ Jesus told them. ‘I tell you the truth, if you had faith even as small as a mustard seed, you could say to this mountain, ‘Move from here to there,’ and it would move. Nothing would be impossible.’” (NLT)

1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” (NLT)

1 Timothy 6:12 “Fight the good fight for the true faith. Hold tightly to the eternal life to which God has called you, which you have declared so well before many witnesses.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Isaiah 7:9b “Unless your faith is firm, I cannot make you stand firm.” (NLT)

February 1, 2020 CREATE A FIRM FOUNDATION

How is firmness created? That is an odd question but something to think about. A firm mattress is made with steel coil springs. A firm body is one that is fit and healthy. A firm foundation in a building has concrete, footings and secure cornerstones. Something that is firm is secure or solidly fixed into place. If we wanted to create a firmness or firm footing in our spiritual lives, we need a firm foundation. It requires time. Time in God’s word. Time in prayer. Time in praise and worship. We should take time daily to build a firm foundation in our spiritual lives and help others do the same.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 3:12-15 “Anyone who builds on that foundation may use a variety of materials—gold, silver, jewels, wood, hay, or straw. But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what type of foundation you have been building in your life.
2. List what you have been doing to build a firm foundation for God.
3. Know God gives you all the materials you need.
4. Get into His word, pray, obey, worship and praise Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know only You have what we need to build a firm foundation in life. We know when we stay in Your word, pray daily, seek Your will, and obey You, we will create a firm foundation. We know when we take time to worship and praise You, we will feel Your presence in our lives and become stronger and closer to You. Help us to take action today that will continue to create a firm foundation in our lives where we can live for You and share Your word with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to build a firm foundation in God’s word so we are strong and immovable.

1 Corinthians 15:58 “So, my dear brothers and sisters, be strong and immovable. Always work enthusiastically for the Lord, for you know that nothing you do for the Lord is ever useless.” (NLT)

If we want a secure foundation, we need God.

Psalm 18:32 “It is God who arms me with strength and keeps my way secure.” (NLT)

We are to build a foundation that is strong in the Lord and help others to do the same.

FOCUS:
1 Corinthians 3:10 “Because of God’s grace to me, I have laid the foundation like an expert builder. Now others are building on it. But whoever is building on this foundation must be very careful.” (NLT)

January 31, 2020 THE HIGHEST GOAL OF LIFE

Many of us set goals about where we want to go or what type of lifestyle we want to have. We list all of our dreams and think about how we can reach them before we die. However, God tells us of the greatest goal we should set in our lives. God says love is the most important achievement in life and it should be part of every goal we have. God tells us what love is, how to achieve it, and reminds us in His word that love is our highest goal!

SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 “Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to show love to others.
2. List ways you can share God’s love with people.
3. Know God wants love to be your highest goal.
4. Seek ways to do everything you do in love.

PRAYER:
Lord, You tell us to do everything in love. You remind us love is the most important goal we can set for our lives. Help us to stay in Your word and read about how to show love to others every day. Remind us what Your love is in our daily walk with You so we can share it with others. Love is the answer to all things. We know that, Lord. Help us to remember to make love our highest goal today and every day. We want to show the attributes of love in all we do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
1 Corinthians 16:14 “And do everything with love.” (NLT)

We are called to love others as long as life lasts.

Hebrews 6:11 “Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true.” (NLT)

John 13:34-35 “So now I am giving you a new commandment: Love each other. Just as I have loved you, you should love each other. Your love for one another will prove to the world that you are my disciples.” (NLT)

We are to make love our highest priority in life.

FOCUS:
1 Corinthians 14:1 “Let love be your highest goal!” (NLT)

January 30, 2020 ROLE MODELS AND MENTORS

We all have had role models in the past. We may still have someone in our lives we wish to be like one day. There are mentors, coaches, leaders, etc. who live their lives in a way we wish to live our lives. We believe if we could achieve what they have achieved, we could have success. We may read their books and blogs, listen to their podcasts and presentations, or practice what they do in hopes we can, one day, achieve what they have achieved.

However, there is only one person who we are to desire to be like. There is only one person who we should follow, read about and listen to. That one person is Jesus Christ. When our goals are to live a life like Jesus did and to speak and act as He did, then we have the right role model to follow. Jesus gives us guidelines on how to live. The goals for our lives should match those instructions He gives. We are to follow God’s plans just as Jesus did.

SCRIPTURE:
Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what role models you have had in the past.
2. List any mentors or leaders you admire.
3. Know Jesus should be your only role model.
4. Study about Jesus and set goals that will help you to grow to be like Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You will help us to remember our goal in life should be to follow You. We have Jesus as an example of how to live. He should be our role model as we go through life. Help us, we pray, to seek to know more and more about You and what You want us to do that is in line with Your will. We want to study more about the life of Jesus and live as Jesus did. Thank You for Jesus and the life He had on this earth and the salvation He brought from His death. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Jesus did not fear man because He knew God is greater than any man.

Psalm 118:6 “The Lord is for me, so I will have no fear. What can mere people do to me?” (NLT)

We are told what our aim in life should be in God’s word. We are to set goals to live a life like Jesus.

1 John 4:17 “And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world.” (NLT)

We are told what our aim in life should be in God’s word. We are to teach others about God and share His love with them.

FOCUS:
Matthew 28:20 ‘Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you. And be sure of this: I am with you always, even to the end of the age.” (NLT)

January 29, 2020 BOOK OF SUCCESS

Many of us set goals and want to be successful reaching them. We want to do what is right and work toward our goals so we can have a successful life. The meaning of success is different for all people; however, the success of believers should be living our lives as God calls us to live. We can’t wait for success to happen by sitting idly by. No, we need to get into God’s word which is the greatest book on success we could ever read. We need to strive to live according to His will. Then we will have a successful life.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Timothy 3:16-17 “All scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true, make us realize what is wrong in our lives, straightens us out and it teaches us to do what is right. It is God's way to prepare us in every way.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write your definition of success.
2. List what God says about a successful life.
3. Know God’s word can help you succeed greater than this world can.
4. Remember to pray, read God’s word and set your goals according to His will.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know the world’s definition of success is so different than Yours. We know we need to get into Your word to better understand what You mean by success. We know we need to read Your word to better understand what goals to set. We know Your word will give us the plans we need to make and the outcomes we need to have. Help us to be successful according to Your will and Your word. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God’s word is truth and will guide us to do what is right and succeed.

John 17:17 “Make them holy by your truth; teach them your word, which is truth.” (NLT)

We can trust in God’s word and know whatever He says is true and will happen.

Habakkuk 2:3 “At the time I have decided, my words will come true. You can trust what I say about the future. It may take a long time, but keep on waiting – it will happen!” (CEV)

The more we pour over the word of God and seek His will in all we do, the more change we will see for the better.

FOCUS:
Jeremiah 29:13 “If you look for me wholeheartedly, you will find me.” (NLT)

January 28, 2020 A MUST FOR GOAL SETTING

One great thing about setting goals is we can adjust them as needed. We may find out as we are working toward our goals that the end result we wanted was not at all what we thought. We may realize the goals we set in the beginning needed adjusting a bit in order to be accomplished. However, one thing we don’t need to adjust in our goals is if we are pleasing to God. When we first set our goals, we need to be sure the results will be pleasing to God and all the actions we take to reach them are pleasing to Him as well. Pleasing God should be the main priority in our goals as we create them, adjust them and accomplish them.

SCRIPTURE:
Deuteronomy 10:12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you goals you have changed over the years.
2. List what goals you have right now that will please God.
3. Know God wants you to live in a way that pleases Him.
4. Seek His will, set your goals and live out your life only for God.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know all the goals we set must be pleasing to You. We know You tell us in Your word to live in a way that pleases You. You have many promises for those who do Your will and live to please You. We want our goals and our lives to be pleasing to You every day. Help us, Lord, to know what we need to do that is in line with Your will. We want to live to please only You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to live our lives to please God. Every goal we set needs to be in line with God’s will.

1 Thessalonians 4:1 “Finally, dear brothers and sisters, we urge you in the name of the Lord Jesus to live in a way that pleases God, as we have taught you. You live this way already, and we encourage you to do so even more.” (NLT)

Galatians 1:10 “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.” (NLT)

1 Peter 4:10 “So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you.” (NLT)

Our goal in life should be to do God’s will so when we die we know we have accomplished all He created us to do.

FOCUS:
1 John 2:17 “And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.” (NLT)

January 27, 2020 SETBACKS

We know there are going to be setbacks in life. We experience them on a regular basis. Setbacks are necessary in life for many reasons. First, they help us to grow stronger because we learn from them. Second, they remind us we need God to help us and to rely on Him. Finally, setbacks show us how to deal with tough times and that makes the celebrations so much sweeter. As setbacks come while we are reaching for our goals in life, let’s remember it is an opportunity to grow, put our hope in God and seek out the positive from the setbacks. We are to press on to reach God’s goals for our lives.

SCRIPTURE:
Philippians 3:12-14 “I don’t mean to say that I have already achieved these things or that I have already reached perfection. But I press on to possess that perfection for which Christ Jesus first possessed me. No, dear brothers and sisters, I have not achieved it, but I focus on this one thing: Forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead, I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about your setbacks in life.
2. List the things you did during your setbacks.
3. Know God wants you to have a plan for the next setback.
4. Pray and ask Him what you should do now to prepare for your next setback.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You will help us be prepared for setbacks as we strive to reach the goals You have for our lives. We know You will help us through the hard times and we thank You. Help us to plan now so we are ready to persevere and not give up when we have our next setback. Help us this year to make a difference for You. Help us to focus on what matters and do Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to press on to reach God’s goals for our lives.

2 Corinthians 4:1 “Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, we never give up.” (NLT)

When we remember God is with us, we can trust in Him to help us get through the setbacks of life.

Psalm 16:8 “I know the Lord is always with me. I will not be shaken, for he is right beside me.” (NLT)

Setbacks will attempt to sidetrack us from our goals. Let’s move past them and continue on as we do God’s will.

FOCUS:
Proverbs 4:25-27 “Look straight ahead, and fix your eyes on what lies before you. Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don’t get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil.” (NLT)

January 26, 2020 MEANINGFUL WORK

It is always easier to get somewhere when we know where we are going. Imagine wandering around and not knowing the exact place we were supposed to end up. That pretty much means we are lost, right? In a way, when we don’t have goals, we are lost. We are wandering around in life not really getting anywhere. We set goals to help us fulfill our purpose in life. When we find our why for living, focus on our goals and prioritize our actions, we will no longer be wandering and lost. We will have clarity and vision for the future. The future God has planned for us here on earth and as well as in eternity. Meaningful work for the Lord is what He calls us to do.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Corinthians 3:13-15 “But on the judgment day, fire will reveal what kind of work each builder has done. The fire will show if a person’s work has any value. If the work survives, that builder will receive a reward. But if the work is burned up, the builder will suffer great loss. The builder will be saved, but like someone barely escaping through a wall of flames.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write out the reasons why you work.
2. List reasons why God wants you to work.
3. Know you need a goal for life that is in line with God’s will.
4. Remember meaningful work for God will bring great reward and satisfaction.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for the work we do. Help us remember to set goals and to seek direction from You. We don’t want to wander daily just getting by at work. We want to work on purpose. We want to be intentional about what we do. We want to seek ways to add value to others and make a difference. Show us, today, Lord what we can do to be more intentional in our work so we are doing what You call us to do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are not just to work to meet our physical needs but we are to work to make a contribution to others with our lives.

Proverbs 13:4 “Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper and be satisfied.” (NLT)

We are to plan well to do the good work God calls us to do.

Proverbs 21:5 “Good planning and hard work lead to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty.” (NLT)

We work to store up treasures in Heaven where we will, one day, enter and live there forever.

FOCUS:
Matthew 6:20 “Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal.” (NLT)

January 25, 2020 WHAT OTHERS ARE DOING

As we work on our goals, we need to be sure we aren’t comparing ourselves to others. Doing that could cause us to get discouraged and even become jealous of their success. We should learn to be content with our progress and continue to take small steps daily as we celebrate our successes along the way. As soon as we stop comparing ourselves to others and remember we all have specific and unique talents, we will understand the foolishness of our discouragement. Comparing ourselves to others will not get us to the goal God has set before us. It will only distract us from focusing on God.

SCRIPTURE:
Galatians 6:4 “Pay careful attention to your own work, for then you will get the satisfaction of a job well done, and you won’t need to compare yourself to anyone else.” (NLT)

Proverbs 14:30 “A peaceful heart leads to a healthy body; jealousy is like cancer in the bones.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you get discouraged.
2. List those who you sometimes compare yourself with.
3. Know God created you uniquely to do great things.
4. Stop comparing and start learning to be content with your progress.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we thank You for the progress we have made in our lives. We thank You for the lessons learned, the failures, and the setbacks. We know all these things help us to move forward. We want to be content with where we are in our lives right now and continue to take steps forward doing Your will. Remind us daily to stop comparing ourselves to others but instead focus on You and do the things You created us to uniquely do. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to be content with the progress we have made doing the will of God and know we are very blessed.

Philippians 4:11b “I have learned how to be content with whatever I have.” (NLT)

God wants us to take one step at a time and know He is with us in all we do.

Psalm 37:23 “The Lord directs the steps of the godly. He delights in every detail of their lives.” (NLT)

Rather than comparing ourselves to others, we are to draw close to God and He will draw close to us.

FOCUS:
James 4:8a “Come close to God, and God will come close to you.” (NLT)

January 24, 2020 GIVE JOYFUL THANKS

As we work toward our goals, there will be times when we become tired and grow weary. We will want to give up because we won’t see progress every day. In fact, there may be days and weeks when nothing happens at all. However, we are not to give up. To help us stay focused on working toward our goal, we need to remember to be grateful. We can be grateful for what we are doing, what we have done and what God is going to continue to do. We can have joy every day anticipating the end result that God has in store for us. We can remember God in all we do and trust in Him to help us get through the hard times as we work toward our goals.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 28:7 ‘The Lord is my strength and shield. I trust him with all my heart. He helps me, and my heart is filled with joy. I burst out in songs of thanksgiving.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you show gratitude to God.
2. List ways you have a joyful heart.
3. Know God will get you through the tough times.
4. Seek Him, be grateful and have joy as you work toward your goals.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we want to remember You in all we do. We know there will be times when we don’t feel like doing Your work. We know there will be times when we work hard but there are no results. We also know You want us to be joyful in all things – even when we don’t feel like it. We know You want us to come to You with joy and thanksgiving every day for what You have done and what You are going to do. Help us to remember to praise You in the storms of life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Psalm 94:19 “When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” (NLT)

2 Corinthians 6:10 “Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.” (NLT)

We should be grateful for God’s mercy and what He is doing in our lives right now to do His will.

1 Timothy 1:12-13 “I thank Christ Jesus our Lord, who has given me strength to do his work. He considered me trustworthy and appointed me to serve him, even though I used to blaspheme the name of Christ. In my insolence, I persecuted his people. But God had mercy on me because I did it in ignorance and unbelief.” (NLT)

We are called to always be joyful. That means even when we are working toward our goals and hit a roadblock or when we are growing weary.

FOCUS:
Philippians 4:4 “Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again—rejoice!” (NLT)

January 23, 2020 WHAT OTHERS MAY SAY

Sometimes goals do not get accomplished due to our own thoughts. Our thoughts about what we believe others may say or think. It’s time to turn the tables. We need to stop thinking about what others think and start thinking about what God wants. We need to stay on track with our goals remembering who God created us to be. As we go for our goals – no matter what anyone says or thinks – we are to treat them with respect, show kindness and forgiveness. Then we simply move on doing the will of God knowing He is who we answer to and who we live to please.

SCRIPTURE:
Galatians 1:10 “Obviously, I’m not trying to win the approval of people, but of God. If pleasing people were my goal, I would not be Christ’s servant.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you are doing for God.
2. List what others have said about your goals.
3. Know you only work for God and will only answer to Him.
4. Remember to be kind to others as you continue to do God’s will.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we sometimes allow what others think or say to keep us from doing Your will. Help us remember to show them kindness but not allow them to stop us from doing what You call us to do. We want to stay focused on You but also forgive them for their harsh actions and words against us as we do Your will. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Despite what others think or say about what we are doing for God, we are to treat them kindly.

1 Peter 2:17 “Respect everyone, and love the family of believers. Fear God, and respect the king.” (NLT)

We are called to be kind to all people and forgive them just as God has forgiven us.

Ephesians 4:32 “Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” (NLT)

Know God will give us all we need to accomplish our goals. We shouldn’t allow others to stop us from doing God’s will.

FOCUS:
Philippians 2:13 “For God is working in you, giving you the desire and the power to do what pleases him.” (NLT)

January 22, 2020 ARE YOU GIVING?

It is so easy to take all our money and spend it on ourselves. Or we could watch our money so closely that we believe we don’t have anything to give because it takes all we have to make ends meet. However, we do have enough to give. God gives us enough to take care of ourselves and to give to others. It is part of His plan. We are here on this earth to make a contribution with our time, talents and treasures. We are to give for the right reasons – not for our own glory but to truly help others and to give God the glory. In our goals for this year, we need to make plans to give and to give generously.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 6:1-4 “Watch out! Don’t do your good deeds publicly, to be admired by others, for you will lose the reward from your Father in heaven. When you give to someone in need, don’t do as the hypocrites do—blowing trumpets in the synagogues and streets to call attention to their acts of charity! I tell you the truth, they have received all the reward they will ever get. But when you give to someone in need, don’t let your left hand know what your right hand is doing. Give your gifts in private, and your Father, who sees everything, will reward you.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you give to others.
2. List some other areas you can give.
3. Decide to plan some extra giving this year.
4. Pray and ask God for opportunities to give more.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, remind us daily everything we are blessed with. Remind us You call us to give and to give generously. We know we work to take care of our own needs but also to give to others. Help us to see opportunities every day to help someone in need or to do a random act of kindness to a stranger. We want You to receive the glory in all we give as we thank You for Your blessings. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We work so we can take care of our needs and we can give to those in need.

Deuteronomy 15:10 “Give generously to the poor, not grudgingly, for the Lord your God will bless you in everything you do.” (NLT)

Our hard work is to provide for ourselves and to give to others what God has blessed us with.

Acts 20:35 “And I have been a constant example of how you can help those in need by working hard. You should remember the words of the Lord Jesus: ‘It is more blessed to give than to receive.’” (NLT)

We are to set goals for our work and for our giving. We should plan to give generously as God calls us to do.

FOCUS:
Ephesians 4:28b “use your hands for good hard work, and then give generously to others in need.” (NLT)

January 21, 2020 ARE YOU PLANTING?

Many of us wonder why we can’t get ahead. We set goals and work toward them but it seems accomplishing our goals moves further and further away. We get down about how we aren’t getting to where we believe we need to be in life. We keep looking at the end goal wondering when we will arrive. There is something we may be missing. We have the planning done but what about the planting? If we want to reap good things in life, we have to be sure we are sowing the right seeds.

If we want to accomplish any goal, we need to plant seeds of God’s word into our lives and into the lives of others. No matter our goal, God’s word should be first and foremost in our lives. Daily and deliberate planting according to God’s plan will get us to where we need to go. Oh, and along the way let’s enjoy the process as we see daily accomplishments knowing, in the end, we will reach the destination God has planned for us.

SCRIPTURE:
Hosea 10:12 “Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.” (KJV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to plant seeds of God’s word in your life.
2. List how you plant seeds of God’s word in others.
3. Know all your goals should involve God.
4. Stay focused on Him and His word so you always end up accomplishing His goals.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we sometimes get frustrated because plans don’t go our way. However, we know if we stay in Your word and plant Your seeds of righteousness in our lives, all will be well. We know Your word can help us reach Your goals for our lives. We know You tell us when we plant Your word in our hearts and into the hearts of others, we are accomplishing Your will for our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God’s word is the seed that needs to be planted in order to reach our goals.

Mark 4:20 “And the seed that fell on good soil represents those who hear and accept God’s word and produce a harvest of thirty, sixty, or even a hundred times as much as had been planted!” (NLT)

2 Corinthians 9:10 “For God is the one who provides seed for the farmer and then bread to eat. In the same way, he will provide and increase your resources and then produce a great harvest of generosity in you.” (NLT)

Ecclesiastes 11:6 “Plant your seed in the morning and keep busy all afternoon, for you don’t know if profit will come from one activity or another—or maybe both.” (NLT)

Planting seeds of God’s word in the minds and hearts of others will reap great rewards.

FOCUS:
Mark 4:14 “The farmer plants seed by taking God’s word to others.” (NLT)

January 20, 2020 ARE YOU GROWING?

Imagine a high school graduate who goes to school for 12 years yet still only knows what was learned in first grade. This is the message today. We need to examine how long we have been believers and how much we have grown. Do we still only know what we learned when we first believed? Or have we made an intentional attempt to learn more about God from His word and time alone with Him?

God wants us to grow daily in our walk with Him by reading His word, applying it to our lives and learning from our suffering. He wants us to be teachers of His word sharing it with others and telling them what He has done for us. Are we still going over the basics because we haven’t stepped up and taken responsibility to grow in Christ? Others know the word of God because believers are sharing it and teaching it to them. We should be sharing it as well.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 5:12a “You have been believers so long now that you ought to be teaching others. Instead, you need someone to teach you again the basic things about God’s word.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about your spiritual goals.
2. List what you have planned to do this year to teach God’s word.
3. Know God wants you grow spiritually and to share His word.
4. Go to God and ask Him what He wants you to do to grow spiritually.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You want us to set goals for our spiritual growth. You want us to stay in Your word and apply it to our lives so we can grow completely and fully as we do Your will. We know staying out of church and out of Your word will keep us from growing spiritually. Remind us daily of Your will for us to grow as believers and spend quiet time with You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Others know the word of God because believers are sharing it and teaching it to them.

Mark 5:19 “But Jesus said, ‘No, go home to your family, and tell them everything the Lord has done for you and how merciful he has been.’” (NLT)

2 Timothy 2:2b “Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.” (NLT)

Matthew 28:20a “Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.” (NLT)

We are called to teach and to share God’s word with others. We can’t do that if we aren’t continuously learning about God and growing spiritually.

FOCUS:
Proverbs 18:15 “Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge.” (NLT)

January 19, 2020 MEEK AND HUMBLE LIVES

We see so many people wanting to make a difference in the world for the wrong reasons. With social media, we see people doing outlandish things just for followers and more likes. People crave attention and, for some, social media is their god. They do more and more things to get people to watch them so they will be famous and rich. However, God tells us it should be our goal to live a quiet life. We are to mind our own business, obey His commands, and do His will.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Thessalonians 4:11 “Make it your goal to live a quiet life, minding your own business and working with your hands, just as we instructed you before.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about how others crave attention.
2. List what they do to get noticed.
3. Know God wants you to live a quiet and humble life.
4. Let your work for God give Him the glory through your humble actions.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know there are so many “show offs” in this world. They say and do inappropriate things to get attention and to gain more visibility. Help us remember You call us to be humble and lead a quiet life. We want to do Your will without showing off. We want our actions and words to point others to You, not point them to us. Help us to have the right attitude in the work we do for You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are not to live an idle life but we are to live a humble and meek life. We need to remember the difference and be sure we are following the will of God.

Ecclesiastes 4:5-6 “‘Fools fold their idle hands, leading them to ruin.’ And yet, ‘Better to have one handful with quietness than two handfuls with hard work and chasing the wind.’” (NLT)

Living an idle life doing nothing is not what God calls us to do. We are to lead meek and humble lives as we work for Him.

2 Thessalonians 3:11-12 “Yet we hear that some of you are living idle lives, refusing to work and meddling in other people’s business. We command such people and urge them in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ to settle down and work to earn their own living.” (NLT)

When we practice humility and meekness, we will see blessings from God.

FOCUS:
Matthew 5:5 “God blesses those who are humble, for they will inherit the whole earth.” (NLT)

January 18, 2020 TIME MANAGEMENT

There is not enough time in the world to read all the books, listen to all the podcasts, or go to all the classes on time management. There is a tremendous about amount of advice on time management. We can actually waste time trying to save time. That is why when we are reaching for our goals, we need to go by God’s word on time management. His timing is perfect and when we follow His will, everything will fall into place. God wants us to act now while the time is right and not hesitate to do His will. We should put God first in all things and He will take care of managing our time as He has done in the past and will continue to do for eternity.

SCRIPTURE:
Ecclesiastes 3:1-8 “For everything there is a season, a time for every activity under heaven. A time to be born and a time to die. A time to plant and a time to harvest. A time to kill and a time to heal. A time to tear down and a time to build up. A time to cry and a time to laugh. A time to grieve and a time to dance. A time to scatter stones and a time to gather stones. A time to embrace and a time to turn away. A time to search and a time to quit searching. A time to keep and a time to throw away. A time to tear and a time to mend. A time to be quiet and a time to speak. A time to love and a time to hate. A time for war and a time for peace.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you need to do for God.
2. List what excuses you have been making.
3. Decide today to take action.
4. Allow God to manage your time by putting Him first in all you do.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we spend too much time attempting to save time. Help us to live by Your timetable and not the world’s. Show us what You want us to do today while we are in Your presence and worshiping You. We don’t want to hesitate. We want to step out boldly and do Your will today. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God knows what we need to do at just the right time…always.

2 Corinthians 6:2 “For God says, ‘At just the right time, I heard you. On the day of salvation, I helped you.’ Indeed, the ‘right time’ is now. Today is the day of salvation.’” (NLT)

We shouldn’t wait any longer to choose to believe in God, take steps to do His will and share His word.

Acts 22:16 “What are you waiting for? Get up and be baptized. Have your sins washed away by calling on the name of the Lord.” (NLT)

Hebrews 3:13 “You must warn each other every day, while it is still ‘today,’ so that none of you will be deceived by sin and hardened against God.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 119:60 “I will hurry, without delay, to obey your commands.” (NLT)

January 17, 2020 SEEK HELP

When we are working toward our goals in life, we sometimes need help. We need to bring in others to do certain things for us. We may even need to seek advice on what we should do or not do. Seeking the right help is important. We should seek godly counsel and God’s word to help us make right decisions to reach our goals. If we seek the wrong people for help, we could easily go down a wrong path. We need to pray about and test advice from others to be sure it is in line with God’s word.

SCRIPTURE:
1 John 4:1 “Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about a time when you needed help.
2. List who you went to and what happened.
3. Know God wants you to seek Him when you need help.
4. Go to His word and seek godly people to help you.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You will lead us to Your word when we need help. We pray for the courage to share our problems with godly people who will help us make wise decisions. We want to stay on track doing Your will and seek godly advice rather than worldly help. Help us to find the right help that is in line with Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
The best way to succeed is not to try it alone. Seek God’s word and many godly advisers to help.

Proverbs 15:22 “Plans go wrong for lack of advice; many advisers bring success.” (NLT)

We need wisdom from those who are living a godly life to help us make right decisions toward our goals.

Proverbs 20:18 “Plans succeed through good counsel; don’t go to war without wise advice.” (NLT)

Getting help from those who follow the ways of the world could hurt us and others. We should seek godly help.

FOCUS:
1 Corinthians 15:33b “bad company corrupts good character.” (NLT)

January 16, 2020 HOW TO MELT AWAY STRESS

Setting goals is something we do to accomplish things in life. We write down what we want and list the steps to get there. If it were only that easy! As we go for our goals, we quickly find out many obstacles will attempt to keep us from reaching our goals. One of those obstacles is stress. God knows we will get overwhelmed at times. That is why we have His word to read and meditate on. Meditating on God’s word will bring us back to Him and remind us why we are working so diligently on our goals.

SCRIPTURE:
Joshua 1:8 “Study this Book of Instruction continually. Meditate on it day and night so you will be sure to obey everything written in it. Only then will you prosper and succeed in all you do.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you are stressed about.
2. List what God’s word says about stress.
3. Know God wants you to meditate on His word.
4. Start today keeping His word in your hearts and watch your stress melt away.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know doing Your will isn’t always easy. We will come upon barriers and road blocks and people who will try to sway us from doing Your will. We will have troubles at home and at work. We will have health problems, relationships issues and financial woes. However, let us remember to hold firmly to Your word which is all we need to remove the stress in our lives so we can focus on You and reach the goals You have put before us. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We can find comfort in God’s word when we meditate on it day and night.

Psalm 119:52 “I meditate on your age-old regulations; O Lord, they comfort me.” (NLT)

Rather than lying awake worried in the middle of the night about our problems, let’s lay awake thinking of God and meditating on His word.

Psalm 63:6 “I lie awake thinking of you, meditating on you through the night.” (NLT)

When we study God’s word and meditate on it day and night, we will find peace in the midst of working toward our goals.

FOCUS:
Psalm 1:2 “But they delight in the law of the Lord, meditating on it day and night.” (NLT)

January 15, 2020 HAVE FAITH

There are many times in life we start something not totally knowing what the outcome will be. We start a new job, a project or a family. Most of us just don’t sit at home in the dark because we are afraid of doing anything thinking bad things will happen. No, we have hope our new job will work out, our project will succeed and our family will be healthy and grow. God wants us to step out in faith in all we do. He wants us to have faith in Him as we work toward our goals that are in line with His will. God is looking for people to seek Him and have faith so He can bless them and help them succeed.

SCRIPTURE:
1 John 5:4-5 “For every child of God defeats this evil world, and we achieve this victory through our faith. And who can win this battle against the world? Only those who believe that Jesus is the Son of God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what actions you take in faith.
2. List what God has called you to do for Him.
3. Know God will help you as you step out in faith.
4. Remember those who are faithful will be blessed and succeed.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we want our faith to be strong in You. We know You have great plans for us but we aren’t always taking the action You require. Show us, today, what You want us to do and help us to step out in faith. We know doing Your will is why we are here. Give us the courage, the strength and the desire to do Your will and step out in faith knowing You have everything under control. Even though we can’t see the outcome, we know You have a perfect plan for our lives. Thank You, Lord. Thank You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Doing what God calls us to do when we don’t know the outcome is acting in faith and that is what He calls us to do.

Hebrews 11:1 “Faith shows the reality of what we hope for; it is the evidence of things we cannot see.” (NLT)

Noah was rewarded due to his faith in God.

Hebrews 11:7 “It was by faith that Noah built a large boat to save his family from the flood. He obeyed God, who warned him about things that had never happened before. By his faith Noah condemned the rest of the world, and he received the righteousness that comes by faith.” (NLT)

We are to not put our faith in man, the world or ourselves. We are to put our faith only in God.

FOCUS:
Habakkuk 2:4 “Look at the proud! They trust in themselves, and their lives are crooked. But the righteous will live by their faithfulness to God.” (NLT)

January 14, 2020 LUKEWARM

There aren’t many things we like that are lukewarm. Most of us enjoy either hot or cold drinks. When our food is heated or cold, it tastes better than when it is room temperature. When we are lukewarm, about something, we aren’t making a difference. We are just going with the flow and not making waves. God doesn’t want us to be lukewarm in our goals. In fact, He tells us being lukewarm means we are blind to who He truly is and what He wants for our lives. Let’s be sure we stay on fire for God as we go for our goals in life so we are digging deeply into His word, fervently praying, passionately worshiping and excitedly telling others about Him. Being lukewarm for God isn’t being for God at all.

SCRIPTURE:
Revelation 3:15-17 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth! You say, ‘I am rich. I have everything I want. I don’t need a thing!’ And you don’t realize that you are wretched and miserable and poor and blind and naked.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what causes indifference toward God.
2. List what makes believers lukewarm.
3. Know God will not tolerate indifference.
4. Choose God and take daily action to stay on fire for Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know it is easy to fall away from You. We know we see things in this world daily that distract us from Your word. We know we could quickly become lukewarm for You by not reading Your word or having daily time with You. Help us to stay on track and be disciplined so we don’t become lukewarm. We want to be on fire for You doing Your will as we reach the goals You have created for us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are not to be lazy but always do what we can to serve God and help others.

Romans 12:11 “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically.” (NLT)

Showing love to others will help us to keep from becoming indifferent about God.

Hebrews 6:11-12 “Our great desire is that you will keep on loving others as long as life lasts, in order to make certain that what you hope for will come true. Then you will not become spiritually dull and indifferent. Instead, you will follow the example of those who are going to inherit God’s promises because of their faith and endurance.” (NLT)

God will help us from being indifferent about Him if we will turn to Him and seek His way.

FOCUS:
Revelation 3:19 “I correct and discipline everyone I love. So be diligent and turn from your indifference.” (NLT)

January 13, 2020 INTEGRITY MEANS FOLLOWING THROUGH

We need to remember when setting goals that God has goals for our lives. God has the same standards for all of us. He wants us to live a righteous life, tell the truth, help others and follow through. Following through may be the hardest thing for most of us to do. We have good intentions and we set goals to do what is right, but we quickly make excuses or break promises thinking others will understand. God takes following through and keeping promises very seriously and we should as well.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 15:2-5 “The one whose walk is blameless, who does what is righteous, who speaks the truth from their heart; whose tongue utters no slander, who does no wrong to a neighbor, and casts no slur on others; who despises a vile person but honors those who fear the Lord; who keeps an oath even when it hurts, and does not change their mind; who lends money to the poor without interest; who does not accept a bribe against the innocent. Whoever does these things will never be shaken.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about any promises you have broken.
2. List why it is hard for you to follow through on commitments.
3. Know God can help you do what is right.
4. Remember your strength comes from God and allow Him to work through you.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us as we work toward our goals to have integrity. Help us to follow through doing what we said we would do. We want to be sure we keep our promises no matter what. We know many times it is easy to back out and not follow through. However, we want to live with integrity by following through on doing Your will. Give us strength and help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we make promises and don’t follow through, we are losing our integrity with others.

Proverbs 25:14 “A person who promises a gift but doesn’t give it is like clouds and wind that bring no rain.” (NLT)

We can know God will always keep His promises to us and we should do the same.

Hebrews 10:23 “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise.” (NLT)

God wants to help us follow through when we are weak. Let’s be sure to turn to Him to help us keep our promises.

FOCUS:
Psalm 118:14 “My power and my strength come from the Lord, and he has saved me.” (CEV)

January 12, 2020 INTEGRITY TAKES COURAGE

We all want to do what is right. We grew up learning right from wrong. We learned doing right led to rewards and doing wrong led to punishment. Having integrity means we do what is right all the time – even when no one is looking. It means having the courage to say no to wrongdoing. It means having the courage to stand up for what is right. As we work on our goals, there will be wrong paths. We need to stay aware of what is right by reading God’s word, learning His truths, and standing by them in all things. The knowledge of God’s word will help us stay on the path of integrity and point others to Christ.

SCRIPTURE:
Titus 2:7 “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how courage is important in your life.
2. List ways you exhibit courage and display integrity.
3. Know God wants you to be strong and courageous.
4. Read and apply God’s word to help you with integrity as you accomplish your goals.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us as we work toward our goals to have integrity. Help us to do what we should do when we should do it no matter who is looking. Help us to say yes to the right things and no to the wrong things. We want to be courageous in doing what is right. Help us today, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Joshua 1:7 “Be strong and very courageous. Be careful to obey all the instructions Moses gave you. Do not deviate from them, turning either to the right or to the left. Then you will be successful in everything you do.” (NLT)

Proverbs 10:9 “People with integrity walk safely, but those who follow crooked paths will be exposed.” (NLT)

1 Corinthians 16:13 “Be on guard. Stand firm in the faith. Be courageous. Be strong.” (NLT)

Proverbs 11:20 “The Lord detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity.” (NLT)

May God keep us centered and devoted to Him following the life path He has cleared and walking in His word with integrity.

FOCUS:
1 Kings 8:58 “May he give us the desire to do his will in everything and to obey all the commands, decrees, and regulations that he gave our ancestors.” (NLT)

January 11, 2020 CHOOSE TO OBEY

Setting goals in life can be easy or hard. When we set goals, we make our wishes or dreams turn into reality after we begin taking action. However, as we work toward our goals, we need to remain focused on God. We need to stay in His word. We need to pray and draw close to Him. We need to choose to obey Him. Having a right relationship with God will help us know if we are on the right track for Him or if we are pursuing some worldly goal. We should choose to obey God’s word in all we do.

SCRIPTURE:
Deuteronomy 30:16 “I am commanding you to be loyal to the Lord, to live the way he has told you, and to obey his laws and teachings. You are about to cross the Jordan River and take the land that he is giving you. If you obey him, you will live and become successful and powerful.” (CEV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you are doing to work toward your goals.
2. List anything you are doing that may not be in obedience to God.
3. Go to God and pray for Him to show you His will.
4. Get into His word and be sure what you are doing is in line with His word.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we commit our goals to You. We want to obey You as we work toward our goals. We don’t want to do anything against Your will. Help us to seek You every day and read Your word so we know what we are doing is in obedience to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we are working toward our goals but not obeying God, we are a slave to this world.

Romans 6:16 “Don’t you realize that you become the slave of whatever you choose to obey? You can be a slave to sin, which leads to death, or you can choose to obey God, which leads to righteous living.” (NLT)

We are to commit ourselves to God in the work we do toward our goals in life.

Deuteronomy 6:6-9 “And you must commit yourselves wholeheartedly to these commands that I am giving you today. Repeat them again and again to your children. Talk about them when you are at home and when you are on the road, when you are going to bed and when you are getting up. Tie them to your hands and wear them on your forehead as reminders. Write them on the doorposts of your house and on your gates.” (NLT)

If we are not allowing God to guide us in our goals, we are allowing someone or something else to control us.

FOCUS:
2 Peter 2:19b “For you are a slave to whatever controls you.” (NLT)

January 10, 2020 WE ALL HAVE A MINISTRY

Some believe only godly leaders can be ministers. However, we all have an opportunity to minister to others. When we give back to others what God has blessed us with – that is ministry. When we take time, use our talents, or give money to help those in need – that is ministry. Part of our goals for this year should be to grow in our ministry by helping others in our communities, in our country, and in the world.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Peter 4:10 “God has given each of you a gift from his great variety of spiritual gifts. Use them well to serve one another.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what talents you have.
2. List ways you can serve others with those talents.
3. Know God has blessed you with many things.
4. Use your blessings to minister to others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for the blessings You give to us. Thank You for Your love and all You do. We know all we have is from You. Help us to use what You have blessed us with to minister to others. We know we are here to serve and to give back. Show us how we can do that today, Lord, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God has given us talents and abilities to use for His glory. We are to use them to help others and point them to Him.

Matthew 5:16 “In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.” (NIV)

God will give us even more blessings to use to help others when we minister to others with what we already have.

Luke 6:38 “Give, and you will receive. Your gift will return to you in full—pressed down, shaken together to make room for more, running over, and poured into your lap. The amount you give will determine the amount you get back.” (NLT)

We are to ask ourselves each day what we can give to others that the Lord has blessed us with.

FOCUS:
Psalm 116:12 “What can I offer the Lord for all he has done for me?” (NLT)

January 9, 2020 OVERCOME FEAR

Fear is probably the biggest reason we don’t reach our goals. Fear causes us to procrastinate. Fear causes us to become stagnant. Fear creeps in and our imagination goes wild about why we shouldn’t go for the goals we have set in our lives. There are ways to overcome fear so we can do the will of God. We can turn from our fear and turn to Jesus by reading His word, talking with Him and having faith He will help us to do His will. We can cry out to God when we are afraid and He will hear us and help us.

SCRIPTURE:
Lamentations 3:55-57 “But I called on your name, Lord, from deep within the pit. You heard me when I cried, ‘Listen to my pleading! Hear my cry for help!’ Yes, you came when I called; you told me, ‘Do not fear.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what fears you have about working on your goals.
2. List honestly your fears and worst case scenarios.
3. Go to God in prayer asking Him to help you.
4. Get into His word, get to know Him, and have faith He will help you.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know fear is our enemy because Satan wants us to be afraid and not do Your will. We know fear keeps us from doing Your will. Fear also causes us to procrastinate every day. Give us the strength and power to banish fear from our lives as we read Your word, draw close to You, and have faith You will help us. We resist the devil and the fear he creates in our lives in the name of Jesus so we can do Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We should fill our lives with God’s word to overcome the fear of stepping out and doing His will.

1 John 2:5 “But those who obey God’s word truly show how completely they love him. That is how we know we are living in him.” (NLT)

We should fill our lives with getting to know God and understanding His unconditional love.

1 John 4:7-8 “Dear friends, let us continue to love one another, for love comes from God. Anyone who loves is a child of God and knows God. But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” (NLT)

We should fill our lives with faith in God knowing and trusting He will help us.

FOCUS:
Hebrews 13:7 “Remember your leaders who taught you the word of God. Think of all the good that has come from their lives, and follow the example of their faith.” (NLT)

January 8, 2020 DON’T LET SIN CREEP IN

With the overwhelming amount of information we have at our fingertips, it is easy to look for alternate ways to reach our goals. We may get sidetracked searching for other ways and even try a thing or two that may not be according to God’s will. However, we are to choose an honest path in order to do the will of God. If we allow sin to creep in and act thoughtlessly, we will not be able to follow through and get the things done that God wants us to do. Choose the honest path and God will take care of the rest.

SCRIPTURE:
Ephesians 5:15-17 “So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what sin has been in your life.
2. List ways to keep it from creeping in.
3. Remember to stay in God’s word and pray.
4. Choose the honest path for your goals and don’t let sin creep in.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us today to make right choices. We want to do what is right and resist temptations. We want to be careful in how we live and not live like fools. We want to act according to Your will and not thoughtlessly. Help us to live an honest life and remain clean from sin so we can be used to do Your perfect will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to remain clean and free from sin if we want to be used to do the perfect will of God.

2 Timothy 2:21 “All who make themselves clean from evil will be used for special purposes. They will be made holy, useful to the Master, ready to do any good work.” (NCV)

James 1:21 “Get rid of all the filth and evil in your lives, and humbly accept the message God has planted in your hearts, for it is strong enough to save your souls.” (NLT)

Genesis 4:7 “If you do things well, I will accept you, but if you do not do them well, sin is ready to attack you. Sin wants you, but you must rule over it.” (NCV)

Deuteronomy 25:15 “Yes, always use honest weights and measures, so that you may enjoy a long life in the land the Lord your God is giving you.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Romans 12:17 “Never pay back evil with more evil. Do things in such a way that everyone can see you are honorable.” (NLT)

January 7, 2020 ACCEPTANCE

We have heard the quote about accepting the things that we can’t change, right? If we don’t do that, we will just be making things hard on ourselves. There are people we will encounter as we strive to reach our goals that we don’t agree with. There will be some who want to go against what we are doing. However, spending our lives trying to change something or someone will keep us from doing God’s will. We are to accept others just as Christ has accepted us. We are to trust in God in situations we cannot change. Doing these things will free us to reach the goals we are created to accomplish.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 15:7 “Therefore, accept each other just as Christ has accepted you so that God will be given glory.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you have tried to change in the past.
2. List the things God wants you to accept.
3. Know God is always in control.
4. Pray to accept what you cannot change and continue to do God’s will.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for the trials we have in life. We know You love us and life will not always be easy. There will be those who want to fight against us. There will be those who want to hurt us. There will be trials and issues in life. Despite all this, Lord, we know You want us to accept what we cannot change and allow You to be in control. Help us to focus on You and Your plan for us. Help us to accept the things we cannot change and continue to do Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are accept what others say to us and turn the other cheek showing them we have the love of God in us.

Lamentations 3:30 “Let them turn the other cheek to those who strike them and accept the insults of their enemies.” (NLT)

We are accept those who are weak in faith knowing God wants us to lead by example and point them to Him.

Romans 14:1 “Accept other believers who are weak in faith, and don’t argue with them about what they think is right or wrong.” (NLT)

We are to accept the hiccups of life knowing God is and always will be in control.

FOCUS:
Job 2:10b “Should we accept only good things from the hand of God and never anything bad?” (NLT)

January 6, 2020 DO WHAT IS REQUIRED

In anything we do, there are basic guidelines. There are baseline things we know we need to do in order to achieve a goal and be successful. For example, if we are making a cake and leave out eggs or flour, we know it will still be a cake but it won’t taste right. In life, we can take shortcuts or leave things out along the way but we won’t truly succeed. No, God has guidelines for us all through His word. We are to live by those guidelines as we move toward our goals so we can be successful in His eyes. God tells us what we need to do to live a good life and to get things done. It is our choice if we do it or not.

SCRIPTURE:
Micah 6:8 “No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you do what is right in all things.
2. List ways you show mercy and walk humbly with God.
3. Know God gives this instruction to you in all you do.
4. Pray asking Him to help you remember these things as you reach your goals.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You give us many guidelines for right living. Help us to remember to do what is right and not allow sin to creep within in us. Help us to show mercy to others and help them. Remind us to humbly walk with You putting You and others first in all we do. We know when we incorporate all of this into our daily lives as we work toward our goals, we will be living in obedience to You. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are called to do what is right as we move toward our goals in life.

Genesis 4:7 “You will be accepted if you do what is right. But if you refuse to do what is right, then watch out! Sin is crouching at the door, eager to control you. But you must subdue it and be its master.” (NLT)

While we are achieving our goals in life, we are to be merciful just as God is merciful to us.

Luke 6:36 “Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.” (NIV)

As we strive to reach our goals, we are to remain humble and put others’ needs before our own.

FOCUS:
Philippians 2:3 “Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of others as better than yourselves.” (NLT)

January 5, 2020 SELF-WORTH

Many days we feel worthless. We feel as if we have nothing to give to this world. We feel no one cares. These feelings can certainly hinder us from completing our goals. That is why we need to stay in God’s word. When we stay in His word and memorize it, we can turn to Him when we are feeling down and out. When we turn to Him and believe what He tells us, He will revive us. When we stop comparing our lives to others to determine our self-worth and start making Jesus the center of our lives, we will be able to get things done for God. We are to remember our self-worth in God and show others His goodness and love.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Peter 2:9 “But you are not like that, for you are a chosen people. You are royal priests, a holy nation, God’s very own possession. As a result, you can show others the goodness of God, for he called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about times when you felt unworthy.
2. List ways you get out of your slump.
3. Know God wants you to turn to Him in all things.
4. Get into His word and prepare your heart and mind for your next pity party.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we sometimes get down and out. We sometimes have a pity party about our lives. Help us to remember You created us and we are to focus on You and not this world. Help us to know Your love and power will help us get through times when we feel worthless. Remind us You created us in Your image and we are capable, accepted and loved by You. We want to stop living in pity and start doing Your will today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God chose us to live for Him and obey Him. He wants us to remember we are worthy to do His will.

Colossians 3:12 “Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience.” (NLT)

Even when we feel like we can’t go on, we should continue doing God’s will.

Psalm 73:26 “My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” (NLT)

We are to follow the examples of those in the past who struggled and know we do matter to God and continue to do His will.

FOCUS:
Hebrews 4:18a “Even when there was no reason for hope, Abraham kept hoping” (NLT)

January 4, 2020 DON’T GIVE UP

We have heard speeches and read books about never giving up. We all know that if we give up, we won’t reach whatever goals we have set. However, we still give up. We give up because we don’t see results quick enough. We give up because we take our eyes off the goal and get distracted. We give up because we feel alone and tired. There are many reasons for giving up on a goal. But God tells us not to give up. He tells us to draw from His strength. He tells us to follow the ways of Jesus and remember the joy we will have by enduring the pain, giving up on the temporary pleasures and continuing to do the will of God.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 12:1-3 “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a huge crowd of witnesses to the life of faith, let us strip off every weight that slows us down, especially the sin that so easily trips us up. And let us run with endurance the race God has set before us. We do this by keeping our eyes on Jesus, the champion who initiates and perfects our faith. Because of the joy awaiting him, he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne. Think of all the hostility he endured from sinful people; then you won’t become weary and give up.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you have given up on.
2. List things you are still wanting to do.
3. Know God doesn’t want you to give up on your goals.
4. Seek God’s help and pray every day having faith He will answer.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your word which reminds us not to give up. We know You have great goals for us to accomplish in line with Your will. Help us not be lazy nor give up on doing Your will. Show us what we need to do as we wait patiently on You to reply to our prayers so we don’t give up. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God tells us not to be lazy but work hard and be patient and keep on praying.

Romans 12:11-12 “Never be lazy, but work hard and serve the Lord enthusiastically. Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” (NLT)

Because of God’s mercy we can keep going toward the goals He has for our lives.

2 Corinthians 4:1 “Therefore, since God in his mercy has given us this new way, we never give up.” (NLT)

We are called to pray about our goals and never give up on God helping us achieve them.

FOCUS:
Luke 18:1 “One day Jesus told his disciples a story to show that they should always pray and never give up.” (NLT)

January 3, 2020 REJECTION

No one wants to be rejected. We may have been rejected at work or at home or at school. Rejection is one reason we give up on our goals. We set goals and start out with our plans only to get rejected by someone. However, we should reject the nay-sayers. We should remember our plans are for the glory of God. Instead of focusing on the world’s rejection, choose to reject the world and accept God’s love and His acceptances of us. We shouldn’t let this sinful world keep us from doing the will of God just because it chooses to reject us. We should, instead, reject this world so we CAN do the will of God.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Corinthians 4:2 “We reject all shameful deeds and underhanded methods. We don’t try to trick anyone or distort the word of God. We tell the truth before God, and all who are honest know this.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about any rejection in your life.
2. List ways you have allowed rejection to stop you from doing God’s will.
3. Know you have been accepted and are loved by God.
4. Focus on God and reject the ways of the world so you can completely live for Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know this world rejects You. We know when we live for You we will be rejected as well. Help us to continue to focus on You and live for You despite those who reject us because we follow You. Help us to remember to reject this sinful world and allow You to transform us into a new person so we can do Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we reject the world and allow ourselves to be transformed to a new person who lives for God, He will help us through all the barriers of life.

Romans 12:2 “Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” (NLT)

We should remember if we are rejected for doing God’s will, they are rejecting God and not us. We need to remember God will take care of them and not let their rejection stop us from doing His will.

Luke 10:16b “Anyone who accepts your message is also accepting me. And anyone who rejects you is rejecting me. And anyone who rejects me is rejecting God, who sent me.” (NLT)

Jesus was rejected by many yet He focused on God who chose Him to do great things. We should focus on God as well so we can get things done.

FOCUS:
1 Peter 2:4b “He was rejected by people, but he was chosen by God for great honor.” (NLT)

Thursday, January 2, 2020 BARRIERS TO GOALS

We all know there are many barriers to accomplishing goals in life. We can have the best intentions when we wake up in the morning to get things done but stuff happens. We get sidetracked. We make excuses. We have interruptions. The list goes on and on. However, when we decide to be aware of the barriers that keep us from taking action and pray asking God to help us through those barriers, we can get the things done we need to do. When we seek God first in all we do, He will give us all we need.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 6:33 “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what barriers you have that keep you from taking action.
2. List who or what is keeping you from doing God’s will.
3. Know God wants you to put Him first in every area of your life.
4. Give your problems to Him and allow Him to help you get things done.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know there are many barriers in life that keep us from doing Your will. We know sometimes we can be our own barriers. Help us to see any roadblocks we are creating or excuses we are making. Help us to see what others may be trying to do to pull us away from You. Help us recognize temptations and turn from them. We need You and Your word to help us get past the barriers so we can do Your will. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to give our issues and problems to God knowing He will take care of us. Then we can stay focused on doing His will.

Psalm 55:22 “Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you. He will not permit the godly to slip and fall.” (NLT)

Our sins are the barriers that keep us doing the will of God. We need to confess them, repent and turn back to God.

Isaiah 59:2 “It’s your sins that have cut you off from God. Because of your sins, he has turned away and will not listen anymore.” (NLT)

We are to press on and keep our eye on Jesus to get through the barriers of life that may slow us down.

FOCUS:
Philippians 3:14 “I press on to reach the end of the race and receive the heavenly prize for which God, through Christ Jesus, is calling us.” (NLT)

January 1, 2020 SETTING GOALS

We have read and heard a lot about setting goals…especially this time of year. Setting goals is easy for most people. We just decide what we are going to do and write out all the details. That is about it. However, accomplishing a goal isn’t that easy. It takes work. It takes not just planning but doing. There are many reasons or excuses not to accomplish a goal. However, when we set a goal to do God’s will and seek His help, He will help us.

Let’s make sure our 2020 goals are God-centered so we can be sure we are on the right track for Him. When we set goals to do God’s will, we can take action knowing He will be with us and help us to succeed.

SCRIPTURE:
Proverbs 16:3 “Commit your actions to the Lord, and your plans will succeed.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what goals you have.
2. List ways you have taken action.
3. Know God wants you to commit your goals to Him.
4. Make sure your goals are God-centered and seek God’s help to take action daily.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we commit our goals to You. We know there are some things we desire that are not right for us. We know there are some goals we create that are not in line with Your will. Help us with our goals for this year so we are in line with Your will. We want to set goals and put You first in every action we take. We want to commit all we do to You, Lord. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we commit our plans to God, He will help us.

Psalm 37:5 “Commit everything you do to the Lord. Trust him, and he will help you.” (NLT)

When we seek God’s will in all we do, He will guide us.

Proverbs 3:6 “Seek his will in all you do, and he will show you which path to take.” (NLT)

When we keep our focus on God as we take action on our goals, we will succeed according to His will.

FOCUS:
Psalm 20:4 “May he grant your heart’s desires and make all your plans succeed.” (NLT)

December 31, 2019 YOU ARE BLESSED

Many times in life we don’t truly see the blessings around us. If we looked purposefully every day, however, we would find many blessings. Good stewards know they are blessed by God. They use their blessings to help others. When we better know God by reading His word and having a right relationship with Him, we can identify our blessings and use them to help others. Everything in life is a blessing from God. God blesses us with His grace so we can give generously to others. Whatever we have…our time, our money, our skills, our treasures, our talents…these are all gifts from God that we can use to allow Him to bless others through us.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Corinthians 9:8 “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what God has blessed you with.
2. List blessings God gives to all people.
3. Know God wants you to share your blessings with others.
4. Pray and ask God what you can do today to share your blessings.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we thank You for the many blessings You give to us. We know we are blessed only because of Your grace. You love us so much and want us to have all we need to live this life. Thank You for the little and big blessings You give us every day. Help us to use these blessings to help others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We don’t receive blessings from others. All blessings come from God.

Psalm 146:3-5 “Don’t put your confidence in powerful people; there is no help for you there. When they breathe their last, they return to the earth, and all their plans die with them. But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God.” (NLT)

Be encouraged by God and live to encourage others. Good stewards look for opportunities to encourage others. We can be a blessing to others by encouraging them.

1 Thessalonians 5:11 “Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.” (NIV)

We are rich with God’s blessings and should use them to help others better know Him.

FOCUS:
Proverbs 10:22 “The blessing of the Lord makes a person rich, and he adds no sorrow with it.” (NLT)

December 30, 2019 A BEAUTIFUL LIFE

We don’t have to wait to be told by someone else that we are beautiful. We can know we are beautiful because we are God’s creation. Good stewards for God aren’t concerned about outward beauty nor are they seeking approval from others. Good stewards for God know they are God’s masterpiece and are wonderfully made. They strive to show their beauty from their actions as they give their lives to God and know He is with them. They live a life of beauty by giving to others and helping those in need.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 139:14 “I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you have a beautiful life.
2. List ways you can remember how God made you.
3. Know God created you to do beautiful things.
4. Seek God’s will and share about His beautiful creations with others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You made everything beautiful. We know we are beautiful because You created us. We know we can share Your beauty with others in our actions. Help us remember to read more about You and the beautiful things You created every day. Show us how we can share Your beauty with others and take actions that honor only You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Ecclesiastes 3:11 “Yet God has made everything beautiful for its own time. He has planted eternity in the human heart, but even so, people cannot see the whole scope of God’s work from beginning to end.” (NLT)

We are God’s creation and made beautiful do to great things for Him.

Genesis 2:7 “Then the Lord God formed the man from the dust of the ground. He breathed the breath of life into the man’s nostrils, and the man became a living person.” (NLT)

Ephesians 2:10 “For we are God’s masterpiece. He has created us anew in Christ Jesus, so we can do the good things he planned for us long ago.” (NLT)

We can have a beautiful life when we live our lives for God.

FOCUS:
Psalm 16:6 “My share in life has been pleasant; my part has been beautiful.” (NCV)

Flirt or Flight
Genesis 39:1-18

Read
Joseph was a very handsome and well-built young man, and Potiphar’s wife soon began to look at him lustfully. “Come and sleep with me,” she demanded.

But Joseph refused. “Look,” he told her, “my master trusts me with everything in his entire household. No one here has more authority than I do. He has held back nothing from me except you, because you are his wife. How could I do such a wicked thing? It would be a great sin against God.”

She kept putting pressure on Joseph day after day, but he refused to sleep with her, and he kept out of her way as much as possible. One day, however, no one else was around when he went in to do his work. She came and grabbed him by his cloak, demanding, “Come on, sleep with me!” Joseph tore himself away, but he left his cloak in her hand as he ran from the house. (Genesis 39:6-12)

Reflect
Ancient Egypt was a land of great contrasts. People were either rich beyond measure or poverty-stricken. There wasn’t much middle ground. Joseph found himself serving Potiphar, an extremely rich officer in Pharaoh’s service. Rich families like Potiphar’s had elaborate homes two or three stories tall with beautiful gardens and balconies. They enjoyed live entertainment at home as they ate delicious fruit from expensive bowls. They surrounded themselves with alabaster vases, paintings, beautiful rugs, and hand-carved chairs. Dinner was served on golden tableware, and the rooms were lighted with gold lampstands. Servants, like Joseph, worked on the first floor, while the family occupied the upper stories.

Potiphar’s wife failed to seduce Joseph, who resisted this temptation by saying it would be a sin against God. Joseph didn’t say, “I’d be hurting you,” or “I’d be sinning against Potiphar,” or “I’d be sinning against myself.” Under pressure, such excuses are easily rationalized away. Remember that sexual sin is not just between two consenting adults. It is an act of disobedience to God.

Respond
Joseph avoided Potiphar’s wife as much as possible. He refused her advances and finally ran from her. Sometimes merely trying to avoid temptation is not enough. We must turn and run from it, especially when the temptation seems very strong. What temptation do you need to run from?

December 29, 2019 CONTINUE TO BELIEVE

Belief is something that we can control. We can stop believing in something or someone for many reasons. People disappoint us and we stop believing in them. We find out the truth about something and stop believing in it. However, some of us continue to believe in false things hoping they are true but eventually we are left empty and disappointed. There is only One belief we can have that will always give us hope, remain true and help us in hard times. That is God’s word. When we continue to believe in God despite what is going on around us and have faith in Him, we will see great things happen in our lives. Good stewards for God continue to believe in Him.

SCRIPTURE:
John 20:31 “But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about where you have lost hope.
2. List why it is important to continue to believe in God.
3. Know God’s word is true and helpful.
4. Stay in His word, draw close to Him and continue to believe in Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we want to be good stewards for You in our words and actions. We want to continue to believe in You in all things knowing You are in control. We want to exercise our faith so it will grow. We want strong faith in You so we can continue to give You the honor and praise You deserve. Help us, Lord, as we deal with life to remain faithful to You and continue to believe. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we continue to believe in God, our faith will grow.

James 1:3-4 “For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.” (NLT)

If we continue to believe in God, our faith will strengthen.

1 Peter 1:7b “So when your faith remains strong through many trials, it will bring you much praise and glory and honor” (NLT)

Colossians 1:23 “But you must continue to believe this truth and stand firmly in it. Don’t drift away from the assurance you received when you heard the Good News.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
1 Corinthians 15:2 “It is this Good News that saves you if you continue to believe the message I told you—unless, of course, you believed something that was never true in the first place.” (NLT)

December 28, 2019 PRACTICE PATIENCE

As we are nearing the end of the year, we can look back and reflect on all that happened. We can remember the good and the bad…and learn from both. The outcome of the situations in the past will show us if there is any need for change. Just reflecting on our attitudes this past week can show us where change may be needed. We may joke about praying for patience because we know we will be tested in order for our patience to strengthen. However, we all need to practice patience in everything we do. Let’s make a goal to strive for patience by learning to let things go and let God take control.

SCRIPTURE:
James 1:12 “God blesses those who patiently endure testing and temptation. Afterward they will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write any areas where you are impatient.
2. List ways you can practice patience.
3. Remember God wants you to let Him take control.
4. Plan now to let things go and let God handle everything in your life.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You will help us to be more patient about the things going on in our lives right now. Help us to remember You have a perfect plan for our lives and to seek Your will and Your way. You have just what we need when we need it. Help us to take time to get to know You better by studying and meditating on Your word. While we wait on You to answer our prayers, we can build trust in You and practice patience with confident hope You are in control. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
2 Corinthians 6:6 “We prove ourselves by our purity, our understanding, our patience, our kindness, by the Holy Spirit within us, and by our sincere love.” (NLT)

James 5:10 “For examples of patience in suffering, dear brothers and sisters, look at the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.” (NLT)

Hebrews 10:36 “Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.” (NLT)

2 Thessalonians 3:5 “May the Lord lead your hearts into a full understanding and expression of the love of God and the patient endurance that comes from Christ.”(NLT)

Romans 12:12 “Rejoice in our confident hope. Be patient in trouble, and keep on praying.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Psalm 27:14 “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.” (NLT)

December 27, 2019 LIVING RIGHT

We all know people who believe they are always right. We see it every day. People want to voice their opinions and force them on others. We sometimes find ourselves arguing or wanting to speak our mind because we believe we are right. Wanting to be right and being right are two different things. When we seek to prove we are right all the time, we are not living as good stewards for God. The best way to be right is through our actions and living a righteous life. Righteous living means being right with God and living as God intends. Good stewards know life is about getting to know God. When we aren’t living for God, we aren’t really living right.

SCRIPTURE:
Hosea 10:12 “I said, ‘Plant the good seeds of righteousness, and you will harvest a crop of love. Plow up the hard ground of your hearts, for now is the time to seek the Lord, that he may come and shower righteousness upon you.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do that is right.
2. List ways you could improve being righteous.
3. Know righteousness is being right with God.
4. Strive to live right as God intends for you to do.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You will help us to understand what it truly means to be right. We know we are to have a right relationship with You by reading Your word, having conversations with You, giving our concerns to You and trusting in You. We know we are to live right as You intend. That means practicing the fruits of the Spirit, being meek and submissive and humble to You. Help us, we pray, to practice right living as it is in Your word and not of this world. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we seek God and desire a right relationship with Him, we will be blessed.

Matthew 5:6 “God blesses those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.” (NIV)

Proverbs 12:28 “In the way of righteousness there is life; along that path is immortality.” (NIV)

Psalm 119:7 “As I learn your righteous regulations, I will thank you by living as I should!” (NLT)

God tells us those who do what is right according to His word belong to Him.

FOCUS:
1 John 2:29 “Since we know that Christ is righteous, we also know that all who do what is right are God’s children.” (NLT)

December 26, 2019 BECAUSE OF JOY

We may be going through hard times right now. It could be financial. It might be our health. It may be relationships or loneliness. Times are tough even during the most happiest time of the year. However, we can find strength. The secret to strength in hard times is joy. How can we have joy when we are in the midst of troubles and pain? We can focus on God. We can remember His grace, His power, His forgiveness, His patience, His comfort and His love. After all, that is what Jesus did when He was enduring the cross. Let’s remember the joy awaiting us just as Jesus did when we endure hard times.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 12:2b “Because of the joy awaiting him (Jesus), he endured the cross, disregarding its shame. Now he is seated in the place of honor beside God’s throne.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you have endured in life.
2. List ways you can have joy in Christ.
3. Remember God’s promises and blessings.
4. Remember the joy awaiting you that only comes from God.

PRAYER:
Heavenly Father, we want to remember the joy of the Lord is our strength. We want to remember Your love, Your saving grace and Your promises. We know when we focus on You, we will have joy and strength. Help us, we pray, to keep our eyes on You just as Jesus did when He endured the cross. We know You will give us the same joy and strength You gave Jesus if we put our trust in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We can have joy in all things when we remember God and all He has done, is doing and will do for us.

Romans 4:8 “Yes, what joy for those whose record the Lord has cleared of sin.” (NLT)

Nehemiah 8:10b “for the joy of the Lord is your strength!” (NLT)

December 25, 2019 THE GREATEST GIFT

There is a reason the joy we have on Christmas Day doesn’t last. There is a reason the love we have for one another at Christmastime isn’t felt throughout the year. There is a reason we don’t experience peace all year long like we do in the midst of the chaos on Christmas morning. The reason is we focus on the temporary gifts we receive from others rather than the greatest gift we have from God. The greatest gift is Jesus. Jesus can give us joy, love and peace throughout the year. And life everlasting.

SCRIPTURE:
Luke 2:8-12 “That night there were shepherds staying in the fields nearby, guarding their flocks of sheep. Suddenly, an angel of the Lord appeared among them, and the radiance of the Lord’s glory surrounded them. They were terrified, but the angel reassured them. ‘Don’t be afraid!’ he said. ‘I bring you good news that will bring great joy to all people. The Savior—yes, the Messiah, the Lord—has been born today in Bethlehem, the city of David! And you will recognize him by this sign: You will find a baby wrapped snugly in strips of cloth, lying in a manger.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you know about Jesus.
2. List what things you can share with others.
3. Remember only God’s gifts last forever.
4. Share the gifts of God with others today and every day.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so in awe of You. We are amazed at Your perfect plan in Jesus. We know the reason for true joy is Jesus. We know the only thing that really lasts from Christmas is Jesus. We know the story of Jesus should be told throughout the world. Help us, we pray, Lord. We want to share the Good News of the Greatest Gift anyone could ever experience. Show us ways to share Jesus. In Jesus name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to remember the reason for the season and praise God for His Son, Jesus.

Luke 2:13-14 “Suddenly, the angel was joined by a vast host of others—the armies of heaven—praising God and saying, ‘Glory to God in highest heaven, and peace on earth to those with whom God is pleased.’” (NLT)

We are get excited about the Good News of Jesus and tell everyone about Him.

Luke 2:16-17 “They hurried to the village and found Mary and Joseph. And there was the baby, lying in the manger. After seeing him, the shepherds told everyone what had happened and what the angel had said to them about this child.” (NLT)

We are to keep in our hearts – all year long – the story of Jesus and think about Him every day.

FOCUS:
Luke 2:19 “but Mary kept all these things in her heart and thought about them often.” (NLT)

December 24, 2019 REAL LOVE

Some of us have never experienced real love. That’s because the world confuses us about real love. There are many songs and many definitions of love in this world. However, there is only one real love. Real love comes only from God. God is love. He shares that love with us in His word and His actions. Because of the birth of Jesus, we know what real love is. We can be good stewards of God’s love by sharing who Christ is and why he came to this earth. When we share God’s word and Good News with others, we are sharing real love. And we are promised that nothing can separate us from God’s love.

SCRIPTURE:
Roman 8:38-39 “And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from God’s love. Neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither our fears for today nor our worries about tomorrow—not even the powers of hell can separate us from God’s love. No power in the sky above or in the earth below—indeed, nothing in all creation will ever be able to separate us from the love of God that is revealed in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (NLT)

1 John 4:16b “God is love. Whoever lives in love lives in God, and God in them.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you know about real love.
2. List ways you experience God’s love.
3. Know God wants you to know His real love.
4. Read His word, feel His love and share it with others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your love. We know You are love. When we get to know You, we get to know love. Help us to share Your love with others. We want to remember how much You love us. We want to grow in the knowledge and in the depth of Your love. Thank You for allowing Jesus to die for our sins because You love us. We did nothing to earn Your love. You simply love us because of who You are. Help us to love others as You love us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to experience God’s love and know His real love as we allow Jesus into our hearts.

Philippians 1: 9-11 “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God.” (NIV)

1 John 4:19 “We love because he first loved us.” (NIV)

Luke 6:35-36 “Love your enemies! Do good to them. Lend to them without expecting to be repaid. Then your reward from heaven will be very great, and you will truly be acting as children of the Most High, for he is kind to those who are unthankful and wicked. You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate.” (NLT)

God gave His Son to live and to die for us because He loves us so.

FOCUS:
John 3:16 “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.” (KJV)

December 23, 2019 ALL IS CALM

If we have ever been around children on Christmas morning, calm is probably not the right word to use to describe Christmas. However, Christmas is all about calmness. Jesus was born in a manger in the middle of nowhere in the still of the night. Just think about the calmness of that moment. Think how Jesus remained calm throughout His lifetime no matter what others said or did to Him. Think about how He wants us to be calm as well. As good stewards for God, we can be calmed by Him as we stay focused on Him, pray to Him and live in obedience to His word. God promises calmness to His people.

SCRIPTURE:
Zephaniah 3:17 “For the Lord your God is living among you. He is a mighty savior. He will take delight in you with gladness. With his love, he will calm all your fears. He will rejoice over you with joyful songs.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to remain calm.
2. Know God promises calmness to His people.
3. List the ways you can put your trust and hope in Him.
4. Remember God is with you and will calm your fears.

PRAYER:
Thank You Lord for Your promises of calmness. We know that we sometimes get stressed during this time of year. We know we get stressed only because we take our eyes off You. We forget the true meaning of Christmas and get sidetracked by the world. Help us to focus on You and fill us with the calmness You promise to us so we can live like Jesus. We want to be good stewards for You and practice calmness in our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we put our faith in God, He promises to give us peace and keep us calm.

Romans 5:1 “By faith we have been made acceptable to God. And now, because of our Lord Jesus Christ, we live at peace with God.” (CEV)

If we stay in God’s word and seek His wisdom, we can remain calm in all situations.

Proverbs 12:16 “A fool is quick-tempered, but a wise person stays calm when insulted.” (NLT)

We need to remember God promises to fight for us so we can remain calm and let Him take control.

FOCUS:
Exodus 14:14 “The Lord himself will fight for you. Just stay calm.” (NLT)

December 22, 2019 LIGHT OF THE WORLD

If we have ever been in complete darkness and then turned on a tiny flashlight, we quickly saw that even a small amount of light can keep us from going in a wrong direction or running into obstacles. As good stewards for God, we don’t have to walk in darkness. We don’t have to wander and wonder where our next steps should be. We don’t have to be afraid of the darkness in this world because we have Christ as our Light and He will be with us as we go through our days and nights for the rest of our lives.

SCRIPTURE:
John 8:12 “Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, ‘I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write where you have stumbled in life.
2. List ways you have gotten off God’s path for you.
3. Know God wants you to follow His Light.
4. Remember Jesus is the Light of the world and follow only Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You for Your perfect Light. We know there is darkness all around us. We may not always be able to recognize that darkness; however, the darkness is the ways of the world. The darkness is the evil Satan has placed all around us. We know we need to keep our eyes on Jesus so we can be good stewards for You. We want to follow the Light of Christ knowing He will guide us and keep us safe as we do Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we fill our lives with God’s word and stay close to Him, we will be filled with His Light.

Luke 11:36 “If you are filled with light, with no dark corners, then your whole life will be radiant, as though a floodlight were filling you with light.” (NLT)

Jesus is our Light who has given us a glimpse of who God is and wants us to follow His direction.

Hebrews 1:3 “The Son radiates God’s own glory and expresses the very character of God, and he sustains everything by the mighty power of his command. When he had cleansed us from our sins, he sat down in the place of honor at the right hand of the majestic God in heaven.” (NLT)

Without God’s Light, we are lost and dead. God wants us to wake up and follow His Light.

FOCUS:
Ephesians 5:14 “for the light makes everything visible. This is why it is said, ‘Awake, O sleeper, rise up from the dead, and Christ will give you light.’” (NLT)

December 21, 2019 WHEN HARD TIMES STRIKE

We have all had hard times. We have lost loved ones. We have had difficult situations with finances or health. We have struggled not knowing what the end result was going to be. However, when tragedy happens, we can still be good stewards for God. We can have faith in God knowing if we continue to live for Him and obey Him through the hard times, good will come from the tragic situation. God is faithful and promises to do good to those who love and obey Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 8:28 “And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what about some hard times you have had.
2. List what you did to get through them.
3. Know God wants you to put your trust in Him.
4. Remember to continue to be obedient to Him in all you do.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know hard times come to us all. We have to deal with disappointment, disaster and tragedy. However, we can hold on to Your promises in everything we have to deal with. We know You promise that no matter what happens to us in this world, You will always be with us, in us and for us. Remind us daily, in good times and bad, that Your promises will be with us forever and we can always depend on You for protection, direction and love. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We need to remember God promises joy to those who live for Him even during the hard times.

Psalm 126:5-6 “Those who plant in tears will harvest with shouts of joy. They weep as they go to plant their seed, but they sing as they return with the harvest.” (NLT)

We should never grow weary of doing the right thing. Even when times are hard, we need to do what is right trusting in God to help us.

Galatians 6:9 “So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up.” (NLT)

We are to be courageous and confident in God – even in the hard times.

FOCUS:
Hebrews 3:6b “And we are God’s house, if we keep our courage and remain confident in our hope in Christ.” (NLT)

December 20, 2019 DYING DAILY

We hear many motivational quotes about a new day, a new beginning, or a new outlook on life. Every day is new and is a blessing from God. In order to be renewed daily by God, we have to die. We have to die to our old self. We have to die to the ways of this world. We have to die to ourselves knowing we can’t do this life based on our own knowledge and understanding. We need God. As good stewards for God, we need to remember He wants to renew us daily in His love, His word, His power and His Holy Spirit. Let’s choose to die daily to ourselves and this world so we can allow Christ to live in us!

SCRIPTURE:
Galatians 2:19-20 “For when I tried to keep the law, it condemned me. So I died to the law—I stopped trying to meet all its requirements—so that I might live for God. My old self has been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me. So I live in this earthly body by trusting in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to remember to die daily to this world.
2. List the ways you can allow Christ to live in you each day.
3. Know God wants you to live only for Him.
4. Choose to die daily to the things of the world and allow God to renew you each day.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know You want us to die to the things of this world. We know the things in the world are nothing compared to who You are and what You can do. You have great plans for us and want us to live for You and not this world. Renew us today and remind us as we go through our day to follow You and live only for You. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We should leave behind our old sinful ways and live a new life in Christ – every day.

Colossians 3:9b-10 “You have left your old sinful life and the things you did before. You have begun to live the new life, in which you are being made new and are becoming like the One who made you. This new life brings you the true knowledge of God.” (NLT)

If we choose Christ, a new life will be created in us. This new life will replace our old life so we can live to obey only God.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!” (NIV)

Our spirits are being renewed daily so we won’t give up seeking God’s will and continuously living for Him.

FOCUS:
2 Corinthians 4:16 “That is why we never give up. Though our bodies are dying, our spirits are being renewed every day.” (NLT)

Today is the best day to begin making changes for yourself and others both inside and out!

December 19, 2019 TRUE WISDOM

We all want to be wise. Some of us already believe we are. While others of us realize the more we learn and experience life, the more we don’t really know. Wisdom of this world is easy. We learn from our mistakes or talking with others and determine how to improve and grow to be wise. However, wisdom from God is what we really need. Wisdom from God is far greater for our eternal success. Wisdom from God is what we need to strive for to be good stewards for God. True wisdom comes from God. We can find it in His word. We can obtain true wisdom by fearing and obeying God.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 111:10 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of true wisdom. All who obey his commandments will grow in wisdom. Praise Him forever!” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write the world’s definition of wisdom.
2. List the things God tells you about wisdom.
3. Know true wisdom only comes from God.
4. Seek God’s word, learn to fear Him and ask Him for wisdom.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know true wisdom only comes from You. We know when we acknowledge how great You are and put our faith in You, You will grant us wisdom. We know when we read Your word and apply it to our lives, You will grant us wisdom. Help us to learn to fear You. Help us to seek Your will and Your way every day. Thank You for the wisdom You give to us. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we want to succeed, we need the wisdom that only comes from God.

Proverbs 9:10 “Fear of the Lord is the foundation of wisdom. Knowledge of the Holy One results in good judgment.” (NLT)

God has the wisdom we need and if we want it, we need to ask for it and believe He will give it to us.

James 1:5-6a “If you need wisdom, ask our generous God, and he will give it to you. He will not rebuke you for asking. But when you ask him, be sure that your faith is in God alone.” (NLT)

Job 12:13 “But true wisdom and power are found in God; counsel and understanding are his.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
Proverbs 2:6 “For the Lord grants wisdom! From his mouth come knowledge and understanding.” (NLT)

December 18, 2019 HUMILITY BRINGS HONOR

Throughout God’s word, He talks about humility. From the beginning to the end of the Bible, the word humble or humility is used many times. As good stewards for God, we are to humble ourselves before Him. We are to remember who He is and how great He is. We are to kneel before Him in worship, in honor, and in praise. As good stewards for God, we are to practice humility putting the needs of others before our own. Humility can be seen in our daily actions and words. We can live a humble life as we acknowledge God, have a right relationship with Him and serve others as He has called us to do. God tells us in His word that humility brings honor and grace. Good stewards practice humility every day.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Peter 5:5b-7 “‘God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.’ So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will lift you up in honor. Give all your worries and cares to God, for he cares about you.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you practice humility.
2. List the ways God tells you to be humble.
3. Know God wants you to put Him first in your life.
4. Remember God calls you to humble yourself and serve others.

PRAYER:
Lord, we do want to please You in all we do. We know we are nothing without You. We know we need You every moment of every day. We come before You to seek Your will and to ask You to forgive us for any wrong in our lives. Help us to submit to You in prayer before we go through each day. Help us to remember You power and Your promises and Your protection. Show us Your way today and remind us to practice humility to those we encounter today and especially to You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we want to live an honorable life for God, we are to practice humility.

James 3:13 “If you are wise and understand God’s ways, prove it by living an honorable life, doing good works with the humility that comes from wisdom.” (NLT)

We need to remember to be patient with one another and make allowances for their faults. No one is perfect. No one but Jesus.

Ephesians 4:2 “Always be humble and gentle. Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other’s faults because of your love.” (NLT)

If we want to please God, we need to practice humility.

FOCUS:
Proverbs 15:33 “Fear of the Lord teaches wisdom; humility precedes honor.” (NLT)

December 17, 2019 GENEROSITY

If we want more of anything in life, we need to give what we have of it away. That seems a little far-fetched but it’s true. Holding on to what God has blessed us with will do nothing for us or others. We are to be generous as God is generous to us. God gives us guidelines on how to be generous in His word. Everything we have is blessings from God. It is not ours to keep. It is ours to use to give God the glory. And we can give Him the glory by being generous as He is to His people. Good stewards give generously.

SCRIPTURE:
Proverbs 11:24 “Give freely and become more wealthy; be stingy and lose everything. The generous will prosper; those who refresh others will themselves be refreshed.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you give to others.
2. List ways you can be more generous.
3. Know you are to be a cheerful giver.
4. Remember to be generous in all you do.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we want to be generous in our giving. We know You provide us with so many blessings. We want to give more. We want to give eagerly. We want to give cheerfully. We know You give us so many great things for us to enjoy on this earth. Remind us we are to share what we have with others. Thank You for Your word that points us to the importance of living a generous life. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to give and do more than what others think we can give or do so we can give glory to God and point them to Jesus.

2 Corinthians 8:5 “They even did more than we had hoped, for their first action was to give themselves to the Lord and to us, just as God wanted them to do.” (NLT)

2 Corinthians 8:12 “Whatever you give is acceptable if you give it eagerly. And give according to what you have, not what you don’t have.” (NLT)

2 Corinthians 9:7 “Never give reluctantly or in response to pressure. For God loves the person who gives cheerfully.” (NLT)

Those who we give to will be blessed and thank God for our generous gifts.

FOCUS:
2 Corinthians 9:11 “Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God.” (NLT)

December 16, 2019 ADD FLAVOR

So many people just blend in with the world. They don’t want to make waves. They don’t want to be bothered. They do just what they can to get by. We know some of these people. We may even be like these people. One thing is for sure – if we do nothing, we will get nothing. Good stewards for God do something. They take action. They add salt to this world from God’s word. They share His love through their actions of kindness, gentleness, patience, peace, and serving. Let’s seek to add flavor to this world sharing God’s love and seeking ways to help and encourage others.

SCRIPTURE:
Colossians 4:5-6 “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity. Let your conversation be gracious and attractive so that you will have the right response for everyone.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to add flavor to this world.
2. List ways you stand out because you are a believer.
3. Know God wants you to seek ways to shine for Him.
4. Remember doing nothing will get you nowhere.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You help us to remember to take action for You today. We know so many people do nothing in this world to let others know about You. We want to be the salt of the earth that adds flavor by our actions. We want to live to please You. Help us to live wisely. Help us to do what You tell us to do. Help us to take action. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to have the qualities of salt and find ways to add flavor and live in peace with everyone.

Mark 9:50 “Salt is good for seasoning. But if it loses its flavor, how do you make it salty again? You must have the qualities of salt among yourselves and live in peace with each other.” (NLT)

Believers should not blend in with everyone else. We should seek ways to affect others positively.

Matthew 5:13 “You are the salt of the earth. But what good is salt if it has lost its flavor? Can you make it salty again? It will be thrown out and trampled underfoot as worthless.” (NLT)

James 1:25 “But if you look carefully into the perfect law that sets you free, and if you do what it says and don’t forget what you heard, then God will bless you for doing it.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
James 4:17 “Remember, it is sin to know what you ought to do and then not do it.” (NLT)

December 15, 2019 THE SWORD OF THE SPIRIT

When we think of a sword, we probably think back on old days when they had duels and people practiced the art of fencing. Swords aren’t used much in this day and time. However, God has a sword we are to use daily. If we want to be a good steward for Him and fight off temptations and the devil’s conniving ways, then we need to use the Sword of the Spirit which is God’s word. God’s word can help us fight the battles of the world, direct us to go the right way and help us know His will. Let’s practice reading it, memorizing it, meditating on it, living it and sharing it so we can be good stewards for Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 4:12 “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to remember God’s word.
2. List ways you use His word in your daily life.
3. Know God’s word is powerful and true.
4. Remember God’s word can help you in all things.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, let us not ever forget how powerful Your word is. We know Your word is alive. We know Your word is powerful. We know Your word proves true time and time again. We know Your word will never fail. We know Your word is for good. We know Your word is to guide us and help us. Thank You, Lord, for Your word. Help us to remember to read it, memorize it, meditate on it, live it and share it with others. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Proverbs 30:5 “Every word of God proves true. He is a shield to all who come to him for protection.” (NLT)

Luke 1:37 “For the word of God will never fail.” (NLT)

Be good stewards of God’s word. How? Read it. Memorize it. Meditate on it. Live it. Share it.

Luke 11:28 “Jesus replied, ‘But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.’” (NLT)

We are to prepare for spiritual battle by putting on the Sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.

FOCUS:
Ephesians 6:17 “Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.” (NLT)

December 14, 2019 TAKE A SIDE

When people are in a heated discussion and taking sides, we sometimes stay silent. Other times we decide to chime in despite what criticism we may face. Either way, we are making a decision. Staying silent means we don’t believe strong enough to speak out or we are afraid. We can speak out without getting violent or critical. We can speak out in love and stand up for what or who we believe in. Sometimes we don’t realize when we are taking sides. However, if we are not standing up and speaking out for God, we are with the world and not Him. Let’s not be silent in this world but instead be good stewards for Him standing on the side of God and speaking out for Him.

SCRIPTURE:
Revelation 3:15-16 “I know all the things you do, that you are neither hot nor cold. I wish that you were one or the other! But since you are like lukewarm water, neither hot nor cold, I will spit you out of my mouth!” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about whose side you are on – God or the worlds.
2. List ways you can stand up more for God.
3. Know God will be with you when you speak out for Him.
4. Seek ways today to share God’s word and remember He will be with you.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we don’t want to conform to this world by sitting idly by and doing nothing to share Your word. We don’t want to be lukewarm for You be not being on fire to tell others about Your great works. Help us to see opportunities today to speak out for You. We want to be on fire sharing Your word and Your will with others today and every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God is with us and wants us to stop being afraid to speak out for Him.

Isaiah 41:10 “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (NLT)

When we aren’t working with God and doing His will, we are conforming to this world.

Luke 11:23 “Anyone who isn’t with me opposes me, and anyone who isn’t working with me is actually working against me.” (NLT)

We need to stand on the side of God and speak out for Him knowing He is for us and will help us when we do His will.

FOCUS:
Romans 8:31b “If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” (NLT)

December 13, 2019 SHOWING MERCY

Mercy is a word that reminds us of God. He has shown mercy to people since the beginning of time. His acts of mercy on the people of Israel exemplify His love for them. His acts of mercy sending Jesus to die for us show His willingness to do whatever it takes for us so we can have a closer relationship with Him. His mercy is beyond our comprehension; however, He calls us to show mercy as well. When we show mercy to others as God has shown it to us, we can share the mercy of God with them.

SCRIPTURE:
Micah 6:8 “No, O people, the Lord has told you what is good, and this is what he requires of you: to do what is right, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you know about God’s mercy.
2. List the ways you can show mercy to others.
3. Know part of God’s will for you is to show mercy.
4. Be deliberate today by showing mercy to others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You will remind us to show mercy to others. You give us many examples of showing mercy in Your word. Remind us we are to live like Jesus by showing mercy to those who need help. We are to show mercy to those who we feel do us wrong. We are to show mercy to those who we don’t know. In order to show mercy to others, we need You in our lives. Help us today, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
As good stewards for God, we are to show mercy to others and point them to Jesus.

Matthew 5:7 “God blesses those who are merciful, for they will be shown mercy.” (NLT)

Lamentations 3:22-23 “The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. Great is his faithfulness; his mercies begin afresh each morning.” (NLT)

James 2:13 “There will be no mercy for those who have not shown mercy to others. But if you have been merciful, God will be merciful when he judges you.” (NLT)

God wants us to show mercy to others just as He has shown mercy to us.

FOCUS:
Hosea 6:6 “For I desire mercy, not sacrifice, and acknowledgment of God rather than burnt offerings.” (NIV)

December 12, 2019 BEAR FRUIT

We don’t have to grow gardens to know bearing fruit requires planting seeds. At a young age, we learn when we put a seed in the ground and water it, it will grow. As good stewards for God, we are to bear fruit by planting seeds. If we want to produce good fruit for God, we plant seeds daily and patiently wait on the fruit to grow. This fruit is defined in God’s word as love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Let’s begin planting today.

SCRIPTURE:
Galatians 5:22-23 “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things!” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to bear fruit for God.
2. List ways you can plant some seeds today.
3. Know God wants you to have a right relationship with Him.
4. Begin in prayer asking God what you need to do to produce fruit.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we need Your Holy Spirit in our lives so we are able to bear fruit. We know we are to plant seeds using the fruits of the Spirit in our lives. We know we are to share Your word with others so they can better know You. We also know we are to have a close relationship with Jesus and get to know Him so we can be a godly example to others. We want to bear fruit according to Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God will know us by the fruit we bear. Are we building up others in Christ and developing the fruits of the Spirit in our lives?

Matthew 7:18-20 “A good tree cannot bear bad fruit, and a bad tree cannot bear good fruit. Every tree that does not bear good fruit is cut down and thrown into the fire. Thus, by their fruit you will recognize them.” (NIV)

We are called to bear fruit that will last according to the will of God.

John 15:16 “You did not choose me, but I chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name the Father will give you.” (NIV)

When we remain in God’s word and keep our eyes on Jesus, we can bear the fruit we are called to produce. A right relationship with Jesus will help us bear much fruit.

FOCUS:
John 15:5 “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit; apart from me you can do nothing.” (NIV)

December 11, 2019 PAY ATTENTION

We can probably remember teachers telling our class to pay attention in school. Even our parents advise us to pay attention when they are speaking. Paying attention is important but not always easy. There are many distractions in this world and in our minds that keep us from paying attention. However, paying attention pays off in many dividends. If we pay more attention to a situation, we could better understand what is going on. If we pay more attention to God’s word, we could better understand what He wants us to do. Paying more attention will help with greater understanding and wisdom in all we do.

SCRIPTURE:
Luke 8:18 “So pay attention to how you hear. To those who listen to my teaching, more understanding will be given. But for those who are not listening, even what they think they understand will be taken away from them.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you need to pay more attention to.
2. List the things that distract you from really seeing and hearing others.
3. Know paying more attention leads to greater understanding.
4. Remember the more you understand, the better steward you can be for God.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, remind us to pay more attention to You every day. We know what we focus on during the day is what we place as most important in our lives. Help us to put You first today and every day by focusing on Your love, Your word, Your goodness, Your mercy, Your peace, and all the other blessings and promises from You. We want to grow wise in Your word and have greater understanding of how we can serve You and help others. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We should pay attention and use what God has blessed us with to do His will and to help others.

Matthew 25:29 “To those who use well what they are given, even more will be given, and they will have an abundance. But from those who do nothing, even what little they have will be taken away.” (NLT)

We are to pay greater attention to God’s word so we can be better stewards for Him.

Psalm 49:1-3 “Listen to this, all you people! Pay attention, everyone in the world! High and low, rich and poor—listen! For my words are wise, and my thoughts are filled with insight.” (NLT)

We are to pay more attention to the wisdom and wise counsel that comes from God so we can better prepare ourselves to live only for Him.

FOCUS:
Proverbs 5:1 “My son, pay attention to my wisdom; listen carefully to my wise counsel.” (NLT)

December 10, 2019 LIVING HOPE

As good stewards for God, we have hope in Him. Of course, everyone has hope in something. However, those who believe in God have great and living hope that actually brings peace, joy and all good things from Him. In fact, we can be good stewards for God because of our hope in Him. We can find strength because of our hope in God. We can do great things because of our hope in God. We can have eternal life because of our hope in God and our belief that Jesus lived and died for us.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Peter 1:3-4a “Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.” (NIV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about your hope in God.
2. List ways you show your hope in Him.
3. Know God will give you strength because of your hope.
4. Remember to be good stewards for God and share your hope in Him with others.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, thank You. Thank You for the great hope we can have in You. Thank You for the living hope You give to use because of what Jesus did for us. Thank You for the strength and joy and love You bring to our lives because of our hope in You. Help us to seek out ways to share our hope in You with others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Because we have hope in God, we need to be prepared with an answer as to why we have that hope so we can share His word with others.

1 Peter 3:15b “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.” (NIV)

We can have hope in God because of who He is and all the great things He has done.

1 Peter 1:21 “Through Christ you have come to trust in God. And you have placed your faith and hope in God because he raised Christ from the dead and gave him great glory.” (NLT)

Our hope in God will give us strength to do great things for Him that will bring Him glory.

FOCUS:
Isaiah 40:31 “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.” (NIV)

December 9, 2019 WORKING FOR GOD

Many of us dread going to work daily. We look forward to the day we can retire or find another job that is more fulfilling. However, we can be good stewards for God in the work we do no matter where the job is – at home, in the community, or for a company. When we work with enthusiasm remembering we are working for the Lord in all we do, we can be good stewards for God. When we seek to motivate others in our work and look for ways to add value to them, we can be good stewards for God. The actions and attitudes we have while we are working should show others we are children of God.

SCRIPTURE:
Titus 2:7 “And you yourself must be an example to them by doing good works of every kind. Let everything you do reflect the integrity and seriousness of your teaching.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you attitude you have about your work.
2. List ways you can remember you are really working for God.
3. Know you are a witness for God in all you do.
4. Remember to be more positive at work and do good works for God.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know being good stewards for You is important in our work. Not many of us enjoy working because we feel like we could be doing something else much more exciting and fun. However, we know when we put our focus on You and remember we are working for You, we can be a better example in our work. Help us to be good stewards as we work whether it be at home, in the community or on the job. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Being good stewards for God should be reflected in the work we do for Him.

Ephesians 6:7 “Work with enthusiasm, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” (NLT)

We are think of ways we can motivate and help others in the work we do so we can give God the glory.

Hebrews 10:24 “Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” (NLT)

We are to work willingly and enthusiastically as good stewards for God remembering we are really working for Him despite the company we work for or the boss we have.

FOCUS:
Colossians 3:23 “Work willingly at whatever you do, as though you were working for the Lord rather than for people.” (NLT)

December 8, 2019 GOOD STEWARDS WITH MONEY

Many of us struggle with money. We just don’t know why we can’t get ahead. We may believe we just don’t have enough to make ends meet…much less give to others. However, not tithing is the reason we are in a financial mess. When we don’t give God back the first of what we receive from Him every month, we are choosing to disobey what He has called us to do. We are telling Him we don’t trust Him enough to take care of us and our money because we want to control it ourselves. We should set aside our firsts for God because He is the reason we are blessed with the money in the first place. Being good stewards with our money means we give back to God with what He has blessed us with.

SCRIPTURE:
Deuteronomy 14:22 “You must set aside a tithe of your crops—one-tenth of all the crops you harvest each year.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write down how much you make each month.
2. List the things you spend your money on.
3. Ask God to help you make tithing and giving a priority.
4. Pray and decide to put aside money for God first.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we are so blessed to have the money we have every month. Forgive us that we sometimes think we don’t make enough and we don’t give You what we should. Forgive us for not allowing You to handle our finances. Forgive us for not trusting in You with all we have. We want to obey You in all areas of our lives. Remind us we should give back to You the portion You require us to as an act of obedience and faith in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
If we need more money, we should trust God to help us with our finances by giving Him control and allowing Him to help us to make right financial choices.

We are to give back to God a portion of what He has blessed us with as an act of obedience and faith. God wants us to give to Him so He can bless us!

Malachi 3:10 “‘Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,’ says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, ‘I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!’” (NLT)

Tithing is mentioned in both the Old Testament and the New Testament; however, so many of us forget to include that part of obedience in our lives.

When we tithe, we are honoring God. Whatever we have, we should give back to God a portion of it.

FOCUS:
Proverbs 3:9 “Honor the LORD with your wealth and with the best part of everything you produce.” (NLT)

December 7, 2019 INTENTIONAL LIVING

We all make choices every day. Some say we make thousands of them daily. Some choices are routine and small. Others are detrimental and significant. Living intentionally as a good steward for God requires us to make better choices. We can make intentional choices being better stewards for God in our finances, health, career, ministry, relationships and spirituality. We can make intentional choices doing what is right, serving others and giving God the glory. We can also intentionally encourage one another to do good.

SCRIPTURE:
Hebrews 10:23-24 “Let us hold tightly without wavering to the hope we affirm, for God can be trusted to keep his promise. Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you choose to do daily.
2. List how you live intentionally for God.
3. Know God has great plans for you.
4. Go to God and ask Him how you can be a better steward doing His will.

PRAYER:
Lord, we know You want us to intentionally live for You. That means we need to make better choices. We need to choose to be good stewards in all areas of our lives. We need to love others and help them. We need to act on purpose rather than just living to get by. We are so grateful for Your love. Help us to share it today in all we do. Help us to intentionally live for You and give to others. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We know we have the freedom to do whatever we want but God wants us to intentionally live for Him.

1 Corinthians 6:12 “You say, ‘I am allowed to do anything’—but not everything is good for you. And even though ‘I am allowed to do anything,’ I must not become a slave to anything.” (NLT)

As believers, we are made new and should make choices that reflect we are followers of God.

2 Corinthians 5:17 “This means that anyone who belongs to Christ has become a new person. The old life is gone; a new life has begun!” (NLT)

Our choices come from our thinking. When we fix our thoughts on God, we will make better and more intentional choices.

FOCUS:
Philippians 4:8 “Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.” (NLT)

December 6, 2019 RESIST!!

We are all tempted. Daily. We sometimes fall into our own daily habits of doing wrong. Other times, the devil hits us when we are weak hoping we will give into temptation. Being good stewards of God means we are to prepare for temptations just as Jesus did. Reading Luke 4:1-13 will show us exactly what Jesus did. He resisted. He quoted Scripture. The devil left Him and Jesus didn’t sin. Preparation from reading God’s word will help us be good stewards for God and resist temptations so we can do His will.

SCRIPTURE:
Luke 4:13 “When the devil had finished tempting Jesus, he left him until the next opportunity came.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you have been tempted.
2. List what you have done to resist temptations.
3. Know God wants you to use His word to resist.
4. Stay in God’s word and prepare now so you can resist your next temptation.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we cannot be good stewards for You if we are giving in to temptations. We know the devil is ready and seeking anyone he can devour. We know You want us to be alert and clearheaded and use Your word to resist the devil so he will flee from us. Help us to prepare daily so we can recognize when we are being tempted and we can be ready to resist. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We all have temptations in life. But God is faithful and will show us a way out if we believe and trust in Him.

1 Corinthian 10:13 “The temptations in your life are no different from what others experience. And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand. When you are tempted, he will show you a way out so that you can endure.” (NLT)

God wants us to be protected using His word to help us steer away from temptations in this world.

1 Thessalonians 5:8 “But let us who live in the light be clearheaded, protected by the armor of faith and love, and wearing as our helmet the confidence of our salvation.” (NLT)

1 Peter 5:8 “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.” (NLT)

FOCUS:
James 4:7 “Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” (NIV)

December 5, 2019 A SPECIAL GIFT

It’s hard to find that special gift. That gift others will not put aside or return. While we are scrambling around and racking our brains to decide on a great gift to give to our friends and loved ones, we may be forgetting all the gifts God has for us. Of the many, many gifts God gives, one of them is peace. His peace is something the world cannot give to us. This world is full of conflict, turmoil, hate and everything evil. But when we accept God’s peace, we will have the peace that passes all understanding. So instead of stressing about the holidays, let’s focus on God and accept the gift of peace He has for us so we can be good stewards for God.

SCRIPTURE:
John 14:27 “I am leaving you with a gift—peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So don’t be troubled or afraid.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do to find peace.
2. List ways God gives you peace.
3. Remember to focus on God.
4. Know He gives the gift of peace that the world cannot give.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we easily get pulled into this world. We know we get side-tracked and forget about You. Help us to draw close to You. Help us to be good stewards doing Your will. Help us to keep our focus on You and accept Your gift of peace. We know when we focus on Your presence, we will feel Your gift of peace. Thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Wouldn’t it be great to have peace from God in all we do?

2 Thessalonians 3:16 “Now may the Lord of peace himself give you his peace at all times and in every situation. The Lord be with you all.” (NLT)

Colossians 1:20b “He made peace with everything in heaven and on earth by means of Christ’s blood on the cross.” (NLT)

Rather than focusing on conflict and the evil in this world, we can be good stewards for God by focusing on His presence so we can accept His peace.

FOCUS:
Colossians 3:15 “And let the peace that comes from Christ rule in your hearts. For as members of one body you are called to live in peace. And always be thankful.” (NLT)

December 4, 2019 BEING GOOD STEWARDS OF TIME

Managing our time is pretty important this time of year because we are scheduling parties, shopping and attending our children’s events. We are working, continuing to manage the household and trying to keep from getting stressed. Being good stewards of our time is important. A good steward uses time wisely. We do that by knowing what is important and doing those things first. God is the most important part of our lives. Giving Him the first of our time every day will help us get everything else done.

SCRIPTURE:
Matthew 6:33 “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (KJV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do first every day.
2. List ways you manage your time.
3. Know God wants to be the first part of your day.
4. Remember to go to Him in all things – all day long.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we tend to spend the most time on what we want to do the most. It may be television, news, games, family, sports, etc. However, we also know our time spent with You is the best investment for our spiritual growth and for eternity. Help us to put You first in our day in the morning, at noon and at night. We want to better manage our time according to Your will. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to start our mornings with Jesus and ask Him how to make the best use of our time for the day.

Mark 1:35 “Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray.” (NLT)

To make the best use of our time, we should do all we do for God’s glory.

1 Corinthians 10:31 “So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.” (NLT)

When we take time for God, He will give us all we need to get everything else done.

FOCUS:
Psalm 37:4 “Take delight in the Lord, and he will give you your heart’s desires.” (NLT)

December 3, 2019 WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY

Many of us hear or see what advertisers call great opportunities. When something goes on sale that we really want, we have an opportunity to purchase it and get a bargain. However, there is usually a time limit on it and if miss that window of opportunity, we are left with nothing. God gives us opportunities every day to do His will, share His word, help someone, etc. Those opportunities are only for a moment and if we want to be good stewards for God, we need to act on them. If we don’t act on them, we miss that window of opportunity. Acting on opportunities to obey God will bring blessings to us and others.

SCRIPTURE:
Acts 3:12-13a “Peter saw his opportunity and addressed the crowd. ‘People of Israel,’ he said, ‘what is so surprising about this? And why stare at us as though we had made this man walk by our own power or godliness? For it is the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob—the God of all our ancestors—who has brought glory to his servant Jesus by doing this.’” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write about a time you acted on an opportunity to help someone.
2. List the things you can do today to be more aware of opportunities to help.
3. When you help someone, give God the glory and share His word with them.
4. Know God wants you to act on opportunities so others can know how great He is.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know being a good steward means helping others and taking advantage of every opportunity to do good to them. Help us to see where both believers and unbelievers are in need so we can give to them and give You glory. We want to be more aware of what is going on around us and take action to help. Show us Your way, Lord, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to look for opportunities to do good to both believers and non-believers.

Galatians 6:10 “Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.” (NLT)

Colossians 4:5 “Live wisely among those who are not believers, and make the most of every opportunity.” (NLT)

James 1:2 “Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles of any kind come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy.” (NLT)

Rather than getting pulled into this evil world, let’s make the most of every opportunity to do good and give glory to God.

FOCUS:
Ephesians 5:6 “Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days.” (NLT)

December 2, 2019 OUR BODIES

Disciplining ourselves to take care of our bodies isn’t easy. However, we are to remember our bodies are just temporary. We only have them a short while and God wants us to care for them. We see people who are at the gym taking care of their bodies. We see people eating healthy as well. However, working out and eating right are just two ways to take care of our bodies. We need to ensure we take care of our bodies in other ways as well. God tells us to use our bodies as living and holy sacrifices to Him. The Holy Spirit of God lives in our bodies and we are treat them as His temple. Being good stewards by taking care of our bodies means to take care of them both inside and out.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 6:13 “Do not let any part of your body become an instrument of evil to serve sin. Instead, give yourselves completely to God, for you were dead, but now you have new life. So use your whole body as an instrument to do what is right for the glory of God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you do with your body that is pleasing to God.
2. List things you need to stop doing to your body.
3. Remember your body is the temple for God’s Holy Spirit.
4. Don’t let your body be any part of evil.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we often do things without thinking. We do things to our bodies without realizing the consequences. Help us to think about what we are doing to our bodies today that may not be pleasing to You. Remind us in all we do that our bodies are holy and living sacrifices to You. Help us to take better care of our bodies and give thanks to You for these bodies every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to remember our body is the temple of the Holy Spirit.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” (NLT)

We are to treat our bodies as living and holy sacrifices to God.

Romans 12:1 “And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God because of all he has done for you. Let them be a living and holy sacrifice—the kind he will find acceptable. This is truly the way to worship him.” (NLT)

We are to live in obedience to God by staying away from sexual sin.

FOCUS:
1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 “God’s will is for you to be holy, so stay away from all sexual sin. Then each of you will control his own body and live in holiness and honor—not in lustful passion like the pagans who do not know God and his ways.” (NLT)

December 1, 2019 GOOD STEWARDS SACRIFICE

Stewardship means caring. When we care for the things God has blessed us with, we are being good stewards. We can be better stewards of our time by doing more for God. We can be better stewards with our bodies by taking better care of them. All that God has created is for us to care for and to thank Him for. We can thank Him through praise and worship. When we sacrifice our lives to Him with our time, tithe, and treasures, then we are being good stewards for God.

SCRIPTURE:
Genesis 8:20-21a “Then Noah built an altar to the Lord, and there he sacrificed as burnt offerings the animals and birds that had been approved for that purpose. And the Lord was pleased with the aroma of the sacrifice” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you give up for God.
2. List what things you sacrifice to show Him you love Him.
3. Know God wants you to obey Him.
4. Seek ways to be good stewards and sacrifice your life to God.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we thank You for the many blessings You give to us. We know that being a good steward with our blessings is what You call us to do. Help us to follow Your will and live in obedience to You. We want to serve You with all we have. Show us what we can give to show You our love and devotion. Show us how to better serve You and help others. In Your name we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are called to live our lives to love God and serve only Him.

Deuteronomy 10:12 “And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God require of you? He requires only that you fear the Lord your God, and live in a way that pleases him, and love him and serve him with all your heart and soul.” (NLT)

We are make thankfulness our sacrifice to God giving Him the glory for all He does and all He is.

Psalm 50:14 “Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High.” (NLT)

When we are faithful to God, we will want to give up our lives and live only for Him.

FOCUS:
Philippians 2:17a “Your faith makes you offer your lives as a sacrifice in serving God.” (NCV)

November 30, 2019 ETERNAL EXPECTATIONS

It has been said whatever we expect to happen…will happen. It actually has been proven time and time again. A sick person expects to get better and does. A business owner expects to be successful and is. A young person expects to find a spouse and does. The results of these expectations don’t happen because the person wishes it to happen. These things happen because of the actions these people take due to their attitude and determination. Our expectations for eternal life should drive us to take better actions while we are here on earth. We are saved by God’s grace and we can’t earn that; however, we can take action and live as believers with great expectations about our priceless inheritance God has for us.

SCRIPTURE:
1 Peter 1:3-4 “All praise to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ. It is by his great mercy that we have been born again, because God raised Jesus Christ from the dead. Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write your expectations of eternity.
2. List what you can do now to live with great expectations.
3. Know God is on your side and will help you live for Him.
4. Allow the Holy Spirit to work through you to live with eternal expectations.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, help us as we plan our lives. Help us to remember to have great eternal expectations about Your promises of spending forever with You. We know Heaven is a glorious place where we will live for eternity. We know what we do on this earth will help others to know You and have great eternal expectations as well. Help us to live a life that is pleasing to You. We want our goals to be Your desire for our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
God’s plan is revealed to us in His word and we are to live with great expectations of what He can do in our lives.

Ephesians 1:9-10 “God has now revealed to us his mysterious will regarding Christ—which is to fulfill his own good plan. And this is the plan: At the right time he will bring everything together under the authority of Christ—everything in heaven and on earth.” (NLT)

God is able to help us with our thoughts, give us energy, inspire us and show us how to live a happy life as we serve only Him. We should set our goals in life to live only for Him.

“If you want to be happy, set a goal that commands your thoughts, liberates your energy, and inspires your hopes.” ~Andrew Carnegie

When we live to do the will of God and it is our goal in life, He will give us the vision of what He wants us to do and help us to do what is right.

FOCUS:
Psalm 84:11b “The Lord will withhold no good thing from those who do what is right.” (NLT)

November 28, 2019 GRATITUDE

Thanksgiving. It is a time to reflect on our blessings. It is a time to be grateful for what we have rather than wishing we had more. Human nature causes us to desire more. However, God wants us to be content with what we have and be grateful. We can experience great success when we are happy with what we have rather than seeking more all the time. We can find our greater purpose in life by living a life of gratitude and giving to others. When we offer thankfulness as our sacrifice to God, we will be grateful for what He has blessed us with. We will be more aware of it and seek ways to serve others with those blessings. And that IS something to be grateful for.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 50:14 “Make thankfulness your sacrifice to God, and keep the vows you made to the Most High.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you are grateful for.
2. List ways you can show gratitude to God and others.
3. Know gratitude is a way to a better life.
4. Seek ways to serve others and show gratitude to God.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we thank You. Thank You for Your goodness, Your mercy and Your love. We thank You for the blessings and Your promises. We thank You for Jesus who died for us so we can have eternal life. We thank You for this great earth and the things You provide to us from it. We thank You for the special gifts You give to us so we can serve You and others. Help us to remember to be grateful in all things, Lord. Not just today but every day. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Colossians 3:17 “And whatsoever ye do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God and the Father by him.” (KJV)

Give thanks to God for who He is and for all He has done.

Colossians 3:16 “Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.” (NIV)

1 Chronicles 16:34 “Give thanks to the Lord, for he is good! His faithful love endures forever.” (NLT)

Give thanks to God for those you know and for the special gifts He has given to them.

FOCUS:
Philippians 1:3 “Every time I think of you, I give thanks to my God.” (NLT)

November 27, 2019 EAGER EXPECTATIONS

We all remember eagerly awaiting something in our lives. It may have been a birthday, Christmas morning, our wedding, or a special trip. Eager expectation is about hope. We hope for something good. We hope for something we can’t yet experience. With God, we can have that hope. A greater hope. We can have eager expectations knowing one day we will be with Him and be like Him and see Him for who He really is. While we are here on earth, we are to do His will and prepare ourselves so we are ready for His return.

SCRIPTURE:
1 John 3:2-3 “Dear friends, we are already God’s children, but he has not yet shown us what we will be like when Christ appears. But we do know that we will be like him, for we will see him as he really is. And all who have this eager expectation will keep themselves pure, just as he is pure.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what expectations you have about Christ’s return.
2. List the things you need to do now to prepare for His return.
3. Know God wants you to be ready by living in obedience to Him.
4. Live with great expectation knowing you will one day be with Jesus.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we can make many plans on this earth. There are many things we want to see and do. However, we need to remember our greatest expectations should be about life in eternity with You. We want to focus on Jesus’ return and eternal life. Help us to prepare now. Help us to know what to do to be ready. We want to have eager expectations every day for Your return. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Jesus is coming back. It is going to happen. We can live with eager expectations and prepare for His return or we can choose to live like this world.

1 Peter 1:3b-4 “Now we live with great expectation, and we have a priceless inheritance—an inheritance that is kept in heaven for you, pure and undefiled, beyond the reach of change and decay.” (NLT)

God is wanting to do great things in us so we can do more than we think we can as we prepare for His return.

Ephesians 3:20 “Now all glory to God, who is able, through his mighty power at work within us, to accomplish infinitely more than we might ask or think.” (NLT)

Turning away from our pride and keeping our focus on God will help us to prepare for His return.

FOCUS:
2 Corinthians 10:5 “We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ.” (NLT)

November 26, 2019 WHAT’S OUR DESTINY?

There are two types of destiny in life. One is where we will all end up one day and nothing can change that. The other is controlled by us. Winston Churchill says destiny is not a matter of chance but of choice. It is something to be achieved. Yes, we will all die one day but what we do with our lives right now is what can make an impact on others and how we will be remembered. God says whatever we do, do well, because when we are at the end of our lives it is too late.

SCRIPTURE:
Ecclesiastes 9:2, 10 “The same destiny ultimately awaits everyone, whether righteous or wicked, good or bad, ceremonially clean or unclean, religious or irreligious. Good people receive the same treatment as sinners, and people who make promises to God are treated like people who don’t. Whatever you do, do well. For when you go to the grave, there will be no work or planning or knowledge or wisdom.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what your destiny is in life.
2. List the things you have done to control your destiny.
3. Know God has a perfect plan for your life.
4. Seek God’s will and follow through in obedience to Him.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we are all going to die one day. We know our lives are just a brief moment of time here on earth. Help us to make the most of each day You have blessed us with. We want to do Your will and allow Your plans for us to be our destiny. Whether we make a positive impact on one or many, we want to completely do Your will. Help us, we pray. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we begin making plans for our lives, we need to go to God and seek His way for He tells us His plans are good.

Jeremiah 29:11 “‘For I know the plans I have for you,’ says the Lord. ‘They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.’” (NLT)

God has the best destiny in mind for all of us. We should seek His way and live to do His will.

Job 23:14 “So he will do to me whatever he has planned. He controls my destiny.” (NLT)

God wants to lead us all to a glorious destiny. But the choice is ours.

FOCUS:
Psalm 73:24 “You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny.” (NLT)

November 25, 2019 GETTING THINGS DONE

Why don’t we get things done? There are many reasons; however, there is only one person to blame. That is us. We don’t get things done because we give up, stop caring or get distracted. God knows this. He knows what distracts us, limits us and tempts us. He is aware of this…but are we? It’s time we determine what is holding us back and ask God to help us move past it. Figuring out our barriers to do God’s will can help us create a plan to get past those barriers and live the good life He has planned for us.

SCRIPTURE:
Ephesians 6:13 “Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write out what God wants you to do.
2. List what things are holding you back.
3. Know God wants to help you.
4. Pray and prepare yourself to be bold and do God’s will.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we allow so many things to distract us from doing Your will. We get lazy. We get sidetracked. We get down and out. Help us, we pray. We want to prepare our hearts and minds by reading Your word. We want to remember we can do all things through Christ. We want to recall You are with us and will work for us and in us. Use us today, Lord. Use us today. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to rely completely on God to get us through the barriers that keep us from doing His will.

Philippians 4:13 “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (NLT)

God has the power to help us get things done according to His will. The more we are filled with His power and His love, we the more we can do for Him.

2 Timothy 1:7 “For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.” (NLT)

We are to understand our limitations and recognize our distractions and temptations so we are ready to do God’s will when it is time.

FOCUS:
Isaiah 41:10 “Don’t be afraid, for I am with you. Don’t be discouraged, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you. I will hold you up with my victorious right hand.” (NLT)

November 24, 2019 WHEN WE ARE DOWN AND OUT

No one expects us to do great things when we are going through hard times or dealing with grief. There will be times in life where we aren’t able to work on the goals God has for us because we are suffering. However, we can still trust in God. We can still read His word. We can still fellowship with Him and other believers. During our season of grief or hard times, we can use it as an opportunity to grow and learn from what we are dealing with as we rely on God to help us.

SCRIPTURE:
Ecclesiastes 8:14 "Sometimes something useless happens on earth. Bad things happen to good people, and good things happen to bad people." (NCV)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you have done in hard times.
2. List ways you can draw close to God when times are tough.
3. Know God wants you to reach out to Him.
4. Look for opportunities to grow in hard times.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we all have hard times. We have grief. We have sorrow. We have unpleasant experiences. However, we know we have Your promises. We know You are near. You tell us not to be afraid. You tell us we can trust in You. You tell us You will help us in all things. Thank You for Your love, Your comfort and Your protection. Help us to grow closer to You in hard times. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When we can’t see straight because of what we are dealing with in life, we can go to God for help.

Psalm 6:7 “My vision is blurred by grief; my eyes are worn out because of all my enemies.” (NLT)

When we are dealing with grief or hard times, we can choose not to be afraid and remember God is with us.

Psalm 23:4 “Even when I walk through the darkest valley, I will not be afraid, for you are close beside me. Your rod and your staff protect and comfort me.” (NLT)

God promises to rescue the brokenhearted. We should go to Him when we are down and out knowing He will help us.

FOCUS:
Psalm 34:18 “The Lord is close to the brokenhearted; he rescues those whose spirits are crushed.” (NLT)

November 23, 2019 CONFIDENT TRUST

In order to keep going and get things done, we need confidence. Not confidence in ourselves but confident trust in God. Most people we depend on in life will let us down. However, God will never let us down. He wants us to rely on Him. He wants us to trust in Him. He reminds us time and time again He will be with us, for us, and in us so we can follow through doing His will.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Corinthians 3:4-5 “We are confident of all this because of our great trust in God through Christ. It is not that we think we are qualified to do anything on our own. Our qualification comes from God.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write how you show you have confident trust in God.
2. List ways you can encourage others to have confident trust.
3. Know God always wants what is best for you.
4. Step out in faith with confident trust in God as you do His will.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we pray You will remind us daily that we can put our trust in You. Remind us we can be confident You will show us Your way. You will be with us in good times and bad. You will be for us when we stand strong against wrongdoing. You will be in us as You guide us down the right path to do Your will. And we thank You, Lord. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We should always have confident trust in God knowing He will be with us as we do His will.

Hebrews 10:35 “So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you!” (NLT)

God will give us new strength when we put our trust in Him.

Isaiah 40:31 “But those who trust in the Lord will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.” (NLT)

God is ready to help us when we are in trouble and we should go to Him with confident trust.

FOCUS:
Psalm 46:1 “God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble.” (NLT)

November 22, 2019 AIM HIGH

When setting our goals, we sometimes aim too low. We find ourselves setting easy and attainable goals but they don’t stretch us and help us grow. Despite our income, our status, our jobs, our family, we can all set high goals for God. Why? Because when we are doing His will, we have His power and Holy Spirit to guide us. Also, we can set spiritual goals. We can be spiritually rich despite our background, experience, ethnicity, age, etc. Aim high to be rich in eternal rewards by doing the will of God every day.

SCRIPTURE:
2 Corinthians 6:10 “Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write where you may be aiming too low.
2. List what God wants you to aim for in life.
3. Know God wants you to ask Him for His help.
4. Step out in faith and follow the path of God for spiritual and eternal riches.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we sometimes aim too low in life or we don’t aim at all. Other times we aim high but it is for the wrong things and the wrong reasons. Help us to know Your plan for our lives, to ask You for help and to aim high doing Your will as we put our trust in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
To be rich in this world is nothing. To be spiritual rich with eternal rewards is everything.

James 1:9-10a “Believers who are poor should take pride that God has made them spiritually rich.” (NCV)

Whatever we aim for in life, we will get. Let’s be sure we aim high to do great things for God.

“The great danger for most of us is not that our aim is too high, and we miss it, but that it is too low and we reach it.” ~Michaelangelo

God wants to bless us and help us as we aim high to do His will. We need to ask Him and believe He will answer.

FOCUS:
1 Chronicles 4:10 “Jabez cried out to the God of Israel, ‘Oh, that you would bless me and enlarge my territory! Let your hand be with me, and keep me from harm so that I will be free from pain.’ And God granted his request.” (NIV)

November 21, 2019 CLEANING IS REQUIRED

Most of us don’t like to clean. We don’t like to maintain the things we have and take care of them until something breaks down. Sometimes we fail to maintain our bodies and our minds. There are things we need in life to keep going. The basics are food, water and shelter. However, to really reach the possibilities in life that God created us to do, we need more. We need God to cleanse us. We need God to guide us. Without confessing our sins, we will continue to carry many burdens and sins that will keep us from fully doing the will of God.

SCRIPTURE:
James 5:16 “Confess your sins to each other and pray for each other so that you may be healed. The earnest prayer of a righteous person has great power and produces wonderful results.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you need to confess.
2. List the things you should clean from your life.
3. Know God wants to hear your confessions.
4. Remember only God can completely cleanse you and renew you.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we want to confess our sin to You today. We know we have been doing wrong. We know we have attempted to do many things on our own without You. We know we have had wrong thoughts, words and actions. Help us to seek You and confess our sins. Thank You for listening, for caring and for forgiving us. In Your name we pray. Amen.

REMEMBER:
Without God’s guiding light for our path, we will continue to walk around aimlessly in life doing nothing in particular rather than the great plans God has in store for us.

Psalm 119:105 “Your word is a lamp to guide my feet and a light for my path.” (NLT)

Refusing to confess sin will hold us back from doing the will of God.

Psalm 32:3 “When I refused to confess my sin, my body wasted away, and I groaned all day long.” (NLT)

God wants us to confess our sin and know He will forgive and cleanse us.

FOCUS:
1 John 1:9 “If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” (KJV)

November 20, 2019 FILLED COMPLETELY WITH JOY

Setting goals and attempting to reach them can be strenuous, disappointing and stressful. However, many believe the joy in setting goals is the journey and not the final destination. When we struggle through our journey to reach our goals in life, we are to have joy as we do so. We can have joy in the setbacks, the trials and the suffering as we do God’s will every day and trust in Him. When we realize setbacks are inevitable, we can prepare for them and rejoice knowing God will help us through them.

SCRIPTURE:
Romans 15:13 “I pray that God, the source of hope, will fill you completely with joy and peace because you trust in him. Then you will overflow with confident hope through the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you are trying to accomplish.
2. List the negative thoughts that fill your mind.
3. Know God wants you to have joy and trust in Him.
4. Seek God’s word and pray to be filled with completely joy.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, we know we get disappointed so much in life. We set goals and have setbacks time and time again. Help us to stay on track for You. Help us to remember You call us to have joy in all things. Help us remember to enjoy the process of doing Your will and completely trust in You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
When stress attempts to get the best of us, we can find joy in God’s word.

Psalm 119:143 “As pressure and stress bear down on me, I find joy in your commands.” (NLT)

When we are faced with troubles, we can trust in God for His joy to fill our hearts and minds.

2 Corinthians 6:10 “Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything.” (NLT)

When we have doubts in our minds, we can trust in God for His comfort and cheer.

FOCUS:
Psalm 94:19 “When doubts filled my mind, your comfort gave me renewed hope and cheer.” (NLT)

November 19, 2019 REFUSE TO BE BITTER

We have probably bit into something expecting it to taste really sweet only to discover that it is bitter. We are taken by surprise and immediately spit it out because it is not what we expected. Bitterness isn’t good. When we have bitterness in our hearts, it tears us up inside. It is senseless. Holding grudges and seeking ways to hurt others because we have been hurt only makes things worse. Rather than storing bitterness in our hearts, we need to store love. When we choose to get rid of the bitterness and replace it with love, God will help us to live a better life and not a bitter one.

SCRIPTURE:
Psalm 73:21-26 “Then I realized that my heart was bitter, and I was all torn up inside. I was so foolish and ignorant—I must have seemed like a senseless animal to you. Yet I still belong to you; you hold my right hand. You guide me with your counsel, leading me to a glorious destiny. Whom have I in heaven but you? I desire you more than anything on earth. My health may fail, and my spirit may grow weak, but God remains the strength of my heart; he is mine forever.” (NLT)

ACTION STEPS:
1. Write what you may be bitter about.
2. List the things bitterness can do to you.
3. Know God wants you to show forgiveness and love.
4. Seek God’s will and depend on Him for strength to refuse to be bitter.

PRAYER:
Dear Lord, sometimes we can’t see our own bitter hearts until we are so far gone in our own self-pity that no one wants to be around us. Help us to recognize any bitterness in our lives and seek Your forgiveness. Help us to forgive others and be kind so we can show Your love to others. We want to stop being selfish and start being selfless putting the needs of others before our own. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

REMEMBER:
We are to help one another through prayer and encouraging words so we don’t grow bitter.

Hebrews 12:15 “Look after each other so that none of you fails to receive the grace of God. Watch out that no poisonous root of bitterness grows up to trouble you, corrupting many.” (NLT)

1 Corinthians 13:7 “Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance.” (NLT)

Proverbs 14:10 “Each heart knows its own bitterness, and no one else can fully share its joy.” (NLT)

God wants us to get rid of all bitterness and replace it with love.

FOCUS:
Ephesians 4:31 “Get rid of all bitterness, rage, anger, harsh words, and slander, as well as all types of evil behavior. Instead, be kind to each other, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, just as God through Christ has forgiven you.” (NLT)

Today is the best day to begin making changes for yourself and others both inside and out!
