Santosh and I stopped by Silver Oak on the way back from my Dr.'s appt yesterday, mostly to see their new tasting room (the old one was destroyed by fire a couple of years ago, and they've been tasting out of a trailer all this time).

The room is beautiful, with imported limestone that came from an old torn-down farmhouse in Kansas. We tasted their current releases and I ended up getting a bottle of the 2004 Napa Valley- 86% cab, with some cab franc, merlot and petit verdot. Nice stuff...and what a beautiful day in Napa it was!

Just went to one very near to my hometown on Friday night. Looks like it will be a regular visit every other Friday eve with girlfriends. Its great! Sitting outdoors by the fire, listening to piano music being played by son of the owner. It was the best and can't wait to go again!

My last visit was at Boordy in Maryland. I really had not tried many of their wines. Ends up I really love many of their local wines. And the bottles are fun and beautiful too. Their Ruby Port is awesome.

I grew up and started off in the wine industry in Woodinville, WA. I now am an Enologist in Eastern Washington. So other than being at a winery everyday, the last place that I visited is Plaza Socievole Winery in Prosser, WA. Their signature white blend, Harmony, is awesome.

We went to the Cohn winery and several others a few weeks ago in Sonoma/Napa. The highlight of that trip though was the Napa Valley Wine Train. I don't think I ever want to make the long trip to California without rewarding myself with the Wine Train.

Just returned from the Willamette Valley in Oregon. So beautiful and competes head to head with Napa and Sonoma. Stand out wineries were Dobbes Family Estate, Four Graces, Argyle, Domaine Drouhin and Ponzi. Recommend this area highly!!!!

We had talked for years about getting an RV and going cross country and just didn't make plans to do it. Christmas, 2007, I said to my husband, we're going this summer as soon as school is out! We drove to Denver, Colorado over a week, rented a motor home and spent 5 weeks making a big circle through the Rockies, to Mesa Verde, Grand Canyon, Lake Powell, Zion, Las Vegas, Sequoia, Yosemite, San Francisco, Napa Valley, Sonoma, Redwoods and Oregon Dunes, Portland, Glacier National, Yellowstone, Cody, Grand Tetons, Rocky Mountain National, Colorado Springs, Garden of the Gods, and back to Denver. We then drove our car over 2 weeks through New Mexico, Texas, Oklahoma,Hot Springs, Ark, Mammoth Caves, Louisville, W. Viginia, and stayed with my brother-in-law in Lynchberg, VA for a week, visiting several wonderful wineries in that area. Then we came home. It was one of the most memorable things I've done in my life.

A little more than you wanted to know???

I need to amend my statement. I found a wine store here and it had a decent selection though for the most part very overpriced. Our liquor laws changed here recently so we are growing up. I did a wine tasting up in Park City of their private selection.

Napa and Sonoma - about 10 wineries in 2 days in 2006. Will be going to Black Star Farms winery in northern Michigan this coming October. Black Star has a couple of outstanding late harvest desert wines.

No Wineries where I live (Utah). Barely decent wine selections in our state run liqour stores. So I have to go to California. My two kids and I visited my mother who lives in Alameda last year. I FORCED my family to a winery and felt like a wino when my mother wouldn't join me for a tasting and my kids just stood there looking at me. Later in the week I took some time out in San Fransico to do some wine tasting at store. Again alone. I did drive thru Michigan several years ago and I hit as many wineries as I could. MAN! That was great! I would love to have the freedom to just stop whenever I saw a winery. How FUN, how grown up. *SIGH*

We visited MI this weekend end, and I checked out Fenn Valley Winery. We also checked out the Tabor Hill tasting room in downtown Saugatuck. A local store carries their wine, so it was fun to taste something that I can pick up on a regular basis.

We've been to a local winery, yes there is a winery in FL...by the name of Lakeridge Wineries. There are some hills affectionately called the rockies of FL where the winery is located. Wines are produced from the muscadine so most of the wines are sweet but we find very enjoyable. Would love to visit Napa as I have family who have been there but would really enjoy going to OR if the situation presents itself.

I actually haven't been to a winery since I was 14! Went to the Finger Lakes area of New York State with my aunt and uncle on a camping trip, and we spent a couple of days visiting wineries. Taylor is the only name I can remember from the deep, dark recesses of my teenage years! I wasn't old enough to actually be able to join the winetasting, but they also had recipes cooked with wine, and those I could try. One place had wine sauced cocktail weinies, which were great until my motion sickness caught up with me an hour later! LOL! No wonder I didn't drink much wine after that until DH came into my life! Wine was a big part of our "letting him chase me 'til I caught him" courtship, and I love him having my glass of chablis or Chardonnay waiting for me when I walk in the door after work! We want to visit one soon - maybe we'll check out the Thousand Islands Winery this spring or summer.

Last fall I went to 3 Rivers Winery in Walla Walla, Washington. The staff was non-talkative to the point of rudeness with my son and I.
He had just been gabbing away with a previous couple. We felt rather put off by them because of it.
We each bought a bottle of wine and a wine glass charm that said Three Rivers Winery.
The wine was fantastic but the experience was forgettable.
Way different than the Aloha I experienced at the Maui Winery.

We had lunch at my boyfriend's winery last Saturday. He's there every day, but then he works there.

I'm lucky, I get to listen to the winemakers talk about entering contests, bottling, problems with various things, filtration, crystallization, labels being printed wrong and more... it's fun!

Today I got a lecture on the place in Portugal where the cork trees are grown and how they make the corks - one of the winemakers visited Portugal for two weeks and took tons of photos. Fun stuff! Then again, I don't work there. It might get old if I did it every day.

Last year when we went to the San Francisco/Saints game we took a road trip to Sonoma and did the wine country tour. I loved all of them except for the German (can't spell it Gudinlach, I think). I have been to wineries all over the country.

In fact last night I went to a Sterling Wine Tasting.

Many years ago, I went to Robert Mondavi in CA with my family. I was probably only 12 or so, but was allowed to take a couple tastes!
Just a couple years ago, my husband and I went to couple wineries in Washington state-Chateau St. Michelle and Snoqualmie.
I prefer red wines most of the time, but they make some great whites, too. Chateau st. Michelle has a great Reisling that's nice in the summer!

We toured Napa back at the tail end of June... visited and did tastings at Trefethen, Mumm, Rutherford Hill, Pine Ridge, and V. Sattui (where we had a great picnic with some excellent foods from their gourmet shop).

My favorite overall was a lovely reisling at Trefethen -- it's actually the reason we visited there (I had some during our stay at the Ahwanee and HAD to have a bottle to bring home!).

This weekend while on vacation in California I went to a local winery near my brother's home in Escondido, CA, called Belle Marie. They harvest their grapes in Mexico and then bring them up for production. They have some very nice blends, but my favorite was a barolo with a very long lovely finish. Yummy. Jill

This weekend I visited 6 local wineries on the Indy Wine Trail. It was a themed BBQ weekend. It was alot of fun, since I had never been to a winery around home.

I love fruity wines...so I bought a different flavor at each winery- Blackberry, Raspberry, Rhubarb, Cranberry Apple, Strawberry, and Blueberry.

How wonderful! It sounds like it was exquisite.
I have a wedding to plan for July 2009- we are torn between a winery here in CA or a boat on lake Michigan (his family is in Chicago). I think we're leaning toward the winery wedding; I get motion sickness....

My daughter got married in our local vineyard on Saturday! It was beautiful! We had the owners of the winery select 75 bottles of their most popular wines for us to serve at the reception (along with other refreshing drinks)and the guests had a great time trying out the different kinds. We had a wonderful time and we got so many compliments on the scenery and location. We had special labels put on the bottles with her and the groom's names. I am excited because there were bottles left, so being the mother-of-the-bride, I got to take a few bottles home!

Last weekend. Hour down the road!
R.H. Phillips. They have a great oaky chardonnay (for those who like it CA style)- unfiltered. TOASTED HEAD. Free tastings, and lots of fun events there.

KATGUARINO: Isn't Dariouch WONDEFUL? There are too many favs in Napa for me to pick even 10, but I'd have to say that Dariouch is in my top 10, as is their 2005 Napa Valley Shiraz: If your eyes were closed, you'd swear you were smelling a cup of dark roast espresso!! Amazing.

Oh, how cool to get married at a winery! I bet it's just beautiful. I was born and raised in PA so I know how pretty (and green) it can be!

Well, I have been to our local winery many times in the past few weeks because my daughter is getting married there next Saturday! She is walking through the vineyard and getting married outside and we are also having the reception there. The winery is Brookmere Winery in Belleville, PA. She is serving Indian Summer (a semi-sweet white wine) and a variety of other white and blush wines that are popular from there.

Hi. I'm new here and thought I'd jump right in. I just visited two different wineries, here in Colorado, just a couple of weekends ago.

My friend and I like to drink wine and visit wineries. There are some oustanding wineries right here in the beautiful Rocky Mountains.

The two we visited were Mountain Spirits Winery in Salida, CO, and Holy Cross Abbey Winery in Canon City. They both have award winning wines which I'm really fond of.

Anyway, HI! emoticon

Weekend of March 15, 2008, we went to Herrman MO and visited the wineries there; Stone Hill, Adam Puchta and Bommarito. My favorite of all of them is the Bommarito Winery. We bought one of their Nortons and two of the blush wines.

Weekend of April 5th we went to Weston MO for camping and visited the wineries there. There are only two, Pirlte Winery and Riverwood Winery. Riverwood is my favorite and we bought their Norton and two of their Ambivalent Whites. Plus we bought one Ambivalent White to drink there while enjoying a local musician.

We just went this weekend actually.

My Husband and I got married in the Finger Lakes region in NY, we love wine and the whole idea so we thought why not!! 7 months ago yesterday we were married at Ventosa Vineyards, so we went Monday to relax together with cheese and crackers and of course Wine!!!

We ended up buying a case of wine while we were there.

8- 2006 Ventosa Riesling (they were almost sold out
2- 2004 Saggio (red)
2- 2005 Cabernet Franc

The day was amazing and so much fun!! Unfortunately we drove all the way out there and only visited that one winery, there were so many more but we didn't have time...

Hi, new here but would love to comment.
My 1st and only trip to a winery was in March 08 in Maui.
It was the Maui Winery on the Ulupalakua Ranch.
It was so peaceful way up high in Maui cattle country on the slopes of the volcano.
I tasted the Ulupalakua Red, the Maui blanc, the Maui Splash, and the Rose Ranch Cuvee.
I bought the Ulupalakua and it was good.
The whole tour was very historical and more like a museum visit with wine! lol!

I was in Napa in January and visited a couple of wineries; Darioush, Paraduxx and Del Dotto. Del Dotto was our favorite; we purchased several bottles from them. I would recommend all three, especially if you like red wine.

Jill you will LOVE Paso Robles ! Trust me been there many times ;)

Also a comment on the Napa post ( Yes, totally agree ) Its getting so bad there that we decided to head only 30 minutes from our house now to a place called Livermore, Ca, home of Wente, however many many small wineries and some larger ones but its a place you can go in and chat with the workers and owners and its just awesome !!! We dont go to Napa anymore, I think its a bit overrated :)

Last October was my last visit to a local Ohio winery called Raven's Glen. They have a restaurant attached and its a nice drive for Sunday brunch, just about an hour east of Columbus.

In October of this year I will be going to the Paso Robles Fall Wine Harvest Festival in California. We have family friends that actually LIVE there and it should be a ton of fun. Hopefully I survive past the first day.

I really enjoy visiting wineries, but have not had that much of an opportunity over the years. My retirement dream is a trip to Brodeau, Burgandy and the Rhone in France and Tuscany in Italy. I have been to Napa-Sonoma in Caif. twice (2004 and 2006) and to Black Star Winery in the Traverse City area of Michigan (great late harvest Rieslings) and several times to Tabor Hill Winery on the west side of Michigan near Lake Michigan - twice to join in a harvest festival and was even part of a grape stomping team that received a trophy! - the four person mixed team was named "Sleazy and Easy" LOL,
My favorite winery is Pine Ridge in Napa. I joined their wine club and receive a bottle or two of their wine each month - I am also entitled to purchase wine direct from the winery at a 20% discount off list price and to tour their facility at any time at no cost - with up to 4 of my guests, and to be invited to their special events, dinners, tastings, etc. The trouble is I live too far away to take advantage of their special events and such.
The worst winery I visited was Opus in Napa - way too pretentious! Their noses were way, way up in the air. If you are going to charge more than $100.00 for your cheapest bottle then you should be a lot more friendly!
A great winery to visit is Sterling in Napa - you get a chalet ride up the mountain, and another is Chateau St. Jean in Sonoma - very friendly and informative staff, and the wine shop is second to none!
Take care, good luck on your winery shopping!

I live in the FingerLakes and we have a ton of great wineries. Did a wine tour of Seneca Lake a few weeks ago and ended up with two cases. Not what I planned on. I bought a lot more whites than I usually drink, not sure why. Had a great buzz on by the third winery though. Lots of Reislings, Pinot Noirs, Cabernets, a couple of Chards. Some of them tasted better at the winery than at home later on, not sure why. I visited Arcadian, Castel Grisch, Atwater, Leidenfrost, Chateau LaFayette Reneau, & Red Newt Cellars.

Christmas week 2007, I went to one winery in northeast Ohio and bought a case, mix of whites and reds. They had strange names but very good semi drys. They have only been open for 2 years. I'm not at home or would post which winery.

Tonight I'm on a business trip a few hours from my home and went to a huge liquor store in Missouri and found Black Box wine and bought the Merlot. I'll try that after I get home tomorrow. I also bought a bottle of Greg Norman's Cab. Haven't seen one of those before either. Would have preferred to actually have gone to the winery.

Lee

One step in front of the other will take me where I'm trying to go. It's just a matter of time.

Believe it or not, it's been over 2 years!

But, it was an amazing trip. We did the Yarra Valley just outside of Melbourne Australia.

We found some wonderful wines and visited about 6 vineyards. We just actually finished our last bottle this past Christmas.

Hmm... have been to Napa, and before that to Fess Parker Winery in Santa Barbara area - very close to Neverland which I saw today is being foreclosed on or something.

I think the most recent, tho, was one on Keuka Lake on the way home from an Amish buggy maker who was doing a top for one of our old cars. We bought a case of wine there, and a big tasting was going on, but I can't even remember the name of the winery!

Lots of wineries in Michigan in Leelenau Peninsula & Old Mission Peninsula. Good stuff up there

My last winery was in Missouri. I prefer reds & MO does better whites. It just gets too darn hot here in the summer for the reds. They do have a Norton, which is yummy!

Its not about the destination, rather the journey

It's been at least 6 months since I visted any wineries, but this is what I remember buying. These wineries are near the Pocono Mountains, PA.

Franklin Hill -
Country White (sweet)
Chambourcin (dry, oak)
Sir Walter's Red (fruity)
Harvest Berry (raspberry spumante)
Passion (strawberry-kiwi)

I'm tryimg to get my husband to like wine, so bough sweeter stuff, cause he would drink them... trying to move him along :-).

Amore Vineyards -
Red Rapture (Chamborcin with a touch of sweet)
Niagara - (sweet, fruity)

We also went oy Cherry Valley Vineyards, but I don't remember what we bought.

I highly recommend Glenora Vineyards in the Finger Lakes, NY.

Hi, I was just wondering about different Wineries around the country, I want to know when you last visited a Winery, where it was, and what type of wine did you purchase, if any, thanks. Here's mine;
Visited Tabor Hill Winery in Michigan on 2-23-08.
I purchased 2 bottles of wine: White Heritage (soft, dry, white) and Cherry Wine ( a soft sweet wine made from Michigan Cherries) Looking forward to hearing from you all. Inga emoticon
