It is forecasted to rain every darn day this week! I am finding this so discouraging that I think it is affecting my eating behaviors negatively and my emotional well being. emoticon

I was tired yesterday which made me want to eat. However, I stayed within my food boundaries. I didn't get exercise in, but this morning I put on my walking clothes and will go as soon as I finish sparking.

I love the motto in today's lesson:

IF YOU DON'T LOVE IT, LEAVE IT!

I have known about Linda's Dot Calendar and did my own version for a few months, but during a period when I was really struggling with consistency I let it go by the wayside. Now I have printed out Linda's calendar for October and want to give it another try. Wish I could find some green, yellow, & red stickers.

For the 5% Challenge, the instructions said that each team gets the first 40 people who request regardless of whether you were on the team previously or not. When I made my request I counted about 26 people so far who had requested Shooting Stars so I'm thinking it will work out.

Very busy week as I wrap up "stuff" at home before we leave for Europe next week.

I do hope you ladies who want to join the 5% get on the Shooting Stars! If not, we can still form our own chat room somewhere so we can help each other.

In the meantime, thanks Gill for thinking of us this morning and I hope you have a good day!

I put in my request for the Shooting STars team over on the 5% challenge team. Phyliss and Sue have requested it also. My dot calendar indicates that I'm not being very consistent. So, I'm hoping this team will be an additional level of motivation.

MadameJeanne, hope you are continuing to feel better.

Janet, sounds like you did well with your busy week. So happy to see how much fun your girls get-together was.

Sue, I like your way of testing. To taste several things would let you know what to choose.

For those of you interested in learning about the next 5% challenge, Lynn (KALISWALKER) posted an invitation. If you go to her page you can get there from her latest blog.

Yes, I'm finally back to the group. My Labor Day girlfriend weekend was awesome! Reconnected with 4 friends from college. It's the best thing I've done for myself in years. I didn't plan to stick with a plan, but I didn't go crazy. I didn't get back on my eating track completely until Wednesday. Just got back to walking yesterday. I had a guest on Tuesday night and another one on Thursday night. That was just making me busy, no deviations from my plan.

Thursday night I went to book group which included salad supper. My plan was to resist desserts. As everyone was leaving, I took a cookie! But why! I had plenty of delicious healthy food and did not need it! Other than that, I had done well all day!

I did resist the temptation to snack when not even hungry one afternoon. I realized I was tired. So that was a victory.

I didn't do any lessons last week. Sounds like those lessons are really important, so I will try to get them done before Monday.

Yesterday was crazy on several different levels, but at a funeral luncheon I had an opportunity to use some of our lessons. The desert table had several choices and I needed some nurturing. I took 4 different deserts for DH and me. I took 1-2 small bites of each one and decided I didn't really like any of them all that well except for one - a peanut butter sheet cake w/ maple flavored frosting 3x2 inch piece and I savored each bite!

I also changed my Start Page back to the Classic this morning. Your right, Gill, I already have enough check-lists in my BuJo to keep me in line.

I love this section of lessons we have been doing (and the next 5 as well). For me there are key to my success. emoticon

Is anyone in touch, personally, with Susan (FOCUSONME57) who used to be the leader of this team? Her Spark account seems to be 'inactive'. Donna (DSJB6666) reminded me that she was planning to get married to her sweetheart around this time......... we'd love to know that she's OK.

I missed an opportunity yesterday for the Half-Off challenge. Darn!

I had an unplanned walk with a friend which also included an unplanned stop at a coffee shop. Her M-I-L passed away this week and the funeral is tomorrow so our conversation was all about death and dying. I think this set off some emotional triggers in me along with the cost of the coffee. I ended up with a Mache Latte and a cookie of some kind. My friend turned down my offer to share so I ate the entire thing myself! I could have brought half home or even the whole cookie, but I could feel my brain in chaos and couldn't seem to calm down enough to control my thinking.

Last night was also the second night in a row that I fell into the All-Or-Nothing thinking and had a bowl of pistachios because I was mad at DH for having a his big bowl of popcorn after I had specifically bought him a Sweet Potato to go with his fish dinner so that he wouldn't be hungry later.

I will not let this defeat me!

Tonight is my Patio Party for my girlfriends. My intentions are set: One Plate One Glass!

Remember, Gill, we just had a lesson on Waist vs Waste. I say - throw them away! emoticon

So what is going on politically in the UK that has you worried? A funny (or actually not so funny) thing about America is that we get very little World News. It is almost embarrassing! My pen-pal in Germany is always writing and asking me questions about things she saw on the TV related to the U.S. So it seems the world watches us much more than we watch the world.

I had a craving yesterday afternoon. I am rather proud of myself for recognizing it! I was resting quietly on the couch reading the assigned book for the Book Club I attend. All of a sudden this feeling overcame me for something to eat. It was so intense I went to the kitchen in search and these thoughts were going through my mind - I need carbs. I need something crunchy. I feel a need for my hand-to-mouth syndrome. I poured myself a bowl of Kix cereal (small, round, the size of a blueberry, crunchy). I took the bowl back to the couch and munched while I read. Then I thought about more, but was successful in resisting. I had a cup of coffee w/ flavored creamer (my usual afternoon treat) instead. I was grateful that I stayed strong and that my brain quieted back down.

After dinner I had a couple sips of red wine left and thought about a piece of dark chocolate. Rich, smooth, creamy and chocolate goes so well with red wine. I had a sabotaging thought! Yes. I might as well have one because I already blew the No S rules today by having a Snack. One piece did the trick thank goodness.

Today I will do better!

Interesting to discover that it wasn't as great as you'd been expecting.

I had a big slice of chocolate fudge cake on Saturday - it is made by a local cafe who make delicious cakes. It was OK........... but not as fantastic as I'd been expecting. Did I eat it anyway? Yes, I did!

This evening, whilst cooking, I had three extra handfuls of salted roasted peanuts............. it was most definitely emotional eating; I was feeling very upset about some work thing, and I'm really terrified by what's happening here politically (UK). I also think perhaps I have a slightly sore throat..... that might be causing me to feel more vulnerable.

Salted peanuts/salted roasted nuts of any kind really, must be added to my list of things that I don't keep in the house. Sadly, they're not things I can buy loose - I'm told they go rancid and soft too quickly. The shop I went to today didn't have any of the small (individual?) packets, so I bought a 150g pack. I'm thinking maybe I should bin them......... but it seems such a waste!

Yesterday, in addition to it being Labor Day, we celebrated our granddaughter's 7th birthday. We had her and her brother over the entire w/e and it went very well, but they sure get crazy and start acting out once their parents show up. Family time is always a challenge because of this.

I stuck to my eating plan. Because it was an S day I had no specific restrictions, however, I remained mindful as I resisted a second helping of corn-on-the-cob and broccoli salad. Our GD does not like cake and so we had Ice Cream Pie for desert - Mint Chocolate Chip is her favorite right now and I had Butter Pecan as a second choice for the adults. I was surprised to notice my thoughts! I ate my piece of Butter Pecan, but didn't think it tasted all that great. How can that be? I love Butter Pecan ice cream?! ! !

Good Morning Everyone emoticon and Happy Labor Day to all those who live in the U.S.

Yesterday was Day 2 of the Half-Off Challenge. has anyone else taken up Linda's 5 day challenge?

After taking the GKs to a movie in the morning (which lasted a lot longer than planned!) we headed to a restaurant in our area at an apple orchard and has a 100 year history. It is VERY popular and so it is also VERY busy! We didn't get to eat lunch until 3:30 p.m.!

I had a glass of wine while we waited and listened to an awesome Sax player. For lunch I ate 1/2 of my Tuna Melt Sandwich and 1/2 of the Kettle Chips. I shared desert with DH and ate 1/2 of that under duress when he proclaimed - Is that all you're going to eat?! What I noticed yesterday and the day before is that I was actually full enough with having just 1/2! I didn't think about choosing "diet food" from the menu, but chose what sounded good to me and as my choices were not low-cal in any way I think it contributed to my not feeling deprived.

Yesterday's Half-Off Challenge went well. Ate lunch at TGIF's with the grandkids. I drank water and ordered Bourbon Glazed Wings. I counted out half, ate them, and offered the rest to DH who shared his Pot Stickers with me (I ate one of those). I noted something interesting about our grandkids. Both of them left food on the plate and reported they had enough because they were full! Geez, was I impressed. Never too old to learn from those young ones emoticon

Good Morning!

I didn't have such a great evening either = SNACK ATTACK! On the positive side, even though I did not weigh my BBQ Ribs and I ate 4 of them, I left a good portion of my Sweet Potato on my plate and when I thought about eating another serving of Caesar Salad I was able to tell myself "No Way"! Good thing we have Gill to inspire us with her determination emoticon and I will admit I'm not very good at sharing my food.

Janet - I don't see anything here from Maria. Is it a lesson post you are referring to?

Sue - Thank you for that information about protein. I can calm down about it.

Maria - Wow! You've come a long way. Thank you for sharing that. Weight loss is so much more than just calories.

My evening yesterday was not good. Refined foods. Grazing on refined foods when not hungry.

I'm spending this weekend with girlfriends from college. I'm very excited about it. We are each bringing our own breakfasts, then each person is providing a meal, leaving for home on Monday. My goal is to eat without insanity and to go low on high calorie foods. It is at a lake house, so plenty of ways to get some exercise. Then get back to plan on Monday.

I had two interesting food-related experiences today.

Firstly, I didn't get lunch until 2.30 pm, and when I did I was in a restaurant with a woman I was supporting. I ordered a spicy vegetable fajita (vegan option) which came with a lovely side-salad. When it arrived I felt disappointed that it had no sour-cream or cheese (because of being the vegan option). But actually, it was a lovely meal and plenty to eat. I was craving that creamy dairy stuff - but didn't need it.

Secondly, I met a friend after work and we popped into a cafe for tea. We shared a small slice of a lemon polenta cake. It was four mouthfuls each. In the past, I'd have been devastated at the thought of sharing a slice of cake - now it seems OK to me - and it was a nice thing to do.

These two things show me how much I've changed, for the better!

PS - I've just changed my Start page back to the 'classic' one - the Own Your Day is not helpful for me - too many ticks in too many places - I'm better off with my Bullet Journal. I also like to post my exercise on the Community Feed where it inspires others and gives me some encouragement as well.

Good Morning emoticon

Last night at supper I noticed when I was full. How full? Well, who knows! But not stuffed for sure. I looked at my plate (Taco Salad) and thought about our assignment. I still had about 1/3 left to eat and I did. I just couldn't bring myself to toss all of that healthy, good food out.

Phyllis - Yes. I could get to the Plan My Day through the Spark Points also, but I just couldn't do anything with it. When it is your default Start Page you can click off each of the tasks as you complete them.

Hey, Janet, I found this tid-bit of info and thought of you - This is from an article in the magazine Forks Over Knives: The Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics recommends an average PROTIEN intake of 42 grams per day. They did a large study on nutrient intake and found that people get 80 grams more than what they need daily!

OK. Off to do today's lesson. Spark On everyone emoticon

It's all a bit muddly, isn't it?! We don't get those automatic emails in the UK - something to do with GDPR. Can't say I miss them really.

I'll try to get to the Plan My Day too. Haven't done it. I'm such a creature of habit!

Focusing on one day at a time and the food challenges that each day brings me.

I don't remember that quick link on our Start Page, Gill, but I do get a weekly email that takes me to the teams I have chosen to stay updated on.

I tried getting to the Plan My Day screen via Spark Points but it would not let me document/post anything so I switched my Start Page over to give it another try. Change can be hard. So who else here is using the new Start Page beside me, Gil, and Moonshine?

You remember right - it DID screw my Spark account up when I tried it - but seems like they've ironed out the glitches now and I can toggle between 'old' and 'new' without losing my identity!

I agree with you about missing the other Start Page features........ I wish they could find a way to combine them too! One thing I really miss is the old 'what's new in my teams' which was a great quick-link.

I forgot the "new" Start page was called Plan Your Day. I tried it out when it was first presented by Spark Guy. And, my check list is still there! Gill, I thought you had tried out back then also, but found that it screwed up your Spark name and that is how you came about your current name?

I like the concept of checking off tasks and it fits well with the Bullet Journal concept, but I missed the easy access to all of the other Start Page features. Wish they could combine the two.

OK - off to our lesson page!

Gill, I agree with your note that there are so many great things like the day planner, the wellness check, etc but it is not easy to click in and out of it all so I tend to forget itís there when Iím busy.
It also means we donít connect with each other so much on a daily basis if we donít share our thoughts.

Whatever you do, wherever you are, I wish you all a good day!

You're welcome, Gill--what I like best is adding the day's assignment the night before, then when I sign on in the morning, it's right there on my StartPage as a reminder.

OK, I've switched my Start Page over to the new set-up and have Own My Day on the Start Page - I'll give it a go - it looks like it could be very helpful. It might just be the nudge I need to be a bit more Sparky in different ways. Thank you for leading me to this, Em (MOOMSHINE).

I put 'OWN YOUR DAY' into the search box and found it - it's a Spark Coach feature on the 'new start page' - I still use the old 'start page' I think. Apparently you have to go to your account/ email preferences and change to the new Start page.

Here's an interesting one - I got to it from MY TRACKERS/My Spark Points then choosing Plan Your Day

Eating mindfully, today. I, too, do a back-and-forth thing--trying to build on what went before...I like this team, especially being able to post here.

Sunday and going to be the last week of August. Whew!

I like having the weekends off, but the beauty of this team is - learn as you go and go at your own pace. There have been lessons that I 'dwell' on for a couple of days. They're just harder lessons that I really need to work on. So I don't move ahead until I'm ready. Love this team for that reason, as well as the tremendous support.

O.K. Phyllis. I found it. Thanks!

I don't know what the Own Your Day page is either. Sounds interesting! Tell us about it please.

I'm still on the road. Yesterday we rode from the west side of Michigan over to the east side. Today we will head back home to the west again. Won't talk about my eating behaviors, but they definitely have shown me that I need you gals!

Can't wait till Monday!

Yesterday was not great, not terrible. In helping to clean up the reception food after the funeral, along with everyone else, I nibbled as I cleaned. Yep, cookies, my biggest temptation was the most of it. But, I didn't eat dinner. In the past, I would have piled dinner on top of it, but I was not hungry and didn't eat.

Today looks less challenging. No social or eat out occasions today. It is a bit cooler, so I could easily go for a long walk this afternoon. Very happy about that.

I don't see the point in taking the weekends off, so I've been plunging on ahead; forging new habits and reinforcing old good ones.
I've been putting the daily assignments on my Own Your Day page; I find the extra points add extra incentive.

Have a wonderful weekend. Mine is beginning nicely and I plan for it to continue! emoticon

Sue, I copied this from my page, hope it works for you.
(Change weight button on start page, then on it is track all measurements)

*This is where you record your measurements in Spark, scroll down to Wellness Measurement section (under Weight Measurement). Please note after you record your Wellness Measures, you must go to the bottom of the page and click on the Save Measurements button.

Janet, great update. Thanks for your input. I need to get more consistent in walking for sure.

Good Morning everyone! A quick note before we head out on our adventure.

Glad to hear you didn't catch that bug, Gill.

Keep us posted, Phyllis, on the next 5%. Where did you say that Wellness Measurement thing was?

Congrats, Janet, on staying focused & consistent. I like how you are setting up small goals for yourself.

Well, last night I played Humpty Dumpty and took a great fall! It's o.k. I accept it and feel no guilt actually. That might be a step in the right direction for my brain. I feel that this weight loss journey forces us to always keep the reigns tight on our self-control (if we want to lose weight). It is like squeezing into a Spanks! Or a very tight pair of pants. Sometimes you feel so confined you think you might go crazy if you don't get out of them. Like an itch you cant quite reach. So you peel them off or you find someone to scratch you back and sigh with relief at the freedom of it. Does this make any sense to anyone?

Last night I did not follow my plans/intentions for my eating behavior. I indulged in several things that I have not allowed myself in days, weeks, or months. Today I am back at it and even though we are going away for the weekend I plan to remain mindful and reasonable with my eating and drinking.

Oh, have not posted this week here. Last weekend I was successful in limiting my dinner to the 2 pieces of incredibly great pizza. If you get a salad there, it's $10 and huge, so I don't do that there. Overall, a good week, except for Thursday night, eating too many h'orderves at a social gathering. I had cut dinner back, but still.

I am sort of adding one healthy change in my life at a time as I can. I've added fish oil and red yeast rice to my diet as recommended by my doctor. Got focused on walking 20 minutes a day consistently. Then making sure I drink 8 glasses of water a day. Now starting to focus on getting 2 fruits and 3 veggies in.

Today is incredibly busy. Class at church this morning until 12:30. Funeral at church at 1:30; then I volunteered to help clean up. Husband is out of town, but meeting him for dinner before a movie as he re-enteres, if all plans go well.

Is anyone else doing the DOT calendar? I started this month, and from a post on this team, I divided each day with an X to make 4 quadrants. Each day I record my weight, calories eaten, exercise done, and either a green, yellow, or red star. I'm noting that the walking daily makes a difference in my weight fluctuation.
