I want to take a moment to say "Thank you to Kindred Spirit".
She pulled me back in again when I was going down my all to familiar worn path..... letting my job and work take priority over me and my health.

I work for an attorney who is 80 years old and relies on me way to much. I have worked for him since 2004, he does take advantage of me, and I have let that happen. I am trying to pull out of that mode, but it isn't easy.

It is important that we all look out for one another and I appreciate Barbara "Kindred Spirit" pulling me out of my work-a-holic mind set.

I found myself "reading ahead" yesterday, cannot seem to get enough of Linda Spangle LOL!.

I like the way some of you are posting what day you completed in the team wall. It helps to motivate each other. I went ahead and copy/pasted my days 2-5 in your individual threads from my "magic notebook". I've been doing mine in OneNote on my laptop since I started.

On day # 18 here.

Tomorrow morning I have an early morning doctor appointment and went ahead and copy/pasted day 5 so that you won't have to hunt for the thread .

Have a great day everyone!

emoticon emoticon Beth! I will be sending you and honor roll goodie for completing your third decade emoticon

Day #16 today, another two bite eating challenge, with a different view point.

I will post the results later.

Today is weigh in day, down 1.5 pounds bringing my total loss to 73.5 although SP rounded it to 74. They do odd things with fractions sometimes.

In my blog today I wrote about the daily scale fluctuations and my observations on those after completing Linda's Friends with the Scale book.

I hope everyone had a safe and enjoyable 4th. We have a few folks starting day #1 today so please be sure to stop by the 100 Days threads and give them some positive feedback.

I just finished day #30 "Postpone Eating" from the section on Conscious Eating (days 21-30). It's hard for me to believe I have come this far in Spangle's book. It has not been easy. And I know I will need to go back and re-read some of the pages as I have done better in practice on some days than other days. I will need some of Spangle's techniques reinforced in order to break a lifetime of bad eating habits. I am making progress, though it is slow sometimes.

Happy Independence Day!

It was a relatively sleepless night in our household as DH was up and down most of the night, not feeling well which means the caregiver (me) also had very little sleep.

We had a bit of a scare with his blood pressure dropping pretty low around 3 AM, a sign of dehydration for him. By 6:30 AM it was back to where it should be and he was able to doze off in his lift chair.

Lots of coffee for me today!

I am on day #15 and have posted in the Day 11-20 section for that day. It says to take two bites of my favorite food today, so I need to head to the store later and pick up a slice of cheesecake emoticon

Thank you Mary! It's nice to meet you.

Team I went ahead and posted the first "decade" of lessons in the 100 Days forum for those who are starting day #1 on Saturday. I will work on getting the next couple of decades up soon.

It's great to see friends encouraging each other on their journey.

As you complete each "decade" post it on the team wall and I will send you a Spark Goodie to celebrate!

Hello, all! Linda's book has been quite helpful in feeling like I'm making real progress on my real issues. I need to get back here on Spark and the EE/100DWL teams. Today's blog details my current state. I am "in" and look forward to moving forward with y'all!

Good morning! Day #14 dawns peacefully in our household, DH asleep in his chair, kitties asleep in various spots and a bird chirping outside while I sip my morning cup of coffee.

Today was about how morning affects afternoon and evening. I will have a "not" my usual breakfast today as I ran out of peanut butter until I get to the grocery store.

I will chunk an apple into my oatmeal today instead.

I think day # 14 is another of those good for someone who is new or struggling.

Have a lovely day all...DH just woke up!

I like the idea of breaking the days into "natural chunks" the way Spangle did in the book! That's a great idea.

We have five survey responses thus far. I will wait until July 10th to summarize the answers but just want to throw out one of the suggestions.

One responder thinks it might be good to break the days into natural chunks, the way Linda does in her book.

One thread for the first ten days, another for the next ten, etc. so that new members to the group don't have to wait months to join in.

Feel free to share your thoughts on that one.

I cannot create a new forum, nor can I delete a forum or a thread. If we decide to work through the days again, I "think" I can retitle the forums and start using the old reports one for our new journey through the days as it does not appear to have been active in over a year.

Team membership survey has been Spark Mailed. I am not sure if SP sends it to ALL members, or just to members active in the last 30 days.

Please complete by July 10th. It should take about 3 minutes.

Here is a link if you would like to do it before your Spark Mail arrives emoticon

Please copy and paste this link into a browser window. The link is not working although it appears to be fine. I apologize for technical difficulties.

I may have to just spark mail a poll to all the members with an rsvp date.

I think we have a lot of members lurking and/or waiting until the book arrives to participate, and of course there are a few that are no longer active on spark people at all.

If we do decide to start them back up again as a daily activity, one of the poll questions will be which day # to start with. Hopefully we can reach a consensus.

Beth I hope the full time aspect of your job, albeit temporary, doesn't add too much stress and that in fact Linda's lessons help you to avoid eating situations that you may have had in previous full time stints.

The next 3 weeks are stressful for me due to my own and my DH's doctor appointments and health issues, and right at the 3 week mark of that will begin a time of high activity on the non-profit I do volunteer case manager work for. There will be televised public service announcements for two weeks about the program to give free school supplies and backpacks to low income students in our area. We anticipate 7500 applications during that time.

There are 5 volunteer case managers who process those applications remotely. They have to be completed within 48 hours of being received.

Luckily I type 120 wpm. Still, on a good day, I am able to process 5 or 6 per hour. I have a LOT of hours ahead of me!

After that, it slows to almost no activity.

I will do my best to stay active and have committed to posting my own daily activity.

Today is day #13, which is "Oops I forgot to eat". That has only happened to me twice in my life LOL!

I have a pretty set schedule, with some flex around DH's needs. 6 AM wake up, coffee with sublingual vitamin B complex/B 12 added.

8 or 8:30 AM breakfast of PB oatmeal with skim milk

then the main meal of the day varies between noon and 1:30 PM

then the lighter meal of the day is between 5 and 6 PM depending on what time the main meal was

I will occasionally have a snack of a cup of skim milk with some fruit around 7 PM, depending on my natural hunger levels.

I am more apt to forget taking my daily medications than I am to forget a meal. I think this was more of a problem when I was working. Now that I am retired, it automatically is part of my breakfast routine. We do have the daily Sun-Sat pill dispensers.

I also carry one dose of my daily meds in a little pill box in my purse so that if we do have a day full of activities and I've forgotten them, they are available to me.

emoticon For now, I will keep moving forward with my current readings until our group reaches a consensus of how we want to approach using the book as a group.

For the past 2 years I have been working only one day per week and my boss has asked me to work more. So this week I will be working 2 or 3 days to help the staff where I work transition to a new electronic medical record. There is a definite learning curve associated with this HUGE change.

In addition, it looks like I may be coming out of semi-retirement. The end of this month there is a full-time person leaving the position I used to have; and my talents, knowledge, and expertise are requested to help cover that assignment until someone qualified comes along. I know that returning to full-time or near-full-time work will greatly impact my life so I will need to be very mindful of my responsibilities related to work. I actually love my field of work, and while I don't mind helping out full-time for a while, I need to be very careful that I take care of myself. This will be a challenge for me because in the past I have not been very good at taking care of my own needs. emoticon I need to remember the instructions flight attendants give to passengers traveling with small children in the event of loss of cabin pressure and the oxygen masks fall out of the overhead bins. The attendants tell the adults to put on their own oxygen first (take care of your own oxygen needs) and then help the children. The adult passengers won't be any good to their children if they pass out due to lack of oxygen.

SparkCheers, Everyone!

Got up and completed 60 minutes on the treadmill. I took me three months to build up to 45 minutes five times a week. After our three week trip of 3-5 mile hikes I decided to up my treadmill time. Boy is 60 minutes a loooooooong time.

I was part of the group that did Linda Spangle's book a day at a time as a group. It was comforting to all be on the same page ... so to speak. The leader at that time posted the daily activity and them we all responded with our comments. I vote that we do what works best for the team.

Thanks Beth. We still have quite a few new members who have not received their book yet.

Day #12 for me and I will post in the thread for that day in the 100 Days section here.

After thunderstorms around 2 AM everything looks fresh and green this morning. Both cats and DH are asleep, enjoying my morning coffee and Spark time in peaceful silence.

I will be going for a walk outdoors this morning while the healthcare worker is here.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Although I don't know where the previous team was in the book, I think I may be the one among currently active members who is the farthest along in the book(?).

If everyone on the team wants to go through the book together, I am okay with going back to whatever day we need to start together on, even if it is day #1. It would not hurt me to repeat some of those previously read pages. I understand that the more times a person repeats doing something, the better she will retain and apply the information.

I, too, have all 3 of Linda's books. I have not yet read "Life Is Hard, Food Is Easy" or "Friends with the Scale," but I will as soon as I can. Unfortunately, I'm not one of those people who can read more than one book at a time. So these two will have to wait a bit.

I think the 4th of July is one of the easier days to plan for as most of us BBQ and we can choose to grill something healthy, like a chicken breast, a turkey frank, or a grilled turkey or boca burger, with fresh watermelon, side salad, even fresh corn on the cob if it is in season where you live...all very healthy. We could of course, just as easily throw in homemade fat laden foods like potato salad and baked beans with lots of brown sugar and bacon and on those, what Linda recommends is, eat two bites. Just put a tablespoon of them on your plate, slowly eat and savor them.

I also love to make sugar free jello jigglers with the little flag molds for this holiday :)

On day #11 here, will post in the thread for that day in just a moment.

Last night and this morning my husband's dementia was in full swing and very stressful for me. I was able to avoid binge eating and focus on what's most important, a huge NSV for me. I made a few motivational posters for caregivers and put them in my blog to take my mind off of food. It worked!

emoticon Cat on your terrific results! I have all three of Linda's books. I got Life is Hard Food is Easy years ago and I also have read her new Friends with the Scale book.

I need a concensus from the team. We have a lot of people on various days. In the past, the team, as a whole worked their way through the book together twice. Do we want to pick up where the team had left off and do this again? If so, do I have a volunteer thread starter to take on this task?

What I have been doing is finding the previous thread for the day I am on, and posting my response there, but I can go with whatever works best for the majority.

I know we have a lot of folks in the beginning of the book, and at least 5 who are awaiting their book to arrive. I am on day 11 and Beth is in the mid 20's right now.

Your thoughts would be welcome and appreciated.

Hi everyone.
Happy Monday!

I see we have a few new members who are waiting for their books to arrive.
When your books arrive let me know and I will start with you on the day you start.
I have the book, started it, then stopped only because
my work schedule got to hectic. While I was working on
the exercises I did see an improvement in the way I addressed
my eating issues, so I am convinced it works..if you work it.

The 4th of July is right around the corner.....
let's take steps now to make meal plans meals so
we can make healthy choices.

MyTurnNow - You are doing awesome. Compliments from our hubbies are truly the best ... yet compliments can be unspoken as well. Know that he cares deeply for you.

We just returned from a three week camping trip to the Grand Canyon and surrounding area. I lost 10 1/2 pounds in that three weeks due to the constant activity. Those that believe you can lose weight by "diet" only ... I would humbly disagree with.

Linda's book is great. Check out her book Life is Hard Food is Easy!!!

My biggest challenge, is actually not in losing the weight. I've done it a few times before, my challenge is in losing the habits that caused me to regain all the weight, and more.

This is where Linda's book is helping me the most.

I don't know if I will recycle through after I finish the 100 days the first time, but I know it is making a huge difference for me.

Day #10 here, a bit difficult because I don't want to ask my DH to make a compliment, it confuses him enough to ask him to do basic things some days.

I will look at Day 10 as a reflection on compliments I've already received from others.

I don't have a lot of weight to lose, but want to lose the control food has over my life! I recently found my way back to a book by David Kessler 'The end of overeating' which I find really helpful. I also have another book called 'Raw Emotions' which is by Angela Stokes - although it's about transition to a raw food diet, it addresses the emotional healing that needs to take place. I have also nearly completed a 100-day project of my own to do '1 Good Thing' each day towards my health and wellbeing. So, when I saw this team on one of my Spark Friend's pages, I knew it was for me :D I've checked out the free downloads and also put the book on my Amazon wishlist - there's a cheap second-hand copy I can buy when I get paid.

I'm glad I found this team - thank you to the leaders - and look forward to going on this journey with you all.

Susan, I am so pleased that you are finding ideas and techniques in Spangle's book to help you. I am very impressed with her knowledge about food and emotions and eating! I certainly have been far less than perfect on my eating program.

Day #24 will take you beyond savoring to satiety. Until Spangle's book,I could not figure out how to get there before. Now I am finding my way!

Beth I am following in your footsteps! Mine is a quarter jar though :D

I truly believe Linda's book with it's 100 days of activities is the missing link I have needed to keep going once I reach goal. I've lost HUGE amounts of weight twice before, 92 pounds and then 167 pounds, and then got to a maintenance phase and totally blew it, gaining them all back and more.

This time, my total to lose is 178 pounds, 72 down now and 106 to go, and then lifetime to maintain. With the help of the book and this team, I am gaining confidence that I will indeed do it.

Day #9 of the book for me, which is a checklist of what types of support I need someone else to provide. For the most part I'm on my own in this journey. I can't expect a lot of support from my spouse, not because he doesn't care, because he has permanent brain damage and dementia. He has noticed my loss, and will applaud my results. That is the most support I can expect.

I'm fine with that.I needed to look at Day #9 as more of an exercise of what do I need from myself to support myself. Then it works great for me.

I can say, without a doubt, that I will continue buying books by Linda Spangle. She "gets me" and gets into my head in a good way.

Onward & Downward!

Hi! I am on day #23 and love this book. It is like Spangle knows exactly how my head works! My reading today is on savoring food. I am learning to enjoy food in smaller amounts. This is a good thing for me.

This has been a good day for me so far, but as the day increases in length, so does the force of my challenges. However, with the techniques and new skills I have found in 100 Days of Weight Loss, I am learning how to better meet these challenges. emoticon

Earlier this week I learned about Spangle's dollar jar. So far, I have 6 dollars in it! If you don't know about the dollar jar, check out Spangle's Weight Loss Joy website at the following link:

Day # 7

Make a list of Do's and Don'ts for others to support your weight loss/healthy journey.

For my husband:

Please continue to be supportive of my efforts to regain a healthier body as I lose weight.

It is very helpful to me when you notice I am getting smaller. It is greatly appreciated when you do not make comments about how fast I eat, or what I am eating at the time.

For others:

Yes, I have lost quite a bit of weight, and I have a long way to go. I prefer not to discuss the specific # as that puts too much pressure on my and could actually backfire into gaining again.

For my SparkFriends:

I am always encouraged by your blog posts. Reading about your success, helping with your struggles helps me prepare for them in my own journey.

################################

I feel like a giant mosquito bite this morning after spending and hour and a half in the back yard with the long pole trimmer late yesterday afternoon to remove hardwood walnut branches that were hanging over the fence and banging on my roof. It was a great strength workout to pull the cord and get them down, and core workout with all the bending and cutting them up/bundling for the recycle pick up this morning.

I don't know how many bites I have, thank goodness for my anti-itch spray!

Losing weight has made it possible for me to do more things around the house with less struggle. Last November I wouldn't THINK to take on a project like that, it would have worn me out.

How is YOUR day going? Please share with us!

I do my private blogging in One Not on my computer. For the PDF journal, I can copy/paste the activity for the individual day right into that day's blog there, which is also where I keep my to get done list, my food diary, and any photos I had taken that day. I have some quotes and affirmations on each page to help keep me centered.

Thanks for posting this info..."You will also want to go to Linda's site (just click the picture of her book on our team page) and access the free support materials, which includes a PDF 100 Days Journal, very helpful."

I didn't know that. I am going to download it.

My page is set to private, only because i write a lot about a lot of "Stuff" and I don't feel comfortable knowing anyone (like...ex-husband and his friends) can go searching in cyber space and read what I write. I am re-married now (I was re-married in 2009) to a wonderful man. My first marriage lasted for 10 years to a fireman/paramedic. It was a very abusive marriage so I feel safer with a private page. I am not on facebook or twitter... just here and that is perfect for me....so the point in telling everyone that is if you want to Sparkfriend me, just send me a message and I will add you as a Spark friend.

Happy Thursday!

Day #7 for me. If my morning weights hold steady for the next couple days, I will see a delightful "official" weigh in on Saturday morning :D The scale has inched downward three consecutive days now.

Today is all about believing in yourself.

I CAN do it because.....

I am strong

I am organized

I've got the wisdom and the knowledge to do this the right way

I have let go of perfectionism and embraced persistence

Onward & Downward!

Hi Kitty,

When I assumed the role of leader last week, the team had been a little inactive for a couple of weeks prior. Since so many of us are all on different days, I started posting my days here as sort of an ongoing chat thread with anyone who wants to join in.

There is also a forum for this team that lists each individual day, so if you prefer to use that one , when you post on the thread for your day # it will automatically move that one to the top of the list for others to see.

You will also want to go to Linda's site (just click the picture of her book on our team page) and access the free support materials, which includes a PDF 100 Days Journal, very helpful.

Since you are starting fresh, you may also want to post on the "Reasons to lose" thread.

Hi!

I was wondering how this works. Do we just jump in and start with day #1 or wherever we are? I have the book and started to read it a few years ago, but never finished it. No time like the present to dig in and finish it! Thanks for any guidance.

Kitty

Day # 6

Situations where I might overeat and how I can cope:

When I am angry/hurt/overly stressed -- Apply the HALT question to draw awareness, if I am truly hungry then go for something healthy

When DH is asleep and I am bored--Hop online and connect with friends

Holidays/Special Occasions--Plan ahead, that's what flex is for

One thing I can do today:

Stay positive and on plan.

I hoe everyone has a healthy productive Hump Day!

Day #5

Today was creating a "magic notebook" which is kind of funny because I actually did something similar to that about a month ago when I started journaling/tracking in my OneNote software.

Foods that are occasional favorites/plans on when I might eat them:

Macaroni & Cheese--but only if it's baked not boxed. I have a killer recipe for a four serving mac & cheese made with soy cheese that is tasty, healthy and low in points at 4 per serving. This is something I can have when I want Mac & Cheese, which is usually more in the colder weather months.

Pizza-- right now my husband is on an "I am tired of pizza kick" and has been for about a month. When he decides he wants it again, I have no issues with pizza. I have two slices, we order it very light on the cheese with lots of veggie toppings and I add salad to round out my meal.

Gnocchi--my favorite pasta. Also one of those usually more in the cool weather months. This is one I can make at home and freeze portions as I am the only one in the house to eat it. Gnocchi is also 4 points per cup, and add a point for marinara sauce.

I am a firm believer I should not give up ANY of my favorite foods as I am not willing to give them up for life. I am capable of having them on occasion, when I have points available and that is part of what makes this journey more palpable.

Grocery shopping done this morning found blueberries and raspberries both on sale 5 for $5 and had a lovely fruit dish with yogurt topping for breakfast, along with getting in 45 minutes of walking around the big box store pushing the shopping cart. They have rearranged some things and I walked past something I needed three times before I found it....I call that Meijer's exercise plan LOL!

The healthcare worker is here this morning, so I am headed outside to do some yard work before the rain comes.

Have a Sparktastic Day!

Onward & Downward emoticon day at a time !

Penny the very first action step is coming up with a list of ten reasons you want to lose weight. We have a thread for that if you'd like to get a jump start on the book's arrival :) These are also great if added to your goal board on your start page as sort of a virtual vision collage.

I got the book on my Kindle.
I have had it on there for many months, but
never started it. Now it's time.

Starting Day 1 today.
"I used to be that way...."
Going to write about my reasons on the Getting Started thread now.

No matter where you are, keep going don't stop.

Happy to hear about the team. Glad you volunteered to lead it. I just ordered the book, so I am waiting for it to arrive. You are so right, our bodies know whether we record the food or not. Good reminder!

Day # 4 for me!

I was pleasantly surprised to see the scale was down 2.5 pounds at my morning weigh in from the day before. This is not my official weigh in day, and I won't be updating my weight tracker until Saturday. It was just a nice surprise :D

On the 2003 WW Flex Plan I am currently getting 30 points a day plus 35 weekly flex points.

My narrow path might be a week where I use zero of my weekly flex and definitely do not use any activity points.

My wider path would be going into "maintenance phase" where I add back four points per day, and also have my 35 flex available.

Narrow Road
Standard breakfast PB Oatmeal w/skim= 8 points

Lunch/Dinner out: Veggie Omelette with eggbeaters, tomato slices, rye toast (2) w/ butter = 8 points
Or Village Salad with pita, no dressing = 6 points

Add grilled chicken = 4 additional points

Third meal of day (Lunch or Dinner): Fat free cottage cheese with veggies =3 points

Wider Road

To the above, allow a piece of cake for our Anniversary or a Birthday = 12 points

Dinner Out for special occasion might be a small steak = 12 points with Baked Potato, plain =5 points and veggies/salad no dressing

In other words, not completely off the path, just a little broader guidelines.

On rare occasions breakfast out might be "real" scrambled eggs - 5 points with ham - 4 points and rye toast - 5 points

It is important to have some variety, or it will get boring. It is also important to use some or all of my points each day so that my body doesn't think it is going into a starvation mode and start holding onto fat that it should be letting go. Also, it is important to realize if I eat something, whether I record it or not, my body still knows I had it.

How is your day going?

I am working hard to focus on one day at a time and having a series of good days string together.

On to day #4 !
