Hi all :) I'm new here. I went to the first two intro zumba classes in my area as they were just starting to offer it. Then the brand new zumba instructor broke her toe and we don't know when the classes will be back as the original instructor traveled 2 hours for the intro classes to get us interested and cannot keep traveling when she has her own classes in her town 4 days a week D: So, I just ordered the DVDs and bought some new shoes to work with for now. I figure that I can at least learn the moves and get started and then when we get our class back, I will be all set to go :)

I much prefer going to the classes. The dvds don't get my heart rate up at all. I love the music and the whole atmosphere in the live class.

I love the Wii game! It makes you move your hips more, cause you want the Wii to register it. And we all know, the more you move your hips, the more calories you are going to burn!

I don't have the videos or the video game versions. I do the class once a week and I love it. I am thinking of buying the videos though to do at home during the week... Or the new xbox game one that I can use with my Kinect...

Hi all
I have not done ZUMBA, just had heard alot about it.
So yes I ordered the DVD's. Was $64 through amazon and free shipping.
I also have been looking at classes in my area. I might start with the DVD's, and then take the next round of classes that begin in March!
Thanks everyone for the information and input, was greatly appreciated! emoticon

I love the classes. I have back problems, and I told the teacher about it. Every class she shows me another modification, so it is easier for me. I get a great workout!! There are women younger and more fit than I am, and women heavier and more out of shape than me, but we all have such a good time! I am probably the oldest in the class. We just all really enjoy it, sweat a lot, and enjoy the dancing. I don't know if I would sweat as much at home, I might take too many breaks!

I have been taking classes but my work schedule changes from time to time and I cannot make the class. I just order the DVD set and I look forward to being able to Zumba whenever I want to. I also travel for my job and this will give my the opportunity to take the DVD's with me and use them on my laptop.

The classes are way more fun and my instructor is more intense than any of the DVD's. She wants you to have fun and just move, do your own thing, if you can't do the more complex moves. emoticon

You get different routines, the experience of being with other people that love the same thing you do, and there is much more energy when doing it in a group full of excited and happy people.

Yesterday I did the 20 Minute Express, and then right after it, I did the Flat Abs for the first time. Like you, I focused on learning the moves. As I did the moves I tried to get the right form and crunch my abs rather than trying to keep up. I definitely feel it today! Keep doing it. As you get more comfortable with the moves and can anticipate what comes next, you'll be able to concentrate more on your form and you will really feel it.

Don't be self conscious. I started this summer at a class at the library. A friend,a really thin friend who goes to the gym and goes to yoga asked me. I have mobility issues and gait dysfunction so I thought I'll appease her, register and leave. I spoke to the instructor before it started and she said just do what I could. Well,my friend was the one who had to leave! I have continued to go to classes. My doctors think it's great. And here's the thing. I can't do the full class and some nights I can barely walk to the car but I take a class with women, some of whom are heavier than me,some of whom are older than me and some surprisingly are more impaired. And no,it's not a "special" class. We all have FUN! I learned years ago that no one is as interested in you as yourself. Go to class and have some fun.

Never,ever give up

Has anyone tried the Flat Abs Zumba DVD? I tried it this morning and it was my first time doing it but I didn't really "feel" any work with my abs. I'm wondering if maybe I wasn't holding form right becuase I was trying to just learn the movements. Has anyone else has tried it and liked it? I'll definitely give it another try but today just didn't "feel" it.

I'm reading this book right now titled "Secrets of a Former Fat Girl," and one of the things that the author says is that it is better to work out outside of the home- going to the gym, to classes, etc- because of that temptation to sit down or to say that there are "SO many things" that you have to do. I fall victim to that OFTEN. LOL. But I have the DVD's at home, and amazingly there seems to be this urge to do Zumba that moves me to work out at home with them despite my urge to sit down. It's that addicting. But I am also going to class two days a week too.

You can find videos for different routines on youtube, but it isn't always the same as being in a group with a live instructor that pushes and motivates you, and being in the midst of all the laughing and smiling from everyone just as pumped as you are.

I bought the DVD's off of the Zumba site. They are pricey, but fun! I finally did the Cardio Party and it was tougher than I thought (have only been doing the 20 minute video), but very fun and upbeat.

I have yet to do any of the classes since I would like to become more familiar with moves and less self conscience, but I love the DVD's. The Zumba classes are the most expensive classes at the school gym so I will be sticking with the DVD's only for a while.

I like classes - Also, classes offer a better workout overall and are a great place to make new friends. Definitely recommend dvds for someone starting out so as to become comfortable with moves (but even then, you could pick up moves in class...and if you do something wrong, you just fix it as you go).

Zumba Parties are FUN too! I went to a Brazilian Nights Zumba last weekend and going to an Afterthanksgiving Zumba on Saturday (oh, and even an early morning T-Day class too). In January Im participating in 1/2 time Zumba Fitness (6- minute routine) at a Portland Trailblazer's game! Zumba is not only about getting fit and having fun...its about community!

Looks like the majority on this thread like the classes the best. I also prefer classes. It is great because of the interaction with the instructor and other classmates. I also love that she changes the songs and movements to keep it fresh, keeps us thinking and it keeps challenging our muscles. I do both Zumba and Zumba Toning. But our classes here don't go all year 'round, there is a break from mid-Nov. to mid-Jan., and a break over the summer. So I am so glad to have the dvds!

MARA-H - If you go to youtube and serarch for zumba samba steps, you will be amazed at how much stuff you can find. Some people even have the entire workouts on youtube. I hope this helps! emoticon

I love my zumba classes and would love a dvd so I can zumba at home, too! I find it hard to do the new routines without watching anyone as I never danced really. So when the instructor says it's samba step, I'm clueless and need to watch others. I find it hard to transfer step from instructor as she's working opposite of class.

Anyone have a suggestion for an inexpensive but good video?

Classes hands down! I bought the DVD after I started going to the classes so I could practice the moves. Yea right!!! hahaha funny! I think I put in the DVD player like twice! emoticon BUT I go to class 3-4 days a week! Going to the class is so motivating and I tend to push myself more than I do at home. The high energy and music really get's me going.

Definitely classes! You just can't get the same energy and sweat you get from going to class. You have more fun too because you have other girls to cheer you on. Understandably though, it can be difficult to find a class nearby or find one that's not packed so it's not a bad idea to have DVD's on hand.

i just recieved my zumba dvd's in the mail thursday with the zumba sticks/light weights...this set cost me seventy two bucks with tax but from what i can tell so far is well worth it...a little fast paced for some one as heavy as i am but i think if taken slow it'll be ok...i'm hoping any way...so far twenty minutes at a time is about all i can stand before i'm winded...hugs...christen

I just got my DVDs in the mail today and I'm so excited to try them. I've been wanting to become an instructor for quite some time and just found out that they are offering a class for instructors that is only 20 minutes away from me, but the class is already sold out, so I was quite disappointed.

But I prefer personally to work out with the DVDs until I can get comfortable with the routine. Sometimes I love the class type setting, but I've never really found an instructor for any gym class that I've really liked her style. Maybe that will change when I can finally become certified to teach!

I do not have the Zumba DVD's but a member on another of my teams who lives outside of the USA was wanting to know how much the DVD's cost in the USA. Does anyone know so that I can pass along this information to her? Thank you.

You can go to zumba.com and search for classes. It will list by what type of class your looking for and your location.

I have a friend who used to take Zumba classes with me but had to stop because of knee pain. I've heard that there are aqua zumba classes now which might be better for her. Does anyone know where I can find more info?

I would LOVE to take the classes but can't because the closest class is 30 minutes away and at 6:00 and I don't get off work til atleast 6 if not after. :(
But I do have the DVD's and like them I just prefer a class structure. Like others have said I don't push myself hard enough when no one is there but me. I also don't do them often enough. I need help with staying motivated with DVD's because right now a gym membership is out of the question anyway because of my busy life so I have to work out at home or I don't get to. Any suggestions on staying motivated with DVD's??

I started in classes and have been going for almost 4 months now. I have lost 50 lbs, but they cut out a few classes, so I ordered the dvds so I can work out 7 days per week. I need a 12 step program for my addiction to zumba. I didnt care for the music too much on the main zumba website. I like the more hip hop sounds, but I will do what I can anyway.
