Hi,
New to the team. I'm 54yrs and have dipped in and out for spark for the last couple of year. I start with great intentions and then slowly give up.I really would like to lose a one stone, just 14lbs. Doesn't sound a lot when I say it out loud but just can't seem to get there. This time I am going to stick with it wish me luck.

clearly upset....900 of my calories today came from snacks...so upset about my job. I've only been there for 5 weeks and it is such a terrible fit. Guess the grass isn't always greener on the other side. This job was supposed to be better for me, well it's not. I want to quit so bad but I can't find anything else quick enough. emoticon Don't know what to do

Instead of stopping by the drive-through, how abut making some smoothie pops. I like to make a big batch of smoothie with lots of unsweetened frozen fruits (mostly berries) with a little Almond Milk to make it creamy like ice cream. I add a scoop of vanilla protein powder sometimes. Add a little stevia if not sweet enough. Pour into Popsicle molds and freeze until hard in the freezer. Tell the kiddos you have a surprise for them when you get home. No quilt eating one of these and they are better for the kids then the ice cream.

Hang in there. You are figuring it out. One thing at a time.

Yeah that's like me. My body doesn't want sweets but my mind does. Lately I've been listening to my body and dealing with my mind. I have to give myself pep talks from time to time. I also have flash backs of how I acted when I eat sweets. It was not a good look ( a 40 year old throwing a temper tantrum over candy). So far it's been 37 days of no sweets this year.

WOW!!! That is amazing and really explains so much. Especially now that I have started to really pay attention to how different foods make me feel. This is a concept new to me. I am real good at counting the cals carbs, whatever. But never paid attention to how good or bad I felt after eating certain things. When I focus and stop to think about it 30 minutes or an hour after a snack or meal, I get a new perspective on what my body wants and doesn't want. My body sure does not like sweets but my brain loves them. Weird how it all works.

I totally agree and I was listening to John Tesh awhile back and he said that test were done on people eating sugar and the same pleasure sections of hte brain lit up as one compared to people on drugs.

Food for thought..

I really enjoyed your post. Especially the remark about control. What popped into my head was, 'If I don't control sugar, sugar will control me'. This is certainly true for me. I have noticed when sweets are around and I get just a little tempted, if I give in to have just one, I start craving more right away and no matter how much more I have, the more I want. It is crazy what that one bite can do. It is what I imagine a drug addiction would be like.

Thanks for the post.

Went grocery shopping this morning and I really loaded up on veggies for my lunches. I didn't get fresh since I only grocery shop twice a month but I got quite a few frozen and canned veggies. It's a start. Mainly got things like mustard greens, turnip greens, yams, carrots, cabbage. I know canned veggies aren't the best, but it's better than no veggies at all. I have to work within a tight budget and the veggies are just for me since hubby doesn't like them. Luckily I could get what I needed on sale so there was no big issues over it.
And I got in almost 3 hours walking while doing all the shopping.

We have had an eyeopener on some of the effects that food dyes are having on our grandson. Since food dyes are common in junk food - we decided that it is in his best interest to greatly limit his junk food. However, my daughter comes across this deal on M&M's and calls me to see if I want to buy a case because the cost would only be .25 cents a bag.

When are we going to wake up and realize that the "cheap food" prices are not a good deal if it will cause havoc to our health. And to top it off, she does not even like M&M's. arrrghh!!!!

I had a little NSV in the form of it being my 15th day of freedom from sugar, so I'm two weeks into it and hanging tough. This round of kicking sugar to the curb has been harder on me than previous ones, but it is infinitely worth doing. I don't think I'll have very good luck on the scale on my weekly weigh-in but with sugar no longer my constant companion I'll do better from here on out. However, this is NOT about the scale. I do not function well with a lot of sugar in my system and if I eat the stuff at all (except for incidental sugars naturally found in healthy food), it controls me. I do not really feel food is addictive but sugar certainly comes close to it for me. Woot!

I've been doing very well with mindful eating at work. I work at a gourmet natural foods shop and we all know that even if it's gourmet or natural it's not necessarily all that good for you. Temptation is at at every turn but I'm holding strong!

Just had a great breakfast of blueberry pancakes with real maple syrup. I simply don't have the same drop in energy from maple syrup as I get from cane sugar. As a matter of fact I have no drop in energy from maple syrup, but if I have cane sugar, I have to take a nap and am miserable. Anybody else experience this?

I know it's all "sugar" but I process it differently. To me it's a continuum with white sugar on one end and a sweetener like dates on the opposite end.

"Choices, not sacrifices."

How is everyone doing? I have added crosstraining on my non-running days and I cannot believe how that is making a difference in what I choose to eat. I notice that if I manage to get my workout in the morning I have a tendency to eat better throughout the day.

Do you notice a difference in workout time and food choices?

I just met up with your team leader through her blog...Commit to Commitment. I'm the leader of Sugar & Food Addiction & the author of Sugar...the Hidden Eating Disorder & How to Lick It! I'm busy getting it ready for digital publishing. I actually wrote the book over ten years ago. It is based on my own program to get me off of sugar & poor nutrition. At the time I was quite ill with pre-diabetes that presented itself as hyperinsulinemia or reactive hypoglycemia.

I had always eaten poorly, but I hid it very well.....especially the secret binge behaviors I had developed over the years. So, when I saw your leader's blog subject about commitment, I had to jump in. I also decided to make this my blog subject for today.

I'm in the process of putting together some complimentary webinars based on my work in this field. The first invitations will go out to my group, but I'll also keep you posted about them. They will be recorded so you can listen at your leisure, BUT if you would like to be a participating presenter with me, please let me know. I've been thinking about the subject order & I have many members who have issues keeping their commitment. This is the yo-yo crowd, as well as those who just can't seem to get going & keep going.....maybe this should be the first program. Looking for suggestions.

So far I have had only a few pieces of dark chocolate on the weekends only and kettle popcorn (healthy kind) I have been taming my sweet tooth pretty good beyond that and eating completely clean during the week.

Although I haven't had any ice cream, cookies, cakes, chocolates or candies for 30 days, I'm still getting some heavy duty cravings. Yesterday I was so grateful that all I had in the house was slightly sweetened cereal. I ate some right out of the box. emoticon I hope it gets easier soon! emoticon

Hello everyone. I haven't had any sweets for a couple of weeks. Dh & I went out shopping Saturday and I didn't pack any healthy snacks to take with me. So I got caught out there being hungry. We went to a family owned restaurant to eat. The food was great but I ordered a sweet tea. Bad move. That tea gave me the shakes. It tasted soooooo sweet to me. So this week my goal is no more sugar drinks. Just emoticon for me!

Hi Joan! Thanks for the tip. Yes, I used to eat the same meal at Wendy's, but sadly, I no longer have one near me....ANYwhere (I live in Mexico now). Generally, all we have down here for the fast food chains are McDonalds (which I really don't care for) and Burger King. We don't eat there often, but unfortunately, when faced with the temptation, I buckled.

On a lighter note, I dug through old pictures today, looking for some motivation. I found one of when I was at my heaviest and one of when I was at my thinnest (in adulthood). Currently, I am in between the two, and thankfully, closer to the thinner one than the fatter one. I put the two pictures up on the mirror in my bedroom, and I also snapped a shot of each of them to have in my phone. The idea is that, when faced with a temptation, I will take time to look at both pictures and ask myself, "which direction do I want to go?". With luck, I will decide, at least a majority of the time, that the treat I have my eye on just isn't worth going back to that fat picture.

Right there with ya, Stefanie...was with my hubby over lunch time, and his idea was to have Burger King for lunch...and like a fool, I agreed. I basically ate all of my calories for the day in one meal. emoticon

Keep up the good attitude, though. All we can do is pick ourselves back up and keep on keeping on. Good luck! emoticon

Well, lunch time was a complete failure for me. I'm not really sure where the breakdown was, but I seriously overate. However, I'm not going to let it get me down. I going to finish out the day strong and begin tomorrow anew. Still a little disheartening though since I had been doing so well.

Good morning all. Finding that the longer I resist sweets, the easier it is. I gave them up for Lent and have stuck to it this time. Eating red delicious apples like it's my job tho!!! emoticon

Glad you are feeling better, Stefanie! It does feel good to get back to it, doesn't it? After I have gotten into an exercise routine, I feel bad when I don't exercise, and I don't mean emotionally! My body seems to MISS it! HA! (who'd a thunk it!) emoticon
