Love the soft retirement What a lovely way to ease into it and help the organization transition on their end as well

Feline - sending good job interview thoughts to your friend emoticon
Glad you are eating well and drinking your emoticon and sounds like the corset is working well for you.
emoticon I guess we know who emoticon runs your house!

Last full day of full time employment. I am so fortunate to be able to go to 3 days a week. I never thought they'd let me, although with reorganization we have the budget for a full time person, so I'm doing my bit for dollar reduction and retaining expertise.

My friend heard back, she has a third interview on Monday! This time with a city administrator, so it sounds like they're really liking her. I hope this is good news for her, so please send good thoughts her way emoticon

I have been so busy with my schoolwork this session that I've been slacking a little on my exercise. It's a subject I really struggle with, though, so I need the extra time. I'm still trying to eat healthy, though, and working hard on getting my water in. I'm sleeping a little better now that I've started wearing a corset while I sleep, actually, so that's nice.

This morning I was getting ready to shower and one my cats started yowling and making like I needed to follow him to this huge problem, so I got dressed and followed him out of the bathroom. The problem was he wanted me to get back in bed to cuddle him emoticon

Eva - how good to hear the area has healed and Dolly has helped those in need. Love your photo!
Kim - your weather sounds idyllic, but I have to emoticon when you say no humidity. You do know that's a relative term?

I'm not sure if I'd rather not have some emoticon if I could also have some emoticon
but it looks like some is on the way...

Just in time to celebrate my first day of not coming in on Monday! (Although I do have a couple meetings scheduled for the afternoon).

Wonderful. No wonder she is so well loved there

Fabulous week here. Sunny and warm with no humidity. It’s just beautiful. We are very dry and have wildfires all around, but nothing too alarming. Rain would be helpful.

Kali. How are you liking the meditation challenge? I am finding it very healing so far

Kali: I hope that snow holds off. I've had enough of winter. I'm sure you have too.

Kim: I didn't get many pictures last night, but here in the heart of Gatlinburg you can not tell a fire ever happened. In the forest there's a lot of new growth, but everything else has recovered beautifully. This is our first trip back since the fires.

I'll say this, when it came to supporting the area Dolly Parton put her money where he mouth is. She helped the families that lost homes in the fires recover financial.

Kim - I too loved to visit Gatlinburg when we lived in KY. Even took my folks there for a weekend. It seemed like the best mix of two worlds - wondrous nature and shopping!

emoticon temps and emoticon predicted for today, so I'm hoping to emoticon @ lunch and maybe get some topsoil down after work. Chance of snow has been greatly exaggerated (we hope), but we sure could use some clearing skies...

Oh Eva - your pictures brought back 35 year old memories of a school trip to Chattanooga. We also went to Ruby Falls. I just LOVE the reminder and am so glad you are having a good trip. One of my favorite vacation spots is Gatlinburg. Could you let me know how they fared after the fires a few years back. We have contemplated another trip and have wondered

Feline: prayers for a fast hire for your friend. It will all smooth out once she has designated times away from home.

We are leaving Chattanooga (not on a choo-choo) this morning and finishing our trip over in Gatlinburg. Today we will check out The Island and do some shopping. Tomorrow will be wet at times so our museum tours will happen then.

Rock City

Ruby Falls

Rock City had been my favorite adventure but the picture of Brenna standing at the edge at point park is my favorite photo.

Feline - you are such a great friend! I too hope something comes through soon for all of you...

Sun has been trying to break through here, so still cool and cloudy.
Keep your fingers crossed tomorrow will be sunny. (We are all cranky here...)

Peace: The cats have settled down for the most part. Two of them have taken a liking to her, two of them don't mind her, but the fifth one continues to hiss and growl. He hates that her room is always closed off and doesn't like that she takes up pacing space on the couch. He's also old and grumpy anyway, so it's not too hard to tick him off.

The humans are doing okay. She's supposed to hear back this week about the job she did two interviews for so we're all very hopeful. My husband is having a harder time handling the lack of privacy than I am and is becoming a bit irritable, so I hope she finds a job quickly, if nothing else so she has something else to do than job hunt and watch TV. I know she's also going a bit stir crazy and is homesick. I miss having quiet evenings to myself, but I'm thankful she and I get along. I know a few friends where they're wonderful people but this wouldn't be going as smoothly for sure!

Kim: I should say 3 of those lists have to do with my kiddo LOL. I have to make sure I have epi-pens and pack snacks and such. She does better with a checklist for clothes and hygiene items since I do make her pack her own bag. Since that's 2 bags, that means 2 lists. I lead by example so she doesn't complain. When she's older and has the hang of it, the lists will probably be eliminated.

Back 10 years ago, before Bug was born, your method wouldn't have caused me anxiety.

It's actually above 30 here this morning! I'll take cloudy and milder that sunny and deceptively cold! I'll be out of pocket until April 2nd when I return to my normal sparking. Have fun, have a Happy Easter, and a fun April Fools Day.

Eva - we so total opposites when it comes to packing for trips. I never think much about it until the morning of the trip (unless there are special activities that I need to prepare for.) I usually just count out the number of days and grab that many pairs of socks and undies. Then about that many shorts, tee shirts .... a few long sleeved shirts. One or two fancier outfits just in case. Then I pack up my self care stuff as I use it in the morning. Usually this method works just fine for me and I figure that I can grab anything I left at a local store wherever I am going. I suspect my method would give you anxiety LOL

Absolutely gorgeous day today here in Florida! It's cool with a brisk wind but it's sunny. I like it cold at night so I can put a blanket on the bed so this week is just about perfect!

Kali: enjoy the walk. And I hope you get some cleanup time between raindrops!

Kim: I'm certainly glad I'm not on the coast. I can't imagine being hit with 4 Nor'easters in a few weeks.

I'm in for rain this weekend, and I'm like you, I'm hoping it tamps down the pollen levels. For me, it's forsythia bushes. I do agree the blooms are lovely, but I can't wait until the blooms fall off.

Preparing for vacation. My mother will come check in on her grandcats and get the mail. I have my packing lists made. There are 5. I swear I prepare like I'm moving to China and never coming back. I think I'm beginning to understand why Jim pokes fun at me when we are getting ready for an extended trip. emoticon emoticon

Hello All

Once again I watch the national news and I am glad to not be experiencing the weather than others are. We had quite a thunderstorm blow through here last night as a cold front moved in But the cold front will only bring us down into the low 70's. So it is quite pleasant. It looks like we will be cool for the next week or so. Cool and sunny You cant hardly beat that!

Oak pollen has been horrendous for the last few weeks. My head is all clogged up but I am hopeful that the rain with the storm has washed some of it away.

Kali: I'm glad the car is fixed and you are back to your regular programming. I hope you are approved for that 3 days per week. It might be easier for you to ease into your retirement and I'm sure that the team will benefit greatly from your expertise.

My friend came and brought her kids. Lindsey is a special-needs adult child. I'm her "book buddy". She always enjoys the conversation. And her son, Hunter, is a senior this year. the juniors at his school were taking the ACT yesterday, so everyone else was dismissed. We discussed college choices and his excitement for starting a new chapter in his life. I'm closer to his campus than his mom, so in funky weather, I'll be his stop, so he's not driving into severe weather any more than he has to. I'm just glad I can be helpful.

I just adore how things just work out sometimes ..... most times!

I was down with the flu this weekend. Not a horrible case but enough to keep me hunkered down for most of the weekend. I am feeling pretty much back to normal this morning. Thankfully Monday's are pretty quiet for me so I can ease back into the work week.

Kim - great list! emoticon I guess there are multiple ways to 'attack' the stuff. Marie Kondo suggests we get 'all' our blouses (etc.) out @ one time, regardless of season. I have resisted as I know clothes that are off season end up in the rag pile as opposed to on the shelf in the Mission, so I give myself a year. If I don't wear it, it's donated. A lot of suits will be leaving the house next fall/winter...

Eva - glad you get a week of normal before the vacation. May be less to catch up on when you return. Love that you have provided for your pollinators and congrats on finishing up the yardwork.
emoticon kept ours '@ bay', but we needed the moisture!

Trip to Omaha was good. Phone battery was replaced and we found an office chair and mats for the credit union. We also came home with a new smart TV which was not on either of our lists.Sale @ Nebraska Furniture Mart + a universal 'magic' remote, that may allow us to get rid of the Allo Communication remotes (and difficulties with turning on the attached pieces of equipment...)
Looks like we're in for some continued emoticon so we''ll be gathering tax information tonight.
Gotta love how everything works for the best. emoticon would not start this morning, so I borrowed DH's to go for an early morning thyroid ultrasound. Returned home to find my keys (long story) and schedule a tow truck to go to my favorite mechanic shop. Got a ride to DH's office and told the driver about the new credit union. He suggested I bring pamphlets when I pick up the Mini - while there will be a cost, I never would have had the opportunity to spread the word. Looks like a win-win may be in the offing!

Kali: How was the trip to Omaha?

Kim: Declutters are freeing, no matter how large or small. My deep clean has more to do with allergies than clutter. Asthma and dust argue. LOL

But I do like you list and if you don't mind I'll share it with another group. They might enjoy it.

Well I did finish the raking and I did get the clover topped off. I admit I left the deck high so that the bees had the lower lying flowers while the neighbors are satisfied that I cut the weeds down.

I get a week of normal, a week of vacation, followed by a week of catching up after vacation. Maybe it won't be too bad :)

Hello

I am enjoying all the talk about socks. I live in Florida so I only wear socks when I run or when we get a cold front in. I have a few pairs of big fluffy socks but most of them are little ankle socks for running. But I do have a whole lot of them. Perhaps a good purge is in order. I friend of mine posted a calendar for a de-cluttering challenge. Its one small task a day for a month. Little things like "clean out your wallet" and "sort the master bathroom shelves" and "go through your mail pile." Each day is small and easy to accomplish so I think I might have more luck with it than "Declutter your house"

I am going to try to find it now that I'm no my laptop and not my cell phone. If I can, I will post a copy

Eva - emoticon emoticon on 3 hours!
Glad your yoga is helping your core. Definitely on my list of things to do...

Much needed emoticon today. Guys had hoped to get in some afternoon golf, but not sure DH could have joined, so I'm considering it a double blessing. Not sure how much yardwork I'll be able to get in this weekend either as we head to Omaha for an iPhone battery and office chair Saturday and Sunday's weather looks iffy...

Learned about rug hooking @ Early Birds - we passed around beautiful pillows and rugs. Looks like more patience than I could muster although I may look in my craft drawers and see if there are any fabrics to donate and any needlepoint yet to complete. (Better than Sudoku on the computer...)
Also signed up for a beginning bridge class and offered to present my perspective after 20 years @ the University April 6 @ EB. Will be the 'first Friday' off!

I raked for 3 hours yesterday. I raked up a spotted salamander. Poor guy. I moved him to a safe area of the lawn, in the shade, so he can make his way to a more moist place. I have about 3 more hours to go. Then I have to mow the clover and green onions. That all happens tomorrow.

Kali: I won't say I'm out of shape, but I will say that I am sore from all of the twisting and bending. If it weren't for the squats I hold in yoga I'm betting I'd be worse off than I am today!

Joyce - sounds like a great day - emoticon on the sock drawer, I've reorganized most of our clothes to follow Marie Kondo's suggestions.

Eva - good luck on your test. I'm sure you'll 'pass' with flying colors. I can relate to too many yard chores and sorting them by temperature (and ease).

ZB was super as usual and definitely fortified me for the 2+hours in the yard. Raking was replaced by thatching the last hour. (I can't believe how out of shape I am...) But, even with gentle motions, I still disturbed a lot of the 'clump' grass. Hopefully not a problem when we top dress and overseed...

Kali: It's crazy here. I did get some of the sticks picked up and shuffled over to the edge of the woods. I return them to the trees so to speak. I put them in the woods to rot. If it's warm early I'll go rake. If not then I'll take another half hour game of "pick-up sticks.

How was your ZB session and "couple hour warrior" session?

I like your sock drawer! I need to go through mine again. I wonder if I have enough room for rolling... Hmmm

Joyce: It sounds like you had a good time.

Today I take the audio portion of a test online. I'm about half deaf in my right ear so here come the headphones. Wish me luck!

Feline - I'm with you on the coffee mugs... I've started rolling my socks and standing them on end as suggested in the KonMari approach.

(They too take up an entire drawer, but @ least the ones losing elastic have made it to the [reduced] rag bin.

Eva - emoticon socks make great dust rags. (I guess great minds do think alike). emoticon
It sounds like your March is as erratic as ours. We're supposed to get close to 70, so I plan to take advantage and get some more raking in. ZB massage @ noon will hopefully serve as preventative medicine for the 'couple hour warrior'.

Feline: I have a fluffy sock drawer and a regular sock drawer. I'm a weirdo.

But lost socks do have a purpose! They become dust rags. I seriously use them to clean with. They fit like a mit, and if they get really grungy you can trash them.

Kali: I hope your fearless leader finds a punch of energy.

It's cold here AGAIN. It's 30 degrees this morning. I am so ready for spring. If I'm ready then I know that everyone suffering March snow drifts is sick of winter white.

Oh Happy Pi Day!

Kali: I love socks, so I have the too many problem, too. The emptied drawer became my sock drawer. Just MY sock drawer. And it couldn't fit all my big fluffy ones, lol! Socks and coffee mugs, I have too many of both.

Feline - WTG on cleaning out drawers.
I've never heard of waist training, but whatever works is my motto.
Kim - I'm with you - the less discomfort the better... emoticon
No loner socks for us (too many, but all pairs.)

Eva - glad to hear the shampooing and inside work is complete. Cool that your neighbor wants your leaves. I'm hoping to mulch ours along with the branches. but have a feeling I need to wait until April when I can 'make noise' during a 'work' day.

Roller coaster continues with reorganization. Our fearless leader is so tired of the fight, he's prepared to make compromises he doesn't need to make and to test folks that have told him they'll solve the issues. Hope he can wait.
Car to shop. Lunch with friends. Dinner with the Forum group. Life is GOOD!

Peace: You use steel boned corsets or a waist cincher (which is not boned, and is what the Kardashians use) to reshape your torso. It slowly redistributes your squishy fat and tissue and your floating ribs to make a more distinctive hourglass shape and reduce your overall torso size. They're also used to flatten tummies, smooth shapes, improve posture, and provide back or ab support. I already have an hourglass figure so I am using it mostly to help with a tummy pooch and back support since my posture is terrible.

Kali: I hope the car is alright. It sounds like you had a productive weekend!

The movie didn't get great reviews here either, but then reviews are from an adult prospective. If you go in with the idea of just enjoying the film, with no expectations it's pretty good.

Feline: I'm glad you enjoyed making space! I always enjoy cleaning out drawers!

Kim: Waist training is basically using steel boned corsets to achieve an hour glass shape. You have to be careful not to break rib bones in the process. If you go too small it can damage organs. It was made popular in recent years by Kim Kardashian.

It sounds like you had a fantastic time Saturday! I love a good art show.

Well the spring cleaning is complete. I shampooed carpets yesterday and that's always my "End Game" Now I get to finish the outside. If it's sunny outside I'll go this morning and finish picking up the debris from the yard. My neighbor, bless him, actually wants the leaves, so he's saving me half the work. I'm not having to cart the things down the hill. I'm raking them off the fence and he's mulching them up and carrying them back to his compost bin.

Feline I have never heard of waist training. If it is uncomfortable, than I know I wouldn't keep up with it. Is the idea to train your body to have a smaller waist without the corset down the road?

I laughed about the loner socks. I have a fair number in my drawers too. It might be time for me to pull out the singles and discard them as well

I've also been doing some cleaning. My friend moving in spurred to me clear out my drawers and I managed to fill another bag (which was promptly half emptied by another friend who looted all my maxi skirts), freeing an entire drawer! I then went through and sorted all my socks, finally throwing out my box of lonely socks which I have to admit for years I've been keeping swearing there were matches somewhere. I just need to write down everything in the bags for tax purposes and then we can take them either to Goodwill or to my husbands church for donation.

Has anyone here tried waist training? I am on day five with my first corset and am finding myself equally confused and enjoying it. I think I might be too squishy for the size I bought, which was the size the company recommended, but it seems too big - and most of the comments I've gotten are on how it seems too big. But even after only five days I am seeing more definition in my waist and am finding I'm more often sitting with better posture. I'm looking forward to continuing the journey.

Kim - my guess is you are feeling the effects of the weather north although it sounds like a fabulous Saturday. I too love art shows and the unique and beautiful creations. My only problem is purchasing more 'things', interestingly not considered 'stuff' later...
emoticon I am emoticon about the time change and losing emoticon It will take me a good week to get into the swing, but gotta admit, that extra hour almost makes it worth it. Sounds like FL may make it year round.

Eva - love that the movie propelled Bug into reading the book. It received less than stellar reviews here, but everyone I've talked to enjoyed it.
I can so relate to the movement of stale air. I just reorganized 3 drawers after sending photos of the jewelry to the girls (bad ones I'm afraid) and that small effort alone was freeing.

emoticon Saturday included purchasing an arborvitae and placing 10 bags of mulch. Easier to see the major holes from past trees with matted grass. Also found a potential way to top dress the bumps with a compost from our Lincoln refuse department. Would love to find a way to spread it that's not too expensive (or backbreaking) but we shall see...
emoticon service light came on this morning - so taking it back to the shop tomorrow.
Wish me luck!

I am so happy to hear that they did a good job with A Wrinkle in Time. I doubt I will see it in the theatre but I will put it on my list for Netflix when it comes out.

We had a fabulous weekend We spent most of the day at the biggest art show of the year in our town. Art Under the Oaks Hundreds of artists from around the country as well as a couple dozen local artists. We saw some really fabulous talent. There as a girl from Philadelphia who painted acrylic on aluminum and her work was just stunning. I bought Mike a piece for his birthday. We chatted with many of the artists. It was so fun to hear how happy everyone was for "living the dream. Truly a great day. Sunday was supposed to be a wash out so I planned on inside chores. I got them done and was even able to get a few errands completed since the storm system dissipated.

I for one am happy to have Daylight Savings time. I love the extra daylight in the evening. I just need to change the clock in my car soon. I forgot yesterday and today until I was already driving.

Kali: I'm indeed a lucky momma. I enjoy teaching her how to cook. But I can see how the task would be daunting with 6 kids! Whew! We have "culinary camps" here that I've looked into for her. But I've already taught her much of what they teach, so what's the point of wasting the money?

I hope you hear from the family soon. It is always an awkward conversation, but one everyone needs to have, even people my age.

Kim: We had a chance for snow last night. A mild dusting mind you. I don't think it actually did anything here, but drop back into the 30s.

Saturday's birthday celebration was excellent. My kiddo made a killer coconut cake. She can make a mean breakfast scramble as well.

We got in some raking, and Bug's part of the spring cleaning is finished. I'll finish the rest this week. The carpet shampooer argues with everyone but me emoticon If it warms up and dries up I can go finish the yard work as well. I love spring clean up. It's an excellent time to move out stale energy.

We took Brenna to see A Wrinkle in Time yesterday. It is an excellent movie. The visuals a beautiful. Reese Witherspoon made an excellent Mrs. Whatsit. Mrs. Who's quotes were updated so that kids would recognize some of them. Oprah's Mrs. Which was good too. I got tickled when Brenna said "Mrs. Which sounds an awful lot like Oprah." Anyway the movie is not exactly like the book, but it did cause her to come home and begin reading her own copy of the story.

Feline - hope the emoticon and humans settle in.
Joyce - emoticon back @ ya!

Eva - how cool that Bug chose the movie and spending time with family. You're definitely doing things right. I'm glad to hear about her cooking skills. Mom provided a few opportunities while we growing to learn, but mostly feeding a family of 6 took precedence. (Besides, my Sunday night fudge generally turned into fudge sauce for ice cream).

We've got a long way to go before actual seeding, although given NE winds (and aging participants), I'm thinking we might 'stage' the application, so thanks for your thoughts sending luck.

Kali: good luck with the seeding! I'm so glad your part time work is coming together. It might be easier for you to retire a little at a time, so to speak. So when you fully retire, you won't be floundering.

And thank you. We are an odd bunch for sure, according to our neighborhood. But I don't mind. As long as everything stays relatively smooth I'll keep parenting the way I parent. With a bit of luck I won't have to switch strategies.

Feline: I hope your cats settle down soon. Bless their hearts. You'll find your even footing soon. It'll just take a bit of time.

My mother's birthday is tomorrow. Tomorrow morning I get the privilege of walking Bug through making her birthday cake. She's coming along in her cooking skills nicely. Today is the shopping and if I'm lucky, this afternoon I can get outside with the garden cart. That depends on time. Sunday we plan on taking Bug to see "A Wrinkle in Time." I'm hoping it's as wonderful as the trailer makes it look. She's been pitching in extra the last 2 weeks after school, since Jim is working late. I offered extra allowance or the movie. Surprisingly she chose the movie.

Eva: She did. Her mom had to move her flight a day, though, since they were cutting things so closely. Her mom says Nebraska is a whole different world from Oregon, she's amazed at how big a difference there is from Portland to Omaha. My friend says that is a good thing, and she's looking forward to the change. First day went pretty well. She's a lot more talkative than I am so that is something I will have to get used to - I love to chat online and could talk all day via text, but in person I am super quiet. Since they arrived while I was at work my cats are very freaked out. They liked her last time, but she came home WITH "mom" and "dad" that time so they knew she was okay. This time she arrived loudly with another stranger and lots of boxes. So lots of cats on edge, people getting used to each other.

Eva - sounds like you will "sail" through the terrible teens. I love that you two share so much time and experiences. Not only are you making marvelous memories, but you are building character and values.

Having a good week on the work front. Plans for working part time are shaping up and projects are being approved.
Preparing for 'losing' an hour this weekend. May not be as disturbing as last year as we've been waking around 5:00 (alarm is set for 6:00) and the 'extra' daylight hours after work can be spent in the yard as we hope to get a 'major' jump on over seeding.

Feline: I'm sorry about your husband. I hope he finds something else soon. Perhaps with the new boss it would have been a bad fit anyway. He might be excellent at his job, but that doesn't mean the new boss wouldn't just rub him the wrong way.

Did your friend make it in safely?

Kali: It sound like you had a lovely day. How nice for you to see your friend's work. People surprise you after 50 years, or so I assume, with all they have accomplished.

Brenna has me come read or draw with her every night, in her space. I'm not a snooper and my own bedroom door is usually open to her. Generally speaking we don't lock doors around here, but we do respect a closed door and knock before entering. We aren't an episode of "Leave It to Beaver" but I figure I have to lead by example. There's nothing in our bedroom that she can't see if she walks in. There's nothing on my phone or social media accounts that I can't let her see and I make it clear that what you put on the internet lives there FOREVER, even if you delete it. She doesn't have social media yet. We don't own gaming systems, and she's pretty good about following the rules and knows closing a laptop or hiding her phone (emergency calls only but she has a few apps like minecraft) is the easiest way to lose the electronic. It's a sign of guilt or embarrassment and will prompt me to check it immediatly. I've told her it's all a matter of trust. So she's currently open with me. And that's not bad considering we are headed toward double digits.I know a lot of kids who aren't. I hope she stays this open.

I've been told, by her former teachers, that my approach of being present but not overbearing just may help keep that open relationship through the terrible teens. Only time will tell.

Eva - sounds like your spring cleaning is occurring inside and out. How cool that Bug still gives you access to her room... We too are 'suffering' our cold spell for a couple more days, but we always seem to have 'bad' weather during Boys State basketball tournament time. (Or maybe it's just March.)
emoticon
Feline - so sorry to hear about DH's dream job. My guess is something even better will open up for him. I'm glad your friend stopped in North Platte. Traveling across NE in those high winds would be nerve wracking @ best.

I did make the trip to see my HS friend and he was gracious enough to meet me @ Cracker Barrel which was a more sheltered drive for me. The roads were basically clear by noon, but the blowing snow was still an issue. We had a great lunch and realized we hadn't seen each other in almost 50 years. He gave me copies of a couple of his books and his first CD

and we talked about travel, families, careers and retirement. It was great to see him.
I took the afternoon off as I wasn't sure about road conditions and needed to take Liz to the vet. They could take her early, so no concerns with our rush 'minute'. DH and I were able to split the rest of my lunch Cobb salad as well as left-overs for dinner, so the day was an easy one!

My friend didn't make it last night as planned, but did cross the Nebraska border and get a room in North Platte. She's hoping to make it to my place by noon. Unfortunately I couldn't take a third day off from work without notice (I thought I remembered something about mandatory training today and didn't want to risk it) so I won't be there to meet her and her mom when they arrive. The house is set up for their arrival though, with food ready for them, coffee set up, the TV set to Netflix, and towels set out for a probably much desired hot shower.

We got some bad news yesterday. My husband has been working towards a specific position for 5 years at his job and found out the upper management in charge of final decisions doesn't want him. Since his bosses are leaving and the new boss doesn't like him, and there's now no chance of him getting the job he's dreamed of, he has to begin looking for a new job. My boss wanted him here in our IT department but it's too late now, both of the positions he was qualified for were filled.

Kali: I hear good things about Camp BowWow. If she attends I hope she enjoys it. She misses her pack. Poor Girl.

Did you make that drive? I don't think I could have done it.

We have a cold snap the next couple of days but then we are back to normalish temps for March. Bug finished her homework early and took advantage of the freshly swept trampoline yesterday afternoon. (I put it in the shade so LEAVES!)

I'm half way done with indoor spring cleaning. I have the family room and bedrooms to go. Bug has expressed a desire to store some thing in her room. And that's fine, but she'll need assistance in packing them up properly, so It looks like that might be a time consuming room.

Eva - We don't have groundhogs, but the squirrels (and birds) assist with our volunteer under-story. We even have a burr oak which will take years (100 or so) to mature, but the volunteers are so resilient, especially with our changing climate conditions.
Lowes has an early shipment of arborvitae and we'll want to watch to snag one of the large ones to replace a bagworm defoliated tree. Never fails. I didn't know how to treat and of course the moths found the thickest, tallest tree in the bunch...
March emoticon with 50 mph gusts here and I'm supposed to meet a HS friend (actually old boyfriend) for lunch up by the interstate. While I'd like to see him, my appetite for driving in the open is pretty limited.
Taking Liz to the vet for bordetella oral vaccine after work - she seems really lonely and we thought going to Camp Bow Wow a couple days a week might help.

Kim: It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend. I'm so glad it left you feeling refreshed. It's nice Mike and your dog got in some male bonding time while you recharged.

Kali: Good luck with the grass. My brother in law would buy broken sod squares, apparently no one wants broken squares and he got a discount. He would plug the lawn after seeding. He had the idea that if the seeds failed, the plugs would "catch" and spread. I'll say this, he had an excellent lawn.

I'm hoping to get out there and do some raking myself soon. We had over 14 inches of rain in February. Some parts of the yard is just mush. I'm hoping early next week I can go do some of the clean up in the side lawn, under the trees. It'll be nice to have it done. I'm lucky, no pine trees but I've got acorns and hickory nuts for days. I love watching the squirrels and groundhogs under the oak and hickory trees.

Feline - glad you came to agreement on your friend's temporary quarters. You are a gem for taking her in.

Joyce - sounds like a productive and peaceful weekend.

Eva - I'll bet you're a terrible prisoner! Glad Bug liked the play - the younger we can introduce the arts, the better... I'm jealous about the backyard picnic.

Kim - what a perfect weekend. Nothing like recharging your batteries and having the 'boys' bond.

We didn't make it to the golf course, but did get several hours of raking in. (Amazing how quickly pine cones dig their way into sparse grass...) Given the loss of trees last year (5 in our yard and one in our neighbors) we may have a better chance @ some green stuff. I've checked out the recommended type (tall fescue) and found a 'blue' certification (clean seed) as well as per-emergent that won't harm seedlings, so if we can get the yard ready for an early seeding, we have a chance.
Weekend was spent @ an all gal's bridal shower and painting @ DH's office. They discovered mold (to which he has high sensitivities) and only painted the walls they abated. We finished with errands and of course had to include a footlong chili cheese dog for lunch.

Happy Monday!

I was off the grid this weekend. I went to Fort Lauderdale for the weekend by myself. I met with a spiritual advisor on Saturday evening and then went to a worship service and a workshop on Sunday, I feel like my tanks have been refilled. Mike took my dog for the weekend and they bonded with some boy time in the pool and a fresh trim for the dog.

Feline - I have no doubt that your friend will be very comfortable. You have been extremely thoughtful throughout the process. She is lucky to have you!

Eva - Your weekend sounds very nice. I think pirates are supposed to escape so I think you were probably a very good one .... misbehaved but good!

Joyce - don't you just love the quiet moments when you can grab them?

Kim: I hope you feel better.

Kali: How was golfing?

Feline: I'm sure you're friend will be comfortable no matter what. And it's very kind of you to consider he cat since it might not fall right in with your crew.

Joyce: Sounds like a lovely morning :)

We made it out to see Footloose. The kids did and awesome job. My mom was well pleased and my Bug figured out that plays are not boring, despite what the kids at school keep telling her. Yesterday we landed in the back yard. Jim grilled. Brenna and I played "pirates." I'm a terrible prisoner. I keep escaping LOL.

Wishing everyone a great Saturday, cleaned and organized desk in computer room, did my devotions early this morning sitting by the pellet stove, it was very warm cozy and comforting.
Plus hubby wasn't up so it was nice and quiet.

My brother texted this morning to tell me my niece is sick. I am thinking of popping by their apartment with her toolkit and some hot cocoa tomorrow anyway - presents might help her feel a bit better, and I'll get to give her an in person hug.

My friend arrives Tuesday and we've decided to give her the upstairs room. It will be easier to clean, a nicer (though smaller) space that is closer to the bathroom, and the basement has necessary litterboxes (we have 5, she's bringing 1) that we can't close off to protect her cat while we can close off the upstairs room. It will be strange having someone living in the room next to the master bedroom, I'm used to being alone up there, but it should hopefully be just for a few months. This weekend will be filled with last minute cleaning and arranging to make sure we're set to accommodate her.

Jan - I also struggle with meditation from time to time. Sometimes for long periods of time. Somewhere along the line "we" bought into the idea that the only valid form of meditation was a very long quiet sit with absolutely no thoughts going through our heads. That is utterly unrealistic for the vast majority of people. I work with a variety of mediation practices which all work well in their place. Some examples: recorded guided meditation, watching your breath in and out, watching your thoughts as they go by, vivid imagination into a peaceful place, body concentration, walking mediation where you concentrate carefully on each movement, or (an old favorite or mine) a long repetitive exercise like running or cycling where you can fall into the patter of your heartbeat or breathing.

I am struggling a bit this morning with my vitamins. I must not have had enough food on my stomach and I have a bit of nausea. It also makes me a little dizzy. I hope the feeling goes away soon.

Feline: I hope your niece enjoys the builders class. My daughter has a similar pink took kit. She loves it. And I admit I do too for easy projects that do not require a heavy weight hammer.

Jan: I think we all struggle with meditation from time to time. When my mind is busy busy I do a simple thing. I say "In" when I breath in and "out" when I breath out. It focuses my mind to my breath only instead of the 4000 things that I clutter my brain. It's a good one that I practice in car rider line regularly.

Well my instapot is one on the recall list. I'm headed back to walmart today to return it. I'll either get a refund or they'll issue me a new pot. I don't care which. If It's a refund I'm just going to go buy something to replace the instapot i'm returning, like a different model of the instapot.

Good Afternoon.

I am new here and new (and struggling) with meditation. Busy mind. So many have recommended it to me so I am going to give it a shot.

Found some good sites in the resource thread.

Have a great day and any suggestions would be appreciated.

Eva: I cracked my tailbone falling down the stairs. I couldn't see the stairs and was trying to avoid my cats and took a spill. Those darn cats.

I have my niece this Saturday morning, once a month I take her to a kiddy builders workshop. She always refuses to use the tools because they're not child-sized so this week I bought her a girl's toolkit - a pink, child-sized kit with goggles, an apron, gloves, and a full set of tools. Hopefully this week she will be willing to hammer! We're building a periscope, and I just know she will LOVE using it to spy on her parents and her kitties. I have an appointment after, so we're doing breakfast instead of lunch. I'm going to let her choose where we go, and hope she picks somewhere breakfasty, lol.

And Hello March!

Kim: Thank you. I'm not too sore today. My pride is mostly compromised. I heard one of the cats in distress. Turns out they were tussling and someone got mad. But I went to investigate since it was midnight and it's unusual to hear that specific cat noise in the middle of the night around here. I whipped the covers back too fast, got 3 toes on my left foot caught in the sheet. I made a gracefully thunk to the floor. Woke up Jim when I said some unflattering words about some poor soul's mother. I'm glad I did not have to go to the doctor. I'm sure I would have been laughed out of the exam room.
