Kali: I'm like Kim, I forget how different our winters are. While it's usually cool and wet, we are not isolated most of the time. But I know how stir crazy we get when we have that 1 week of snow each year.

Kim: I hope Mike enjoys his concert. I didn't realize Disney had a camp ground.

Thank you both. You are very sweet. We teach our kids about being brave. That soldiers, law enforcement, fire fighters, and emergency respondents are all brave people. And it's true, but that doesn't mean they are not scared. It just means they have learned how to control their fear instead of the fear controlling them. Someone should remind kids that just because you are considered brave doesn't mean you are not scared.

I managed to clean out 2 cabinets and the top shelf of my pantry (the catch all shelf) yesterday. I hoping to get to the other cabinets today and maybe even wash them down. I purged 2 boxes of things that haven't been used in at least 2 years. Jim agreed to help me get it all to donation when I'm done. He may regret that offer LOL!

I'm also a 37 year old woman that managed to fall out of the bed last night. Landed right on my hip, so today I'm thankful for that extra little bit of padding that's still hanging on back there!

Good evening Team

I think it is interesting how where we live changes our perspective on the world. I live in Florida where it has been 85 degrees all week. We are going to get a cold spell over the weekend where it will dip into highs in the low 70s. So when Kali mentioned winter retirements, I had to pause and try to remember what "winter weather" is really like and the isolation that it could produce. I think it's a very good idea to have a plan in place for that.

My mother had the opposite problem when my father retired. She called me once to vent that he was ALWAYS there and it was driving her crazy. They had quite the adjustment period until she could settle back into her routines and he could find his own. They both play golf (together and separately) which seems to help some. They seem to have it worked out now. But dad has been retired for over 20 years. LOL

Mike got invited to a Grateful Dead concert in Orlando with one of his high school buddies. They are camping at Disney's campground after the show tonight and will come home tomorrow. I am a little envious of his adventure although I am enjoying a quiet evening at home tonight.

Eva - I am so sorry to hear what you witnessed as a child. I think it is wonderful that you were able to share you story with your daughter and let her know that fear is normal and ok. I think we forget to tell our kids that part of it.

Eva - Glad you come out the emoticon in your life. Amazing how we are shaped by life events... Hope you are enjoying a return to normalcy.

Winter retirements (without plans) in Nebraska can lead to depression, food (including alcohol) abuse and other problems. Even my well adjusted friends have told me they were sorry to retire when the light was waning as their spirits followed.
We are fortunate to have emoticon and emoticon so I'm not anticipating a problem, but we shall see...

Kali: It sounds like a fine plan. What's the issue with winter retirement? I'd think the not having to drive in less than stellar weather conditions would be an attractive one.

Thank you. I've seen a lot in my 37 years. You either learn from the mess that hits or let it beat you. I'm too stubborn to let it beat me. emoticon

Eva - emoticon and double emoticon
I knew you were resilient, I just didn't know how much. I'm so glad the teacher shared with the kids - it's silly not to with the number of smartphones young people have. Better to give them a person they know they can trust.
Glad the weather missed you - it is true, the Universe does have our back...
May some quiet normalcy surround you and yours.

emoticon Getting a handle on the semi/retirement issue. Current plan is to bring a colleague in as my replacement through the end of the 2019 fiscal year. That allows me to further my planning agenda through June @ which time I switch to contracts until the end of December. Delays taking Medicare (not only the expense, but confusion) and (finally) produces a 'suite' of contract documents. Think it's workable and although I've been warned about retiring in the winter, there's so much I want to do, I should be fine.
We shall see. emoticon

Feline: It may be the same thing. I'm going by a DVD my friend sent me for the name. Although I'll say I'm looking less into the combo. It moves faster than I think is safe for me knowing my joints. I'm wondering about Kim's combo of Yoga and running. But mine would have to start as a power walk because I promise you I'm no runner. I'm more like a herd of turtles.

And Round is most definitely a shape LOL!

Kim: I think swimming would be an excellent way to fight the fear of over doing it while getting back into shape. I too can relate to the up and down. Mine is about the same as yours. and it's STUBBORN! Thank you for the reminder of the Yoga running combo. Like I said mine will be a brisk power walk, because I'm no runner. emoticon

Kali: We took the rain back on Friday and Saturday. I hope you find your semi-retirement solution. My grandfather use to tell me you get old when you stop working. And that's why he maintained a large garden up into his 80's. It might be good for you to ease into retirement

We had a hard weekend here. Friday Brenna's school was placed under a soft lock down due to a social media threat. If there's a "lucky" turn of these events, her teacher has been under an active shooter lock down. It's part of the reason she changed schools. She kept the kids informed, even though the front office instructed them to keep the kids in the dark. She told them not to be scared, but if she gave the word it was serious, not a drill. And she kept her head.

So this weekend my mother and I have had to share our stories with Brenna. Ones we hoped she'd never need to know. When I was 6 I saw a neighbor shot and killed. My mom was with me. My mom has been under 2 different lock downs at 2 different jobs, one over a bomb threat and one over an active shooter in the immediate area. It helper her to know that being scared is normal.

Then Saturday night we had tornadoes all over the place. The goddess must have heard me because we ended up having everything down graded to just heavy rain before the storm actually reached us.

So I'm just hoping we have a quiet week with just homework and chores.

Feline - emoticon emoticon is definitely a 'shape'...
Bummer on the friend location - you both have good points to consider. Good luck on arriving @ a conclusion and congrats on joint ST!
Eva - glad the emoticon stopped. (I think you sent it here as we woke to 1/4" of ice...)
Yogalaties sounds really interesting. My only caution is form (although the same applies to ST). My PT friend says Pilates keeps them in business...
Kim - love the idea of emoticon We actually have maintained a 'resort' membership with the anticipation of using the pool. I can relate to the 5 up and down and after reaching the upper limit (and maintaining for the month), it's time to get serious and find a routine...

More progress on retirement. Looks like we'll solve a couple 'problems' by co-chairing our planning group. (My original concern was the lack of productivity of my partner, but the outcome could be getting steps in place to move the program forward and knowing it won't drastically change direction after I leave.) Not to mention other perception issues. (Gotta love those 'pride of ownership' quandaries...)
I have to admit I was not prepared for the price tag of health care (particularly prescriptions) and am considering working part time longer if the option is available. I'll need to step aside from the planning group as that is paid out of a budget restricted pot, but I may (keep your fingers crossed) be able to move under the legal department and finish up some long overdue contract work. We shall see...
Looks like more emoticon and potentially emoticon in the forecast for Saturday, but the larder is full so we can hunker down...

Ugh I posted a reply to Eva about the Yoga / Pilates a few hours ago and its not there. I hate when that happens.

I have never heard of the combination but it makes sense. The disciples are quite similar. I was in the best shape of my life when I was doing yoga 3 mornings a week and running 3 days a week. I was also on a very restrictive diet due to the first bout of Lyme disease. But when I see the pictures from that time period, my muscle tone was phenomenal and I wasn't doing any other kind of strength training. Yoga really has a lot more strength training than you would originally think. When done properly, a lot of strength is required to get into and stay in many of the poses.

On that note, I am sadly NOT in that kind of shape right now. After my last Lyme relapse, I have allowed my fear of over doing it to take over and become laziness. I haven't gained any weight over the last year and a half (just the same 5 up and down and up and down.) But I have lost muscle tone and my clothes don't fit well. I feel and look like I gained 10 or 15 pounds. I know what I need to do but I am having such a hard time getting motivated. I looked up gym's last weekend but haven't decided which one to join. I am leaning toward the one with a pool since I used to really enjoy swimming when I was doing triathlons. They also offer spin class a few early mornings a week. That is a fun way to cross train. I just need to check into my health insurance to see if I can get a discounted membership ..... and then just do it Mostly just do it!

Eva: Is Yogalates different than Piyo? I enjoy Pilates and Piyo (I am doing a yoga class right now, but tbh it's more stress inducing than stress relieving), but I haven't heard of Yogalates.

I'm fine with him setting his mancave up in the office, that's where it used to be. He doesn't like the idea though, he's using the excuse that he'll keep me awake but I am pretty sure he just doesn't want to move all his gaming equipment up the stairs.

On the plus side, he agreed to do personal training with me. I had been considering quitting, but if my personal trainer can fit us both into the schedule at the same time I'll keep going.

Kali: I love your plans! I see so many people retire and just quit living because they did not make some sort of plan as to what to do with themselves.. I knew in my heart that's not you, but I had to ask.

Feline: Can your husband have a temporary "Man Cave" in the office? It just seems like a good idea.

On ST: I'm looking at Yogalaties. That Yoga and Pilates fusion. Normally I'm a "static Yoga" kind of girl. I walk a lot. I enjoy it, but I'm thinking as I age I'm going to have to up my game and I'm not a gym person. Which is all I hear around here. I'm also considering a traditional set of ST exercises. But I've got to be honest, I prefer the Yoga.

The rain has let up for now but we expect more tonight and into tomorrow. I didn't have to get out the pool floats to get Bug to school yesterday so I consider it a win!

Eva: I love the way strength training makes me feel. I am stronger, and my shape is reappearing. Not that round isn't a shape, lol, but I am enjoying seeing definition in my arms and my hourglass return. I did 50 sit-ups on my own this past Friday, after starting 3 months ago not able to do any and needing assistance to do even one sit-up! Strength training is pretty awesome. I actually prefer it to cardio now, but I know I need to let my muscles heal between sessions.

My husband and I are arguing over where my friend should stay when she gets here in two weeks. We had originally planned the basement, since she's bringing her cat and it has more room and its own entrance. But the basement is currently his "mancave" and he doesn't want to give it up, and wants her in his office. The office does have a nicer window, but is right next to the master bedroom, and since we're trying for a baby I think that would just make things awkward for everyone since that's less room and less privacy all around. Plus, we get up at 5:00 every day, and I am worried about waking her in the mornings if she's in the room next to both bathrooms with us both showering, getting dressed, etc. She has no preference, just whatever is less hassle for us, so it won't be too much extra work to clean them both out and decide, but we're running short on time!

Eva - here's hoping there's no need for a rowing emoticon or emoticon team.
Love that you are clearing away things "that no longer serve you" (as Chopra would say). I've found such lightness in being surrounded by those things I love and am a follower of Marie Kondo's approach of 'honoring' our things by giving them a second life (and the joy of knowing someone else will find pleasure in the gift). Good on you for contemplating a yard sale - too much work for this gal...
It's also emoticon you're contemplating your health game plan. I am a huge advocate of strength training. Cardio is definitely important, given heart disease is the major killer of US women, but I can assure you, muscle mass is critical. Regulates metabolism (which definitely slows as we age) and keeps the joints supported. It's a 'use it or lose it' proposition and I can attest that the climb 'back' to a strong body takes longer as we age. The wonderful thing is there are multiple forms of ST, including your yoga and the HIT options for cardio lessen the time commitment to keep your heart strong.

emoticon Sorry for the length of this response, but I'm loving contemplating retirement...
My list for retirement is a mile long (and has several of the recommendations from www.dailygood.org/story/1935/the-sec
re
t-to-happiness-around-the-world-homeR>togo/

First (assuming good weather) is starting the day on the deck with a emoticon

Followed by working in the yard.

Next is adding 'balance' exercises that I just don't seem to have emoticon for...

I plan to continue with Teammates and the Foster Care Review Board as well as rejoin PEO, restart my (or join a new) bookclub, take up bridge and majongg, deliver Meals on Wheels - well, you get the drift...

I intend to reconnect to family, including visiting my sis and having her visit me

Finally, I fully intend to take time for myself emoticon

Kali: How's the preparations for retirement going? A strange question, but do you have an idea of what you want to do after you retire? A special type of volunteer work? My mother maintains she wants to become a door greeter at Walmart when she retires just for the people watching.

Well I finished spring cleaning in the laundry room. Now I think I need some boxes. I plan to purge my kitchen cabinets. I really need to break down and have a yard sale. I'm done for the week. Next week I'll choose another room. Maybe the bathrooms and possibly my bedroom.

I'll be 38 in July. I've started looking at how my health plan needs to change in my 40's. I know it's a bit early but I figure if I start now it will be habit by then. Mostly I'm finding that I should do more ST to maintain muscle mass. Cardio is important but the focus should be on ST. Any thoughts?

It's raining here. Relentless rain. We'll probably have some flooding at the low areas and the river. I wonder if the neighbors are up for creating the "Main Street Rowing Team." emoticon

Kim - love the image I have of God emoticon
Isn't it amazing how kindness reaps such rewards.

Eva - another great choice for 'pomp and ceremony' as well as openness and acceptance is the UCC. (Love their, "Don't put a period where God has a comma.) Amazing to think they sprang from such rigid roots (and burning witches) to such a loving community.

Enough philosophy...

I am in the process of analyzing finances to see if there's a decision making 'ah-ha' re: retirement date or @ least how many hours I want to work. Good thing is I know the universe has my back.

I'm of the mind that every religion has it's own problems. Each sub-sect (denomination for the Christian faiths) has it's own unique set of issues. That said, I also believe each one of them has something good to contribute to the world. I've never practiced Lent, but I see it's value. On a side note, if you want to observe the intricate ceremony of the Catholics try an Episcopal church. They are much more accepting of most walks of life while maintain the ceremony similar to the Catholic church. But I'm a bit biased, my best friend from high school is a gay Episcopal priest that's been married for the last 10 years. He's pretty much a poster child for what a "good Catholic" isn't. And he owns it.

Kali: Trust me when I say that all the deep cleaning I do twice per year isn't because I love to clean. It's because I'm trying to keep down allergens. The deep freeze happened because I was tired of wrestling the food into the freezer when I buy in bulk.

Kim: How nice that Mike's father used the gift as a catalyst to share memories of his wife.

Hello All

I've been reading regularly but haven't had the chance to post in awhile.

Eva - I LOVE Gatlinburg. My father got his PHD at Tennessee in the late 70's and we used to go up to the Smokey Mountains and Gatlinburg regularly. Mike and I went back a few years ago and he loved it too. Have a fantastic time!

Kali - I am not a practicing Catholic either but I was raised in the faith. I can not even imagine a Priest holding those views. But then my Aunt was excommunicated in the 60's for marrying a Jewish man. Maybe that is why my Mother kept her meditation practice secret while I was growing up. I am glad that you were able to take something good from the experience and not hold a resentment over it. I am currently non denominational and practice something that works for me.

Mike got me several bouquets of roses from his neighbor who sells them on the corner on big holidays. It was way too much for one person, so we took some up to his father at the retirement home. We figured that even if he didn't care too much about them, he could at least hand them out to the nurses who take such great care of him. To our surprise and joy, he was truly touched by the gift. It reminded him of his wife who died several years ago. And we had great fun listening to stories that even Mike didn't know. Such a lovely day and a great reminder that a small act of kindness might just open a door that you never realized was there. God Winks!

Joyce - I too believe Lent is a time of renewal for Christians and although the Pope did not "say" the following, I find the poster thought provoking and peaceful.

Eva - you make me so emoticon and green. We have an ancient (@ least 60 year old) refrig in the garage that Desperately needs defrosting - with you as my inspiration, I will put it on the list for the first day of good weather. (not sure the ice would melt with our current temperatures...)
I loved visiting Gatlinburg when we lived in KY - we even rented a cabin and invited my folks one time. The people watching (and shopping) rivaled the fabulous scenery. No wonder you're excited.
Hope the new computer is faster and allows some software upgrades you'll enjoy.

TMI - but, while Catholic by conversion, I'm not practicing. The diocese is not interested in social justice and so archaic girls are not allowed to serve mass, the previous bishop excommunicated a group of progressive women and suggested yoga is a cult. I do (as with all things) take what touched me and practice my faith in my own way, but I have to admit I miss the community and taking the Host.
I also come from a genetic background of alcoholism, so Lent gives me the opportunity to prove I am 'just' an abuser (and lose 5-10 pounds). As part of the journey this year, I'm mindfully watching the habit 'triggers'. They used to be "it's healthy, I deserve this", etc.) We shall see what happens April 1.

Kali: I have never observed Lent, but I have considered it in the past. I am not much of a regular drinker but I do feel better when I don't. I also feel better when I avoid a lot of highly processed foods (Oreos are my kryptonite). I always return and I have no idea why. The human condition I suppose.

I know it's not spring yet, but the indoor spring cleaning began yesterday with defrosting and cleaning out the deep freeze. My poor husband thought I was joking when I told him that it was half day project.

In other news, my hard drive went caput. So I ended up buying a new computer for the home office space.

We also booked out hotel rooms for the spring break trip. The original plans changed so we are now headed to the Smokey Mountains for a week. We will split out time between Chattanooga and Gatlinburg. I'm a little excited. I really do love the mountains.

Good afternoon, been a semi busy day, hope everyone is having a great day.

Kaligirl, I don't give up anything for Lent, did maybe when younger and once when adult, now I use the time to grow in faith and work on transforming myself into being more loving, understanding, studying, learning from various forms to be what I think God wants from us all.

Kurtzie - it's difficult to solve a problem that is so large and multi-faceted...
Perhaps the high school students will find a way to move the needle off center.

Good weekend - laundry, errands, emoticon cleaned (and cleaner), emoticon wood moved into the garage in anticipation of the next delivery. Still need to work on the planning part (meals, projects, etc.)
Lenten abstinence from emoticon amazes me every year. I don't miss the experience, so I wonder why I continue the 'habit'.

Eva I agree, I don't people use common sense or know what that is. I am a gun owner, and I took classes, keep my guns in a safe place and learned how to shoot. I do believe if most of our gun laws were followed that would help but we do have a mental health problem and no one seems to want to talk about it. And for the authorities to ignore and not follow up when they were told about this young man (apparently the schools also knew about his problems) is terrible.

Eva - I'm not sure there is much common sense either and I certainly don't know what we can do to help those who feel so disenfranchised... My teammate needs anger management assistance and while I don't believe she would injure others, she might injure herself.

Finished a major report and had a very productive afternoon meeting. emoticon
Weekend will involve moving firewood into the garage (still old man winter here), hoping Allo will fix a problem with the TV remote and taking a load to the People's City Mission.

Jester: mindful eating is a fun one to cultivate when you are with others. People think it's weird that the 3 of us have dinner at the table with no TV every night. But it's fun. We get silly at times and actually have conversations. I hope you enjoy the journey.

Feline: How nice that you can help a friend! I think it's a really nice idea to create her some personal kitchen space. It will make her feel at home, I'm sure.

Kali: I'm glad to hear your hearing was a success. You've always been one of the good guys. Your Valentine's day sounds fun. I'll have to check out the link.

After the school shooting Wendsday, gun control is being discussed at every corner. I'm not really popular at the moment. I said, "I love cats. I have 6. That doesn't mean I should be allowed to own lions and tigers." I'm not anti-gun so much as I'm pro common sense.... but then common sense isn't that common is it?

Eva - glad to hear you are feeling better and what a fun Valentine's Day surprise - bless the florist/construction owners.
Kim - happy emoticon to you too.

JSTETSER - glad to hear about your mindful eating - sounds like it's a great change.

Feline - how wonderful to assist your friend. Maybe you'll learn some new yummy foods as a reward.

Testimony went well enough. The bill (which would have cost all state agencies) will not advance and we now understand the Senator's intent. We're gathering our forces to suggest changes and become the "good guys" in the next go round. It will be fun to watch the "charge' from the wings.
Spent valentines dinners with my Forum group and our significant others and answered questions (who cooks, takes longer to get ready, is late, etc.) and compared notes as part of the fun. I'd listened to another exercise that brings people together and develops understanding and intimacy and thought I'd give it a try with DH this weekend and my high school girlfriends when they visit this summer 36questionsinlove.com/

My husband got me a cute card and sent me a lovely note with cake truffles and mini cheesecakes at work. I made him tuna casserole for dinner.

We're in the final countdown now, a friend is temporarily moving in with us on March 5 so we have to get the house cleaned and the basement cleared out and set up for her. I want to be a good host so I am trying to think of ways to accommodate her. She has a special diet to follow so I think I will clear out a shelf on the fridge for her and a cabinet in the kitchen.

I am learning a lot about mindful eating lately. I've turned off the TV during meals, and focus on the food and the people who are eating with me.

Kim: I look like I'm a germophobe going shopping. I wipe the world and sanitize hands if there's not soap and water available. Flu B is on the upswing here and I'm still not sure I didn't have Flu B and the test was given too early.

Elderberry Syrup is in short supply.

I hope you all had a nice Valentine's day! We sure did. I did get tickled. Flowers were being delivered to the house. It was a surprise for Bug (and one was snuck in on me). The people that own the florist also own a construction company. It was raining and the men couldn't work the job sites, so instead of sending them home they had the option to deliver flowers. I had 2 big burly construction guys deliver flowers, complete in their florescent safety vests. There were construction men all over my little town dropping off bouquets of roses. Bless them they we way out of their element. But I do think it's nice that the owner gave them an option so they did not miss a day's wages.

My weekend begins at 3 pm today! My whole crew will be home.

Eva - I am glad that you are feeling better. It seems that several people who had one of the illnesses going around are now getting one of the other bugs going around. I am taking extra precautions when going into public these days. Lots of hand wipes and hand washing.

Kali - I hope your testimony went well. I would be so nervous doing something like that

Happy Valentine's Day!

Kali: How was your testimony?

I think I finally have my energy back from having the crud. It's taken 2 weeks after the illness passed for me to feel more like me again. It was rough.

I made my list yesterday of what needs to be done. I'll start in here next week. It's a sad situation when you are happy it's time to do base boards again!

Feline - the organization can be found here: bridgestohopene.org/
Sounds like a good plan to give your personal trainer a rest as long as you have a routine. Friday nights would never work for me, but first thing in the morning does (or @ least did). Part of formulating the part-time schedule will include physical health (as well as yardwork...)

Eva - I just received my Christmas present (the boots not the pup)

and am delighted with how comfortable they are.
I definitely plan to use for spring emoticon

Finishing testimony for tomorrow's hearing and hope to discuss strategy with our internal lobbyist. Plodding forward with a report for the board (not detail oriented and it's like pulling teeth...) Need to remember that 'this too shall pass' and be grateful for the here and now!

Kali: It does sound like a wonderful organization won out. My father would have been grateful if an organization like that had existed in our area when he was released in the mid 90's.

I hope you enjoyed your snowy weekend!

Feline: I think you have a good idea about the trainer, comparing the time frames to see if the trainer is a factor in the fluctuations. Besides you still have all the knowledge you gained will to the one on one sessions. You can keep what serves you and toss the rest.

I'm about to begin making my spring cleaning list. One for the house and one for the yard. this winter has left my yard in a serious mess. I'm hoping late March and early April lend to plenty dry days so I don't loose my boots trying to clean up out there.

Kali, it sounds like a wonderful organization won. What organization is it? I'd love to learn more about it.

I am thinking about quitting my personal trainer. My weight fluctuations began when I started there, and it'd be nice to have that money (and my Friday night) back. I am thinking I won't renew when my time ends and I'll compare the time periods against each other, see how I do with the trainer versus without.

Kim - emoticon for suggesting I am infusing the retirement outcome with love.
ALICIA363 is writing an "Every Day Grateful" blog series and talks about what she imbued with love that day - very uplifting...
Glad the frenetic pace of tax season has lessened for you and you have 'time' for yourself.
Eva - how fun to have a family emoticon dinner. Good thing you can get the shopping out of the way without others.

The Credit Union wasn't one of the selected non-profits and I was glad of it. The recipient of the funds was a group that provides much needed assistance to folks released from prison (everything from coffee and cookies to assistance finding furnished places to live). As Mother Theresa said, "In God's own time..."

Kali: I hope your DH's credit union is chosen. It would be a wonderful boost for such a young organization!

Prayers that retirement plans are still running smoothly!

Kim: I'm glad you had a moment for mindless tv.

I've taken to watching entirely too much Youtube in my "still moments" But I found the wonderful lady on there, Jeanne Robertson. She speaks at corporate events but man is she funny. I laughed until I had tears.

Shopping today. It should be quick and easy as I go before everyone else is out of their PJ's. I get to plan the Valentine's Day dinner. We celebrate as a family, and Jim's portion will be delayed to the long weekend by my request. If it falls during the week, I cook a special meal.

I love your husbands surprise "guess what" I agree though that usually that phrase is followed by somewhat less welcome news. I hope you all have a fabulous long weekend!

Kali - I can't even imagine planning for retirement. I have a feeling that things will work out just fine since you are putting so much love into the outcome.

I had another good day - busy but not crazy and I am tired this evening but don't have anything that I have to do. So I will watch a bit of mindless TV and hit the sack early. Tomorrow should also be a good day for catching a few things up. Then on client on Saturday before a baby shower. All in all - life is good!

Eva - I agree, that was a very welcome 'Guess What?" - Knowing you, the 4 day weekend will be full of fun and adventure.

Excited that I could submit my exception to the hiring freeze request and job description to get that ball rolling. We'll see where it goes as it needs presidential approval and I'm not sure what channels before that. The important thing is moving forward...
I need to be careful about pushing 'too much' as the situation is still fluid. We may consolidate under the current structure as opposed to the "announced" proposal, so I don't want to alienate folks in the process. (I have the opportunity to stay on and work on special projects - which I would love.)

Going to put DH's credit union 'in the hat' tonight @ our 100s of Women Who Care gathering. We pick 3 non-profits to support and if drawn, I'll have 3 minutes to 'sell' the organization. Wish me luck!

Kim: Glad to see you are getting back to your normal. How cool is it that you saw Space X launch!

Kali: Your retiring is kind of like when a person is moving out of a rental. Hopefully, they want to make sure everything is in order for the next tenet. I would think that your wanting to make sure everything is ship shape would be normal.

Today I get a normal day! My kiddo is out of school next Friday and the following Monday. My husband came home and said "Guess What?" Nothing ever good come from a guess what around this place. I said "What, now?" He said "I took 2 days vacation so I could be with y'all next week." And he grinned. So I guess I have to change my mind about "Guess What?" always bringing trouble. emoticon

Joyce - great article emoticon for sharing. Sounds like an idyllic day - looking forward to our weather providing the same opportunities.
Eva - how cool to give your elder friends haircuts. emoticon
Glad you had time with your mom. I miss mine.

Kim - glad you were able to watch the launch - definitely a new chapter in space travel...
Here's to a normal schedule and getting caught up! (not sure I will say the same until the day I cross over...)
emoticon
Stirring the pot @ work - forwarding proposals to move our reorganization off center and @ least get the discussion started as to what direction to pursue. Retirement does those things to me, as I want to 'leave' this place in the best possible 'shape'.
Much welcomed emoticon but slippery roads, so not looking forward to two outings. But the emoticon is just fine!

Hello everyone

All is well down here in Florida. It is warm again. I was able to watch the launch of the Space X rocket yesterday afternoon. We were 50 miles away but you could see the fire ball in the sky. Very much like the space shuttles. It was quite a treat. I was at the Chamber of Commerce right on the Indian River. Quite a few people stopped to watch and then we went back inside and watched the NASA footage on TV. Very cool indeed!

January is over so I am back to a normal schedule. I played a little catch up this week but should be about caught up. So very grateful for that!

Kurtzie: Thank you for the link. I'm glad you enjoyed a long walk with Kayla.

Yesterday I went with my mom. She had a couple of appointments in there, but we went out to lunch and we did a little shopping. All in all it was a fun day. We don't get that nearly enough.

Today I'm headed to the nursing home to do hair cuts. It's cold and rainy but at least everyone is well and in good spirits :)

Eva - I LOVE the pictures - emoticon so much for sharing. Bug looks adorable and I think chocolate covered strawberries are the perfect background for football stitches.

Roads were clear this morning emoticon and while some additional emoticon is predicted for this afternoon and tomorrow, we will not have that underlying ice that comes as the weather changes. Hope to take the car in for a valve cover replacement and plan to wait until next week when I can walk back from the repair shop and not freeze...

JStetser: I don't have any books, but I know that mediation when I can not sleep usually helps me at least feel rested.

Kali: I hope the main roads opened up. I'm so tired of winter.

Sorry I have to take a proud Momma Moment or 2: Daddy Daughter Dance was on Saturday night. Here's my pretty girl looking way too grown up.

Yesterday was Superbowl Sunday. While I could care less about the game, she and I have fun with the food. Only girls do chocolate strawberries and call it football food. Mine piped the laces on out "footballs" yesterday.

Kim - glad to hear you are over the emoticon
Amazing the illness this year...
Eva - definitely have my emoticon may even know next week!

JSTETSER - I don't have any books, but I know I get so relaxed in the evening, that sometimes I fall asleep while meditating...

Light snow this morning made travel treacherous - glad the sun is out. Still frigid, but hopefully the bright light will help clear the main arteries.

I'm focusing on sleep right now. I'll be speaking at my meditation group about how I use both deep breathing and meditation to help me sleep at night. Meditation, NOT medication has made a big difference in my life.
Do you have any books to recommend on meditation and sleep?

Kali: Do you have your happy dance ready for when you get your date?

Kim: We have flu A and B going here, that stomach thing, I had the upper respiratory mess that's been going around not to mention people with just a pure old cold. I know one kid that has both flu strains at once! I didn't know you could get them both at the same time. Apparently is really rare. I've had my prayers with all the people that have been hospitalized. It's a scary thing to be sure.

Sickness is a huge issue is Florida too. We have a flu strain as well as an upper respiratory “thing” and a stomach bug all going around. I had a short bout with the stomach bug and feel grateful after seeing how sick some people have been. I woman I know was hospitalized for three days with the flu. Good grief!

Eva - I so agree about the 'bi-polar' weather - and the number of folks in Nebraska that are sick are huge...
The Daddy Daughter Dance sounds wonderful. I hope Bug does want to share the night with her dad.

emoticon Welcome to February! emoticon

Kim: The Daddy Daughter dance is a beautiful tradition. Our last year here will be in 8th grade, provided Bug wants to go that long. It's so sweet to see little girls dress up and feel so special with their dad.

Well the temps here are going to drop all day. This weather flopping back and forth is making everyone sick. I'll be glad when this bi-polar winter is over.
