Eva - glad you keep moving - I need to get myself more in that gear!
We have a neighborhood get-together for the 4th and visited the vet for some meds for one of the dogs...
Love your library!

Gail - glad the dentist visit went well and your weather sounds divine.

Work projects keeping me busy + looking forward to getting a drip irrigation system set up for the new trees.
Have a wonderful Thursday all!

Good Morning!

It's always good to have a dentist that wants your crowns, fillings, and dental devices to have a perfect fit. Sometimes there should be more perfectionism in the medical professionals in general.

Bug had a hoot yesterday. She got to shoot me with ping pong balls to demonstrate how kintetic energy works. Mr. Bond had a leaf blower modified with PVC pipe. All i can say, we have one cool library emoticon

Good Morning:

My trip to the dentist was fine, but he is anal about things and wants to add porcelain to the crown so that it fits better. Hey, I'm happy he's such a perfectionist. I had another crown some years ago and he sent it back because it wasn't right. No pain, so no worries. For me the worst thing about dental work is having them take bite wing X-rays. I'm a gagger big time. All in all I'm a happy camper. I'm 75 and have all my teeth. Not too shabby.

I'm going to a neighborhood picnic on the 4th. I'll say for a while to eat something and visit for a while and then I'll go home. The weather here as been perfect: 50s-60s at night and 70s-80s during the day. For the most part there's been low humidity.

Sending you all hugs and wishing you a fun-filled weekend.

Good morning!

Thank you both! I've really found that the less active I am the worse I feel. So I keep busy and play it by ear. When my body is having a really really rough day, I take it slower, but I don't stop moving. I find it best not to dwell on it as that causes anxiety and anxiety makes the condition worse. I figure the best attitude I can have is to control it and don't let it control me. I think that Kim does something similar by taking her Lyme treatment into her own hands.

My mother in law is a lovely lady but she doesn't like anything that results in long term treatment, that's any condition where she takes medication for more than 10 days. She she has and will opt for a surgery just to try to avoid dealing with any treatment method. It's just her way. Mine is different. I have to accept that. Your positive thoughts must have worked! my MIL was in a surprisingly good mood yesterday! She enjoyed talking to Bug about what we are doing this summer and her reading list.

Ms. Gail I hope your crown was a success. I love and hate the dentist. I love getting a cleaning, I hate hearing I need work done.

Kali I hope your co-worker accepted your apology.

Does anyone have plans for the weekend? We have an extended family get together on Saturday at Chickasaw park, and then a cook out and fireworks Sunday at my mother's house. Monday we will be home and if the weather is good we'll get to spend the day swimming with Bug and grilling our own selection of produce :)

Gail - your bridge game location and food sound wonderful...
Glad your crown work is soon to be over and I agree Eva is a wonder.

Eva - sending those positive thoughts! Difficult to try to help another and learn that what works for us doesn't work for another... Even my sis with many of the same genes doesn't 'care' for my suggestions. Gotta love her anyway.

Starting the day with an apology to a coworker - same as the healthy approach, I 'assume' since I know something, she 'should'. No meetings, so great opportunity to get much accomplished!

Good Morning:

Yesterday I finished another Magdelan Naab book, "Death in Autumn". Today I'll move on to her next book in the series, "The Marshal and the Murderer". These are short books that can be read in a day.

Going to the dentist this afternoon to get a crown. Glad this will be over with.

OMG Eva I didn't know you had fibromyalgia. You are indeed a wonder with all that you do. The fact that you are battling a chronic disease floors me. What an inspiration you are.

good Morning!

I have found that I hate waiting for the big "back to school sales." our classes start back on August 2nd (yes I said August 2nd). That means I have no intention of waiting. The last minute stuff I actually drive to Kentucky to buy. they start school later, so the crowds are less dense. I think All she needs now are a couple pair of shoes, 1 for gym and 1 for every day, and some bottoms, mostly pants as her shorts will still work.

Roberta I have grown a blind eye to pantry treats, but I have been known to practice avoidance.

Kali sounds like you had a busy weekend!

Today I'm to cut my MIL's hair. She's been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and uses the opportunity to ask me how I manage my own. I was diagnosed when Bug was 10-11 months old. She doesn't like that my main tool for management is has become my healthy living program on Spark. I'm one of the people that meds just don't really work for (some people they are a god send, for me I might as well take a candy button) So I've figured out how to manage pain without the meds. Anyway she doesn't want to begin a simple walking regimen (how I began and her doctor suggested). Or even a simple rise daily and close the bed room door, only returning at bed time. I don't know if it's overwhelming to her or if she's just being stubborn since she's refused meds without trying them. So I'm in for a about an hour and a half of pure frustration. Send good thoughts my way, please!

Wow, Eva and Kali sounds like you had a very full weekend. Yesterday I played bridge with the neighborhood group. We went to the cabin of one of the members. It was about a one hour drive. It was lovely. The cabin faces a lake...wonderful place to meditate. To round things out we combined the card playing with a potluck. It amazes me when people don't sign up for certain dishes and there is a good well rounded Selection. I brought a toss salad, one lady made deviled eggs, another made a tuna and bean salad, another brought watermelon, and so on.

Finished a good book this morning, CURIOSITY KILLED THE CAT SITTER, by Blaize Clement. Very light reading.

Peace to all

Carol's Mom. I agree, it is best not to test our willpower. Avoidance of temptations is a better solution for me.

Eva - sounds like a productive and thrifty weekend! So cool to check off clothes purchases instead of being involved in the last minute crush...
Roberta - here's to ReCommitment! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good weekend - Not enough iron to give blood, but cool enough Saturday to work in the yard. Most of the front is weeded and sprinkler system realigned to water new tree.
Sunday was emoticon in the morning and relaxing in the afternoon.

New diet word: "Recommitment." Don't bring home the "avoid" foods to test your willpower. Willpower will lose. Have a successful and enjoyable day.

Good Morning!

Ms. Gail you made me snort this morning! emoticon My great maternal grandfather was a Baptist minister. I have a special appreciation (and a fairly large inventory) for good preacher jokes.

Thank you about the hair. Bug asked that I put her hair up in a bun. That's not uncommon in the summer because it's so hot here. Thursday, when we did the hair, the heat index was 114. We remembered crazy hair day about an hour before time to leave and she didn't want to give up her bun. So we came up with it together. She looked for a stuffed bird but couldn't find one small enough, so I made her one. She'll tell you the second best thing about me is I'm pretty good at making something out of nothing.

I did venture out to the farmer's market and netted myself a "variety pack" new potatoes, squash, tomatoes, zucchini, bell pepper, and cucumbers. All that for a whopping $8. I also ended up buying some carrots and a box of fairytale egg plant. I've never cooked fairy tale eggplant so this should be interesting. The vendor told me to slice it log ways and broil it in the oven until it's crisp on the edges. Then Saturday afternoon we went to see Finding Dory. It's cute! If you have watched Finding Nemo you know Dory is a bit forgetful and a little kooky. This explains how she got to be wandering when Marlin, Nemo's dad, found her.

Also we took Bug shopping at her favorite store in the mall. They were having a $9.99 and under sale. She ended up with 8 shirts, a new light weight dress jacket (originally $40, got it for 9.99), and a skirt for $73. Not bad for new clothes for the school year. I have to hit sales when I find them.

We are getting RAIN!!! I hear the thunder that's going with it, but I am SOOOO happy to see this rain.

Eva: Adorable. Whose idea?

Thought i'd share a cute joke.

A minister is walking down the street one day when he notices a very small boy trying to press a doorbell on a house across the street. However, the boy is very small and the doorbell is too high for him to reach.
After watching the boys efforts for some time, the minister moves closer to the boy's position, and gives the doorbell a solid ring.
Crouching down to the child's level, the minister smiles benevolently and asks, "And now what, my little man?" To which the boy replies, "Now we run!"

Kali I'm glad you had fun. There's a lot to be said for dead last. You have no where to go but up!

Gail - glad to report we retained our 'dead ass last' (as my partner calls it) position - but we scored less than 100!
Hope you got your nails painted.

Eva - glad you are watching your salt. It definitely is a summer time trigger in my family. I remember the only time my mother would have a beer was on a summer deck and salted...
Thanks for the mutt muff links - will look into them.
Kim - your upcoming vacation sounds wonderful and I am so emoticon you are letting your life flow.

Great day yesterday and awoke to cool temps - hope to get a walk in later!

Good morning!!

Kim have you thought about getting your dog "Mutt Muffs"? www.safeandsoundpets.com/index.html they cancel the noise of stuff like fireworks. I hope you enjoy your trip!

Ms. Gail did you make it for a pedicure?

My neighbors are walking distance from my house, I can get there in about 2 minutes or less, but we can't see in each other's windows. That can't be said for the developments across the highway. You can literally see in each other's front doors the houses are so close. We have just shy of 4 acres of property, most of their lots at 3/4 of an acre or less.

When I was a kid/teenager we lived on a very small farm, at the end of a road that 911 had yet to map. I loved the quiet and the space. My closest neighbor was about 1/2 mile down the road and my driveway was just over 1/8th of a mile long. Sometimes I miss it, mostly because I spent my hot summers exploring the thicket that separated our property from the next house. We had a creek down there, and I was bad to haul water and lunch so I could sit with a notebook and write or read half the day. That's after morning chores were finished of course. It was something to do besides sit in the house. Anyway, Mom sold the property in early 1998, when I was starting to make plans for college. She found us a house that was on what I call a postage stamp lot. The neighbors could see in your front door. What we have now is a nice in-between. Living in both extremes I can appreciate it. I'm working on clearing the underbrush so that Bug can explore our woods, and I have neighbors close enough that if we had an emergency we could get help. Balance :)

Cloudy with light rain...just righ to. Water the lawn and plants. I was going to go for a pedicure today bit we'll see. For awhile now I haven't been able to reach my toes to cut my nails. They have a service here once a month, but it's al it's as much as the nail salon and the salon is closer and more convenient. Besides, I get to have my nails painted. LOL

Many of the books I've been reading lately have been very heavy, so I decided to read something light with a new author. Hope I get a few laughs.

G.

Kali. Like Eva, I'm not good at sports. Truth be told, you wouldn't want me on your team. I'm hopeless.

Kim. We have a parade and picnic but no fireworks. As for your vacation, have a wonderful time. I haven't gone anywhere since 2014, for now that my home has been renovated I feel like I'm on.a perpetual vacation. Recently I've been pipe dreaming about Italy, but when I think of the travel complications and hassles I set such thoughts aside.

Eva. Do you feel isolated out in the country's? I love my privacy but wouldn't care to be too far from help should I need it. I can recall going through areas of the USA where there was a mile or more between hoses. That's a bit too much for me.

Good Afternoon Team!

Kali - I tried golf a few times but my father is very good and very competitive so it was not so fun to play with him. I have considered taking it up again for the fun but the opportunity hasn't presented itself just yet. Enjoy your tournament!

Gail - your block party sounds fun. My dog is a complete basket case with thunderstorms and fireworks that I think I am resigned to turning the TV up and comforting him. I don't know what else to do

Another busy week but as busy as it seems like it is going to be each morning, I find that if I just allow the day to unfold naturally that I manage to accomplish everything that needs to be done. I love that the universe has allowed this learning to take hold.

I did some laundry last night and am starting to put a few things aside for my trip up to Virginia next week. We have rented a house on a great big lake - and by "we" I mean my parents, 2 siblings, their spouses and children. As well as the oldest niece's fiancé. It should be quite a large gathering and I am looking forward to it. My dog and I will leave Friday night and drive for a few hours. Then finish the drive up on Saturday.

Good moring!

Thank you both about Bug's photo. She has an eye for light and she has the patience to get the shot. Much better than me. She chose her location in the side yard. She did very well. And yes I had my hands full. I'm just grateful my reflexes we on point!

Ms. Gail I hope you enjoy the block party. I wish we did more of that kind of thing. But we don't exactly live on a block. We have a few neighbors but we are on the outskirts of the city limits. When we bought the house it was actually in the county. Oddly I'm actually glad there's no room for development here.

Kali good luck in your tournament! I can't wait to hear how you fair! I never have been much of an athlete, but I've always had fun trying. I figure if you had fun you won.

I've got to cut back on my salt intake. I crave the stuff int he summer time. I'm guessing it's my body's way of telling me to keep my electrolytes in balance. Anyway I've been consuming too much. So I'm going to make it a goal to start watching my sodium.

Kim - wonderful weekend! So glad you were able to fill it with friends and loved ones.
Gail - do I hear a emoticon in your future? Love your Timebank and that you'll attend the neighborhood celebration. We live on a cul-de-sac and gather for food, fun and emoticon The dogs tolerate a little of it, but it is still great we can go check on them.

Eva - what a fun shot and I love the light and dark on both the gerbil and tree. An artist in the making! My guess is the assistant had her 'hands full'?
emoticon
I am (finally) adjusting to the weather - we were so blessed to have a long, cool spring before the 'hammer fell'.
Member-member emoticon tournament tomorrow, so I most likely won't post as it's an all day event, but if we do as well as last year we'll take last place again!

Great shot, Eva.

It's another beautiful day. WOO HOO!

Just got an invite to the neighborhood 4th of July picnic. Think I'll go. It's an opportunity to see some more of my neighbors. Are you guys doing anything special for the 4th? It's a Monday this year. Nice; it makes for a long weekend.

Having a very nice lady from the Timebank come on Friday to deadhead my flowers and do a bit of weeding and shrub trimming.

Hugs to all.

Good Morning

Kali it sounds like you had an excellent weekend. I hope your blueberries make it!

Kim it's always fun to help a furbaby settle into it's furever home. I believe a pet can tell, seriously tell that they have been rescued.

Ms Gail she wasn't overly disappointed on Sunday. She enjoys the Safari park, particularly "Those crazy birds." Most people are freaked out by the ostrich and emu they have. I think it's the shear size of the birds turn people off. Emu are just not pretty birds, but they have a funky personality in a place like that, where they aren't always looking for the next meal, and can give you a good laugh if you let them. A beautiful male ostrich likes to play peek a boo with the camera, but I suppose it popping it's head in and out could scare some people. It's not aggressive, it's just looking in, when it sees you raise a camera it pops back out.

Yesterday we made blackberry lemonade and we convinced Stripes to cooperate! So my job as Bug's photography assistant was to make sure the gerbil stayed on the tree. They are climbers by nature, quick, and very curious. Keeping him in reach of her camera was a bit of a challenge.

Kim: Most everyone I know who has a dog has a rescue dog. If I were to get a dog I'd get one from the pound or a specific breed rescue outfit.

G.

Kali: Thanks for the website.

Eva: Sorry to hear that the photos of the gerbils never happened. Was Bug very disappointed?
BTW, your berries sound great. Mmmmm

Becky: How are you doing? You are in TX, aren't you. Take care and keep hydrated.

A friend of mine is part of a Wheaten Terrier rescue organization. On Saturday, she asked me to drive with her up to Orlando to pick up a dog who is being adopted, but needed to be brought over from Pensacola. They are so organized that they have drivers for every 100 miles or so of the trip and then meet and pass the dog on to the next driver. We were the last leg and got to deliver the dog to her now parents. It was a fun way to spend they day and catch up with a friend while also saving a dog and bringing joy to her new family. We were going to drive by the memorial in front of Pulse in Orlando but decided it might be best to stay clear of it.

Saturday evening I had dinner with my boyfriend and his daughter. Then breakfast with them as well as BF's father, brother and SIL. Very nice weekend in deed!

Bummer about the gerbil - 3rd times the charm? Be sure you stay cool and love that the pup gets ice cream. (We bought the polar pooches and both dogs have used them)

It emoticon Friday night and the two inches alone was a godsend. Temperatures dropped 10 degrees, so the weekend was in the high 80s. We were able to get quite a bit of weeding out of the way, transplant some blueberries that might be on their last leg (did not like overwintering in the greenhouse) and put down the crabgrass preventer. After fighting the weed for 2 summers, I am almost obsessed with its demise in our yard...
Sunday we played the new executive course in the morning - kids were out with their dads, so we were wedged between two groups for a little while, but then all spread out. It was fun to work on the short game and the greens were shaggy, so no worry about putts going off the green.

Good Morning!

Kali how was the weekend of yard work?

Ms. Gail we do have A/C but the dog is hot natured and is not indoors full time. Usually in extreme heat and extreme cold. She's a good house dog, she's potty trained, but she prefers the grass and I can't blame her. So the polar pooch is a way to help cool her down when it's not dangerous. She also gets iced water twice per day and a cup of ice cream if it's very hot. I have in the past given her a wading pool but she won't use it.

Stay safe as it heats up. By Sunday we are in for 100 degree actual temps here in west Tn. It's going to be a HOT. But I live in the south so what can I expect?

The gerbil picture did not happen. We ended up at the Safari Park yesterday instead. Bug tried to get a picture of an Ostrich that kept sticking it's head in our window but when it saw the camera it would nip out. Camera shy or just playing, I'm not sure but it made for a good laugh anyway. So we will try the gerbil picture again. It's not due until July 7th.

I'm pleased with my blackberry crop this year. I've 7 quarts of berries in my freezer, plus the one's we've just eaten or shared with neighbors. I have bushes that are still loaded. I'm so excited :)

Good Morning:

My heart goes out to those who have horrible heat, floods, wildfires, and other disasters. They keep coming, don't they, one after another? The weather here is hot (upper 80s) but that's nothing compared to what some of you are experiencing. My AC goes on from time to time, but not that much. I have great insulation, special window shades throughout the house (keep heat in in winter and cool in in summer), shade trees on the south side of the house, and a very efficient AC that I got a year or two ago. I've been reading out on my screened porch which is on the north side of the house. When it gets too hot I come in.

I bought a tomato plant at the farmer's market last week and put it in a big pot. It was doing great and grew like crazy this past week. Late yesterday afternoon I took a look at it and the leafs were lacy. I think some bugs have gotten to it and I'm siappointed.. The tomato plant is a Rose Berne, my very favorite variety. Do any of you have a remedy? I might take a leaf off and bring it to the local nursery to see what they recommend.

Going out with the family today to celebrate Father's Day. My son-in-law will be the only father there, but that's fine. His mom, his wife and I will be there too. I'm not sure if my granddaughter is coming in from Chicago.

All of you stay safe and keep hydrated.

Gail

Eva - ADD? emoticon Would love to see a photo and wish you both success.
I like the idea of a polar pooch - will look into it.

Gail - your luncheon and reading sound wonderful!

We're going to 'attack' some long overdue yardwork first thing Saturday (while it's still tolerable) and hoping for some early morning golf Sunday. The ground is basically concrete, so I'm tempted to "Round Up" the outer beds and then cover the weeds with grass clippings. Also hopping to put down some top soil on some yard holes. Too hot to seed, but @ least the adjacent grass won't be clipped to short...

Kali: What are your plans for the weekend?

Eva: I'm confident Bug will get some snaps of the gerbil. As for that mat, I'm sure your dog will love it. Do you have AC? The heat index you spoke of is dangerous.

Kime: I believe prayer and good thoughts are appropriate anywhere. You did right by staying home.

I finished A BANQUET OF CONSEQUENCES by Elizabeth George, the last book so far in the Linley series. Right now I'm reading Michele Giuttari's DEATH UNDER A TUSCAN SUN, and Adler-Olsen'sTHE ABSENT ONE.

I invited my neighbor for lunch yesterday. We had Italian sandwiches ( roasted red peppers, roasted eggplant, and melted provalone), grape tomatoes, and Kalamata olives. We also had somebody Prosecco. Good lunch, and great company.

Good Morning!

Kali Our heat index yesterday reached 110 degrees. It was too hot to breath. It looks like a cold front is moving in and sweeping the humidity with it. Stay safe and hydrated. It's always scary when it gets this hot.

My friend thinks I'm nuts but I bought the dog a "Polar pooch." It's a gel mat that helps reduce the dog's body temp when he or she lays on it. It's good indoors or out. Mine was about $20. I figure if I need a cold rag in the shade so does the dog.

Gerbil photography is not as easy as it sounds. Gerbils are somewhat ADD so it seems. We will try again this weekend. If she gets a good shot I'll share it.

Good Morning!

Ms. Gail -- Trump scares me too. The 4 bankruptcies I know about allowed him to drop the businesses somewhat unscathed, and that's what I mean by working the system.

I took Bug to the library yesterday. Turns out that I saw the guy doing the show when he opened for the Dixie Stampede. That was on my honeymoon! It was a nice nostalgic moment. And now I have a similar one with my Bug :)

The library holds photography and art contest, among a few others. Bug asked if we could work on her entries today. She wants to set up a "shoot" with our gerbils. And I get to be the photography assistant. LOL I think she's been listening to my photography friend talk about prepping for portraits. emoticon

Kali - its funny that you used that quote. I was in a discussion yesterday and one of the women cited the exact quote. It was the perfect thing to hear then and again when I read it today. Funny how the universe provided exactly what you need emoticon

I was going to go to a tribute service in honor of the victims of the Orlando attack tonight, but I think I am going to stay home instead and perhaps offer up a prayer from here. It is well into the 90's here and I don't think I could stand it too long. That ---- and to be honest, I am afraid that it might get political (right or left, I don't care. I don't want to hear it.)

Eva: While Trump certainly has had his successes, he's also had several business failures that have resulted in business bankruptcy. His campaign scares me because it is not unlike the rhetoric and policies that Hitler proposed at the onset of his career. Sadly, there are so many who agree with his policies of exclusion.

Kali: Beautiful deck. You must be so proud.

Becky: emoticon on the revised diet, weight loss and exercise.

I just finished the last book in Elizabeth George's Lynley series. There were a few things at the end that were very profound. One of the characters realizes that we often wish to change somebody so they will be what we want them to be. But, it's their past that makes them what they are and we cannot change a person's past. Food for thought.

Good Morning

And congrats Becky on your loss! emoticon Will you celebrate with a green smoothie?

Kali the deck is beautiful!

We like Bad Kitty. She's not really all that bad, most of the time. And I too wish for more grass roots campaigns. Successful ones. Sad thing is, I'm not really worried about Trump being able to run the country(no doubt he's a successful businessman that knows how to work the system), so much as I'm worried about his inability to bite his tongue.

Good news yesterday. We don't have to test for allergens until Bug starts for the 6th grade. The doctor made a note that for the next 2 years we can just see the nurse to pick up prescriptions provided there's no new developments to report. The tests are painful so it's a relief she doesn't have to deal with it for a while.

Today is the library and street magician Barry Mitchell. And hopefully a walk.

Kim and Gail - the only thing I can be thankful for is that history does indeed repeat itself - I can remember my folks talking about how frightening it was to wonder if 'Haberdasher Harry' Truman would fail @ being president and their complete amazement that we'd elect an actor (they both grew up in Iowa and knew Reagan). If I believe all works for the best, I guess I need to believe it now...

Eva - so glad Bug didn't have to use the Epi-pen and Bad Kitty (love the name) is teaching about grass roots campaigning. (I know I would like to see a little more of that...)

As promised - here is the almost completed (as if there is such a thing) deck!

We're in for some emoticon today (we hope), so it may be a while before we enjoy.

Good Morning!

Kim I almost agree

Ms. Gail I do agree. You are right we do need reform on campaign finance. Right along with a lot of other stuff, but it probably won't happen because the people that create the laws will likely see it as cutting off their own nose.

By the way Bad Kitty for President actually helps teach kids the election process and helps them sort through the terms they hear on the news. It's interesting as it takes on a Bernie Sanders situation where you run a grass roots campaign. It's not a bad little book.

Bug goes to the allergist today. I get to report another year of not having a reaction and having to use an Epi-pen. That makes me a proud momma. At least we don't have allergy testing today. Just a check in, prescription renewal, and getting forms for the school.

It says a lot about our country when our choice is a billionaire or a millionaire. What we need is campaign finance reform, and we need it badly. For me, I see only one practical possibility this time round. though I too wish there was someone else.

Gail - emoticon We used to wear hats much more in KY than in NE...

Kate - sounds like book shopping is definitely on your to-do list! Glad your weather is better.
Eva - I'd emoticon @ your Bad Kitty if it wasn't so sad - DH is currently going to write in Captain Obvious... I too am tired of the rhetoric, but I can only trust a choice (for me @ least) will emerge.

Another productive weekend and I will post some pictures of the 'completed' deck - still touch up work, but we are both giving ourselves a much deserved break...

Good Morning!

Ms. Gail I remember when Pavarotti passed, but I know very little about his personal history. I have heard him sing a few times.

I do enjoy what I do for my Bug. I believe anything you do is worth doing well and part of my job is to educate my kiddo in ways that she'll never get in a classroom. And have fun while we do it.

Kali I love the hat! How did the deck staining go?

You'd be surprised at the "useless" information i have in my head. When I was a kid my mom worked nights so during the summer I had a lot of time to entertain myself. I read a lot. One summer I read the encyclopedia set because i literally ran out of something to read. I couldn't drive yet, and Mom wasn't awake during library hours so I worked with what I had. I don't have a photographically memory but I retain most things I read. That's how I came about knowing the origins of sports, being a bored 13 year old kid.

Kate I'm sorry about your favorite book store. I know your pain :(

I'm so not ready for the election. I don't feel like we have a good candidate. People will always have trust issues with Hillary and Trump, well he shoots his mouth off to much and that will be terrible for foreign policy. I'm not saying either of them wouldn't be able to do the job, but...

So I'm advertising my vote for Kitty

"Kate - hope your hot weather passes as quickly as the primaries will! "

LOL Kali Girl! Thank goodness the primaries are over, but that's not much of a relief as we've all swung into the shots-across-the bow between Clinton & Trump prior to their respective nominating conventions. I don't know about anybody else, but I'm SO tired of it all! It's not going to change anyone's mind, & it's so intrusive! And it's only going to get worse as the election get nearer.
emoticon

The better news is that it is cooler! The Delta breezes have been in for several days now, so it's 70s-80s and SOOO nice! Don't need the AC & can keep the windows open all day long! If only the whole summer would be like this! Hope everybody else is enjoying lovely weather!

The worse news is that my beloved used book store is changing format & will now be more of a warehouse/mail order format. No wandering in & browsing through the shelves. What's really bad is that I have $150 in credit that I have to use up by the end of the month or lose.
emoticon
I'm going to be busy for the nxt 2 weeks!

Kim - bummer about your iPad - we've definitely found apple insurance pays for itself...

Eva - I can see myself as a red and purple hat lady - wait I already have the hat!

I, for one, did not know the origin of sport, but I do remember the scene from the 1940 Knute Rockney movie where he testifies before congress that American young men have football while the rest of the world has wars...

Gail - glad you have resisted temptation, we've been Blizzard fans ever since the product was introduced and we ordered one in Appalachia. The server turned them over to our astonished faces and smiled as she said, "Thick ain't it."

emoticon wave continues and weather people have varying opinions on when (and how) we'll get a break. DH called and is planning on brightening the deck this morning (too hot last night), so we may be able to stain sometime this weekend yet!

Kim: You may be able to have that IPad repaired. Good luck. Otherwise, might you consider getting a used one?

Kali: DQ just never turned me on. I'm only interested in chocolate custard. There is a Culver's that was recently built in my area. Thankfully, I've resisted temptation and have only been their twice. They also make great burgers and other fattening foods. It's good that I've kept away. Hope it lasts through the warm weather. In the winter I hibernate so it's less of a distraction.

Eva: I can't begin to tell you how great I think it is that you do so much with and for Bug. The best part of it all is that you love what you are doing. So much to be said for that. Many people go through life in misery doing "what they have to" and dreading most of it.

Last night I was listening to some things on U Tube, which included conversations with Luciano Pavarotti, the famous opera tenor who died of cancer a few years back. I had listened to some serious conversations he had had with interviewers in the past, but these were so funny...real belly laughs. He had a great sense of humor and was very charming, despite the fact that he looked like Bluto, Popeye's rival. With all his talents and likable personality, he wasn't without his human foibles. He divorced his first wife of 30 some odd years who helped him build his career, and married his assistant who was younger than any of his daughters. For a long time I couldn't bring myself to listen to his music.

Good morning!

Kali I imagine you'll be what we call the "red and purple hat ladies." They are a group of retired women that go out in the community and volunteer. Many of them hold activities at libraries and nursing homes. They work in community flower beds, run the soup kitchens, hold fundraisers, and work community events. They vacation as a group once per year, but I get the idea it's a week long plotting session of what they intend to do next year. You'll stay busy :)

Kim I bought our house a refurbished iPad mini (yep we share 1) from the apple store's website. It was a little less than half price of a new one and came with the same warranties, if you decide to replace it.

Yesterday we went to Snoo Science (A friend of mine is "Snoo") and learned the history of sports and the science behind the creation of sports. She brought in a replica shrunken head that was used as a ball by ancient Aztecs and Mayans. When she explained what we use in their place now and how sports were actually ways to work out conflicts without an all out tribal war (I personally already knew this but I'm not surprised many did not) the momma's were rethinking their obsession with soccer and baseball. You could see it in their faces. Bug's reaction: "No wonder I don't like sports. I don't like wars." Me either kiddo. Me either.

We are all a little weird in our own ways! A friend of mine use to always say "Let your Freak Flag Fly ...... that way the other freaks can find you."

Electronics may be very forgiving and hard to break - but I learned this week that an Apple Ipad is not indestructible when the cat knocks it off the dresser. I am currently only seeing a gray line moving over a black screen. I hope that the repair place can do something about it. I like having it but I don't think I would invest in another one.

Eva - if you are 'weird' take me along! I too love the 3D world and often don't touch my phone or computer over the weekend (probably because I have too much catch up work to do...) Makes me wonder what retirement will be like...

Attended a bank appreciation/shred event last night and savored Parker's pulled pork. Of course had to stop @ DQ on the way home (Siri directed us that way) and found out a mini Heath blizzard is 347 calories

Good Morning!

Ms. Gail don't be afraid of your gadgets. They are not nearly as easy to break as you might think. And not that complicated either. And if you do happen to break it, it's no worse than it lying in a drawer unused. I watched the video Kali linked and it will be a good easy place to start. There's no shame in letting your husband deal with the electronics when he was here. he enjoyed gadgets, so I'm guessing, and you strike me as a lady who uses what she finds useful but other than that it falls to the wayside. I'm very much like that myself. Think of learning the house electronics as a way to exercise your brain and keep you sharp. It'll be good for you. :)

Kali I hope you enjoyed your down time from the deck. I know you are ready to enjoy your summer nights instead of laboring your way through them.

Thank you for including me in that circle. It's a fine place to be :) I warn you, I'm a weird one. Well maybe not weird, just engaged. A friend sent me this last night. It makes me think of those of us that are engaged in our real lives and not in just the digital ones.

Eva - I love how you are living life to the fullest and taking your family along for the 'ride'.
Sharing your days brings a smile to my face and reminds me to search for younger women to expand my circles.

Gail - difficult to start from a position of fear, but I know you can do it. Just look what you did without instructions with your macchinetta.

Eva: I've thought of that and, I'm ashamed to say, I have an iPod. It was my husband's and was hardly used. The thing of it is I don't know how to use it and even the thought of touching it scares me. I'm always afraid I'm going to break something. I've got to get up the courage to tackle it either by myself or to have someone show me what to do. Very unfortunately, my husband used to take care of all things electronic...all things... and told me not to touch. He was afraid I would break or ruin some piece of equipment. To this day I do not know how to use a DVD player. Sadly, I didn't put my foot down and dismiss his warnings. I'm very intimidated. I never even opened our manual garage door until he was deathly ill.

That said, I've slowly been making progress. A few days ago I made coffee in a stove top macchinetta...an Italian coffee maker.. without instructions. I later found instructions on the net and will follow them in the future.

Good Morning!

Ms. Gail can I make an new school suggestion? If you don't have one, maybe you would benefit from an ipod/mp3 player. You might can transfer your music to a digital copy (or purchase some of it as a digital copy) and listen to it while you walk. It's not ideal. I know the quality and the feel will be different, but depending on what piece you choose it could set the pace for your walk.

Kali it sounds like you are in the home stretch of that deck re-finishing. May the weather cooperate with you.

And you picture me just about right. I'm a semi-old school parent. It's not safe to let kids roam and explore like they did in the 70's and 80's but kids need the experiance, so I roam with her. I was born in 1980. Sadly it's my generation that screwed up the begin free to roam. I'm one of the ones that's lived in both the digital and pre-digital age as a kid. So I can appreciate what my kid would miss if I wasn't out there with her.

Today is the magician at the library. If you've never heard of the Pro-Kids show or Scott Humston I suggest you take a look. He's great fun for kids and adults, but he teaches courage, respect, and responsibility with his show.

This afternoon we get to cut the grass. My step-dad had a broken riding mower that he wanted moved so Jim brought it here. Last night he fixed it , and replaced an ignition coil on our original riding mower. The cost of repairing both mowers? A whopping $138. So now we have 2 mowers. That means we can get the grass cut in half the time and have more family time! I'm up for anything that cuts my chore time in half.

Saturday we plan to take Bug to the Birdsong Drive In Theater. It's a special treat as it's one of the few times she gets to stay up REALLY late. birdsongdrive-in.com/

Kim - so glad you are seeing the Lyme specialist. I agree, the positive attitude trumps all the meds in the world, but it sounds like the treatment is working.
emoticon
Eva - I picture you as entertaining, teaching, and loving mother who emoticon

Glad you mom is there for some respite.

Gail - will check out your SIL's website. Alaska is definitely on our bucket list. We're investigating a land trip there and then small ship cruise. If the Hawaii vacation is all we hope, we may book with the same company!
We missed our farmer's market with deck work - but your goodies make me more resolute to go next week!
Bummer about your not walking - I'm a poster child for 'use it or lose it' as my strength training is non-existent. I can relate to the resistance (big time), but hope you can treat walking as a meditation and instead of RPM (rise, pee, meditate), you can RPW?

Kate - hope your hot weather passes as quickly as the primaries will!

3 days of deck work (sounding like a broken record?)
Good news is major sanding is finished and only some hand sanding remains.
Depending on what we finish tonight, we'll apply brightener (best if cool and in the shade) and then stain in a few days (24-48 hours). Final step is wood filler and touch up stain.
So deck will be finished in time for the emoticon emoticon emoticon

There is something I've been in a funk about for months and months. I am healthy and have no mobility problems. Yet, I can't seem to get myself out to exercise (walk) except when I go to run errands. That's awful. I'm so content sitting and reading and listening to beautiful music. When it's very nice outside i sit on my screened porch. This sedentary life style is very bad for me and I know it. What am I waiting for, the time when I won't be able to do anything?

Good Morning!

Ms. Gail I enjoyed your son-in-laws work! I plan to call my Bug in here to take a look. I think she will enjoy it as well.

Kim I guess sometimes you have to get worse to get better. It's something my grandmother use to say. I hope you Lyme levels begin to drop soon.

I don't know much about sting therapy but I do know it's also being used for some RA patience with a great deal of success. Enjoy your research. I'll keep you in my prayers.

Today we are off to the dentist to get Bug's teeth sealed. Have a good day!

Due to the impending landfall of Tropical Storm Colin, I did my appointment today with the Lyme specialist via telephone instead of in person. I was afraid to drive the 3+ hours each way if the weather turned bad. It turns out the weather help off and I could have easily made the trip. But I must admit, I enjoyed a day without deadlines. I got a lot done but with none of the stress.

My last C4A test results showed an increase in my Lyme load from 1600 to over 7500. My doctors said this is very normal for patients in early treatment because prior to treatment, the immune system has often given up and isn't even fighting the disease anymore - and therefore not producing the "thing" that the test is checking for. I have to admit, I forgot what it was that the test was testing for. So it is my understanding that a sharp increase in the C4 level is common - and also explains why I am feeling worse in many ways. She expects the numbers to start to fall regularly over the next several months as I progress through the medication protocol. She was actually pleased with my improvement in some other areas and feels I am having a good reaction thus far. My Vitamin D levels are still low even after high dose supplements over the last month. I will continue with that and see. I guess time will tell. I have restests done in mid July and another appointment with her in early August.

I did not discuss the bee venom treatments with her at this point. I am a little apprehensive about getting stung so I want to see how this protocol goes before I go any further. I will still do some research on my end. I believe they are using old honey bees. I haven't figured out how they know they are old bees or how they go about getting old one. Lots of research still to be done.

Gail - I enjoyed our son in law's artwork. The landscapes are so different from anything if Florida. It was very interesting to see and he is quite talented.

Good Morning!

Kim what type of bees are used in sting therapy?

Ms. Gail I've never cooked much with rhubarb. Do you add strawberries to you tart? I'm going to look at your son in law's page. I'll probably share it with Bug as she loves new to her artists. I've got to get her to an art gallery soon. She's been asking. We have the Frist and the Cheekwood in Nashville. I'd take her to Memphis, but between the measles outbreak(they had 6 confirmed cases last month. Bug is vaccinated but still.... ) and the recent violence I'm very hesitant.

We had a productive weekend. My mom asked Bug to stay over on Friday and for us to come to dinner on Saturday. Jim and I finished the shopping Friday evening. We're such wild ones.

Today the central a/c unit is being cleaned and serviced for the summer. Tomorrow I take Brenna to have her teeth sealed, Wednesday and Thursday we go to the library for programs. It's going to be a busy week! emoticon So much for lazy summer days!

It's emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon here! Has been for the last 5 days, & heat wave continuing through to the end of the week, when it will "cool down" to the high 80s for 2 days before bouncing back up to the high 90s & above! emoticon I think it's goig to be a long, HOT summer! emoticon

And if that wasn't punishment enough, Tuesday is the presidential primary here in California, so that's just everywhere. I'm so tired of it all! I wish it could be November (so it would cool down) & so we could just vote & get it over & done with!

Good Morning:

Went to the farmer's market yesterday and got some Tuscan kale, red leaf lettuce and a flat leaf parsley plant. Hadn't gone since last summer. Should probably go every week. I'll always find something healthy to buy.

It's supposed to rain today. We've had great weather : cool at night and in the 70s-80 in the afternoon. Yesterday it was drizzling in the morning but sunny and glorious later on.

Got some rhubarb from a neighbor. Will try a new recipe. The recipe is for a French rhubarb tart. I'll just make the filling.

wishing you all a happy Sunday.

Gail. So far the bee venom is the most unusual treatment I have researched. I would need to buy a hive of bees and have them sting me along my spine .....working up to ten stings per treatment. I think the treatments are three days a week. That sounds pretty extreme to me but despite quite severe herx reactions, most people appear to be improving dramatically after a number of months.

I am currently on a regiment of herbal and rx medications but I am afraid of the side affects of long term antibiotic use. I am also doing bi weekly colonics to help with detox. I see an acupuncture physician fairly regularly. And I believe positive attitude and meditation also help.

I will pill up you SIL's website. I love art and enjoy new (to me) artists.

Kali: Have you thought of a cruise to Alaska...the inside passage? Vic and I did that for our 30th wedding anniversary and it was amazing.

Kim: Hope the bee venom works for you. Anything else you're considering that's out of the ordinary?

Eva: I think it's great that you are doing so much with Bug, and it's even greater that you enjoy her and all the things you do together. You are giving her times that will turn in to wonderful memories when she gets older.

Just wanted to share something with you. I may have mentioned my son-in-law is an artist. If any of you have interest, his website is reedmichaeljones.com. Some of his works are posted.

Good Morning!

Kim I've head some cool things about bee venom therapy. RA treatments and such. I look forward to hearing what your doctor says about them.

Kali good luck with the pressure washer. A slightly corrosive cleanser (think like for a car) might help pull it off.

We always stay busy. Worst thing I can do for my kid is let her brain be idle. For some kids it might be okay, but mine is happiest when she moving and learning. Bug being an only child I have a special balance in the summer of being entertainer and being mother. So I try to find a good way to do both in 1 shot. If that means exercising to kids videos (it's a lot of dancing to silly songs but the moves are made to target muscles. Think Zumba but the music is geared to kids) then so be it.

Happy June to everyone! I am so excited with the new month. Have been enjoying the swimming pool for several weeks already.

I see the Lyme specialist on Monday. I have printed out some information on Bee Venom Treatments which is showing a lot of promising results. I am not sold on it as yet but I want to have her take a look at the research and see what she thinks. It is nice to have options.

On the home base - more deck work. Going to try the power washer on the paint between the boards and if that doesn't work it's staying until the years wear it off!

Good Morning!

Ms. Gail How lucky you are not to have to re plant a bush or tree to cover your utility posts. We don't have any in our yard but i agree they are not pretty. I've noticed our companies putting central heating and air unit covers around ours. It looks very much like a little white fence. It's resin, but it at least keeps kids from messing with them and we don't have large grey posts everywhere.

Yesterday was the first summer program at the library. It was nice. PBS's education director came out and talked to the kids about keeping engaged in learning all summer, she gave out some activity books and tablet app codes to get free apps and they met a couple characters from a kids PBS show, Peg + Cat. It's an actual cat that helps his friend Peg solve problems when she freaks out. We always check out books. Usually Bug just wanders the shelves until she finds something she likes. Yesterday she went in the purpose and she asked the librarian to help her find books on Gerbils. They don't have a card catalog available to kids or I'd have helped her find it myself. They one for adults was in use. Anyway they helped her find her books and I was really proud of her for telling the aid on duty what she needed and her manners when he helped her find what she was looking for.

It's raining here today. Thunderstorms so it's no good to play in. That means Gonoodle.com (indoor recess/exercise for kids), a science experiment, reading time, a craft project and maybe a documentary. Yep My kiddo loves a good nature documentary. We have Hulu, Amazon prime, and Netflix if you have any educational documentary suggestions for an 8 year old I'm all ears.

June has come in here in all its sunny glory....was able to get out today to work in the yard. Looking forward to the coming summer and all it brings with it.

Hi all, school finishes on Friday for the kids and I expect to take about two weeks to store my classroom away. I will then be back and on my summer schedule. These last few weeks have been really hard.

Happy June All!

I copied Gail's post on the May chat for your reading enjoyment here:
"Good Morning:

It's hard to believe that June is here already. Our weather has been very mild but the last few days we've had rain. Nothing like the rain in Texas, but enough so that the lawns look like putting greens.

In our area we have all our utility lines underground. That said, there are three small grey towers that are above ground. I have planted something so that I don't see them when I look outside. Well, the bush I planted in front of them took a hit a couple of years ago when we had a very cold winter. I had a small ash tree...a volunteer...but of course that didn't hide anything. I had the ash taken down, but the guy never came to grind the stump. Last year shoots emerged from around the stump and it looked like a small bush. This year, with all the rain, it has grown so much that it now hides the utility towers. I don't like things too big so I'll have to trim it. LOL

Hoping to get some exercise...any exercise... in this month.

G."
