Leslie - emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon on the SUPER news! I am thrilled that Chris' results were clear. Definitely answered prayers.
And I have to admit I'm emoticon (jealous) about your yoga retreat... Seriously, how wonderful for you.

Our Early Birds discussion was about aging and next steps in living arrangements. It was fascinating to learn only 10% of the population want community style living. May be a difficult transition from almost an acre to an apartment. In addition, Mark's parkinson's may prove a stumbling block to the next chapter. (I'm hoping somewhere will look @ us as a couple - he may need care soon, but I have those 100+ year old genes...) Regardless, as soon as this Credit Union gets off the ground, we need to start investigating options here and elsewhere.

Dinner with friends tonight and plumbing repairs this weekend. Hoping to talk about taking a Lower Mississippi riverboat cruise with the group too!
Sending emoticon to you and Chris!

My gosh, Kali, you have been very busy. 300 more boxes, oh my! I'm so sorry your sister is not doing well. I bet your niece really appreciates you! I'm glad you could spend time with your 92 y.o. aunt. We both got some aunt love. My visit was really good too.

This morning we went to Chris' hematology/oncology appointment. He got the results of his recent blood work and PET scan. Everything came out clear. The doc agreed that his recent dental issues are to be expected. Chris was so elated and relieved by the results that he got teary in the parking lot. He didn't realize how anxious he was. He will be monitored, of course. He'll repeat tests and see them again in 6 months. Good deal!!!

Silver lining............our gratitude went sky high.

I'm headed up to Big Bear tomorrow for a 3 day yoga retreat. I'm really looking forward to seeing the teachers and a few students from my old studio that shut down. The weather should be really nice, albeit a bit chilly.

Well, have a great weekend.
Sending you and Mark a hug!

Sorry I've been MIA.

Bummer about your pool leak emoticon I won't be complaining about our sprinkler system pipe burst (@ least we could find what needs to be repaired...) Sorry you'll be flying solo, but so glad you will see your aunt. I saw my 92 year old (last Mom's sister) on my way to MN and was delighted. She's frail in body (broke her ankle) but sharp in mind.

Spent Wednesday afternoon-Sunday morning either traveling to (and from) Stillwater or moving and unloading boxes for an estate sale or donations. (This gives you an idea...)

My niece and I were able to empty 50+ boxes, but I'm afraid there are over 300 left to go. Linda is heavier than I've seen her and far less mobile, but we got her to go down to the hot tub (using a wheelchair), but she was in the pool when I left and is using her walker (with the seat) to 'motor down the hall backwards' and plans to come back (it was her MIL's condo) a couple days a week every other week to finish the work. We shall see...

Hope all is good with you and Chris!

Hi Kali. Hope you had a good weekend (yard work or not).
How has your week been?

I’ve been busy with mostly good stuff.
Lunch with my 2 best friends in Temecula and hours of good talk, yoga every day, a bible study with good friends, shopping for books for the grands for Easter, grandson’s baseball game, babysitting tomorrow (the Riverside kids are out 1/2 day).
Our pool has a leak in an underground pipe so I’m on a mission to find a reasonable leak detection company. So far my only option is a company that charges $350 for the first hour. Our pool man has isolated it we think, so we may start digging ourselves. The leak is stressing the pump/filter so I’m going to have to figure it out. Just don’t want to get ripped off. Ahhh the joys of home ownership!

On Sunday I’m going to SD to watch Liam while his parents get out to a movie. Then I’ll watch him Monday. His day care is closed the day after Easter.
Chris and I were going to take a road trip to see my aunt in Sacramento but Chris has a molar that is acting up so he has to see the endodontist next week. So I made plane reservations and will fly by myself. Disappointed but excited to see my aunt. I leave Wednesday.
So..........busy, busy here!!!!
Silver lining:? It’s good to be busy and wanted!
Hope you are well. How is Mark feeling this week? Sending love.

Leslie - so glad you have your car back and there's nothing like mutual trust and respect. I feel the same way about the Auto Connection and it's a good thing because my Mini was picked up by AAA this morning... (Once again our lives mirror.)
emoticon
The gathering in a park in Old Town sounds wonderful - especially to celebrate a milestone with a loved one.

Mark is snoozing and needs to go into the office to prepare for his Tuesday board meeting, so I'm not sure how much yard 'work' will be accomplished this weekend, but now that I'm being realistic about reseeding, the pressure is off and the pleasure is on. The mower battery should be charged, so we can cut the grass and or move the trailer (with @ least 3 years of weeds inside).

Enjoy SD!

Your post has filled me up. I love the graphic!
Mark should certainly be proud of the great contribution he has made to those in need of those services. I have faith and trust that all will turn out as it’s meant to be! Hopefully without further health difficulties for Mark.

Yes indeed your Nebraska weather has been treacherous! I’m so glad you have been spared the worst. But I also pray for those in harms way!!!

Have a great dinner with friends.

I finally got my car back today. Our mechanics were so grateful for our patience they knocked off a good chunk of the cost. It was still pricey but the mutual respect was such a silver lining. Since they have been on our short street for decades, we are neighbors. And they are as honest as the day is long.

We head to SD tomorrow to celebrate our youngest son’s 35th birthday. More party time. We are going to get pizza and other stuff and gather everyone at the park in Old Town. Fun!

Leslie - emoticon our guys are the same. Mark loves to watch the GRIT channel when nothing else is on (even if he's seen the movie multiple times before...)
I must say California housebound is a little different than Nebraska...
Thank goodness the bomb cyclone missed Lincoln, but I feel so sorry for the folks it hit. They've already dealt with snow and flooding and I'm sure they think this season will never end.
Love your gratitude lists - it's so important in our life...

Have the day to myself capped off with dinner with friends.
Was planning to volunteer, but the examiners are looking for a merger partner for the credit union as they feel the growth has been too slow. So I'm no longer needed to help (although I think I'm going to recommend we keep on pursuing initiatives.)
I think Mark has mixed feelings - concern for current employees, fear the merger will be seen as a failure, but I also think he is relieved. The last 7+ years have taken their toll on his health and I for one will be glad to see this one behind him. Besides, what a huge accomplishment just to get a much needed institution established.
Lesson in Trust - EVERYTHING happens for the BEST.
PS - Love that Chris got in 3 rounds of emoticon

I'm thinking again of your dear Mark on this National Parkinson's Day. Again, the bravery with which you both tackle the challenges each day is so inspiring.

My car is still in the shop. I told our mechanic that it was lucky that it was us (retired, live down the street, and are faithful 25 year customers). I would guess they could be getting all kinds of flack from other customers. He agreed. We laughed.

Boy your yard/grass calculations are so much more involved than our. I guess when you actually have seasons, you have to do different maintenance. We have St. Augustine grass. it goes dormant in the winter and springs back to life magically in the spring, summer and fall. You are definitely yard warriors.

We are going to go to lunch and to the movies tomorrow. We are going to see The Mustang. I can always guarantee Chris will agree to a movie if it is horse/cowboy related. Ha Ha.

Well, I'm headed to yoga in an hour. Just got back from a brisk 2 mile walk. Once the mechanic called, I bolted. Chris has golfed 3 times this week, so I've been left stranded here. I've gotten lots of "business" done (Silver Lining!!!), but I'm feeling a bit housebound. Not exactly one of life's greatest problems. I've been doing daily gratitude lists in my mind. I really have so little to complain about.

Leslie - I will be sure to let Mark know about the good western vibes! emoticon
I too am amazed how 'difficult' it is to stay hydrated with our blessings of water @ our fingertips. I too need to change my habits, especially since I try to make up my fluid @ night and then...

Love that you are walking to meet your best friend - wonderful for both of you. Bummer about the leaks, but I keep thinking about the cost of new vehicle in comparison. (I'm hoping by the time I need/want to replace all the safety and self-driving features will be standard...)

Throwing in the emoticon (couldn't find a towel...) on overseeding this spring as the lawn leveling is a major task in itself. Also going to stop bagging the clippings in favor of using the mower to move our trailer. (Changing out the attachments is a job in itself.) Hopefully this weekend (if the ground is dry enough), we'll move a couple loads of lawn waste to the landfill for composting and fill the trailer with pulverized topsoil, so I can level the lawn in anticipation of fall overseeding. It's actually a better time to seed cool weather grass, so it will be a win-win!

Well, I will definitely keep Mark in my good thoughts and prayers, as always. I so hope the med adjustments will help. Sleep problems can be such a vicious cycle. I hope he can adjust to the Powerade taste. It's not my favorite but really helps in the heat out here. Water is always the answer to so many of our health issues. It seems so simple, but is so hard to do regularly and consistently.
Holy Cow more snow. Can't believer that. Take care on those slick roads. Hope the ZB was good.
I've been getting to yoga every day (well 2 days so far), and walking. I had to take my car in to our mechanic down the street for an oil change and ck up. And he found two serious oil leaks with very pricey fixes. So a 40 dollar oil change will now be more like $1400. But he is throwing in a tire rotation. That was nice.
Tomorrow my best friend Jan and I are meeting at a little local restaurant. We are both walking from our respective houses (about 1.5 miles one way). So that will be a great way to combine exercise, coffee, and a long chat with a dear friend. We planned it before I knew my car would be in the hospital for 2 days. Silver lining!!!!!!

This weekend we are headed to SD to celebrate our youngest son's 35th birthday. It should be lots of fun. Just a one day trip, no overnight.

Well, sending huge hugs your way. Tell Mark he's getting good thoughts from California!!!!

Leslie - glad to hear your weekend went well and you are in for a self-care week.

We drove to Omaha yesterday for Mark's annual visit with his PD PA and she gave us some great new approaches. She feels the problem with sleep may well be his dopamine wearing off, so he's now going to take a pill 4x/day as opposed to 3. The pill right before bedtime should get him through the night as opposed to waking @ 2:00 with leg cramps and anxiety. Keep your fingers crossed. She also noted he's dehydrated (source of dizziness) and so we picked up Powerade Zero. He's supposed to drink the full 32 ounces + add 48 ounces in water or other liquid. (He's not excited about the taste so far, but the electrolytes and sodium are definitely needed.)

I'm 'working' @ the Credit Union this morning. (Examiner is here - so more moral support than anything else...) and have my ZB massage this afternoon. (I need it as yoga was cancelled since they're using the aerobics room for a primary voting polling place.) We need to make a run to Sams, but my speaker is presenting for our Forum group tonight (and I have meetings in Omaha with my CASA and for work), so it may be Friday before there's food in the house...
(And this was the Instant Pot queen...)
We're looking @ the potential for a trace of emoticon Wednesday night and Thursday, but northern NE is under a blizzard warning. May not bode well for attending a CASA conference in Kearney this weekend. We shall see...

Hi Kali.
Quick check in. So glad your spirits are lifted. Your faith in a loving Universe helps.
Our busy weekend went really well. Liam was so cute all weekend for a 1 year old. Paloma and Rory were such cute cousins. He coming week looks to be a bit slower than the last 2. I’m ready for some self care and time to reach out to some friends.
Sending my best thoughts for a great week.

Leslie - how fun to enjoy the desert and LPGA golf. Glad you were able to enjoy before weekend work.

I'm definitely more positive today. Major advancements in the request for expansion of the credit union membership and potential help for marketing from a number of sources. I even added an interactive map to the website!

Looks like emoticon for the weekend, so not sure how much emoticon (if any) will be in the offing, but since the soil temps haven't reached 55 yet, I still have time. @ minimum I hope to dig up the 2 dead (or @ least half-dead) arborvitae and completely dead rhododendron for return for new plants and load the Yukon with topsoil.

Kali, Thank you for sharing Shawntavias wonderful progress and joy with me. That was definitely an antidote for your soul.
You definitely have a busy few weeks ahead. I hope your sister comes home with you for a visit. Ill send my positive thoughts your way.

The ANA LPGA golf was wonderful today. So, so gorgeous in the desert this time of year. All our favorite women were easy to follow today. Fun!

Well, Im going to rest for an hour or two then get going on to dos for this weekend.

You sound positive and lighter. Im glad you made it to the wonderful exercise class!

Leslie - how fun - a house full of family and I agree, you will need a rest day Monday!

Drove to Omaha (after my strength and yoga class - I can't believe I waited so long to indulge in that marvelous class...) to visit my CASA child and it was so joyful (and just what I needed).
Shawntavia is doing so well. They upped the med to help her sleep and it shows. She has a 48 hour pass for this weekend and next and looks on track to head home the 23rd. I plan to see her next week and the following week is our team meeting before she comes home to Lincoln.
And then I head to MN to see my sis and hopefully bring her home for a visit.

Kali. I am so sorry to hear about your teammate. Such a tragedy! You must be feeling the full gambit of emotions. You are right to recognize that there is nothing you could have done. God/ the Universe is definitely in charge! You were a wonderful friend.

And I’m also so sorry about your food poisoning! I hope you are recovering well. That’s a long bout! Whew!

Our week is very busy and eclectic! Step sisters visited from Colorado yesterday. Appointments today. ANA golf at Mission Hills in the desert tomorrow. And family coming for the weekend to celebrate Liam’s 1st Birthday. So cleaning, shopping and decorating on Friday. Lots of fun but I’ll be ready to slow down on Monday.

Take good care of yourself. Sending you love!

Leslie - it sounds like a full and eventful weekend with love occurring at all events.

I just recovered from a bout with food poisoning which lasted 5 days and lost 3 lbs (which appear to be gone forever - if such a thing is possible...) and also attended the funeral of my 17 year old teammate yesterday. It was not until the memorial that I found out she took her life (I was hoping her overdose was an accident as there was 0 indication of any problem) and I felt stunned and betrayed, not to mention questioning what I missed. I guess I will never know until I too pass beyond. Her mother tasked us with paying it forward as Alex always did and I intend to take her words to heart.

Concentrating on helping with the Credit Union so lawn leveling and reseeding will not start until next week.
@ least a more level surface will be available to mow.

Wow, Kali,
You are definitely not bored in retirement. Nor am I. We both have such variety in our activities.
I love that you are doing ST and Yoga! I need to add ST to my repertoire............I say that all the time and never get to it. I've given thought to getting a personal trainer at the gym for a while to learn proper use of the machines and good form. We'll see.

House/dog sitting went well and the kids had a great time so it was definitely a win/win.

We have an interesting weekend. I think I've said that our youngest son works for ComicCon as one of the head IT guys. This weekend is WonderCon, a smaller version of ComicCon that will happen in July. We've always begged off going because it's not our thing, but every year our son invites us. This year I convinced Chris that it would be a good way to give him some of our attention since he doesn't have kids and this is his passion. So off we go for 2 days.
The complication is that we have a very sad funeral that we can't miss for a young man (the son of a good friend) who was killed in a hit and run on his racing bicycle. So tragic! So we will go to the funeral in Riverside, then drop Paloma's 8th birthday gift off with a quick hug and kiss, then head to Anaheim for WonderCon. Kind of a roller coaster day emotionally.
The silver lining is that we are again filled with gratitude for the blessings of being alive and our family being well one more precious day.

Sending you blessings and a hug today!

Leslie - so glad to hear all is well. Gotta love it - from child 'sitting' to emoticon emoticon sitting! I so agree that chilly for the time being is just what we need. Supposed to get to 80 here next week. (Thankfully only for a day.)

emoticon this weekend and helping @ the Credit Union tomorrow, so Tuesday will be fungicide and pesticide application day. Works perfectly - Liz to Camp Bow Wow, strength training and yoga and then the day to myself.

Hearing and first team meeting went well. I'm planning to visit once a week to help with the transition, particularly after the judge asked the caseworker if he planned to do so. (He has too many cases to take the time.) Thursday looks good as Wednesday is my teammate lunch, bridge and Ladies of Lincoln (golf) kick-off. (Whoever thinks retirement is boring is crazy...)

Yikes. So sorry I’ve been MIA this past week.
I ended up in San Diego and then Riverside most of the week. When I was home, I was catching up on business here.

I didn’t Spark much except to log in. But I’m hoping to have a few days home to catch up.
I really enjoy our chats too.

I’m going to wish you luck with CASA! I’m sure you don’t need luck.

Next week we are going to house/dog sit for the Riverside gang so they can celebrate my granddaughter’s 8th birthday in San Diego. They will also hook up with our San Diego sons. That is gratifying. But I should be able to spark as we won’t have much to do but relax at their house and play with their dog.

Our weather is still somewhat chilly here. But I’m NOT complaining!

Life is good and gratitude is key. You are at the top of my gratitude list!

First hearing as a CASA - not as prepared as I'd like to be, but planning to get actively involved.
Wish me luck!

Leslie - our 'chats' so warm my heart...
So glad you are having such fun with the Riverside clan and that your plumbing will be up to code - a treat that will help make every day easier.

We decided to pass on the hot water loop - $1K seems a little steep. I may contact our HandyMan folks to see what they'd charge to install the device (it's $200 @ Amazon).
emoticon so much for putting Mark on your prayer list and understanding his need to stay private. He thought he might make it to Rock Steady this morning, but was dizzy and is sleeping now. He needs to get his agenda and minutes out for a Tuesday board meeting and I'm trying to figure out a way to assist. We shall see.
I think I'm definitely going to order the boxing bag (after removing the elliptical) and we're looking @ combo toilet paper/grab bars which I'll ask the HandyMan to look @ (patching drywall from existing holders and painting required).
I adore chair yoga! New ways to stretch and not fall over! emoticon
I've not yet used the pool, but hope to Monday. I'm leaving Wednesday after my Teammate meeting to drive to Des Moines (spending the night with my 92 year old aunt) and then on to Minneapolis to stay with my sis and BIL. I'm hoping she will come back with me for a week or so and Bill will come down to bring her home. (We're doing Fitbit challenges to get her up and around - 2K steps a day+)

Hope to do a little genealogy work today and pick up my umbrella after leaving it @ a coffee shop.

Have a Wonderful day!

Kali,
Plumber for you too. Oh my. Our plumber has now been out 3 times so far. $$$$$$$$ but very worth it. He will come again next week when he gets parts ordered. We now have two new water heaters and have brought things up to new codes. Our oldest tub has parts that he's having a hard time finding. Good reason to call him and not have Chris fuss around with our old pipes.

Good job on the Lent commitments! Today is my 17 sober anniversary. It was a wonderful day. We spent the whole day with the Riverside grand kids at their school where they had Grand Parents day. It was so fun. After they were released (1/2 day) we went to California Pizza Kitchen for lunch, then home and lots of projects and play. Too much fun.

I have put your dear Mark on my prayer list. I know he is continuing to be so active with all of his physical challenges. You are both my heroes!!!! That must have been a difficult service given the sadness of his PD. I understand "the secret". It is very personal as to how we inform others of our life struggles.

Ouch about your underarm cut. I hope the healing has been fast. Good luck with the strength training and yoga. Let me know how it goes!!!

Tomorrow morning we are going back to Riverside to watch our 5 y.o. grandson play t-ball. More fun!

Good thoughts for warm weather and melting ice!!!
Hug,
Leslie

Leslie,
I love how your posts mirror my life. (Needed to call the plumber to schedule visit...) emoticon
Wonderful win-win with your AA meeting. I can't wait until we can be outside with friends...
I hope you get to your kitchen remodel. Ours is 8 years 'old' and although there are many new appliances, we love it and spend a great deal of our time in the space.

Went to dinner with the gang Friday - all but two couples were there and it was great catching up (two grandchildren on the way). Mark took the weekend to rest (I've never seen anyone sleep that long, so he really needed it) and I played with the Instant Pot. Hard boiled eggs, spaghetti in a pot, vegetable broth and successful meal reheating. (The 3 qt. pot works perfectly with the 8 qt. pot).
I've given up emoticon for Lent and Friday night was no problem (several of us had hot tea) but I found Sunday a struggle, especially since Sunday's are considered little 'Easters' and days when abstinence is not required. I've used the season for secular reasons (to 'prove' I'm an abuser as opposed to an alcoholic) but I'm hoping to broaden the 'picture' to see if I can indeed make more room for God...

Haven't been to exercise yet. Managed to cut myself trying to shave underarms (TMI) and plan to wait until Wednesday to swim to heal a little. Tuesday plan to strength train and participate in yoga before heading the Credit Union to volunteer after taking Liz to Camp Bow Wow.

Facial and memorial service for a friend today. I'll be representing the family as Jay suffered from Parkinson's and Mark does not want to run into any of his Rock Steady buddies as he's not made a public announcement. (We've certainly got our 'secrets' in this house...) Sams run tonight - out of dog food and gets both of us out of the house.
emoticon and emoticon (today) are much appreciated. Melt iced over on the patio so no hot tub over the weekend, but planning on it tonight!
emoticon

Hope all is well with you and yours and sorry for the missal.

Kali,
Yay for an easy car tire solution. So nice when businesses honor past patronage. Swimming and chair yoga sound like a great combination. I hope that works for you soon. Sending good thoughts for clear roads to get around safely.

It's been in the 40's still here lately. When it gets in the 50's it is beginning to feel like a heat wave. I think we are acclimating a bit. I walked to an AA meeting that is held about 2 miles from me at a member's home. It was a nice cool, brisk walk and an excellent meeting. It is held outside so people can bring their dogs. I always like this meeting when I get a chance to go. It's always a win/win with exercise and recovery combined.

This week is lots of dr. appts for me. I also am going to lunch Tues. with my two closest friends, Jan and Sue. We can't wait to talk for hours. Wednesday I'm picking up the Riverside grands again from school (1/2 day) Then Friday we go their again for Grandparents' Day. It's 1/2 day also so will take them out to lunch.

We had our plumber out on Saturday to unplug our drains. He is coming back Tuesday to replace our leaking water heater. Then he'll return again to replace old piping and fixtures in our oldest bathroom. The oldest parts of our house were built in the 1950's. Always something to replace. We never seem to get to more favored projects like re-doing our kitchen which hasn't changed since Chris' grandma remodeled in 1960. Yikes. Hope it makes it to the top of our list soon. Ha ha.

Well, I'll wish you a warmer and lovely week ahead!

Leslie - I'm envious about the ocean air... We used to get to the Atlantic once a year and I miss it. So glad the kids got a break and hopefully the concert was super. You are wonderful grandparents!

Good news! It was a nail and since we bought the tires from them, they fix it for free. I still was picked up for lunch and bridge and it looks like we might have a game going every Wednesday! (Won't be taking tai chi, but hopefully the 'chair' yoga will help with flexibility and balance.) I've yet to swim, but plan to start that either Friday (if the weather holds off) or Monday (assuming the streets will be passable).

KaIi~ hope your flat tire was fixed with no bent rim. I bet the snow really takes a toll on the roadways. Even our rain has revealed ruts and pot holes.

What a cool thing shovel angels are in your neighborhood. So wonderful to be so connected to your neighbors.

We got down to San Diego early so we went to Old Town and Seaport Village in the rain. It was so much fun to walk around and enjoy the ocean air. Now we are babysitting our grand son. Hes been a doll and my son and dil are at a concert at the Sports Arena enjoying a mid week date seeing a favorite band. Well stay tomorrow so they can go to work and not have to pack Liam up and get him to day care after their late night. It will be fun!

Leslie - glad to hear your emoticon has been gentle and everyone is feeling better.

It was too cold to go out, but a shovel emoticon cleared the walk. Haven't seen the neighbors in a while so I'm not sure who to thank, but I am definitely grateful.

Sitting @ TO Haas - flat tire on the Yukon. Appointment is 11:00 and they normally don't take cars before scheduled, but I'm hoping... We're hoping the rim is not bent... The potholes are hard to miss.
Keep you fingers crossed- would like to get the car home before my ride to bridge.

Hi Kali,
Be careful with your sidewalk scooping. I've been seeing "blooper" videos on social media of people slipping on icy walks and driveways. I DO NOT find them at all funny. All I can think of is injuries and pain.
Boys State sounds like lots of fun. But, I'm sure the harsh weather makes the weekend challenging. But I'm sure you'll enjoy!!!

We are headed to SD again tomorrow for a few days. I think they are all healthy-ish now and so am I!!! Yay.
Friday I get to pick the Riverside grand kids up from school half day. That will be lots of fun, too.

We have a break in the rain now, but more is coming in by Wednesday. Once again, we can hardly complain since our rain has been steady and rather gentle.

Sending you love for a great week!

Leslie - sending healing thoughts to both you and Liam. We haven't rented a movie in a while as we have Prime, but it might be a fun idea. I definitely want to see Green Book, but am not sure any of the scenes need the wide screen...

Snowed again yesterday and last night, but looks like only an inch. It's not supposed to get into double digits and the wind chill advisory was just lifted, so I might venture out in a couple hours to scoop the front walk (and be legal...)
Boys State emoticon is next weekend, so that will most likely mark our last emoticon (It always seems we have bad weather that weekend) But the good news is we'll get back to the 40s mid March. Looking forward to it going out like a emoticon (They don't have any lambs...)

Take care and get well!

Now Ive been MIA for a while. I finally caught Liams bug. So Ive been a bit slow this past few days. Lots of resting, fluids, and decongestants. Im headed back down to SD Tuesday and Wednesday so I hope we are ALL on the mend by then.

I can understand Marks challenges at the theater. We dont go often. I usually rent them.

So glad your neighbor could clear your drive and street. Thats so helpful. I know Chris is often busy after the rain with his tractor in our neighborhood digging out corrals and filling rain worn trenches.

We have rain all weekend which translates to snow in your state. I guess Punxsutawney Phil was wrong too! Ha Ha.
Be careful with that hammer and ice. You definitely dont need another slip and fall!!

emoticon emoticon The emoticon got around like a champ today. One slight spin on ice (and I did make sure my route did not include any stops on hills) but otherwise, errands complete!
We learned about the Lincoln Parks Foundation projects @ Early Birds, I selected my CASA case and am awaiting the court order appointing me, dropped off a check for swimming (Monday will be my first day), met with my teammate and picked up groceries.
We're expecting 1-2" more of emoticon this weekend which should be fine except for by the hot tub - it's a sheet of ice... Headed out with my hammer to see if I can break a path (wish me luck).

Leslie - I'm not much a movie buff, so I didn't watch the Oscars - it sounds like Lady Gaga & Bradley Cooper 'hit one out of the park'. With Mark's PD, it's difficult for him to sit in the theater (may be more mental than physical, but I think he's afraid of falling asleep), so we wait until the movies come to prime and watch on the 'big' screen in the man cave.

I'm so glad you are keeping up with your walking and yoga. I was sorry to miss my second class, but plan to go both days this week. (I've figured out a way out of the neighborhood - downhill both ways...) I'm also glad to hear that you are supporting some AA folks - it's so good to give back.

Poor Liam - I'll bet the poor little guy just wants to sleep... I am so glad you are there to help. A true blessing for you and the kids. (Even though Chris will need to fend for himself.)
emoticon
We shoveled out 8" (officially) and thank goodness for our neighbor. He owns an infrastructure construction company. He not only cleared the cul-de-sac, but our driveway as well. I need to take a bottle of wine over as a thank you.

We're looking @ winter hanging around...

Normal temps for this time of year are in the 40s. (So much for an above average temperature farmers' almanac prediction.)

I have a facial this afternoon and other than that, hope to do some maintenance work on the treadmill. We shall see.

Kali,
Yes, your neighbors were definitely a blessing. A mini in all that snow would be tough. You turned it into a silver lining with the walk and fresh air and friends, for sure.
I hope you are safe and warm this weekend.

Do you plan to watch the Oscars? I've been trying to rent some of the nominated movies. But I'm too behind to catch up. I really enjoyed The Wife with Glenn Close.

I've been getting in some good long walks with the rain subsiding. And I'm staying consistent with my yoga so that feels really good!

Tomorrow morning I'm meeting two of my AA sponsees for a breakfast and some good chatting.

Monday I head back to SD to give Liam another day away from day care. I think you are right. He is going to build up a strong immune system.....or at least that is what I keep telling the kids. Now he is fighting a double ear infection and the croup. I'm really enjoying him.

Enjoy those InstantPot meals. I have to put mine into action this weekend as well. Then Chris will have a dinner when I'm gone.

Leslie - so glad you are there to help with Liam - so sorry to hear he is sick again. Although, I remember the chancellor of NEMed once told me viruses protected us from the major illnesses. Perhaps Liam will be a strong and healthy adult!

Was stranded Wednesday - Mini couldn't navigate the unplowed (tiny) neighborhood hills. Thanks goodness for neighbors - they helped me get it back to our cleared drive... I ended up going into the office with Mark and walking to my required court hearing for CASA training. Definite win-win-win; steps, fresh air & seeing some old and new friends (the CASA was a retired UNL employee).
There's been enough emoticon to melt the mounds, so I'm going to a 'positivity' lecture @ NET followed by some much needed shopping. (Looks like more mixed weather this weekend, so gathering food for the Instant!)

Kali,
Sounds like you are getting some good things done. Your InstantPot will be very happy.
We are starting to organize to prepare our taxes too. Not my favorite thing to do, but we are getting good at working together to make it less painful.

We are in San Diego today taking care of Liam. His day care is closed today for some reason so Ive had this on my calendar for a long time. But hes sick again, so it was a definite silver lining. This evening before we head home, we will stop by our youngest sons home to give him a hug and see his 2 new rescue kittens.

Oops Liam is awake,,,,,,,,,gotta go!!!!!

Leslie - sounds like all is going well.
Life is good here as well - lots of step opportunities with shoveling snow. emoticon
Meeting with tax accountant this morning as well as electrician @ the house (talk about over scheduling...) Light fixture just needed tightening over the island emoticon and we're putting a new outlet (which to meet code, we should have installed when we remodeled the kitchen) in the tile wall for the InstantPot. (Listening to the sawing is a little nerve wracking but this too will be for the best!)
Hope all is good in CA. emoticon

Happy belated Valentine’s Day!
We went out for breakfast. We tried a new little breakfast/lunch restaurant near us. It was really nice. Chris’s hearing aides do better in smaller more quiet places so it’s nice to find something new.

Tuesday night we drove to Riverside and took dinner to Ryan, Salina, and the kids. We gave the kids some new art supplies as Valentine gifts. It was a fun night. Silver lining.... we didn’t stay late as it was a school night so we got home nice and early.

We still have lots of rain but I’ve been getting out to walk in between storms. Lots of yoga too.
Your trifecta sounds downright scary. It must be so cold! I hope your weekend includes inside fireplace time!

Sending a big hug!

Leslie - so glad to hear the party was a success. Extended family can be such a joy and it's wonderful the cousins can get together. Especially happy to hear about Chris' continued improvement.
emoticon Abound!

Sorry to say we are having the trifecta - freezing rain, sleet and snow and that Mark has decided not to go to RockSteady tonight, but on the emoticon side we'll be able to do some much needed shopping in his all wheel drive Yukon.
emoticon Tonight!

Wow, my fingers are crossed and my toes too that you have light, dry snow. Yes, I would not do well in temps as low as you are having. Maybe there is something to the thinning and thickening of the blood. Please be safe.
You are definitely getting good workouts. I hope Mark makes it to the RockSteady workouts!
What is a Forum group?

Our niece's party was really fun. It did rain on and off, but she rented a huge tent so we could go in and out when the rain came down. It cleared often enough for the kids to get to the playground and also use the blow up jumper (which had a roof). It was so good to see my nieces and their families and meet my new little grand nephew (the 1 year old). They were so grateful that we made the drive to attend.

We have a busy week with lots of rainbows and silver linings ahead. We continue to be so grateful for Chris' recovery at this point. Every day is truly a gift, as cliche as that can sometimes sound. Truly, truly!!!!

Leslie - I love that you think 53 is chilly! And the emoticon celebrations in the park sound wonderful. (I hope it didn't rain.) I had a friend who said our blood thinned (or thickened) depending on where we live and I think he must be right as I remember Hawaiians wearing leather jackets when the weather was in the 70s....
emoticon
Good workout today - treadmill and snow shoveling. A thin crust of ice made it all the easier, but I'm concerned about the patio - swept the snow to use the hot tub this morning and while we thought it was a light snow falling, the deck is now slick... Oh well, I guess once a day is enough. (we'll just have to test it in the morning...)
Full after work week for Mark - finally able to go to RockSteady boxing (keep your fingers crossed that he does) and our Forum group's Valentines Day dinner. I had to reschedule my CASA training to Wednesday and our trainer was nice enough to meet me one on one!
90% chance of precipitation tomorrow with temps ranging from 19-30 degrees, so we have a winter weather advisory. (Possible mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain...) I have a meeting @ Varner Hall @ 10:00 and then lunch with our advisor, but both could be cancelled. With any luck we'll have light dry snow. Keep your fingers crossed.

Kali,
Your treadmill work is so impressive. 12 minutes at or above 4 mph is wonderful. Congratulations on such great progress!
I'm sure you will stay on top of the SS paperwork! I just love being a Silver Sneaker!!!

You have certainly had a busy and fulfilling week. Sorry about your teammate no longer being in Lincoln. How is your weather this week?

It's been a good week here too. We've been able to get outside the past few days post rain to do some weeding and clean up. More rain is coming next week. We had some snow in our local mountains so tomorrow we are hoping to get the grand kids (and their parents) up to Oak Glen (20 min. up the hill) to play in the snow.

Sunday we are headed to Torrance, 1 1/2 hr. drive from here. My niece's 2 boys (ages 1 & 7) have birthdays this month. She is having the party in a park and hoping it doesn't rain. Since my brother passed, I've been trying to keep close tabs on my two nieces and their families. They are still reeling from his death. Chris is being a good sport and driving into LA with me even though it's not his first choice of how to spend a Sunday.

Well, I'm off for a walk. It's chilly still here. It's a bit warmer today than the past few days. It is 53 right now. I think that will be the high. Yesterday the high was 45. We just don't have enough of the right clothes for cold temps. And we are admitted wimps!!!!

Have a wonderful weekend. Hope you can rest after your busy week!

Sorry to be MIA - it took me a while to check my 'junk' folder. Hopefully iCloud will figure out SparkPeople messages are not spam...

Glad you are walking and have such wonderful support groups. Nothing like holistic health! Hope Chris is doing well.
I'm using the emoticon and am up to 12 minutes @ or above 4 mph during a 30 min session. A welcome change from panting thru 20 mins @ 2 mph. After several calls to both SilverSneakers and AARP, I learned the paperwork missed the Jan cutoff and will be sent Feb 10. (Guess who'll be calling the 11th to see if it was received?)
emoticon I can almost feel the joy of emoticon again.

It's been a great week - Tuesday work for university, Wednesday lunch with my teammate, yesterday multiple errands including my first lunch and learn League of Women Voters luncheon and today refresher on Teammate certification. Sad to say I learned my long time teammate is officially not in Lincoln... Oh well, @ least I have the wonderful memories.
Dinner tonight with friends and Mark's presentation tomorrow on purchasing used cars.
All is GOOD here! emoticon

Hooray for warmer temps for you!!!!! That’s a big swing!

We have more rain for a few more days. It’s nice to build fires and enjoy reading and relaxing. Got out for a 2 mile walk today in the drizzles in between storms. Headed to an AA meeting after the game.

Enjoy the Super Bowl............ and commercials and 1/2 time!

Hug!

Leslie - so glad to hear you turned the guilt into gratitude - that is the perfect response! And
emoticon the pups run out, do their business and run back in!

The temperatures emoticon (an 80 degree swing) so I was able to not only pick up those droppings, but also the branches that came down in the 60mph winds. (Only one branch is still frozen to the ground.)
Most of the day was taken up with CASA homework, but other than stripping and remaking the bed, all obligations complete!

Kali,
I am so worried about all of you in the deep freeze. No mail service is such a serious consequence, but very necessary for the safety of all the postal workers.

I hope Mark is able to make it to the Rock Steady classes. Is it a workout group for those with PD? I can see the advantages but also understand his concern for seeing those with a worsening condition. When Chris and I looked into the Multiple Myeloma support groups, he said that his reservation was seeing those who were further down the road than he is. But, I still think support groups are a good thing. I guess my AA background is evidence of that.

I feel guilty about our weather. I was out walking in 68 degrees again this morning. I am turning the guilt into staying grateful. Please stay safe and warm today and this week. A question I have for all of you in the Arctic Freeze is.....How do you get your animals out to potty?

Leslie - I LOVE the win-win and thank goodness that Chris loves your tech savvy and tenacity!
It must be wonderful to spend time with Liam - I'm so glad you're able to help.

It was -9 this morning and even the Post Office will not deliver mail. (I'm glad - too many chances for frostbite.) Hoping to rearrange the workout space as well as contact 'Play it Again Sports' to see if they'd have any interest in purchasing our elliptical trainer. (Neither of us like it...)
Great news - the local Rock Steady group is offering classes M-W from 5:30-7:00, so Mark is thinking about rejoining. He'll need to make the decision as it will be difficult to get there on time after work, but I so hope he does. He needs the cardio and fellowship (although he finds some of the folks condition depressing.) Here's to a renewed interest and participation!

Kali,
Im so glad you dont get out in the bad weather. Its not worth it.

I hope your tea party works out. It was sweet of them to honor you with the cake.
Id love to see a picture of Marks present when you get it.

I got home from SD at dinner time yesterday. Slow drive home, but I love my various pod casts so enjoyable. The weather I so clear and crisp now that it was a beautiful sunset drive.
I hope they all begin to recover. My son made sub plans and is staying home today. Liam is getting better, I think. I love being able to help..................and spend time with Liam.

When I got home Chris was frustrated because the main tv in our family room was no longer responding to the remote. He had changed batteries and done some resets on the cable box, but couldnt figure it out. So this morning I started tackling the problem. I reset our wifi, reset our mother board (the main box in our bedroom), and went online to search for a solution. I went into our account and did some trouble shooting, but no luck. I finally found a YouTube video that walked me through some steps. After LLLOOOOONNNNGGG and persistent efforts, I got the remote working. The huge silver lining was that my husband thinks Im a tech genius. He doesnt realize that it is an outgrowth of my stubborn/never-give-up nature. Such a fun victory!

Well, have a great Friday full of rainbows and silver linings!!!

Leslie - you are the best grandma! Hope Liam is feeling better soon. I so agree about senior benefits (Maybe makes the paperwork worthwhile?)

Headed out to see my Teammate - cancelled yesterday as we dug out from another snow event. I'm such a chicken when it comes to driving with others in less than perfect conditions - oh well, will just need to 'learn' to Trust!

Hope to also pick up Mark's present - will send a picture if I do.

PS - the girls across the street brought over a retirement bundt cake - I've invited them to a 'tea' to share... We shall see.

Happy Birthday to your dear husband. I hope dinner was fun and yummy. Good choice not to go out in the inclimate weather to get his gift. He will enjoy it later.

So happy that AgeWell was as wonderful as you hoped. Dont you just love the free senior benefits!!!

I came down to San Diego in the wee hours of the morning to babysit Liam again for 2 days. Hes sick again and needs some grandma love.

Oops and he just woke up so Ill leave you for now. Lots of silver linings to being retired and able to help.
