We Are Worth The Time

Ironically, we live in a very busy world so when we get caught up in the vicious cycle, the first thing that tends to get cut back is our personal time. We have less time and a lot on our plates, so it only seems natural that this is the first to go. However, in the end it doesn't really benefit us. Most of us know from experience that we function much better when we give ourselves time each day even if it is only to sit in silence. If we'd only realize that the more we have to do, the more we need that solitary, quiet time. As a result, while it may sound counterintuitive, it is during busy times that we most need to take more personal time rather than less. By being quiet and listening to the universe, even for 10-15 minutes, we will be given what we need to get through our day.

The truth is, no matter how busy we are, unless we are in the midst of a crisis we always have five or 10 minutes to spare. The key is convincing ourselves that spending that personal quality time is the most fruitful choice. We could be getting our dishes done or heading into work earlier instead, so it's important that we come to value the importance of personal time in the context of all the other things competing for attention in our lives. All we have to do to discover whether it works more when we are busy is to try it.

We can start by creating more time in the morning, either by getting up earlier or by preparing breakfast the night before and using the extra time for meditation. We can also add short meditation breaks into our schedule, from five minutes before or after lunch to a meditation at night before we go to sleep. When we come from a place of centered calm, we are more effective in handling our busy schedules and more able to keep it all in perspective. If more time in meditation means less time feeling anxious, panicky, and overwhelmed, then it's certainly worth the extra time.

JOANN25, I'd just like to take a moment and say to you that if your picture is recent, you don't look like you even weigh 120 pounds, much less 148! My goodness, you certainly are a slim lady. I have been told to remember that as we grow older our metabolism slows down to what I relate to a 300-pound sea turtle. I believe it moves maybe a foot or two a year. That's my metabolism anyway. My doctor has told me that the older we get, our healthy weight changes. When I use the BMI chart it tells me that I'm supposed to weigh 120. That is my goal at the moment, but my doctor tells me that 135 to 140 would be better for my age. I am 63. She said you can't always go by a chart but rather go by what's right for each of us. She may indeed be right. In 2004 I lost 115 pounds in a year. My daughter looked at me and said I looked anorexic. Actually, I did look rather boney and my face was sunk in. I weighed 135 pounds. So now I will work toward the 120 but if I look healthy at 135 or 140 I'll stop there.

My wish for you is happiness and good health wherever that may take you!

Because of you and others at SP emoticon I have put a lot of my yeh, buts to bed. I am still working on others and sometimes I don't think I can ever get out of this plateau that I seem to stay in. I start losing and it goes back up … yeh, but … I am not making excuses … I will go one day at a time, one hour or minute at a time until I conquer this weight journey. Thank you and the other leaders at Spark People for your encouragement. You may think it doesn't make a difference but it does.

In the last 14 years, I have become the "yeh but" Queen. Making the attempt to make them go away has me in a vicious circle. I make them go away for a short time and then with my health continually going down the loo, the "yeh but's" come back. Will I escape this puzzle of life or not is yet to be seen. I never give up trying.

I didn’t know whether to cheer or sigh. I had been asking myself every day, “How’s it going?” And each day I have been able to reply, “Great – today is my last day. I’m out of here, out of this prison.”
Prison? Yes, prison. Why, because I was feeling the reality of my life was at a dead end for me, I've looked and felt unhealthy for so, so long. Even from early childhood, I have never been my proper or correct weight. And I'm so tired of feeling this way; tired of having no energy. Tired of waking up tired after I have had seven and eight hours of sleep.Tired of my health being like it is; poor rundown It's dragging me down! There are days I am still quite discouraged that all I do is cry and not just cry but weep. That was 2012

It was a time of transition and change. I'm older and hopefully wiser. It's time to put that wisdom to work and get healthier. I knew if I can lose even some of this weight it would definitely be favourable to my health. So It was time for me to make some changes. No more stalling.
It's day-to-day and I still wonder how to respond to this awakening. “So, what’s next?” I ask. and so I began surfing and took advantage of the WWW. And VOILA!
I remember the first day I met the people on Sparks seven years ago now!. I had been in search of a weight loss program. One that would and could give me all the tools I would need especially support and continued motivation! And Sparks has done all of that for me! I have now been slowly picking away at the locks on my prison not only with the help of Sparks but with “yeh buts” too as the keys to freedom.

Yeh but? What’s a “yeh but”? “Yeh buts” are excuses that you can turn into tools, to use when you find yourself in your own kind of prison – as a dead end job. They can include the following relative to changing jobs:

Yeh but…I’m too old to change, (so I’m stuck in prison)
Yeh but…It will take too long, (so I’m stuck in prison)
Yeh but…I don’t have the money, (so I’m stuck in prison)
Yeh but…I don’t have the time, (so I’m stuck in prison)
Yeh but…I don’t know what else I would do and this is all I really know, (so I’m stuck in prison)
Really? Are those “yeh buts” really true? Are you really stuck in prison?

The key to using “yeh buts” as a tool to freedom is to first identify them and then ask your self whether they are, in fact, really true. Most times, they simply are not! Yet, they provide a great place to get started when opening up the door to any prison you may be in.

So I now have identified all my “yeh buts” and use each one to unlock the door to my prison. Instead of thinking I was too old to change, I’m almost in my 60’s, I’m doing it anyway. Instead of thinking I don’t have time, I’ve been able to incorporate it into my day. Instead of thinking I have no options for anything else, I’ve explored things that I enjoy and researched and added them into my plans – my dream life. Instead of thinking I had no other options I have laid out a master plan and timetable, and patiently and cheerfully executed it over a period of several months. I am now free and enjoying life on the outside because I used my keys. Yes, it is time to celebrate! It’s never too late to identify your “yeh buts” and use your keys to break free.

No, I'm neither actually. I just feel the pull from the universe and somehow it guides me to know what to post because people are in need of that particular something. What I should do is take all of my blogs and compile them into a book But I don't know as I would submit them to a publisher or not.

Yeah, I'm talkin' to YOU!

Never look back. Never wait to start. It is in the doing that we achieve.

Today we start! I believe in winning. I believe in success. I will set you up to win. You are already stretching. Your body is feeling better, and you’re ready to introduce a light workout. Instead of making it a no-pain, no-gain situation, I want it to be easy and fun. I plan to make it a way of life, and I don’t think you need to be in pain. You’re going to adopt this as a way of life. It’s going to be a good experience
All too often, people start working out and in the process automatically go through negative thought processes. The first thought is, “I’m so out of shape,” and “Look at me! Why haven’t I been working out?” and “What’s the point?” So you start with a self-defeating negative attitude and negative self-opinion. This same thought process can take place with those who do work out when they examine themselves with a negative eye.

I don’t care if you haven’t been working out or if you do. I don’t care if you’re out of shape, need to lose weight, or are just obsessed. This point is the starting point. Remember, it’s never too late! I want you to be empowered and replace any negative thought pattern with a positive pattern. I want you to congratulate yourself for starting or for continuing to work out. I want you to recognize that you have power over your life and that you can use your self-control and make the decision to go into action in order to have a positive impact on your life. That’s exactly what you’re doing; you’re using your power to have a positive effect on your life. CONGRATULATIONS! You see, it’s never too late, and you will feel great. Since it’s about feeling great, feel great while you’re doing it.

That’s the whole point: to enjoy it and feel great. Any other thought process is self-defeating and counter to the whole process. Yes, counter. When you are critical of yourself, you actually diminish the results. The more you feel good about yourself, the better the results you realize. So love yourself, love your body and love your exercise. That’s the power of positive thinking! By now you should know that the thoughts you feed your brain are the results that manifest in your life. If you think positive thoughts about yourself and your body, you will manifest those results.

Now listen, I can go on here for page after page on why you should work out and how you should think, but I will not. We already know the truth. Our inner voice tells us all the time that we should. It requires no debate. It’s a simple fact, and I will treat it like it is. You’re going to think of it that way too--as a simple fact of life. You will work out, and you will think positively!

Part of the experience I want you to absorb is that it isn't a punishment. It can be simple, and the results can accumulate over time. I will break down working out in many ways, and you need to read this and incorporate different aspects.

1. You get results!

The Law of Accumulation states that consistency will produce the results you want over time, just as cleaning for two to ten minutes a day has, over time, made everything better around you. The reason I had you start with that is that most people don’t like to organize and clean; therefore, if you can make a mundane task like that pay off and can apply the same logic to anything else, you can get amazing results.

The first thing we’re going to realize is that there will be no days off from exercise. What did I just say? What, am i mad? Didn’t I just say that I was going to make this simple? Who exercises every day? I love to answer your questions and your objections. Some of you are already finding reasons not to work out. That’s okay. That’s a natural reaction, and I don’t fault you for that. Still, you get no days off!

Here’s how it works. You develop a mindset that you need to work out three days a week, but then things come up and you adjust the days around and then you skip days and try and make them up and the cycle continues and you end up not working out. So now if you have to work out every day, guess what? You can’t put it off or make it up. Either you did it or you didn’t. That sure does make things simple.

There’s more to it than that; hang on to your bicycle shorts. I didn’t say you had to go to the gym every day nor did I say you had to exercise for hours every day. All I said was that you had to exercise every day. Let’s start simply: a minimum of ten minutes, four days a week and a minimum of twenty minutes three days a week. How’s that? That’s not so tough, is it? Now, you can’t make it up and accumulate minutes on one day or another. The point is to get into the habit and discipline of exercise as a lifestyle.

It also doesn’t have to be unpleasant. I don’t care if you start by walking, riding a bike or playing tennis. There’s something that you can do every day, and you are doing it! It can also be as simple as getting up and doing jumping jacks and some sit-ups one morning and then going for a walk the next. Just do SOMETHING! It will accumulate, and you’ll get into the habit of being active. One of the reasons we gain so much weight as a country is simply because we aren’t physically active anymore. So pick things you like, and start to feel good. Take it easy, and don’t overload yourself. Over time, you will accumulate the results you want, so enjoy it.

2. Have fun!

Whether you have been working out or are just starting, I want you to look at the list of ways you can exercise and introduce fun to your routine. One of the reasons we don’t start or stop is that we’re not having fun. Again, there is no correct exercise to do nor correct type of body. The point is to do what you like and be healthy. Introduce fun into your exercise, and make it part of your lifestyle and be healthy.

3. It does get better!

Stimulating your body every day makes everything better. As you increase your energy, your brain functions better and you affect every area of your life. Let me give you some of the results to get you excited:

a. You feel better.
b. You are healthier.
c. You feel better about yourself (self-esteem).
d. You look better.
e. You work better.
f. You think better.
g. All your relationships improve.
h. Your love life gets better.

Basically, there isn’t a thing in your life that doesn’t improve as a result of exercise. As these areas improve, guess what? You then have more energy and desire to exercise. Everything is connected. It’s one big circle: mind, body and spirit.

OUR NEXT BEST SELVES

Our lives are a journey comprised of many steps on our personal path that takes us down a winding road of constantly evolving. Each day, we are provided with infinite opportunities that allow us to transform into our next best selves. One moment we are presented with an opportunity to react differently while another someone constantly rubs us the wrong way; the grain of sand in an oyster shell that transforms us into a pearl. On another day we may find ourselves wanting to walk away from a particular circumstance but are not sure if we can. Eventually, we can also find ourselves stuck in a rut that we never seem to get out of. We may even make the same choices over and over again because we don't know how to choose otherwise. Rather than moving us forward, our personal paths may take us in a seemingly never-ending loop where our actions and choices lead us nowhere but to where we've already been. It is during these times that awareness can be the first step to change when we finally realize what is happening. It is then that we are able to observe ourselves, noticing our reactions, actions, and choices as if we were a detached viewer. We then begin understanding why we are doing what we are doing. Afterward, it becomes difficult not to change because we are no longer asleep to the truth behind our behaviours. We also begin to realize that, just as much as we are the root source behind the causes for our behaviours, we are also the originator for any changes that we want to make happen.

There is a freedom that comes with awareness. Rather than thinking that we are stuck in a repetitive cycle where there is no escape, we begin to see that we play the hand in creating our lives. Whether we are aware of them or not, our behaviours and choices are always ours to make. Our past and our present no longer have to dictate our future when we choose to be aware. We are then free to move beyond our old limits, make new choices, and take new actions. With awareness, our paths can't help but wind us forward while paving the way for new experiences and new ways of being. It is through awareness that we can continue to consciously evolve.

It's time to pay closer attention!

Do you know that whenever we eat something it directly impacts our overall functions including the quality of fat our bodies burn or stores?
That is why tracking everything we eat is so important! Yes watching and charting or tracking everything we eat will seem like an undesirable chore at first but it'll soon come naturally and we'll definitely be the healthier for it in the end
And we must be sure to keep that balance between proteins, fats and carbs!

Control the Portions
Do we realize that a lot of the time we keep eating not because we are hungry but because the food is there? And that in America restaurants serve almost double the number of calories we should be eating at one meal! Solution Do yourself a favour; order half orders or order one and divide it with a family member or friend. Even if we consistently exercise and burn off the calories and don't control our portions even when eating all the right foods we still won't see those wonderful abs or toned pecs because they will remain buried under all that soft fatty tissue!
And I can't stress this one enough HYDRATE HYDRATE HYDRATE!
Remember our bodies are 70 percent water. So don't you think it makes perfect sense to keep those cells watered and healthy? So be sure to at least drink those eight glasses a day! It helps with weight loss and helps curb hunger at the same time.

And being consistent with our eating habits! Do NOT skip out on meals or we'll be cheating ourselves eating on a regular basis routinely day after day our bodies come to recognize that we are not starving ourselves and it does not need to and will not conserve the fat we take in. Fasting for long periods of time only encourages binging. What's worse is our bodies will want to store as much of that fat as possible in case we fast again. By eating regularly we actually boost the metabolism and burn fat more efficiently!
Make breakfast your biggest meal it is the most important meal of the day It keeps our metabolism burning at full capacity for most of the day!
Eat breakfast like a King, Lunch like a queen and Dinner like a pauper as the saying goes. And have our snacks in between breakfast and lunch and lunch and dinner. That's having five small meals a day. We should never be hungry.

The idea:
Breakfast should be eaten within the first hour of waking.
First snack 2-3 hours after breakfast
Lunch 23- hours after a snack
Second snack 2-3 hours after lunch
Dinner 2-3 hours after afternoon snack and no later than three hours before bed.

And eating at the WRONG time?
To burn fat more efficiently we should not be eating right before a workout or we go to bed!
Why because when we exercise we want to reap the full-fat burning benefits right? See, when we haven't eaten for a bit our bodies are in the mode to burn already existing fat and when we exercise we accelerate that burn! THAT'S EXACTLY what we want! If we eat carbs before we workout or go to bed we are only likely to burn stored carbs instead of that stubborn fat! If we fuel our bodies wisely we'll be transformed into a fat burning machine!
So make dinner low fat low carb and no eating past 8 o'clock in the evening!

Allowing OUrselves to Feel

It can take great courage to really sit with our feelings, allowing ourselves to surrender to their powerful energies. All too often we push our feelings aside, thinking, " Oh I'll deal with them later." What we don't realize is that if we don't deal with them, we end up bottling them up and holding onto them mentally and emotionally this causes our bodies anxiety and other health issues that can arise. Denying what our bodies want to feel when they need to feel can lead to trouble now or down the road, which is why being in the thick of our feelings, no matter how frightening it seems, is really the best thing we can do for ourselves.

One of the reasons we tend to hide or push aside our feelings is that we live in a culture that has not traditionally supported emotional awareness. However, as the connection between mind and body--our emotions and our physical health-- becomes clearer, awareness of the importance of feeling our feelings grows. We can also trust in our own ability to process what comes up when it comes up. If sadness arises, we can notice its presence and welcome it, noting where in our bodies we feel it, and allowing ourselves to express it through tears or a quiet turning inward.

When we simply allow ourselves to fully feel our feelings as they come, we tend to let them go a lot easier. This is all we are required to do; our feelings simply want to be felt. We often complicate the situation by applying mental energy in the form of analysis, thinking too much, when all we really need is to allow, as the earth allows the rain to fall upon it. As the rain falls, the earth responds in a multitude of ways, sometimes emptying out to form a great canyon, sometimes soaking it up to nourish an infinitude of plants. In the same way, the deeper purpose of our feelings is to transform our inner world, sometimes creating space for more feelings to flow, sometimes providing sustenance for growth. All we need to do is allow the process by relaxing, opening, and receiving the bounty of our emotions.

LETTING GO OF OUR ANGER

As humans, we all have anger, sometimes more than others. A healthy way of purging our anger from our bodies is to give it to Mother Earth. Imagine ourselves being grounded as the electrical energy passing from us into Mother Earth below. When we do this we can see that energy go straight to the earth's core where it becomes part of the continuous growth process of our planet and is transformed from negative to positive, from dark to light. When we choose to give our anger to the earth, we trust our connection with the natural world we live in and the great universe that fuels it all. Mother Earth will lovingly transform your anger into the light so no need to feel guilty about unloading to her.

We can make this offering of our energy from any location, whether many stories up or on a ship at sea. We know the earth is below us, supporting us and sustaining us. If we have the opportunity to physically connect to the earth by going outdoors and touching the unpaved ground, we may find it easier to connect to nature's energy flow. It may also be easier to receive the flow of positive, calming, healing energy that comes to fill our bodies when we have emptied ourselves of our anger. To begin, sit and breathe deeply, ask Mother Earth to accept your anger, and imagine it coming down your spine out of your tailbone, and into the earth's deep core. To finish, be sure to honour and thank the earth for her loving service.

When we work with our anger this way, we acknowledge that like everything else it is merely energy that can be used positively or negatively. During our grounding meditation, we may be given directly to channel this energy for its best use. We may find that the earth can help us cleanse misplaced energy to use for its rightful purpose. When we do this with gratitude, we know that we are not misusing the earth for our own selfish purposes. Instead, we are connecting ourselves with the energy of our homeland, and when we do this we nurture the earth as it nourishes us.

PERFECT TIMING

Just before the arrival of the pale rays of dawn, Mother Nature exists in a state of flux. Earth's energy is stable, free of the disordered vibrations that are a by-product of human influence. In these first moments of the day, when the sun's golden light is only just peeking over the horizon, our minds remain in the land of slumber though we ourselves are awake. Deep sleep has washed away the impurities of existence that accumulated within us, so our mental, physical, and emotional potential are heightened. To meditate in this peaceful yet energetically charged in-between time is to connect with the divine in an extremely intimate fashion. We discover a new kinship with the universal life force during morning meditations because our awareness becomes a mirror for earthly consciousness--we wake as the world wakes, quietly embracing the joy of being and setting the tone for a serene, fulfilling day.

In the first glorious glow of morning, the light, air, and energy flowing around us speak in hushed tones of the activity to come. While we recognize that another day of being means becoming once again immersed in the challenges of action and reaction, we also understand that we can draw upon the unique energetic qualities of daybreak for comfort, creativity, and vigor. There is bliss in the simple knowledge that we have been given the gift of another day of existence. We are inspired by sights and sounds of the sun's gentle ascension. Birds serenade the luminosity, which grows richer by the minute. And though we may feel a residual lethargy, our vitality returns as our meditation helps us to become one with the stirring of other beings rubbing the sleep from their eyes. At the start of each day, our destiny has not yet been written, and so there is nothing we cannot do.

How we choose to meditate is less important than our choice to attune ourselves to the spirit of wakefulness that travels around the world each and every day. Even the briefest moment of quiet contemplation in the muted light of the sun can put all that is yet to come into perspective. As a consequence of our daybreak reflections, our lives are imbued with the same stability, tranquillity, and increased awareness that humanity has long associated with the stillness of the early morning.

OWNING OUR CHOICES

The choices I make today will determine the path that my life will take. When I sit back and look at the decisions I've made in my life, I beg the question; am I happy with the road I've paved? If I'm not, I need to make a change today. And the next time I make a choice, I'll ask myself if this decision will lead me to the path I want to travel. So today I am going to set some new goals that will lead me to my dreams and then map out my course!

Yes, I have a second.” That’s all it takes to improve the quality of your life. A second here, a second there.

We've trained ourselves to be lazy. We’ve trained ourselves to ignore our inner voice. Now, as with everything else, we need to stop being lazy. We will improve the quality of our everyday life. What’s funny is that, by taking a second, we add time, not take time away, from your every day. Hey, I can hear you! Be patient. I always tell you what I’m talking about, give me a second for my build up?

We’re already taking two to ten minutes a day, and now you will take a second as well. Let’s start easy. For example your keys. How much time do we spend looking for those darn keys? How come, when we come in through the door, we don’t take a second? How come we end up tossing our keys just anywhere and then have to take time and frustrate ourselves looking for them? It only makes us late, pressured for time, annoyed and irritable before we even get out the door.

That’s not starting our day or any other time in the right frame of mind. Here’s what we should be doing. We need to find a place, a location where we’re going to put our keys. We will put them there every time we walk in the door. We will take that second.. Take the second and make a mental note. Remember, Train The Brain. Our inner voice will take care of it, and soon we’ll automatically put the keys there. Imagine that, no more looking for the keys! No more frustration! No more leaving the house feeling hassled. So take a second!

Let’s hit a few more:

(a) Make the healthier food choices and stay within our calorie, fat, carb and protein limits.

(b) Drink those eight glasses of water. Use visual reminders or what ever helps you to remember until it becomes a lifestyle. It only TAKES A SECOND to pick up that water glass and put it to your mouth!

c) Go for that 15-30 minute walk every day! It only TAKES A SECOND to walk through that door and head down the sidewalk or pathway or to step on that tread mill!

d) Do those strength training exercises every other day. It only TAKES A SECOND to pick up those weights and start pumping!

And here are a few different ones:

(e) Put things back where you got them from as soon as you’re finished with them! Again, this takes only a few seconds. You’ll to be able to find them so much easier and quicker the next time! And hey it’ll save you the frustration and irritation of having to hunt the house down for them!

(f) Make the bed when as soon as you’re finished dressing. It only takes a few seconds. You know you’ll feel better about yourself. And it’s nice to come home to a made bed. You actually function better at work or school knowing your bed is made. It builds self-esteem.

(g) Before you go to bed, put your clothes in the hamper, or hang them up.

(h) Do the dishes when you finish eating. Old dishes take longer to clean. Take a second and do them. I bet most of you have a dishwasher. How tough is it to put them in? Again, having a clean house builds self-esteem, and you perform better. Remember, we want all the odds on our side. Stop lying to ourselves; we have the time. And we’ll end up spending less time by taking those seconds.

First say to yourself what you would be; and then do what you have to. -Epictetus

There are so many more examples. So take a sec', and do the things we should. Life is not as tough as we make it on ourselves—from how to study to how to keep house to how to live. For now I would like to end with what will only take you a second. Ready? “TAKE A SEC'.”

So every time your inner voice says, “Do it now,” and your out-loud voice says, “I’ll do it later,” you do it now. You’re going to develop the habit of paying attention to your inner voice and doing the things you know you should, right there and then. No lost bills, no failing to find things or coming home to a mess. You’ll find your mind will function clearer and quicker without all these little things piling up and without constantly frustrating yourself.

I have always found that we are our own best friends and our own worse enemies. We can be both or just one. You can give yourself an edge out there.
Build your self-esteem, build positive habits and be successful. Everything builds
on itself. The better you feel, the better you can take advantage of life’s opportunities. The better you feel, the more positive momentum you have behind you.

It’s funny, but a simple thing like making your bed or leaving a clean sink gives you strength. Remember, the brain is a sponge and functions on many different levels. Your brain knows that you didn’t pay the bills even if you’re not thinking about them. Your brain knows that you’re coming home to a mess, even if you’re not thinking about it. Besides, you can’t invite someone over on the spur of the moment, and you never know what you might be missing. Seriously folks, your brain knows, and all the little things you don’t take a second for clutter your brain, and when you’re out there in the real world, you might be a split second behind the ball because of it. Your brain might wonder, and one of those things you didn’t take a second for might take over right when you need to be paying attention to what’s going on. Just like when you’re driving and hit the car in front of you because your mind drifted for that split second.

Listen, we’re here to get all the odds in our favour, and all these little seconds end up costing not only more time; they also cost you peace of mind, whether you realize it or not. So we’re going to take a second. Remember, every time you say “later,” do it now. Pick a spot for your keys, pay attention to yourself when you come in through the door and take a second to put your keys there every time. Remember the inner voice that says not to lie to yourself. You know you can do it, and today we’re making the decision to do it.

Returning to Our Origins

So much of the human experience has become so far removed from nature that I think we have forgotten that we are original creations of the natural. At the moment of birth, we are perfectly attuned to nature. Our feelings are an authentic response to the stimulus we encounter. We interact with our natural world viscerally, desiring only what is necessary for our survival. And, if we are lucky, we take in nourishment in the form of pure mother's milk. As months and years pass, however, we discover the sights, sounds, and scents of the synthetic world. Though these often momentarily dazzle us, the dim memory of our unselfconsciousness remains. When we embrace the notion that human beings are inherently natural, once again bringing it to the forefront of our day-to-day experiences, we achieve a new level of wellness that boasts nature at its very core.

We innately understand that our bodies are not composed of plastics or man-made chemicals and that there is no legitimate reason to consume or expose ourselves bodily to such substances. This knowledge is reinforced each time we find ourselves energized by sweet, fresh air and warm sunshine or awed by the majesty of Mother Nature's beauty. We feel the strength of our connection to nature when fresh food that is close to the earth sustains us more effectively than artificial supplements and when the pleasures of exercise outweigh the pains of exertion. The human body has been blessed with the same physical intuitiveness that all nonhuman living beings turn to instinctively. But because our lives are no longer bound up in nature's rhythms, we must actively seek to reconnect with this former spontaneity. The process of rediscovering our place in the natural world can be exciting and inspiring, since nothing more is required of us than to delight in nature's wonders, to derive nourishment from natural foods, and to drink deeply of all the wisdom that plants and animals have to share.

Your own naturalness will reveal itself to you when you look beyond your beliefs, your lifestyle choices, and the attitudes you hold. When these constructs are stripped away, you will see a body and mind that never gave up its relationship to the essence of the natural world from which consciousness sprang.

COMING OUT AHEAD

So how many have noticed these quotes are all saying exactly the same thing? And that no matter how many obstacles or walls we run headlong into, the important things is that we’re able to overcome each of them, one at a time.

All of us should remember the old saying "Two steps forward, one step back" and how it is usually a negative term to describe someone who is having difficulty making progress. What would happen if it was to be reversed?, "1 Step Back, 2 Steps Forward" simply meaning that instead of whining and complaining “woe always me” or feeling guilty about a temporary lapse in letting down our guard, you can still come out ahead if you put your head down and pile drive ahead.

We all know that steps backward can happen at any time, anywhere and take on many different forms: a family vacation breaks in your routine, personal tragedies, injuries, all unexpected and uncontrollable most of the time. However, that lost weekend in front of the tube. (Choices and consequences) And one of the mistakes people often make when trying to lose weight in order to get healthier is that when we sidestep even the slightest bit or something inevitable happens, we immediately think we "have to start at the starting line again". Wrong! When side steps do happen, a better line of attack is to simply take two steps forward. We’d still be ahead of where we were before and still far clear of the starting line.

In any sport; yards in a football game and your favourite team loses a point it isn’t the end of the world, right? Sh** happens. In fact, if they can consistently win a few more points that they lose, they may end up in the hall of fame! With healthy eating and exercising, as long as you’re consistently out-stepping your steps back, you’re ahead of the game. If you expect perfection (and many of us do), we’re only setting ourselves up for frustration and guilt.

And we all know what guilt does and how it can be debilitating to our healthy habits. When we mess up (or even when things are messed up for us), it’s natural to feel guilty. At that point, we have a choice: to let that guilt cause us to nose-dive into a cycle that could chew us up and spit us out and we’d definitely be worse off than before, or to accept the step back and say "All is forgiven, where do I go from here?"

Of course, consistent success is still something to strive for. We do know that we absolutely do not want to the yo-yo or ride the roller coaster up and down. That’s an "old" habit, remember? And the 1Step/2Step strategy doesn’t diminish the need to do our best. We should still work tough to keep those side steps from happening. But it helps to be prepared with a plan and a positive attitude for when they do happen.

Many times, this means a rededication, redirection and a refocusing, along with recommitment. You might want to look at your program and see why it’s allowing those landmines to hang around. We simply need to use it as a learning process. Ask how you can keep that side step from happening again.
• Take a walk in the woods or park to clear your head and regroup.
• Have a personal "spring back” motto that will pick you up, dust you off and push you forward. Put it everywhere. Mine has always been “If it isn’t immoral, illegal or life-threatening …GET OVER IT!”
• Slow it down a pace or two if you think you’re trying too hard too fast.
• Return to the nuts and bolts. Are you making it too complex and hard-hitting on yourself?
• Plan ahead for abnormality in your schedule, if you’re planning a meal out check out menus online from your favourite restaurant and call ahead, pack healthy snacks.
• Always be aware of what you’re doing. One meal mess up can turn into a one day mess up, a one day mess up into a week and so on if you’re not careful………….
• Remind yourself of your success so far when you need a boost. All the hurdles, good habits and changes you’ve accomplished so far.
Unlike people who run 10 miles today because they should have run two yesterday, "2 Steps Forward" doesn’t necessarily mean doing a lot more to make up for a blunder. Just make a recommitment to return to doing things as right as you possibly know how to do and to do as much as you can.

Maintaining That Harmonious Flow

Our essence as living beings is energy. Our physical and ethereal selves depend on the unrestricted flow of life energy that is the source of wholeness and wellness. Though the channels through which this energy flows are influenced by factors outside our control, we ultimately choose what impact these will have on our lives. It is up to us to identify and clear blockages in our energy field to ensure that that flow is maintained. A healthy, grounded individual absorbs a portion of the energy emitted by others and the environment around us This does not in any way interrupt the continuous stream of balanced energy sustaining them. The same individual copes constructively with stress and upset, and they are not subject to the stagnation that frequently goes hand in hand with negativity. When we keep the energy in and around our bodies flowing harmoniously, we are naturally healthy, vibrant, and peaceful.

When there is nothing to obstruct it, our life energy flows through us like a swift stream but various forces such as trauma, downbeat vibrations, and disappointments act like stones that impede the current. If we allow these to pile up, our life energy is thrown off balance or can be blocked entirely, causing illness, restlessness, and a lack of vigour. However, when we take the time to clear these forces away, we rob them of their power to impact our lives. When we cultivate simple yet affirmative habits such as taking regular cleansing baths, practicing meditation and breathing exercises, smudging, and self-shielding, we protect ourselves from outside influences that might otherwise impede our energy flow. Likewise, we lessen the impact of inner influences when we clear our auras of unwanted attachments and divest ourselves of blocked emotions.

A strong and fluid flowing energy field is key to unlocking the doors of self-healing and peace of mind. Your awareness of the flow of energy sustaining you empowers you to take charge of your own well-being by taking steps to unblock, correct, and enhance that flow. Fear will likely be the culprit when you cannot identify the source of stagnation--you may simply be afraid to let go of what is obstructing the flow. Letting go can be challenging, but the exuberance you will feel when the flow is restored will be a welcome and blessed reward.

Power, Knowing The Balance

In many ways, we are taught from young childhood to give away our power to others. Starting with being told to kiss and hug relatives or friends of the family when we didn't want to. This taught us to override our inner sense of knowing and our right to determine for ourselves what we want to do. This repression continued, most likely, in many experiences at school and in situations at work. At this point, we may not even know how to hold onto our power because it became so automatic and ingrained.

To some degree, giving away our energy to others became a part of the psychological social acceptance, and we feel the compulsiveness as part of our survival. However, it is possible to exchange energy in a way that preserves our inner integrity and stability. This begins in a small way: by listening to our inner voices that continues to let us know what we want, no matter how many times we override its messages.

Other instances of giving away our power are getting caught up in the latest trends, not voting, letting others continuingly make decisions for us, and even by not voicing our opinion when an inappropriate joke is told. But with not giving our power away we must also be aware of the opposite side, which is standing in our power but being aggressive. Being aggressive is a form of fear, and the remedy is to let our inner balance come back into play.

As we build a relationship with our power and follow it, we begin to see that we don't always have to do what we're being asked or told to do by others, and we don't have to jump on every trend. All we have to do is have the confidence to listen to our own voice and let it guide us as we make our own decisions in life as to what's best for us and remember the necessity for balance.

Our power today lies in defiance: being contrary, contumacious, defiant, disaffected, fractious, insurgent, mutinous, refractory and riotous.
Do you catch my drift?
Today we become willing to reject being overweight. We are going to excommunicate this extra body weight we have been carrying for far to long! No more endurance or tolerating the status quo or submit to conditions that assume we are invisible -- in this, we have nothing to lose. We accept responsibility for the difficulties ahead and do not seek pity for having chosen against the grain. We are empowered by mutual support and our assets are self-worth, hope, and pride.

Our bodies remember every one of our life experiences--joyful experiences like the exhilaration of jumping on the trampoline, or the excitement of a first kiss. However, they also remember the less joyful times - the feeling of being bullied at school, the trauma of a car crash, grief over a death in the family or the loss of a loved one.

Our bodies remember these things because each of us has an energy body or 'aura' interconnected with our physical bodies - a dynamic vibrational matrix containing our mental, emotional, and spiritual histories.

Releasing Old Emotional Baggage

In an ideal world, when trauma or deep feelings affect us, we experience and assimilate those feelings, and then discharge and release the energy. However, often we don't fully accept or deal with our inner responses at the time--sometimes we suppress and block the flow of energy and bury the memory and the feelings. The vibration of the trauma then becomes embedded into our bodies and woven into our muscles, joints, and organs. These blocked feelings of guilt, shame, pain, and fear become the tensions in our bodies, the illnesses and diseases we don't understand.

Releasing blocked energy from our bodies is a vital part of cultivating good health and wellbeing. We might work with therapists or healers, or do whatever inner work we are drawn to do, to understand and process our feelings and experiences. But discharging the holding from our bodies is a vital step in the process that is very often overlooked.

I'm pickin' up good vibrations

Feelings vibrate, just as all things in the universe do, at a particular frequency. Negative feelings like anger, guilt, and greed vibrate at low frequencies, while positive feelings like joy, appreciation, and passion vibrate at high frequencies. These high-frequency vibrations make us feel good. This is why people and places that inspire and cultivate positive feelings have what we call good vibrations.

Good vibrations inspire health, happiness, and optimism. When we are tuned in to good vibrations, our bodies heal, our hearts open, and our minds shift toward the light. We see new possibilities and feel powerfully energized to follow our inner visions. At the same time, we feel relaxed and capable of manifesting these visions without giving in to stress or struggle. Good vibrations put us in a state of perfect receptivity so that we feel it is the energy flowing through us that accomplishes what needs to be done. We feel guided, supported, protected, and nourished within this joyful flow. We sometimes forget that we are allowed to feel this way all the time.

Lower frequency vibrations are not bad in a moral sense, but they are bad in the sense that they simply don't feel good. Still, they have a purpose, which is to alert us to the fact that we are blocking out the higher frequency vibrations that we need to function well. They are a call for healing ourselves from within. The key to our healing lies in remembering that it is our birthright to feel good and that feeling good is the essence of our true nature. When we are receiving and sending out good vibrations, we are in the flow. When we are not, we can begin to raise our vibration by seeking out people, places, and situations that vibrate at a higher frequency. Whether we need to go on a retreat or just call a friend who makes us laugh, seeking out those good vibrations and basking in them is a sacred and loving practice that returns us, time and again, to the joyful flow of the universe.

This concept of goals...

This concept of goals is so powerful it will change your life and give you the power to make your life what you want it to be. Nothing will seem too big; nothing will seem impossible. Everything will be done because your goals are centred on what you can actually achieve in the day while always keeping the enjoyment of life and balance in perspective.

The great thing about goals as what you can accomplish in the day is when you don’t put off your goals. Think about it. If your goal is the result you want in twelve weeks, then you cannot measure your success daily. This allows you to say, “I’ll make it up tomorrow.” You can’t make up a daily goal tomorrow: Either you did it or you didn’t. This holds you accountable to yourself each day. You stop lying to yourself and actually accomplish daily goals and therefore realize the results you want in your life. You live life to a higher standard of making the most for yourself every day and living in the day. Again this is really empowering stuff, and when you change your thinking to this perspective on goals, you will feel very powerful over your life, and things will start changing. I am so excited to share this with you!

We will work on results for every aspect of your life. We start with the physical for a reason. You can’t separate mind, body and spirit. When we become healthier and more physically active, we feel stronger and more positive. Our self-confidence, self-esteem and energy all increase. Our spirit responds and feels more alive. Our minds, in turn, become more alert and powerful. So we start with our bodies and build from there. It’s all connected even though we start with our bodies; we’re using our minds to build our bodies. I hope you’re learning it’s a circle we’re working on.

Victory In The Small Stuff

Do your dreams seem far away? Mine used to feel that way but not anymore! The distance between me and the finish line doesn't deflate my motivation like it use to. All too often I use to forget that goals and dreams are not achieved overnight, but rather in a series of small steps. Progress towards my goals now is counted as victorious! What helped me was I stopped looking at the end result; the big picture. Instead, now I celebrate the ways in which my life is gravitating towards that desired result. Nothing is guaranteed in life, so now I make the most of each day and persevere. Remembering that the small things in life build up to the bigger ones.

Most people would agree that a more peaceful world would be ideal for all living creatures. However, we often seem stumped as to how to make this ideal condition reality. If we are to have true peace in this world, each one of us must find it in ourselves first. However, if we don't love ourselves first it's more than probable that we don't like those around us. If we are in a constant state of inner conflict, then we will manifest conflict in the world. If we fight within our families, there can be no peace in the world. We must shine the light of inquiry on our internal struggles because this is the only place we can really create change.

When we initiate the process of looking inside ourselves for the meaning of peace, we will begin to help us understand why it has always been so difficult to come by. This in itself will enable us to be compassionate toward the many people in the world who find themselves caught up in conflicts both personal and universal. We may have an experience of peace that we can call up in ourselves to remind us of what we want to create, but if we are human we will also feel the pull in the opposite direction--the desire to defend ourselves, to keep what we feel belongs to us, to protect our loved ones and our cherished ideals, and the anger we feel when threatened. This awareness is important because we cannot truly know peace until we understand the many tendencies and passions that threaten our ability to find it. Peace necessarily includes, even as it transcends, all of our primal energy, much of which has been expressed in ways that contradict peace.

Being at peace with ourselves is not about denying or rejecting any part of ourselves. On the contrary, in order to be at peace, we must be willing and able to hold ourselves, in all our complexity, in a full embrace that excludes nothing. This is perhaps the most difficult part for many of us because we want so much to disown the negative aspects of our humanity. Ironically, though, true peace begins with a willingness to take responsibility for our humanity so that we might ultimately transform it in the light of our love.

As the earthbound beings, we are, as humans, we have always had a fascination with winged creatures of all kinds. The idea of being able to spontaneously lift off from the earth and fly is so compelling to us that we invented airplanes and helicopters and myriad other flying machines in order to become airborne. With being able to fly high, we can look down on the earth that is our home and see things from an entirely different perspective. We can see more, and we can see farther than when on the ground. As if all this weren't enough, the out-of-this-world feeling of freedom that comes with groundlessness inspires us to want to take flight more often.

Figuratively, we also take flight whenever we break free of the gravity that holds us to a particular way of thinking or feeling or being. We take flight mentally when we rise above our habitual ways of thinking about things and experience new insights. This is what it means to open our minds. Emotionally, we take flight when the strength of our passion exceeds the strength of what blocks us; the floodgates open and we are free to feel fully. Spiritually we take flight when we locate that part of ourselves that is beyond the constraint of linear time and the world of form. It is in this place that we experience the essential boundlessness that defines the experience of flight.

Taking flight is always about freeing ourselves from form, if only temporarily. When we literally fly, by plane or hang glider, we free ourselves from the strength of gravity's pull. As we open our minds and our hearts, we free ourselves from habitual patterns of thought and emotional blockages. As we remember our true nature, we free ourselves from identification with the temporary state of our physical forms. The more we stretch our wings, the clearer it becomes that taking flight is a state of grace that simply reminds us of who we really are.

It's time to fly!

There is a popular misconception that we might be able to just magically wish our dreams into being. Yeah, maybe in some other part of the universe and that's even doubtful, but here on earth there's no getting around it. We need to take action. Vision is an important companion to our efforts, but it won't accomplish anything all by itself. When we focus on what we want and ask for what we want, we are initiating a conversation with the universe. Our desires, passionately defined and expressed, bring about valuable and relevant opportunities, which we then respond to by either taking or leaving them.

Many of us, however, are afraid to step out into that world and make things happen, so we hang back, dreaming, waiting and watching. There are times in life when this is the right thing to do, but if we are to build our dreams, making them actual reality inaction must eventually give way to action. This can be really frightening, and we may fail and struggle, but that's okay because that's all part of life. Waiting for everything to be perfect before we act, or waiting for what we want to be handed to us, leaves us in limbo forever. No one expects us to be perfect, so the best thing we can do for ourselves is to get out there and take action on our dreams.

One of the hardest parts about having a vision is that when we test it in the laboratory of life, it often comes out looking completely different than what we had in mind or, worse, it doesn't come out at all. If you read the life stories of people who have made their dreams a reality, you will hear many stories about this experience. But you will always hear about the action of hard work and perseverance, and, finally, the successful birthing of a dream.

So let's get out there, take action and make this vision of better health a reality!

Those living in the northern part of the country are often from Puritan stock and that "idle hands are the devil's workshop" philosophy is strong. Many believe that if you are quiet, not producing something you're lazy, you're not doing anything. A bit of quiet is refreshing and can actually lead to very productive time afterwards. Pace yourself, take some quiet time, reflect, meditate. Be good to and for yourself.

Our lives today compel us to rush, rush, rush. We feel pressured to make the most of our time each day because the activities that sustain us, rejuvenate us, and help us evolve are often the first to be sacrificed when we are in a hurry or faced with a new obligation. So, it is important we remember that there is more to life than achieving success, making money, and even caring for others. Your spiritual needs should occupy an important spot on your list of priorities as well. Each task you undertake and each relationship you nurture draws from the wellspring of your spiritual vitality. Taking the time to engage in spiritually fulfilling activities replenishes that well and readies you to face another day. Making time for the activities that contribute to your spiritual growth has little to do with being selfish and everything to do with your well-being. Regularly taking the time to focus on your soul's needs ensures that you are able to nurture yourself, spend time with your thoughts, experience tranquillity, and expand your spiritual boundaries.

It is so easy to avoid using our free moments for spiritual enrichment. There is always something seemingly more pressing that needs to be done. Many people feel guilty when they use their free time to engage in pursuits where they are focusing on themselves because they feel as if they are neglecting their family or their work. To make time for yourself, it may be necessary to say no to people's requests or refuse to take on extra responsibilities. Scheduling fifteen or thirty minutes of time each day for your spiritual needs can make you feel tranquil, give you more energy and allows you to feel more in touch with the universe. Writing in a journal, meditating, studying the words of wise women and men, and engaging in other spiritual practices can help you make the most of this time.

Making time to nurture your spirit may require that you sacrifice other, less vital activities. The more time you commit to soul-nurturing activities, the happier and more relaxed you will become. The time you devote to enriching your spirit will rejuvenate you and help you create a more restful life.

Shake Those Tail Feathers!

Most of us express our distinctiveness in many ways. Although we proudly share our offbeat traits and preferences with the world, we take great pains to downplay those eccentricities others deem odd.
Visualizing any day without judgment helps to better understand the idiosyncrasies that are an important part of who we are.
Regardless of your individuality, have you ever asked yourself, "What is really stopping me from being me?"
Life as we know it is so short. Making the most of years we are granted is a matter of being ourselves even though we know that we will inevitably encounter people who disapprove of our choices. When you shake your tail feathers like no one is watching, you will discover that there are many others who appreciate you because you are willing to let go of any inhibition. By doing this you help others know it is okay. No one else in the world is precisely like you and, each time you revel in this simple fact, you rededicate yourself to the celebration of individuality.

I've been called eccentric; peculiar, unconventional and nonconforming all my life. And you know what at age 58 I'm proud of who I am, who I've become. I don't hide who I am. I'm an open book. Accept me, don't accept me, your choice. But don't judge this book by its cover.

I wish I could. I'd love to be able to preplan my day the night before, get up in the morning and just do that. But this working full time completely messes that up on me. I've booked a week off the second week in June. SO looking forward to it! I so need a break, a complete break from work away from the office, away from everybody and what involves anything to do with newspapers.

Went back and reread some journal entries. Always helps me to read both good/bad days so I can track, see patterns and develop strategies to have more good than bad days.
So far, seems good days are ones when I thoughtfully plan my day, starting with planning my healthy day--exercising, practicing, snacks. Might make some notes, might not, but seems notes help me focus and make the time more meaningful.

Another rainy day here. Walking round/round/round the house.
May be packing up some items to "clear" the house so looks bigger for viewings, and one item we're considering is the treadmill. I'm pretty o.k. with it going to storage since can walk outside, round/round/round the house, or go to the fitness center and use their treadmills.
Got to sell this house!

We have 3 floors, so our daughter/son-in-law got us 3, and I like the multiples because I don't have to yell at my husband--just ask to drop in on whatever floor he's on. Plus, my husband can get an "instant" weather report (and also some answers to crossword puzzles).

Needed to get 10 more minutes in today, so ask Alexa to keep a timer and walked round/round/round the house. Made my goal and feel good about today. Also accomplished some tasks--washed porch chairs and sprayed to avoid spiders/webs.

Paying attention to the basics is something I've decided to do on a regular basis. Your comments about sleep made me start paying attention to that. I'm also, this week, being attentive to the water. Paying attention to me also includes some meditation, so that is a regular step. While I "do" all of these daily, sometimes I find I need to be attentive and not just doing.

You're right about the sleep. I've been actively getting 7--8 hours of sleep a night and I've found my days have gone better. I can even fall short a night once in awhile and feel o.k. about it the next day.
Sleep. Water. Healthy food choices. Good for the body and soul.

Believe it or not, it's as simple as a good nights sleep and what the day will hold going forward. Most days that means 5 -5:30 am looking after my furbabies and Walt, getting in a few minutes of band exercises and walking to work in that fresh morning air. During the week that means a work day that sometimes carries over into the evening once I've looked after all my fur babies and gotten supper going. Just answering any e-mails that come in.
Weekends now means getting outdoors weather permitting, working in my yards and spending time with my outdoor furbabies that hang around without being skittish.

Do you ever roll out of bed in the morning, sleepily pour yourself some coffee, and wish you could just crawl back under the covers and sleep away your responsibilities? We’ve all been there at some point, dreaming about a day when we could feel motivated and excited about our lives.

While life isn’t always smooth-sailing, these tips can help you stay encouraged on those days when you just wish life could take a back-seat for a while.

10 Tips For Morning Motivation

1. Remember your “why.”

When you wake up in the morning, remind yourself why you will carry out your day in the way you have planned. It helps to keep that mental image in our heads of why we do certain things so that we don’t operate on autopilot and forget our ultimate reasoning for going to work, school, or whatever we have going on. With that said, if you don’t feel inspired or fulfilled by what takes up the majority of your life, you should definitely think about leaving your current job or career path behind in favour of one that will truly make your heart feel full and happy.

2. Say a few mantras that will get you in a positive mindset.

When you first wake up, say a favourite motivational quote of yours either aloud or in your head; this helps to start your day off positively and will inspire you if you wake up feeling discouraged.

3. Meditate when you first wake up.

As you awaken, you haven’t yet encountered all of the daily stressors and chaos that inevitably cross our paths in daily life. Mother Earth is still waking from her slumber as well, and the world is much quieter than at any other time of the day. Use this time to go to a peaceful spot in your home or in your backyard, and just allow yourself to relax and balance your energies. This will help set the stage for a positive, productive, and motivating day, and will assist you in dealing with any stress you encounter.

4. Start off your day with a glass of lemon water.

Lemon water offers a slew of benefits, from fighting off colds to boosting the immune system to promoting weight loss, so pour yourself a nice, cold glass in the morning with a couple of slices of lemon added in. Not only will the tart, zesty flavour from the lemon wake you up, but the vitamins from the citrus fruit will invigorate you and get you excited for your day.

5. Exercise before you begin your day.

Morning exercise revs up your metabolism and wakes up your entire body, getting you pumped up for your work or school day. Many scientists agree that working out first thing in the morning on an empty stomach promotes weight loss and prevents weight gain as well, but it might suit some people better to eat a small breakfast before beginning their workout routine. Follow whatever method works for you, just remember to engage in an activity you enjoy and get your blood pumping!

6. Eat a healthy, balanced breakfast.

When you wake up each morning, make sure you have a nutritious breakfast of something like a fruit smoothie, oatmeal, whole fruits, or maybe a green juice. Having the essential vitamins and minerals in your bloodstream will give you the energy to tackle everything in your day, and will help keep your blood sugar under control.

Many people either skip breakfast or eat sugary, nutrient-lacking foods that spike their insulin, leaving them feeling lethargic and unmotivated to do much of anything. Go for whole, fresh, ripe fruits and veggies or starches to give your body the energy it craves. J

7. Have a list of small, achievable goals to look at each morning.

This goes back to the first point about remembering your why; you need to have your most important goals written out to refer back to often, so you can have a constant reminder of what you wish to accomplish in this crazy game of life. We often get sidetracked with all the distractions we face, which pushes our original motivations and aspirations to the back burner. Make sure you have a list somewhere in your room that you can consult often about your goals, and try to work toward them in some way each day.

8. Change up your routine.

Sometimes, we can feel stuck in a rut when we do the same things day in and day out. Take a different route to work, eat something unordinary for lunch, or go on a nature retreat to somewhere you’ve never been before. Adding variety into your life will help keep your motivation up; this way, you won’t risk burning out or falling into a state of complacency.

9. Work smarter, not harder.

Long work hours don’t do a body or mind good; if you can, try to get more work done in less time so that you have a portion of your day to allot to other activities, like working out, meeting up with friends, relaxing in nature, and just recharging. In Japan, people actually die from overworking; the term they use there for it is karoshi. This affects many people there, so obviously working to the point of mental and physical exhaustion does not have a positive outcome. Make sure you balance your work with your life for optimal health and happiness.

10. Get a good night’s rest.

Of course, getting a poor sleep will just make you feel like slipping back under your covers, not meeting life head-on. You can’t function properly without getting restful sleep, so make sure you go to bed at a decent hour and get rid of any distractions in your room. Lights from electronics can disrupt your circadian rhythm and keep you awake for longer hours, so make sure to turn off all your devices before nightfall.

This might seem difficult in practice, but just try it out tonight before bed and see how much better you feel when you wake up the next morning. Instead of using electronics for entertainment, try reading a book, playing a board game with family, or doing arts and crafts. Facebook, emails, tweets, and texts can always wait until morning when you have had a chance to rest your mind and body.
