Hi! I have fallen off the edge of the world. I have been busy elsewheres. I missed Blooming Tuesday, but I did get a picture of my new clematis posted on my blog.

We had a few storms and rain but it all missed my house.I didn't want the storm but some rain would have been nice.
I got my radishes thinned out.I told hubby if they make it he will get plenty of radishes.
He helped me to repot another Orchid.Just one to go.
Haven't seen the snake lately. Pest control put some stuff out but I don't think it will work.

We too were very lucky, Doug. Horrible storms to the west of us (Kirksville), to the North an dto the South. We did get almost an inch of rain but have so much to be thankful for today.

Good to hear that you are OK.

Wow Granni, Aspen Trees in Arkansas? I am going to check this out to see if they would grow here.
I would love to have some Aspens. They are one of my favorite trees. I used to love going to Colorado in the fall just to see all the "gold" from the Aspen trees in the mountains. I will ask my local nursery.

Sandy - hope you had a great day in the greenhouse.

Hugs, Sunny

The rhubarb plants I inherited upon moving in, are not looking the greatest. Anyone have ideas what to do with rhubarb to make to produce better? Or should I just dig them out and start over with new plants? The neighbor's plants look so much more fuller and vibrant. Ideas?

MS.ELENI, I love the sound of your notebook! I really need to do something like that to get my plant info organized. I've got tons of info saved on my computer, but it's very haphazard and I can never find what I'm looking for. Thanks for the tip!
I'm having a blast with seeds this year. I've never done much with them before, but this has been so much fun. I told DH last night that there is just something so satisfying about planting something that you grew from a seed! My only problem is space. I don't have a greenhouse and little space indoors so I've had to wait until it warmed up to really start planting seeds. Maybe next year I can work towards a greenhouse!

I love my Aspen trees, as they grow very quickly. I planted mine three years ago and they are already thirty feet high, they shade the deck and the west side of the house. The only thing you have to be careful of is they will make a forest, they will reproduce at a high rate, but I keep this under control by just clipping them to the surface.
Good luck on finding the perfect shade tree.
We have a sunny but very windy day here as well, I was going to mow but it can wait until tomorrow as I don't need to get my sinus flared up with pollen.
I hope you have a wonderful day puttering in the greenhouse. Sandy

We have sunshine and blue sky this morning, but that wind is fierce! I'm not complaining tho, after seeing what's happening in the midwest. How are y'all doing over there??

I'll putter in the greenhouse today since it's still too soggy to do any digging.

Oh - I'd like a little input from you folks, if you would. My little greenhouse needs shade, badly. I want to plant a tree in my backyard to help shade it, but can't decide which one. I have saplings of the following: a ginko, two Japanese maples, a red maple, and a hardy eucalyptus. Any recommendations? Any warnings?

Thanks!

I got the journal idea from this site as several people do it.I do mine a little different as I use a 3 ring note book so I can add or take pages out. The only "format" I use is Microsoft word. I insert pictures and make copies of packages if it was seed. Then I just add photo's as I see changes and write notes along with pictures. I put a pencil holder bag in it to hold odds and ends like receipts or extra packets of seeds.

Good Morning....
Hope our friends in Oklahoma and Missouri are okay! Lots of bad storms around!! Texas is getting drown too!!!

Sunny, you mentioned Square Foot Gardening.
I have a small yard and have done the Square Foot Gardening idea for a couple of years. I only have two small vegetable beds.
I won't say I have followed the exact system of that kind of gardening but have used that idea.
The main thing I have learned is that you need to use supports, fertilizer and lots of TLC. You can't just plant and forget them like you can in a large garden.

Check out this site, I shared it on another topic on this team a week or so ago...
Go to the site and then click on "Design Your Own Garden". It lets you know how much you can plant in each square.....

That is great Charlotte. I like the idea of a garden journal. I think I have talked DH into square foot gardening next year. I am going to order a book from Amazon.

The strawberries are wonderful this year. I think it is because of all of our rain. Enjoy your crop.

Everyone one on this team has been a big help in all that you have shared about your gardens. My black thumb isn't green yet but it is getting a lighter shade. I've been picking up branches in the yard, and with this last rain and gust that went thru, part of the neighbors tree limb broke off and will deal with it tomorrow. Planted the rest of my onion sets today. I'll be red onioned come fall...hehe
Spotted a cardinal, nuthatch and i think a gold finch at the feeder this am. The cats were very happy with their new outdoor TV!

Replanting for 2 reasons. One I planted to early. Did this on purpose. Trying to get a jump on things. Didn't work out. Plus the weather has been a little cold and wet. With this big storm coming it's a crap's shoot again.

Doug you say your replanting, did you get flooded out this year?
I guess you are getting twice the workout from gardening.
It has looked like rain all day here, I went ahead and had my Jeep washed so it will rain for sure now emoticon Oh! well I have a monthly pass at the car wash and it only costs me a $1.00 tip.
Chat with everyone later I need to get in some cardio before dinner. Sandy

Went down and replanted some for my parents today. Looked like rain all day, but it held off. Only thing I have not replanted is my strawberries. Trying to stat a couple of rows. But now that the weather is right, the only thing you can find is big planters. May have to look on line.

Yes I'm watching the weather very close. Looks like some bad weather on the way.

It will be nice to not have those ugly bare places!!

That is great Joephine. We are expecting more rain/storms here in the Midwest this evening.

Sounds like your garden in right on tract with exception of the black eyed peas. I take it your greenhouse did great.

Congratulations, Bren.

Doug, Good to hear you got your replanting done. ARe you in the path of the storms? Looks like we are in for a long night.

We finished replanting the black eyed peas today. I don't know why we are having such a hard time with them this year. My English peas are doing great. In fact my garden is doing very well. Every thing is coming up except my watermelon and that should be coming up in the next few days. Hope every one has a good day. emoticon

I am sure glad I am past that stage in my yard. I don't think I could have waited any longer to be outside planting!!

Happy Bloom Tuesday Everyone!!!! Did anyone else get frost last night? I made it a point to wait to get those new annuals I just purchased into the ground. I have loads of plants that I started by seed this year and they are like a baby to me. :-) Funny how that works.

I hope you all are enjoying your garden time. It is that time of year so I am sure many of you are away due to the work that is involved with making things grow.

Be sure to stop by your buddies page and see how they are doing.

I like that size of radish - small and sweet.

We are cutivating the asparagus from an older bed thus put in 40 new roots this year. They were two year roots but still understand we may not get to harvest until 2011 (wow - that seems so far off).

Take care Jo and have a good evening. I got my watering all done plus walked a mile.

We have been eating asparagus too. We don't have very much, but is just enough for the two of us when we pick it every two or three days.

The radishes are just starting to get bulbs on their roots. I have been checking on them and just couldn't wait and had to pull one up today! The radish was about the size of the end of my little finger!! LOL
But it still tasted good!

Everything is growing great!!

We had asparagus with dinner as well, I didn't grow it as we live in one of the states that has a very high production of asparagus, it is just easier for someone else to do all the work:)

I will be gone until Friday or Saturday so won't be around to post here. We are having storms so I'm hurriedly trying to finish up here and shut down the computer. Hope everyone has a great week. Hugs. Barb

Hello garden friends. It is very windy out today, but I braved the gusts and trimmed the roses and am fighting a very determined battle with the dandelions, so far I am winning. I will have to wait for the next rain to see if I won or not.
My garden is in as I have planted my tomatoes, peppers, onions, radishes two kinds, lettuce two kinds, snap peas, bush green beans, leeks, dill and cucumber. I put in some marigolds for companion plants for the tomatoes.
I am holding off planting anything else until after vacation which is the first two full weeks of June. I will wait to put things in pots as they need more care than just the drip hose and the underground sprinklers can provide.
Well lunch is over so I am out to brave the wind again. Sandy

Looks like everyone is busy in their gardens. I got all of mine in for in now. Everything is coming up nicely except for my black eyed peas. I think my seed was to old. I have since reseeded them with new seed so we will see how they will do. I swear everyone in Ridgecrest is planting a garden this year. We were looking for more black eyed pea seed yesterday and not a single store had any left. What seeds were left were very picked through. I have never seen it like this before. Is anyone else running into this problem? emoticon emoticon emoticon

My radish seeds have come up really good.As a novice I put too many too close together so have to thin out.I will learn from my mistakes.
I really enjoy the photo's. I never realized how many different flowers are out there.Like the one that was posted today.I am like a kid enchanted by the pretty flowers.

It's supposed to rain again today, so anything I do will be between showers. My tomato seedlings in the greenhouse are still too small to transplant. I might get some more radish seed into the beds, tho. DH's peas are getting tall and so far the slugs haven't bothered them!

We got the tomatoes and peppers in last week before the rains started again but like you, we will have to wait on the seed crop. We haven't had any rain for a few days so plan to get the seeds in tomorrow if it is dry enough to till.

Take care and have a sunny day.

We planted tomatoes and peppers Saturday. We have had so much rain the seed vegetables have to wait until we can till the ground again. Everything is going in later because of the rain. I hope it produces well.

I got a few annuals planted and hung my new Oriole
feeder.

It is a beautiful day here this morning - sun shining. Hopefully, it will dry out the garden and we will finish the planting the vegetables tomorrow.

Have a emoticon day. Sunny

I spent most of the day yesterday planting annuals. I still have to put in the vegetables and two rose bushes. The weekends fly by quick when I'm planting. I can't wait until everything is in the ground and then I can just nurure them and watch them grow. I added a few new plants this year and I'm eager to see how they will do.
Anyone else do planting this weekend?

I hope everyone had a wonderful day. I had a very relaxing day with Hubby. My son called and we had a nice chat, we are planning a BBQ next weekend with the family.
Have a great week ahead and stayed focused on your goals. Sandy
