I love Joyland. It's one of my favorite Stephen King books. I know it's not as popular as some of his other works, but this book spoke to me. I think I found it delightful because it strayed from his usual formula. Joyland is an endearing coming of age book that made me care about the protagonist and the other supporting characters. There were a few spooky little aspects that I felt, reflected our lives more realistically. We all have those spooky moments in life, a small mystery here or there, and in the forefront of our adventures are love, struggles, and growing up no matter what our ages.

Oh Misery is a good one. I need to re-read that one.

It took me more then 30 years to find myself buried under everyone else's expectations, and I will never again let another person tell me who I am not.

I enjoyed Joyland a lot, expected more 'scary' though.

Wow! Really enjoyed this one more than I remembered!

Wasn't til I was in bed after finishing when I realized that I had missed the premonition that was repeated so many times. Had to think and think to get it, even though I really thought I was watching carefully for it. Got sucked in completely to the denouement and flew past it.

What a ride!

I just finished. I didn't think I would, but you guys know how it is, once you hit a certain point with a King book you just keep pushing to the end, right? I'll be starting Flight Or Fright as my mom just got it for me and has been asking about it so I will get into it for her. I can't wait for elevation to come out!

I think each holds their own. I like the stand alone books for different reasons then I like the interwoven ones.

It can make a big difference I guess, but it all depends on how people see the stand alone book against his other work.

That's true - it's not an iconic book like those. I think I like it because it's set in the real world and the protagonist is just a guy. In the Stand, DT series, It, etc. the characters are dealing with apocalyptic issues, they are taking extreme actions in extreme conditions. In Joyland (and the Mr. Mercedes trilogy) it's just regular people dealing with bad situations.

I'm looking for my inner athlete, but I'm afraid I may have eaten her. If I'm very quiet I can hear her screams of terror.

I read this kinda like I read Cell, it is alright and not too bad story wise, but not one of the classic King stories. I guess to me, it won't live up to The Stand or the DT series, but not too bad for a king read.

I like a lot of the older Koontz books, but I've had a hard time getting into some of the newer ones.

I have a book from the library out on digital lending right now so I need to finish that before it automatically gets returned, but then I'll start Joyland.

I love audio books for road trips on nice days. I suppose a series like that would be good for an out of state trip or something for max listening time! lol Trying to plan on Carsick for our next trip up north. Nothing like some John Waters for some road trip time to warp you along the way, right? lol

I own the book, but never read it, but I have listened to Frankenstein by Koontz on audio cd's in my car. I loved the story. I wish my library had the rest of the books in that series on cd's. I find more time to listen than I do actual reading. I have to TAKE time to read at home, and often that isn't met favorably.

I didn't finish Carrie, but have Joyland checked out, it's due the 9th and so I'll have it read by then, then finish Carrie.

The audio book I've got going now is Let the Dead Sleep by Heather Graham, so far so good.

My drive is about 10 miles from home to work, and I drive the speed limit or just under to get maximum listening time. I look forward to it every morning (and afternoon when I get off work.)

I remember really liking this one when I read it before. In some ways it reminded me of "Twilight Eyes" which was the first Dean Koonz book I ever read. I think the similarities begin and end with the carnival/amusement park - but Joyland still reminded me of the other book. I'm looking forward to reading it again.

I enjoy audiobooks, but I just don't really have time to listen to them. My son isn't a horror fan at all, and a lot of books I read just aren't appropriate for him. That means that I would have to listen after he is in bed, and by then I'm usually getting myself ready for bed.

I don't remember it with a lot of fondness. Hope it is better this time! This is one of the paperbacks that survived my move last year, but I am considering getting the audiobook on CD from the library anyway. This one is read by Michael Kelly.

We are really rolling along in the new season here and hoping we are ready for a new book to read along the way, Joyland. It has been some time since I read this one myself. For me it seems a little slow to get into before it seems to get really interesting. Could just be me, what do you think?
