Cookie I started following you on the WW app, I'm alihikes on there as well. The apps are for each country I believe, so only the US members will be able to follow you there.

Tina, Jane and I both tried to follow you on Fatsecret but we were not able to do so, I think because your page is set to private. I'm alihikes there as well if you want to try following me, or I will try following you again if you want to set your page to public.

Lyn I am glad you got a day to yourself! And I hope it goes well for you at the review on Monday.

I'm at home expecting the delivery of my new barbecue. And I have plenty of work to do around the house. I still have not really made a start at reconfiguring my former small waterfall feature, I want to remove many of the round boulders and small rocks, then level the pond bottom to be flatter (so a new self contained fountain will sit there). I wish I knew when the delivery guys were arriving, I want to go to the garden store before they close to replace the new crop that was eaten by voracious chipmunks.

Oh Tina so sorry you hurt your shoulder. I injured mine shoveling snow one time, and I highly recommend seeing a PT if it doesn't start to heal. I let mine go too long and ended up with a frozen shoulder.

Jane I started following you also, and I posted something in my journal. I'm not sure if that automatically goes to both my groups and people who are following me. I couldn't figure out how to just post on Sparkle and Shine group. I've posted a couple of replies on the WW site, and they had to wait for approval from a moderator before being put on the site, which was different.

Jacquie I sympathize with the trauma that so many of feel about trying on clothes and past school age bullying. It can be a struggle. But we all deserve to be able to wear flattering clothes that fit. And the worst bullies were truly ugly people inside. I haven't decided if I like the book "Animal Vegetable Junk" yet, it is a big picture analysis of global agricultural practices.

Lynn thanks for sharing the insights from NOOM. I agree that weighing frequently helps desensitize us to minor fluctuations in the number. And I like the insight of looking at the recommended calories or goal as a target, not an absolute limit. Getting close to the range, and not feeling like a failure if a few points (or calories) over, is a good strategy. That's one thing I really like about WW -- having weekly points in addition to the daily points. Progress, not perfection, is my motto.

I'm meeting friends for a picnic in the park, and then I'm going for a short a hike in the Badlands east of town. I hope the desert wildflowers will be blooming after our recent rain.

Good Afternoon...

Good luck today at the doctor today Jane, hoping you get good results and the scale isn't too bad. That darn scale, so many issues surrounding it.

I'm going to check out fatsecret. Will probably be tinatc26 there, as that is my user name everywhere I need one.

I've been keeping up reading every day but have not been good about posting and addressing everyone, I'm sorry. Someone said in a post I just read that the closing of SP is especially hard because of not wanting to lose this group, and I agree. So hopefully we'll figure out a way to all re-create this somewhere.

I've been getting my house ready because we are having replacement windows put in starting tomorrow. But I've been lugging and pulling so much my shoulder began hurting. My physical therapist niece thinks it's bursitis, and it really hurts. I started taking NSAIDs and icing and rested it Monday and a good part of yesterday, and it was feeling better. But I left work early yesterday to go finish up and I really overdid it, so it is back to hurting really badly. And I have to be here at work late for a meeting, so I'm kind of miserable right now.

On that note, I'd better get back to work, I have a ton of things to do today and I don't seem to be succeeding. Have a great day!

It's not a diet, it's not exercise, it's a way of life. Period.

I just joined the 'Sparkle and Shine' group on fatsecret.com to check it out. I am skeeter24 there. I am wondering if we would like to create a group just for us regular members here.

Also you can follow people. Maybe instead of our own group we could 'follow' each other. I just 'followed' Alihikes so I wonder what that will look like. Alison, could you please post something there so I could see what happens?

Good morning.

Ohhh Jacqui, having to live in a dorm then not able to be comfortable there must've been awful. I can see where clothes shopping would be super stressful. Would some Online source that allows returns without a hassle be an option?

I've lost some weight since covid but with Changing rooms being "off limits" I've just been guessing at bra sizes. Ordered a couple from Amazon and altho they're "okay", the fit still isn't perfect. Oh all those 'little' things we took for granted prior to this pandemic.

Jane, please don't let the weigh in's weight ruin your whole day. Just view it as a Starting Point, a baseline. I'm still a member at Noom and they have us weigh every day. Think part of their psychology of that is to get us over "scale anxiety". They say that stepping on the scale can be a scary thing and the first time is always the toughest.
I'd asked my coach to reset my program right back to the beginning and day 1 talks about scale anxiety. Noom says this about weighing daily "Expose yourself repeatedly to a difficult situation, it gets eaier and easier until it becomes a habit. BUT the opposite is also true ... "consistently avoid an uncomfortable situation, you'll build a habit of avoidance. And bad habits like avoidance can be tough to break" They say to Plan, set a time every day Prep, put the scale in a place you'll be prompted to use it first thing in the morning (and in a place you'll feel comfortable weighing). Perform, Make weighing a habit. Quoting Michael Jordan "Just do it".

My Noom coach made an interesting comment yesterday .. I've been really struggling with trying to stay even 'in the neighbourhood' of my calorie budget. Most days I'm waaaay over and my weight had slipped firmly back up into the 160's. She said to think a calorie (or points) budget in terms of a Target instead of a budget. A budget implies that once it's gone, it's gone, and it's best to consume as little as possible. But really it's more like the game of darts -- you get the most points for being as close as possible.

I'm going to try to focus on getting as close to the bull's eye as possible, then not allowing my food impulse ideas pull me away / off the target once dinner is done. I can do really well unlike after dinner, then I crave something sweet etc, and cruising into the kitchen starts.

Have to admit that Spark eliminating access to our groups has had an impact ... just knowing that this group was here gave such a sense of belonging, of security. Then I'm like a 3 year old having a temper tantrum .. stamping my food and saying, "but I don't want to have to learn something new! I like it here!!!". So I will look up FatSecret and hopefully be able to find our group there. Are some already posting there or will we keep it here until mid August?

Made plans with hubby to go fishing (and I'll kayak) this morning and he's up and about now so should sign off and get on with the day.

We can do this!

Jane good luck at your appointment. I hope your MRI gives you some answers. And remember your weight is just a number, it's your health that is important. BTW you inspired me, I have been eating tofu again!

Lyn I joined the Sparkle and Shine group on FatSecret, I saw that there was a second group of Spark refugees also but Jacquie and my other friends are in Sparkle and Shine.

Jacquie it is great that Fatsecret has NZ specific foods. I don't like trying on clothes in dressing rooms either but right now I am clearly uncertain as to what my size is. And I usually do try things on because fit varies so much.

It has been raining here so I have not been hiking. My second book club met, and we selected Mark Bittman's new book about agriculture and the food industry "Animal, Vegetable, Junk" which sounds like an apt description of the usual US food intake.

Tomorrow I have an in-person appointment with my primary care doctor to talk about the results of my MRI. A little nervous about that, but more nervous about getting weighed. I usually refuse to at the Docs but I probably can't this time and probably shouldn't. I haven't weighed anywhere in months and know I have gained a bunch. It's scary.

Lynn sounds like a very crazy week. Sorry you had two deaths to cope with. But it is good that the difficult employee was helpful on the project of re-doing the meal sheets.

Jacquie I joined the same groups on fatsecret.com, I am alihikes on that site. Or people can find me under my name, Alison Hamway. I am still learning my way around the site, it's very different.

I deleted most photos on my page, and I am working at deleting my blogs. I started at SP back in 2011 and that is a LOT of blogs. It has been a nostalgic trip to look at my photos and read my past fitness journey.

I purchased some clothes at Target and NONE of them fit. Fitting rooms are not open in most stores here, and sizes range all over the place. Oh well I am returning the clothes.

Hi. Sorry not time to catch up on posts and replies .. bedtime already.

Jane, I made your first muffin recipe but subb'd in bananas instead of applesauce. Made a very soft muffin but they taste just fine.

It's been a crazy week. One of my longest time friends ( from elementary school days) husband passed away Thursday morning after battling cancer at different sites. Then while out walking on Friday our neighbour came over asking for Help with her husband who she was sure had passed away .. ( just sent home from hosp after being there for just over 2 months battling double pneumonia etc (not covid related) following 3 surgeries.). The wife was a mess so came over and asked hubby what she should do. He called 911 from our house so he was instructed to go back over to her house with her and wait until the First responders and ambulance arrived. then he was asked to stay until "they" had left. The ambulance had left just as I arrived home but it was very traumatic for DH; they're across fence neighbours ... not close buddies but my hubby feels sorry for this guys' condition and gives them wood etc when they're out.

Meeting with the owner Thursday gave me permission to re-do the sheets the kitchen uses to know who gets which meal. Started by handing out the menus to all residents this morning and had them re-do their choices. The girl who gave me grief on Wednesday was on, and she became involved in helping the residents complete their sheets, then she and another transferred the choices onto a master sheet. Saved me a LOT of time and really helped make this a 1-day job rather than many after hours work.
Turns out this project gave me a chance to show that altho I was very angry at her actions, (and will forever be wary), we can continue to work co-operatively with each other. She is very good with the residents as has had a lot of experience. Has done private palliative care etc. so is very good with those facing end of time timelines. Two of these ladies have chosen to remain at "the home" rather than go into the hospital etc.

Anyway, my two days were none stop errands and jobs so the time whizzed by. Still no paddling. Weight is creeping back up ... emoticon

I used to be the administrator for 2 yahoo groups - one for my family with aunts, uncles, cousins, second cousins... and one for a monthly brunch group. Yahoogroups died so now these groups on are a system called https://gaggle.email gaggle.email . I would add people to the group and then when they send a message to the group it goes to all of the members and they can reply to all. You can also attach photos, files, etc. and they are saved so you can go back and see them later. There is also a way that you can go back to old messages and even search for particular words or phrases. It seems to work well for those groups.

I am not sure if it would be good for us. It is totally just email so doesn't have links for articles and recipes or challenges etc. Only invited members can see the other members or messages. I would be happy to be the administrator if you think this would be a good idea.

I was looking around fatsecret.com. You don't have to be a member to browse recipes. Here is a Bran muffin recipe from there that looks low cal. I don't have WW anymore so don't know the points.

Bran Muffins
Slightly healthier than regular muffins.

Ingredients:
1 large egg
1 1/4 cups nonfat milk
1/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp salt
2 cups bran flakes
1/4 cup applesauce
2 tsps baking powder
1/4 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour

Directions:
Stir dry ingredients together. Set aside.
Place cereal and milk into large mixing bowl. Let stand 2-3 minutes.
Stir egg and applesauce into cereal mixture.
Add flour mixture, stirring until moistened.
Optional to fold in some raisins or a little pumpkin.
Portion batter evenly into 12 greased muffin cups. Optional to add some chopped nuts on top.

Bake at 400 °F (200 °C) , for 18-20 minutes or until lightly browned.
Serve warm.

Hi everyone,
I'll send my e-mail out via SparkMail. Several of my other Sparkfriends from various countries are going to FatSecret.com, and they are quite enthusiastic about it. It's an Australian food/fitness tracker with some community group features. I haven't joined it yet.

Nell and Tina, no I neglected to wear a face mask. And now I regret that decision.

My asthma is slowly improving. It's rainy and I did a long hike yesterday, so today is housecleaning (my least favorite form of exercise!)

I hope that we will keep in touch somehow. At least we have a couple of months to figure something out that will include everyone.

Good Morning!

Sorry about those allergies Alison, I do think Nell's onto something with the mask helping with allergies. I'm also sorry about the false sense of security with the COVID numbers. We've been doing really well in Massachusetts, but this weekend marks the two week mark since everything pretty much exploded open, so we'll have to see what happens early next week.

Lyn, I hear you on not wanting to join facebook, I was just trying to find an option for us. I think it will be some work to collect all our email addresses, but a group email chat might be the thing that works. I did see that article from Chris Downey. I guess he explains pretty well why they didn't make SP a paid service, they didn't feel their active membership could sustain it anyway, even if everyone were to pay.

Lynn, I've never seen the ".ca" domain for Yahoo. Are you outside the US? I don't know why I don't know that.. I don't have any favorite recipes for bran muffins, unfortunately. I completely agree that the thing that makes SP special is the "support" aspect, and the safe place it is to bare our souls, too. I've never found a more judgment free forum.

Anyway, my email address is tinatc26@yahoo.com. Figure we may as well start collecting those now, as mid-August will be here before we know it.

Have a great day.

Alison, did you wear a mask when spreading mulch? I had little problem with allergies last year when I wore the mask everywhere, this year is so much worse. I doubt there are more allergens, it's the mask.

Lynn I hope we can keep in touch after SP closes also. I love bran muffins but I have not tried making a low point version. The WW app has a recipe for apple bran muffins, but it is 5 points each, so not much better than your version. And I haven't tried the recipe (I would have a hard time with self control if they are delicious!)

I enjoyed a nice long hike with my friend. And in the late afternoon, I went over to another friend's home to help her with her computer; she has vision problems and it is hard for her reading the screen.

Spreading the bark mulch in my yard made the yard look very nice, but the dust from the mulch triggered my asthma. So I'm back on the asthma medication, which helps but is not perfect. (No one wants to hear me wheezing and coughing in this era of COVID!)

Our local county COVID numbers had been REALLY good, we went from extreme risk catergory to lowest risk category in less than a month. Well the numbers have jumped up now, because they discovered one of the labs had not reported their test results for an entire month. Oops.

Hi just a quick check-in; is my bedtime.

Like many of you I'm also feeling just kind of like we're being set adrift but I'm sure we'll figure out ways to stay in touch because the ability to be honest and support I find here are really important to me. Will just keep posting here using SparkPeople until the middle of August then we'll see where we need to go.

I have a question though -- just made some low-fat bran muffins but they're six points each! Wondering if anyone has a bran muffin type recipe that's lower in points?
My e-ml is "cdn_lynn2@yahoo.ca "

Thx.
Lynn

Tina....great idea but I don't do FB and don't plan on joining....

Nell.....I hear what you are saying and I am well aware of all the licences etc that are required however I firmly believe this is a "corporate" choice around money....
By the time whatever is moulded on the new site I will have moved on....

I only use Spark people on my PC....my phone gets invaded with enough and I don't need to carry everything with me when I am not at home...I don't even get most of my emails on my phone....
Big changes for me when Spark goes.....will certainly be a lot less time on the computer

So how about a private "Former WW Sparker" Facebook group that requires an administrator to add someone? I know it's Facebook, but those can be kept private. We've got some time to decide, but that would address the international issue, and allow for flow of conversation similar to what we have on this team.

There are a bunch of food and exercise trackers out there, I will miss the Spark community. It's unique. I am hoping that the creative members will mold the new site into something like this one.

I feel let down and disappointed also; I personally have LOVED getting to know SparkFriends in Canada, NZ, England, Australia, Guam, and elsewhere. We formed a very special community, and to be honest it is the interactions with members in team forums and blogs that is important to me. (I am happy with the WW app for tracking food, exercise, and I also get professional motivation and information on the WW app)

I don't think it was Sparks' choice to stay within the US to start. Every country has licensing requirements for mobile apps, it will take time and money to start to include them. If the whole thing were browser on a computer only, I don't think they'd have the same problem, but they'd lose 99% of their potential customer base. Just a guess.

You're right Nell, SP has evolved and this new idea will too. Perhaps they will evolve to a point where they can be more inclusive, that is what I'll be hoping for. In the meantime, I'm looking through all my old content to see if there are any blogs I want to save, and to reach out to the people I know from SP that I don't communicate with often but would have no other way of getting in touch with, to get their contact info (if they want to stay in touch).

Honestly though, the true value of SP is these groups that bring us together because of a common interest. That is what I'll miss the most :(

I keep thinking about the "change" theme of this month. As a few of you have pointed out, this really is just a continuation of that. Sad that this isn't something any of us WANT to change though. But, in that vein, I had an interesting evening last night. I didn't get to do any food shopping over the weekend, so I went after work yesterday. That lead me to getting home later than usual, which led me to getting dinner ready later than usual, which, obviously, let me to eating dinner later than usual. Funny thing was, I wasn't starving, I didn't "pick" on anything while I was waiting for dinner to be ready, I ate a good, healthy dinner and had no post-dinner urge to graze. I can't tell you the last time that happened. I mean, is it possible that the key is to eat dinner later? And what of that time between when I get home and when I should sit down to eat? Well, last night I was as tired as I usually am at the end of a Monday, and yet I was busy and getting things done.

Perhaps, in the interest of the "change" theme, I just need to keep myself busy. And because the tug of physical exercise keeps pulling at me, perhaps that is the time for me to do some. Doesn't have to be a long drawn out affair. And if history is any guide, getting moving leads to more moving, for me anyway.

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result. And I, sadly, am a master at trying and trying and not succeeding, but I don't tend to change things up a whole lot. Maybe, just maybe, it's time for me to put the "I can't exercise at night" mantra away and try it.

I'll let y'all know how it goes...

It's not a diet, it's not exercise, it's a way of life. Period.

Remember when Spark started there wasn't much on it. They had some trackers, videos and articles, and a couple of communities. It was new users who expanded it to what we know now. In the beginning Spark was browser based, portable platforms hadn't been invented yet. We have no idea how this will unfold, I do know that a year from now it will be different than anything they are planning.

I did join the Facebook group, I will have to see how that works out. I prefer to stay here, but that won’t be an option after mid August. I really regret that WW community forums/Connect groups are not international. At least half my friends here on spark people live in other countries, and I have really appreciated the diverse support. I want to keep in touch, and together we will figure out the best way of doing that.

Honestly, I just can't believe this news. I've been on SP for a long time, and have made many friends that I only communicate with through SP. And their new site will have no place for anyone outside of the US, and so many here are not from the US. Had they reached out and said their advertising revenue was not enough to sustain it, I think many of us would have been willing to pay a small monthly fee, but they never even gave us the chance. Very disappointed, as this is not "Facebook" material, it just isn't. However, to take Jane's idea a step further, we could create a closed Facebook group, and there would be some measure of privacy there, but still, it is Facebook

As an alternative, perhaps anyone interested in staying in touch could exchange emails and we could have a daily check in with each other using that. If we created an email group in our address books, someone could start a daily email that the rest of us could "reply to all" and we could all see each other's comments. Just a thought..

I hope everyone is doing well. I had a busy weekend and showed no discipline at all in the eating category. My scale really showed it this morning. Back on the horse, as they say.

Have as good a day as possible, given this sad news..

Well that's a surprise but I think your idea Jane will work just fine ... forming a private group over on Facebook.

Like Jane I only use SP for support of this group and my original group which formed when eDiets changed focus and format.

Edit: just checked out Fbk for Spark People groups and there is already a group (Sparkpeople 1 - Hangout with friends) and it doesn't look very active (only 4 posts in the last 28 days) so we could probably ask to join them.

You can find me on Fbk as "Lynn Wiwchar".

Just had the thought ... WW topic this week is "Change", well here we go!

I also rolled over from eDiets to here so we can roll onto some new forum once again.

Had trouble falling asleep last nite so today was a struggle. Had "the dropsies" which included a full jug of bleach which splashed onto my pants. Tried to rescue them but no luck.

Hoping for 8 hrs sleep ...
Lynn

I just skimmed their really long post. It does say that it will be free to individuals. Looks like their focus is businesses and helping their employees be healthy so I'll bet that they will get the money to support it from them. It says that eventually they will building 'new community' which is like teams are now I think but it won't be there in the beginning. We will have to see.

I just joined to check it out.

It sounds like they are changing to a paid ad free site. To be free they have to sell a lot of ads, and we all have ad blockers now. They'll be in a crowded weight space, no idea how they will handle us legacy folks.

Good morning. Today will be another really hot one, I am grateful for working air conditioning. I grew up without it, it's hard to imagine that now.

Jacqui, there are people who can look in a fridge or pantry and come up with a great meal idea, I am not one of them. I just don't have the imagination. I have to plan, that way I don't have to give it another thought. I know what to do, when to do it, and that I have everything I'll need.

Nell I am so glad the antibiotic is working, and working quickly. What a relief. It will take time get over this devastating bout of c-diff, but you can now start keeping nutrition in your body and gradually healing.

Jane glad you found another tofu recipe to cook. So far as I know tofu does not have to be cooked at all. But it doesn't taste like much unless it is given spices or sauces. I agree that it doesn't matter when you weigh in or what you wear, as long as you are consistent. But I always wear the lightest clothing that I can when I know I will be weighing in, whether at WW or at the doctor's office.

Jacquie I was interested in the WW meeting topic of dealing with change. It was so appropriate because everything is changing with pandemic restrictions easing here. I went shopping at Costco and was really nervous to be around so many other shoppers who were not wearing masks (indoor masks are no longer required for those of us who are vaccinated ... but I don't trust my fellow shoppers to actually BE vaccinated). I really liked your insight into how in the ER you were prepared for whatever would walk in, and had protocols and equipment arranged. Good work on planning your dinners for the week in advance, I hope it goes well!

Lynn sorry you had such a hectic week and had to work extra shifts. Is there a pool of relief shift workers that can be called in to help out??? I know our local hospital had a pool of people that worked on an as-needed basis to fill in for illness or vacation. They got a slightly higher hourly wage but no benefits, and had no guaranteed hours. Anyway I hope you can do some more kayaking and enjoy some time off.

I enjoyed a relaxing day, met a friend to picnic along the river and play music together. We played music over Zoom during the pandemic but it was very difficult because there is a bit of a video/sound lag, so we were never in exact time. I hosted book club the night before, it was appetizers and beverages. ALL my guests brought desserts!!! 8 people and seven desserts at a pot luck that was supposed to be a variety of appetizers!

My friends Tony and Art came over deliver some wood chips. It was interesting because both of them were doing Keto diet at the same time I started WW, and they were both so insistent that Keto was an easy diet, and that they would lose more weight. Well. both of them have regained ALL the weight they lost, plus a little more. I think it is just too hard to stay on an extreme or restricted diet that really limits one whole food group.

so glad the tide has turned for you nell .
hope things ease up at work lyn 3 days is more than enough!
i have started to say no after last weeks rush overeating and frustration so far i have told 2 people i cant do what they want me to next week .we are having a long weekend [queens birthday] so i am just cruising .jane i know how you feel i love getting into a bed with clean sheets but as for making the bed from scratch not so much.
this week we spoke about change at the meeting some thing i dont do to well .one thing that hit me was how indecisive i can be even with silly things like a menu .and yet a large amount of my working life was in emergency rooms where indecisive is not an option .
i knew just what needed to be done how to do it what i needed to do it
there was a protocol and order in which things were do ,trolleys were set so everyone could expect just to reach and what the needed was always in the same place .
now i know it sounds a bit of a stretch but if i can bring that to my cooking and eating i would be home and hosed .
so far i have planned a weeks main meals and i have all i need to make them .i am debating whether to do do breakfast and lunch
wish me luck
go well everyone

Hi.

Nell, so relieved that you're beginning to see positive results.

This past week has been a blur. Worked my 3 days then was called in to cover Wed & Thursday as the "new girl's" her back was hurting. (the cook was also off work so one of the Care Aides was called in to cook so it was a bit of a circus atmosphere but everyone got fed.). Wish I felt more optimisitc about Elaine's returning to work but the job is very hard on the back; but I don't want to work 5 days on, 2 off again as just can't keep up at home etc plus no time or energy for kayaking etc..

Over the last couple of weeks I've started many transitioning into spring/summer jobs but few had been completed. Yesterday morning I just felt so overwhelmed with mess and clutter everywhere plus a number of unfinished jobs I truly just wanted to run away from home. Unleashed my frustration at the linen cupboard and"broom" closet ... things are still not entirely put back together but have made a lot of progress. On top of it all, our neighbour who was moving gave us a king size bed so spent yesterday shifting mattresses and bedding around.
Working at getting the lawn mowed today -- between rain showers. Also finishing ironing summer pants etc.

Next on the list is the kitchen food cupboards so saying "bye for now".

Later,
Lynn

Glad to hear it, Nell

I have a gazillion small tasks to do today. I don't want to do anyway but guess I need to at lease tackle putting sheets on my bed!

Lynn_w - I made the scrambled tofu tonight and I liked it. It was really colorful as I added green and red peppers. I don't think I cooked it long enough because I was in a hurry. Is it bad if it isn't cooked thoroughly? I feel fine.

About weighing - I have always believed that if you wore about the same type of clothes each time it didn't really matter. When I was doing WW I felt like my scale at home first thing in the morning was the most accurate.

It's been hot here these last few days - upper 80s and where my brother lives it was 97. Way too hot for early June.

GOod night

I finally got my antibiotic for the c-diff filled. My usual pharmacy didn't have it in the strength the doc prescribed, I had to drive 20 mins (no problem) to another one to pick it up. My copay was $35, imagine my shock to see my insurer paid $2220 for the 10 day course. I'm sure there was a discussion there which caused part of the delay.

Alison, the outward symptoms of both c-diff and ulcerative colitis are the same, so it did take lab testing to separate the two. I sure hope the antibiotic cures the bacterial infection quickly, the UC will be a lifelong problem.

Right now I need to gain weight, something for which I am totally unprepared after a lifetime preventing weight gain. There are charts for calorie burn for exercise, but not for illness. All those years of wishing I could wake up thin without effort, now it's here and it's terrible.

Jane, I started out on eDiets, too, long ago. A bunch of us came over to Spark in 2008, we still have a private team. Where do the years go?

Nell so glad you got the diagnosis! I had a bout with c-diff many years ago, after a course of antibiotics disrupted my normal gut function. I remember how horrible it was until it was treated with the correct medication. Hope your new medication works quickly! (It worked pretty quickly for me but I got diagnosed much quicker, because I didn't have the complicating factor of Crohn's disease)

Wecome C! Glad you are here. Our WW studios are not open in my city; when they DO reopen it will be a shock to me to start weighing in fully clothed with shoes on! At home I weigh myself right out of the shower, but that would get me arrested at a WW meeting.

Lyn very glad you got a day off to get caught up with your mentoring. I hope you occasionally can get a day with nothing to do, so you can relax in the garden, read a book, meet a friend for coffee -- just chill out and enjoy life.

Lynn here in Oregon most businesses are requiring masks to enter their premises. To allow maskless entry, the business is supposed to check the customer's vaccination card, which has been extremely controversial among the anti-vaxxers. Congratulation on tossing out the ice cream, and de-cluttering your storage containers. I hope you get a nice kayak one of your days off.

We had record breaking heat here today, and it is thundering over the mountains. I am praying we don't have another devastating fire year, but the drought makes it all too likely. I did some more work in the yard spreading bark mulch but I have to do any heavy outdoor chores early, before breakfast. I'm also getting ready because I'm hosting book club tomorrow, so I better get back to cleaning house and preparing food. (I cleaned the porch and washed the outdoor furniture, but I will have to do it again tomorrow morning if it the thunder brings rain)

Welcome C. I Was in Ediets near the beginning (almost 30 years ago. How could so much time have gone by?) Anyway I was so sad when it became such a business venture, fewer professionals presenting classes, less support and the price went way up and it changed so much. I was in a group of women that we called the Bandits.

Nell - I am so glad that you have a more extensive diagnosis. Hopefully things will be getting better.

Nell, thank goodness "they" found a diagnosis for you and hopefully the medication has you on the road to recovery soon.
Just googled C-diff and it certainly sounds like some of the symptoms one of our sons has. Up here our doctors are very focused on 1 issue per visit and because our son has a mental illness his physical symptoms are often overlooked. but thank you for sharing your dx because your post has alerted me to a possible cause for his (and his girlfiend's) ongoing GI upset.

Jane, Good food choices. It's a process tho isn't it? but one step / decision at a time. Think I'm going to just chuck out the rest of the ice cream we bought for our dinner menu on Sunday. I'm unable to get thru the evening without a dish, or two.

Up here ( B.C., Canada) masks are still manditory I'm afraid that if "vaccinated" people were allowed to go maskless then those who are refusing the vaccines would lie about their 'status' and mingle without wearing a mask. I think many of us will continue to slip a mask on whenever we enter a store etc. Just easier to be safe and healthy.
DH has his 2nd shot yesterday and, like me, zero side affects with this one except for a minimally sore arm at the injection site.

Alison, just starting my 4 days off and have such a long "to do" list. Definitely need to find time for at least 1 paddle too. Seems I have stacks of plastic food storage containers overflowing their storage bins. May just donate two or three boxes to the Re-Use center.

Spring has finally arrived ( night temps are staying above freezing ) so have marigolds to move from the greenhouse to flower beds. But weeds have also taken over ... seems plastics and weeds are right up there with overflowing closets clamoring for attention.

So on that note I'd better say "bye for now" and get on with the day.

Lyn & Jacqui, "hi".

Lynn

I finally got to see the doc yesterday. Turns out I also have c-diff, but they didn't call in the antibiotic before they left for the day. I'll need to make sure that gets done today, hopefully that will make me feel better faster.

I finally get to see my GI doc this afternoon in person. I hope he can give me hope without insisting that I go back into the hospital. I need to gain weight, the hospital is the worst place for that.

I am glad my house cleaners have been wearing masks all this time. I have no idea if they are vaccinated, but my husband and I are. Last spring when this was all new, I didn't have them come for two months, but I paid them anyway, my way to support a small business. The house is big enough that we can stay well away from each other. Cleaning my own house is no longer an option, I'm just too sick right now. I'm on a really expensive drug, I sure hope it kicks in soon.

Jacquie glad you got a sunny day after four gray days. Re meal planning -- well I do it a bit more now than I used to. Because of the pandemic I try to only shop once a week, so I plan dinners (so I can make sure I have the ingredients); and usually have ingredients for options for lunch and breakfast.

Lyn we are not back to normal yet. My church is still on-line only; locally WW is still Zoom only; we cant' try on clothing in dressing rooms; and businesses are limited in their capacity -- restaurant tables 6 feet apart etc. But it IS much more normal than a month ago. Vaccinated people can socialize without masks; some businesses will allow vaccinated people indoors without masks; and masks are not required with outdoor hiking.

Jane I am so glad you enjoyed the Thai green curry tofu recipe. I love one pot recipes! The cookbook author officially states it makes two servings; I think those are very large servings and I usually get 3-4 servings out of it. Congratulations on cutting out sugar and choosing healthier food.

Nell I am so glad you got to see your family face to face. And enjoy a meal together, even if you can't eat the same food.

Lynn I'm doing yard work too, it is hard exercise! Thanks for the information about how mattress companies operate and their return policies. Also thanks for the scrambled tofu recipe. Is the chicken seasoning a mixture of herbs that are used for seasoning a chicken; or is it more similar to a chicken bullion?

I had a busy weekend hiking and visiting friends, and I got way behind on my chores. (I usually clean house over the weekend). I decided to not hire my housekeepers again; they are not vaccinated and I am not comfortable with them being in my house (they didn't wear a mask). They (housekeepers; they are a mother daughter team) think natural immune system is the best; but I don't want unvaccinated maskless people in my home. So I need to buckle down and do it!

We have been back in church most of this year.....I think there may have been a couple of Sundays earlier in the year that it was online but we have been meeting in person....
all our life groups have been running this year as well....

Alison - I made your recipe last night and really liked it. I wasn't sure how much I would like the curry so didn't use as much. How many servings do you think? Next time I will follow the recipe for the curry.

I am really proud of myself. As you know I have not been following any kind of eating plan and eating WAY too much sugar. Day before yesterday I got groceries and didn't buy cookies. Then for lunch I had a fruit smoothie instead of a cheese quesadilla. Then for dinner I had a reasonably healthy meal. Then yesterday I had the fruit smoothie for lunch and then the Thai curry with tofu.

I have not made smoothies successfully with the blender that I had. Now I have a small blender and it is perfect for me. I am much more likely to make them now.

We had a nice visit with the kids yesterday. They ended up bringing sub sandwiches from a local deli. I couldn't eat any, I can't eat lunchmeat or crusty bread. It was good to see them, though, without masks. It's been so long.

Our church is finally open as usual today, but I can't take the chance of being away from my bathroom long enough to go.

Today is like yesterday, it won't be getting out of the 50s, drizzly and miserable. I have the fire on the porch burning to take the edge off of the cold.

One son and his wife will be stopping by today and bring lunch. I told them to skip me, we all like spicy food but I can't eat that right now. They can have their feast, I'll have my tuna. I haven't seen my DIL in a year and a half, it will be good to see her.

Hi. No exercise as such today. Started the day doing yardwork. We were making good progress when "work" called and offered me a 12 to 5pm shift as "Door Greeter"; much easier than my regular work so in I went. We're having our neighbour over for dinner tomorrow so made the lasagna after supper tonite. Funny how I call it "supper" when it's just the two of us and "dinner" when having extra people.

Good morning. Sun's shining so going to spend the day reclaiming a large flower bed from random weeds; have 3 pkgs Marigold seeds/plants to move from the greenhouse to that flower area. Night temps are finally above freezing but not by much.

Just a note on the tags on mattresses. We had a mattress 'give out' and because we still had the manufacturer's tag on it, we were able to go back to the company and get a replacement long after the store's warranty had expired. I worked at a medical clinic and a rep from a major mattress company came in as a patient. In conversation he explained how the mattress companies will warranty their products for a number of years. It took persistence on our part because the store we purchased it from had closed in our town and all in all, the company was pretty dodgey. But pictures of the mattress etc finally got results ... not a mattress of the same quality ( "no longer available" was the excuse) but at least a new mattress.

Jane, here's the Scrambled Tofu recipe (actually the only way I'll eat tofu)
1 lb medium or firm tofu
2 Tbsp chicken-style seasoning
1/4 tsp turmeric (optional but gives color of scrambled eggs)
1/4 tsp onion powder
Salt to taste
Method: Crumble tofu into a non stick pan. Add seasonings. *(Taste test before adding the 2nd Tbsp of Chicken-style seasoning as some are very salty etc.). Cook on medium heat for 15 minutes or until crispy brown. Stir occasionally while cooking. Tip:: Saute' onions, peppers etc to add to scrambled tofu.

Tawney, when I went over to the challenge thread to enter my wt I noticed how well you're doing. congratulations!! Hope all is going well for you.

Ali, Good plan for dealing with temptation. Your hike sounds wonderful. Our neighbours have moved and there goes Chevy the dog, my trusty hiking companion. Last walk I did was alone and I really felt quite vulnerable without his ears and nose checking for bear etc.

Jacqui, some medical appointment booking programs won't let you carry on and complete/save the booking without the "reason for the appt". As a receptionist it's very difficult asking uncomfortable questions. Also sometimes it's the doctor's who are wanting this information; once again placing the receptionist in the middle. Writing the reason for the appt on a piece of paper and passing it to the receptionist works well and maintains your privacy.

Jane, we wonder why we're so much busier than 'when we were younger'. Well, I think that's because we didn't have to deal with all these electronic gadgets and devices. Installing anything is NEVER a quick job and having to call "support" is about guaranteed to use up near to an hour of time.

Nell, how aggravating to have to deal with obstacles in the parking lot. Good for you for asking for help. Crossing my fingers that the addition of Ensure helps your malnutrition. Are you needing to prepare different meals for you and your husband? Recall you having trouble with your A/C last year. Hope it co operates this summer.

Tina, 'hi". Hope all's going okay for you too. I'd had a decent week but blew off plan last nite with sweet cravings. Back on plan today and focused on having a loss for Monday morning. However our neighbour is coming for supper tomorrow before passing the keys on to new owners on Monday. Seems beer, caesar salad and lasagna are on the menu so it'll be a challenge.

Sandy, how are you doing on Green. I'm not familiar with the Green version. When I renewed my WW membership it 'selected' Purple plan for me but when I saw potatoes etc were 'free' I forced a change back to Blue. For me those heavy starches aren't friendly foods.

DH is in for breakfast "bye for now".

Lynn

I never have a problem seeing my GP, it's the specialists that are so busy. They have to do hospital rounds, and all the procedures in addition to seeing people in the office, so I get it. It's the poor communications in the office that bother me, they rely on notes which may or may not be complete. Covid hasn't helped while they have to keep the waiting room pretty much empty and rely on virtual visits. What I don't want is to have to go back into the hospital again.

Congrats on not eating the cookies, Alison. For me they would be calling, even from the freezer.

I sent you the recipe by SparkMail Jane. Glad you got the printer -- but even better that you got your old one running again. I'm not very fond of olives either! But when I'm cooking for myself, if they are in a recipe, I just leave them out (or put in a few for appearance sake and don't eat them!)

Jacquie glad your knee is improved. Great that you got your TENS machine back. Love how you handle making your medical appointments. I don't mind telling them what my basic reason for seeing the doctor is, but I am NOT willing to be postponed if I need to go in. (I just tell them I will go to urgent care if they can't give me a slot on the schedule within a reasonable amount of time)

I went on a challenging hike with my friend today, very beautiful, lots of wildflowers blooming. Her son and DIL in Portland sent a box of cookies from a Middle Eastern bakery for her to deliver to me, because I had mentioned a type of cookie that my Lebanese grandmother used to bake. Very thoughtful of them -- but little calorie bombs. I ate one after the hike, my friend ate one, and I am freezing the rest for my book club next week. (I am NOT going to see what they taste like frozen!)
