Yeah, that's where that "none too bright" comes in emoticon
I went back to her apartment to clean it after she'd gone by ambulance and she'd been admitted to the hospital. Thinking your being cautious apparently isn't the same as taking precautions.

The good news I dropped almost 6 pounds which puts me back to maintenance weight. See? There's the silver lining! Though I don't really recommend it as a method of weight loss.

Did you KNOW your Mum had norovirus? Using disposable gloves and a face mask and aerosol sanitizer, as well as sanitizer on your cloths is wise. That goes through Rest Homes/Hospitals like no-body's business :-( A good cheap sanitizer is a mix of methylated spirits and water - mostly water.

Glad you're feeling lots better.

This weekend I learned that norovirus symptoms are pretty much the same as a severe Crohn's flare. Symptoms lasted 7 straight hours. Had trouble determining if it was really the virus but my mom was admitted to the hospital with it and being thoughtful, yet none too bright, I cleaned her apartment.

Chohn's flares can be bad but it's been a long time since it's taken me three days to recover. Pretty excited about eating oatmeal this morning!

Walked a 5k event this morning! Being careful what I ate for a couple days ahead of time and getting up extra early today put everything on the right track.

Hubby had his surgical OP appointment yesterday. It appears he will be having his surgery in the middle of the year after he has finished Clopidogrel - a medication given (for 12 months) after his last heart attack and stents being inserted.

Hi, Meghan! Welcome. My pre-diagnosis symptoms were similar to yours. After losing way too much weight and eliminating the possibility of parasites and everything else on the list they finally did a colonoscopy. Just having a name to put with the problem made me feel so much better. I can deal with a disease. I can't fight the unknown.

After a round of steroids to get me back on an even keel, Asacol was the third medication that the Gastro tried. And it's now many years later and I'm still on a maintenance dose. Occasionally I'll think perhaps its no longer necessary and stop taking it. Within a few days problems start. I'm amazed that you don't build up an immunity to it, but apparently not.

Your doctor will probably give you very frustrating generalities about your diet. That's because it will be up to you to determine what you can tolerate and what will set you off. We have a "What's Your No-No Food?" (link below). A quick glance through that will 1) probably scare into a jello diet and 2) will prove that everything affects everyone differently.

Humor is your friend. It's so much easier if you're able to laugh about at least some of the things this disease will put you through.

It's wonderful if you have supportive family and friends. I don't ask that they understand the disease because I certainly don't. But supporting what you have to do to cope with it makes dealing with the daily traumas so much easier.
emoticon Good luck to you as you find out what works for you. Hopefully others here will offer their perspective to you because everyone handles this differently.

Hi. I'm new here. My name is Meghan. And I was diagnosed with Crohn's Disease. . . . TODAY. I have been bleeding everytime I go to the bathroom for the last 6 months. I had an emergency colonoscopy a month ago. They put me on Asacol since I had ulcers throughout my colon and now here I am today with the official diagnosis. I am scared and nervous and my doctor put me on prednisone today for the first time. Any insight is welcomed right now because I have NO idea how to react. This day is one of those moments that change the game for me. So hello Crohn's Disease, nice to meet you.

I wonder if it is a partial blockage. what you described fits that. A lot of people think "diarrhea" when you have a lot of loose bowel motions, but in fact "consitipation with overflow" can cause that be cause the (partial) blockage prevents what is behind it coming out in the normal form, so it peutrifies and comes out in almost liquid form. When you have had a resection it will leave scarring and that can cause the blockage. I would be inclined to keep a record describing what happened, and talk with your family Dr and GI Dr about it.

So I haven't been on in a while. But I do believe I am having my first flare up since my small bowel resection almost 2 years ago. I have been doing so well that my Dr. Took me off the 6MP. I have been off for about 3 months now. Sunday I began to feel very worn down almost feverish. I ate a granola bar and some pita chips and became very nauseated and just didn't feel right. I had soup for dinner. The next morning I still felt off but had a yogurt for breakfast. Then After I ate lunch I began to feel really full, bloated and having major bowel sounds and gas then I had very bad diarrhea and felt extremely sick for the rest of the evening. I cancelled exercise class and couldn't eat anything for dinner. I think I used the rest room like 30 times. Today my stomach is sore but the bowel sounds are quite. I was able to eat a banana and so far so good. I think this could be a flare up. Any one agree?

Nitrofurantoin is an antibiotic. A lot of people have a low dose antibiotic as a prophylactic re UTI's - particularly elderly women.

I have only had a couple UTI's but when I got the second one I went to the Dr and was put on one, at the same time as an MSU was done. The results came back that the medication I was on was a good one for it but there were a couple others also. Well, the first day on it and things improved, then next day I was having a lot of pain when trying to void. I phoned the Dr's and spoke with a nurse who just said drink cranberry and drink lots of water. The following day I was in so much pain I HAD to go to the Dr. She gave me another antibiotic that the MSU results showed could be a better match, but to take concurrently with the one I was already on. By the time I got home apart from the pain I was almost passing out with, I was peeing straight blood. The infection had traveled INTO the kidney - not just the normal place below a bit. THAT is where the serious long-term damage can occur and why it is so important to keep on top of things. Anyway with this added antibiotic things came right very quickly.

With all the other things those of us with autoimmune diseases deal with, UTIs would seem less important, but absolutely NOT when we're in the midst of one. That puts them right at the top of the list.

My mom suffered from reoccuring UTIs and was finally put on nitrofurantoin long term. It's been probably 4 or 5 years now and she hasn't had one since.

I was surprised to find out preventative drugs are available.

That isn't a nice combination to have :-( Are you being treated for the UTI? Sometimes people are put on antibiotics but don't get their urine checked a week after finishing the meds, to see if the UTI has gone! Sometimes a bit longer on them is needed, OR occasionally a different antibiotic. AND on top of that, the side-effect that some people suffer from the antibiotic is ........... emoticon

Had two good days and am paying for it today.
Why does it always seem to happen that way?
Last night I was thinking it couldn't possibly last and, sure enough, up and in the bathroom by 5am this morning.

Hi, Kris. Have no idea why SparkPeople doesn't make them more readily available but someone shared a list me when I first joined. If you do a SparkSearch for "hidden emoticons" there are a bunch of teams that have made lists. Here's one:

The way I add the hidden ones is to just put in any ol' emoticon and then change the number part of the html code.
Happy Hunting emoticon

Use this thread to let us know how you're feeling.
If you're having a great day emoticon
If you're feeling not so hot emoticon
If you have a great report from the gastro emoticon
If you have one of those Crohn's moments emoticon
If you run out of toilet paper emoticon

Use an emoticon, write a paragraph. Whatever and however you want to do it, this is the spot to let us know (as Joey on 'Friends' would say) "How you doin'?"
