A 40th celebration in Vegas sounds awesome, IAMINCHARGE! Mine is in March and I haven't quite figured out yet what I'll do to celebrate. Last year we went to OR for my husband's 40th, which was a really relaxing trip. As for starting sooner, I think a lot of us are in that boat. At least you gave yourself a year - you can definitely meet your goals by your bday now!

I won't be 40 for another year, but a friend of mine and I are planning our 40th birthday celebration with a trip to Las Vegas with our husbands next summer. It will be several months early, but that is the best time for us to go. I'm working really hard to reach my goal by 39, so I can spend the year leading up to 40 maintaining instead of working so hard on my diet.

I wish I would have focused more on this when I was 35....it would have been so much easier! Oh well, I'm doig it now and that is all that matters.

I didn't say it would be easy, I said it would be worth it!

Be the girl you were too lazy to be yesterday!

I have about 5.5 months before I turn 40 and I'm still pondering ways to celebrate. I hope to reach my goal by then, however, I'll celebrate my progress whatever that may be when the time comes. Right now I'm thinking that my husband and I, along with a couple of our friends, may go out of town for the weekend to my favorite local B&B. We actually went to Oregon for my husband's 40th this year, but I'm not sure we can afford another big splurge in March.

Also, I totally agree, JMILLER2020, keeping our eye on the prize and getting there eventually is really what matters. Slow, steady progress that we can maintain is a positive thing!

I'm going to be 40 in alittle over a month as well. I won't be reaching my goal by that point, so I decided I'll be fabulous by 41 instead! Most of the goals I've set for myself I didn't achive until a few years later anyway, but I eventually achieved them. That's all that matters. Good luck to you becoming fabulous by 41! (Which is REALLY 39 since we starting backward at 40, right?)

Nothing tastes as good a thin feels!

405 days left until i turn the BIG 40. My goal is to lose at least 40by 40. I think i'm going to sweeten the pot just a little. If i reach my goal by my 40th i want to have a full spa day with the works. Facial, mani-pedi, body wrap and message! What ways are you going to celebrate when you reach goal?

I love that idea, CHEREEW! Why not recommit to your goals and be amazing by 41? I'm all for it. I hit 40 in March and I was hoping to stay at 39 regardless. emoticon

What happens when we hit 40? I have 3 weeks and I am so disappointed w/myself! I am not going to be fit or fab by 40! Can I just linger at 39 for 1 more year and go straight to 41 fit & fab?

Hi everyone. I'm new to the team. I just turned 39 last month and realized I'll be 40 in a year. I want to get my butt back in gear and lose this weight for good. I had a baby in Jan and finally started to lose again since having him. Today is my daughters 14th bday. I quit smoking 3 yrs ago today so I figure I will restart my journey to being fabulously fit by 40 today as well. It is so doable I only have to lose 30# I just need to focus and quit letting myself skip.

Gonna get ready for to hit the hay so I'll be back later to see how you all are doing. Tomorrow is a new start.

Great idea to have a daily chat.
I'm inspired, both by your exercise/nutrition achievements and by the remodeling/reorganizing plans.
I have to reclaim my basement. I want to set up separate work areas for me and my husband plus space for the kids to jump and run during those winter months.
But I teach, and for now it's just about surviving those first weeks of classes without inhaling mountains of junk food.

Good morning ladies and gentlemen!!!

Question, is there is a thread only for Birthdays!!???

I should be nice to have one only for that purpose.

Have a wonderful day!

I have started adhering 100% to the diet my trainer set for me. Huh! Who knew she actually knew what she was doing??!! LOL- I've lost 1.5lbs this week! Imagine what I could have done had I done this strictly in the first place, like 2 months ago!! UGH- Oh well, I am on track now.

Happy Friday!!!

I am so excited my community gym is open after being closed for a month for renovations. I have a friend that goes once a week with me and that keeps me motivated. Means that I get 1 solid workout in a week, with no exceptions. The other days I either workout at home or go alone.

Hi, all. I'm interested in hearing what has worked well for you. What's your favorite exercise? How much exercise do you aim for each week? Do you have go to foods that are satisfying, nutritious and not too bad on the waistline?

Thanks - I'm hoping to hear some success stories and get some ideas for mixing things up for myself.

Cheers!

Yay!!!
I am so glad to see a daily chat thread here. Some days that is all I have time to do online and find it very motivating. My journey has been a sporadic one at best but I enjoy sharing all the ups and downs with others.

We are all in the same boat, I figure we might as well row together :)

Yesterday I had a closed encounter with the carb world. When with DH to eat Mexican food to this new restaurant around the block. It was ok, if I come back again, I don't know, I've seen better places. Had a tortilla chips comatose, nachos with cheese and beans (nah only 3 pieces) and 2 large pieces of shrimp quesadilla with avocado and sour cream. I was so full that my stomach hurt.

I didn't had any alcohol, only water. When we got home my DH offered me some sweet and I screamed, I told him please don't I am so full I don't want to eat anything else more.

Glad I didn't, and also I didn't do my pm exercise. I just took a nice shower and went to bed early than any usual Friday.

Congrats on this week weight losers!

FITNFUNJEN - way to go in making healthy choices!

Always remember "40" is a number, the fun part is how do you feel inside!!! - I'm stuck in my 30s. When I celebrated that birthday in my cake was a phrase that said - 40 is the new 29!!!

I think we must be pretty close in terms of birthdays - my 40th is 8 months from the 26th. I'm making slow but fairly steady progress toward bringing in the big deal as a healthier me. I'm not sure yet what we'll do to celebrate, but know that it will be more special if I meet the goals I've set for myself.

I will be traveling to upstate NY to see my family next weekend which always poses a 'lifestyle challenge'. They leave a pretty sedentary lifestyle, my Mom thinks she's the Yankee Paula Deen, and nobody is mindful of a healthy weight. Thankfully I've already got a family hike in the Adirondacks on the agenda and I'm hoping to add in other fun outings so that I don't negate the hard work I've put in over the last few months.

I should likely get off the computer now and hit the trail for a long walk before another day of rain settles in over DC.

Hello friends! My 40th birthday is in exactly 8 months! And I'm on target to be in the best shape of my life by then! I've already lost a lot of weight, but I'm still working on it. I'm also working on my fitness and nutrition goals. I'm trying new types of workouts to help me find activities that are fun and help me achieve my fitness goals!

I've been traveling a lot this summer, but I'm finally back home. We thought we'd be gone all of July so we didn't plant a garden in the spring, but our plans ended up changing. We planted a few summer veggies a week or so ago (since we can grow things all year round here) and today we're working on building a new wall for the garden. I'm also helping my daughter make some healthy freezer meals today. So both of those projects should help with my nutrition goals.

Hope you are all enjoying your summer!

Hi teamies! I just wanted to let you all know that I haven't really fell off of SP. For the last 6 weeks, I've been working on the annual Shakespeare play that I direct/produce for my students and that is taking all of my time! In two weeks, I'll be finished and I will have more time to play on SP.

I made a commitment this year not to lose myself during the play. So I have made my health, exercise, and relaxation (to reduce stress) a top priority and it's making a huge difference! I'm losing weight instead of my sanity! LOL!

I just wanted to stop by and say hi! emoticon

So a friend on another SP team asked for ideas for active dates. I loved thinking of ideas and even found an SP article about it:
www.sparkpeople.com/resource/slidesh
ow
.asp?show=59

So what are your ideas for active dates?

Here are some of my ideas . . . I think our favorite active date ever is going to the rock climbing gym. We often do walks or hiking. In the past, we have joined community dance classes. I also know a local dance studio that hosts ballroom dances one Friday evening a month. Sometimes we'll play an active game on the Wii like boxing, DDR, or Just Dance. In the summer, we'll go swimming. Sometimes we'll play catch or frisbee at the park. Other ideas: mini-golf, batting cages, horse back riding, ice skating, roller skating, bike riding, playing one on one basketball, laser tag.

Having a good week so far. Even if yesterday was 16 hrs out of the house for work! Ugh.

It's Monday and I want to wish everyone a great start on their week! Let's make it a great one!

Sorry I've been MIA lately! I'm so frustrated with our internet service. It goes out randomly for no reason and rarely works in the evening. So I haven't been able to spark as much lately. We're changing over to cable this week, but they can't do it until Thursday. So I still have several days of bad internet.

I'm also getting ready to audition my Shakespeare class for our play. I've been working on cutting our script and now I need to get it printed so I can hand it out this Thursday at auditions. It's a lot of work, but the kids grow so much and have so much fun too!

Hi everyone. Hope everyone has done well today. I did fairly well. Can't complain.

A day at a time and I will reach my goal. I am not perfect but I will forgive myself for the mistakes I make. Life is full of choices and sometimes we don't always make the best ones but that's what makes us human.

Today the weather has been so strange! It was raining off and on, but whenever it was on it would start pouring all of the sudden. When we walked out to the car for church, the sun peeked out and was shining bright and then all of the sudden, it was hailing tons! By the time we got to church 5 minutes later, it was all clear again.

Last night, we spent the evening watching my daughter, niece, and nephew perform in Twelfth Night. They did such a great job and were so funny! My daughter did a great Cockney accent too. And my second daughter was on the crew working the lights. I'll get to see it again later this week. They did a great job!

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend and are ready for a great week!! emoticon

Ok so this will not help you lose weight at all, but I thought these were really cute for St. Patrick's Day!

It's a good thing I enjoy reading recipes more than actually making them because I don't think I'd ever lose weight if I loved baking that much! LOL!

Just curious--Is anyone on our team vegan or vegetarian? SP has a new vegan cookbook out and is encouraging people to go meatless in March. See this link for more info: www.dailyspark.com/blog.asp?post=the
_n
ostress_noguilt_approach_to_meatlessR>_meals

I have tried vegan and vegetarian eating in the past (but I'm not interested in being that restrictive now). And I used to eat very little meat, but I found that I couldn't lose weight. When I went to my doctor last summer, my blood tests revealed that my protein was very low and she told me that I needed to up my protein a lot. So I've been eating meat regularly since then and I have been able to drop over 40 lbs. I don't want to eat this much meat forever (even though clearly my body has needed it for awhile). Anyone have any tips or suggestions for losing the weight while eating less meat? Thanks!

My week has been crazy! I spent a lot of time at my dad's getting things packed and moved. It's been pretty emotional packing up my mom's things. (She passed away at the end of 2010.) I brought home some of my mom's furniture and things to my house. So I've had to get unpacked and rearranged at my house too. It's weird, but nice to see some of her things in my home now. (Her kitchen table, a couple of beds, her rocking chair and quilt rack, and curio cabinet.)

It's made me think about how much emotions play into this journey to better health. My husband and kids have been super supportive this week despite my roller coaster emotions right now. But I'm working through all those feelings and getting things together. It feels good to know that I've actually dealt with things.

I have a lot of friends who like to use a quick fad diet to lose a few pounds which then creep back on because they haven't really made a lifestyle change or dealt with the reasons why they gained weight in the first place.

What I thought was the most interesting was the list of what cravings really mean. Here an excerpt from the blog:

"A craving is your body's way of telling you you're lacking something. However, craving an enormous ice cream sundae with extra chocolate sauce doesn't mean you should eat it!

Here's a breakdown of what your cravings really mean:

Sweets/Candy
Your body's lacking Chromium, carbon phosphorus, sulphur, Tryptophan.

You can get these from:
Broccoli, grapes, cheese, chicken, fresh fruit, beef, liver, fish, eggs, dairy, nuts, legumes, cranberries, horseradish, kale, cabbage, turkey, sweet potato & spinach.

Bread
You need nitrogen.

You'll find this in:
High protein foods; fish, meats, nuts, beans.

Fatty snacks
You're lacking calcium.

Eat more:
Mustard, greens, dairy, legumes & sesame seeds.

Coffee
Your body's craving phosphorous, sulfur & iron.

Try eating more:
Chicken, beef, liver, fish, eggs, dairy, red peppers, garlic, onion, sea salt, apple vinegar, seaweed, greens & black cherries.

Carbonated drinks
You need more calcium.

Eat:
Mustard, broccoli, kale, legumes, dairy & sesame.
*If you crave a specific drink, this is an addiction, we'll talk about this later.

Salty foods
You need chloride.

Try and eat:
Goats milk, fish & unrefined sea salt.

Cigarettes
Obviously this is a physical addition to nicotine, but you can ease cravings by eating more silicon & tyrosine.

Eat more:
Nuts, seeds, citrus fruits, green vegetables.

PMS
Put down the chocolate, zinc is what you need young lady!

Get your hands on some:
Red meat, seafood, leafy vegetables, root vegetables, marmite or bovril."

FITNFUNJEN ~ OMG you are awesome... That "How to Lose 100 Pounds on a Crazy Schedule" article is EXACTLY what I've been looking for. My life is so hectic. From Friday to Sunday I work 21 to 35 hours in a restaurant. And that's just those 3 day. This article may help me to put together a plan that I can actually stick to.

Jen-glad you had a great week-end. Its so nice to have great girlfriends.
I have been tracking everyday and really paying attention to my food choices and drinking lots of water. Winter can sometimes be a tougher time to get in lots of water compared to the warmer mths. Hoping to see a loss this wk:)

I was out of town for the weekend having a reunion with my college girlfriends. There are 7 of us who became very close during our freshman and sophomore years. They all came to my house four years ago and this time we all went to Arizona where a couple of the women live. It was so refreshing to get together with such good women and to see that 20 years later, we all have so much in common. It was a very fun weekend!

I didn't track my food during my trip, but I did pay attention to what I was eating so that I didn't eat mindlessly. We also took a nice hike on Saturday. I found that I was one of the more fit women and found the hike easy. I weighed myself now that I'm home and I'm down from my last official WI on Wednesday. So it's nice that my trip didn't derail me from my goals.

Sounds yummy Barbi!

I am leaving tomorrow for a girls weekend away! So I won't be posting at all this weekend. But I will still try to track my food and exercise. I'm getting together with my college girls friends. (There are 7 of us.) And it's been four years since our last get together. It's going to be lots of fun! Hope everyone else has a great weekend too!

Good Afternoon,

Its been a nice week-end. It has snowed quite a bit which i actually don't mind since we haven't had a whole lot this season. Between one son playing basketball and the other son playing hockey that has kept this winter busy. Had a dinner party last night. Braised Ribs, Black bean soup and sweet potato oven fries. And for dessert a naughty brownie with peanut butter filling inside:) Burned it off by playing Kinnect Sports on the X-Box:)

Hope everyone had a nice week-end.
