Sorry to take so long to get back to you. He has written 2 books. One is on the disease called Crohn's and Colitis: Understanding the Facts About IBD and the second is a diet/cook book called Crohn's and Colitis Diet Guide: Includes 175 Recipes. I think those are the only two. They are pretty basic and good if you are newly diagnosed. I find that as far as food goes it is hit and miss as to what will bother. Now they have me on Creon as well because of my upper abdominal pain when I eat anything that has the least bit of fat and was down to fruit and veg only. Great for the upper GI pain but very constipating so fighting the balancing battle now.

Hello! I am new to the board and I saw your post about a book your doctor has written. What is the name of the book? I would like to look it up. Thanks so much! I saw the name of your doctor. Is that the only book he has written?

Thanks for your help!
Stephanie

I put this in another thread, thanks Sarah for suggesting I put it here as well. I just discovered that my doctor has written 2 books. They are very basic for the newly diagnosed on Crohn's and Colitis. Both start pretty much the same, describing the disease and treatments but one includes some recipies and the other includes some case studies. If you are interested his name is A. Hillary Steinhart and is at Mt. Sinai Hospital in Toronto.

I may have to add this to my LONG list of books on IBD owned. I wish I could try the SCD since I bought so many books on it, including cookbooks. Maybe someday.

UPS just dropped off my copy last night. I'll have to take it with me on my vacation. I can read it when trying to ditch my cousin. I'm glad to hear a good review on the book, it did sound interesting. I'll be sure to update this blog when I finish the book. Hope all is well with you.

I just got a new book (published March 2010) that I think has a lot of good information in one place. It's "IBD Self-Management" and is produced by the American Gastroenterological Association. Dr. Sunandra Kane, of the Mayo Clinic, is the author. My boyfriend just happens to work for AGA and gave me a copy. (When I first met him and found out where he worked, I found it hysterical! Fate must have brought us together. Hahahaha!)

Anyway, what I like is Kane's no-nonsense approach and the wealth of basic information. There's a great chart that lists all, and I mean all, of the medications currently used to treat IBD; it goes on for several pages. I'm only about halfway through; and even though there's a lot of stuff I already know, I'm really glad to have this to add to my collection of books about IBD and UC.

It's available on amazon.com for less than $13 (regularly $19), but it might also be available in libraries.
