Woke up to snow and cold wind. Sure does not inspire me to walk. will do back stretches tho think I can do the exercises PT gave me now too. I will walk inside too. Had put my boots and cleats away but kept my warmer clothes out. Snow forecast for Wed. and Thurs. too. Sure does not inspire me to go outside, saw enuff ice and snow all winter. Craziest weather all winter i have ever seen up here, winter, spring, summer days, strange.
Need to get back to my doctor's weight management teachings, no sugar, no white stuff, exercise, it works but I have not been faithful to it. He quit family practice and went in to teaching weight management and goes to hospitals around the area and meets with other doctors. He was my doctor and I really miss him. He had an evening class during winters that was getting bigger and bigger but he stopped them sorry to say.
On with the day, daughter left me directions for a beef roast in the crockpot with veggies, sounds good for a cold icky gloomy day. Need to walk brandy but need s push to get me out the door!! Have a great day andhope you see sunshine. emoticon emoticon

I did not know you were from England, very interesting. I live in northern Minnesota up by the Canadian Border and it is 29 degrees this morning, been bad weather for weeks with a few nice days thrown in, gets frustrating. Yesterday was nice but the cold wind was so bad you couldn't rake etc. This week is all low temps, maybe rain and maybe winter mix . Flowers coming up and birds singing but not nice spring weather.
Today is a rest day for me, I need to re- organize my days. I will walk inside do my back stretches before i start heavier exercises. Trying to do the fiber challenge.
I am also beyond the 50s, turned 76 in March but still moving.

Hello on Sunday , my eldest son flew back to Ireland yesterday . Leaving a lot of spices and fresh herbs in my kitchen, also enouragment in carrying in walking and eating healthier . He needs to lose weight and get blood pressure down. So he's very strict with himself and with me while he was here, I am taking a lot of it on board but I am older and recovering from major surgery so I will adapt it to suit me .
It's sunny here in middle England but is cooler. A good day for the London marathon ,
Enjoy your day what ever you do, gardening ! Walking., running, or rekaxing at home this Sunday , Irene emoticon

Cool but warmer and sunny yesterday and today warmer and partly cloudy but the coming forecasts again with the winter mix coming. Only in northern Minnesota can it be 70 one day and in the 30s for the high the next day??? Everybody wanting to get the gardens tilled etc. and we can't even leave plants outside and not looking good for the coming weeks! emoticon At least we can walk outside again, I think? Walking inside is no fun, I like to be outside after this winter that never seems to end. Oh well, walk niow and enjoy whil emoticon e we can.

Yesterday was another day of pouring rain but missed the 1 to 3 inches of snow. Another day with no walk with Brandy, I walked inside but not much ambition. So wonderful to see the sun this morning.

Will look at Dash diet , , thanks. Phil loves cooking so he usually makes up his own meals. He's walking a lot too, an hour early morning starts him off. I don't join in that one .thats my internet hour but I walk later with him . I like to have a target to aim at in walking. Today its a thrift shop I haven't got to in two years as it's been just too far fir me to walk to. That's my aim today. I dont drive now , by the way, rep moving !

Sciatica is better and life is finally calmed down around here. The weekend and days after very hectic and sometimes stressful. Too much food. Off to the freezer and give away. Rained hard and cold all day yesterday, snow/rain forecast but hope we can resume walking today and get back to exercises. Strange how fast things can go upside down.Back to walking in the house and brandy outside, weight is not coming off even tho she spent time at the lake that wears her out. sparking with Brandy, my partner!!

Raining this morning. I hope Brandy and I can get a walk in. I will make a smoothie this morning as one banana needs to be used. I do use protein powder, ground flax seed, fruit, yogurt, etc. I found some Brewer's yeast lost in the cupboard and wheat germ I probably should be using. I will be walking in the house as well as doing stretches keeping the back happy. So far so good.
I am beyond 50 as well, just turned 76 and trying to keep muscles etc. moving. I used to do the chair exercises and have saved one to do, I need some upper body work.
Happy Easter to everyone and hope everyone has nice weather to enjoy. Georgine

Reading some of the posts, it's time to try some smoothies and whatever else I can to regain some of the motivation and energy that I seem to have lost. I get so tired most days. If anyone has suggestions, I'm up for anything at this point.

God grant me the serenity to change the things I can, to accept the things I cannot change, and the wisdom to know the difference.

Mid week chat . I am not team leader but I go by the Beyound 50 part of the name, I am well beyound 5O . Our healthy aims carry on no matter how old we are,
I am giving myself a small challenge a day . So far it's drinking more water, exercising daily , planning and preparing meals better . Today I plan to go through two feeezers to see what healthy eating food is in stock and what I need to buy .
Interesting how we start our day .
My breakfast is two scoops of oat meal with fresh fruit cut up on it and soya milk ,

Have a good day. Irene

The smoothies are a great no-fuss way of getting an easy meal substitute.

I start the day with a 500ml mug with 1 tablespoon each of glutamine, gelatin, coffee and psyllium husk, plus a diet shake mix, hot water and about 1/3 cup of milk

This easily sustains me til lunchtime
Cheers

Trying to get back to teams. So many are inactive now than when I started. I was care taking for a long time so was not able to keep up. I will delete the inactive ones and try to be active on the rest.
Read some of the posts. I use ground flax seed in my smoothies and use the protein powder and have no problem with the taste. I do use half and half in my coffee, no milk drinkers so milk spoils. Don't drink a lot of coffee and am not heavy on the cream. A small treat, I can't stand black coffee or those sweet creamers.
Try to walk my dog every day but got side tracked by sciatica but doing better and had a nice walk today.
I am 76, too old for this team?? I sure am beyond!!
Have a good day. Beautiful sunny and clear and 49 defgrees is far norhtern Minnesota.

Hello on Monday . Sorry Paula feels the team is not for her, I hope she finds one that is ideal. I have left teams in the past So I understand ,
I see .Monday's as new starts in many ways , I am trying to set myself a small challenge per day this week , today is planning and preparing three good meals. Drink lots then I can't possible feel hungry to want snacks btween meals ! That's the plan anyway .so far so good.
I just had to deal with my bank over a mix up, I got so wound up and upset I hardly temembered ny name never mind memorable numbers . It was sorted out eventually by phone . I immediately thought then I need a cup of coffee . Not food I noticed. Black unsweetened coffee dealt with my immediate needs,
Have a good day . Irene

Sorry all but as this team is no longer meeting my needs I feel the time has come for me to leave it would be unfair to the leader to stay in a team and not be active.

No offense meant to anyone. Just it's time for me leave. good luck each and everyone one of you in reaching all your goals weight loss, weight maintenance and others.

Take care,

Just added a new flower to my husband's ashes pot. It is a ceramic Poppy . They are mainly used in remberance day displays but I love poppies and sure Maurice would aporeciate a special one in his pot. This morning my son Mike and I plus dgd Amy went to the huge national memorial park it's full of memorials to anyone who died in any conflict since 1945 , they are touching ,emotional yet make you feel proud too,
I walked miles round but had rests too and really enjoyed bring out on such a lovely day in an amazing place .

yes brought the whole seeds yesterday in a packet will either add them whole or grind them myself in my coffee grinder. though I think they would have more health benefits added whole. I think the health benefits change when ground up? Pre-soaking is also a great idea.

I will be in and mostly out most of the weekend so will be still on but be more active on spark people come Monday I hope.

Happy weekend!

True, ground flax-seed can oxidise quickly
It would be good to find a shop that could grind for you
or just add whole to smoothie mix, maybe after presoaking

Heading out this morning to get a few things done. Trying to find organic flax seeds is very difficult can find flax meal everywhere but flax seeds organic not so easy. Flax seeds in their whole form not broken down into flax meal has far more nutrients in it the process to make it a meal loses lots.

There's a health food store not my usual one but another one near my daughter's work. I'm going there to get some so that I can add it to my super food mix for my breakfast smoothies. Will hopefully be making it up tomorrow.

Wow your garden sounds lovely Irene. Do you have any pictures you care to share with us! Would love to see those pot plants and apple trees.

I have my cleaner who comes once a fortnight coming today. It only costs me $7.00 a fortnight under a government scheme here in Brisbane called Nextt. Because of my hip osteoarthritis I am entitled to the service which is great. I am allowed 1&1/2 hours a fortnight so I get my ensuite bathroom and toilet cleaned and the floors vacuumed and mopped.

After that I am heading out to get some grocery shopping done.

Anyhow have a great day everyone and keep smiling,

Have some general cleaning and stuff to get through around the house today. Dusting the whole house and cleaning of the main bathroom and toilet.

Our cleaner comes tomorrow and is only allowed to clean one bathroom that I use mainly under the scheme so she cleans our en suite bathroom and toilet. I have to do the other. like to do that the day before she comes.

I also hope to get out in the front garden later today. As it is hard for me to manage with my hips I am planning to weed and dig the garden over then put in a few more rose bushes in before I put the weed mat down that I brought the other day. then my husband will get some Cyprus mulch I think it is on the weekend with the trailer to put on top and that should be nice and tidy.

May even put another frangipani in at one end to balance it out a bit I'll see and perhaps another lavender. But first things first today is to get it weeded.

anyhow that's my plans for today. Have a great day all.

emoticon Richard, still looking at what is great for my blood type etc... to see what else I could add to the mix. Don't want to have something and be spending money on organics that can potentially be doing more harm than good.

Love the idea of the muffin or pancake idea something I never thought of. Just rang mum and mentioned it to her and she said which I agree totally, you are full of good ideas. emoticon

Paula,
That sounds like an awesome mix you are making up.
I have a supply of trail mix that I have some together with fruit salad and yoghurt some days.

With your mix you could also use it in your baking and perhaps have a muffin or enhanced pancakes together with 1 of your meals as I know you dont snack.

Cheers

Hi all,

Today I'm going to be looking more into my Nomad GenoType and my Liver Body Type. What I am wanting to find out is some super food ingredients that I can have ready to go in a jar that I can add 1/4 cup of it to my daily health shake.

I'm thinking things along the lines of using my Bamix coffee grinder attachment to grind walnuts / almonds and flax seeds, Plus adding into the jar some things like chia seeds, organic ginger powder, hemp seeds, organic turmeric powder, oat bran.

I might add a few more things to this mix. Doing more research today. By having it already ground up in a glass jar mixed and ready to go it will be awesome. I'll be able to have 1/4 cup, add my herbs from the garden and my two frozen fresh fruits to it with 1 and half cups of oat milk and blend it together.

i'm looking carefully at what I am putting in. What some may say as super foods or really good are not good on my blood type, geno type or Liver body type. So I am making this mix up especially for me.

I've looked at the organic ones in the health food stores and a lot of them contain things I should not have.

This will be awesome. Perhaps someone else in the team may like to try and make a mix up for yourself. Smoothies are great in winter and summer.

Anyhow I had best get started on my research. My washing will be finished and ready to hang out soon and i have a million other things needed to be down round the house today.

Have s Super Tuesday and keep healthy and keep reaching your goals little by little.

KEEP SMILING,

Paula emoticon
