Congratulations!

I've always said that, it's not about the speed, it's about the bling at the end. ;)

There have been races where I've received a place award, even 1st place, for my age group, and joked that I must have been the only one in my group. At last season's Distance Challenge, my daughter even ended up in my age group, and she's only 28! Fortunately, the race Director fixed that, lol.

Sure, we're the Slow Fat Runners, but, we're still out there proving to ourselves that we're athletes with a little meat on our bones, and just as strong and determined as our stick figure running/walking buddies.

Love it!!! I won a second place once in my age group because there were only 2 of us in the group and I was dead last in the race. At first I was just kind of embarassed but then thought about it and decided to be proud of it! We know what we've accomplished to be there and to get out there and do it!

I competed in my first 5 mile race this weekend. I have completed a 2 mile, 5k, and 4 mile and finished last in all. My motto is "Someone has to finish last!" It doesn't bother me. Well, during this 5 mile, I knew I finished last. To add a little more insult, the coordinators were awarding the door prizes before I was able to enter the area (you had to be present to win). When they finished the door prizes, they had an update for 3rd place in the women's category. It was ME! I actually was awarded a medal for 3rd place! There obviously were not many people competing in the race; more people did the "walk" or 2 mile run. Even though I was last in the entire race, I still won the 3rd place medal. So even though we are the Slow Fat Runners, you might still win a medal in one of those races. It sure made me feel pretty darn good!

Put one foot in front of the other and soon you'll be walking out the door!
