Well, I went for another run this morning. I paid close attention to my form and to the route (very limited up hill runs). I had no repeat of that pain. I was able to do the run a lot better.

I will continue to watch this. Thanks for the advice.

Emily,

Do you have a sports therapist or a sports medicine professional to consult? That should be your first order of business.

Any number of factors could be in play, such as the way you slept, your form, the terrain, muscle weakness (common), sitting in a chair all day, over-training (typical), you need an alignment, your feet...who knows. You need a proper diagnosis.

Breathing differently could cause a side stitch, but that doesn't quite fit what you described, and it can be remedied on the run.

Please get checked by your physician, chiropractor - anyone who understands runners!

As I was running last night, I got a pretty severe cramp in the left side of my low back. It didn't keep me from finishing my run, but MAN did it zap my stamina. Do you think this can be corrected by changing my form, breathing differently, etc? Your advice is really appreciated.

I just mapped my route and I am pretty sure we ran like 2.8 miles. I have a 5K in just under 3 weeks, so I am starting to feel more prepared. Even with that pain, I could push for another half mile to a mile. I just want to NOT have pain when I run.

Thanks.
