INGREDIENTS: Salt and sea salt crystals, special high flavor yeast, hydrolyzed vegetable protein, mellow toasted onion, onion powder, orange powder, soy flour, celery leaf powder, celery root powder, garlic powder, dill, kelp, Indian curry, horseradish, ripe white pepper, orange and lemon peel, summer savory, mustard flower, sweet green and red peppers, parsley flakes, tarragon, rosehips, saffron, mushroom powder, parsley powder, spinach powder, tomato powder, sweet Hungarian paprika, celery powder, cayenne pepper, plus a delightful herbal bouquet of the best Greek oregano, French sweet basil, French marjoram, French rosemary, and Spanish thyme.

I just modified my recipe: in stead of using all black beans I mixed it up, half black beans and half soy beans. That gave it a different flavor and both ways are DELICIOUS.

Oh, and if you like your burgers a little spicy, chop half a jalapeno pepper in the mixture. Adding a teaspoon or two of curry would make it spicy too.

Here is my personal recipe, which is easy and tasty. Even the most inept cook would not fail at this one.

Black Bean Burgers

2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cups chopped onion
1 cup chopped green peppers
3 cloves garlic, minced (or teaspoon garlic powder)
1 teaspoon salt (or to taste)
3/4 teaspoon ground allspice
teaspoon paprika
3/4 teaspoon ground ginger
2 large mushrooms, chopped
2 1/4 cups cooked (or two 14.5 oz cans) black beans, rinsed and drained
2 1/4 cups partially cooked long-grain brown rice
2 1/2 cups dry bread crumbs

Heat 1 tablespoon of olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Drop onions, peppers, and garlic in skillet, cook, and stir for a few minutes. Remove from the heat and transfer to a bowl. Pour the remaining ingredients into bowl, mixing thoroughly using your hands and ensuring to completely mash up the beans.

Form into 10 patties and place in the refrigerator long enough to get cold. They hold better that way.You can make more if you make the patties smaller, or make fewer if you prefer bigger patties. Heat the remaining oil. Fry the patties until golden on each side, about 10 minutes total.

I tried and failed miserably at making a carrot and lentil burger. It might have been because I haven't perfected the art of making lentils. There are tons of yummy-looking bean burger recipes in Spark Recipes. I've seen many black bean and chickpea burgers there.

I'm going to Jackson this weekend and visiting one of my favorite burger places, Cool Al's. They have THE BEST veggie burgers ever--all are hand made to order and include Jamaican spices, lentils, black beans, onions, etc. They are so flavorful and have generous portions (I can't finish one on my own).

Has anyone ever made their own veggie burger? I can't drive almost 2 hours every time I want one and I've been thinking lately it might be a good recipe to hone over the next few months. PLus you can always make a big batch and freeze them.

When im eating a black bean patty i like for it to taste a little spicy but when im eating a boca burger,etc i like for it to taste similar to the real thing!

I love chipotle tabasco sauce because I like smokey and spicey. Spike seasoning is good, too. Sometimes, I sprinkle some mesquite seasoning on a veggie burger with a little vegan mayo and pickles. What is your tast preference when your eating a burger?
