Thanks Bev. I like the challenge of a new pattern and finding a way to sew it up that makes it easier. Its like putting a puzzle together and I like puzzles. I dont work on puzzles much because they consume me. This is the time of year though.
No football yesterday. We went to see Midway. The movie was good but if you aren't familiar with the events starting with Pearl Harbor and on to Midway, it could be a bit confusing. In the first Midway movie with Henry Fonda as Admiral Nimitz, they would identify the person with his name on the screen. They did and didn't in this new one but I followed along. At the AMC movie in Destin Commons, all showings prior to 12:00 noon are only $5 so we try to go then. Movies are so expensive by the time you add popcorn and a drink. Carol

Linda, LOVE the flower! I may have to do some art quilts now.

Carol, your attention to detail makes you a good pattern tester.

This morning I sorted out my closet, glad that's done for winter. Then washed some fabric that came in to finish my friend's quilt, made a few Christmas swap gifts and draw string bags, then vacuumed the sewing room and down stairs. After lunch I cleaned bathrooms and watched part of the Auburn game. When hubby got home we managed to get a walk in before dark.

Nancy you will like the class. I'm up after not coughing much last night thanks to Nyquil. Hubby gave me the chest crud, guess my defenses were down. We hope to be able to go to the movie today, Midway. I got my new Cpap yesterday. Its nice to have a new one and new hose. I'm packing the old one away and maybe reserve it for trips away. Not that we are taking very many. My sons kids were very happy to see him yesterday. He took his daughter for a manicure. She, at almost five, loves her fingers now!
I did work on the tester quilt and hope to finish up one of the blocks, set of 9. Then start on the second set of 6. Its a complicated pattern and I"m trying to help her with the writing of it and sewing up the pieces. I need to get a good deal of this done prior to the mystery on Friday. Carol

Bev, pic is on the wall. I can't seem to get it into this thread unless I use my Nook.

Amy, we got sun yesterday too. Made the day so much better. They're talking rain and maybe snow today. The farmers really do not need this now.

Darius, is this your last UFO? You are awesome. We love having you, thanks for joining in.

Carol, you take care of yourself.

Nancy, that class sounds like a lot of fun. I have seen some interesting panels.

Amy, that sounds like a lot of work to me. I'd love to know her reaction when she gets the cat quilt.

Linda, picture please, or did I miss it?

Got up early and baked my squash casserole for the pot luck, then headed to the arena. All 3 classes came and got lots of walking. Picked up some more 2 side fusible Pelon on my way home, then feed the neighborhood dog before the rain started. Then managed to get laundry done.

I've seen some beautiful hexie and panel quilts on facebook. I did one with a Santa that was cute. Its a lot of work but fun to see how they are going to turn out. Not sure I want to do another. Right now, I just have to work on the tester quilt for Kitchen Table Quilting to get far along on it before the Mystery comes out. I know when it hits, Bonnie Hunter will have us doing 125 4 patches right off the bat or something like that. Carol

Darius--always nice to have another person to chat with!
Bev--glad those crowns are working well.
Nancy--your upcoming project sounds wonderful. I really like Monet. You will have to show us pictures.

I really did not get much done yesterday except for the machine sewing of the binding to the UFO I'm working on. Today, I got a good start on things I have been putting off. I am defrosting the downstairs refrigerator. I want it to be fresh to start defrosting the turkey. I also mailed the cat quilt to my friend. It will be a big surprise to her when she gets it. I did banking/bill paying too.

Yesterday I signed up for a class at a LQS. My quilt club has first priority, and then it will be open to others. The class is called "Hexified Panel One Block Wonder. (OBW)" I purchased 7 panels of the same design. One panel will be the center of the quilt. The remaining 6 panels will be layered on top of each other, cut into strips, and then cut into 60-degree triangles as in the OBW technique, so you have 6 identical copies of each triangle. The same-design triangles are then sewn together into a hexagon, forming a kaleidoscope design. Next will come the fun part of arranging all the hexies around the panel. I've seen some stunning quilts made from this technique. My panel is a Monet print of a girl with an umbrella. The class starts in January.

We are glad to have you Darius. New quilting ideas and pics are always nice. So glad you have teeth now Bev. What a mess that was. I'm home to day except going to get a new CPAP which is overdue. My husband and I have spent considerable time coughing last night so did not sleep well. Today is better so far. Going to the drug store for meds as we have used everything up. This is not the same as the near pneumonia I had last month. Just a head cold and hope it leaves soon.
So I hope to be sewing on the Tester quilt Ella from Kitchen Table Quilting. It is a complicated pattern where the strips appear woven but there are a lot of strips. My advice to her was to number them all and identify where they go as I was getting confused. She has done that and now I am sewing some blocks together and will have some more ideas for her. Pressing directions etc.

Linda, I hate when things like that happen. Glad you got it sorted out.

Carol, congrats on the ribbon! I love the doxie and look forward to seeing it finished.

Carrie, so glad they can manage the seizures now. I'm sure as he grows doses will have to be adjusted, but He is in control and answers prayers.

Darius, you are making great progress.

Linda, I love it! I will never forget "undies" and "overies" . That is precious.

Amy, the new crowns are wonderful!! I have one more tooth with a very old filling and it will probably have to be crowned before too long. But I am now a happy camper. I've been letting the layers grow out in my hair, but not sure I'm going to like it. May just get it cut again.

Today was the last day to work at the food bank for Christmas Food Basket sign up. After lunch I did some errands. Youngest DD called and asked me to come wait for their new freezer delivery cause she had to take SIL to the dentist, so of course I did. Got home and took an extra long walk (cause it was beautiful out), and made pistachio salad, squash casserole, and oatmeal cookies for pot luck at the arena tomorrow.

Carrie--good to hear that your grandson is now stable. Do keep in mind that as he grows and gains weight, those medications will need dose adjustments by the doctors (this is normal and not always an indication of disease progression).

Linda--your project time will be fun tonight! It sounds like an interesting project.

Bev--how are the new crowns working out?

I managed to get a haircut yesterday, but I think it was more of a trim and won't last very long. I should make the binding soon before I get out of the mood!

Sounds like fun Linda! My class yesterday was BJ Designs Dachshund. The dog has 37 odd shaped pieces that require different fabrics. You have to iron the steam a seam onto the wrong side of the fabric. I made one wrong and then vowed not to make that mistake again. The other lady did all of her whites incorrectly. Not sure what she did. After a few hours, I was saturated and had the system down so I packed up and left. I have homework to finish all the pieces and iron them onto a pattern before Dec 3. I hope it doesn't conflict with a doctor appmt. I have another cancer check up on Monday. Seems redundant but I guess I'm grateful that they are keeping tabs on me.
I showed the pattern to hubby and he wanted all browns for the dog. So I made a colorful background to showcase the browns. Carol bjdesignsandpatterns.com/col

I have my pieces ready to press and put together AGAIN! Didn't finish last night as we were just tired (and of course, then I couldn't sleep worth a darn). I did come up with a plan of putting a light pencil mark on the back in the "undies". Undies is what Grace called the areas that go under another piece. She called the parts that go over "overies"! She was a hoot. Plan is to work on that tonight after work. Hubby has a meeting and dinner is on my own.

Good Morning,
No, not for Christmas. These are all basically UFOs. Things that I should have been working on for the last couple years.

Finished 10 more blocks. Have to fix another two. Then 6 more and blocks are done.

Happy quilting:)

Amy - I say that getting some quilting done is great! Glad your package arrived.

Linda - So Frustrating!

Carol - emoticon

Bev - emoticon for getting the last of your crowns done. I bet you are glad that is done!
I have tossed (gasp) - I always feel guiltyto do so.

My grandson will always have daily seizures, but they are at least able to manage them now. He hasn't had any clusters and rescue meds since the 12th and that was the goal for him to be able to go home.

Yesterday I spent most of the day cleaning and getting the house back in order. When that was done, I loaded and quilted a quilt for Saruni. It felt good to be able to quilt again. Last night was Community Group.

Linda--that is so frustrating! I can feel it from here. Get back to the project and you will have double the satisfaction when it is finished.

Carrie--good news that your grandson is home. Were they able to get the seizures under control?

Carol--congratulations and glad to hear Wally is doing better.

I really didn't get much done yesterday. Wasted time waiting for a package to arrive and thankfully it did make it yesterday. I did finish the quilting part on the next top. I just meandered the whole thing but switched colors for the outer border. Binding will be next.

Linda I feel your pain on the glue and the pieces! Hope it wasn't a big project! My little house wall hanging won first place at guild last night! I was so excited. There were only 4 entires and 3 prizes. I was sure I was coming in last. Its $50 of quilting money I get to spend. Taking a class today with a BJ design Dachshund wall hanging. In honor of all the Doxies we have hand but especially for Wally. Wally is doing better with his eyes. Lots of drops to keep up with, 3 different kinds. Carol

Got my bookwork done yesterday. Goal is to keep at it daily. I also worked a bit on my project from last weeks guild workshop. Got things ready before I left for work, was very careful about putting the glue on the correct side, left it to dry. Went in there last night and pressed to activate the glue, went to start laying it out and all the pieces were backwards! How could that be? I was so careful. Since I'd activated the glue, pieces weren't any good--so threw them away and started over (after I'd tried to wash glue out) As I'm cutting the other pieces, I laid one down and heck! Wrong again! That can't be. That's when I realized I had my pattern upside down. I wasted all those pieces and all that time for nothing. The plastic now has top marked on it! emoticon

Carol, glad he is back job hunting. They are few and far between around here. I'm sure she will love the quilt.

Darius, you have been busy. Are they for Christmas gifts?

Carrie, I am so glad he got to go home! I'm sure the other kids are happy to be back home.

Linda, bookwork is the worst part of any job.

Started my morning off by dusting baseboards and vacuuming upstairs. Then had a dentist appointment and got the last 2 permanent crowns (they are all in now). After lunch I played in the sewing room. Made another game for the arena and did some sorting and (gasp) tossing of fabrics. It was such a lovely day, I took an extra long walk before making dinner. Also made a chicken casserole for family dinner tomorrow.

Oh, Carrie, that is wonderful. I hope he continues to be well. Such a scary time. Did not get to sew at all yesterday but I did cut a lot of fabric squares and created several backs and quilt tops with backs while quilting with the Lutherans. One of our members frequents yard sales. She doesn't sew but whenever she sees fabric, she gets it cheap or gets it donated. She came in with several partial bolts and 3 or 4 decorator bolts of fabric 2 sundays ago. I already emptied 3 of the bolts. And cut a bunch of Waverly squares. I dont know what that person made with the Waverly fabrics but the scraps she sent us were really odd shapes. Swags maybe?
Tonight is guild which is not our usual night. I need to sew up a block to take with me. And remember my challenge piece and show and tell.
Hubby and son were on call with the Funeral HOme last night and I heard them up after midnight, getting dressed to go out. They are still abed, as my MIL used to say. Carol

Darius, would love to see a pic of the slippers. Had a good day wtih the quilters at church. Our interim Pastors wife is having breast cancer surgery on Wed. I took a card in for all of us to sign it and I had a finished lap quilt that I donated to the guild. We gave that to her along with the card. Hope she likes it. Carol

Remember I told you it was cold here last week? Not as cold as Illinois but cold for us. It has now warmed up into the 60's again during the day. Last night we went to Sonny's Bar-b-q for dinner and the waitress was laughing at the guy next to us in his Fl attire. He was wearing a t-shirt and shorts with flip flops and topped off with a light jacket. I draw the line at the flip flops. Around here you can wear anything anywhere at anytime.
Son has gotten some confidence back with job hunting. He is doing some online work at the funeral home today but plans on visiting chamber of commerce president and the city manager to drop off resumes.

Amy, quiet weekends are a good thing.

Carol, you are right, money is coming in. Congratulations on your 1 year anniversary! Hope Ruth recovers well. Congratulations on your new preacher. Ours was in town to close on his house and came to Giving Thanks dinner.

Went to church this morning, then got in a walk after lunch. Stopped and checked on neighbors before heading to Giving Thanks dinner.

Oh, please Bev. He already has two batchelors degrees. He'll find a job and a good one. At least money is coming in. It was one year ago last week that I had my breast cancer surgery. ONe year down!
Church was interesting today. One of our 80 something members slumped in her seat and wasn't responsive. It was right before the sermon and after the gospel. Pastor waited, said a few prayers and we all waited for the ambulance to arrive. We could hear the sirens coming and Pastor would break in every now an then with a prayer for Ruth. EMS came and took her to the hospital. Once she got some oxygen she seemed to recover some. So Pastor ditched his prepared sermon and related the gospel to the events of the day. It was quite moving and quite an experience.
We did get some good news. The Call Committee has made a Pastoral decision and he is coming this week to meet with council and with the congregation next Sunday. Pastor let a "he" drop and did not follow with a "she" so we are assuming it is a "he" pastor. Quite a day for us.
No one is home, son is out so maybe he is having some fun with friends. Or working. Not much sewing going on. Carol

Carol, hope Wally does well. Perhaps your son should go to mortuary school.

I worked till noon today, then after lunch we went for a hike. It was nice to be back on the trails again. When we got home we did a short walk to feed the neighborhood stray. That was about all I felt like doing today.

Our poor little dog, Wally, has glaucoma and gets 3 kinds of drops all day long it seems. Hope it works but his eye is puffy around it. We love that dog so much, our favorite. Goes for a check up today. With dog expenses and helping out with the sons families, we are strapped. My quilting budget has taken a hit. I used to run everything through my business but dont have that option anymore. Son seems to not mind the job at the funeral home which is interesting. Better than teaching I guess. At least the clients don't talk back. There is an opening at the Chamber of Commerce coming up that he would be perfect for. We shall see on that one. I'm sending him down on Monday to talk to the exec.
Did not get to sew yesterday. That I can recall. Carol

Carol, glad he is working. It's been getting down to the 20's here. Glad hubby cancelled his hiking trip. Hope you like the new pastor candidate.

Linda, you will be ready for a vacation after this weekend.

Meg, I'm glad you took a picture, too. That is beautiful!

Got to play with my "littles" at the arena today. They have learned it is fun to go fast, so when they finish their class they get to trot. We trotted a lot today. Came home for lunch and a quick shower, then had my ophthalmology appointment. Got a new prescription for glasses and had retina pictures taken. Pressure is up, so gotta come back in 6 months. Eyes are still a bit dilated but did manage a walk before dinner.

Carrie - I am so sorry to hear about your grandson. I hope that this next medicine works and his poor little brain can get a break.

Linda - Enjoy your time with your grandkids and the other grandma this weekend. Hopefully interesting in a good way and not because you and the other grandma don't really get along. :)

Amy - Wishing you a productive day today.

Bev - I don't remember who said it, but you really do keep busy doing a bit of everything every day. I have some chicken carcasses in the freezer that I need to get in a pot to make stock and I've been putting it off.

Carol - Best of luck with the new pastor. I hope you like him/her. If your son's wife isn't happy that she's been left alone with 3 kids, is that an opportunity for your son to get custody? Or at least 50/50 custody? Or is there any chance at all for a reconciliation? If she works retail and he works part time that's going to be financially devastating for them to divorce.

I've been sewing rows together on the MBR quilt. After laying it out, even if I didn't originally intend to increase the size, it does need a border to ground the quilt. Should be finished the top this weekend.

Glad I took that picture the other day. Because Griff snuck through the baby gate and went block surfing this morning.

19 this morning. Supposed to be sunny and above freezing today. Oh, I hope so. Tomorrow we are heading down to STL. Taking the older grands and helping the other grandma take care of Alex (1 1/2) and Olivia (3). This should be an interesting weekend. Probably won't get any sewing at all done this weekend. And I have lots I need to button up!

Today is fruitcake making day. Should have already done it. I have a recipe for a golden fruitcake that you make in a 10 inch tube pan. It is huge but I have several folks who really love it, myself included. And a few barbershop singers who covet it. I have to go to the store for golden raisins. Hubby got the brown ones and the goldens are better in this cake. But today is the day. When it is cooked it goes in the fridge for several weeks before we eat it.
The call committee at church has made a Pastor selection. Its all still a secret and now it goes before the Church Council for approval and have him/her come in to meet the congregation before its a done deal. They are hoping for January for us to have a new Pastor.
I mailed the box of fabric to Jo Kramer yesterday, $20. Hope she appreciates it but I appreciate getting it out of the house.
Might get some sewing in today. CArol

It's cold here. Freezing rain. Probable 30's tonight. Can't wait for this to pass and it warms up again. It's actually 43 but I have to drag out a coat. Sheesh. Carol

Carrie--you are one super busy woman! You have a ton on your plate right now. Your grandson's situation does not sound very good. Sometimes not knowing the future is the most difficult part. Hang in there and prayers are said for you and your family.

Bev--it is so nice that you help out at the arena. I am also hoping that the new crowns will finally work out!

Carol--good that your son got a job. Your DIL should have considered the consequences before the separation. This is hard on everyone...not just her! Good that your son is feeling a bit better. He really needed a change.

Not much got done yesterday. Maybe today will be a bit better.

Bev, I seldom drive in the winter weather anymore. Have seen too many accidents to be comfortable. Thankfully, hubby doesn't have the same problem as I do.

Carrie, prayers for your grandson and your family. Hope they are able to get his seizures straightened out.

Son is working part time with the funeral home doing removals at night. At least money is coming in. Had his first removal this morning. He is planning to go see his kids next weekend. The wife is not very happy with him, being left with 3 kids and working retail. It sounds terrible that he left but his mental health has improved considerably.
Going to Arts and Crafts at church today. And then another doctor appointment. I dont think I have any next week. Tonight is Olive Garden guild retreat meeting.
Hoping Carrie's grandson improves. Carol

Linda, you be careful driving. Look forward to your report.

Carol, it does pay to know people.

Carrie, wish I were there to help. What a wonderful thing your grand daughter is doing for her mom. I'm sure she will love it. So sorry to hear about the seizures and pray the new meds will be the answer.

This morning I did some sewing and finished laundry. Also stewed a chicken for casserole and soup. The arena was short handed for the 2:00 class, so helped with that and still got in a short walk before making family dinner.

Good Morning - I have missed being active here. These last couple of weeks have been a whilrwind. My grandkids are with their parents today having a family day at the Butterfly Pavilion. So, I have some quiet time to catch up on things. Their baby brother is still in the hospital and is on a roller coaster of good days and bad days.. He has a somewhat good day (only 20-25 seizures & 3-4 rescue meds), then the next day is horrible with 30+ seizures. The doctors are still working on trying to manage the seizures and starting a new combination which takes 1-2 weeks to get the old out of his system and the new full strength. The protocol for him to be released from the hospital is 0-1 rescues and no IV meds.

Therefore I have been extremely busy taking care of his 5 siblings and homeschooling them. I will be working on getting this last months grades recorded onto the tracker which their mom just showed me how.

I haven't been able to do much sewing - just a little here and a little there. I did manage to complete one top for Saruni and almost finished binding another. My sister dropped by three tops that need to be quilted and bound. And I need to make another quilt. The total amount had been 13 by Thanksgiving, now it is 15 by Christmas. I am glad for the extension since it has been crazy here.

Also, in the process I have been helping my granddaughters sew. The oldest took some waste HST's I had cut off from the quilt I am binding and made a 12" square. She did her own design. She was going to make pinwheels, but sewed some "wrong". Then because of a sign I have hanging in my sewing room "Quilter's don't make mistakes, just variations" She decided she was just going to sew however and put it together. Then we cut out 24 12" blocks to make a quilt top. She did all the sewing and planning. I am proud of her intiative and she is getting pretty good at doing a 1/4" seam. She is making this quilt for her parents.

The 8year granddaughter wanted to learn how to handsew. So she made a small stuffed animal. The 7 year old wants a cape and we are sewing it together.

I have been in the process of decluttering for the last couple of months in preparation for my oldest daughter and her family moving in with us on Dec 3. We moved furniture around in the bedrooms on Saturday to make more space for everyone. Especially as it looks like we probably will have around 9extra people living with my husband and I - so much for being empty -nesters!

My step count has been great and even though I don't formerly exercise I get a lot of it going up and down stairs and running after the kids.

Just googled Grace, Linda. Very intriguing! Bev, you are a good neighbor! Our temps hit the 30's and the heat has come on. I am confident this is only a fleeting moment. 12 degrees is a bit much for me. You have to have quite an investment in winter clothing, coats, hats and gloves. And boots. And snow tires. My hibiscus bush is going to freeze this year I think. But come back next year.
I finished the Tree quilt top. I will put it away until I figure if I want to make it larger or not.
Son had a good day yesterday and made contact with the country HR group. We live in a small community although the whole county population has 203,000. We have a very large military base right in the middle of the county that uses a lot of land mass. Thank goodness or it would be all filled up. To get back to my story, if you are active in the community with Chambers of Commerce and business activities and participation, you can become well known. So we put him in touch with people we know and let him perform. Hopefully he can get some meaningful employment.
Today is a home day except Dr appmt at 9:40. Wally goes to see his dr at 9:30. Carol

It's 12 degrees this morning with a windchill of -4. Sheesh! It's only November! Good thing is the sun is supposed to be out and hopefully it will take care of some of these slick spots on roads.
Everything packed for the workshop. My girlfriend was in charge of this program and she is a bit of a perfectionist so she's been stressing big time. She needs to BREATHE! I will try to take pics and tell you all about it tonight or tomorrow.
