Yesterday I saw all of the tree and limb debris piled up along the sidewalk curbs. I imagine a mulching machine will be brought around to chew up the debris. Weather wasn't too hot and I was thankful for that. I walked down The Hill #2 into a different subdivision. I was a little disgruntled because there weren't any sidewalks along the parking lots. Walked by the animal shelter, the school bus parking facility, my grocery store, a new hotel, walked by restaurants, up The Hill #1, crossed the bridge and saw the late afternoon traffic, tree debris has been picked up and removed on the other side of my little community. I didn't care for this route as well, just too many cars zooming by and not enough trees and flowers (or mommies with cute babies).

Today I walked from the car to a football field and watched about 70 young men in training camp running and jumping around. Whew, hot today, better them than me!

Yesterday I walked around the neighborhood. We had a nasty storm and high winds while we were away on vacation. Ripped our back fence gate from the fence, but thank God no other damage for us. Our neighborhood lost about 100 trees in that storm. Yup, that's what I wrote. It's been a rough year for our trees between the snow blizzards and the summer storms. Lots of big tree limbs sitting on curbs waiting to be torn up into mulch. Crews are still working on the damage. Lots of limbs and large twigs down all over the pavement and street. Mommies still out with babies though and joggers running through the neighborhood. I saw one brilliant yellow finch while walking and I wondered if it had lost its nest due to the storm.
I'm hoping to walk again tomorrow evening even though it looks like we'll have rain.

Today I saw a lot of raindrops, thunder and lightning. As you can tell I got caught in a thunderstorm and got drenched. Luckily it was hot and humid and the rain felt pretty good.

I saw a LARGE tree limb down...on a pickup truck! We had a severe storm Sunday afternoon and it caused some damage, but this limb wasn't down yesterday! Our condo association trucks were surrounding the area and by the time I finished with my walk the tree limb and the truck were gone.
I also saw green "snow" on the ground; the trees that were lovely with white, fluffy stuff on them are now losing their fluff.
I was passed a couple of times by one of our friends who rides his bike around our neck of the woods. Every time he kept calling out FASTER, FASTER!
This was my first day of my half marathon walk training. I hope I'm able to get my walks in even while I'm away on vacation next week.

On my walk today I saw a lot of lunch time traffic. Had to keep my eyes peeled, cuz everyone was gabbing on their phones, gobbling fast food, or taking a swipe at the kids in the back of the car. I think I like the pace of retirement! emoticon

Patty, I'm sorry to read that you're still getting blisters!

It's hot and humid here as well. I walked yesterday and saw lots of service trucks throughout the neighborhood (pest control, a/c, windows, etc.), the landscape maintenance crews were out in force trimming the common areas, heard and then saw a black lab panting madly (I told his person that he sounded like me!), lots of birds singing (early in the day), lots of road noise (some parts of the neighborhood are next to a major highway into DC), smelled fragrant firs, saw some flowering trees but I don't know what they are -- they usually "blossom" into white fuzzy blossoms in the heat. I walked down The Other Hill and then questioned my sanity because the only way to get home was to climb up the silly thing. Saw a few runners and mommies with babies. The flowers are post their peak or maybe they're just thirsty. We haven't had much rain this month.

I haven't been getting notifications consistently from Spark People. I just thought you were all busy and not posting. I see you have been busy walkers (etc). We have the heat here up in SE Massachusetts too. I've been doing my "walking" in front of a fan in my living room. 4 miles yesterday with Leslie Sansone. I got some huge blisters on my feet (again) my last day at Disney (vacation) so I can't really do any outside walking anyway. "Crocs" are not conducive to power walking (they slip and slide and fall off) so I'll do my barefoot indoor walking until the blisters heal. I really shouldn't be walking with damp feet in sneakers. I think it promotes blistering.

Today I walked down The Hill instead of walking around the neighborhood. I didn't get out there until noon time because I had a dentist appointment in the morning. So it was very humid and I can't say I totally enjoyed the walk, but I did see lots of crape myrtle trees along the trail I was on, community gardens in full glorious bloom, saw the skeletons of new townhouses going up (it's an obsession around here in northern Virginia!), a few bicyclists and other walkers, a low flying cardinal, lots of traffic (the trail runs beside a busy street).

I didn't see anything as lovely as a fawn this morning, but I did see two helicopters flying overhead (we live near the Pentagon), a friend walking her dog named Chocolate (I NEVER have a problem remembering this dog's name!), lavender brown-eyed Susans (is that possible?), a brave elderly man on oxygen taking a walk, and the occasional runner. Tried doing the running thing myself to improve on my walking time -- truth is, I stink at running, but I think it's good to keep trying. It was cloudy this morning, not HOT, and just as I finished my 10K steps, the clouds disappeared, the sun came out along with a bright, blue sky, music filled the air and angels sang...well, okay, no music or angels but it felt like it! We actually have a break in the heat wave for the next 3-4 days! emoticon emoticon

Lots of downed limbs and leaves after a blistering thunderstorm we had earlier in the day. A large, dead tree with all of its limbs cut off with a sign that said the tree would not be cut down until the family of raccoons had left (only in Northern Virginia...). Lightning bugs! Love them! They make evenings so magical.

I love your descriptions of you walks! Glad to hear you can hear again and are on the mend. TOday I walked (limped) the parade route. My 18yo graduates from High School this week and this was his last parade as a high school student and My last parade as a band parent. I've been doing this since my now 29 yo son was a 13 yo high school band member so it's a graduation of sorts for me too. My 18yo has been marching with the band since he was 3 since he had to come along with mom and dad who were "band parents". It's been a long time and today's weather was perfect for a "final performance". Next year, my 18 yo will be marching with the UMASS Minuteman Marching Band. GO UMASS! lol.

I felt like getting out and walking this morning -- good sign that I'm recovering, I hope even though the ears are still clogged. Walked down/up The Hill to drop off a book and pick up a new one at our library. Lots of walkers and joggers out. I spotted a mom and dad bluejay, and the mom strongly encouraged me to stay away from her tree! Sheesh, first time I've had a bluejay sort of heckle me as I walked quite a ways from the tree! Anyway, lots of doggies out this morning, from bull dogs, boxers, dust mops (well okay they're Llapsos or Mitsos somethings), husky puppy. Lots of birds singing this morning and I could HEAR them! emoticon So they must have been really loud! Hostas are in bloom with vigor, along with day lilies, dogwoods are just about totally green now. Nice walk around the area, and it's humid here so I'm sort of glad to be back inside. emoticon

It's hot here as well. Hope your ear clears up soon. Still no "walks" or anything else until I know the toe/foot is healed. Seeing the podiatrist next week for a follow-up/recheck and maybe another x-ray to check progress. Guess my walks will be to the Doc's for now.
Glad you were able to get in some walking!

It was really warm when I went for my walk this morning; I don't know if it hit 90 today or not but it was supposed to do that. I saw mommies (or nannies) walking double strollers (good grief, those things are WIDE), saw a couple walking their golden retriever on a leash. They had a German Shepherd as well, but he wasn't on a leash and I kept hoping he wasn't hungry for middle-aged, ear infected females. emoticon I met a friend of ours from our church who was walking her dog. I don't know what the dog is; she's about 80 pounds and fluffy and CALM. I bought fresh flowers from the grocery store (cheerful yellow daises, red and white carnations). Not a very invigorating walk or long, but it was all I could do today.

You two are sweltering and I'm having to bring in or cover my tender little plants. We are in a cold snap. Frost and freeze warnings and the grass this morning was nice and crunchy.
I have been told by my Doctor to curtail the walking (and jogging) until my toe heals which apparently will be another month or so.
I shall enjoy the reports of your walks and pretend I'm doing them too. emoticon

Good Morning! We're doing okay on this end. I can identify with your high temps. At least the past few days here ours have dropped some.

Your poor Zoe's paws. In Florida we get sand spurs that get into our little critters paws. They are all over the place, and boy, when one of them gets one, they are not big, brave dogs anymore, but whimpering babies!

This morning I hauled my hubby out of bed at 5am, swung by Dunkin Donuts for coffees and bagels (no butter or cream cheese on the bagels), and took our food to the Landing to watch the sun come up. After we ate we walked. It was so nice and out of the ordinary. I told my hubby being able to do that is really living. I'm not sure he completely agreed, but, oh well. emoticon

It was still fun emoticon

Good Morning ~ How's everyone?

I walked 2 miles yesterday evening, and I can tell you, it's HOT! Already up to 90 degrees, with 73% humidity! I tried to get up early enough to walk again this morning, but didn't.

Maybe I'll brave it again this evening. Problem is, the ground is so hard and dry, that the ground on both sides of the trail is covered in stickers... Bad for Zoe, my walking companion. It took 5-10 minutes to comb the stickers out of her paws/legs....
I'll have to leave her inside when I walk this evening.

emoticon

Happy Walking!!

I didn't "walk" today--still having pain issues from my toe, but my daughter and her "fiance" bought a trampoline so I JUMPED! emoticon What a workout and fun too! Couldn't do it for long though...way to hot and the dewpoints were up there. Felt like a dry day in Florida but really sticky here in NewEngland. UGH

I walked around my workplace tonight, and got a close-up view of airplanes landing at Greater Pittsburgh Airport. Pretty cool...and birds flying over, as if they were inspired by the man-made versions of flight!

Vikki, the area that you walk in sounds so delightful! I love the fountain that we have here, on the Southbank. I haven't been to see it in a very long time, and your description has gotten me to thinking it's time to visit it. And to think yours has a ramp just for the ducks! How neat! Heehee, I'd love to see that!

emoticon UGH...no walking outside for me today and not enough time to get to the gym. It is HOT! I cannot believe how it went from perfectly cool and gorgeous weather to boiling hot! And STICKY. And icky. Oh well, summer has arrived. The reprieve is up. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I did my usual walk from the National Building Museum, ate lunch by the fountain in the National Gallery of Art's Sculpture Garden (dancing water spouts! Cool beans!) and walked through the National Mall on the way to the train. Lots of tourists, couple of pretty mallard ducks in the fountain -- oh get this, the ducks have their own ramp to get into the fountain -- honest! and the ramp is marked "Duck Ramp". emoticon

Lauren, I LOVE your stories about Wednesday and Thursday!

Wednesday the 28'th, I got in 2.09 miles at the gym. It was particularly fun because I had a runner on the treadmill next to me, and every now and then we'd surreptitiously take a peek at each other's progress. HAHA...for as good as he was, he gave out before me. From the corner of my eye when I saw him crank his MPH down, I cranked mine up, and he fell by the wayside.

Thursday the 29'th, I walked 1.68 miles around the neighborhood, although it felt like a 100! As I was plodding along, a wild and strange looking dude came down the sidewalk towards me, and I thought "Uh oh, look out." But all he did was smile, and say "Good morning" to which I warily mumbled a response. As we passed each other, he said, "It really is a good morning." Well, as I continued walking on throughout the area, I felt kinda bad that I wasn't more responsive to his cheerful greeting. I wished we'd pass each other again.

Lo and behold, a block from my house, we did. And this time, he looked like the one down in the dumps. As we got closer to each other I gave him a big smile, and said, "You were right, it is a good morning." He smiled at me and said, "Thank you, maam." Wherever he'd gone or whatever he'd done in the 40 minutes between our passing each other hadn't made him very happy. But at least as we each headed home, we were both smiling. emoticon

A nest with two Great Horned Owl chicks and the mother coming back to feed them. Cool!
