I got in almost 13,000 steps yesterday. Walked 2.8 miles with a friend. Walked slower than normal, but she had a sore hip and I wasn't sure how I would feel. Calories were low.

Glad you are feeling better, Donna. I was at the park a few minutes later than I wanted to be last night, but I had a good walk. If you do 2 miles in 30 mins, you walk much faster than I. I average 22-24 minutes per mile. If I try to push beyond that too often, I get down in the back.

Today I got over 10300 steps with 6300 aerobic, 2.4 miles in 57 mins. 50 mins of upper body strength training and a 15 min moderate exercise bike. My calories are within limits and most nutrients are good.

Hugs to you,
Darlene

Donna- even if you can't do the workout tips, you can do the food part!! I can handle the workout part- but always still working on the food part. I still eat too much of the junk even though I KNOW that it's not good for me. It takes both- but even one is better than none!!

Hugs and prayers to you about the pain though. I'm really thankful I don't have to deal with that... I just can't imagine. emoticon

Angie, I just looked at your link and I don't think I will be doing that one. Looks like one needs a lot of energy.

I actually walked 2 miles this morning. It took me an hour which is twice as long as normal but at least I did it. Don't feel too bad. I had hoped to walk at the park yesterday, but my gut was just not going to let me. Off to do some errands shortly.

12173 steps, 4.61 miles with 9068 aerobic (3.4 miles) in 76 mins. emoticon I hope to do some lower body strength training before bed, we will see. I am tired. I ate really well today except I mindlessly grabbed two cookies after lunch without thinking, then I forgot to add it to the tracker, so I am over on calories. But if I had not done that I would have been right on with calories and nutrient levels. emoticon

Tony Horton, the man who created Power90 (what I started with, on my fitness journey in 2005) and P90X... gives you tips to follow for 5 weeks- and MAKE THEM INTO HABIT a little at a time... and you WILL be more fit and healthy!

I've worked these things in over the years- and many of them are habit. My biggest struggle is still overeating when eating out or socially (like family gatherings)... but I really do well on my own with my own cooking.

Over 2000+ calories yesterday!!! emoticon

But that's okay... one time in awhile isn't bad. I'm just glad I'm not eating that much EVERY DAY like I did in the past. Yikes to think back on the times when I did. Oy. I just had NO clue back then.

But in the words of Maya Angelou (I think it was her)... When you KNOW better, you DO better.

Anyway- I tried to get out for another 5K run this morning but my shins were not happy with me!! They weren't hurting as in shin splints, but they were definitely tight and so when the kids got tired, I put up with some whining from them for a bit, then I cut my distance short. Instead of 5K, I only did 4K... in 32 min. So I wasn't setting any PRs this morning anyway. Darn the shins! I'll take tomorrow off from running and try it again later. I've been putting off my weight training and I really do need to get that back in, too. Don't want to lose my muscle!!

10212 steps, 3.9 steps with 3759 aerobic steps (1.4 miles) in 31 mins. 15 mins on Exercise bike. Core area strength training. Calories high. I had fried zuchinni instead of fries for dinner with my burger, with ranch dressing dip. Yum! Can't do that very often.

Back on the 5Ks again today... and it was 38:47. Still working on not walking any of it, but obviously- I'm not there yet! If I can just get rid of the walking- I might be closer to a 30-min 5K!! Or at least around 35 min.

In the words of Dory (sort of)... just keep running, just keep running... running, running...

Sometimes I wish I could know how many calories I burn. I've tried so many arm bands that really did not work...

Last two days, vacumming a two-level house. Up and down ladder cleaning 9 ceiling fans. Bending over 3 tubs cleaning them. Up and down stairs..cleaning baseboards. Sweeping out 4-car garage.

Whew...probably burned 100 calories.LOL..but I came away exhausted.!! emoticon

While being gone I did get a 2 mile walk in most days, but my calories were higher than I needed. With lack of exercise and higher cals I gained a couple of lbs. Now back to working at getting in more exercise and low cals. Hope to mow the yard today.

You are doing great, as usual, angie.

9360 steps, 3.54 miles with 5581 aerobic steps (2.1 miles) in 42 mins. It is getting hot here, so my walks again are short spurts throughout the day, but it is working. I also did my strength training for the day. Still not getting on the exercise bike. Kinda hard to do when it is here and I am not. emoticon My diet the past several days has not been good. Too many sweets.

Went out for another 5K this morning, and took my dog. Bad move!!! She might be a great sprinter (sheltie) but she's nothing for endurance running!! We started out okay- but then she got tired and started lagging behind. And then I couldn't even run anymore because I was starting to pull her!! Doh!!

So my 5K ended up being 43 minutes long... I couldn't even walk a 15mph pace with her at the end, because she was so tired. lol My dog is out of shape!!!
emoticon

So next time- I leave her at home... and see what my time is. lol

Bought some steaks on sale at United today (ribeyes, $4.99/lb)... and cut them in half. Even cut in half, they are still 6.78 oz each... which is twice the serving size of meat. emoticon So for people who buy these steaks and cook up one whole one as a meal... they are actually overeating by having FOUR servings of meat. It's not one steak= one serving, even though many eat it that way!! I used to eat it that way, in fact. But now I divide it up. So this pack of steaks will probably last me til Winter, as I don't eat that many steaks anyway. I just love ribeyes when I do.

Edited to add:

Just realized that I missed posting my last 5K... 39 minutes!! I *am* getting faster... just not fast if I take the dog with me! lol

Ran another 5K today... but too much walking. Took me 42 minutes. Dang... I gotta get more endurance, as when I'm running, my pace is close to 9:30-10min/mile! When I can knock the walking out... I might actually be able to COMPETE in the actual 5Ks instead of just being happy about survival! LOL

Heather- I'm not sure if I could do any race on the 12th, as that's the morning that the Relay for Life ends (it starts on the 11th, goes all night). I'm wanting to do the Relay... but not sure yet if I can (gotta make sure someone can keep the kids overnight).

I did my first 7K (without training first- lol, stupid move!) in just barely under an hour. LOL It was mostly walked.

I just ran a 5K in 40 minutes this morning! So I'm working on it! I'm shooting for getting that time under 30. And with NO walking.

Trying that running thing... again. Ran/walked a 5K this morning in 42 minutes. Not an official timed charity race or anything- just me and my Nike+iPod. I'm already finding improvement since Tuesday when I just walked the 2 miles, so I'm happy for that. I just hope I don't get discouraged if the improvements don't happen fast enough- and stop again. Each time I quit the running... I have to start back up again at square one. I have to stop THAT cycle!! Although I know ANY bit of running (or walking) is much better than nothing, so I shouldn't feel bad for anything I do. I just need to keep finding my own motivation and figure out how to keep that going.

Food was bad yesterday because I had Ruby Tequila's for lunch and ice cream with the kids after school. I pretty much skipped dinner because I had more than my day's calories in one shot earlier. Today's food is already a million times better!!

I didn't walk super-fast to where I was out of breath, but fast enough to feel it in my legs and work up a slight sweat (not dripping, as in running). I covered 2 miles in 34 minutes... which apparently isn't very fast (according to that link)!!

I still think I need longer legs. At 5'1"... I don't have a very long stride. Right?? lol

Oh well- I still feel good getting out for that walk. My dog was trying to pull me when I started, but before we were done, she was lagging behind!

dang Heather- I need to work more on running to catch up to you! lol

Today I did ChaLEAN Extreme again... still working on the weight training every other day. Tomorrow is cardio day but I'm not sure what I'll be doing yet. I ended up taking the whole weekend off from anything intense.

Had a grilled ribeye today because I was hungry for one... but ugh- it's so heavy!!! I've gotten so used to having chicken or fish (oh, the many types of seafood that I love!!) that the red meat is just too much now. Especially when it's a SLAB of meat. I can handle cut up bits- like in beef & broccoli... but the SLAB? Not as enjoyable anymore. Bring back the seafood!!! Tomorrow I plan to steam-bake a whole tilapia with ginger, lots of green onion and some garlic. YUM- one of my favorites! Even though it's a bit more trouble to pick out the bones... it's just fresher than having a premade tilapia filet.

Everyone keep up the good work!! And if you're not doing anything- then get off your butt and DO something!! lol

there's my whip cracking for the day. Who's next???

I walked for 20 min. during lunch today, and opted for a salad instead of a burger. Tonight is left over chicken enchiladas for dinner. Probably won't get any time in on the Wii, we're going to visit a Kindermusik class for my daughter and check it out since I signed her up for their July camp.

I got in 10,000 steps yesterday with most of them being aerobic. A total of 70 min of cardio. Calories were finally low. So hope to see the scales move in a few days if I can continue.

I am sore! A little... but it's good. I know exactly why, so it's good.

I'm having a cantaloupe-banana-lemon Shakeology right now and it might be a frightening kind of green (the greenberry flavor is that way) but it's SOOO YUMMY!!! I took one with me to United yesterday morning as I shopped- and got some weird looks. LOL

But it's my healthiest meal of the day, so I don't mind the looks. Though now I know that the chocolate flavor goes over better in public (if you want to avoid the funny looks). hehe

I'm running my Roomba... letting it sweep for me while I camp out online. hehe Maybe later the kids & I will go to a movie. It's so rainy out, getting out means just going to another 'inside' for activities anyway.

Yesterday I made myself do 10,000 steps. I can't keep gaining weight and right now I have put back on 4 lbs. BAD!!! I finally saw good results when I was getting outside and now......with pain issues.... but I don't have to overeat. Ok I have lectured myself. Yesterday eating was much better.

ChaLEAN Extreme Push Circuit 3 this morning. Mostly sumo squats, back rows and chest flys/presses... and I used nothing less than 20 lbs this time!! All I used were 20 and 25 lb weights. I could've gone to 30's on some- but I don't have any. It feels GREAT to get stronger! Woohooo!
emoticon

Then this evening, I did some crazy cardio with Insanity Plyo Cardio... I'm still having to take more short breaks than I want to- but I'll get it all back soon enough.

Eating was pretty good- although I had a brownie in there, too.

Oh Heather- Great job on the miles run!!! Are you training for a race or anything? Or just doing it for fun?

I keep saying I need to get out there and do more running too (I'm such the runner wannabe, but easily discouraged). Funny that I can work programs like P90X and Insanity but yet I can't get out and run. **rolls eyes**

I've been a funk since Sunday (3rd anniversary of my mom's death) and while it isn't as hard as the first anniversary was- it's rough because this year it lands directly ON Mother's day. :-(

Anyway- I'm okay with keeping up with my weight training (ChaLEAN Extreme) but the cardio is sort of out the window the past couple of days. Just not in the mood for anything fun/energetic like what I usually enjoy. I'm hoping that by the time today is over (a busy day with appointments with the dentist and school)- that I'll find my usual mental self back.

I have a huge tree branch in my back yard that will require a chain saw to remove- thanks to the super-strong winds of the other day. Anyone else have any damage from that? It was NUTS!

10311 steps, 3.9 miles with 4640 aerobic steps (1.8 miles) in 34 mins. And I will do some crunches before bed. My calories are high, I am sure. I haven't gone in to adjust the nutrition tracker yet, that may wait until tomorrow as it is getting late, but I can tell you it is high. Did great till nightfall, then fell on my face. emoticon emoticon emoticon

They are at Ama. High school- in the commons area. Go in entry #1 near the flagpole- turn left through the breezeway, then right- and through the doors into the commons.

Just in case anyone might want to try out the Zumba class that I've been merging myself into...

Classes on:

Saturday May 8 9am
Monday May 10 6pm
Wed May 12 5:30pm
Monday May 24 6pm
Thursday May 27 6pm

It's a bit whittled down from what I think is her usual, but she says it's because she has a lot of other things going on the rest of the month, as well as conflicts in having the space open there at the high school.

If anyone is worried about joining- it's not a very hard or intense class at all! Great for beginners, IMO- and nothing like the crazy stuff I usually do at home. LOL So just because I'm enjoying it- don't let that make you think it's a crazy class! It's really fun- even though I still feel quite uncoordinated at this point. ;-)

I did ChaLEAN Extreme Push 3 this morning. A bunch of sumo squats, one legged squats, chest flys/presses and rows. I maxed out my weights! I could've gone up to 30 lbs on some, but all I had were 25 lb weights! But yes- I'm LOVING the weight training and the strength I keep getting!

Food-wise, I'm still having a hard time with not nibbling the sweet stuff... but working on it. My biggest goal for now though- is to sort of incorporate what I learned while doing the Shakeology cleanse a couple of weekends ago- and remember what it was like to eat ONLY when I started feeling slightly hungry- not when I was just getting the munchies or was bored. I do TOO much boredom snacking... and that's what I am focusing on for now.

And then when I am hungry- I try to fill up on things like veggies and clean proteins instead of the junk. It still amazes me just how much VOLUME I can eat, when it's all clean veggies and not breads or sugary starches laden with fat.

Every day is another new opportunity to get better than you were the day before!

Walked 2 miles yesterday outside, total steps 9,600. Not pushing myself until I get over this cold. I did work in the garden for 30 min. I planted some plants and then went to Walmart and say some I liked better for that area so may dig them up and replant. Lots of work but I will be happier with the look.

WTG, team!

For my report tonight, I am glad that I checked my ped. I started to just report our short walk this evening. I was so tired this morning that I forgot having walked Dawg Buddy Jasper early. My total steps today were 5689, 2.15 miles with 3876 aerobic steps (1.5 miles) in 28 mins. Much better than the half mile we ended with.

Being tired is a trigger for me, and though I did not lose control, I did have some M&Ms and graham crackers again today. Thankfully that just put me at 1589 calories, only 39 above my top range, so still well within range to see weight loss. Yea!

Hugs to you,
Darlene

Back to the Zumba class this evening! Anyone want to come- just show up! AHS commons area, 6-7pm! Enter near the flagpole in front of the school (Danbury side)- go left (through breezeway 1), then right- and the commons is through the doors.

Bring water (but drinking fountains are nearby) and light handweights if you like (for the warm-up).

I can't make it for every session, but Mon and Thurs is at 6pm, Tues and Wed is at 5:30. She also announced that she won't be able to have class NEXT Thurs May 13- which is fine; I think that will be the night I will be busy with the nursing school pinning ceremony anyway.

Walked 1 mile. Level 1 Day 4 completed of the 30 Day Shred. I have more sustainability during the cardio now than I had on day one. Also between Sunday and this morning have already lost 4.5 lbs. WOOHOO talk about motivation!!! I'm not about to stop with results like that.

Oh my goodness. I do not like pit bulls or rotwhiellers (sp) or any of those big, aggressive dogs. We have several in our neighborhood. DH bought me some pepper spray to carry with me. Only problem is that unless I keep it in my hand with my finger on the trigger.... Praying for your daughter.

I average 16 8oz cups per day. I don't have a problem with water. Hot, ice cold, or in between: I like it. So unless I have a period of struggle getting it in for some reason, there is that.

Calories today are 1398, unless I don't get my serving of prunes in which I have planned. If that is the case, it will be 1298. It seems that my few weeks of break from the food tracker helped. I again planned my days menu early, before eating anything, and stayed with the plan. I have renewed determination. emoticon

Steps: 7381 steps, 2.79 miles with 4835 aerobic steps (1.8 miles) in 44 mins. Plus 6 sets of 15 of 2 exercises for the lower body with stretches.

Hugs to you,
Darlene

I am sure glad the dog was found. I was bit when I was young and am personally don't like dogs at all. If I am out walking and see a stray dog, I will go out of my way to avoid it.

I finally feel I got back on track yesterday. Total steps were 13,200 with 9,000 being aerobic. My calories were low yesterday. Need to keep on track and get off the 2 lbs I gained.

Started the Jillian Michaels 30 day Shred DVD yesterday. I felt like I was going to die and had to modify some of the exercises, but I got all the way through it. I definately felt "shredded" today...although, not in the way that she meant it I'm sure :)
However, instead of giving up because of the soreness, I walked 2 miles at lunch then came home, fixed a healthy dinner and did the 30 Day Shred DVD again. I totally expect my body to rebel against me in every way imagineable. But I also believe that if I am to achieve the goals that I have set for myself that I must push through the pain and discomfort and remember that it WILL get easier as long as I keep at it.
Sorry...rather long winded tonight.

Sure am glad to read that your daughter is progressing and in the path to feeling better fast. Dogs are an enjoyable responsibility. Thank you for sharing this blog hoping it is a reminder to others if you own a dog it is important to be a responsible owner.

Yes, the dog was found and is in quarantine for the next 10 days to make sure it doesn't have rabies. Thank you for asking about her. She is doing ok. We kept ice on the bite and gave her Tylenol so it took a lot of the bruising out. It is still swollen (with a knot in it) and tender, but I believe she will be fine with time and momma's tender loving care.

I agree about the dogs. I am a dog owner of pits myself and believe that if you are going to be a pet owner you need to be a responsible one. The dog is actually a very sweet dog and I felt bad about them having to take him away, but he should have been contained in his yard or home instead of running loose. I think we may have just spooked him or something because he was very friendly when we talked to the owners (I even petted him). I love dogs but can't take the chance on an even younger child getting hurt. I walk by that way with my 5 yr old granddaughter when she's here in the summertime and if it had been her the injury could have potentially been much worse. I'm not willing to take that chance no matter how sweet the dog seems. The owners also stated he has not had any vaccinations and he had no tags. That itself is irresponsible in my opinion.

Oh no K!! I hope she's okay. Did you ever find the dog? I have nothing against pit bulls (or any other breed) but I do have something against people letting their pets run LOOSE.

May 1. My husband's parents have been here since Wednesday so the eating has been a little off (however, not real bad because Pop is diabetic and eats rather healthy so except for the times that we went out to eat I did ok on my diet). For dinner tonight: a thin grilled steak, cantaloupe, squash, cabbage & carrots.
Exercise: My daughter and I went on a 2 mile walk...unfortunatley when we were 1 1/2 blocks away (on the way back) she got bit by a pit bull and we spent the next 2 hours helping animal control find the dog so that it can be tested for rabies.

Just floundered my way through one of my Zumba DVDs... just because I wanted to see what I was getting myself into by planning for that Zumba class next week- IN PUBLIC!!! Better get myself more familiar with some of the moves first... but I think it will take more time!

OMG though- if this workout won't firm up the legs and trim the abs, I don't know what will!!! What a sweat that drums up!!

And as for the food... over ate at China Star buffet tonight. I needed to work it off!
