My dog and I walk in one of the metro parks or state parks almost every day. My goal is to complete the whole shoreline trail at Portage Lakes State Park this spring. It's not overly long (about 5 miles in all) but I can never seem to have time to walk the whole trail. The part I do walk is usually dry enough (a few muddy spots) but there were trees to be climbed over earlier this week! I walked it with SPHAPPYHIKER and FUNNIROSIE. They both walk much faster than I do - I'm slow!

We had a great time Saturday! I felt really good even though I know I was struggling a bit. I slipped down a slope once coming from behind a rock - on wet leaves. Nothing damaged but my pride! Hopefully, depending on how MyHoney is feeling after donating plasma, we'll do the "Winter is the time for Owls" walk tomorrow night.

Most of the towpath trail is in good shape (except when it is a bit icy)

- Don't let the rain in your life turn into a downpour, instead laugh, sing and dance with joy.

-Enjoy every minute of your life. It is too short to waste on regrets.

I haven't been hiking in almost 6 years - my now ex-husband was totally into hiking and camping and fishing when we met...then we got married and he had absolutely no desire to do any of those things!!

Thanks for the reminder - I need to get my good hiking boots then have a pair of slip on tennis shoes for afterwards.

I love to hike! But with all the rain we've had, the trails are going to be pretty very soggy in early spring. So I will need to bring a spare pare of dry shoes.

So - I've been checking out the Metro Parks site and I have a feeling my weekends are going to get a bit more active. Anyone else attending any of the hikes or workshops?
