My friend and I went to Mustard Seed Market Cafe for dinner. It was very good. I had salmon on greens and my friend had a veggie, tofu, and pasta dish.

You can get to Virtues through the entrance to the new Brennan Critical Care Center so you don't have to go through the main hospital. You can get to it from the hospital though without having to go outside. They validate your parking ticket and I believe offer free valet parking. It's hard to believe when talking about a hospital but the food is good.

for Virtues do you go into hospital or is there an outside entrance?

I've been meaning to tell all of you that if you're near Akron City, they have a great restaurant in the hospital. It's called Virtues. It's actually in an addition of the hospital. They have a great chef and very healthy choices. It's great food and they'll validate your parking.

I'm meeting a friend for dinner this evening and she wanted to go to Vegeterranean. I had to deliver the sad news that it closed last week. So, I remembered this listing and decided to check it out again. We're going to go to the Chowder House or to Mustard Seed depending on which location works better for her. I'll let you know how it goes.

Within the last 2 weeks I tried 2 new places and thought they were both good.

The Golden Goose on State Rd in Cuyahoga Falls and The Chowder House Cafe on corner of Chestnut and State Rd in the Falls also. The food I had at both places was good. They both have a website on line emoticon

Someone mentioned Eat&Park earlier. My son and I went there tonight because we wanted someplace quick and easy and not fast food. I figured I could do better there than at Steak & Shake! I was impressed. The menu has lots of nutritional info provided and a good selection of healthy items.

I had a fish dinner with rice and snap peas. It was good and had a reasonable number of calories, fat, etc.

I really like IHOP's talapia with teriaki /tomato/ onion/ mushroom on top. it is one of their simple 'n fit menu items. I order w/ brocolli, and salad and make sure there is no added salt. It is only 550 calories and the fish is perfect! Next time I will see if they can prepare it w/o the teriaki.

another surprising place I found for fish is Pizzazio's in barberton. They have perch w/o the heavy batter or crust so many other chains have. I like the fish sandwich w/ chip (home made potato chips.about 4-5) and the tartar sauce is on the side so you have control on that

I LOVE Pizza Bogo. I haven't been able to find out the exact nutritional information but I feel like it's healthy. lol. This is what I had last night:

Crust: Miracle Crust (The healthful Miracle Crust contains 12 organic, high fiber grains with all natural prebiotics, including rye, wheat bran, soy flour and flaxseeds, all rich in Omega 3 fatty acids and organic barley and millet to assist in developing and repairing body tissues. (from the website) It's also vegan.

Sauce: Basil Pesto (Light sauce)

Veggies: Banana Peppers, Black Olives, Green Peppers, Mushrooms, Red Onions, Spinach, Roasted Red Peppers

Meat: Chicken Breast

Cheese: Feta

It was delicious! On Tues/Weds they have a large pizza with unlimited toppings for $5.95. The miracle crust is $2 more, but still for $7.95 you can't beat it!

I only had 2 pieces and I was full. Usually I can get 3 or 4. So now I have lunch and dinner for the next couple of days!

Good point, Jonboy! I don't often eat at the chain restaurants but it's a good point to remember that a number of them now serve some healthy choices.

And ordering seafood is often a good choice. Since I don't cook it often at home, it's a good choice for eating out. And it eliminates the "I'm tired of sald and chicken" moaning and groaning! (from me, I mean.)

Those of you who like Mustard Seed Market, don't forget that there's one in Solon too. It's a great place to meet people for lunch if you're going that way.

I just get tired of having to order a salad for a healthy meal. Anyone have any thoughts of what else to order? I also get tired of chicken breasts!

Yeah, "El Cramps", Aztecha, Mariachi's all basically have the same menu, and it's generally not healthy.

Rocknes has a couple good salads. I usually get the Oriental without the shell. PF Changs is decent but a bit pricey.

Iíve had the tomato\cheese sandwich soup at Craves too and itís awesome, but thereís no way thatís healthy emoticon

I went to dinner with my son tonight at El Campesino and have to say it doesn't make my list of good places to go. I tried having a veggie dish but it still wasn't all that good for me. Plus those chips. I have a hard time resisting.

I haven't eaten there yet but I hear that Earth Fare which has opened in Fairlawn where the Borders used to be has excellent food to eat there. Has anyone tried it yet?

The harder part of eating out is when I end up someplace like the Winking Lizard. They have improved their salads but it's still not an easy place for me to eat.

I have eaten at most of the places listed and they are good. I have been going to the Mustard Seed for many years and have never had a bad meal there yet. Aladdin's is just a few blocks from where I live and I have eaten at a few of their restaurants in Ohio. I was a vegan for 3 years and a vegetarian for 6 years and they always had good choices for me. I have eaten at the Vegeterranean a couple of times and they have good food but they can be a little pricey. I love PF Changs and go quite often with friends for dinner. Thai-Gourmet in Stow is programmed in my cell phone since I workout in Kent I will call on a cold winter day and order brown rice and soup and pick it up to bring home for dinner and it is less than $5.00 (I put the rice in my coconut vegetable soup. I have also eaten a few times at the Saffron Patch and very good. A couple of months ago I stopped at Franks Place on West Market and their special that night was a homemade veggie burger that was really good. Rockne's has good salads. Last night I ate at Hackers Bar&Grill with 4 friends and it is the 3rd time I have been there and always get the same thing Spinach Salmon Salad. If you are looking for fast & cheap & spice then I like Chipotle at Highland Square where I get a burrito bowl (no shell) with black beans, rice, chicken veggies, and salsa and I only eat half of it. I do make a lot of my food at home but my social life involves a lot of meeting friends for dinner so I need to choose careful where I eat now, and I still don't eat beef or pork.

It looks like this hasn't been updated recently but I thought of a couple more places for a healthy meal. You can get a reasonably healthy meal at PF Changs--they serve brown rice and do provide nutritional info. I also like to go to Pad Thai/Thai Gourmet in Hudson, Fairlawn or Stow. You can get brown rice there. I've taken to ordering one of the curry dishes with vegetables instead of meat. They add lots of different veggies that way and it tastes good.

Aladdin's (in Highland Square), Vegeterranean (downtown), and Mustard Seed (Montrose).

Next race: Akron half marathon 9/25/10

Recent races:
Cleveland half: 2:47:58
Athens half-marathon 2:44:44

Although Eat n Park is a chain restaurant, I love their seafood. Several varieties each of which is fairly low in calories, and perfectly seasoned. You can get them with 2 veggies, the side veggies are excellent, and the prices are reasonable.
I am also fond of Crave's grilled cheese and tomato soup, but I don't know the calorie/protein count.

I love Raj Majal to but usually choose their vegetarian options of which they have loads of. The Saffron Patch is yummy too.

I think my favorite healthy eats place has got to be Chrissie Hynde's (from the rock group The Pretenders) restaurant http://www.thevegiterranean.com/

Dinner is more than I can spend but lunch is affordable once in a while for me.

I also spend too much at The Mustard Seed's salad bar and deli section.

I just disoovered the Mustard Seed Restaurant. It's the 2nd floor of the store so when you're done eating, if you need health food or organic, it's below. It's in Fairlawn. Very good lunch food

Hi all,
I'm a newer member to the Akron Spark team page. I was disappointed looking at the forums, the forums don't seem to get used that much. I thought this may be a fun and helpful topic;
When going out to eat and you're looking for something fairly healthy for lunch/dinner around Northeast Ohio, where is your go to place?
I recently tryed the Raj Majal in Cuyahoga Falls off of State Street. They serve Indain dishes, lots of vegetarin, seafood and meats. The food Was amazing. I got lamb with veggies and it was to die for! emoticon
