It was a good morning for sleeping in! I wish I could have done that. I had a busy day so not much exercise. I think I'll do better tomorrow.

Good morning, at least for another hour!
I slept in and haven't even had breakfast yet. I need to wait an hour after taking my meds and then I'll have scrambled eggbeaters and toast.
It looks like a beautiful day outside, although a little chilly. I hope to walk one of the Spree trails later today, but it will depend on how soon I get moving and get all the work around the house done!
Enjoy your day.

I'm going shopping in the morning, but mainly to purchase some chicken and lean ground beef. I did some batch cooking today - rice, pasta, soup, turkey "muffins" - all things I can use to prepare a quick meal without a lot of work. I want to go by a local produce market and see if they have any of their in-house veggie burgers. They don't always have them but they are delicious!
I still have 10 minutes walking to do to get in my exercise goal - so I'm off to do that now, and then it's bed time for me.
Sweet dreams!

I bought a lot of produce today. Apples for my lunches, bananas, grapes. I bought kale and lettuce, carrots, cabbage, onions, potatoes. I intend to make some salads for lunch and vegetable soup. I also have a recipe from this site for a pretty healthy corn chowder that I'm going to try.

I find it's a lot easier to eat more fruits and vegetables if they're actually in the house!

There are some nice trails in the southern part of the county! Have fun at Deep Lock Quarry. My favorite trail is not on the Hiking Spree this year--the trail at O'Neil's Woods. I don't know why I like it so much but that's my favorite.

Nessie ~ We're in opposite ends of the county - I'm in the extreme southern section, almost in Stark County. I love the trail at Deep Lock Quarry trail and plan to walk it one day next week. I'm retired so a lot of my walks are unscheduled - just grab the dog and go when the mood hits me.

I was lucky yesterday and got a quick hike in at the Quarry MetroPark in Peninusla. My son and I took our dog and hiked in the brief period of time when the sun came out. It's not a very long hike, just over a mile, but it was better than nothing!

I feel so lonely. . . where is everyone?
I haven't been here for several days due to family emergencies, but things are under control now and I'm back home - hopefully to stay! I'm catching up around here but am lagging on my exercise - need to get back on track.
I'm loving this cooler weather and hope to get in at least 3 trails for the fall hiking spree this week.
Enjoy your day!

Good morning, all ~
I've been busy running errands for everyone else the past few days and let Sparking fall to the side. It's a rainy, wet Saturday now with the temps in the sixties. I'm loving it! The only thing I'm going out for today is to drop off a prescription and pick up a few groceries. Otherwise, it's a day of cleaning, laundry, and exercise DVDs (with a few hours reading thrown in).
I didn't do any formal exercise yesterday but I did help Mari (SPHAPPYHIKER) move boxes of stuff to the house they're moving to at the end of the month. They have two rooms they can put stuff in so she's getting an early start. We filled her fan and my SUV and we plan to make another trip doing the same (twice) on Monday. They're moving into an old house in the country at the end of the month. The people that they are renting from are still emptying it of their parent's things but have cleared the two rooms for Mari.

Freezing the smaller "muffins" is one of the best ideas I've run across. They're right next to the baggie of frozen grapes I love to snack on, Nessie.
I spent 3 hours at the car dealer's this morning for a regularly scheduled maintenance appointment - left $501. poorer. I love my Kia, but don't think I'll agree to this lifetime warranty stuff again. It's big bucks every time you have to take it in and you have to agree to it to keep the warranty in effect.
Heading to bed now.

Good morning.
I hope all is well for everyone today. Personally, I'm glad to see the wet weather because it means I don't have to drag the hose around the house watering my flower beds today!
No plans for today - just going to take it as it comes and work on mindful choices. I think I will make some "chicken loaves" to freeze. I buy ground chicken and make them in a muffin pan. Then, I just pull one out of the freezer and put it in the microwave for a quick protein part of my meal.

Good afternoon!
Are you all enjoying this beautiful Labor Day? Did anyone do anything special? I just lazed around the house and relaxed. Now, I'm starting to feel guilty so am going to do a little cleaning and get some exercise in.
I recently came on as a co-leader with Sharilee and would welcome any and all ideas to help get this team active again. I did put some info about the Fall Hiking Spree here earlier today and hope some of us can meet and walk together.

I've been gone from this site for two years. I've just come back and see that this team has been absent for a while. I hope we can revive it. I am looking forward to the fall hiking spree around Summit county. Can we get this going again?

For a side dish I have this really easy pasta recipe.
You use whole wheat pasta, add corn, black beans and a jar of salsa.
You can add any other veggies. I like peppers, onions and this time of year the squash and tomatoes from the garden are great.
It is a low fat pasta salad and the beans add protein.

I have been enjoying the warm weather. It's wonderful to be able to open windows and let the fresh air in. I haven't been getting in much walking but am planning to go late this afternoon. I need to finish up 2 loads of laundry and then take mom to the store. After that, Peaches and I are going for a long walk! I'm tired and sore from moving furniture around. That must use muscles my exercise routines don't!

Wow, Sheila. Wish I could get on a cleaning binge. I have spent at least 2 hours on the past several Sundays doing projects (cleaning and otherwise) that I have been putting off. Once I have completed my 2 hours, I reward myself by doing something fun. Yesterday my husband and I went for a walk along some of the new Stark Parks trail near our house. What beautiful Spring weather we have been having. Hope you have an AWESOME day.

Hello!
I'm actually on a spring cleaning binge - I guess that should be considered a "good" binge! I've rearranged the furniture as I cleaned the family room and living room - both done, including windows. The kitchen is also done and today's plans are to clean the bathroom and extra bedroom/office. That will leave only my bedroom for later in the week - and then I can start the process all over again at my mom's! Oh, well - I guess I need to think of it as exercise and not as work!

Have you guys checked the weather forecast for this week? It looks fantastic, except for the rain tomorrow! This nicer weather makes me feel so much more energy! I've decided to walk the towpath from Center Street to Clinton this afternoon OR the path at Nimisila - one of them for sure!

Thank goodness I switched my Rest Day from yesterday to today. I had a great (but muddy) walk at Portage Lakes yesterday. Today, I'm just sitting here watching the raindrops roll down the window!
Take my word for it - you don't want to walk the whole shoreline trail at Portage Lakes State Prk until we have about a month of no rain! The mud was unbelievable - I had to bend down and hold the back of my shoe so it wouldn't come off with ever step I took. The part that is actual shoreline is fine, except for the tree you have to climb over. It's the part past the Tudor House Center (next to the park, trail goes by it) that's really bad!
It is a beautiful trail and I will walk it again when the ground has had a chance to dry up.

Peaches and I walked Willow and parts of Redwing trail yesterday. We skipped the "boardwalk" section because she's scared when water comes up between the boards and it was pretty wet yesterday. We did discover a new "trail" around the bottom of the hill. It was muddy and I don't know if it's a real trail or was just cut where they're working. The road sections of the trails at Firestone are much muddier than anywhere else because of the work being done. They have put culverts under some of the parts of the trail that keep flooding. We ended up with 3.1 miles on the pedometer.
I think I'm heading over to Portage Lakes to walk a section of the shoreline trail that I've never walked before this afternoon. It looks too nice outside to stay in!

Glad to hear you enjoyed your walk yesterday. The weather is supposed to be beautiful this afternoon. Hope you and Peaches enjoy your walk on Willow Trail. Wish I could go with you. Working full time gets in the way of the things I really want to do. I should be able to get outside for 30 minutes on my lunch hour. Have a great day!

I had a great walk yesterday - cold but beautiful! Peaches (my dog) and I got in 2.5 miles before deciding it was time to warm up.
Not sure what form of exercise I'll do today, but I do know that I'll do at least 30 minutes of cardio and 20 of strength. I'm thinking seriously about walking the Willow Trail at Firestone in the early afternoon.
I hope everyone else is doing well.

Looked out the window to see a snow-covered yard this morning and immediately thought about changing my walking plans - but I'm determined to get in 45 minutes walking outside. Oh, well - I seem to remember reading somewhere that your body uses more calories to stay warm!
I've been keeping an exercise log and it seems to be helping me stay more consistent with doing some every day. I've already done strength this morning.
I'm on Day 6 of my on-track streak. This is the longest I've stayed focused and determined in over a year (and that's why I've gained so much weight back!)
I hope everyone has a good day today.

Good morning!
Gee - it's a chilly Sunday morning!
Not much going on today - need to get started with my exercise but can't seem to get my "rear in gear" to start!
March has started out well - I'm on Day 5 of staying OT (on track) which is something I haven't been able to say in a L-O-N-G time!
I am determined to make March a successful month!

I'm making an effort to become more active (at least online) with this team. I know I can use all the support available at this time!
The concert was absolutely wonderful - just what I needed to keep my determination strong. I bought tickets for the entire series this year so will be attending several more concerts.
I'm glad you're able to walk during your lunch time. I used to do that when I was teaching. I usually walk in the afternoon, especially in cooler weather. Sadly, I'm still in my jammies instead of heading out to walk!
Stay strong.

Sheila, Hope you enjoyed your dinner concert in Hartville last night. I rarely take the time to check the Akron Sparkers team page but happened to today. Last night I went to my monthly book club meeting and made some poor food choices. However, today is a new day and I am determined to start fresh. I wish everyone a wonderful weekend.

Okay - still talking to myself!
Does anyone ever go to the Southern Gospel dinner concerts in Hartville? I bought a season ticket this year and am going tonight. It will play havoc with my calorie count if I'm not extremely careful! I've decided no roll and no pie, and I am taking my own salad dressing in a small container. Hopefully, I'll stay strong and only eat half of the potatoes and half of the cooked vegetable (because of the sodium). I'll probably eat all of the meat, even if it is the delicious chicken with the sauce!
I'm starting this new month with new determination.

Me, again! I guess I'm talking to myself!
I enjoyed a nice "walk in the park" with SPHAPPYHIKER and FUNNIROSIE on Monday. We met at Portage Lakes State Park and walked part of the shoreline trail. It was a beautiful day to be outside, although walking did cause my ankle to start aching again. I don't know how they felt, but I was depressed after the walk because I realized how much trouble I have keeping up with them. I know that's partially due to recent injuries, my age, and my disability - but it still bothered me. I'm thinking I just need to stick with walking with Peaches (my dog) on a daily basis!
I just finished up the February Buddy Support Group challenge on the Aspire & Inspire team and am looking forward to starting the March challenge on Sunday. If you're ever looking for another team to join, check it out. I especially like the challenges because they involve small teams (usually 5 people) who meet daily in their own team chat.
Thunder woke me at 7 this morning but didn't keep me awake. It looks nice outside right now so I think I'll take a walk around the neighborhood. Otherwise, I'm just hanging around the house today - a little bit of housework and laundry, reading, that kind of activity along with strength exercises and maybe a cardio DVD.
I hope all my fellow Akron Sparkers have a good day!
Stay strong!
Sheila

Hello, Akron!
I have not been active in this chat and one of my goals for this coming year is to become an active member of the Akron Sparkers! I don't actually live in Akron, but in the close-by city of Green. I grew up in the Portage Lakes area and my mom still lives there. I walk in one of the area parks or towpaths most days so let me know if you ever want to walk with my dog and I. I will tell you that I walk slowly due to some physical problems. It's not unusual for me to be "left behind" on the walks and that doesn't bother Peaches (dog) or I. In fact, we're heading over to Portage Lakes State Park to walk this afternoon. We'll probably walk the parking lot lanes due to the muddy trails and the fact that I just paid to have Peaches groomed.
Otherwise, not much else is planned for the day - a visit with my mom, cleaning house, washing a load of laundry, and watching the Amazing Race tonight.

I feel your pain Rosi. I love guacamole but I usually make my own. I've been bad at getting outside to exercise lately because it's been so cold and yucky. Can't afford a gym and I own a treadmill but I'd rather eat my shoe than get on it. Anyone wanna buy a slightly used treadmill?

It comes down to a simple question: what do you want out of life, and what are you willing to do to get it?

Stop digging your grave with your own knife and fork.

Suzy, I suspect that the reason that your daily recommended number of calories seems high is because of the amount of weight you have to lose. The more we weight, the more calories our bodies burn so you could probably lose weight right now at the 1800 mark. As your weight comes down, you'll have to drop the number of calories you eat.

This is a process so see what works for you. Also, I find that it's easier some days than others to stay within the number of calories so think of those calories over the course of a week. It will still work that way.

I totally blew my diet yesterday by going to the local Mexican restaurant. I read all these things about how to get through a meal at a restaurant and then forget it all when I'm looking at that bowl of chips.

Hi everyone! Sorry to have been missing in action. I've been watching my weight and getting in the exercise. I just haven't been posting.

It's good to see that everyone is doing well.

Been battling a cold for the past week or so. Doing better finally and hope to get back exercising soon. Been doing okay with food, not feeling well has helped with eating. Had car trouble the beginning of the week, all fixed now. Then lost a crown and had to go to the dentist. Today cleaning house and doing laundry. Hope to go hiking on Sunday.

Today cleaning house then going to put up the Christmas decorations. Tomorrow plan to go hiking. Did fairly well meeting my November goals until the end of the month, the last few days fell off track with food. Working on setting my December goals.

First, congratulations on tracking your food everyday!

As for the Spark recommendations for daily calories allowed, it is my understanding it is based on how much you want to lose and what you choose as your goal date to reach your desired weight. So the more you want to lose and the farther out your goal date is, the more calories sparks allows. The theory is taking the weight off slowly and not feeling too hungry.

1500 calories a day is a good number for losing weight. As long as you are not hungry eating 1500 calories a day, go for it. You will lose weight a little faster than with 1800 to 2100 calories which is fine if you are feeling satisfied and full on 1500 a day.

I gave myself my own little goal this week and that was to track my food EVERYDAY, and so far I have kept on track. The Nutrition tracker here on Spark recommends I eat 1800 - 2100 calories every day. That just seems way too much for weight loss. I have not gone beyond about 1500 calories a day. I have about 120 to lose. Can anyone offer some input?
Thank you Akron beauties!

Yesterday did the Buckeye Trail from Jaite to Boston Store and back on the towpath, just over 8 miles, took us just over three hours. My foot held up (early in the week I was having problems with it). Today will clean house and then probably do the treadmill. Sunday, hope to go hiking again, not sure which trail yet but it will be much shorter than 8 miles.
