I have to pass for this time. I've been having alot of pain since my fall and I'm FINALLY going to the ER tomorrow to have it looked at. I've been screaming in pain for far too long. ((sigh)) I hope to be at the next one in december if I can.

Sorry we missed ya Sue. The boys quilt came out cute and I'm hand-quilting it as we speak. We forgot to take pics though. Hopefully we'll have some pics taken when we stop at my parents this week since our camera is shot.

See you on the next meeting!

To any Sparkers who weren't there last night:

What you missed was an afternoon of laughs as we worked out the first pattern for a girl and what we're doing for the boy's quilt. We created a great quilt that will warm some girl's heart.
This was followed by a meal of chili in homemade bread bowls, corn bread, salad and an apple crisp. This was balanced with a large side of friendly conversation.
Only three Sparkers and two husbands were there this time. Your presence there was missed!
If you stayed away because you have never met us, this is only the second time I was there and the first time I was welcomed without judgement.
If you stayed away because you don't quilt, there are many ways to join the fun, and you just might enjoy the laughter!
If you stayed away because of time constraints, you can come and go as your schedule allows.
We are going to work on the boy's quilt 11/7 at 2:30.
Please consider joining us! emoticon

Yay! I'm up for it Kris. This was SO FUN tonight. I'd love to have others join in! It was a pleasure to hang out with you and Sue.

Maybe we can all get together for a zumba session in Dewitt that you spoke of. It'd be SO MUCH FUN to get together with Spark Friends and exercise while spreading the Spark!

Sure Sue! I'm up for it.

Kris, if your willing to use your fabric, that's fine too. I just didn't want you taking the brunt of your stash when I'm also willing to pitch in.

So Okay. I guess we'll use yours...AND I went a bit hog wild at the fabrics when I went on the CNY shop hop so I have some kids material as well maybe for the little girls one...or a combination.

So Sue, bring your strip quilt patterns.

Kris, what about cotton batting or binding. Are we good with that or should I get some?

I tried using my straight stitch machine, got one block done and the darn thing started eating my material. Honestly my machine is a pain in the butt with the side bobbin constantly sticking and whatever is going on with the needle arm. ((sigh)) I purchased a pattern to make some handbags and some aprons that I'd like to sell on Etsy to raise adoption costs. Nows the time to get the projects out for Christmas and my dumb machine conks out. ((sigh)) Ah well, maybe sometime in the spring I'll get a nice quilting machine. Things will work out in the end.

I'm excited to see you all again! Woohoo. I've missed ya'll.

Ladies -

I have some quilt patterns that with a couple of us cutting and a couple sewing I think we could do a baby quilt in a day, maybe both. It involves strip quilting, so it goes fast. Want me to bring them?

That's perfect Rebeka!!

While I'm always up for gawking at beautiful fabric, I have to ask....do you have ANY idea how much kid fabric I have collected & not used over the years?!?!?!? If you REALLY want to go get some new fabric, I'm game to go with you but you might also save that money for a special project down the line. It's up to you!!!

Hi Everyone!

I just found out today that the Project Christmas Child is in fact the same time. November 15-22nd. If I remember correctly it was around the middle of the month to drop off to the pickup location. So if everyone is willing, we can make two lap quilts the size of the last one. It doesn't have to be HUGE. Just enough for a little boy and a little girl to cover up in.

I bet this project will be such a gift for them. Just to know how many people cared enough to make them something special. If you all wouldn't mind, I'd also like to take a picture of the group so I can pin it to the quilt along with a card for them.

Kris, I have "some" material but am wondering if you'd like me to get enough to make both quilts. If so, maybe you can come along and shop with me the saturday before? If you have time. I'd like to go to either Calico Gals or Patchwork Quilts (who has a TON of fabrics for children and just in general. I bet you'd like the stores too. Could be a nice time out for you. Maybe we could make it a lunch or dinner afterwards too if you'd like.

Let me know!

I also wanted to put up a link to more information on Project Christmas Child. www.samaritanspurse.org/index.php/oc

Rebeka, why don't you find out the deadline for the boxes cause if its early November we need to do that one now.

I totally dig the suggestions!! I actually have some fabric that is strips that have already been sewn together & we just need to turn them into something!

I have a suggestion for November or December.

Doug and I do two shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child through Samaritan's Purse where we fill the shoebox with supplies children around the world can use. We usually take TWO boxes and support a boy and a girl.

I think it would be LOVELY to fill a little lap quilt in them made for a boy and a girl. I can't remember if it's due in November or the first week in december, but would be such a lovely gift for a child in a third world country who doesn't have one.

As for October, We could do a regular 6 or 9 patch. Doesn't take too long to do.

Different charities could be The VA, An elderly home, Battered Womens Shelter, Even a womans prison. Imagine what it would mean to get a hand made quilt from someone who took the time when everyone else may have given up on you? What a way to minister to someone in prison and offer them hope and a better future just by reaching out.

Hi again ladies-
I would love to join you, however, our Sundays are jammed. 2 Fall baseball games & 2 soccer games every Sunday for the next 6 weeks. I'll keep checking the boards though to see what you guys are up to and if by chance there is a rain out (baseball) and time coordinates for quilting/soccer games, I'll try to make it. It would be nice to see you again too! emoticon

Roxanne, you set up a Google account (free & fairly easy) then you click on the "calendar" link, it asks some questions and then it's set up!!! I've actually set up the Syracuse Sparks one so all I need is a PM giving me your email & I can share the calendar.

Kris,

September is pretty booked for us too. We have a wedding one day with the reception...believe it or not we have a wedding BREAKFAST the next morning (NEVER heard of doing this before), we're volunteers each sunday in Sept. for coffee bar cleaning at the church AND Dougs vacation is the third week which means we may be in the Daks. lol

So, maybe October would be a great month to start??

P.S., Want to let everyone know that Mission Rose Quilt Store is holding a bunch of sales this month. Now's the time to get your holiday fabrics for fall and winter: www.missionrosequiltery.com/

Okay, I pick the 3rd Sunday of the month. Shall we make it a date??

Does anyone do Google Calendar? I can set up a Spark Syracuse Google Calendar so we can keep track, meld it with family calendars and maybe even add OTHER events!!!

Now, having decided....I'm not 100% sure about September. We may be doing something the 3rd Sunday, I'll know more this week.

Who's in????

I would LOVE to. It'll help me get a bit more experience too.

For anyone else interested, you don't really need the experience. If this is something you've wanted to do and were afraid, it's the perfect opportunity to learn, get together and make something for charity. We have lots of fun together too!

I really had a LOT of fun working on the quilt with Rebeka (HISIRISHGEM), Lois (LOISNEEDSHELP), & Sue (SUEACCT) and it came out really good!!

I wanted to know if any of you ladies that were there or any of you Peeps that weren't there are interested in maybe making it a monthly thing?? I'd be happy to host & offer up my never ending supply of fabric!

We even had a lovely dinner after 2 1/2 hours of working on the quilt!! A SP recipe of course!

The only thing I would ask would that it be the same day each month (say 3rd fluff-day of the month) & Sunday afternoons work best for me (especially since we are knee deep in Marching Band now).

We can donate the finished blankets to Project Linus or some other organization or even rotate the charity.

For information sake, I live in the village of East Syracuse.

Let me know if you're interested!!! I'm fairly certain we can count Lois in!
