Poor guy my old red tabby tom Malcolm fell in the house and broke his back foot years ago and he came up to me crying. His back foot was in an arc and he had it up in the air - the vet couldn't/ didn't do anything for him and suggested we put him down and I didn't want to do that as he was only 9 at the time and so they suggested we keep him in a quiet place and not to let him walk - the wife put a litter box upstairs and everything but he insisted upon using the downstairs one- it took him 5 minutes to go down the stairs and then he had to rest for 5 minutes and go do his business and then he struggled to go upstairs - eventually his foot did heal sort of he still had trouble going downstairs. He lived for another 2 years after -he died in his sleep. So my heart goes out to the little guys.

So today he is walking with his leg free. For 4 weeks he had a hard splint, then massive amounts of soft wrapping. Check up today, he's healed.

Thank you for your support everyone.

I have a cat that arrived as a youngster. One day his left eye looked bizarre. I took Sofi to the vet, and the eye was surgically removed. My husband took Sofi to be spayed at about 5-6 months. They put Sofi to sleep, cut the belly, no organs. Turns out Sofi was a male. Poor thing woke up with two incisions. As a result of the loss of the eye, he took a while to get his coordination back.

One night we heard an awful ruckus from the roof and down the tin roof of the room at the back of the house. Sofi came in limping. X-rays showed that he had fractured the smaller long bone in his right front leg. I don't recall the name of the bone. He had to be in a cast for 6 weeks, but he kept managing to slide it below his elbow and they would have to put him to sleep and redo the cast each time.

To keep him safe, we kept him isolated in a room of our house. He had a litter box, food, water, thick blankets on the floor to sleep on. A couple of times a day we'd let his special friend cats into the room to snuggle with him. He wanted to be out and about, but I felt it would be too dangerous for him.

I gave him arnica tablets (Washington Homeopathic brand in milk pills) several times a day to help with the trauma.

Now, some 5 years later, he's happy and healthy with no limp.

So sorry! It could be worse. Max fell and broke his hip and had to have surgery to create a false hip joint. It won't take too long and your guy will be moving around like before.

Aw, poor baby. I hope you don't feel too bad; at least it's taken care of now, and you didn't know before. He'll heal! (8 lives left, right)!

It's harder on you than him...My kitty, Casey, broke his front leg when he was 9 weeks old! He had to wear a cast for 9 weeks. After that first initial fright & pain at the ER, he never slowed down, he ran around just like he had nothing on his leg! it healed just fine & he will be 8 years old this year..

So tonight my hubby and I realized that my cat broke his back leg. Last I saw him he was on a high shelf. So went to the emergency vet, found out he broke 4 metatarsals. So now he has a splint on left back leg and I feel awful. Not sure how to make things easier for him. Any advice appreciated.
