Trying to be thankful for the howling winds. I'd like it better if it wasn't blowing more leaves into my yard.

Thankful Gus wasn't really hurt when Jack (the new wild dog) crashed into him and knocked him down on the sidewalk last night. Poor old guy! A long massage for his back and hips and he was pretty good. I'm still struggling to give him the injections. But the new medicine seems to be helping Gus and I am grateful for that!

Grateful the event on Saturday is going to let me set up a table to get my Christmas cards for deployed soldiers signed. That will work out much better for me than trying to get the senior citizens to do it on their lunch tables!

Grateful to have given Grace her bath today! She looks just beautiful all puffed up and pearly white! She feels so soft and fluffy!

Grateful to have power in this high wind. Sounds like Helena has 12,000+ without power today!

Grateful to have laundry and ironing done. Back to work tomorrow!

Grateful that I have such a big, deep bathtub to relax in! Lots of things I would like to change in this dump but the tub is a real blessing!

Thankful for the the good weather and energy to get lots of yard work done! Thankful for my old dogs. The new medicine seems to be helping Gus move better and Grace is getting better with her antibiotic!

Grateful to be crossing things off the "to do list"

Today was much like yesterday! Glad the dogs were happy to settle in while I napped! So thankful for those little fluff balls!

Thankful for a wonderful big soaker tub! Thankful I could enjoy the smells of the essential oils today. Still congested but getting better every day!

Grateful I took the time to make a list of all the things that need to be done. It's a long list but helps so much to be able to set the priority items! I think it will feel good to check off several items each day! So thankful I don't have much work this week so I can do my own projects!

Grateful I was able to nap on and off for most of the day! Feeling better but still an ear ache and nasty cough! Thankful they are predicting 5 days of no precipitation and temps in the 50's so hope to get garage cleaned out! And finish up some Fall chores outside!

Tonight I am thankful that we didn't get much snow out of the last storm. I am thankful that the new medicine for Gus is cheaper and seems to be working. I am grateful for a toasty warm home! I am thankful I love to cook and have been making soups and stews for the freezer. I am grateful the new dog is settling in. I thought I would have to return him!

It just keeps snowing but I am so very grateful that I have been able to keep up with it. I am grateful that we still have power. I am grateful that I have not lost any trees - the trees in my yard that are bent to the ground will bounce back when the weight of the snow is off of them. I am so very grateful that the patio cover did not collapse under the weight of the snow. There are lots of tree branches and big limbs all over town. The clerk at the grocery store told me her son had called to tell her that their patio cover collapsed. I am especially grateful to have found a nice guy that I think will come and shovel snow for me all winter!

A few years ago I got the 'contract' from a guy who came whenever it snowed and did the shoveling. I got it as a Christmas present for my mom. Worked well for us. You paid upfront and if there was no snow, you were just 'covered' and it happened to be a horrific snowy winter so I ended up couple months having to pay more. Still well worth it. Last winter there was just no one available to do it. So I explained to this young guy and he seemed to think he could do that. It's a great gift to give to elderly people! My mom always freaks out about the front walks - even though only the paper boy uses them!!

And I'm grateful this week for a new dog! Still working on a name for him. He's a wild one. He came from the Beaverhead Rescue in Dillon.

Thankful that I don't have to cook for the crew today! One more lazy day! Have cube steaks thawing, lasagna in the freezer, so only have to do salads and pies and deviled eggs the next couple days. Will be a giant load of ice though!

Very windy but so far, no rain. Seems it was every where around us. We just got trace and some places almost 2 inches over the weekend? That's why no cutting today...too wet in the fields!

So thankful I was able to get an appointment today for a massage. Usually it takes a couple of weeks and I am in pain from pulling a groin muscle and my lower back so the fact that Kevin could get me in this afternoon was such a wonderful thing.

I'm thankful that it's cooler today. Would have been nice to have this cooler weather during harvest but harvest is always hot and dry. We had a little rain last night and lots of thunder and lightening. Supposed to be much cooler this weekend and rainy so wonder if we really will start harvesting the spring wheat on Monday or if it will be too wet.

Feeling good after a long night's sleep! Life is good!

Montana is so different from the West to the East, but itís all beautiful and unique. One thing that doesnít change in any of the regions is the hard working good people and the beautiful moments we share mixed with nature. This is Godís country.

Had a trying day yesterday. I asked my mom to ride along when I went out to Nick's farms to pick up the coolers I use for harvest cooking. It was the hottest day of the year so far (and we hit 100į!!! emoticon

We got the coolers and headed out on the county dirt roads for another one of the farms so she could see how the wheat and other crops looked. The little pick-up died. And it just kept dying. I walked a couple miles back to where I had seen a vehicle out looking at their fields. They were gone by the time I got back. My mom was nervous and irritable and complaining. I kept calm and just kept making forward progress. I finally got us up to the main shop and no one was working but was able to make it past the shops and up another half mile to one of the houses. I opened the door and hollered but no one answered. I went in to use the phone and then it dawned on me the phone was in the shop, not the house since everyone who stays there has their own cell phones. (and I couldn't find my cell phone since returning from my trip to the VA hospital last month). As I was on my way out to tell her to come in and cool off, Charles came up from the basement. We scared each other to death!!! He didn't hear me holler but then thought he heard someone walking and thought it was his girlfriend back from the grocery store!

I asked him if he thought i might just be like the old 'vapor lock' because of the heat. He's not very mechanical but he did use his phone to call the guy who had just done $1000 worth of tune-up and repair work. That guy told me it might be 'vapor lock' and I could try just limping it back to town - about 30 miles. Charles offered to take us back but was worried about not having a/c in his old Blazer. I was worried about Mother but she was friendly and chatty. Charles called Nick and he said he was just getting the "Kiwi's" settled in and would be over in a hour or so to see if he could help. He arrived about an hour later and told me to just take the RAV4 back to town and then he could tow the pick-up tomorrow or the next day. So I took mother home in the RAV4.

Fixed her some dinner and then headed out to trade vehicles. She thought it was stupid for me to try to get it back to town. I had a 10:00 appointment the next morning to get another tooth extracted. I figured it would be hot again and I wouldn't be feeling well and I wanted to get the pick-up back to town to have it looked at. Plus I didn't like the RAV4. I didn't want to use Nick's vehicle. I just had to have faith that the pick-up was fine, but just hot and tired from going slow in the heat. I headed out and there was a whole lot of lightening to the south and the west. The temperature was dropping. I was hoping it didn't hail. I've never driven those farm roads in the dark and that was a different experience. Just as I turned off the highway it started to rain. The lightening was moving to overhead and to the north.

It was a beautiful storm. I love the smell of rain on the dust! I love the negative ions in the air. I am totally in awe of the beauty of lightening. Nick had gotten down off the tractor he was working on because of the lightening. He was tired and wanting to go home but needed to get the oil change finished because someone was coming out to work it early in the morning. We stood and talked and watched the storm - enjoying the wind and lightening. We saw a lightening strike hit the ground near the town of Kremlin and all the lights went out. We supposed that it hit the power substation. Was strange to see the whole tiny town go dark on the horizon. I decided it was time to test my faith and headed over to the pick-up. My back up plan was that if I didn't make it, eventually Nick would be along and find me along the highway.

I drove with no problem up to the highway. Pulled onto the highway and headed for home in the rain - and the passenger wiper blade was flopping. So grateful it was the passenger and not the driver side wiper blade! Ran through all the gears and the pick-up was running fine. Made it home. Was going to stop at Wally World and get another Trac phone but figured Mother would be freaking out about whether I had made it so I came on home after filling up with gas. She was good. Said she knew how I was and I would get home somehow, some time. I appreciated that more than she will ever know.

So I'm seriously grateful this morning for all the things that went right and that there is no problem with the little pick-up. I also was late for my dental appointment and so they said they'd have to reschedule me. That was also a huge blessing. I scheduled the extraction for the end of August so I don't have to deal with it until after harvest. And when I finally got to Wally World it was almost closing time and no one was available to help me with a new Trac phone...and guess what I found this morning? I am feeling really blessed that things work out exactly how they are supposed to. I am also so grateful for the awesome power of nature. I am grateful that no fires were started by the lightening and that it never did turn to hail. I am going to start some laundry and replace the wiper blade and get busy on some chores I was afraid I wouldn't get to because of having the tooth pulled. The one I had pulled last week is healing well. Life is good!

Glad we had such a successful rummage sale and fry bread and Indian taco sale at the Senior Center. It's a good fund-raiser for us and seems like just too much trouble for many of our elders to go up to the fairgrounds these daze...plus not much up there to see anymore. I think county fairs on going the way of the dinosaur even though there are groups that don't want to see that happen. Just no volunteers to work the booths and not enough people going out to them anymore. I remember how I used to love the fairs all over the state.

I am thankful for a nice, funny doctor at the ER last night and an amazing nurse that I know. I went to the dental clinic for a toothache yesterday. I walked in because they had not returned my calls. They got me in. The tooth was abscessed so they pulled it right then. I was concerned about not getting an antibiotic before the extraction nor one to go home with. By 9 p.m. I couldn't swallow. Went up the the ER and they gave me IV antibiotics and did a CAT scan to see how far the infection had spread. I was there over 5 hours but they took really good care of me. I'm so thankful to have a good ER for this kind of stuff.

I am also grateful that they were able to get me in to see the dentist as quickly as they did. I have another appointment with him in a couple of hours for the 'comprehensive' exam. I am terrified of dentists. He seemed pretty good so will give it a chance. I was expecting to have to wait weeks to get in and the tooth was really bothering me so I'm glad, that even though the infection almost got out of control, that I was able to get in and that the extraction wasn't too painful and I liked the guy's "bedside manner".

I'm also grateful on this windy morning for the great mechanics that have my little pick-up. I had to have my mom call them and tell them to park it inside for over night since the locks don't work. When I called at 11 this morning the mechanic told me the good news/bad news stuff. It needs to go for shocks and it's more money than I wanted to spend...but I will be driving it on the highway and on dirt county roads with no cell (or any other kind of) service and with these guys, I feel comfortable that they are doing a good job and I will be safe. I am also thankful that I have the money to pay for the repairs and maintenance. I am just thankful to be feeling better and that it's not too hot today. I am going to take a bath and get ready to go back to the dentist. It's a good day.

I am so thankful that nothing showed up when they did the tune-up on my car. The check engine light was an entirely different code than it was last Friday? They told me to take it out to Havre Tire to get an alignment appointment - that the rear struts were leaking but could wait a year or so for replacement. So when I got out there, they wanted to do the alignment "right now". I laughed and told them I didn't have any money, would have to run home and get it. They said they'd go ahead and do it and then I could run home and get the money. It's amazing to live in a place where that happens.

And as I was sitting there, my dear friend, Paul, brought in his car to get the tires rotated so we got to catch up a little and work on some road trip planning. We've been playing phone tag for about a month.

I am so thankful that the car worked out so well. I was concerned that it would be major engine work and turned out to be computer glitch. I am thankful that I finally got to meet up with Paul and we have planned an excursion for Saturday. It is always hard to coordinate our busy schedules and couldn't believe he was going to be free on Saturday. We'll drive out to an old diner car that they have moved further west to another town and are once again serving burgers and fries and milk shakes. Only has 9 stools!

I'm grateful for the summer heat finally showing up. We need the heat to ripen the wheat!

Had to get up and take the car down for a tune up. The check engine light is on and it's the #2 and #4 cylinder. Hope it only needs spark plugs changed but we shall see. It also needs shocks and struts. I am so thankful that I have mechanics that I trust that keep my old vehicles running. I am so proud of these guys for opening up their business and the fact that they are so busy because they are so good. (even if it means I have to wait weeks to get an appointment). It's great to see people who love their jobs and provide good service succeed!

Thankful I got the grass mowed! Need to weed eat some of the hillside (too steep for a swather) to get the yard finished but sure looks better! Thankful I didn't drive to Great Falls yesterday to watch the WWII planes land! They didn't come - bad weather from Kalispell! Grateful most of the fireworks have stopped! Grateful that even though we are under a severe thunderstorm watch for this evening and tomorrow it won't be earthquakes!

So thankful that the storm yesterday wasn't as bad as predicted. There was a tornado and also baseball sized hail but none of that within 100 miles of us. The weather service alerts made me really nervous!

Thankful I was able to roll my big butt out of bed early today and get that flag flying for Flag Day (and what would have been my Dad's 86th birthday). I'm so thankful that I had him as a father and as a friend. He was such a great Dad.

I'm grateful for the rain in the night so I don't have to water (much) today. And for the cooler than yesterday temperature! I've very thankful we didn't get any hail and the wind smelled so good and I love how fresh it makes the house smell when I let it flow through all night!

I'm thankful it's Friday and I have a full schedule for today and tomorrow.

I'm grateful to have gotten my consult appointments synced so I only have to make one trip down to Helena (and hopefully we won't have started harvest by then!)

I'm grateful that I have laundry hanging on the line and the wind is drying it and making it smell so amazing!

I'm thankful to be alive and that life is so good!

Today I am grateful for the unconditional love of my dogs. I am grateful it was cooler and windy today. I got Gracie's bath and puff-up done, finally. If my knees weren't hurting so much I might try to give Gus his bath tonight. It was another beautiful sunset.

Had a good day at work. My sweet and sour chicken turned out good and got lots of nice comments. I bought a beef brisket yesterday at IGA and had an 'ah ha' moment and took it to the center and baked it there all day instead of heating up MY house!

Got the bed hauled from the center. I bought it at the rummage sale last fall and have been storing it down there. The new director offered to haul it for me!! So it's in the garage and hopefully I can get the old one out and the ceiling fan replaced in the next couple of days and have a good bed again! Also took a couple chairs down there and brought home the one my mom had in her office (which was my old desk chair). Nice to have a good chair back at the computer again.

Got several bedding plants in the ground. Watered the lawn and flower beds this afternoon. Going to go to bed early.

Thankful for a safe trip to Helena in the dark. Thankful for wonderful techs who did my MRI. Thankful the thrift store was closed on my way through Great Falls so I didn't have to fight with myself over buying new stuff. Really grateful that the Home Depot in Great Falls had some coleus. I have looked all over town here and most of it was "lost' during the snow storm on April 28th. I can get it in the pots tomorrow and get them out in the spot by the garage. They do so well in the shade and look so nice when I pull in.

Grateful for the love and support and motivation I got by stopping by to see my old friends, Mike and Vicki, on the way out of Helena today. We laughed and cried and talked for over 4 hours. Old friends really are the best kind. And we were in the National Guard together, I worked with Mike on tanks at Ft. Harrison on temporary duty. I helped him when he was trying to set up a local Viet Nam Veterans of America (VVA) chapter in Helena. They loved my husband and were so supportive when he died. I love their kids and spent a lot of really late nights with Vicki when their oldest daughter died from complications of a car accident. We've been through a lot together. I feel guilty when I am in a hurry and don't stop by when I go to the VA so today, especially, I just needed to "feel the love" and I'm so glad I took the time to stop and visit.

Mother Nature sure can do some damage. I'm grateful we are not involved in the flooding in our area. Watching the weather channel makes me even more thankful for the beautiful weather we are having with so many still experiencing tornados and flooding.

I'm grateful Alex Trebek is responding so quickly to his pancreatic cancer treatment. Makes me think all the prayers for him have really made a difference in what is usually a death sentence. I was very encouraged by his news of the progress!

I'm so thankful little Gracie is doing much better. The anti-inflammatory pills are helping, as is her sunbathing! She lays in the sun like she's a cat instead of a dog! It warms her sore bones and muscles.

I'm grateful for the rain we got on Saturday! I always appreciate it when God does the watering for me! And it makes the weeds easier to pull and the dandelions easier to dig.

I'm so grateful the brownies turned out good. Tried a new recipe and everyone loved them. I'm also grateful for the beautiful strawberries. I heard the rains in CA ruined the strawberry crop so they are going to be expensive this summer if they are available. I might even put some in the old bed since I got all the weeds pulled there!

I'm grateful for the flag burning ceremony I went to yesterday. I hope those young Scouts learn some respect for the flags. It was quite disorganized and in my opinion the youngest kids should not have participated but it was still a solemn ceremony.

I'm always thankful for the gift of my dogs. I am worried about little Gracie today. She someone hurt herself yesterday. I don't know where or how but she howled and howled. She did her business and ate a good breakfast. I gave her one of Gus's pain pills but she's still moving pretty slow. I am going to give her a bath and see if I can feel a tender spot. I have been massaging her but she doesn't seem to have any sore spots. Maybe the movement in the water will help her. If she isn't back to her old self tomorrow I'll take her to the vet. I called but since she is up and around and eating and drinking and peeing and pooping they weren't too concerned.

I'm grateful my mom hauled out the old cake cover. I made an angel food cake for her yesterday and she went downstairs last night and got the old cake cover. It's an exact replica of the one we had when I was a child. (the original burned up in a house fire my mother had in the 80's) I meant to bring it upstairs when I was doing laundry but forgot. When I came over this morning the cake was covered with the old gold and white cover.

I'm grateful for all the good memories I had this weekend of the amazing, wonderful people who are no longer living. I was a little sad Sunday morning while placing flags at the cemetery on the veterans' graves but the longer the day wore on the more blessed I felt to have had some amazing people and great memories and the sadness was replaced by gratitude.

The dishwasher is in the garage. Hopefully I can get enough space cleared this upcoming week to move it to the kitchen and see if it works! A bonus - when I was unloading it, the young woman across the alley hollered over to see if I needed help. I told her 'no' but did go over and find out that she and her family are just temporary residents in that house until their 'new house' is ready for occupancy on June 6th. I though maybe that had bought the place. She was very nice and she introduced me to her rescue pup. He's a beauty - mostly golden retriever and part Irish setter so he is the beautiful dark red of a setter! He's 7 months old.

I am grateful everyday for my beloved bichons! This morning I am grateful that it is not raining - yet! I'm going up to the cemetery to plant the flags on veteran's graves at 9. I'm thankful for the amazing smell of bacon frying. I'm so grateful for my amazing sense of smell. My mom has no sense of smell...seriously, smells nothing. It's been about 10 years and I can't even imagine not being able to inhale the aroma of things.

I'm thankful for my wonderful neighbors, Darren and Denise! I texted Denise about coming to steal some of her rhubarb and she said to help myself. So I cleaned out my patch and then went up and started on hers yesterday. I had planned on taking a couple big bunches to my old friend, Loretta, for her birthday. I was going to put it in the plastic grocery bags and then inside a birthday gift bag. So when I went downstairs to get a gift bag, I found a tall plastic gift bag that had once held a bunch of flowers. It was perfect. There were lots of lovely bouquets of flowers and some gorgeous container planters for outdoors there for Loretta but no one else brought her rhubarb. She was delighted!! (I take her some every year so would have done it anyway but just thought it would be fun to do it for her birthday!) I'm also very thankful that so many people came to help celebrate Loretta's 80th birthday. I was worried that being a 3 day weekend not many would go...the place was packed! And it was great to see some of my other 'old' friends that I hadn't seen in awhile. I really need to go to the Senior Center more often around lunch time just to see people I know.

I just had the best thing happen. My great friend, Grace, went to the cemetery in Malta to do the flowers today. We were supposed to meet for breakfast on their way through. Well, I called her at 8:30 because I had a lot of chores to do and wanted some kind of time frame. She had fallen back to sleep on the couch so they hadn't even left Great Falls yet. So I just went ahead with my chores and was getting a lot done. The phone rang at 10:00 and she said they still weren't on the road so I should just go ahead and do whatever I was going to do. I told her I had an 80th birthday party for a friend at 2:00 and she suggested we just get together when they were on their way home tonight. Sounded good to me! So she called me and told me to bring my little pick-up to meet up with her at the Taco Treat because she had something for me to haul home. I was NOT amused. Couldn't imagine what she was bringing me. Turns out it was a little portable dishwasher! 18" wide. It's used and have no idea if it even works but I'm still so excited.

Don't get me wrong, I actually like doing dishes, but this will be a great help during harvest when I have a lot of dishes to do every night. And there are plenty of things as I'm cleaning that I think would just be wonderful to run through a dishwasher just to rise off the dust and stuff. I still can't believe she thought of me when she saw it. She has teased me for years about not having a dishwasher with all the cooking that I do. My kitchen is just too small. I checked into these over 20 years ago when I bought the duplex. My mom wanted one. Too expensive. And there is not enough counter top space for the counter top kind. Anyway, I'm thrilled that I got to see Grace and that she brought me this present. I hope it works!

Today I'm thankful that after all the work I did yesterday I woke up feeling great and ready to hit it again. Been going all morning and thought I'd take a little spark break. I'm thankful for the motivation that has me working both inside the house and out in the yard on several projects that I've put off for way too long!

Rained most of the night so I don't have to haul out the hoses this afternoon! I'm always grateful when God does my watering for me!! And it's a beautiful morning. Nary a cloud in the sky and a light breeze so I have opened the windows at my mom's place and at mine too...let out some stuff winter air that feels like it's lingering.

Tonight I'm grateful for pain pills! I got a new refrigerator for mom so had to quick scrub the floor and walls when they took the old one out! Had to level the new one. Then used the carpet shampooer to suck up the dirty water that drained from the old one. I shampooed only half the kitchen. I HATE kitchen carpet! But my mom wanted it. I had taken apart the stove and given it a good cleaning waiting for the delivery.

Went out and got pizza for her and salad for me for supper. She had gone to a tea with some of her church friends to support the local museum. Got the vacuum and shampooer cleaned up and put away. Stove put back together and stuff hauled back over to her house from my frig and freezer and then went out and mowed the front lawn.

My back and arms are sore. Leveling that frig was hard work! Mowing the slope was hard! Summer chores will get me back in shape! But I just took a pain pill. Need to do a Wal-Mart run to pick up a couple thing for breakfast for Mother's Day. She said she'd rather eat at home. Will walk my mile and a half pushing a cart! Then Epsom salt soak and sleep!

Good, productive day and I'm tired....but it's a good kind of tired!
