With my family I started a new tradition. Every year on Halloween night we light candles and tell and or read spooky stories. Well this year we had an accident with one of the candles and the wax went all in the carpet. My husband via the internet found out how to remove the wax. I thought I would share it with the team.
Place a paper towel or bath tissue over the spilled wax. Use an iron on its lowest setting to heat the wax. Wax will soak into the paper towel. You will need to change the paper towel several times, but this worked like a dream!

In your quantities it would only be a level teaspoon. I like the idea of using a spray bottle. I usually mix up a basin full, your idea seems much better.

Ah! Maizena! How much do you add? Are the proportions the same?

I'm not sure what cornflour is called in South America. Arrowroot is another name for it. It's the flour from ground corn/maize. I think it is added to act a soft scouring agent on the window. Otherwise my recipe is the same as yours.

Just water and vinegar? No detergent? What's the proportion?

And what's cornflower Sandy? What is it for?

I also like the vinegar & water mixture. Before using it the first time, though, I clean the windows with alcohol in order to strip off the other cleaners that are still there.

We have used vinegar and what for a long time to clean our window - we put ours in a bowl and use old news paper (with no color ink) to clean our window. I know it sounds crazy but it really does a good job on the windows.

THE BEST EVER WINDOW CLEANER

It's eco-friendly, inexpensive, no toxic fumes, and works really well!

Mix 1/4 cup vinegar,
1/2 teaspoon liquid soap or detergent
2 cups of water

Put in a spray bottle, and it's really for use. can be stored for long periods.

To use: shake well, spray on dirty windows, wipe off with a cloth or paper towel.

I like beans but almost never have them because of the long cooking. I added salt almost at the beginning and never oil! thanks for the info!

Thanks. I added Adobo and Italian seasoning at the beginning. Only because I add that to everything. That must have been it. I turned it on low until around 10pm. Then let it cool off for a few hours. Just went it to put it in the frig a few minutes ago and they are now very soft. almost mushy. But very tasty. I did a no-no and had a healthy tasting before putting it away.

If you add salt before the beans are tender it can almost triple cooking times. Also, I always add oil to beans to help them cook faster. It doesn't take much, maybe 1/4 cup per pound, maybe less, I haven't really measured the amount in years.

Not sure if this is the place, but I have a small dilemma.

My first try at making bean soup from dried beans has not been very successful. Beans soaked all day yesterday and cooked much of today. But still not soft and tender. Can anyone tell me what I did wrong and how I can fix it?

Yes, it's a good system. Ken needed shirts so they more or less have to be ironed, Grrr! For a while after we retired there were no shirts but now my son has come back from England he has shirts too and I just hate leaving them lying around the laundry as he prefers to do them when he needs them. they only take a minute so I don't mind too much.

I have the same system! Amazing! Only I don't iron anything! OR barely do. I tend to ..er..let go of clothes that need ironing. And I spend a little more on a good softener.I calculated that the softener costs the same as the electricity spent on ironing (well, I talked myself into believing this, at least!)

You all probably have a way of keeping your dirty clothes in the right place but when I was working and very organised I found this a very helpful way not to have to double the energy. I had two laundry baskets, one for lights (light basket)and one for darks (dark basket). They were both in the same place at the head of the stairs. I use cold water so it's okay to put lights with whites. The kids learned to put their washing in the appropriate baskets so that every day I would just take an alternate basket and wash then the next day iron while the other load was washing.

I am looking for suggestions on dealing with pet hair. I have two inside dogs a pug and puggle, even though we comb them and run the sweeper regularly we still have a lot of dog hair. Any suggestions?

I fill DH's sharps containers with plaster of paris over the needles so it can go in the regular trash can. Sometimes I will empty old pills in before adding the plaster.

I found out today that when you need to dispose of medicines, and don't have a place to do so in your area, you should check with your pharmacy to see if they will take them back. If they don't the official method of disposal is to combine them with kitty litter or used coffee grounds and put into a sealable container, like a coffe can with lid, or a zip-loc bag, or such, and place in the trash. I had done this before, but I did not know that this was the official take on how to do it. This will help keep our water cleaner and safer.

I had a de-piller once- just learnt the word from you Cynthia, thanks!. BUt it was too rough on the fabric. What I actually meant is (looked it up) a safety razor. Here we have the plastic disposable type and that's what I use. I also learnt you call those little balls fluffs!
So my hint on shaving clothes was for removing fluffs!. I love English!

oh, btw, if you want to get rid of those white threads on your black clothes, or hair from your clothes, the easiest way is by putting some adhesive tape like a bandage around your hand, the adhesive part on the outside , and then brush the clothes with your hand.

CLOTHES SHAVING:
-I knew you'd be curious!LOL!-
You know those little balls that form on some cotton or wool clothes?
You can easily get rid of them by shaving them the same way you'd (or should I say, your husbands?) shave. Same little shaving disposable device. What are they called?
It works great!

wouldn't have thought of that! Another way to erase permanent marker from whiteboards or glass, those kinds of surfaces, is to write on top with whiteboard marker. Aftr that you can erase it easily.

Permanent marker can be removed from almost any surface with Mosquito repellant. At least it works with the spray can type. I haven't tried the lotions, etc.

When I was looking at Katty's teeth cleaning I thought of a good hint for using old electric toothbrush heads. As you probably know old toothbrushes are great for getting into difficult places. Try using your electric toothbrush with an old head and the work is done in half the time and the smaller head with the rotation does a great job.
