I agree with you honey. Better to lose it slowly than to gain it back by going too fast and then eating when you're tired. Slow and steady wins the race! Get some rest my friend. Love, Dawn

Sorry I haven't been on, I've just worked too really long days..today was about 10 hours....tomorrow will be even longer....argh!!

I'm very tired and didn't eat as well today...another argh....tomorrow I plan to be a strict girl and get on with it for the rest of the week....I'm up but I'll get it back off and more, I don't want to have to change my ticker....it feels good to have it moving....

I know what it's like to lose a lot of weight, and I also know what it's like to gain it back.....I would rather have this go slowly and at least go then slip back again....remember I said I was worried about overeating when I'm tired...if I know myself that well than I wish I could stop myself from doing that overeating, and just be tired!!

Tomorrow, tomorrow, I am hoping for a good day!!

Dawn..... my dear friend,

Let me answer those 'what if's' for you.

What if you don't reach your goal? Are you not still a winner for have come so far? Do you believe you can fail? I sure don't. Your determination and blogs, posts and friendship all show the world YOU ARE A WINNER, and you will make it!
What if you still look fat at 180? Can you not change your goal and move forward? Sure you can, and I know if you feel that way that you will, and you will succeed at that goal too!
What if your boobs fall to my knees? Well roll them up and place them in your bra, that's what it's for, to hold and support them.
What if your stomach never goes away? Well, first, it will as you lose weight it can't just stay there, it has to shrink, second, I know you will exercise to help firm it up as you are doing such a great job exercising now. There are things you can do to help and I know you will find, challenge and surpass any of your own expectations!

So as long as you what if......... you will find an answer from the wonderful people here on Spark pages and in blogs, and you will be determined to get past them. YOU are a WINNER!

Kathy......... My goodness 80 lbs! What a wonderful achievement. And to have kept it off, how wonderful and inspiring is that! You are amazing and I know you will Spark on and continue to encourage those who are starting the same journey you have already traveled. Thanks ever so much.

Both of you are amazing and I look up to and admire you............ thank you for being here are spark and helping others like myself with your achievements and knowledge.......

Hugs, Ma

I hear you Dawn - that is the story of my life.

Things got way better after I realized that I HAD lost about 80 lbs, and I HAD kept it off for more than a couple of years.

I still 'what ifs', but not very often any more. You'll get there too, you are doing an amazing job with everything else, this too will come in its own sweet time!

When I get caught up trying to look down the road to my BIG goals... I get easily frustrated because I am human and have a touch of that "need for instant gratification". It's going to take me 3 years to complete the "project to a fitter Dawn" and I have to stop getting hung up on "it's going to take forever... " and the "what ifs" that plague me... like What if I don't reach the goal? What if I still look fat at 180? What if my skin is all saggy, wrinkly and gross? What if my boobs fall to my knees? What if my stomach never goes away? What if What if What if......... I could what if myself into oblivian. This is one of the main things that I struggle with and constantly have to keep myself in check on.

I hope that you're all having a great day. I am babysitting and the kids are out jumping in leaves. I hope no ones breaks anything. Yikes! Love, Dawn

I agree totally! Small goals, and short time frames of just 1 to 2 weeks work best for me too.

I find that I have to constantly remind myself to stop looking too far ahead. I think that looking at 1 week increments is the best for me and probably for most of us.

Thanks everyone--if I can do this consistently for awhile that would be so nice (like about a year, hello!!) and then I would lose my weight...

Maybe I need to really think in one week increments...

That's how we weigh our cat because he will not get on the scale, step on without him, note the weight, pick him up, note the weight....

Dawn, I get confused to over what to eat and following carbs vs. calories....I went on Atkins about 3 years ago and lost 100 lbs (I've gained back only half which is great but still I've gained back half).....I got sick of eating no carbs, I need a piece of bread sometimes--so I'm just trying to eat healthy now and learn what works and what doesn't.

I'm unfortunately just not the kind of person who can write down every morsel...

I stayed the same today but I have to confess I had seconds on my beef stew, it was nummy! And I made brown sugar brownies and had them also. I did not overeat even with the seconds, and I did exercise and drink water, which is why I stayed the same I'm sure...

It was good to have the "over" part be something healthy at least, and that's one thing I'm trying to teach myself...if I'm hungry reach for healthy---I think that is really going to help me lose this...

Today I go back to work, I work swing so won't be home until after midnight.....first day back after two weeks off, and I am taking in a small tupperware serving of beef stew and a salad--no pizza for me!!

Have to share something with you Dawn about the scale. when I got on this morning....I had lost 235 lbs. Yeah....right, darn scale, and I just bought it too....as I stepped off...my darling puppy, ran over and stood on it!!!! So, it was registering his weight and not mine....it's not good to mess with my mind first thing in the morning....(smile)

I always weigh in at the same time on the same day of the week and before eating or drinking anything... and AFTER going potty. (and naked) My scale is always placed in the same spot and I am the only one who uses it. Yes, I am a bit particular about this but I am serious about it and I don't want anything to deter me. A bad weigh in can throw me for a loop and I don't want that to happen. I only lost 1 pound this week but I am going to be grateful for that and move on. I am getting confused about calorie levels and exercise and all that stuff. I blogged about it yesterday. I am really just going to chill out and do what I think is best and hope for everything to fall into place. I didn't put this weight on overnight and it's not going to come off over night either! Love to all of you. Dawn

Funny! I get up early to get the grandkid off to school (Mom (my daughter) leaves for work super early so she's already gone) and if I weigh myself right then and then weigh myself 2 hours later without eating or anything, I can be a different weight!

So I just pick a time and try to stay to that.

I lost about 1/2 lb this morning, I'm happy..I've been exercising and trying to eat well, so that's good...I'm making a big pot of beef stew today for the family (it's my day off) and looking forward to that for dinner....and hopefully a whole lb off by tomorrow so I can change my ticker!!

All the suggestions here are great, thanks so much!

Here's a laugh. . . I've gained two pounds last month. . and this week have been very conscious of what I eat.

I ate dinner, got on the scale and gained two pounds. I was so upset. Then it hit me, you don't weigh right after eating.. . Oh silly me!

I think being able to talk about something sometimes can help with conquering it....but binge eating, or just eating too much turns so many people off that they can't get past it to help us!

I so appreciate all the support and help here...you REALLY know what I'm talking about, you understand emotional eating and how difficult it can be to fight, so it makes me trust your suggestions and responses so much more.

Well, the last couple days have been much better, and I have kept off the lb I lost, so my ticker is accurate!

I bought myself a few prepared salads and have them in the fridge and that is going to be dinner for the next two days...I found one at Trader Joe's that has roasted beets and chicken w/Feta and lettuce--it's really nummy and both low carb and low cal....

It's also something I can take to work....so that helps.

I am really focused on seeing the scale go down this week, even if it's only 1 or 2 more pounds!!

Scarlet~ I hear you.....I don't have a problem with binge eating....more of a problem of eating in general...(smile), but although the lbs are moving downward VERY SLOWLY, I am feeling so much better, more energetic, etc. Don't get me wrong there are plenty of "funky" days...but someone here told me the most important thing, is to keep moving forward, never to give up, and I think thats' very important. Two things that I have found that have also helped, is one, when I'm hungry, I force myself to drink water first, then if I'm still hungry, I have a "hand" snack. A "hand" snack is something which fits in one hand, once. Such as some nuts, or a piece of fruit, etc. The other thing I noticed is that if I'm CRAVING something, I go and instead of eating the whole thing, I try to break it in 1/4's for example. One quarter of a candy bar...cause I have discovered if I don't eat what I really want...I eat everything else...and soooo much more of it...then I figure what the heck...and eat what I wanted in the first place...don't know if this helps or not....but just remember to hang in there we're all in this together!

I agree that binge eating is a big issue for many of us and that it is not often discussed. I am glad that we can be honest here and take away it's power over us. I am so proud of all of you posting here for coming back on a regular basis no matter what struggles that you are going through. That alone is a victory. Keep on sparking on my friends. You inspire me to try harder! Love ya, Dawn

Binge eating isn't something you talk about, but it's a relief to see so many have the same problem. I've gotten past a majority of my triggers. . It's not easy, but this will be a better week!

Scarletrabbit, I can identify with everything you've said because i've said it all before myself. I have been on Spark for over a year, but I would log in for a while, start to eat poorly & stop logging in. I returned to it in July & after one year I actually weighed more than when I had started the year before! I still struggle I have lost & regained the same 15 lbs. over the last four months. But I am learning from the people here. So even when I eat & gain I log in! I know if I don't do that I'll just keep gaining! One thing I've learned that is that we have to DECIDE not to eat. Even when we say, "I'll try" that is a decision, but it's one that let's us make a poor choice. We have have to commit to ourselves first of all, that WE WILL!!

So don't beat yourself up just decide to log in & post. Then take it one step at a time from there!

Happy Birthday!!! Here's to you emoticon and a whole new healthy life!

Hugs, Dee

Abundant Blessings, Dee

Okay, I'm just getting through today (my birthday) and with tomorrow's weight I'll get into this in earnest...probably not the smartest to start right before being taken out to lunch and dinner on the same day, right?

I'm not planning to eat poorly but the nature of eating out is that I doubt I'll lose anything, and it being my birthday I will have a dessert (better than a cake in the house, that's for sure!)

I'm reading and lurking even though I'm not posting...this is a good site with a lot of good people and I do really feel it is going to help me...so I will soon be on more regularly...and I know that will be better for my success too...

Okay, on to the birthday and then back here quick!!

I am also an emotional eater and food addict (particularly sweets) and although I understand that I am working on not giving in to it...I KNOW the right foods to eat, I've lost 100# twice (this last time only gained back 1/2 of it so I'm happy about that), but it's the draw of the food or the drama of my life that challenges me.

I don't have any real drama right now, thankfully, so it is a good time for me to step up against my addiction....

I see the wonderful losses here, and want to post them for me as well,,

Ruth

Thanks so much, you are all so kind...

Today I ate much better than usual, and reached for the popcorn for a snack....I had some sewing and knitting to keep myself busy, so that was good too..

It was good to get through this day, and now I hope to get through another and another..my birthday is Friday and I've been invited out for lunch (I know the restaurant so that will be fine) and dinner (not sure about that yet)...I will make good choices, but eating out twice may not help with any losses, so I am just looking to stay the same that day...then I can really eat carefully from that day on and get this whole thing together...

But today was a good day, and I can build on that...thank you for caring, and I will try again!!

ScarletRabbit - we have all been there, and some of are still there right now - so we UNDERSTAND and will not judge you. We are more than willing to help you whenever and however you need us. JUST ASK!!!

For now just set small goals for yourself, so that you can feel really successful. Remember that each and every tiny little 'baby' step you take will eventually grow up and become a great big 'adult' stride!!!

Check out different people's spark pages and read their story. There are some real inspirations out there. Take heart, if I can lose weight, so can you!

A suggestion that I would give you ScarletRabbit would be that when you feel a binge coming on.. instead of picking up the food.. get online and look for a spark friend. Typing fingers can't hold food. One of us would be happy to "talk" to you to help you avoid a binge. If that won't work... pick up your dumb bells and workout instead of eating. There are so many options. Please don't binge. YOU ARE WORTH GETTING HEALTHY. I am so wanting to help you. You can contact me. I am up late at night often. I'll gladly help anyway that you need me and I can. Love, Dawn

Try to stay busy. Be up and moving and away from the food. You can do this.

I am exercising, and I always drink plenty...that's never been an issue...

I hope that will be my last binge...that would be so very nice and positive....

Today has been good so far, had a good breakfast and haven't eaten since, much better than yesterday at this time that's for sure!!

Don't be too hard o yourself. You are exercising. Are you drinking water? You need to take your measurements so even if you don't see results on the scale you will in inches. Now you have had your last binge, decide when you should reward yourself and with what your reward should be. It will help you stay focussed. Remember this is a journey, and along the way their will be detours. Just jump back onthe path and follow the road to healthy living. Good luck to you.

I keep doing this and I want to make a change so I really need to get this out there.....maybe I'm not the only one?

I joined this site about a week ago, posted once, then proceeded to overeat for the next week, felt guilty so didn't post, and now I get to change my starting weight as I am up 5 lbs!!!

Why does wanting to make a real change spark a binge in me? What am I afraid of---success? I am not beating myself up here, I just need to find the answers inside of me, so that I can be a part of this community and learn from it and lose the weight I need to lose....but it is frustrating that I do not allow myself to help me!!!

Okay done.....thanks for listening....
