Hi, everyone, I'm new to this forum. We are snowed in and I can't work out. I shoveled snow yesterday, but would love to get to the gym. I am 53 years old. I lost ten pounds by myself, got stuck, started going to a nutritionist. My future daughter in law told me about Spark People, and I love it. So many good recipes. However, my weight is now stuck again. How can I reboot? Thanks for any creative ideas! emoticon

Shoveled snow yesterday and again today. I've run out of place to move the snow to. Both sides of my sidewalk have snow piled up as high as my shoulders and no higher because I can't throw it any higher. And I have lots more snow to move. After more than 5 hours of shoveling snow and the light gone, decided to call it quits for the night. Tomorrow I will shovel the senior neighbor's sidewalk and driveway because she and her husband can't. He broke his ankle when the snow fell in Dec.

Got a good workout, but wish the sun and temperature were warm enough to melt some of the snow.

That's it for tonight.

Happy Saturday to all. Anyone want some free snow?

Thanks for the encouragement, I have been calculating my intake, and exercising like crazy for three weeks. I have finally lost 5 lbs. I can tell by the way my clothes are fitting that by body is shrinking. Yippie. It does work, I just was not being patient enough.

Welcome Susiez,

You will get a lot of help and encouragement here. Start by logging your food and drinking at least 8 cups of water each day.

I just took the RealAge test and am 4.5 years younger than my actual age (I'm 67). Cool. I have cut way back on red meat and eat more fresh fruits and vegetables and not much sugar. My weight is pretty much staying the same so will work on revving that up, do more walking.

I hope those of you who are in the 'snow zone' stay safe and warm. We are having very mild weather here, with dry days and sunshine. I'll take that anyday over snow and cold.

Suziez1, I think that we have all gone through that. I did when I first started and it is frustrating but hang in there it will happen. It took quite awhile for me to start loosing any. But eventually I did loose 13 pounds in approx 6 months. Kept it off for another 5 until my elderly mother moved into my home. Now I have gained 4.5 back so I have started back on the "good road". But it is not coming off so far and it has been about 2 1/2 weeks. I do know that the weight will start coming off again eventually. But do remember that it is important to also exercise.
Good luck and we are all here for your support. You can do it.

It's Friday and weigh in day for me. I'm surprised, but the 2 lbs I gained last week are gone. I'm jumping for joy!!

Since there was no school today, slept in. Just had a late breakfast and now getting started on my exercises. I don't usually exercise this late in the morning, but enjoyed the sleep in. And since I lost the extra 2 lbs, working on getting further down the scale for the coming week.

The snow has started to fall and you can already see the difference in the snow fall. It started out light, but now is increasing in intensity and heaviness.

That's it for now, off to do my exercises and start my hamburger soup for lunch.

Not a good day for me. For whatever reason I had the munchies this morning. Unfortunately I had some munchies at work and munched away. As a result I went over in my calories for the day by lunch time. So watched what I ate from that point on.

Not sure why I got hit with the munchies, but I'm past them and will think about the why.

Right now watching the snow fall and wondering if there will be school delay or cancellation.

Hi every one, I have not written in yet. I just started a new job, so life has been hectic.
I have been following the Spark plan, and staying within the calorie intake, and exercise regiment going on three weeks now. I can't seem to loose any weight, I loose a pound or two then gain it back. I don't eat the meal plan, I calculate my own meal calories.
Is anyone else doing this sort of tracking and loosing weight. Can you share some secrets.I do seem to be low in the protein department in my diet.

Good morning! Just finished my strength workout and am feeling a little nauseous...uck. Not a good way to start the workday! We're getting a little snow here this morning (WI/IL border) and Chicago is broadcasting tons of accidents on the road. It's also voting day here in IL so will definitely have to leave LOTS earlier to get to work on time. I'm rambling here, so have a great day everyone!

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers, everyone! :-) I'm busy with getting as many hours of my work week crammed into 3 days. I have a lot of things to wrap up before I am out on leave for 6 weeks + two days! My clients are all psychologically ready for me to be out for a lengthy period of time. They've been so sweet and supportive of my need to be out. Of course, they don't know what I'm out for, but nonetheless, they've been understanding.

Hi Everyone thought I lost a pound .
My scale said I lost a lb but the drs didn't so will have to go by the drs scale ,still holding at 151 lbs. He cut me back to 50 carbs a day which is almost impossible everything has carbs,it finding which foods has the least amount of carbs. I was taking in over 100 carbs a day .1 medium banana has 28 carbs and a small hamburger patty with no bread has 38 carbs .I ate my last banana and hamburger to day . Will try harder tomorrow .
emoticon emoticon all new members to this great team . God bless.
Kathy Good luck with your surgery Friday .Praying for a speedy recovery .

Another beautiful, but cold day. Did my weights in the morning and then went to the gym in the afternoon to run on the treadmill. Completed almost 2 hrs of walking and running. Got hubby to come along as well. He rode the bike and walked on the treadmill, each 30 minutes, for a total of 60 minutes of cardio. He also did his weights at the gym.

Now we're back home & he wants dinner. So off to cook.

Hope everyone enjoyed Monday.

I am new to both SparkPeople and to this e-mail forum. Can anyone tell me what the 28-Day Challenge is? The idea of a diet with an ending date is very appealing. Actually, I have been tracking my food intake on SP for about 10 days now. I suspect I haven't lost an ounce. (Haven't checked -- too de-motivating.)

Kathy, we'll be thinking of you on Friday..prayers that all goes well. I hope you'll be a 'new woman.' Life is so much less complicated afterwards, lol!

Maryam, it's always good to hear from you..it's been a while!

I had a great unexpected breakfast with my son this morning. He went with me to visit my MIL. I had a great school conference yesterday, have worked on lots of school stuff and am almost ready for tomorrow. I made a healthy chicken, mushroom ,and asparagus dinner with enough left over for tomorrow. A good start to the new week!

Friday was weigh in day and I gained 2 lbs. Not what I wanted to do. SO reviewing my diet and looking at the new foods that I added and rethinking what I need to do to get back on track.

Did my bootcamp in the AM and in the afternoon went to a craft show with hubby, where we did a lot of walking.

Glad it's friday and the snow held off for the day.

Regarding the Nutrition Tracker. I can't get it to work. I track my food, click the foods on the chart and then go to points and the site will only record a few foods. Then I have to keep going back and clicking the foods and finally after about six attempts, it will record all of it. So I just don't bother trying to get it to work.

I'm just starting out too and finding all the tracking a little daunting. I did it for two days though and feel good about that. I also have had a wakeup call about all that I eat, and look forward to developing good long range eating/exercise habits. I love the idea of feedback from others and will try to check the board every day for inspiration.

NoNo (love your name-lol): I would suggest not making too many changes at once. Start out slowly, otherwise you'll get frustrated and give up! Make one or two changes. You could focus on learnng to drink more water and eat more veggies...Be patient and kind to yourself! This site is about creating life long habits-not a short term "diet"! Ask...we will try our best to answer/guide you to good resources!

Good Morning!!

It is overcast and about 45 degrees this morning. At least we don't have to worry about all the cold weather moving across the states.

I feel really chilly this morning and having stomach cramps and a headache. Not a good combination. I hope everyone else is well and staying warm. The phone rang at 6 this morning and woke me up. It was a wrong number--I get them all the time.

Have a good day.

Yesterday was in the 60's and today it barely got into the 40's. What a change!!

Figured out why I'm not losing weight. I changed my diet and included pasta. Forgot that when I add things like pasta, my weight will not go down. I can eat oatmeal and it isn't a problem, but for some reason, when I eat pasta, my body won't give up the weight. So need to get my Carbs from things other than pasta, even though I love eating pasta and was even eating the whole wheat pasta. Will finish off what I have and return to other things for my Carbs.

Exercised this morning, and went to the gym after work for some treadmill running and a spin class.

Home now working on getting things ready for tomorrow.

Got up early to do some of my exercises before going to the dentist this morning. After work, didn't feel like going to the gym to run, so went home to do some more weight exercises.

Had dinner and now just catching up with Spark.

Still working on getting food in the right portions. Stayed within my calorie range, but at the high end.

Didn't sleep well because of the wind blowing and all that rain falling. Brought down some power lines because the tree limbs were falling all over the place from the strong winds and rain. More rain this evening and getting colder.

Today was nice and warm, but too wet for the kids to go out for recess.

Debbie and all the other new "Sparkers", welcome!! :-) We are so thrilled to have new folks here all the time! Please do let us know if we can answer any questions/guide you to a certain area of this website. It CAN be overwhelming at times.

Everything from both refrigerators fit into our nice, new BIG one! Whoohoo! We turned off our old one in the garage. We will keep it to put extra food/drinks in when we have family or friends over.

Today was a crazy day at work. SO much to do, so little time to do it in before my surgery next week! Eek!

Good Morning,
I am new to SP and just starting the 28 day challenge this morning. I too have tried many times (usually starting a new diet about every other Monday) to lose weight and change my eating habits, without success. I am actually at my highest weight (not including pregnancy) ever! I too play tennis and usually go over my weekly fitness levels, but don't do much else as far as that goes. I did start doing weights a couple of months ago, but did something to my shoulder. Have been nursing is since then, but actually have an apt with an Ortho.. Doc this week and hope to get some exercises/physical therapy I can do and then I can start working out again.
Just wanted to check in here and claim my space.
I'm hoping if I stay connected with these boards, I will feel accountable and make progress, so thanks!

Hi Everyone,

I'm really behind reading posts because my laptop quit working (basically) yesterday. I couldn't connect to my server and I thought there was something wrong on my end. After trying eveything I knew how to do to get things working, I finally turned it off and actually got some stuff sorted and tossed out. Amazing. Maybe I should turn off my laptop more often. LOL Anyway it is working now so I guess my server had the problem.

Kathy, I'm glad you have extra time before your surgery to tie up lose ends.

I've done my hall and stair walking off and on all weekend and making good food choices, sleeping better. Not losing anything, just maintaining. My friend gave me a big pile of jeans today and it looks like a few pair will fit me. I know some will be too big so I'll put them on the table in the craft room and someone will snag them.

I hope you all are doing well and drinking your water.

Guess my body didn't like the new foods I've been trying because it would give up any pounds. At least I'm still not gaining, but showing a loss would be nice.

Went to 2 spin classes this morning before going to the Sports & Fishing Expo. Burned a few calories at spin class and then walking around the expo.

After a bit of shopping, spent the rest of the day cooking and watching the football games with hubby.

Now getting things ready for tomorrow since I have to go to the dentist tomorrow before going to work.

Lots to do and so little time.

NThurston, don't give up. Sometimes it takes awhile for your body to respond. One thing I've read somewhere on Spark is that our bodies go into survival mode. I forgot what it said exactly now! It will come off. It took me 10 months to lose 13 pounds, if that gives you an idea how slow the process can be. However, remember you are embarking on a healthy lifestyle now, which is equally important to the weight loss, if not moreso! So, pat yourself on the back for being consistent with that. You are doing your body a great favor by taking care of it! :-)

I too, have been feeling so frustrated. I've been doing SP diligently for 3 weeks now, and have only lost one pound!
I have been exercising 4-5 times a week for 45 minutes with 30 minutes of intense cardio and 15min. of weights.
I'm very motivated to lose 15 pounds, but now I hate to get on the scale because it doesn't budge... any advice?

I'm fairly new to sp too, and have just read thru the last few posts on this thread. I lost 4 pound my first week. Then nothing!! It seems pretty common. No wonder so many of us get discouraged.
I am babysitting my grandaughter this week and had macdonalds for lunch yesterday. First time I've 'broken' my diet for 4 weeks. She's 5 so sure I've burnt off the extra calories with the energy it takes to keep up with her.

I'm quite new to SP and this team, so have just read through several replies. I too am having trouble losing even one pound. I track my exercise and am often above my planned exercise, mostly because I play tennis. And I track my food intake, which is usually controlled. Still, not a pound has come off. I haven't done much with weights. I guess I need to work on that.

Kathy it's nice to be able to replace appliances with what you really want, but better when it's expected.
By the way....LOL....congrats on the weight loss.

Our new and very nice refrigerator is being delivered today! Whoohoo! I'm hoping we don't need to use our second refrigerator anymore. The new one is bigger than the one that just died and has some really nice features. It is also stainless steel, which is the color we want to slowly replace all our appliances. Our dishwasher died several months ago but we are also still paying off a heat pump we had to buy last summer. (yup-heat pump died in late June!). GOsh, our house is made with too many cheap things. :-( The house is 8 years old and it seems like everything is falling apart already. Sigh...HOwever, we are replacing everything with energy star products and higher quality products; we do plan to be here for a long time! We can already see savings on our electric bill with the new heat pump.
Forgot to mention (this IS the name of this thread! LOL) I lost a pound this past week!

Welcome Katharine....We've all been there and know how it feels. I too was like you and Peggie, it seemed like forever before I lost anything and then when I did it felt great. Then there was those darn plateau's. But you just keep going and you start to lose again. I've not been very diligent the last couple of months so I did gain some back. But I am back on track now. So hang in there and it will happen and we are all here to give support whenever we can.

Welcome to the team. It took me (what seemed like) many weeks to start losing any weight, however I could tell I felt better and I started actually looking better. I even started having better color in my face. The weight finally started to come down. Just don't get discouraged, it will happen.

I saw that link, but didn't go there. Thanks for the info. I'll take time to do that tomorrow. I'm getting computer eyes.

How long have you been in the program? I don't seem to be able to stay focused long enough to get any significant weight off. I'm hoping that joining a group will get me support that I need.

As always, looking forward...........

Katzber,

You can add foods that are not listed. When you click on "add a food", look to the right and you will see "Enter a Food Not Listed". Click on it and another window opens up, when you can enter the necessary nutritional information. After entering the nutritional information, click on "save". That will take you back to the previous window (Add a Food).

Note the amount and which meal and then click on "Add Food to Today" to save. It will also save it to your favorites so you don't have to re enter it every time you eat it.

I'm Chinese and the foods that I eat a lot of were not listed, so in the beginning, I had a lot of food to enter. But now it is only occasional.

Hope this helps.

Hey everybody! I'm brand new to this and finding that a lot of healthy foods I eat are not on the list. For instance, I don't eat red meat, chicken or pork so I get most of my protein from veggies and love veggie burgers but they aren't on the list. How close do we have to stick to the meals......can we just watch and track calories?

Mary...wow, what a rough job your husband has right now! I would hate that. My ex was in the Navy and he was gone for three months at a time. That was rough sometimes.

Patty, congrats on losing 30 pounds You are SO close to goal! emoticon I do think the postponement of my surgery is a blessing in disguise. I was stressing about how to get a lot of paperwork done before next Friday. I now have time to do it and probably will only schedule high need clients to be seen during the first week of February, giving me a chance to get all the treatment plans and three month summaries that are due during February completed. I'll feel a lot better if that is all done before I take off for six weeks.
