Patti, I just grinned and grinned at your 30 pound loss 'announcement!' Good for you!

Kathy, I'll let you know, don't worry. He's going to be working in Charlottesville. He worked for the same bank a couple of years ago for about a year and a half. Since he's a consultant he has wide and varied lengths of the jobs. A few have been local but most require travel. Charlottesville requires a flight to Richmond, then a drive...makes for a 7 hour day door to door. That's why he's working for 2 weeks, then coming home for a few days, then going back. He can start treatment once this interim job is over.

Kathy I know you probably just want to get it over, but sometimes there is a reason for the change. It is frustrating when they change dates on you though.
I hope things work out with your daughter, too.

Mary I am glad that your husband has found a new job which he hopes will keep him busy until the treatment.

Mary, remind us again close to his first treatment. I want to keep him in my prayers. Where in Virginia is your husband going to be working?? I work in Springfield, VA but live in MD. I am much calmer today after my crazy day yesterday. I'm gonna take care of myself and workout then we will go refrigerator shopping. Thankfully, we DO have a second refrigerator in the garage! We did have to throw away some food-fish and some veggies that got mushy, but miraculously, all the beef we had in that refrig was still pretty much frozen! Amazing, huh?

Oh, Kathy, I'm so sorry things are so difficult for you...I truly understand the frustration of not having anything be under your control! Prayers for a safe recovery. I had a hysterectomy and bladder suspension at 40 and felt like a different person afterwards. No more migraines was an especially good side effect! I hope it all works out. I hope your daughter will get her money problems under control, too. You never stop being a mom, right?!

Yevettee, welcome back! I've not been here for a week or so myself, but I do think of all of you and hope you're fine.

Margie, my husband saw the oncologist yesterday and has scheduled his first radiation treatment for Feb. 22. He starts a new job in Virginia tomorrow and hopes it will take his mind off the coming treatments. Thanks for asking!

We helped move my MIL's furniture into her asst. living place yesterday. She's still not a Happy Camper but it looks more homey. And we found out that my mom does not have pneumonia...a grateful bunch of sister are we!

Here's to a good weekend for all my Spark Buddies!

You guys are just so amazing!! I can't tell you how much I appreciate your support and suggestions!! I feel so loved here. emoticon
Well, yesterday was a rough Friday: I had to work late (just one thing after another, including a call from a hospital at the end of the day that a client is in the hospital-I have to go there first thing Monday morning-sigh); my surgery was postponed one week!!(the robot they are using during my surgery is not availble Jan 29, so now will do surgery Feb 5); I arrived home to find out our refrigerator died (GRRRRRR); my daughter informed me she overdrew her bank account FOUR HUNDRED DOLLARS! and can't pay me what she owes me (talk about being so furious but I held myself together-will talk to her today "calmly"). I'm so glad today is a new day AND the weekend to boot!
I did start the weekend off well-lost half a pound! :-)

Remember to take small steps during your recovery and it will make it more attainable when you first come out of surgery. Trying to make things happen to quickly can mean a prolonged period. Good luck with your surgery and may it be over quicker than they think.

Kathy, I hope your surgery goes well and alleviates any problems you are having. I think the key with recovery is not doing too much too soon you feel better and really allowing your body to heal. I found that I would feel great and then hit a wall and just need to rest, and then I would feel great again. Really just take the time you need to recover and don't push it and it will go faster in the long run.

Kathy,

even though you have "added" surgery now, I hope that all goes smoothly & that your recovery period is quicker that the Doc's think. I know when I had mine, that it did take the full 3 weeks before I started to feel "normal" again...Will keep you in thought & prayer..

Go Kathy! Sorry to hear about your surgery, but I pray that the time passes quickly for you. Maybe start thinking now about what you can be doing to fill that time. Organize photos? Type your memoirs? Start writing letters and sending cards to shut-ins? You can still be productive while you're recuperating and I think you'll feel the better for it.

Stretched my usual 3-mile morning run into 4 miles today. Partly penance for eating a McDonald's dinner last night.

Thanks for your support and prayers, everyone! Everyone at work was so understanding when I told them today. We've got all my clients divided up between several therapists to cover if my clients have situations that need attention while I'm out. All the doctors were wonderful, too.

Kathy, Prayers for you for your surgery and a quick recovery. It takes awhile but you'll feel better once everything is fixed and taken care of.
As for me......still haven't lost any of that 4 pounds that I had gained. But then again I just started doing what I should have been doing all along. I was yo-yoing with my weight for quite awhile, then the darn things (pounds)just decided to stay. Yuck....Anyway, I'm determined to lose those and then some more.
Mary, how is it going for you and your husband? Hope everything is well.
For everyone else congrats on the losers and luck to the maintainers.
Have a great day.

Kathy,

That is really terrible news when you weren't expecting the hysterectomy. But you need to get it taken care of because your health is more important than your job right now.

I'm a little depressed/upset right now. I saw my doctor who will be doing my surgery on Jan 29 for prolapsed everything (uterus, bladder, rectum). She said she is doing a hysterectomy! I must have not understood or missed something (since I'm deaf). She explained the other two procedures today as well. I thought I'd be going back to work after 2 MAYBE 3 weeks. WRONG!! I have to stay home for at least 4 weeks, MAYBE 6!!! I am not happy about having to be home this long and use up all my annual leave for this. Not only that, I told all my clients (I'm a mental health therapist) I'd be back after 2-3 weeks and scheduled people for the last week of Feb. I have not worked out tonight although that was my plan. I did control the eating though....Maybe I'll be in a better mood tomorrow and get back into it.

SO far I'm on the low end of my calorie range and have done all my exercises for the day. Did my weights in the AM before going to work. Had planned on doing cardio after work, but after getting to the gym, discovered I'd left my gym card & license at work. SO went back to work to retrieve them and then headed home because I didn't want to go back to the gym, which is in the opposite direction of going home. So did more weight exercises at home instead of cardio. Will be doing cardio at my spin class tomorrow, go I'll get my 3 cardio sessions per week done tomorrow.

I was invited for home made pepperoni pizza for lunch today and was that ever a mistake!! It was all crust, very little sauce and the crust was really doughy. The only thing that was good was the pepperoni was really crunchy. I thought her being full blooded Italian she knew how to make it. Wrong!!
I told her it was good anyway because I didn't want to hurt her feelings. I think I should invite her for my homemade pizza. I put loads of veggies on it and it is very good with a very thin crust.

I had a two egg omelet, acacado and tomato slices and a banana for breakfast. Dinner was grilled steak and peas with onions so maybe the pizza didn't put me over the calorie range.

Over on my calories, but rode the bike for 2 hours to make up for the excess calories. All bootcamp exercises done and trying to get my eating under better control. Trying some new food which have made a difference in my food calculations, so making adjustments to remain within calorie range. Otherwise will be exercising a bit extra for weight loss.

As you may know, I am an active member of the popular healthy-living website, SparkPeople.com. In an effort to help SparkPeople live out their mission of helping millions of people reach their goals and live healthier lives, I have joined a contest they're holding called "The Spark Free Chapter Challenge." If you have one minute to spare, I could use your help,
So here's the deal with the challenge…

Chris Downie, SparkPeople's CEO and founder, recently published a book called "The Spark" that offers a proven new approach to improving your health, transforming your life and reaching your goals (for example, real people have lost over 10 million pounds using their free online program)!

People like me who are helping them "Spread The Spark" through The Spark Free Chapter Challenge are encouraging our friends and family to download a FREE chapter of "The Spark" book. And for every person I can encourage to download the chapter, I will get an additional chance to win a $500 weekend getaway and other prizes, as well as something they offer called "SparkPoints," which also help motivate me to reach my goals.

All you have to do to help is download a free chapter from The Spark book. Nothing else. To do so, simply go to http://book.sparkpeople.com/book.asp?u=LIN
DA25427 and click the button to download your free chapter.

If you would be willing to help me with this, I would truly appreciate it, and I also think you will enjoy reading this free chapter from "The Spark". I know I did!

Thank you for your time. I really appreciate it.

I like fresh pears, too, but off a tree. Buying them in the store is just not the same. They are green and hard and it seems to take forever for them to ripen and then it's a guessing game. Take a bite too soon and they are too hard. Wait a few more days and they are rotten in the middle. Any suggestions, anyone? Canned pears are really good but I pour off the syrup first and sprinkle them with cinnamon.

Tomorrow I'm invited for home made pepperoni pizza at 2 pm. Not my favorite thing but Suzanne wants to make it for three of us--she has four chairs in her apartment. LOL

A big wind storm swept through town last night so I didn't get much sleep. Lights started flickering just behore midnight so I put new batteries in the flashlights and went to bed to read. Power went out at 1:15 and came back on an hour later. I read with a flashlight for a while. I got up and looked out my door and found out we have emergency lights in the hallways. Then I was worrying about the people on oxygen machines here and if they would die. Morbid thoughts. I guess they have battery backup on the oxygen machines.. I went to sleep but woke up when my lamp came back on. Then read some more and finally woke up at 10 this morning. News casters didn't say anything about our power outage and damage, it was all about other cities north of us that had lots of trees down on cars and houses, power outages all over. We don't count here in the valley.

I eat more fruit than veggies most of the time. I thought natural sugar was good for us and doesn't count like processed sugar??

Eating lots of veggies and some fruit is great, but to build muscle, you need protein, so don't neglect this.

I love eating lots of fruit, but it has a lot of natural sugar and I've found that when I eat more veggies than fruit, my weight will go down. When I start to eat more fruit than veggies my weight loss slows down.

I've looked at my food tracker and have noticed that I am consistently low on the protein side, so today bought some organic whey protein to see if this would help.

Hope everyone is having a great Monday.

I'm in the same boat with Geodawg. I've been working out and my numbers are going up. I KNOW THIS STUFF! but bad habits bred over the holidays have caught up with me. Today this ends. Eating more healthful foods is at the top of my list today. I've done my strength workout, and now will drink my second big glass of water for the day and head down to ride the stationary bike for 30 minutes. Later...walking to celebrate MLK day and no school!

Goedawg, it is an eye opener when we realize the "little bit" of cheating adds up, huh?! :-/ Hang in there-you'll get your groove back! At least you have not gained weight, I gather, right?

Brenda, like you, I've really focused on eating more fruits and veggies. I've discovered I love fresh pears!! I also love blueberries. I never really ate either one of them before. I eat lots of veggies daily. Last night, I microwaved a bag of Green Giant Immunity Blend vegetables which consists of: red and yellow bell peppers, carrots and broccoli. It may have others in it as well, but I can't recall right now what. Very yummy! I had vegetable soup with chicken in it for lunch.

Keep up the good work with healthy eating and exercising, everyone!

Good Evening!!

I've been watching the Golden Globe awards for 2 1/2 hours now. I didn't remember it was on until I switched the channel to watch the 5:00 news and there wasn't any. Lot's of glitz and very thin actresses. Some of them don't look very healthy.

I'm working on eating an apple everyday--it's hard to remember to do it. Banana every morning, apple and an orange at other times. For dinner last night I had a big bowl of steamed cauliflower and broccoli with a little bit of olive oil. Trying to eat a variety of foods with more fruits and vegetables and very little meat and walking the halls and stairs in the building twice a day. It takes about a half hour to walk all three floors. Losing a few pounds is very hard but I will keep at it.

Eating is a bit of a problem for me as well. Love dried fruit and nut trail mixtures. Overindulged today, but balanced it off with a 2 hour spin class and a one hour spin class this morning. So far, according to the daily calorie differential report, I'm still ahead ( still in the negative).

I've also done the Sunday bootcamp videos and am making a very large batch of basic spaghetti sauce to make several easy meals this week.

Geodawg - Are you doing weight training and if so, have you tried increasing the amount lifted recently? If you've been lifting the same amount for a long time it might be the right time to add a little more. You might see results if you do.

Good luck on your workouts.

I still have not lost even one pound----since October. Yes I have exercised. yes I have tracked my food intake. Yes I have cheated! A revealing moment when I realized that I had cheated more than I realized. Still going to keep on trying though. I am going to gain perspective on my eating and I will loose those 10-15 pounds. One of these days I will.

Hi all, just remember if you do gain a few pounds back, or more, Spark is here. With Sparks help, I lost 40 pounds a year and a half ago. Then gradually gained back thirteen. So now I am back doing what I did to lose the original 40. When I had gained back 8, I just couldn't get back on track. But when my clothes started getting really tight, I was motivated. I am so happy just to know how to live better and to be healthier. I will lose what I gained as long as I don't give up or beat myself up for being human. Then I will try not to put so much back on. Patience is the key for me.

Went to the NBC Health Fair in D.C. and had a great time. Mentioned SparkPeople.com to everyone I talked to while waiting in line for the various activities and giveaways. Exercised this morning, had breakfast and went out the door with hubby. We were there from about 10:30AM to 3:00PM, so lunch was made up of the free samples. But that wasn't enough for hubby. He was hungry by the time we left, but he didn't complain. We went to the grocery store before going home, so dinner was about 5:30PM. A little earlier than normal, so had some yogurt with blueberries for a snack this evening.

Calories were well within range, so the sampling did no damage.

Hope Saturday went well for everyone.

Well, I finally made myself get on the treadmill. Did 30 walking fast and another 20 running.

I'll be watching my weight so that I do not have that much to loose. Right now it seems that I am yoyoing back in forth.

Patty, congratulations on reaching your goal weight! Don't become complacent like I did. I reached my goal weight, but the weight slowly crept on again. I'm 6 pounds over what I was before. Last week, I lost 4 pounds, but today my weight shows I gained 2.5 of that back-argh. I hope I can lose some of the weight before Jan 29, which is when I have major surgery. I KNOW I'll gain weight during my recovery so want to get down as low as possible before then.

I have to try to encourage my granddaughter to work with me on losing the unneeded weight. Her weight has reached a critical point. I am trying to teach her how to eat healthier. Not easy for a teenager, when her parents don't see the need to really take the junk food out of the house. I remember those teen years and it was hard for me. I felt all alone with my problem. The chocolate craving just before the cycle. My heart goes out to her. I am 68 and have congestive heart failure, so I can't walk or exercise at the pace she can and needs to. I will keep trying. This is where the emotional eating wants to start, but it won't solve our situation. Any suggestions....

No gain, but still no further loss, but I can get into my skinny jeans!! So something must be happening. Maybe the scale will go down next week.

JOAN,

I hope you are on the road to health. I've been sick too and I hate to be sick. It lasted a lttle over a week, nothing serious. I know what you mean about living alone and mindlessly eating. Salty stuff is my downfall, and ice cream for lunch dessert everyday. Today I didn't eat any so that is a good thing.

Hi everyone, I got lost in the network and couldn't find my way back to you. I am trying for 1 more pound this week. Had the bad virus, sick several weeks, just feeling better. Now my appetite wants to come back. So I have to get tough with myself. Eat only the healthy items. I love junk food so it has been booted out of the house. When you live alone, it is easy to eat when you are bored. I try to keep busy with interesting things. Yet I find myself dealing with the late evening moments when the phone has gotten quiet, I am tired, and don't know quite what I want to do with myself. I guess I will come to you more often. Thanks for listening.
