Hi all new members...
Oh my gosh! I was going through my endless supply of exercise DVDs and blew the dust off of one my daughter gave me a few years ago. I did the McDonald's 15 Cardio workout and it kicked my butt. They use a virtual trainer (now I know why they probably couldn't pay anyone enough to do all that)
Anyway....just wanted to let you know if you need a quick cardio workout this one kicks butt.

I think I will try it again tomorrow emoticon

Welcome new members, and congratulations Penny! I am from Ohio. Go Buckeyes! I live in between Dayton and Cincinnati. I live in a very small town where I have been most of my life. I feel so embarrassed because I always see people I have known for 20+ years and I weight more than 2x what I did in high school. But, with SparkPeople like you all with me I am confidant that I can lose the weight and live healthier! I am so thankful for you all!

I am also from New York..Upstate about an hour north of Albany, in Glens Falls. It is very cold and snowy right now. It stays dark late and gets dark early. Not exactly motivating weather.

Hello Cindy and welcome to our daily chit chat. We are a growing group of people who just want to "get together" on a daily/semi-daily basis to get to know one another better. We talk about anything and everything here, so feel welcome to join the conversation. You said you are from Alabama, right? There are a couple of people, including myself, from N.Y., we have people from Ohio, Michigan, and probably a few other states that I don't know about yet! :-)

Looking forward to getting to know you. We are all here to support and help one another. Good luck this week with your weight loss and fitness plan.

Welcome Cindy! You can do it! Just plan, as has been said, on leaving buckets of sweat at the gym. That's the trick!

I sure did today - trainer just about killed me, LOL! But the nice thing is I powered through it and felt strong. No nausea or dizziness... ok, well a little dizziness but it went away so that's good. Didn't spiral out of control, LOL.

For details of what I do, you can check out the blog on my page. If you're interested at all. LOL If not... well, then you'd probably be bored, so don't. LOL

Ok... time for me to stop typing now.....

I did catch part of the Oprah show and TiVo-ed the rest. I am afraid to watch it. From what it showed, it is me through and through. I need to do some major housekeeping, not just at home, but in all areas of my life.

Hello Treadin4BSP!

I know right where Gloversville is because I grew up in Latham. You'd know where that is. I was born in Albany, lived in Latham until I was 32 yrs old and then moved to Ithaca. My husband is also from the Albany area, and we both still have family there. It IS a small world. It's neat to "connect" with people on this site, isn't it? Next time you are in Ithaca, we should meet for coffee or something!

Greetings fellow "sparkies". Hey Katie100, I am from upstate NY as well. I live in Gloversville, closer to Albany. I also work for Cornell Cooperative Extension and find myself in Ithaca several times a year. And, on top of that, I grew up in Norwich! Small world!!! You asked about sizes, try CJ Banks in Pyramid Mall. They often have a sale rack in the back with prices that compete with thrift stores. I find their 14's are a little bigger than Walmarts. Have great day, all!

I always had problems with the sleeves. The arms wore always around below my bra line and I always felt exposed because of the shirts showing my bra. Now that I am in smaller sizes I don't have that problem. Guess the manufacture thinks if you are heavy then your arms are huge and you need to have real big wholes for your arms to go in. Go thing I sew and could make them smaller and not show anything.

Hi everyone!
Did anyone catch the Oprah show last week about clutter relating to being fat? It was a pretty good show and motivated me to rid my kitchen of all "yesterday" foods (foods ate yesterday but not today; like chips, etc) and took two boxes of items I hadn't been really using to the local consignment shop! Fun.
Hope everyone had a good weekend!

Hi AspenJules,

Haha! I think our husbands must be related. He also would prefer that I stay home... although he tells me that if I really want to work, to go ahead. Like you, I am concentrating on getting fit and healthy and losing weight. I go to the gym every other day, do an hour of cardio (at least) and then 40-45 minutes of Nautilus. I have been doing this since the first of the year. It's tiring, but I have to admit that I've seen results. I am more toned, and I have lost almost 17 lbs. so far. I am so happy that I found all of you "SparkPeople." It makes this whole process so much easier and enjoyable. I feel like I have friends all over the country!

emoticon

Keep well everyone and I'll check in later on tonight or tomorrow. Hubby is due home from a long day at work and I'm making him a well-deserved yummy dinner.

Joy - YES! Oh my! I have felt like a child with all these sweaters and long sleeve shirts where the sleeves come to or past my fingertips. But I have definitely noticed that my shoulders and upper arms are smaller so that makes sense I guess.

Katie - sounds like you and I are in the same position. I am also a newly emptied nester, and not working. Money is tight (I have 2 kids in college - 21 yr old daughter and 18 year old son) so I suggested I go back to work after lo! these many years, but my dear hubby wanted me to continue to focus on my weight loss and getting healthier. I am working with a trainer twice a week, and he's got me in a pretty intense program where 3-4 times a week I do homework (strength training exercises like lunges, pushups, dips and ab crunches) on my own, plus cardio 5-6 times a week. So for now, that is my job.

I totally agree that I don't know how those who are working full time and have kids at home manage to do the exercising as well. It takes all my concentration!

EERH the sizes! I am finding that even within a brand there are differences in the sizes!

I am one of those people who hates trying on clothes, in the past I bought a few items and could not wear them because they were too small.

Anyone else noticed that as they lost weight the arms on the shirts and sweaters seem to get longer? I put on a polar fleece this morning and the arms are way too long, go figure... it fit fine before Christmas. Critically I think my shoulders might be smaller.

Neraus,

I've had the same problem sometimes with all types of clothes. I have an 18 dress now that is too big.... a similar dress in the 16 is still too tight. I think it all depends on the manufacturer and also the country that the clothing made in. I think you should just keep looking and trying them on. Look for "relaxed fit" jeans... sometimes that helps.

I am shopping mainly in thrift stores because I don't want to pay full retail for a pair of pants that will be too big(I hope)in a couple of months. I may break down and try buying a new pair because size 14 must be a popular size because it is hard to find in the second hand stores.

Neraus, where are you shopping ? Have you been to Lane Bryant or Avenue ? Sometimes different stores have different fits. Even within the store there are different fits. You need to ask the people that work there, sometimes they can help. I have trouble finding jeans that I like. Good luck with finding the right jeans. Suzy

Can someone please clear up this mystery for me. I have lost 24 pounds and all of my size 16 jeans are too big. Like fall off too big. However I can not find a pair of 14 jeans that fit at all. They are all too small around the waist and a lot of them are too tight around the hips. Is there a bigger gap between 14's and 16's than there is between 16's and 18's. I hate how my pants fit because they are all baggy and loose and I am always tugging them up. But I have been trying for almost a month to find a pair of 14's and am just not having any luck. Does anyone have any suggestions?

We are having the same snow storm here. Blowing wind, freezing cold, snow, snow, snow. Yuk! The older I get, the less I like it.

I have two sons. One is 22, a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army. He lives in Georgia near Ft. Benning where he is currently in training. We are going down to his graduation from I.O.B.C. on 2/19.

My younger son is 19, and he goes to college in Rochester, New York (R.I.T.) He is studying Hotel and Resort Management and plans to run a boutique hotel someday.

My husband is a retired Chief of Police, and is currently working 7 days a week. He is Director of Surveillence of Tioga Race Track and Casino, and he is also the Criminal Justice Program Chair at a semi-local college where he teaches Criminal Justice courses.

Me - what can I say? I guess I run the household and keep everyone on track and organized. I also belong to a couple of organizations and do some volunteer work in our city. I have thought about the idea of going back to work (I used to work a million years ago), but since I have my hand in so many other things, that thought has been put on hold for a while. We'll see. I'm still trying to get used to being an empty-nester. My younger son just started college last Fall.

How 'bout you other ladies? Anything you'd like to share?

I love New York...city that is...of course it is just to visit.

My daughter lives in Temperance (so it's close to me) I told her when she got married she couldn't move too far away. My sister-in-law lives in Cadillac..talk about snow.

We are in the mist of a snow/wind storm today. I am glad I don't have to go out much.

I live in Central NY (Ithaca). Ithaca is at the southern-most tip of Cayuga Lake - one of New York's Finger Lakes. I was born and raised in a suburb of Albany, New York. I moved to Central New York 10 years ago.

It's really beautiful country, but boy, oh boy, in the winter it is frigid!

You hit it right on, I do live in Toledo. How did you guess? LOL...guess my name gave me away. As for the ants, they were sugar ants...haha went right for the sugar that's how my son spotted them. Guess they too wanted to get out of the cold and wind.

TXSLIONESS where in Michigan do you live? My daughter and sister-in-law both live there as well. But OHIO STATE RULES!!!!

Hi Momintoledo!

Glad you could join us....

Seems none of us are really having a leisurely Sunday off. I am up to my ears in the annual financial aid forms that the government requires when you have a child in college. You know, FAFSA, NYS TAP, etc. Ugh!

The joys of having children in college, right?

P.S. I will visit your SparkPages soon, but in the meantime, where do you two live?

Momintoledo, depending on what type of ants they were, you may want to call a pest control company PRONTO. Black ants will eat your house, sugar ant or slab ants are a nuisance and get into everything. There are a couple of other ant types, I would have to call my mother (who does pest control for a living) to find out more. Darn things nest in the walls and are a huge pain to get rid of.

Hey Everybody,

Suzy makes a good point.... this should be a "Sticky Topic," but I don't know how to do that. Can anybody help with that?

Suzy, thanks for responding!! Sorry to hear about your sprained ankle, but as you pointed out, at least you are home because of it! haha! I am an empty-nester and I don't work outside of the home. I manage to find lots to do though. And boy, I KNOW I'm lucky!! I feel badly for all of you (and my husband) who have to fit in exercise, healthy eating habits, and everything else along with keeping up with your job obligations. You are all Number One in my book.

I'll check in later to see if anyone knows about the "Sticky Topic."

This sounds like a good idea, I saw something like it on another team and it seemed like the active members were true friends talking about family and daily life. I felt like they really knew each other and cared about one another. They talk about clothes and their jobs, etc.

I can start this one.... This morning I battled an army (of ants that is) but it forced me to clean out the spice cabinet.

Hope everyone has a great day.

Hey Katie, I have one on one of my other teams called fresh brewed coffee. I like the idea, be sure to make it a "sticky" topic (I have no idea how) so that we can all find it easily. I generally work on Sundays so this is an unexpected treat for me to be home today...of course, it's because I have a lovely sprained ankle, but who's complaining about that....well, me...but not too much.

Hi Everybody,

I belong to another team that has this Topic "Daily Chit Chat." It's a topic that we all seem to like. It's a place that anyone on the team can go to each day (or anytime they feel like) and just check in with each other, say hi, talk about the weather, discuss issues, weight loss topics, jobs, or our kids. It's a nice way to get to know the active members on the team better and you don't have to stay on one topic. The "Daily Chit Chat" post can be used everyday by anybody!

So..... I thought I'd pass this along and see if anyone is interested in posting. We'll see!

Have a great day everyone and I hope to hear from lots of you! Happy Sunday!

Katie
