Hi Serena and good luck!

I'm 41 and need to lose about 40 pounds. I hope I'll reach my goal in 7-8 months. I gained the weight fast due to side effects of some medication and I want to get rid or the extra pounds. I just registered here today and I hope I'll be able to stick with my plan.

Hello Everyone,
I had started last year at 280 lbs and had been exercising and had started on the Mediterranean diet and was doing good had lost 20 lbs the it happened when going in for an MRI 9/1/2010 they found my spinal cord pinched and bruised and I had to have neck surgery..gaining the weight back that I had lost since unable to exercise.. so I have been re-cooping from that and have just started back on the highway to loosing weight.. Using the same diet and a little exercise I have gotten down to 244 as of last Thursday.. emoticon My actual goal weight is 144.. wish me luck

Hi Everyone! I'm Becca - 41 with at least 30 pounds to lose. I am the new mother of a sweet 4 month old boy and also have a 17 and 14 year old sons. I barely gained any weight during my pregnancy and lost what I did gain within 2 weeks - but alas, I have been slowing packing on additional weight because I'm a stay at home mom in a new routine. I have a hard time getting in workouts and when I can I'm so tired or have so much to do that I don't have the energy.

I'm looking for buddies who can motivate me and most of all keep me accountable as well as make me quit using silly excuses.

Looking forward to hearing from all of you!!!! Here we go!

Hello Norma-30, and everyone else! What we are doing is a lot! It's called change, and that is the hardest part. Set long goals my friend and just take joy in the doing. The rest will take care of itself!

Hi Mandy. I am new to this as well and would welcome you as a buddy. My goal is to lose about 30 lbs. I like fruits, but not so many veggies so I know how you feel. It is a challenge for me especially when you should not eat more fruits than veggies. Three of us girls at work took a nutrition class and did very well (as long as we stuck together) but now I have gained back what I lost and am ready to go at it again.

Hi all, I am 45yrs young, with no children. I am trying to shed about 28.5 lbs. maybe a little less. I wouldn't say that I am a snacker, but just someone that is kind of picky when it comes to fruit and veggies. I would love to become friends/buddies with anyone that wants to share the ups and downs with me. I started on Friday/Saturday and realized the first day that I was actually eating more than I thought and it was mostly carbs. Not really any veggies and no fruit at all. Yikes! Wishing everyone the best of luck reaching your goals!!! :O)

Hi, my name is Phyllis and I have been on Spark for almost two weeks now. I am 48 and facing empty nest syndrome since my youngest (20) has moved out on his own, but it won't be too empty since my 3 grandchildren come by often. I am looking to lose 25-30 lbs and get more fit so my hubby (25yrs) can get jealous from the stares I get! I love this site and all the motivating people I read about. Good luck to everyone on your journeys!

Hi I'm Jan,49 and joined a few days ago. I want to loose about 40lb.My physical activity has reduced greatly in the last 12 months due to back problems and personal losses..so the 30lb I had lost with Slimming world has almost all gone back on. SW is expensive and not too sure its really achievable for life so wanted to go back to more traditional nutrition keeping and I stumbled across this site and thought WOW that looks more like me. I am aiming to do 15 mins core work a day with strength with dumbells and ball and bands..I walk as much and use by bike as much as possible. So heres to a lighter future :)

I am a 42 yr. old Mom, divorced but in a new relationship, with three kids 21, 20, and 16. I want to loose 38lbs while controlling type 2 diabetes better. 5 years ago, I lost over 40lbs and managed to keep it off so now I'm going for the next half and hoping for the same results. With the kids moving on with their lives, it's time for Mom to start her new journey and it's beginning here. One moment, one day, one pound at a time emoticon

It's been such an interesting ride to explore this site and see all that is possible. I love learning and they give you so many ways to do that, Quiz, Poll, slide show, trivia questions, articles, the list is endless. I am amazed they have squeezed so much into this site to make it interesting all the time. The blogs, teams, success stores, boards... the list goes on. I can't seem to stop exploring. I am so thankful for this site. It really has made an impact on my life in the short time I have been connected. I just started stage 2, meaning I have finished my first two weeks and I am still finding out new things about this site. Well done sparkpeople.

It's possible!

Hello... I am 49 years young with 25 pounds to go! I have already lost 35 lbs through diet & excercise. I am so stuck where I am now for about 3-4 months. I will be running my first marathon this September 2 days after my 50th birthday! I have never felt stronger in my life. Now the challenge is to get this last 25 off! I am hoping Spark will help me break through this holding pattern!

I am a 49 yo with a 15 yo boy who is in the " make my mom crazy" years. I need to lose 30 to 40 lbs. Being Perimenapausal also during this journey is extremely challenging. I signed up a couple weeks ago and really did not do much. Now I am ready to plunge in and give this a go so maybe i can like the way i look and feel by the Holidays....

Good for you! Yes, my daughter started acting up when she was 12 and it is now just starting to subside (will be 23). I wish you luck. I was just talking to a friend about this and was telling her the worst thing I did as a parent was protect my daughter from the consequences of her actions. It is so hard being a parent and knowing what the right thing to do is. I think that had a lot to do with my weight gain, the stress of it all...

I have a 17 year old daughter (just turned) ...wow are they tough or what?! Stress causes me to hang onto every last piece of cake that I've eaten since I was 30! I hope to remain on a steady depression-and-stress-free life style (thanks to welbutrin and zoloft). My daughter has been living with her father( where the grass appears to be greener) recently. After the hurt subsided, I found that I like the calm stillness that she has left behind. I can now think about myself. What I like. What I'm about. I'm only 42 but I feel 32 and act like I'm still in High School for heavens sake! Got a lot of living to do...and memories to make! I want to feel good in my skin...and my clothes. Let's do this Spark People! We're on our way

Hi there...I could have been writing this myself! I just turned 40 and need to lose 45 pounds. I have two boys who are 3 and 4 and I need to get my butt in gear to be a better overall healthy person for me AND them. I just reconnected with Spark People to help me make my goals happen. It's great to get on here and find that I am not the only one feeling like I need to make a change now. Thanks for your post!

I know how you feel. I have a similar situation. The nutrition tracker has been a real God send. I input my meals and check my numbers so I know how many calories I have available for the entire day. It counts down for you. The tracker has been holding me accountable whether I like it or not!

What has helped me when I get home is 1st walk the dog even if it's only for 10 min and then I go on the computer and check out spark. Sometimes all it takes to keep me on the straight and narrow is reading a few articles or how someone else has been good for the day. Best of luck to you. I have been on here since the end of March, I love it and can't believe all you get and it's free. I'm down 17lbs. Can't believe it and it's all from the help and motivation I get from this sight. Keeping track of what goes into my mouth has been the best.

Congratulations on the birth and caring of your 3 kids. No small feat. I have 2 girls and I am heavier now in my 5'2", 40 year old body, then I ever have been. But I managed to loose 4lbs in the last 2 weeks with SP so I am praying for continued success and lots of motivation. I hope the same for you.

Hi everyone. I'm new here. Just turned 40 and have about 30 pounds to lose. I am overwhelmed, under-motivated and this is truly a last result for me. Did you ever see the commercial about making a good breakfast choice helps you make good choices all day? I eat great all day....and come home from work and feel so good I think "Oh, I can have a snack" And then I want to cry. I need accountability. I need someone to be watching me and say "hey...good choice or bad choice?" and make me think twice. I'm hoping this place will be just that. Your stories are inspirational and I hope to move forward in a positive and productive way...cause right now I feel like I'm in a losing battle.

Hi everyone, today is my first day and I am very motivated! I am 49 years old and I believe that I live a healthy lifestyle. I go to the gym 3 times per week and take a Zumba class, a multi-impact aerobics class, strength train and ride a stationary bike. Then why can't I lose weight? I think I just love food, and it really is possible to eat too much of anything. I'm so happy I found this site and look forward to participating.

Hi, I too feel that God has led me and directed me in my life as I have given my all to Him. Now I just have to give Him my desire for food :^) Self- discipline is great in most areas of my life except food. I use food as a reward for all my hard work. I need to realize that that is not how it should or needs to be. I also really need to be more phyically active that is why I'm trying to do a minimum of 10 minutes a day exercising and walking 2 km 3 or 4 times a week. I know it's not much, but its a start and that should count too :^)
Have a great day,
Norma

I am new as of today! I am 47 and married over 18 years. I became a couch potato and ate more after I got married and gained over 50 lbs over the last 18 years as a result. I have been exercising and trying to watch what I eat over the last few years. I have lost 11 lbs so far, but need to bump it up as I am "stuck." My husband doesn't help as he does the majority of the grocery shopping and buys a lot of junk food. I also have a 14 year old son who literally can eat 15 hot dogs in one sitting and not gain an ounce. I try to walk almost every day. I got a new bicycle last week and I am looking forward to getting back on it as well!

I just joined last night after reading a bit of the book. I saw this post and immediately connected! I have been teaching for 18 years in TX and recently lost my job. I have always been a stress-eater and I am certain that God has led me to this site! I am looking forward to a new career and a new body. I am hoping to find the encouragement I need to succeed after 30 years of dieting and 18 years of a thankless career. Looking for direction and purpose!

Your story sounds the same as mine. Even the kids ages. I have found this site very helpful, if you use the trackers. I have been a member for less than a month and have lost a total of 5 pounds. I am trying to slim down for our oldest child's wedding and to be healthy. Good Luck with the Spark!!!!!!!!!!!

Hi all, new here and liking this site so far! I hope the trackers will keep me accountable for all I put in my mouth!
47 year old mom of 3 kids 22,20,17. Going to my oldest's college graduation tomorrow and will still be hiding in the back of pictures cuz I hate how I look. Hopefully by next year this time when my youngest graduates from HS I will not be shoving someone in front of me in the pictures! LOL Anyway glad to find all you others in the same age range and with the same goals. Just started wed night so looking for some weight loss buddies. Friend me if you are new and looking for encouragement also.

I can totally relate. I visited this site over a year ago and even forgot about it until today. Still have the same amount to lose that I did last year. I am 47 also and really hoping that this helps. I have worked out for a couple of years but always ate bad. Now that I am eating better I haven't been working out. Hopefully I can start doing both and get this weight off!

I am so ready to change my life and I HAVE! God's timing is perfect and I am being led to where I need to be in all areas of my life! It is great! I am a teacher and my job ended with the school year. I should be depressed, but I am NOT! I will be moving to a big city in July (my apt will be ready then) and until that time, I am getting my life in order, purging many things that I have hung on to for silly reasons, discerning what is REALLY important to me and only keeping those things, and getting rid of the weight that I have put on over the past 3 years! I am ready to start the next chapter in my life and looking forward to where it leads me!

I have found SP to be very helpful, especially the nutrition and fitness trackers. It can be time consuming at first, but once you get the hang of it they are great motivators.

Thank GOD I have found Spark People and all of you 40 somethings lol. I am at 165 and heavier than this 5'2" lady has ever been...even when pregnant with either of the 3 kids. It is so easy for the pounds to sneak on when I am going through McDonalds drive thru each morning for a sausage McMake Me Fat..and a large sweet tea. WOW. Why is it so easy to put on but so hard to take off? Here is where I hold my self accountable and where I will meet wonderful people with my same goals!

I have to do something to hold myself accountable! I realized that I do not have the will power to diet on my own anymore. I have lost and gained the same 10 lbs. 10 times. Like every other mom I am stressed, tired and overwhelmed. Got on the scales yesterday after picnics and my daughters birthday parties and have hit my all time high! 170 lbs. I am really enjoying this site. I thought I had a pretty good idea how many calories I was consuming but as I log what I eat I am suprised at that lack of nutrients I was actually consuming as well as the calorie amounts. It is quite motivating to log my exercise and to keep checking how many points I am collecting. I know if I keep with this I will attain my goals!

I cannot believe I actually got the point that I have use online to help me loose weight. But it really helps to make myself responsible. Signing in daily, or even more than once a day, is easy. Once I log in the food I eat, I have that feeling that "next time" I am going to be proud of my posting. Guess what, that actually works with me. Amazing that I cannot lie to myself. I like that accountability.

Found this site some 6 months ago and never came back. I have heard so much about it and wasn't succeeding on my own, so, here I am. Had breast cancer 10 yrs ago and put weight on from the medicine. And of course the kids did it!! So that is my excuse. I want to be stronger and healthier than I was before. I am 47 and want to feel better than I do. I like the one step at a time. My oldest just graduated so I think that now she is off to college I can concentrate on me...I like what I see so far. I am going to say this is day 1. Look out!!!!

It's comforting to see new members like me with the same hopes and goals. It's only day 2 and I'm trying hard not to think further ahead than goals for the first two weeks!

My question is - what are you doing for journaling? I'm not good at writing consistently - I like to buy the pretty journals and then they get dusty...is journaling helpful or is blogging better?

Hope everyone has a good week!!!
