Thanks for the encouragement. I am determined this time to stick to the plan no matter what obstacles come my way. It is hard at the hospital though, when you are there for 8 hours and they have all these snacks out for the patients and their caregivers. I've decided to bring my own lunch and snacks this time around so I'm not tempted to take the cookies, candy, etc.

CRABTREE235--You've had the double whammie. You can do this, though. You need to take care of yourself before you can take care of others! That's why they say on planes to put your oxygen mask on first!

Hang in there! We're rooting for you!

Thanks SCD. It sounds like many of us are in the same boat and it helps to know we are not alone. I would love to remove all the temptations from home but my husband and son love their snacks and they can control themselves. I've been back to walking, but the weight training needs to wait until my back spasms resolve. We have to keep reminding ourselves of our favorite mantras: "you gotta want it" is one of my favorites. Another is "nothing tastes as good as thin feels." Does anyone have others to share?

This is my second time starting this program. I was good for a month then "life" got the best of me and I just stopped trying. I just went to the doctor yesterday and was told to loose weight( 30 pounds). I went up 30 pounds since I had a hysterectomy last year. I now am having some more health issues with high blood pressure and problems sleeping. I just want to feel better and if loosing weight can do that then I'm gonna try again.

One of my biggest obstacles is that my boyfriend has cancer and it has been very stressful for me. Also he is so skinny and can eat anythng he wants! This is a big problem for me since he is a huge snack eatter and late at night too and I want to eat along with him. emoticon

One of my other goals was to stop biting my nails. I have been pretty successful at it. Everytime I look at my nails I am proud of myself and my accomplishment. This last weekend my husband and I went away and I blew my diet, but I could still check off some of my other goals and it didn't make me feel like a total "loser". It encouraged me to keep going.

My main goal is to be healthy so I can keep up with my teenage sons. Of course, I will be healthier if I manage to loose these extra 25 pounds! ;) I know how important exercise and a healthy diet are, I just don't have time to spend on it. I think SP will make keeping up with what I eat easier.

Snoopy- I have been reading a lot of books trying to decide the best way to finally lose and keep off this 25 lbs! The one thing I think that makes a lot of sense for us bingey type eaters ;) is to have one designated "free meal". You plan one meal a week that you can have ANYTHING you want. I plan to have one of those meals in my plan so that I can hopefully not fall back into the binge mode-
Another one I like is if you do binge, go for a walk that evening and before you go to bed, write out a healthy eating plan for the next day and stick it to the fridge.
They all sd that you have to make sure you're eating healthy fats, complex carbs and a decent amount of protein so your body won't think it is under stress...
so I am going to use all of theses strategies. :)

Thank you! I got up early today and walked on my treadmill 25 minutes before I got ready for work. This is my 2nd day to do this before work. This is HUGE for me because I am NOT a morning person! If I don't do it in the mornings though, I probably won't get it worked in after I get home. By the time I get home from work I am tired, hungry and energy level is depleted. I weighed today and I am down 4 pounds already!! That gave me a huge boost to motivate me to get up tomorrow! Good luck to all of you and I love reading posts. It sure helps to know I am not the only woman in the world in my 40's and feeling the way I do.

Starting again. I'm hoping to stay on track this week. I usually start out great, then after 2 weeks start binge eating. Once that starts, it's all over until I start again in another 2 weeks. I just can't seem to find the lasting motivator I need. Any suggestions???????
I would love to drop 2lbs per week and be at goal for the holidays. Good luck to all!

I also am a newbie to this site, I found the book on my Kindle and couldn't resist checking out the website. I am pleasantly surprised by what I have found here and can't believe I never heard about it before. I will be 47 in November and about 5 years ago I lost 45 lbs. I have managed to keep 30 of it off and want to lose another 30-40....but it keeps creeping back on. I know have the dreaded "muffin top" that I would really, really like to get rid of! Initial goals are to track daily and commit to exercising. After I make those lifestyle changes, I will add more. Thanks for all the support this site offers and GOOD LUCK to all of us :)

Congratulations on your exercise! It sounds like you have been dealing with a lot and it's great that you have started. I usually start really strong and fizzle out but this time my attitude seems a little different. I am 48 and tired of not feeling my best. I have been at this about a month and the exercise and diet are going well, but the scale is so SLOW! I have just had to tell myself to keep it up and there's no where to go but down...weight, that is!

Monique- thank you so much for replying to my post. I just started this and have already had an emotional day today. I exercised today and made it through 25 minutes, but I am having to start slow. I am a little overwhelmed by trying to plan my food and keep track of everything. It made by day to hear from you. I wish you luck also! If you want a diet buddy I would love to have one!

Wow... our stories are so similar.. I am new member as of yesterday (6/4/11). I too need to lose about the same amount of weight... I too will shortly be 47.. this July and I too am trying to get over some health setbacks as well as manage others... I had a hip replacement 6 years ago ..finally found doctor who would perform it on someone in early 40's.. I had lived for years with pain and that limited my ability to exercise so the vicous circle began, no exercise meant adding pounds each year. I was 130 pounds through my mid 30's and at my highest right before hip replacement I reached close to 185... I am now about 166 and want to try to get at least down to 142 so thats just about 25 pounds..
I wish you lots and lots of success on this program and will pray that both of us reach our goals...

Happy Sunday
Monique

Hello everyone! I am new to this website and just started a diet plan on June 2nd. Low carb and high protein. I need to loose 33 pounds to get to my goal weight of 144. I would love to get down to 130, but I am going to start with a goal of 144 for now. I will be 47 in December and do not want to keep adding pounds every year and just get bigger. I need to loose weight and tone up. I know I will never be as slim and in shape as I was in my 20's but I want to be the best I can be and have a healthy lifestyle. I have had some serious dental problems for the last 9 years or so and never felt good due to this problem. I had dental surgery and am managing my periodontal disease and am feeling much better.I was also severly anemic and I had a hysterectoy last July due to that. Between the dental problems which caused infections in my mouth all the time and heavy periods I have not felt like exercising in a long time. It was all I could do to go to work. It has almost been a year now and my blood count is finally starting to rebuild and I feel better from that now too. I am ready to make some changes for the better. My goal is to stay within my 1200 a day calorie range, keep the carbs down and exercise for 30 minutes daily to reach my weight goal.

Hi Everyone...

Just woke up today and want to finally make set a goal to move on with my life, start anew and most importantly get my self healthy in all ways. I know that this is not something to feel guilty about, taking this time to do this, though in the past, I never put myself first.

So, a little about me...well, I am a soon to be 47 year old woman from Pgh area... almost four years ago, I felt like I had been hit by a truck when now ex blurted out right after dinner, "I don't want to be married anymore" I had not seen that coming and it has been a hard long journey trying to understand why someone could play God with my life and change it forever. I fell into deep depression, did all the wrong things like trying to meet men too soon, I have lost much sleep and worst of all, I gained a few pounds which to someone who has always had a poor self esteem, just put me in a catch 22, where the more I got out of shape, the more I craved attention from people who could hopefully tell me that I was not bad looking.

Well, although I have addressed some of my problems and I am no longer depressed and now have a very good man in my life who I will marry at the end of this month (guess God was looking out for me afterall and perhaps this life change was part of the plan), I want to make some final steps and work on my poor sleep habits, and make some lasting changes to get more healthy and stay that way.

I have set a high goal of trying to lose a good 20 pounds, but more importantly, I would rather be a little heavier in exchange for being healthier, physically fit, eating better, and getting more regular sleep.

I have been being treated for a thyroid problem for the past 6 years (hypothyroidism) and I am not using that as an excuse, but I have truly found my metabolism to have changed even though I take regular medication (likely combination of age and disease). So another goal I have is to get my metabolism to work for me. I am sure that there must be ways to jump start it early morning and then perhaps there are ways to keep it up throughout the day.

One final goal is to try to start to limit my coffee intake (i am embarrased to say I sometimes drink 5-6 cups a day) and instead really work to drink more water.

Well, thats it... I want to start today, June 4th and hope to see some changes by the start of November!

I'm 44, have a young son of 3, have been overweight my whole life until I had a bypass. I am still out of shape and have about 50 or so lbs left to lose. I am changing that and getting on track again, as I had stopped everything. I wanna lose these last 50+ and become a regular exerciser (and like it! lol). I am currently doing 10 minute Trainer and shakeology to help me in doing this! Hope to give some support to all of you as well as receive from here as well! :)

When I turned 40 I was in the best shape of my life. Then several life changing events hit me at the same time and I kind of lost my way. I just found sparkpeople a week ago. I have another significant birthday coming at the end of the summer and I want to get back into living like I did the first 40 years of my life with exercise and monitoring what I eat. I am looking forward to the support that this team can give me and I hope that I can give some as well.

I am looking to get myself back in shape and that means losing a bunch of weight. I have gone back and forth losing up to 100 lbs and putting most of it back on. I have done this pretty much on my own, but for some reason I haven't been able to get it back on track this time. I am thinking that the support of people going through similar things will be the "missing factor".

Goals for this week are to not eat more just because I exercise more....drink 8 glasses of water...and not look at fat pics of me on facebook that someone just posted. I felt pretty that day and I'm the fat girl. Again. Argh. Wish I could take them off FB. Trying to not let them get me down. emoticon

I am 43 with high blood pressure, high cholesterol, and lots of issues with emotional eating. I weigh 173 pounds and want to get to 147. I am doing some running and a triathlon this summer, but after a very active summer in 2010, I just parked myself on the sofa and ate over the winter....Looking forward to being back in the game!

I am 43 with a 4 week old baby. I turn 44 this June 8th! I weigh 164 pounds and am looking to get down to at least 135, possilby 120 pounds by the end of the summer. I live in Colorado, and finally the weather outside has been nice! I hope to train for a marathon with a vegan diet. I am 5 foot 5 inches. I feel incredibly heavey and very out of shape. I'm supposed to wait another 2 weeks to run, but I ran today. No bleeding, no pain, just extra tired because I also rode a bike 60 minutes and ran/walked/jogged about 60 minutes today.
Good luck!

Hi, I've been a member of SparkPeople since late last year but just discovered this group. My overall goal is to lose 48.5 pounds and go from my starting weight of 202.8 lbs (92 kgs) to 154.3 lbs (70 kgs). This will be a loss of 48.5 lbs (22 kgs). So far so good! I've already lost 23.1 lbs (10.5 kgs) so I'm on my way!

Momonlythinner, I'm almost 42 with a 17 month old baby and I don't want to look like his grandmother either.

My goal is a simple one. To keep a hold of the fountain of youth through diet and excersise! I am 43 (44 in July) and I have a one year old daughter. I know I am going to be the "older" mom, but really, no one else has to know :)

Just started so trying to do what the start guide says and work on three goals for next two weeks which are: drink water, walk every day, and track food.

I'm doing this because I'm 45 and realize how my weight is impacting my parenting, marriage, friendships...I should have it together by now and am at my worst. I don't know how it happened but I want to change. It is never too late to be who you could have been....I don't remember who said that but hope it's true!

My goals are:
Lose 18 lbs in 10 weeks ending July 8 (already lost 7.4)
Lose at least 34 lbs by Oct to (hopefully) win Biggest Loser Challenge at work.
Retrain my brain and body to keep this weight off permanently!
Increase my stamina so I can keep up with my son and enjoy more activities.

I always start off like gangbusters, but have a hard time keeping it up long term. So here I am - gotta stay connected to stay motivated. I love fruit and veggies and water, but I also love chocolate. Once I start eating it though, I can't seem to stop.

My long term goals are to lose 40lbs, eat healthier ALL the time, and to lead a better example of a healthy lifestyle for my 4 children. Dont get me wrong, we all eat fruit and veggies and play actively outside and in, but in some areas we are all lacking. Im a lifetime member of WW but Im finding that unless I plan on going to meetings for life I will continue to bounce back and forth and try fad diets in between.
One day at a time. Lower fats and carbs and more water.....

Well my goal is to lose 40 lbs. I am very happy at the weight i have lost in the last year. a total of 50 lbs. It seems i have reached a plato. So i joined SP to see if i can find another way to jump start my weight loss again. Working in the office all day, i did find away to get some exercise during my lunch break and that is to walk a total of 3 miles everyday. Was hard at first but has become a little easier. Now that summer is here again i am hoping to walk another 3 miles in the evenings.

So my goal is just to stick with it and stop making excuses. I joined Spark in 2008 and here I am again. Same weight, same problem, same excuses. I am making myself accountable by going to the gym and having a "weigh in" with other members there. Sometimes I need the competitive portion to keep me on track.

My goal is to lose 25-30 lbs and keep it off. I have been dieting my entire adult life. I have been on Jenny Craig twice. I can't seem to keep the weight off. The last time I could not lose the weight. It was a waste of money. I am hoping that the meal tracker will work better than the Jenny Craig did and with the support system provided here I hope to keep it off this time.

Hi FuryFamily. I feel your pain. I have been struggling with all my adult life with my weight. I've tried it all. Truthfully I am still with WW and plan to stick with them and use Spark People along side for additional motivation and inspiration. I need the extra stuff that is offered here. At WW I need the accountability of the weigh-in. The two should work great together I think. I just joined SP last week. My first full week weigh-in is on Wednesday. I hope this gave me the jump start I needed. I am down 50+ lbs in 14 months. I have 41 to go. Good luck!
