Two pounds is still a great step in the right direction! Don't forget to pat yourself on the back even if you do want to challenge yourself more next month.

You can do it!

Ironically, I just changed my tracker from needing to lose 20 lbs to just 5 lbs. As a change, I figured I'd eat the elephant 5 lbs at a time instead of being overwhelmed by the 20.

I'm definitely ready for the April 5 lb challenge!

Hi all!
Just returned from a 2wk trip. Hotel living & eating away from home was challenging, but I really made an effort & only had one real 'over the top' day. Got some exercise in. Hiking & swimming mostly...not daily though & no strength training. But the scale was kind today, so I'm not complaining!

I am ready for April...BRING IT ON!

I could feel myself not "wanting" to do the work today, but remembered someone saying... just walk to the elliptical and get on! It worked!!!! I did 31 minutes.

I need to stay honest and strong over the weekend. The kids want to go for ice cream, i want wine, meet friends for a "bite" etc. I can drink the water, do my exercise, spark, but the food in-take changes on the weekend!!!!
Stay strong!!!! emoticon

I've actually cut back to working out four times a week and that's when the scale moved in the right direction. I got home from hip hop class Wednesday and ate some Cheetos Puff. Yesterday I had lots to eat during the day and I still lost a little over a pound. Go figure.

I hear you! I work out 5 days if not 7 a week. I run, do yoga, circuit training and weights. I'm eating roughly 1200 cal a day. But you are right...it isn't always about the scales. People can certainly get hung up on them. Sometimes not eating enough to lose that extra pound and feeling light headed or worse. My shape is changing and I can see it. I love this program and I think it will be my biggest success yet and hopefully be my lifestyle forever.

Thank you. I work out steadily but the scale doesn't really budge much. I started at 170.0 on Jan. 3rd and as you can see, it is really coming off slowly. I'm not upset about it at all because I've been around long enough to know that it isn't about the scale. I can tell you that I keep up with the young girls in my hip hop class.

Oops,
I joined a week ago thinking I was joining the April 5lb challenge lol!! Oh well that's what we are working on now isn't it? I lost 1.5lbs since I started the five lb challenge though. Slow and steady wins the race girls, just keep that in mind. I figure if it takes me another 6 weeks to get rid of 10 more pounds the likely hood that I keep it off will be greater. Have a great weekend everyone!!

I actually stayed on Sparks steadily enough to start to see some change--Lost 3 pounds! This is not a true 3 pounds, though, because I fluctuate 3 pounds in an given HOUR!

But, I will feel proud of this today and know that the next 7 days, I will try again!

Daily: 25 minutes on elliptical, 8 glasses of water, no eating after dinner and Spark, spark, spark.

I am going to give it a try. I am not following a certain diet it seems like I have read or tried them all @ one time or another. I am mainly borrowing form the Sonoma diet.It is really hard @ time because its a lot of cooking. I also try to keep a healthy glycemic level. For me its not about getting rid of any food group just fruits, veggies, lean meats & whole grain breads & low fat or no fat dairy, getting rid of all the processed junk was hard. Since I was a hard core junk-food junkie. I think that for me remembering that I am only human & that I will occasionally have something that isn't the best & thats ok too. I just can't make that my way of life anymore. So with the help of my new friends here I spark I think I have a shot.I have decided that my old friends Shoulda, Coulda ,& Woulda are losers!! 5lbs look out!!

To finish off March in the 5 pound loss challenge, how will everyone make it? I will weigh myself tomorrow after a week of 1) water 8 glasses daily 2) sparking every day 3) 20 min every day of exercise (elliptical/walking/strength class and 4) trying not to eat after dinner. I am afraid nothing will be lost weight wise, maybe even gain, B U T reading all of your entries makes me say---I am doing it again NEXT WEEK. Seven days!
How about you all?

Hi all,
Congrats on the weight loss. I`ve lost 5 lbs. since Feb 23rd. but I`ve stayed the same the last 2 weeks. I`d love to lose another 5 by the end of April. I`m a strict food follower, strict on working out. I`ve done my walking now I`m moving up to running again. I ran 40 mins on the treadmill yesterday and going for more today.I also do yoga and circuit training. I`m feeling smaller so I may be gaining muscle and losing the fat. Lets hope so. So, I`m in for the 5 pound challenge.

I just joined on 3/19, so I won't hit the 5 pounds. I have to admit something.... I have NEVER lost weight? I have only gained! I am hoping if I shoot for 5 pounds in April, I will read this board daily to figure it out!
I am on day 4 of 20 minutes of exercise, drinking water, logging in cardio and strength and logging in food. (kind of logging in food)
I am starting today, Monday, with eating breakfast to get back to normal!
KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK SO I CAN READ ABOUT IT TODAY!!!!! I NEED ENCOURAGEMENT

Thanks for your reply. All I'd like to do is track the amount of weight lost. I am setting myself small challenges as I go along and I've set myself a weight loss target of 24 pounds from March to July. I just want the ticker to track my progress in lbs not kgs.

Had a good week! Down 1 lb or 3 lbs -- depends on how I count it....sounds strange, right? Well, I started with Sparkpeople on 2/28/10 and entered my weight and started on the 5 lb challenge for March -- then didn't do anything for 2 weeks because I went on vacation-- well I did something -- ate and didn't exercise.... anyway, when I decided to really get started last sunday - I was 3 lbs higher than on 2/28, so I lost 4 lbs this week, but am only 1 lb lighter than when I originally recorded my weight.... emoticon

What are you referring to..the food combining, or the cutting back on carbs? I don't think I am doing anything particularly radical. What's the difference between substituting for some of the foods I eat, and calorie-counting? I simply look at it as eating healthier. I do cheat sometimes. If I have a craving,I will have 1/2 cup of low fat ice cream, and I also have a beer sometimes when I go out to dinner. Some might also consider a meal of just bread, cheese and veggies a sort of deprivation too. And yes, I also have bread with my meal sometimes-I just don't overdo it. I am not starving myself. If I get hungry, I eat-I just eat something healthier.I do truly believe that once you start eating healthier, you don't want to go back to the old way.

Legalgirl, the trouble of eating like that is that you cannot keep it that all your life... and once you go back to eating normally you gain the weight back.
I just make simple balanced meals, bread + fruit + low-fat milk for breakfast and mid-day snack, bread + low-fat cheese + raw veggie for lunch, and 100g lean meat + 1 tbsp olive oil to cook + 200g starch + 100g cooked veggies + 100g fruit for dinner, a low-fat yogurt for late snack. So far I got no spectacular loss but I lost 1 to 2 pounds a week, never been hungry, never had belly troubles either. It's easy to modulate and portion control too. That's how I used to eat when I was a kid because processed food was not that common and not affordable for us anyway, and I was always slim.

AAW..hang in there! Well, I've never tried Atkins, but I have a couple of suggestions. I have been doing a modified version of the "Fit For Life" diet. It's similar to food combining. The idea is-you eat nothing but fruit in the morning. Then, the rest of the day, you eat only meat and veggies at one meal, or carb and veggies at one meal. For example, you do not mix baked potato with your meat. I found that it helped me lose because if I ate meat, such as chicken breast, at one meal, I would only have veggies with it and not a starchy carb. Or, if I ate carb or pasta at a meal, I was not having fatty cheese or meat with it, which kept the calorie count lower. I also generally avoid eggs. However, since I don't tolerate fruit too well, I would usually have a carb like a small bagel or bowl of cereal for breakfast, and have the fruit as a snack a few hours later. Seems to me the problems with what you mentioned were the cheese, and the eggs fried in butter-both high fat. Also, if you want to stay with the high protein, low carb, another option is the Larry North diet. I tried it about 10 years ago, and it worked well for me at the time. If you need links to either of these, let me know. Don't get down, and remember, you will still look beautiful at the wedding no matter what the scale says!

OMG, I AM FURIOUS THIS MORNING!! I feel so silly for thinking I could do Atkins and lose the last remaining pounds quickly. I thought I would just do the first 2 week "induction phase", absolutely NO bread, rice, pasta, cereal, ONLY carbs from fiber rich veggies, NO FRUIT either! Well, I spent the week eating things like : fried eggs in butter, bacon, cheese, LOTS of meat and veggies. I was extremely sluggish all week and VERY CRANKY!!! So I started Sunday and decided to weigh myself this morning (they claim you can lose up to 15 lbs in 2 weeks)...WELL.....................I GAINED 4 POUNDS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I was LIVID!!!!!!!!!!!!! emoticon My husband didn't want me to do it at all, so he said he's going to work out with me for the next few days and see if we can drop a few pounds before the wedding next Friday. emoticon Any words of advice? I just feel like I really let myself down. I wanted to BAWL when I saw that scale! emoticon

Hey ladies:

Happy St. Patrick's day!

We're halfway through the week again. I've been good with eating and exercising, hopefully my hard work shows on Sunday's weigh in.

Some of you are doing really well, congrats! emoticon

Just curious, anyone ever try Atkins diet?

Carmen
