You are totally right about that. As I've stated before, Myfitnesspal is even better. There is no excuse to not use it. That doesn't mean I won't find one from time to time. emoticon

My last trip, I told myself I had a week off from logging. But, I couldn't resist putting stuff in.
I can estimate alright, like, I had 3 glasses of wine and a lobster roll... I can at least find something similar in the app. Or, I'd get rid of the bread and say, that looks like a 4oz steak to me, and a cup and a half of mashed potatoes. Breakfasts were easy, because I was just mixing smoothie powder in with my coffee.

If you think logging is a pain now, WOOF, back when I joined this site like 10 years ago?
No mobile app and almost nothing in the food database... definitely no barcode scanner.
So, I'd have to write stuff down all day, try to keep that list together, then once a week, go to the library to use a computer to look it up... it was painful, no wonder I didn't stick to it.

Now, with the mobile app and scanner? So, super easy, and other users have input everything from applebee's meals to tunnock's tea cakes... it's actually not that painful adding in new products either (my brand of almond milk wasn't initially in the app).

Soooo happy for how much easier technology is making my journey this time around.

Oh okay. That's great you log your food. I do, and I find that it bugs me a lot lol, but It does help keep me accountable. Maybe I am just looking for an excuse to not log my food though?!

Oh gosh, It would be hard to log food when traveling! I switched to myfitnesspal to log my food and it's so much easier than on here. It's easier to find the foods I eat, and if I eat out, the foods at the restaurants I go to are in there.

Sorry, I meant I have BEEN logging my food for 7 months now. It doesn't have to be a goal anymore because it's just habit now. It was a hard one to form, because, for like two years, I'd log breakfast and lunch, but, the second I got home, the logging stopped... that's no way to lose weight, let me tell you.

It's only really a pain now when I travel or go out to eat at non-chain restaurants, because then I have to play a google guessing game (looking on google images for a similar dish until one pops up from a chain restaurant and I use THAT entry to log). BUT, mostly I do my own cooking, so it's pretty easy.

Yeah because when you actually set a goal and look at it, it helps. I never realized as to how much it helps until a bit ago, lol. So you haven't logged your foods for 7 months and you're still holding yourself accountable? That is great!!! I get so tired of logging in my foods, I have been doing it for about 2 years now and there are times when I will go a day or two out of a week, and not log my foods, but then I will go back and try to remember what I ate, and I usually find that I didn't do too bad on those days. But I won't go any longer than that because I am afraid too. I would just love to not have to log in my foods, because it is annoying to me.

I think I suffered from the opposite problem... I never set actual measurable goals. It was just 'lose weight'. Too vague.

LOL, I actually learned from work about making SMART goals (specific, measurable, actionable, realistic and time-bound). That has been a lot better for me, so I've got other things to celebrate than just pounds lost.

Like, I will log all of my meals for a week straight. Then two weeks, then a month. Now I'm up to like 7 months and don't even think about it anymore. But, it was good to have a realistic goals up front that made me want to do more.

You can do it Zack! That is something I am learning, to set attainable goals. I was I think.almost, like setting myself up for failure, because with the goals I was setting, they were not attainable at all. Now I have learned to break things up in smaller blocks. And I really need to focus on keeping myself occupied when I am feeling down so.I don't binge and go overboard.

Hi everyone, I'm looking forward to getting to know you all better and maybe seeing a couple I knew. I have been here more than a few times.. also under the name Fat2Slim2016 or something like that... Yah.. Not slim so much. LOL

Life has been rough this year but no excuses. I'm ready to get this weight off and keep it off. I lost over 45 lbs last year and gained it back.

Anyway, it's good to be back. :) I also signed up on the biggest loser winter challenge.

Welcome Jem! Believe it or not this is one of the more active groups. It seems I do good on the holidays. It's every day surround the holidays that are killing me! emoticon

I've hit a point where I got down to a certain level and instead of coming to grips with where I am now as the starting point, I keep thinking it will get serious when I get back to where I was. Makes a lot of sense I know. Not anymore. My new goal it to get to 310 by Monday. Just throwing out an attainable goal feels great again!

emoticon Jem! This is a great group to be in. I haven't posted in awhile and wanted to check in and see how everyone else is doing?! I struggled through the holiday but I did get back on track a few days ago. I have had it and really need to up the ante, lol. So with that being said, I am moving forward and really incorporating some coping skills to help with the emotional eating and bulimia. Wish me luck!!! emoticon emoticon

Good for you! I am impressed.
I didn't hit the gym at all during my trip, though I did run up and down my hotel hallway a few times to kick up my heart rate, and did some pushups.

Yeah, I weighed myself and showed myself up 5lbs in just a couple days. There's no possible way. The only thing I can think of was I had some soda and carbs that I usually avoid. Trying to cut them out for a few days and hope to go back down.

Yay! It is becoming more active in here!

Made it (barely) through the holiday break. I didn't do too bad as far as eating though I consumed a lot of carbs and a good portion of those carbs were beer-related. I'm staying off the scale this week because I know that the amount of fluid retention I have going right now will discourage me. The positive is that I continued exercising throughout my trip so I feel I didn't let myself down. I'll try the scale this weekend and hopefully I will be where I started.

Welcome back everyone!

Hey everyone! I'm trying to get more involved with the teams I joined, it helps the motivation.

Just wanted to say hello. I'd like to lose about 160 lbs and I'm trying hard lately. Lots of cooking and planning. Would love to make some pals that have a long road ahead just like I do so we can cheer each other on along the way and maybe ask the occasional "how many cups have water have you drank today?".

Stop by if you'd like to chat or buddy up!

Hello! Just wanted to pop in and say I'm back!

While I have a better handle on balancing work with taking care of my health it hasn't ended up in weight loss. I'm not sure how I am going to make it happen but it must happen.

These past few weeks in the back of my mind the whole time as I go about my life I am thinking this is just got to end now. No more being overweight. I don't want that in my life anymore. I am really happy and contented with my life overall. Things have been going well. This weight thing is like a thorn in my side that I can't reach. Frustrating.

Anyway, I'm back on SP.

It is a constant battle. I was an emotional eater and very passive in the face of an ocpd hoarder (things as well as food). It was nice being away for a week and not having to worry about any comments about my food or other critiques.

I've got a lot of friends that are really into biking... glad you've found something you love that can be a challenge for you.
I was pretty nervous when I bought my treadmill, as it was rated for 300 and I was 299 and worried about the wear and tear. Luckily I've lost enough now that I'm not worried about it anymore, but, it was hard to pull the trigger on the purchase, with the worry that I'd just break the thing (I gave away my elliptical, it was only rated to 250).

One great x-factor for me is work. It was really nice at the conference I just attended, I had to get up on stage a couple times and meet up with potential clients and I felt much more confident in form-fitting, professional clothing that was age-appropriate (I could find comfortable clothes in bigger sizes, but, they were definitely frumpier and more grandma-like than a tech professional my age should be sporting), and I felt like I was paid attention to more and listened to better than in recent years. I look forward to meeting with my team in December (I haven't seen most of them since July or August, because we all work remotely) and feeling like I fit in better and represent our company even better than I already did.
Motivation comes from within, but, the external validation is good, too.

Happy Thanksgiving! I've been down but far from out. Brittany, thanks. Missdorkness, it's a constant battle no matter how far you make it. In fact, the more you lose the easier it is to "justify" it. That's when you are in real trouble. I am just now crawling out of a couple months of backsliding. Thankfully I have my love of bicycling. I made a hard switch to mountain biking and that kicked my fitness up a couple notched. It also helped me get back on track with my intake. My bike is taking too much abuse at my current weight. I mention that because losing weight for the sake of losing weight is never a big enough motivator when you are a food addict. Neither is raw will power. I think everyone needs at least 1 X-factor.

I was out of town for a week and missed Spark, running through recent blogs and my friend feed to try to catch up and immerse myself in the positivity and understanding again.
Came back home to the inevitable emotional turmoil and have been fighting the urge to binge ever since... still staying pretty strong.
Lost three pounds since before my trip, so that's great, but, with all of the hugging of friends and a couple massages, I am just covered in bruises.

Two of my friends have lost significant amounts of weight and said it is normal, but, it freaked me out until I did some reading. There are many reasons for it, which make total sense, but, I started with a daily multi-vitamin just in case it might help. (I never go below 1,200 calories a day, and I should be getting everything I need, but, just to be on the safe side, you know?)

Hey Torop and Brittany. I haven't posted in awhile, been a little busy. I have not lost any weight in a month. I haven't gained either. I am owning up to it though because there have been numerous times where I caved and then stuck with the mentality that, "I will get back on track tomorrow". Well tomorrow hasn't come, lol. So, getting back on track, right now! Oh and Congrats on your weight loss Brittany! That is incredible and so very encouraging! Keep up the great work guys! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

I come back and everyone is gone! Come back friends! Update on me: been a super slow 2 months or so. I am losing about .5 lb a week or so. I'm getting close to the 190 mark. I can't believe I've lost so much in less than 8 months. I hope everyone is doing well.

Zack, so sorry to read about your Mammaw

I enjoy reading, coloring, listening to motivational CD's, or CD's that just play music or sounds of rain, things like that. Or even writing in my journal, but there are times when I don't think to do those things!

Exactly!!! That dopamine is addictive and it makes it both hard and impossible at times too.

SweetPea that is SO hard...I can relate 100%. Is there any other self indulgent thing you like to do when you're feeling badly?

One of my biggest struggles is finding another love language from me to me other than food. That dopamine release is so so addictive though. It's extremely hard to navigate away from that autopilot..

I am so emotional today. And have been a lot lately and binging. It's like, I am upset.about something someone.said or did, and instead of tapping in to my coping skills, I binged terribly. And the thing is, is that, it's not hurting anyone else but me. emoticon I am still exercising though, but the binges are doing me in! I am moving forward but it is hard.

Hope everyone has been doing good and hope you have a great rest of the weekend. emoticon

Hi Godzy,

I'm so sorry to hear you've been dealing with so many injuries!! OUCH!!

I also do seniors/prenatal/postpartum videos on occasion. They're excellent for getting a baseline and focus on mobility which, let's face it, at 50 or 100 or 200 (or whatever) pounds overweight is usually a major barrier!

I know that I injure myself or burn out way more quickly when I try to do too much all at once. Then I struggle with berating myself (why is this so hard? everyone else can do it!!) and have to remember that this is where my body is right now and it has nothing to do with what I used to be able to do or what everyone else can do. It's MY body and MY workout and if it's a challenge to me then it's a good choice (even if my mean inside voice thinks it makes me a wuss).

Hi everyone,

I hope you are doing good. I keep coming back here for a couple of days and then disappear again and I hope I'll be able to stick this time.
I've had a goal of working out more this month, and I started good but had to go to the hospital in ambulance because I could no longer walk. Apparently I have a pretty bad back sprain and now I have to be extra careful with what I do.
I tell you this journey has been a roller coaster for me since April. I've burned myself twice, hurt myself and now the back. Wish I could go back to just my little routine that I had, eating right and working out.

That will probably come back in the future but for now I'm limited to seniors workout which seems okay and will at least get me moving. And so I need to pay extra attention to my eating which have been all over the place lately. Did anyone say Halloween candy ??!!

Anyway that's that for me.
Id' like to be more involve here like I was at first because this site really helped with my weight loss.

I wish you all an amazing week and for those of you who are feeling down, sick or just not good I hope it gets better for you all real soon and for the others well I hope things continue to be good for you.

I just gave away almost all of my bras (the cup is half empty). I've got three left that I was able to tighten all the straps on and use the most inside clips, and they'll hopefully get me through the winter (I usually wear a sports bra daily, since I work at home).

SO the plus side of my girls disappearing on me is that I can finally buy sports bras off the shelf! Trying to focus on that being a good thing.

Finally got outside for a walk yesterday (I'm usually treadmill bound). The fall colors are so pretty right now.

My two clothes-related NSVs, I am down two pant sizes so far (thankfully saved some of my old clothes). Also, a shirt I had bought that didn't actually fit me when I bought it - I tried it on today and it fits perfectly. A non-victory I am having, though, is that my bras aren't fitting anymore. Bras are hella expensive but I have no choice but get some new ones.

Have a great Thursday everyone! Let's kill it!

I have been steady with my weight and today I am really determined to break through this plateau. I also had a few days where I didn't make the best choices snack wise but moving on. Oh no! Take it easy, Sam. Concussions are tricky. Once you think you've turned a corner, the symptoms can come back. Just rest as much as you can and don't push yourself.

Torop21 thank you for the encouragement! I had a few days where I did give in to temptation, and ended up binging. But, I am moving on from it. And you shouldn't feel gross because those things are not under your control and I think it's awesome that you got a workout in without pushing yourself!

Ugh, Sweetpea, I had one of those days a few weeks ago. I wasn't even hungry, I just wanted to eat something. It took all my effort to refocus on something else and before I knew it the day was over. Hang in there.

The past week and a half have been pretty miserable for me. The majority of the shingles rash is gone but my repressed immune system has brought on the flu. I just feel generally gross all over. I'm doing the bare minimum as far as working out. I'm getting my minutes in but I'm really not pushing myself so I'm not sure it's all that beneficial. I did sneak out of work today and got a pretty decent power walk in today so hopefully I am rebounding. I feel I have a lot of making up to do for the past week of slacking.

So sorry about your Mammaw Zack!!! emoticon

I haven't been making the best choices with my food lately and been so busy that I am skipping meals. That just makes me want to eat more later!

That is awesome Sam! @ hope everyone has a good week! emoticon emoticon

Hey everyone! What a week! First of all thank you for all of the well wishes! It was a great week and I think I am really going to like my new job. I am still in classroom training. I had that all of last week and 4 days this coming week. this sitting at a desk all day thing is something new for me but I am making ways to stay mobile. On my breaks I walk down the 8 flights of stairs to use the bathroom and then elevator it back up (its only 15 minutes) I am adjusting as I go but I am so happy with my decision to make this change!

I put a work out room in my basement! i have mirrors, my bluetooth speaker, my dumbbells, a mat for floor work and my work outs taped to the wall! This will make getting my work outs in so easier. My parents are also giving me their stationary bike and elliptical machine! Pretty excited!
I hope everyone has a great day!
Keep Smiling!

This is the slowest this place has been since I've been here. Had to buy a suit early because my dear Mammaw passed away yesterday peacefully and surrounded by loved ones. My eating has been all over the map. Not any weight loss lately, but still riding the bike. 5 more days and I can get back on a "normal" schedule for the remainder of the year. That will help a lot. Hope everyone has a great weekend!

Knock 'em dead, Sam! First days are so nerve-racking!

I've managed to come down with shingles. It started a couple weeks ago but just got a diagnosis. The pain isn't bad but I've reached the really itchy stage. I've been cleared to continue with exercise so that at least is a relief.

I switched from free weights to resistance bands today. It's quite a difference. I set up to try everything with 8 pound resistance bands figuring that I can usually get through 8 lbs no problem. Big mistake - my arms were burning throughout. It's definitely a lot more challenging than I expected. I'm glad I made the switch though because the free weights weren't challenging me that much anymore (other than shoulders - I have weak shoulders).

Safire, I'm jealous that you have access to such great facilities! I don't have anything like that near me and while I could take a walk around the neighborhood, it's a bit of a higher crime area so I'm not really comfortable with the idea. So, treadmill walking it is for me. I may look into joining a gym in the spring but I'm not there yet.

Morning everyone! Hope it was a good weekend. I didn't get as much fitness in but did alright on eating. I got lazy this morning and didn't get to the gym which i am frustrated with myself for. Oh well, just need to make up for it by staying on track with the diet.

It is a new month so I am working on my goals for October. I feel good about what I have done this past few weeks and I know it is just the start of something great.

Sam- Good luck with your first day. You'll do great!

Safire- That's awesome that you have that so close. I hit a park a few minutes from my office and it is definitely my escape too!

Torop- I have the same feeling about Cardio and need to get better at working strength training into my routine.

Brittany- I was about ready to message you since I hadn't seen a post in a while. Way to go on getting below 200. Keep it up and good luck with the new semester!

That is really awesome TOROP21!!

Nice to see you here Brittany! WAY TO GO! Under 200 is awesome!

My go to workout is walking outside at a track they have here. It is a mile and a half track and very nice. Paved with places to stop and stretch or do other exercises. It is my little escape every day! I never dread going.

Here is a pic of one of my places to stop and stretch, this is near the end of my walk. (don't know why it didn't let me rotate the pic)
