Thanks for sharing Hattie! I was getting discouraged by my plateau too but when I put on pants I hadn't worn since winter I felt the difference!
Our efforts are about so much more than just the scale.

Hi Team!!!

I know I am terrible about getting into the chat room, I am working on it for the month of October.

I wanted to pop in though and share a NSV I had last Thursday. Since we all have times when the scale is not our biggest fan--these are the things that can keep us going.

Sooooooo--Last Thursday I surprised my hubby with tickets to a ST Louis Blues Hockey game!! The last one we went to was in February, and we had to kinda wedge ourselves into the seats, and we didn't get up to shout or cheer or anything. Now we both were able to fit just fine, with extra room!!!!!!! My hubby was the first one to point this out!!! He was totally stoked, as this is the first time he has ever tried to lose weight, and was getting frustrated since he hit a plateau. I think he has learned to measure progress by more than just the scale.

We also took front and side pictures the day we started, and at our 4 week mark, it was amazing to see the difference at just 4 weeks!!!

Anyway, had to share, I hope everyone has a great week!!!!!

Hugs,

Hattie

I have been doing pretty good on my water and started working out some the last couple of weeks. I know that I need to make changes to my diet before I see any real changes, but I am slowly working towards it. I hope everyone had a great start to their week!

There is a thread for delicious, healthy recipes at the bottom of the page, if you haven't already, could you please post the recipe there? I bet I'm not the only one who would love to check it out!

Making a good one myself for dinner tonight I should post emoticon

Had a good day today! Woke up to a test from a good friend informing me that he was in town and coming for coffee! Was a wonderful start to the day!

I found a recipe on here yesterday for baked cauliflower and it ended up being so good! I used that as a replacement for potato chips. I will be eating that again. It had a little spice to it too because I added paprika, chili powder, and cumin to it before baking it.

Hi Gang--

Mizfit--Welcome back!! Great job on catching yourself before you went all the way back. I know depression can be hard, but now let's get to it Girl!!!

Late night snacking----I do grapes for the sweet, and popcorn for the salty. Not bad for you, and you still get to snack.

Here is my trick for popcorn----1 tsp olive oil, 2 tbsp popping corn--1 brown paper bag. Put the oil in the bag, then the corn. fold the bag over twice, shake it like crazy, then throw in the microwave for 2 minutes--you will know when it is done--TaDa--healthy microwave popcorn without the 'stuff'.

Super tired lately, my days are even starting to run together. The hubs and I have been getting up and getting our exercise in 1st thing, then we strength train. By the end of the day I am draggin sorry I haven't been on much, I rarely even get on the computer.

Hope everyone has a great day!

Hugs

I can relate to drinking pop. When we were younger if we didn't have pop in the house, to us we didn't have food, lol.

Great idea about using smaller bowls and having fresh freggies on hand to grab. Cutting them up and keeping them prepped in the fridge would help because usually if you feel like snacking you want something now and they would be ready to go. emoticon

I think a lot of us have problems with late night snacking. A thing that helps for me is to have things like veggies or fruit already cut and prepped in the fridge. I also bought small bowls so that if I want to snack on something I can keep the portions small but the bowl still full, it's a great mind trick into thinking you had more than you did because you had a bowl full, even though the bowl is only 1/4-1/2 cup.

Growing up my dad drove a truck delivering coke so we always had pop in the house. It was nothing for my brother and I to drink a 2L of pop in a family movie night evening while scarfing down 4-6 slices of pizza.

My weakness is candy. I'm a sugar fan and can just eat and eat. Im challenging myself to have no candy till Halloween to weed myself off.
Also got into late night snacking.
Those are the 2 im working the hardest on right now.

MIZZFIT2- Welcome back! I am also trying to get back on track. We can do it!

Angey- I don't have one thing in particular that is a weakness food wise right now, but I used to drink a ton of soda growing up. I just never bought soda much after and now I can rarely drink a whole one.

SWEETPEA1399- It is so hard, but I am hoping I can stick with it this time. I am hoping the small steps will make it easier to stick with it.

I thought of something that might be a big downfall for me: late night snacking. It is usually my only time alone to relax and I always find myself hungry and rarely do I reach for healthy foods. Any thoughts on how to change this horrible habit while taking small steps that I can stick with?

You're welcome Plumshort!! I know hard hard this is but it will be so rewarding in the end and on so many levels!

@Angey, I can relate to the problem with soda. I have given up regular soda, drank diet for awhile and then tried giving that up but it is hard. I try not to keep it in the house because when I do, I will drink a couple per day. The last time my husband bought a 12 pack of it, I drank 1 per day. But yeah that is my downfall. We will get there though. Step by step! emoticon emoticon

@ Mizzfit, you will take the weight off again. It's nice to see you back!!

Welcome back!

Plum- baby steps add up fast, just keep making those baby steps and you will get there! We got this!

My biggest hardest thing to stay away from is cola, or more specifically, vodka and coke. I don't get drunk but the 2-3 cups of pop a day do not help the waist line.
I am still struggling with overcoming that one but I have mostly overcome the ice cream by not keeping it in the house very often. I still need to learn how to say no when my son begs for it though.

HI everyone,
Long time no see.

After finally being under 200lbs I lost my job, had emotional ups and downs and just kind of gave up and sunk into a leave me alone cocoon.
I have since gained about 35lbs back and trying to get back on the horse (sort of speak)
So one day at a time, starting with logging food and just reminding myself about why I did this.

Anyways just wanted to say hi to those I remember.

Hattie: Those are some great ideas to help along our journey! I homeschool as well. We started last year and it has been such a huge blessing for our family!

QOTD: I hate to admit that I am tempted by many things. I haven't really given them much thought or worked on how to overcome them. Right now I am focusing on water and schooling my wonderful kids! I hope to add more slowly over time as I get a good routine and make drinking more water a habit again. I have tried jumping all in and it just hasn't worked so I am trying to work slowly at reaching smaller goals for now and see if I stick with it better this way.

It is a marvelous Monday here in Southern Illinois! The weather was beautiful, no complaints. Walking this morning we needed jackets-it makes the walk so much easier when I am not sweating my rear off.

QOTD---Tomorrow is 'Temptation Tuesday' Have you figured out what your greatest temptations are?

How are you working to over come them?

Any advice, have you found something that really works well for you?

Me--Baked comfort foods--cinnamon rolls, doughnuts--you get the idea. I overcome them by not buying them, and trying not to be around them. If they are at a party I try to steer clear of that table. If I am dying, and have a craving I CANNOT get over---I figure out what will fit into my calorie budget, and decide if I am willing to give something else up. Then I enjoy ONE--without guilt, and move on. I haven't had Krispy Kremes in a month--this is huge for me, I love them, and can eat 6 by myself normally.

Have a great day all, Cheers!!!

Hey Hattie! Sounds like you were really busy, lol. Those are great tips! Those will really help me out because if I am busy all day running errands or such and if I don't have a snack on hand, I will go home and binge.

Good for you for taking a quiet day because we all need those at times! My weekend was pretty much the same. Had a good weekend though. Eating wise did good up until Saturday night. I have not ate pizza in a long time and over did it with that and bread sticks. But got up Sunday morning and stayed on track with my eating. I did exercise too. :) I hate to admit it though, I liked the cooler weather too, lol.

Hope everyone had a wonderful weekend.

Hi Gang--These last few days have been a blurrrrrrr, I have been going non stop for quite some time. Following my eating plan, and getting in tons of exercise, but today I took off from exercise, other than walking the dogs. I think I just needed a quite day=)

So I know last time I was on we talked about a Plan B--and I wanted to share a few of my tricks.

1--Always have comfy shoes/socks in the car --we love to geo cache, and you never know when you might get the chance to go for a walk. Got a 20 minute wait in the doc's office, make a lap around the parking lot.

2--Always have decent emergency snacks in the car, my choice is Cliff Bars. If you have ever let yourself go to long without eating, you know what I am talking about. An 'emergency' snack can save you from a drive thru run.

3--Have an emergency snack in your purse, Cliff Bars are great here too, but I also keep Altoids, not really a snack but a peppermint Altoid is so strong, and peppermint is shown to cancel cravings.

4--Use the timer on your phone to walk for 5 minutes in place, moving your arms as well as your legs. Some days exercise just isn't going to happen, but we can all get 5 minutes in. If you can do it 4 times, boom 20 minutes of exercise done.

Hope this helps everyone.

I am homeschooling my daughter, so some days I don't get the chance to jump on. Hopefully now that we have a schedule/pattern down it will be much easier.

Cheers to a great week!

I find digital scales to be much more accurate so when buying a new one keep that in mind. As for 1200 calories a day, you don't want to lower your calories by more than 700 a day at a time and once your body gets used to that then lower again. Going too low at a time could have the opposite effect of what you're wanting.

I have tried working out with a headache but it just pounds more so I don't try anymore. I like to listen to my body, except when it's telling me I'm too lazy to work out lol.

Are you really good at measuring out your servings? That can make a huge difference in your total calories at the end of the day. Most women can go as long as 1200 safely if you want to see more progress. How much are you exercising? I am trying to increase my water right now and get more consistent with it. I am also trying to get in a few workouts this week. As for a scale, I would look on amazon and check reviews. I bought my digital scale at Walmart a few years ago and it seems to work pretty good. I think I spent around $40 or $50 for it though.

Hi all! I've had a good week, but only lost .6 of a pound so kinda bummed. I'm going to try lowering my calories from 1,700 to 1,600 and up my exercise and see if it makes any difference. I've been doing well with my goal of eating regularly and drinking enough water. It's been hot and humid here so water is key! Anyone have any suggestions for a good scale. I can step on mine 3x in 15 min and get weights 15-20lbs apart. Today I got 312, 298 and 292. No clue if any are correct. I've been using my work scale once a week to weigh in but I'd like a better one for at home.

Sometimes, exercising actually helps my headache if I can bring myself to do it. I usually drink water, exercise or drink caffeine to get rid of a headache. I hate taking pain meds so I avoid it most of the time. Kittens are a lot of fun!

How is everyone's Labor Day weekend going? Since we homeschool, I had them research why we have a labor day in the first place. Very tragic!

My son and I both have been fighting headaches this week too. It's been rough for getting in the exercise. And we brought home a new kitten this weekend too who also seems to be very distracting, but in a good way.

Bananas don't last in my house very long. My whole family loves them! I buy frozen wild blueberries for smoothies, oatmeal, muffins, etc. Frozen wild blueberries over a bowl of shredded wheat 'n bran is SOOOO good!

I got a ton of fruits and veggies today and did some organizing last night but have been fighting a headache most of the day so no organizing really today.

PLUMSHORT I am doing the same. I am doing it little by little and have accomplished so much!! It is amazing how it makes you feel when you can get some organization within your household too.

As far as my family getting involved with healthier choices, I have my family eat a recipe off of here a couple times per week. Surprisingly I don't think there has been a meal that they haven't liked either. This really helps me out too.

Smoothie Fruit- We seem to always have fruit that ripens faster than we think it will. Any fruit that I think may go bad before we eat it, I cut it up and freese for smoothies (please don't mind my spelling error, a couple letters on my keyboard don't work lol) At the moment, we have banana, blueberries and peaches.

QOTD: I am just trying to focus on adding more water right now.

What are everyone's plans for healthy living over the weekend?

I am focusing on organizing my home/life/kitchen so that it is easier to make those healthy choices! I also plan on stocking my kitchen with TONS of fruits and veggies to help my whole family make more healthy choices too. I would also like to look up some recipes for freezing some fruit/veggie smoothing mixes to make quick when we are busy and so kale doesn't go bad.

I usually do well with moderation but them hormones yep. Lol. At least they are small ice cream bars!

I get in a walk in the morning (most weekdays) which is my plan b and often at lunch as well so if I don't get in a good workout I still did something.

I think you're right, we need to allow ourselves to have a treat. I find that If I restrict everything all the time that I will then binge on junk. Of course moderation is the key.

I was not on track yesterday. I have been having a hard time lately but I am going to get back on track starting right now! Oh and it is a great idea to have plan b set up. I do not have plan b set up, lol, I need a plan b HELP!!!

Good luck on your goals this week everyone! emoticon emoticon

AngeyK--sometimes I end up doing that too, all that hard work for, well, ice cream!!! When I have an event coming up that I know will involve eating I try to workout super hard, and eat extra good on the days leading up to it. I hope you really enjoyed your treat, and are ready to kick off September with a bang, because let's be real--once in a while we need that, especially girls--those darn hormones kick me in the but some days=)

I am on track, but no workout yet, crazy morning, so am heading into my bedroom to do a video.

So that brings me to my next planning question--what is your plan B?

Me--today I did ride my bike to and from the little grocery store we have in town, it only took 17 minutes--but it was a whole lot better than doing nothing, just in case I didn't have time later--which I am lucky I do. A workout video is also my plan B, when it is too hot/humid outside.

Eating Plan B involves tracking everything I can, and trying to do cutbacks where possible, after all, every bite counts =)

Have a marvelous afternoon!

Hattie

Goal 1000 fitness minutes/month!

I may not be to the finish line yet--but at least I am in the race!

A healthy me is up to ME!!!!!

I did stick to my plan and even exceeded it. I homeschool my two teens and they started last week which went better than I thought it would. Eating could be much better tho. I keep missing breakfast which I have to eat but with A week busy with lessons its difficult to remember. I did get in breakfast this morning, only because my son had class and then, testing so we really can't start lessons until he finishes that.

Hope everyone has A beautiful day

Hi Gang!! Sounds like we have some plans for the week, that is great!!
Now let's try to give ourselves 5 minutes a day to put these plans in motion emoticon

Not gonna lie, today sucked for me, I had to get up an hour earlier than I had been since I started back to homeschooling my daughter this week. I have learned that if I don't get up and get my exercise outta the way it doesn't happen--my legs were on fire, and I was half asleep but I got 38 activity minutes in doing walking and chorus intervals.

1st day of school was a success and my daughter seems to be enjoying it as well. emoticon emoticon

So today's QOTD may not be until later at night--no computer until my workout is done, and I may not make it on before 9--which is when we start school=)

So here is Monday's QOTD--Did you stick to your plans for today? If yes great--how are you rewarding yourself? If not--are your throwing in the towel for the rest of the week or are you setting up tomorrow to be better? After all, if you dropped one egg, emoticon would you throw the other 11 eggs on the floor?

Me--Today went as planned, but then I am old hat at this, it is just the sticking to it long term that I have trouble with. My planned reward is a cup of strawberries with whipped cream. It is family night, so we always have a treat, but we have switched our treats from baked goods to fresh fruits.

BTW--My hubby joined me on this journey this time, his loss for the week--11.2......Sometimes it sucks being a girl=) emoticon

Nope no max or minimum amount. Just listen to your body and don't overdue it.

Qotd: gotta give lots of koodos to you Hattie for being able to bring us these and keep them interesting. It's one thing we were not good at while you've been away lol.

I am planning my meals this week and getting back into upping my water.
