My plan this week is to up my steps to 6k a day and get in at least 40 active minutes. DH and I are thinking about starting NutraSystem and see how it goes for a week.

Hi Gang!! Thanks for the welcomes!!!

Now let's get to it---it is the beginning of a new week, what is one thing you have PLANNED to keep you on track?

Me--I have our weeks' worth of meals planned, and some of the food ready to go.
Our M/W/F workouts are also planned--they are mainly cardio T/TH/S are our active recovery days, and this week we are adding moderate strength training.

So that is my plan---what's yours?

Goal 1000 fitness minutes/month!

I may not be to the finish line yet--but at least I am in the race!

A healthy me is up to ME!!!!!

Hi Gang!!!!

Back from my summer hiatus, I think I will be skipping summer challenges going forward, I would rather spend the time with my family =)

We recently discovered a recreation center in the next town over with a huge indoor aquatic center. I walk the lazy river while the kiddos swim or hit the slide. SO fun.

So biggest change for me is my hubby has decided he is done 'being fat.' He has put on 30 pounds since we moved, and it is all right in the belly. His pants weren't fitting and he just generally didn't feel well. He decided he wanted to get a tracking device and went with a Withings, since it looks more like a watch, less like a tracker.

I had recently read an article about the Rice Diet, which is actually a different way of eating, that you do for life. So I put together a weeks worth of menus and shopped for it.

Long story short, we started Monday. My hubby is doing a couch to 5K fr his fitness, and I walk while he runs. Our local park is about 7 minutes from us, so we walk together until his warm up is over, and then he does his running program. I walk the entire time, and then we finish his 5 minute cool down walk home. It works well, and this morning when he wasn't motivated I got him up and going. On the off days we are riding our bikes separately for 2 miles, and walking the dogs together at night.

So far...he is down 7.8, and I am down 4.8!!! I know I know it's the water, but it still feels good to,'Let it go, Let it go..........'

I hope everyone has a fantastic day, I will now spend the rest of my day sewing aprons for an event at church on Saturday.

Cheers,

Hattie emoticon

Sounds busy! Tae Kwon Do was fun, I was in it when I was a kid. Got up to red belt before my teenage years and dropped out to party instead. My family was all in it and parents brother and cousin all made it to black belt. My cousin is a teacher in Grande Prairie Alberta still he is soon testing for his masters! Super proud of him! emoticon

Sorry I haven't been active on here lately. I have been so busy with my kids' summer activities (swimming, soccer, 5 different 4H projects, taekwondo, Bible class) that I have been having a hard time getting online to do much of anything. By next week we will be back down to our normal activities that are year long: teakwondo and Bible class. Even if we do classes all 4 days of the week for taekwondo, it will feel like a vacation compared to our insane schedule the last couple of months. I homeschool and we will be starting that up again probably in two weeks.

The last week I have been eating better and exercising and drinking more water. I hope I can keep up this momentum as we start the school year!

Thank you and I sure did!! Got a little too much sun, lol, but other than that it was an awesome day with great friends and family!!! So peaceful. Oh and we saw this guy walking this beautiful dog (she looked more like a wolf) and I told the guy that his dog was beautiful, then I asked if she had wolf in her and he said, " oh yeah quite a bit", I was thinking is she full wolf, lol, but she was beautiful!! Very cool. She was silver, grey, and white, just so pretty.

Beaches are so much fun! I hope you had a good swim! emoticon

The potluck was really good except for the fact that it rained and my uncle had to BBQ in the rain. We had steak and lots of delicious salads. I shared a brownie with my two neices so I got to enjoy just a taste of the dessert.

Be careful with those extra workouts lol. We are going to the beach. I heard of a great beach about an hour away from us, so I thought maybe we would go there. I think the kids would really enjoy that. Me too...I finally get to go swimming because I got my stitches out and the holes have closed up, yay, lol.

Hope everyone has a great weekend!! emoticon emoticon

I love to walk around the park while my son plays too! Then we're both getting in our exercise.

Doing well with my goals today. Did extra workouts yesterday and sore now lol.

Anyone have plans for the weekend? We are going to my uncles house for a big potluck BBQ with all the aunts, uncles, cousins and families. Should be fun! Then after that we are going to spend the night at my moms. I'm excited for it!

Welcome Mandy!

I injured my feet at Disneyland last week... they hurt SO BAD by the end of day 4, even though I was taking pain medication. I had been hoping to get back into exercising like normal this week, but I decided that recovering was more important.

Today I walked to the park with my boy though. I normally do three laps around the park while he plays (which ends up being about 3.2 miles from leaving the house to returning home), but I didn't want to push it, so I sat and read while he played. Tomorrow if I feel up to it I'll walk the three laps (but not attempt to do any running).

Looks like I should be back to normal next week though :-)

Welcome to the team! I agree, it's not a diet so to speak because the way we eat to lose weight is the way we will have to eat for the rest of our lives. It's not about following a diet but about learning to eat properly and healthily.
I know this will pass it's just so frustrating! Once I break through it though I know the pounds will fly off again just gotta keep on pushing!

emoticon and emoticon Mandyrose!!! Oh believe me I have a way's to go as well, but one thing I have learned through this lifestyle change ( I don't refer to it as a diet), is that if I look at the whole picture it brings me down and makes me want to quit at times, but if I take it one step at a time, it makes me feel good!!

This is a great group to be a part of and make sure you check out our challenges we have going on. They are so much fun!!! emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Hello all - I'm new to this group. I have a long road ahead of me - lots to lose. I started Dr. Cohen's 1st Personal Diet yesterday. The first three days will be the hardest. I'm headachy and was grouchy last night! Determined to do this though for my three sweet boys. emoticon

HATTIE!!!!!! I was just wondering where you have been!! Glad you are doing good. emoticon @ thanks so much for the advice, I know I have been beating myself up a lot lately but I am going to get right out of that funk and move on!!! emoticon

Angey I know. I want it to be active again too because I know I need encouragement from time to time or advice or just for someone to listen when I need to talk.

This week has been going smoother for me. I understand about the plateau though because I just came off one, well I think I have emoticon . Don't beat yourself up because this too shall pass!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

This was a very active daily chat line and I miss it. I would love to see it active again.
How is everyones week going? Any new goals set for this week?

I seem to have hit a plateau despite my continued efforts but I'm not letting it get me down. I am pushing harder, looking for ways to add into my workout and focusing on not drinking alcohol through the week. emoticon

Summer Brain, that makes sense. Sometimes it can be hard to stick to all the tracking when like you say, trying to limit screen time and enjoy the nice weather. As long as we are still working towards our goals it's all good! Even if it does go a little slower in the summer. Meals arent my big issue, it's wanting things like ice cream or slushies on such hot days! emoticon

Hi Gang!!!

I had a few extra minutes so I am jumping into the group=)
I am in the middle of doing 2 90 day challenges, and trying to limit my screen time since it is summer--so that is where I have been. Still going strong just want to be outside.

I noticed some posts about a few 'off' weeks--this is a pattern that happens to A LOT of us when we head into the warmer months--since we are conditioned to think of summer as relaxation our brains do a little relaxing as do our habits. SO don't beat yourself up, just jump back in. Next year just plan for it--in my calendar I mark it as 'Summer Brain' on May 1st--since that is when I begin to notice it. I try to pay extra close attention--but I allow 2 'cheat' meals per week instead of 1 for about 6 weeks. After all it is summer =)

Talk to you soon!!

Cheers!

Hattie

Goal 1000 fitness minutes/month!

I may not be to the finish line yet--but at least I am in the race!

I was still holing onto the wagon but not all the way on. Back on now though for the ride and it feels great!

emoticon Bill way to go!!! That is so awesome!!!

Angey, thank you and I am sorry for your struggles, you will get back on track girl because you have come too far to stop now.

I don't know what had gotten into me because I was doing so well. I did join the stress busting challenge and I have learned more about stress and how it can actually aid in emotional eating and beating ourselves up too. I would suggest everyone join that challenge because It's only been two weeks since I joined, but It is helping me to deal with stress and to deal with this lifestyle change that I am on. And on a good note I have gotten two great nights of sleep with no binging all night or purging. So for that I am happy. Getting back on track.

SWEETPEA- I'm sorry to hear that you are struggling. I've been out of my routine for a few weeks now and haven't been doing as well food wise as I had been. Still getting in some good workouts though. emoticon emoticon

I MADE IT!

That hike was one of the hardest things I have done in a long time. We took it slow and made it up to the lake we were hiking to in 2 hours. It was a awesome site. There was still a bit of snow up there so we got to have a snowball fight and make snow angels which was fun. As I was going up the trail, I was thinking about the 30 lb pack on my back. When I reached the lake, I took my pack off and felt so much lighter. Imagine, 8 months ago, I weighed 40 lbs heavier and this is what I carried all the time. It was definitely humbling and a good reminder of how far I've come.

Hope everyone has a good weekend!

That was one night out of the past couple weeks it seems like, where I wasn't eating at night!! Having such a hard time lately and just struggling big time. I am going to start gaining the weight that I have lost back if I don't do something. I am going to make sure I go to bed at a decent time and no eating this evening!!

SweetPea: Great job!

Bill: Your trip sounds like fun. I hope to get some outdoor adventure this summer, as well. I'm super out of shape, so I'm nervous. I'll get there!

Today I swam laps for 20 minutes...after 2 weeks of no exercise whatsoever. I am feeling really good. My body likes to be active, even if my brain doesn't. hee hee. I am hoping to do something active with the family tomorrow, maybe a walk in the park, or a short hike. We'll see if the rain holds.

So I get to do something today that I haven't done since I was 15 years old. I am going on a backpacking camp. I am a volunteer scoutmaster for my church's boy scout troop and up until now, we have stuck to car camping. When we put this on the calendar in December, I was hopeful that I would be in great shape for it. Of course, I kinda slacked the month of May away. I am back in a groove but not exactly where I want to be but I am excited for this trip. We are hiking to a lake that is 2 miles away which is not too bad. The trouble is that it is far from flat. The trail head is at elevation 7500' and the lake is at 8900' so 1400 ft of elevation gain!

We are in no rush so my plan is to take it easy and put lots of rests in and enjoy the scenery. I will plan to post a few pictures after the trip.

Have a great weekend and do something to push yourself!

I'm at day 2 of getting back on track. I felt like yesterday was a success. I did a little too much munching after dinner but I tracked everything and was in my calorie range. Got back to the gym today and had another good workout.

One thing I felt the past few weeks was a severe lack of energy in the evening. I would come home and just want to sit and watch tv and relax. I know that feeling will subside as I get back into my routine. In ow that the daylight is longer, there is so much I could get done in that time.

Hope you all can make today a success.

It's so easy for old habbits to creep back in there isnt it? Glad you have been able to re-focus and get back in it.

Well, I got up this morning and made it to the gym for a workout. It has been too long but felt good. Habits have to start somewhere. I have really struggled this past month with eating out on my lunch break which has lead to some bad eating the rest of the day. I am such a black and white person so I really have to go back to my old goal of no fast food or drive-thrus allowed. I went almost 6 months without it and had success and I am ready to get back into seeing that success.

Anyways, hope everyone has a good week.

Wow...You have had your plate full Angey! It's nice that your mom has you to help her out. Congrats on the 5k walk that is awesome too!! About the food tracking, we all have had times where were just too busy to log in but don't feel guilty because you have recognized it and owned up to it, plus getting back on board!! That's great!

My weekend was okay. I have to admit that I haven't been making the best choices with food, sodium intake, and portion control!! I told myself this morning that I am getting back on track and staying away from potato chips, cookies, and going to watch my portion size. I have come too far to stop now. Keep thinking about the weight I will lose in another 5 months!! emoticon emoticon emoticon

Have had a crazy busy June so far starting with the 5k walk my son and I did on the 31st after that we have been at my moms house sitting as well as taking care of our own home and pets and still working. So very happy to be back home and getting back into routine. I haven't had much chance to keep up with tracking my food and I am feeling a little guilty about that but it's ok, moving on! I have still been tracking my workouts emoticon
I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Yep me too Angey.

Bill no worries you will get back on track!! The most important thing was you did get great exercise in and you spent quality time with your family!!

Caseyokongo, I can relate to you! It's hard when we have to go to a relatives or friends and they have sweets and treats, but most importantly you are not giving up and that is what counts. Don't look back and press forward!

Bill, I hear ya man! I went to my grandmother's 80th b-day party this weekend in my home town. My home is set up for my success, my mother's- not so much. She spent over $150 on sweets and treats for the kids (and me of course). I did make sure to spend at least 30 minutes exercising a day, but the temptation was too overwhelming. What a setback, but I am NOT giving up. And even though I allowed myself to "backslide" per se, I still made as many healthy choices as possible. You and I are going to have a great week because we want this more than we want those old habits!!

Hope everyone is having a good start to the week. Spent the weekend camping with my kids so lots of hiking and exploring but not the best nutrition. Committed to a good week!

The seated workouts were my go to when I first started too! I still like them when I want something lighter and when my ankle is acting up No excuses!!!

Angey, the seated workouts are great on here! I used them when I first started my exercise program. So much easier on the joints and back for sure. Another thing is if you have access to a local pool, especially a heated pool, it does wonders on your joints!!!
