I stayed home from work yesterday due to a migraine and I did what I always do when I'm home. Binge eat/ I was so ashamed that I didn't even track it. I also skipped out on aqua zumba. Now I am at work and feeling extra motivated again, which always happens when I sit at work and research super foods, and fitness goals. I need to somehow keep that going when I get home. I find that after a grueling day at work ( I am a social worker) I am too exhausted to do anything except sit on my sofa and play online games. This month I have been going to Aqua Zumba on Tuesdays, it's fun and low impact on my knees and I hope to up it to 2 days a week in July. I need someone who can help keep me in check, text me throughout the day to help keep me motivated and share tips with. I want to lose about 200 lbs. I am at my heaviest ever and it has gotten out of hand! I am going on a cruise in a couple weeks and I have been stressing on if I will fit in the small state room and be able to shower comfortablly. Maybe I am just stressing for no reason, but this is the kind of stuff that I get anxiety over, almost every day of my life. Another reason I have to do something about this weight! Ok sorry for venting, I just feel like no one really understands when I try to explain it to them.

Iím doing ok. I was very sick almost all of last week so I didnít exercise but just a little. Iím trying to get back into the swing of things this week. I can say I didnít eat horribly last week though. Eating too much has always been my biggest problem. Iím trying hard to start eating more vegetables and drink more water. I bought an eggplant yesterday, I donít know what Iím going to do with it yet, got to find a recipe. Iím going to try a new vegetable every week! I like how youíre keeping busy after dinner so you donít snack! I need to do that as well.

How is everyone doing? Being a very wet winter here I have been struggling to get my exercise in and also tend to be heading to the pantry in the evening so the rest of this month my focus is real simple - home gym exercise routine before I even enter the lounge after work so I don't put it off (yes I know I will put it off till eventually its 2-3 days without doing it if I don't commit to doing it straight away - it is one of the only reasons I was happy to pay for a gym membership before) and no more snacking after dinner - so scrapbooking supplies have been stocked up and my anti-snacking hobby has taken over the lounge again :-)

Last month was really hard . I didn't do that good. I feel like it was kind of a way for my body to re set itself. I didn't blow it or go way over board . I just didnt do as well as I could have. Anyway off to a way better start for this month.

Today marked my first complete week using Sparkpeople trackers for food and fitness and I am happy to report I lost 7 pounds!! Finally I am within my scale's range lol :-) So I did mess up yesterday and went over my calories because I had company and ate before I logged it (then to my surprise I had eaten 1400 calories in one meal), but luckily it was all healthy foods (just too much)! So I have a binging problem where I can't seem to stop eating until I feel sick to my stomach and nothing else will fit. So this week I have been eating a lot of fruit and veggies that I feel it's "ok" to binge on and tracking it on sparkpeople before I ate helped me not totally overdo it. Also eating only unprocessed food leaves me feeling satisfied quicker (who'da thought lol) and I don't get cravings barely at all. I have been walking my dog for 50 minutes daily too. So I just wanted to share my first week's success and hopefully this week will be just as great! My goal (maybe wishful thinking, but a goal nonetheless) is to get under 300 by July 1st. I know that's a lot but I have been drinking so much water, I'm hoping the weightloss will snowball (avalanche?). I appreciate everyone else's comments on their experience, I seriously read everything I can on this site while I'm at work to keep myself focused!

So I rejoined about 2-4 weeks ago and made a couple SparkBuddies. Then I proceeded to get our family ready for vacation. I have to admit, I ate healthy foods/watched portions the entire trip. I don't think I over did it at all, especially considering I spent three full days walking around Disney parks with my family. Lots of walking, standing in lines (moving/fidgeting/stretching), a couple buffets---one of which I might not have completely behaved myself, but not concerned.
I had a shock prior to vacation, stepped on the scale and it read 291....9 lbs higher than my most recent weigh in (prior to yesterday). I was appalled. I put in some activity prior to leaving and ran errands, etc., but came home this week--weighing 284 which I count as a success since I was gone over a week. Daytona Beach was sun, more walking, and obviously eating, but I made good choices and didn't take advantage of the "all you care to eat" aspect of any buffets we ran into.
Friday I took the hubby and five kids to a local U-Pick for strawberries and we ended up with 38 lbs of them. I figure I will make a couple strawberry "pies" (bought graham cracker crust and will use that instead of cheesecake or yellow cake mix). I would like to say that wise choices are a constant, but cannot yet. I think we have put an emphasis on food and eating well since a brief time of financial strife early on in our marriage. Funds were limited and sometimes paying the bills resulted in small grocery trips. We got our priorities in line and then some, so part of it...can be blamed on that, but by no means am I making excuses for my rampant disregard for personal health.
I'm sitting here on my very sore behind, with a kink in my neck due to sleeping across the end of twin beds (my 6 yr olds had their first sleepover with a friend and needed me in there because for some reason "big foot" came up)...LOL. I ate Raisin Bran today and had a bottled water, so I'll probably just have a couple ibuprofen and try to relieve it.
I know this is random and long-winded, but I am finding I need support and reassurance. I can't get that from a personal journal blank page/screen. Hope you don't mind me going on (and on). Thanks and have a wonderful weekend, or what's left of it.
Chrissy

Thank you for the information. It's just good to know that the frustration will be alleviated eventually, lol. I never really have trouble with eating the wrong things or over eating, except during holidays, my problem is stress. I have learned that I need to stop putting everything on myself and just be responsible for my family and myself only. It has been much better since then and now I can say no, that's a big step. Thank you again.

I feel your pain...my stomach is the biggest thing on me. It's bulbous. And everywhere I go I see peoples eyes drift down to my stomach and it makes me feel horrible. I'm a partner in a successful business and it's the first thing people see when they meet me. It makes me look and feel unprofessional, when everything else about me is the opposite of what they see.

From what I read, there are no exercises that will target body fat. And kinesiology teaches us that the body loses weight from the extremities in. So eventually our bodies will be forced to use our torso fat for food. I do know though that when I exceed 8 waters a day, I lose water weight and that translates to looser underwear and shorts and pants. I know it's so frustrating....we can't see immediate results...but slow and steady truly does win the race.

Are there other non scale related victories you can report? Making more good decisions than bad, no longer craving something, finding exercise easier...we need to find success and victory in other things until it shows up the things that we see with our eyes.

Hope all are doing great. I haven't been on here for a while but I am back and happy to be.

I am really trying hard to lower the size on my stomach. It seems I loose everywhere else but there. Don't know if I am doing the right exercises for that area. Does anyone have suggestions that are working for them that might help me? Anything will help.

emoticon SWEETPEA!!! 4 lbs is a big deal. That's half a newborn baby that takes 20 weeks to grow right? LOL

A minor crisis on a job site derailed my water efforts today. Driving for 2.5 hours for a deadline meant that I did not have time to keep stopping to pee. Hopefully I can make up some ground tomorrow.

Tonight I'm taking my daughter out for dinner. She's been under a HUGE amount of stress at school. Just a few days left but our teachers are on strike here coupled with a lockout and I had words with her Humanities teacher this morning over a project. She says they had 3 months to do it, but failed to mention that while she gave them the outline 3 months ago, she took it back immediately and didn't give it back until 2 weeks ago. Half the class isn't finished it, including my daughter despite the late nights. I fail to see how it's fair to give students 2 weeks to complete a project that is in lieu of a final exam AND accounts for 10% of the semester grade. Anyway....relaxing dinner out tonight...absolutely no "super project" talk at all. Thursday is their scheduled strike day so she has the day to work on it before presenting on Friday.

I'm so behind on my kitchen and laundry it's making me super stressed so after dinner, I'll be tackling the kitchen and laundry! I may have time to get in an arm workout as well. Have a good night everyone!

what a great idea about the vase, pebbles and butterflies. I'll have to think of a reward along those lines for me.

I am feeling so good about myself right now. I know its silly but I have lost 4 pounds! Not a lot I know but it is to me. I joined sp back in January and got off track. June 1st I started over saying to myself I am going to get this weight off. Well today I weighed myself to find I have lost 4 pounds!! So proud of myself and just hope I keep it up from here and not gain. emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon

Good idea to focus on NSV. I don't lose ever week, but I feel good if I stuck to my plan. Never thought about having those as part of my rewards.

Oh No hypothyroidism is something which I suffer from but luckily I am not even on medication anymore as I have maintained for the last 6mths .2 above the level requiring treatment ... of course this means my thyroid function is still very low but I am using a natural thyroid support (capsules) and taking iodine - I hope you can find a solution soon

Maybe instead of focusing on the scales you can reward good eating habits or good exercise ??

I love the idea of rewards, but I've been gaining for over a year so I've never met any :( Still trying to find a hypothyroidism treatment that works for me. I was sure this dosage would, but it isn't having the desired effect. I'm going to give some thought to rewards tonight.

MetalJen - I am a big believer in rewards for meeting goals - I have not been able to convince anyone else to reward me though :-) so I will continue to reward myself - I also track my success with a vase on my kitchen windowsill with glass pebbles in it for every kg lost a pebble goes in and every 10kgs I add a pretty ornamental butterfly on a wire stick - I am working on my third butterfly at the moment but hope to hit butterfly number 5 by the end of the year :-)

I have been struggling a little due to some family dramas but seem to be coming out the other side and finding my focus again

For my husband to motivate me I made a list of things I really wanted. Some very small like a hair cut. The biggest was a trip to Disney World at Christmas time. He agreed to fulfill the list as I lose. So I gave each item a goal weight. There is no punishment for not doing it other than I have to wait longer for the things on my list.

It is very motivating to work towards positive goals.

I know how you feel, I love exercising I just have a problem doing it consistently- I have two young kids and things often come up and that's a big part of the problem.

I also am struggling with moderation. Just keep trying! I am going to try to start drinking a lot more water and cut out the sodas. I have never been a soda drinker until the past few months, now I feel like I have to have a coke or Dr pepper everyday and sometimes twice in a day. I'm also going to make it a priority to walk at least 30 mins a day. Once I get that down I think my next change will be to only eat at certain times because I found I snack too much throughout the day.

I'm trying to get myself to understand i like the fitness. when i do it i feel better for doing and it boosts my moods. now i just need to figure out when to consistently do my workout.. i get ruffled when i get up too late or people around when i want to do it. Also want to figure out how not to give in to my impulses when shopping... food i don't plan on eating seems to come home with me every time, and its not bad in moderation... but i'm still struggling with that moderation bit.. i seem to be working on things in bits and pieces but i'm not putting them all together to make it a cohesive change in lifestyle...

?? Here is were we need suggstions. If i gain weight what should be the consiquence? my husband says tht if i can wait during a week i should double the exercise for the next week,

May I have some thoughts and suggestions please

Since I started actually paying close attention to my body more than to my taste buds I have made a big change in my attitude towards food, I sometimes eat that extra item if I am really hungry, but I plan a whole lot better, I do not let the little bumps on the road kill all my work I have done, I know I have a long road ahead because I do not take medication for my thyroid and I have a knee injury , but I do not let that stop me. I still have managed to lose a pound a week which is great considering a yr ago that is what i was gaining every week, I am living proof that you can change the thyroid issues by eating healthy and living healthy. I never thought I could actually get off those thyroid pills, I am so thankful that I came across this site, I did not use it at first but gave into the idea that to live a long time , I have to eat like I want to live a long time, no canned foods, no fast foods, and no food in a box. I love the support and articles on this website. Thank you sparkle people for doing what you do.

Thank you all. Until I started on this healthier life style I ate whatever I wanted when I wanted. I think alot of it was having cheesecake and other foods . Now i do few a far between. I don't think I could make this last unless I can go to family function or special occasions and not feel deprived. It makes it easier to keep going and making it a lifestyles change.

Eating at a family celebration is okay. There's family, there's food, it's time to make all the old favorite complicated recipes and enjoy them together....it's when you're eating like that all day every day that it becomes a problem. I hope you had a wonderful Easter and enjoyed spending it withi your daughter!

LessCupcakes ----I love the name by the way=)

It is so great that your daughter recognized your accomplishment!!!! Sometimes not seeing people who we haven't seen in a while, and their reaction to our new bodies is the best feeling.
I know I am my own worst critic, so I love when others critique me=)

I have come to the conclusion that family events normally equal one pound, but that is ok with me, since that pound means I have enjoyed my time with my family and friends. I track on my phone during family events, and the only thing I will whip out a measuring device for is the dressings, and I only choose the stuff that I REALLY like. I learned to no longer eat something just to make sure I don't step on someones toes.
If I do get asked why, I tell them it isn't in my calorie budget. That normally is the end of it, but I inspired my family to start making healthier dishes. Gone are the fruit salads with whip cream marshmallows and sauce, now you see a simple bowl of fresh mixed fruit. Yay!!!!

Hugs to you,

Hattie

Goal 1000 fitness minutes/month!

I may not be to the finish line yet--but at least I am in the race!

A healthy me is up to ME!!!!!

Lesscupcakes you should focus on the things that you did right, instead of focusing on all you ate. If you tracked your food, that is great! Being able to see what choices you made so you can look back and make different choices next time is important. Also keep in mind that a pound is 3500 calories. You probably didn't eat that much really. If the scale reflects more than you ate, it might be water weight due to the high sodium in processed foods. Might even be better to wait a few days to weigh yourself so you get a realistic idea of what damage you really did. Just for sure don't dwell on the mistake because you're more likely to feel bad and eat more. I tell myself "oh well" and move on when stuff like that happens.

I ate so much yesterday :(. I hope I didn't forget to track anything. Its a new day I am afraid to get on the scale. My daughter goes to school in another town so I have not seen her since I lost about 20pds. Yesterday she she said mom you lost weight, you lost like alot of weight. It made me really happy. I just feel like I went way over on food yesterday.I must keep going im sure I didn't put back on 50 pds in one day. Hope everyone had a good Easter.

YEs it is a snowball method, but the setup is different than most. Here is how it works;
First make a list of each of your debts with the amount that is owed, and the minimum payment.
Then for each debt divide the amount owed by the minimum payment. Then after you have done that for each debt. Put your debts in order starting with the one with the lowest number of payments. That is you bite/payoff order. SO any extra money goes toward #1 on your list, while still making the minimum payment on the rest. Then once you pay the first one off, the payment for number one gets rolled into the #2, and so on until all of them are payed. You are making the same amount of payment each month, it just gets rolled into the next debt.

I went through and setup a payment plan with EVERY DEBT we had medical, collections, all of it. I made payment arrangements where needed but, I will be debt free. It will require a bit of dedication, but my hubby and I are doing it together.

Goal 1000 fitness minutes/month!

I may not be to the finish line yet--but at least I am in the race!

I resisted getting my taxes done by a professional for years. The last couple years I got my taxes done and it was totally worth the money- less money but less stress and time also.

I'll have to check out the debt buster program you mentioned. It's depressing to think of all the money in interest payments could be in a saving account if you could just eliminate debt. Good luck on the program! Is the program a debt snowball type of plan?

Ughhhh, I wish you could burn more calories by using your brain. I literally sat for almost 8 hours doing taxes and budget work. I have a monster headache, and am super bumbed I didn't make it to the gym. But I got to a point where I just wanted to be done. I am 95% done, looking forward to being completely done by this Friday. I have to say I am excited though about the new Debt Buster program I started, looking forward to being debt free. It will take 5 years to be completely debt free--school loans--but I will get there, and having a plan makes a huge difference.

Hi Gang!!!

I have to say I LOVE tortilla pizzas, we do them a lot for lunch. I have found a 100 calorie tortilla at Dollar Tree of all places. I put on a little olive oil, tomatoes 1/4 mozz cheese, and italian seasoning. Then I have either a bowl of fresh veggies, or salad on the side. We do this for lunch a LOT since I home-school. It's quick, easy and yummy=)

No movement on the scale for me this week, but I expected as much. I hosted a baby shower yesterday, complete with cream cheese mints and chocolate dipped strawberries.. We also had little deli sandwhiches, veggie cups, and fresh fruit. Along with spinach dip and potato chips, and cupcakes. It wasn't too horrible but between the punch and the mints, I am sure I overdid it. Oh Well, it was fun, and totally worth the splurge.

I am already back on track today, have already done a 15 minute walk with the puppies, and had a healthy breakfast. I also planned out all my dinners for the next two weeks last Friday, and shopped for all of them, so I have it all on hand. Other than a milk/fruit run, I won't have to go to the store for 2 weeks. I am thinking I may just send my hubby, as I can't resist the bakery goods=)

This week I am dealing with a sensitive tooth, I need a root canal--I did go to the dentist---but they don't have any opening until May!!!!!!!!!!! I am on a call list in case someone cancels. This has been really hard, as I can't eat/drink anything too cold. this morning I even microwaved my fruit, and am drinking luke warm water--yuck! But it is the only way I can possible get my water in.

Goal 1000 fitness minutes/month!

Nikki: i will have to give that a try. I usually just use a wheat pizza and that takes care of everyone in the house. Last pizza I made I created my own pesto sauce and topped with red onions, mushrooms, roma tomato and black olives. It was soooo freeking good.

Mizzfit, a friend just told me about pizza on tortillas, and they are DIVINE. And so much better for you than regular pizza! Just heat up a tortilla on a cookie pan under the broiler until it's a little crunchy, 1-2 minutes, then top like a pizza. I used some spaghetti sauce that was open, measured out my cheese, then some turkey pepperoni, onions and banana peppers. Then pop back under the broiler for another 5 or so minutes. The best part is everyone can decorate the way they want, so for seconds I added more veggies and less cheese. So good!

I did gain this week, but it's nobody's fault but my own. I have already been better about food and exercising, and I'm determined to show a loss next
Friday!

Nicki: I want to say time for a new scale. I decided this week what ever the scale says the first time to stick with it.
My scale when I step on it will say the same thing twice but that third time it jumps either a pound up or down. I have no clue if it is how I step or where I step on it.
Have you tried difference recipes to make? I know if I'm eating the same type of thing it get boring. I chance up my menu to fit things I want to eat for that week and find healthy verisions so I don't get tempted to have a bad week.
Only thing I miss is a nice big juicy hamburger that has onion (grilled), thousand island dressing and cheese. mmmmm
Turkey burger comes close but not quite the same. Lean beef is the closes I can get to healthy on this but it is more pricy.

*note to self, burgers on the menu this week. emoticon

Karri: I feel the same way. Sick, not eating much and when I ate eatting badly. I'm not expecting much with weigh in tomorrow.

I'm nervous about weigh in tomorrow too. I've been exercising a lot (yay, spring!) but I have also been eating a lot and not always making the best choices. If I don't lose or stay the same, this will be the first time with two weeks gaining. I'm worried that two months into this weight loss epic, I'm getting tired of being the one on the diet. I've been out of sorts this week and just cranky in general. I tried to push that into exercising, but I also reached for some old comfort foods. Oh well! We'll see tomorrow, I guess.

My weigh-in is at 5:15 this evening and I, too, am dreading it! I know that I did my best as far as eating has gone. That's where I am at: what goes in my mouth and is not burned by exercise, shows on the scale!

I'm kind of dreading weigh in tomorrow because I haven't eaten great and I'm feeling all out of whack with this terrible head cold. But I'm also looking at it as an opportunity to really start over no matter what the scale says.

Welcome DEERIKA!!!!

I have to say I know all about 'draw' weeks. I ended up getting a new scale, and that has made all the difference.

So I know I talked about changing my calories to 1450 daily--but I will only be doing it twice a week, as I think it is too little calories for my activity level.

On another note--I just tried PB2--powdered PB, found it at Walmart, sooooo good. I will be totally adding it to my shakes in the morning, and I am going to try a few recipes with it too.

Have a great day all!

hey guys, new here but lost 100 pounds before, I am learning not to depend on the scale so much as to what my body is telling me. I have a so called bad thyroid but do not take the medication and managed to lose 7 pounds the first week, I still look at it, but avoid doing the judging me off of it because I know the work I put in will pay off, I just do not pay too much attention to the numbers each week. I like to look at monthly more than weekly, it will save you a whole lot of heart ache. I weigh every week but the number that matters is the monthly one to me so if i lose 6 pounds, that is 6 pounds I know I can say goodbye to. hope this helps .

Last Friday I got on the scale and it said 248 which was a shock because I'd been pretty bad with the snacking...so I got on it again and it said 253...then I was horrified so I tried it a third time and it said 251, which is what it was last week. I think I muttered something like "let's call this week a draw" and slunk off to record "no change." And that was in the span of 5 minutes!

As we can tell by the responses, scale habits vary from person to person. But if I can offer any advice..if your not sure where you fall on the scale habits, try something different for a few days.
Hopefully you will find a system that works best for you.

Great day on the scale for me, 243.6 a number I haven't seen in quite a while.

So after review of my weights and eating/exercise habits these last 2 months, I have decided to move my calorie count from 1600 to 1450 for the month of April I think I will have quicker results. Then I will reevaluate May 1st.

Have a great day all!
