I think I found my magic cure too!!! (do you remember me from 3 years ago?)

I am either very good or very bad. I can have a week of eating healthy, then have a steak, baked potato and martini for dinner, and it all goes downhill. I wake up the next morning insatiably hungry, then by the time I get my kids off at school my hunger and cravings are out of control, and I either head for donuts (plural) and a large coke, or Sonic french toast and a large coke. Then chocolate, icecream and other junk the rest of the day. I wake up the following morning with similar cravings and repeat, in a cycle that may last 1 or 2 weeks.

I discovered that if I drink one of those Special K protein shakes in the car with the kids, the hunger goes away, as do the cravings. Twice in my life have I been able to ignore my cravings, so this is life changing for me!!!

Yeah, I'm not doing the Atkins. Its too extreme for me! I eat lean protein with a good fat (usually almonds or peanut butter) at most meals or I have good veggie carbs with my protein. Like lunch today included Tilapia with lobster stuffing (took the stuffing part out) and cauliflower mashed potatoes and green beans! (That's at Ruby Tuesdays if anyone is interested!) It was really good!!! I can stick to this plan because I'm eating foods that I love and not missing the bread, pasta, and other refined carbs and sugar! Plus, I stay full longer and don't get as hungry as I used to when I ate a lot of carbs. It hasn't even affected my workouts! I ran 11.3 miles last night on the local greenway!!! emoticon

Hey, WOW, AWESOME!!

I'm a low carber myself--there are many teams out here for the low carb lifestyle (some more active than others; do a search and browse through them). It's just another resource to check out... packed with good information and yummy recipes.

I used to do Atkins in the 90s but have found it's too strict for me. So I'm doing sort of a hybrid deal so it's more palatable to LIFE (instead of crash diet). Nevertheless and no matter what plan, watching those carbs seem to make all the difference to many of us.

(I have trouble with craving naughty stuff when I don't keep my insulin levels stable--cutting out all the white stuff seems to keep them level enough.)

I'm so excited for your success! WAY TO GO!!!

Jen

Hey all!!!

Well, as you know, last week, I was feeling pretty depressed because I weighed myself and was 150 pounds and bloated and miserable! So, last friday I started a new 12 week regimen, which re-vamps my diet and shakes up my workout routine. Well, it involves eating lower carb, higher "good" fats and more protein. Over the weekend, I was out of town visiting family, so I know I went over my caloric restrictions, but I stuck to my plan. The only deviation that I made was to have about 8 ounces of a Tangera (I know I spelled that wrong) gin and tonic, but other than that, I stayed true to the low-carb and I allow myself as much unsweet tea with equal and diet soda as I want to keep me sane and of course, lots of water! My hip felt so much better, so I ran 8 miles both Saturday and Sunday (so 16 miles total).

I got on the scale this morning and, (yes....I realize this amount probably involves mostly factors related to the bloat and water retention) but I lost over 10 pounds over the weekend!!! That's HUGE!!!!! I had to step off and on the scale like 5 times before I would accept that was the true number!!! So, needless to say, I am on cloud nine today! I think I can stick to watching my carbs and cheat every once and a while and this might be the answer I have been looking for as far as why I stayed bloated all the time. Maybe low-carb is what I needed! So, I'm gonna stick with getting my carbs from high fiber veggies like broccoli, spinach and other greens. Soooo....wish me luck!!!! I think this is the start to a new me!!! emoticon emoticon
