I joined a gym a couple weeks ago and the trainer there told me that for workout days, I should drink 1 oz of water per pound of body weight. I did the math and that works out to 35 cups of water a day--kind of crazy! I have 7 water bottles in my fridge that I refill and I'm working really hard to drink them all every day. I still haven't done that many times, but because they're there and refreshing and ready, I AM drinking more.
I learned my lesson about hydration the hard way yesterday. I'd only had about 4 cups of water, took two 24 oz bottles with me to the gym and about half way through my gym's circuit (it's tough!! cardio + strength = ow!) I started to get dizzy, feel nauseated, and my muscles started to shake. My heart rate got up alarmingly high and I had to go home early. It took a good hour of drinking water & laying on the floor for me to not feel sick any more.
Water is a good thing.
