I am diabetic and I have been drinking propel when I work out and Im having good success losing but I took a closer look at the ingredients of the propel and I see that sodium is a main ingredient . Is That enough to make me retain fluid weight . If so tho I prefer flavored water , should I just drink purified or spring water to eliminate the sodium intake . I am no scientist , I just want Help and not to hinder myself from my maxium potential loss

While I don't hate water I certainly am a juice addict. Something I recently found... and love... is Cascade Ice. There aremany flavors to choose from and many have 0 calories, 0 sodium, 0 sugar, 0 carbs, etc. They are 1% juice (meaning 99% water), don't have aspartame, and only have about 5 ingredients. They're great! You should give them a try (I buy them at Albertsons)!

Oh, and I'd guess Propel is at least 99%, if not closer to 99.9%, water anyway, so count it up. I think it's basically just water and some B vitamins, isn't it? That the addition of vitamins would transform water into not-water doesn't make sense to me. The same is true for coffee, soda, gatorade, and tea. They're all MADE with water.

Water is the best of course, but if you don't like water, I think anything that gets you more fluids is better than nothing. According to the Mayo Clinic, actually, soda and coffee are just as good as water when it comes to hydrating your body (http://www.mayoclinic.com/health/caffeina
ted-drinks/AN01661). My guess is as long as Propel doesn't have coffee-level amounts of caffeine, and as long as you're not drinking 7 cups of it every day, you're good to go with the Propel.

Since water is better though, and way cheaper--I don't know how you afford all that Propel--you might want to start thinking about decreasing the amount of Propel you drink and increasing the amount of water. It doesn't have to be plain water either. Try adding lime or lemon or even watermelon to your water for some flavor.

In the meantime, I think Propel should count. And tea too for that matter.

I know exactly what you mean! I used to be the exact same way but it was a habit that was broken...

I had success by finding a "way" that I like to drink water. I have to drink it straight from a Brita Pitcher we keep in the fridge. Have you tried to drink water in different ways? With ice, no ice, straight from the fridge, with lemon or lime?

What about seltzer water? It's water with carbonation in it. When I want something special, I drink those now. It's sugar-free and has no artificial sweeteners in it (I don't like those either). You can even purchase kitchen appliances to make your own seltzer water! Best investment ever.

Wow, guys! I really had no idea about propel being like that. That is definitely something I'll remember and keep in mind!

I know there is no absolute substitute for water but I find myself literally disgusted with the idea of drinking it. Its much like a kid drinking that medicine that they KNOW tastes bad.. even if it will make them feel better. I'm like that stubborn child that doesn't want to take it cause of that.

If anyone could give me the best and safest alternative, I would really appreciate it!

I have to agree that Propel shouldn't count as water. I'm not even sure if Crystal Light should count, but its a lot closer to real water than Propel or Gatorade. I would say there's nothing wrong with mixing up what you drink just to give you variety but there really is no substitute for water. I've heard of people watering down juice or gatorade so they get some water but have flavor in it, I think that could be a solution worth thinking about. I usually just put lemons, oranges or berries in my water when I get sick of drinking it plain.

With all the garbage that is in Propel, I wouldn't count it at water. I probably wouldn't count any Gatorade product for that matter.

What you can do though is buy the little "Sugar Free" drink powders that you add to water. When I am getting tired of just water, I usually drink on eof the Hawaiin Punch ones. I also drink ReHydrate from AdvoCare after I workout and Spark in the mornings.

Water is tricky.

The problem with those other drinks is the calories, sugar, and sodium (I'm not sure about the sodium in propel but I know lipton teas have it..)

Sodium makes you dehydrated so it works to cancel out the hydration you get from the drink.

If you want to know if those things are working to keep you hydrated, a good test is when you're taking a bath, washing dishes, etc... If your hands are pruney, you're dehydrated (your skin gets pruney because it is trying to reach a state of equilibrium with the water you're submerged in, in other words, it's a visual way that your body is telling you it needs more water.)

I've always wondered what exactly counted as water. I love Lipton's Diet Green Tea but I never know if I can count that towards my water intake for the day.

Propel would be my second favorite! :)

I don't know the official answer, but I've always figured that it counts. It does add calories (though not many), but my general rule of thumb for whether to count something towards my water intake is that it's not carbonated or caffeinated :) (Though I think some carbonated beverages might count? I just try to avoid them anyhow if I can).

Here I go again with another question! Sooo... when it comes down to drinking water, I absolutely hate it... and struggle so badly with it.

I love propel, though... is it safe to say I'm drinking my daily water intake if I am drinking propel water instead?
