I would have considered myself skinny in high school (size 2-4 at 5'5). I gained 20 lbs in one semester in college ending up around a size 12. Then I lost weight for my wedding... not skinny, but healthy at size 8. Now I am back at 12-14... yuck!! What I wouldn't give to look like I did even at a size 8!!!

Never been skinny! I've been reasonably healthy during highschool but even then I was hovering around a size 12-14 and probably a little chubbier than I could have been, but I ran, played basketball and ate alright.

That's why this is so exciting, I've never been there before, so I think the whole thing will feel surreal when I'm finally at my goal weight. That said, "skinny" isn't my goal. Being healthy and toned is!

I just came to the conclusion that I was never skinny. I came across some old pics from when I was about 8 and i was always a lil chunkier than what i was supposed to be so i know now that I was always a lil thick but never skinny. My dream to be this lil skinny chick is not gonna happen but I can be healthier and tone up.

Just call me BEAD DIVA baby.

Back in high school I was always a size 0 or 2. I was on the swim team, so working out wasn't a choice or something I ever had to think about since it happened every day anyway. Now 3 years later, I've moved to a new city and started a desk job. I don't really know anyone here my age (since I'm not currently in college) and its hard to find motivation to do anything, especially after a 9 hour workday. My weight in high school was always between 105 and 115 (and like a lot of people on here, I also thought I was heavy then). Now at 145 on a 5"2 frame it doesn't look or feel very good. It's been snowing and cold lately but hopefully once it warms up some, I'll find some kind of motivation to get up and do more than just some cardio on the elliptical and treadmill at the gym at my apartments.

You know, growing up I compared myself to everyone and to them, No! I was bigger than them, but I was never what most viewed as overweight. I'm still not, but knowing that I look and feel the most unhealthy I've ever felt in my life... well, it makes me feel sad. More sad than knowing that I was never as skinny as the people I've surrounded myself with.

I was always on the small side as a kid (did swimming in the Summer and was really active) and then when I hit my middle school/ teen years I gained weight. I was never really called "fat" though and looking back at those years, it's a bit strange to me that I didn't. I got my first job at a Sonic Drive-In at age 18 and started carhopping on skates. As I got better at it, my manager would call me in on my days off and give me extra shifts. I lost 20 lbs (140 to 120) realllly quickly. I gained it all back though after I stopped working there and moved back in with my parents. I lost it all again, though, after I had my daughter, and got down to 115.

I gained it all back though 'cuz I started working as a server in a Mexican restaurant (you try working all day and not chowing down on chips & salsa lol) - which is also where I met my current boyfriend and he eats the equivalent of 2 cows and a small dog at any given meal without gaining weight. Sooo I'm back to square 1! haha

I was the tall string bean all growing up! I got to college and nothing really changed until the end of my senior year. Then when I moved to start my first new job, I was broke, living on my own and just trying to get by. I then picked up a LOT of bad habits, from eating to fitness to everything! I gained 40-50 pounds. I never gained that freshman 15-20 lbs, it was the after college weight.

Now I am just trying to get healthy again and I am on the right track, I just need to keep it up!

I was one of those super-skinny chicks who could eat whatever I wanted (my claim to fame as a kid was that I could eat an entire large pizza by myself in one sitting--now I shudder at the thought!) and never exercised at all. Never weighed over 120 in high school, even though I was 5'9"...If anything I was too thin. I gained some weight in college, but stayed under 135. (Size 6)

All of a sudden when I hit 23 or so the weight started creeping up on me. Surely no coincidence that this was around the time I got my first secretarial job and began graduate school. Then one day I found myself 50 pounds heavier. I had no idea what to do, because I had never dieted or exercised before. It sounds nuts, but it really did seem as though the weight gain happened before I even knew what was going on...how can someone gain that much weight in a single year?!

I lost 30 pounds 2 years ago by walking/dieting...but I still didn't know how to exercise or eat right. I just cut calories drastically. Sadly, I have gained most of that weight back.

I'm hopeful that with SP I can finally learn healthy habits...ones that I can stick with for the rest of my life.

Yes I was very thin as a teen 100-107 lbs at my heaviest then I had my son in 2000 and I have been struggling with my weight ever since although I dont want to be 100 lbs again I am working hard to get ride of these 35-40 lbs that hang around like a rain cloud year after year. I have done atkins a few times and obviously the weight comes back because here I am I pray SP can help me too.

It's kind of funny to think I used to be thin and thought I was huge at the time. In high school I was 140lbs but when I got to college the freshman 15 kicked my butt. Cramming for exams, studying like crazy, and horrible food options on campus doomed me.By the time I graduated I was up to 170lbs and then followed that with a bad marriage. When I was finally done putting on weight I was at 199lbs on a 5'4 frame. I didn't know how big I had gotten until my dad took a picture of me and my sister. I freaked out and started to work to get the weight off.

My entire life I was always a little bigger than the rest. Then my senior year of high school I dropped weight...fast - without trying! A teacher actually accused me of being annorexic - completely the opposite, I still ate a ton and kept dropping. Then I put a little on through college and then lost again before my wedding - again not really trying. So now that I am 40 pounds heavier I am trying to lose and can't. The frustrating thing is I've lost before but I don't know how it happened.

nope. I was always a little on the chubby side, then college hit. Too many hours playing video games and cramming for tests. It's hard to say no to those midnight runs to the 7eleven for an ice cream study break!

I was a ballerina, not the tiniest of ballerinas but still very small in the general population. The weirdest part about gaining weight since that point in my life is not recognizing myself in the mirror anymore. The sad thing was that I thought I was huge and fat when I fit a size 6. Now I know better and wish for the day that I might even fit a size 10 or an 8 again

I was pretty average as a child, but as I teenager I began to pack on the pounds. I've lost some weight twice before, but always gained it back plus some. I think the last time I was near my goal weight was when I was 13-14! I get excited imagining looking like that again, even if I thought I was on the bigger side even then!

Nope! I'd always always been the fat girl - even in my family. I think my parents first started taking me to the doctor to get "The lecture" when I was in the fourth grade, so 11?

Yeah, THAT'll do a lot for your bruised prepubescent ego, lemmee tell ya!

It was amazing reading everyone's replies! It's sad to see how many people have always been overweight, even as kids.

It's the same for me. I've never been a normal weight, let alone skinny. I was always the fat kid. I ate emotionally because I had a hard life back then, and food was our only luxury because I grew up very poor. At about age 17 or 18, I had ballooned to 270 (I'm 5'8), and decided that was enough. That's when I first met my future husband, so I wanted to lose some for him! I lost about 50 pounds in a year, and I was feeling great! But then I pretty much stalled for the next six or seven years.

I'm really curious to see what I look like at a normal, healthy weight. I bet I'm beautiful!

My nickname used to be "Tennessee Slim" by my uncles whenever I would visit them in Kentucky. My parents would get mad at me for not eating and I remember sitting at the dinner table for hours as a kid because I wouldn't finish my meal. Then, around age 11 is when I gained all my weight. I was up to 250 before deciding I have had enough. At age 23 I lost 50 lbs. Now at age 25, I want to lose an additional 20 lbs to reach my ideal weight...seems a lot tougher this time around :(

I had been really skinny most of my life (I used to wear long sleeved shirts because i thought my elbows were too boney).. up until I hit puberty (is that a correct term for girls?). Thats when the metabolism dropped, weight started adding on and I really really miss the days when I was thought of the skinny, tall girl. That's why losing weight is so hard for me.. its a new challenge. But i'm positive it'll work out! :)

I thought I was always 'over weight' all my life but recently was looking through old pictures and was shocked to find one where I was actually skinny! I don't even remember it, I was around 10 that time and spent a lot of my time outside playing. Gained weight because I discovered computers when I was 11 and spent ALL my time on it along with eating a lot of junk food... and to this day still the same habit that I am trying to break out of now.

I remember buying two pairs of size 6 pants in high school at the end of my senior year. I used to think I was heavy because all my friends were size 0s, 2s and 4s. I doubt I'll ever get back into size 6s with my hips after having a baby but here's a picture that I keep on my desk that reminds me of those days. I think I should put it up on SP for some motivation.

Growing up and in high school I never had to worry about how much I ate or exercised, I was always thin but didn't appreciate it (about 120-130 lbs at 5'7"). Then when I got to college I just slowly gained weight and didn't really even realize because it wasn't something I worried about, until it was too late and I gained 30lbs. I feel like every time I go shopping I have to go up a pant size. Now I'm a senior in college and want to be thinner again, and SP has REALLY helped motivate me!

In middle school i was slightly over weight and the mean kids made fun of my for it. I took gymnastics but the second half of my 8th grade year the tennis team needed people so I joined them as well and took gymnastics and tennis that year and lost alot of weight. I kept most of it all through high school, even the years that I didn't do any physical activity classes. The LEAST I ever weighed, was when I stupidly decided to try to go into the Marine Corp. I think the lowest I got was 112lbs on my 5' flat frame.

But after having 2 kids and working at a fast food joint...I gained the weight and didn't really realize it. I took a hard look at myself the beginning of this year, as did my husband, and we both are trying to lose weight. I've changed my diet, am eating healthier and counting calories, plus going to the gym several times a week. I don't want to get back down to my boot camp weight. That requires almost constant physical training for me which I don't have the time for but getting within a healthy bmi is what I want.

I remember being about a size 8/10 in pants during high school and into college. I always wanted to be at a 6, but I was active by being on the swimming so I'd say I was average. My aunt however used to be a 0, and has never been above a 4 as far as I know. I always wanted to be as skinny as her, but unfortunately I inherited a "big butt" from my mom. Unfortunately, due to medicine, I haven't been in jeans those size for 4 years, but my goal is to drop back down to that nice weight. What depresses me most about my weight now is that I weigh more than my mom :(

I used to be thin, fit...but I had an eating disorder so I felt fat.

In fact, when I was fit (which is my goal weight now) I felt obese. Then due to circumstances, I started to put on weight but I felt more beautiful because I have a wonderful boy who made me FEEL beautiful/thin. At christmas, people kept saying "You've really put on weight..." and I looked down and went "Damn, I guess I have!"

So now is the downswing where I keep the feeling beautiful and lose the extra poundage.

I wouldn't say that I was ever "skinny". I know that I've never felt skinny. But looking back on pictures of myself in high school, I wasn't nearly as heavy as I thought I was. I was probably average. I've always had big boobs and I think this contributed to me having a slightly skewed self perception.

I always go from really skinny to really big. I was small for my size as a kid until middle school and I was one of the biggest kids in the class. Then in high school I worked out like 6 days a week for cheerleading and ended up being 94lbs, even being 5'1 it was way too small for my med. sized frame. Then I started gaining when my boyfriend joined the military and I slowly went up until we got married then gained a good 20 lbs. So hopefully I can drop the weight at a nice slow rate to keep it off and just tone after than so I don't go too far the other way. I mean I don't like the way some people look at me for being overweight, but being looked at for being too skinny I think was pretty bad too.

I've never been skinny, but there was definitely a time when I was more comfortable with my weight. After high school I was a size 10 and around 145, but soon after the weight started creeping on. Since then I've fluctuated a bit between 180 and 205. I'm hoping to get back down to a size 10 and would be ecstatic to get down to a size or two below that.

I was always the "thin" one of my friends while I was in HS. I wore a size 2-4 (depending on the brand), ate whatever I wanted and wasn't exercising at all. As soon as I had kids that all changed. Lowest I've been since having them is a size 8, and that's what I'm shooting for again now.

I have to agree with FreeBraveGrrl. haha
When I was a senior in high school, I was *definitely* skinny, but I also wore a size 10. haha. I just have large hips. I was 118 lbs (at 5'2") and had been shooting for 115, but decided there was no more weight to lose. I knew I would look sickly if I lost any more than that. (I was starting to already, my collar bones were *very* defined.) There was a *teeny* bit of flab on my inner thighs, but really, I'm pretty sure they just needed toning.
I was chubby in middle school, but I was just barely outside of my BMI. It was enough to make me work on it tho, hence getting to the point of my junior and senior years.
I got married just before turning 20, and I was in college and working a part time job, and during that time I put on around 20 lbs (up to the top of my BMI) and for the next couple of years I guess I kept gaining. I've been in the mid 150's for around 7 years now. I of course gained weight with my two children, but each time I only gained between 20 and 30 lbs like you're supposed to and it always came right off. I just haven't been able to break out of the 150's yet! This time I'm going to do it!

I thought I was big in HS but it turns out I had an ideal weight. But there was like 6 months my Jr yr of college that was skinny and felt great. And then it fell apart. But I'm working on getting there again. This time in a healthier way.

All through high school I was very thin, never more than a size 6. I was very active due to being in ROTC so I didn't really gain weight. It wasn't until after I graduated and went to Culinary school and then continued to work as a pastry chef that I really started gaining weight. I am now up to a size 12 and at 5'4 177 pounds is alot.

I've had my chubby stages in middle school, but then high school came along and I lost it all. I could eat anything I wanted and not gain an ounce. Senior year I dated a guy who told me I "needed to lose 10 lbs" even though I never weighed above 110. SO began the eating disorder. I got down to 95 lbs and was too stupid to see my mistakes. In college I started to gain a little weight, but lost the loser boyfriend. I was healthy all the way until I graduated. Then my wonderful fiance moved to Florida, so of course I followed and because we were apart for 10 months we ate out every night, drank with friends, and honestly just got comfortable. Which leads me to where I am today! :) Good luck with all the losing and doing it in a HEALTHY way!

I've never had to worry about my weight. All through high school I was never over 125. Starting my senior year I was even 114. It wasn't until after I graduated and started working full time and going to school full time that I started getting stressed and that led to me gaining weight. I've never been overweight before and never had to work at losing it so this has been pretty hard for me.

I have been skinny a few times. Because I'm so short 180 is a lot of weight for me. At my largest I was pushing 200 and at 5'6 that is a lot. I was always skinny growing up. In high school I never was more than 140 and had a 28 inch waste. Then I lived in France for a while and gorged on pastries and cheese and gained 40 pounds. I came back to the US and worked at a bakery and lost all my weight and got back to 145. Then I injured my back and got a desk job and gained back all the weight I have lost. Now getting up to as much as I was I want to get back to 145ish. Just by changing my diet I lost 16-17 pounds before I started Sparkpeople. Being healthy is pretty much my goal.

Up until college I was in the healthy weight bracket (~170lbs at 6 feet tall) but I always thought of myself as vastly overweight. I've always had a bit of a protruding stomach, which made me feel a lot fatter than I was. I gained quite a bit of weight in college, and was up to 228 in my junior year. I think part of it was I had a boyfriend who was seriously overweight, so it didn't bother me when I started putting on pounds. Anyway, I broke up with that boyfriend, went to China for study abroad my junior year, lost about 15lbs, and have stayed there ever since. Even now though people tell me I don't look overweight, probably because I'm so tall. Now I'm trying very hard to get back to my high school weight! It's going slower than I'd like, probably because of this annoying thyroid problem. But at least I'm trying, and living a healthy life is more important to me than wearing a size 12 :)

Success is a frame of mind. I am successful because I decide to be so!

When I was 13, I was 130lbs.. which was the closest to a healthy weight I've ever been. Then I slowly gained weight throughout high school. I stayed about the same weight throughout college. I lost about 20lbs naturally in 2004 when I was studying abroad but the weight came back and now I'm in the 180's.

I was always skinny in high school. I weighed between 115-120lbs. I was in sports and very active. That all changed when I had my first child. Now when I lose weight instead of me celebrating the pounds lost I just think of all the weight I still have to lose to get back my body. I have been working on my way of thinking so that I stay positive and reward myself for every positive step I make in the right direction. I need to love my body every step of this journey.

I'll be one of the few guys to post in this thread....

I was probably around 180 in college until I studied in England (2002) and lost around 25 pounds in 12 weeks without trying. The got serious in the spring of 2007 and was down to around 145. Buying a house, losing my father-in-law, having a baby with my wife, just not paying attention, etc. and I was up to 202 at to doctor on Jan. 28.

Now I'm really serious, down to 189.5 and determined to surprise the doctor when I go back in May. This site is a huge help!

I have never been skinny. The closest I came to feeling great was when I was 19 - I was a muscular 148 for almost 9 months. It felt awesome, so I have no idea why I've been fluctuating with my weight my whole life losing and gaining the same 40 lbs over and over again. Hoping I fall into this lifestyle change so I can get to my goal weight and stay there!

I was never what most people would consider skinny. My lowest weight during my teenage years was 150-155 and I thought I was still too big. This was after I had lost about 20 pounds. I never got below 150. When I compared myself to other girls my age, yes I felt overweight. Now that I look at photos I wish I had realized I looked really good!

I know how you feel about working out by yourself... It is so much harder when you have to do it alone! I'll be motivates about a week, then the next week I'm "off the wagon", so to speak!! Just know that you cam do it!! Just give yourself that kick in the pants.. But I am here if you need someone to talk to for motivation!!

I was always in great shape until I hit college. The freshman ten (instead of 15) turned into the sophomore five, the junior five, and I'd say I've probably continued to gain around 3-4 pounds a year. Now here I am, at 28, with quite a bit of extra baggage to lose. I've got the opposite issue as some of you. I guess you could say I've always thought of myself as thin, but then I look at pictures of myself and just groan. Once I lose the rest of this weight (five pounds lost last summer, 6 last month!), I'm determined that I will not let my weight creep up on me again. I've developed a lifetime of bad habits that I must break before I pass them down to my daughter.

Everyone always told me how skinny I was, but never thought I was. About 4 years ago I realized I needed to do something. I was hovering around 180 pounds, which is in the obese range for my height 5'8". So I worked out with one of my friends and in about a year I lost 15 pounds and felt great about myself for the first time in a long time. I was toned and fit into my first pair of Silver Jeans. Then a divorce, a child and 3 years later, I'm back where I started, and feel a whole lot chunkier. I don't have anyone I can workout with any more and that's the hardest part for me because I can't motivate myself.

I think there were a few years in high school when I was really active in sports (I played basketball and soccer) that were my 'skinniest' times. However, I was around 160lbs then and I'm 'supposed' to be closer to 145-150 so I guess the answer is no.

I don't even know what I would look like at 150 but I would really like to find out! :)

I was really skinny was I was real young, but since I've been a teenager or adult I've struggled with it. I've never been obese but I'm big enough to be overweight. I am hoping I can get skinny and be happy and comfortable with my body sometime soon! Good luck to you as well!

I was down to 149 last year but somehow through school, kids and life I gained more back than I started with lol 178 but I have made a life decision to change things and I have lost 10 lbs in 3 weeks... I can only keep going!

During my senior year of high school and college I thought I was overweight at 150-160. Wow...what I'd give to weight that now. While I bet I could have weighed less then, but I have a battle to get back there.

In high school I use to have an amazing stomach! I miss that so much. I use to be a size 4-6 throughout high school and college. However, I have always had thick thighs and curvy hips - so never really "skinny". Just a good upper half :-) I am really hoping to stick with this and start shrinking the bottom half and get my stomach back!
Good luck to all of you!

Nope! I've had "skinny for me" sort of times - but I was still very overweight then... Probably still considered "obese."

But, I'm feeling skinnier everyday!! :) That has to count for something!

I was very athletic throughout high school. 6 years of cheerleading and 2 years on the wrestling team.. I was 103 lbs. (sz 3) and I got pregnant with my daughter @ 17. I gained almost 90 lbs. with her and never got below 150, again. I was back up into the high 180's 4 months ago when my second daughter was born. Now, I'm a full-time mommy/student, wife, stepmother, cook, housekeeper, laundromat, therapist, jungle gym, etc. and am struggling to find time to fit a workout in. Struggling, but making it work :)

I really feel the whole idea of what is considered "skinny" is subjective, meaning some people feel a size 6 is not skinny and I would be crying and calling my mom to celebrate if I ever saw that size. That being said, I was the quintessential funny girl with a great face...and it stopped there. Now that I am older, I feel grateful for knowing what it feels like to be a 'bigger' girl as it allowed me the opportunity to really empathize with so many and to overcome so much. Nothing is more gratifying then really earning then winning back your body!

I was always skinny.. In high school I weighed no more than 110lbs.. Throughout the rest of my teens, 18-19 & up until I was 21 I was in the mid 120's... I then had 2 little boys in 2 years. With the 1st I gained about 55lbs, lost 30 afterward. 7 months later was preggo again, started at 152, gained 37lbs.. I was breastfeedimg so I dropped weight pretty quickly, got down to 166... Now, I'm 185 or so.. I just want to be 130 again! :)

Hi Ladies~
I was thin throughout high school and most of college (120-130). Granted, at the time I was spending 3-4 hours in the pool every day.

Then a desk job and bad habits ( vending machines are FREE at work! :( ) have gotten me to where I am now.

Love you, Love first.

I have always been a bit chubby. Never quite FAT but not where I needed to be either. In some ways I have always had the same body type, that "love handle" around my hips area and problematic thighs... it just stayed with me as I've gotten older. I have done the bouncing yo yo thing dieting wise but I've never stuck with it long enough to see what I would look like at my ideal weight. Can't wait to find out!

I never thought I was skinny... always had a bit too much chub on my thighs and belly. But looking back, in high school and early college, I was in decent shape. If I'd spent a few months hitting the gym and cleaning up my diet, I would have looked just about perfect. But alas, I didn't realize back then how easy it would have been!

Hi girls. :) I was skinny (120 lbs)for about a year in college. My "meals" consisted of jello and beer. Somehow I found the time to exercise for hours a day. Totally unhealthy!! Ironically, everyone thought I looked great.

I've always been in the overweight range. I know that the last time that I was somewhere around my goal weight was when I was around 13 years old and then it would have been too large a weight.

I've also never been model-thin. I'm just not built that way. At my smallest (around 16-17) I was 125, and everyone told me I looked like I was starving. So yeah. I was also really unhealthy then (just goes to show that just because you're skinny doesn't mean your healthy). I was living on a diet of Mt. dew and candy, instead of eating REAL food.

Not skinny, per se, but felt good about my body (middle of college).

I was at a healthy weight in college, but have been "dieting" as long as I can remember!

I know what you mean. Each time I hit a new weight bracket (190's, 170's, 150's, etc.), I can't remember ever having been that weight before. I know I must have passed through all these pounds at some point, but I honestly can't remember when.
To me, it's always been this way. I've always weighed over 200 pounds. Even now, I struggle with seeing myself as I actually appear to others. The only way I can is to look at current pictures. They always surprise me. In a nice way. emoticon

I have always been overweight, so getting smaller rather than larger is a brand new feeling for me...

So how many of you have been skinny before?

And how many of you have always been overweight, like me?
