Whoohooey Christine! When we lived in one of the country's most friendly bike communities (Palo Alto, CA) I LOVED it and rode my bike to/from the YMCA (7 miles ), Whole Foods, Trader Joes, my weekly doctor appt. at Stanford University etc.) The year we lived there I put less than 1,000 on my car! We recently moved to a MORE walkable/cyclable community and I am hoping to do more and more of that. My husband is concerned and thinking of buying me a moped. The bike is better exercise!!!!!

Otherwise, I try to stack errands/shopping and conserve gas!

If I had a bike I could make it to the nearest store 3 miles away. Now I try walking sometimes but it has a BIG hill! Going down is a piece of cake but going up is a whole other story. Tee Hee

But truth be told Boise is spread out and I usually need to take the car everywhere.

I'd just rather walk.... I don't know how to ride a bike. Or a horse, for that matter.
When I lived in the city, I walked or took the bus everywhere. There was no parking anyway, and i had no car. Now that I live a smaller town, it's the car everywhere. I'm not crazy about it.

I prefer walking, but I love to ride my bike, but everything is car distance away.

I'd rather drive a car. (But if I lived in a town, I'd ride my bike a lot more. Where I live now, the nearest store is 8 miles away.)

The idea of riding a bike to destinations has always appealed to me. Our town is not very bike friendly, but I do see a few out trying to navigate traffic. There are some neat tricycle looking bikes out as well that seem very practical as they can carry packages etc. and not as much chance of falling or getting knocked over.
