I'm on the far west side, too. I'll have to check out the places you've mentioned. Thanks to both of you. =)

I agree with JET; the UW Arboretum by far is my favorite place to walk, but I have to drive there as I live on the far west side. I also agree with JET that the trails by the hospital are nice; I work by the AFCH and often walk the trails on my lunch hour.

Where do you live? I'm really only familiar with the area from the far west side & Middleton to just east of the downtown area. I live by Elver Park which has some really great trails, as in you get so into them you forget you're even in a city! Many of them are grassy too (rather than paved or gravel) which gives it a whimsical feel.
Hoyt Park and Quarry Park are so near each other and in residential areas that i usually combine the 2 when I walk there. And I haven't been there yet, but this spring I hope to go to Owen park on Old Sauk Rd-hear it's really nice.

I am in the central part of town, so I enjoy the Arboretum, the bike path that runs along Wingra Drive from Vilas Park east along the creek, going over to campus and walking along the lakeshore path or out to Picnic Point. I walk a lot for errands too, so I like to walk downtown or over to Penzey's on University Ave.
Any bike path generally makes for good walking too.

I want to start walking more and don't really like walking on the side of the road (always worried about cars hitting me!) so I was wondering if you guys have some trails around Madison that you like using/that are particularly scenic, etc. Any ideas? I'd really appreciate it.
