Nothing like waiting til the end of the month to catch up. We were without Internet access at home and I've been working overtime. So even when I could get online, more computer time at home was pretty low on my list of fun ideas.
Gail, I'm so sorry to hear about Vic. I am glad to hear about your happy birthday, and agree it was amazingly kind of April to help you. She is our volunteer queen, and a blessing.
To all of you who are recuperating, I'm sending good thoughts your way too.
Yes, I am counting the days to retirement. It's still bittersweet. I don't think we are as emotionally and financially ready as we would like to be. At the same time, I know I am very, very fortunate to be able to make this choice at this time I this climate for state workers.
I hung all my wash out today and it dried quickly in that wind. My eating has not been the best. And now it feels like I'm babbling.
Looking forward to talking with you all more on the May thread!

Good Afternoon:

Actually, it's a really good afternoon. April came over today to help me clean/sanitize the house. This week was so draining emotionally and physically, there is no way I could have done it without her. Please read my blog, April, it's dedicated to you.

I'm headed for the shower, and then I'm going to put my feet up.

Enjoy the weekend.

Dear Friends:

I'm falling apart. Vic had to go in for a transfusion today and all his numbers are down from last week. I'm using the computer at the hospital right now and will go back to the infusion center after I post, as soon as I can pull myself together. Please send good energy and/or prayers for him; he really doesn't desserve this. I'm just heartbroken. I have NO energy and I'm numb.

Tomorrow I'm taking a 6 hour Insurance course in Janesville at Blackhawk Tech. Perhaps it's just as well; it will keep my off my woes for a while.

Love to all of you and thank you for letting me cry on your shoulders.

Thanks for the well wishes Kathleen. My infusion was today. I'm getting to be a pro at handling the side effects. So tonight was an easy left over supper and tomorrow I have nothing concrete planned so I can take it easy if I need to.

I watched Extreme Couponing tonight on TLC channel. I was really intrigued by how they can have $400 worth of groceries and only pay a few $. Well, first all the people I saw tonight were overweight or obese and this one gal got mostly pizza, candy and soda for her shopping trip. No fruits and veggies. It's one thing to be a bargain hunter but another to be a slave to the bargain. This one gal has a ton of diapers for ther child she might have someday! It did shed a light on checking out the internet for extra ecoupons at my local stores but I don't think I'll be saving $300 on my grocery list. :}

Well, hope you all had a great day, I'm hitten the hay!

April, I hope your infusion went well. Did it already happen? I agree about the hospital food. If you are talking about UW Hospital, I have a very hard time staying away from the ice cream, muffins and fried foods. Today I had a muffin, then DH brought home 4 blueberry muffins from Woodman's. So I guess I will be eating muffins for a while and will have to watch calories elsewhere. Tomorrow is salad day for me so that'll be good.

The good thing is that I had a great stay-at-home vacation, despite the cold and rainy weather. The bad thing is, this week my vacation is over and I had to go back to work. But it has been going OK so far. I have been tired though. Wishing everyone a great evening.

I was surprised today. I had labs drawn yesterday and this afternoon Hematology called and said I needed an iron infusion. Usually it takes a week to get an infusion scheduled after labs are drawn. I'm sad to have to post pone my get together with Gail. I'm sorry for the late notice but I'm so glad we can still get together Saturday morning. So I am packing my lunch and making sure I have a movie in the lap top to pass time. I have tried crocheting during the 5 hours but I am also on Benadryl so that ends up being a bit of a mess. :}
Well, going to watch Biggest Loser to keep me inspired to not eat the baked goods at the Hospital. I really wish they would have airplane quality food intead of the yummy in the tummy food they have there.

Have a great night!

Good Morning:

I'm really concerned about Vic. He's been sleeping a lot since his last round of chemo. I'm wondering if he will need a transfusion or if his body is just readjusting to getting treatments.

Last night we went to a good friend's for Easter Dinner. It is always nice to be part of celebrations with good friends.

Hope you all had a good Easter and that the week ahead is especially bright.

Good Morning:

I haven't been on the computer much because I've been having a lot of pain in my left arm/shoulder. When I sit at the computer it can get worse, though even in bed or sitting in a chair resting my arm often doesn't help. I'm going to call to make an appointment next week if it doesn't let up. I injured my arms a couple of years ago when Vic was very ill. I was doing a lot of heavy stuff including lifting and I might have torn something. PT helped ....my right arm/shoulder healed completely.... but the left side never got to 100%, and without exercise it got worse again.

Wishing you all a Happy Easter,

Gail

Yesterday was busy! I volunteered at the Police Station, went to the health club for a workout with my training group then went to Zumba. Even though I was tired, I love zumba. It's music just lifts my spirits. I got home, delivered some Avon and then met the family at the Pine Cone for Mom's birthday supper. Not the best place for healthy eating. I did my pretty good with my choices. I even turned down a bite of mom's free pecan pie with ice cream as a birthday treat. Man that looked good!

Today I have water aerobics, visit with my neighbor, mail Easter cards and do some house cleaning. Have a great day. It's starting out nice and sunny! Woo Hoo!

Thanks so much for the birthday wishes. Actually, it's been a wonderful whirlwind since the weekend. My sister came in from Florida and stayed till Monday. Tuesday I had a massage...a gift from my kids. Today another friend who couldn't make the surprise party this weekend came by with a gift and lunch goodies. I'm just settling down...

Catch up with you all later.

Hi! Sorry I've been MIA. I went to the Horse Show Saturday...11,000 steps on the pedometer :} Sunday Don and I are working on remodeling our side porch. pretty pooped today. I'll be back to posting on Emily's B-day Challenge tomorrow. I did eat good Saturday. Stayed away from the funnel cakes that looked and smelled wonderful. So hard to eat non deep fried at those things. Had a baked potatoe with chili for lunch and a hamburger for supper then some kettle corn during the Grand Prix show.

Glad to see the sun this afternoon. Good luck Janey!

Got some very good news. We've had several bad hail storms in our neighborhood this year and the roofers are doing a phenomenal business. All up and down our street people are having their roof repaired or replaced. We put on a new roof in 2002 and Vic insisted on getting something really good. We got a roof that was guaranteed for 50 years and could withstand 80 mile an hour winds. I thought he was insane; the roof would definitely outlive us. Guess what folks....in the years since, we've had at least 2 very bad hail storms, tornadoes, high winds, and heavy snows every year. Every year you see the roofers. Well, I had the roofer come out to see if we had damage. NONE. Even the vents and eaves were in great shape. What a relief.

Going to start reading some new authors this week. When I find one I like I read everything by him/her in the order of publication. Mysteries are the best escape for me, but I don't like anything gory.

Enjoy your day everyone.

April: I've got to get out to Token Creek and check out that walking path. Sounds lovely.
As for your beauty treatments ...Woo Hoo You've got to post some new pictures so we can see how great you look.

Gail, token creek is flat. You can walk grassy trails, a boardwalk that is going through the creek and you can also walk the driveway. It's just so nice and close for us to get a quick outting in.

I am busy getting back into the routine of things this week. Had a mani/pedi Monday and got my gray hairs colored today. I've been working out pretty hard too. I saw my hematologist Tues and she walked into the room them excused herself and walked out again. ?? Then she came back in and appologized for not recognizing! Woo Hoo! she is now my favorite doctor :}

We use an accountant, and paid $450 for entire federal and state preparation and filing. It was multiple pages.

Yes, Gail, sorry I've been absent, have been under the weather for a little while. My daughter missed 2 days of school and still doesn't have much of a voice (sore throat and cough are done though, luckily). I had the same thing to a lesser degree and it felt sort of flu-ish, even though we both got the shot. Under the weather in other ways too. I just have not felt much of myself or had much energy. Other people I know are going through the same thing. Spring fever??

Thanks for asking after me. I hope everyone is having a good night.

Just passing through....keeping the foot up and resting alot... I use Turbo Tax to do my taxes and have for years so I don't know the going rate for an accountant....$1000 per page seems prohibitive....Hope you all got out and enjoyed the day....

Good Morning:

Well, it's supposed to get to 70 today but the temps will plunge thirty degrees or more tonight. Might as well enjoy it while it lasts. Hope to get to the gym today.

Vic finished the federal taxes last night and will do the state taxes today. That shouldn't take too long because most line items are copied from the federal forms. I'll be so glad when that's behind us. UGH. Hey, speaking of taxes, do any of you use an accountant? A friend told me he pays $1,000 a page. I was astounded. Is that the going rate? We itemize so we have several pages. Our costs at that rate would be prohibitive.

Enjoy your day and love for all.

Gail

Emily: I only do the elliptical...well, almost always... because I can burn the most calories in the shortest time. I don't ache or hurt any more because I've been doing it for a few years. Also, my legs are like iron. No flab.

April: I never went walking around Token Creek. Sounds nice. How is the terrain? I don't do well with inclines so I look for flat walking paths.

Jeanette: Counting the days I bet. Have you made any plans following retirement?

Kathleen: How are things going? We haven't heard from you in a few days?

Janey: Hope you are feeling well this morning and are on the mend.

Christina: How are you doing? How's your little guy? Is he with a relative or in day care?

Laurie: What's new on your end? You hanging in there?

emoticon Thanks you for all your well wishes and prayers. I am home from surgery and all went well. The nerve block is still in effect so can't really feel my foot....I have been given pain medication that I am to start taking shortly but I will put me right to sleep.

Next appointment is in a week when I will get my cast off and begin using a "walking" boot.

Good Afternoon:

Janey, I'm so glad your surgery is over and done with. Be patient and don't try to do too much too soon; you'll only sabotage yourself. You are in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery.

Emily: Hope you heal soon. Must be so hard, especially with a small child.

I got to the gym today and had a good workout on the elliptical. It's been a while. Last week I got in 3 short, wimpy workouts and felt guilty.

Enjoy the evening.

You are in my prayers Janey! Sorry to hear about your stress fracture too Emily. Hope both of you heal quickly so we can start walking.

I did aerobics yesterday morning and then in the afternoon Don and I went for a walk at Token Creek. I'm glad I took my resistance bands and walked around the pond at the condo or I would be in a world of hurt.
I'm back tracking and on schedule. Have a great Monday.

i was trying to get a good burn going yesterday. it's much tougher with the stress fracture :(

i spent 30 minutes on the recumbent bike, but 1) I HATE IT and 2) it didn't do much for me. At all.

we met some friends at governor nelson state park and went for a long walk. it was very pleasant, but i think i overdid, because when i got home i could barely walk. i did the RICE treatment for the rest of the night. rest, ice, compression and elevate.

janey, i don't know how you keep sane with your fully broken foot. i still have a foot i can walk on (carefully) and i am whiney because i can't do the efficient activities anymore.

but i did get a good burn!

Good Afternoon:

Taking it easy today. It's noon and I'm still not dressed. I would like to get to the gym and library, but don't know if that will happen. BTW, one of my goals was to get to the gym 3x week and I made it last week. Not too shabby. Hope I can keep it up.

Well, I figured out I am in no condition to take insurance exams at this point. So I enrolled in a couple of Continuing Education courses (12 credits in all) at two of the local technical colleges. If you take the course in person there is no exam. One course is a go. The other may be canceled if they don't get two more students. Wish me luck.

Good Afternoon:

Vic and I are going to a concert this evening. It should be wonderful. There is a champagne reception afterward. WOO HOO.

Vic will start his April round of chemo on Monday. His numbers are going down a bit and I find he gets tired a bit sooner. Still, he's quite independent and has been tackling the taxes since yesterday.

Speaking of the chemo, take a look at the blog I wrote today. His shots cost $3,000 each. That's $30,000 a month! Luckily we have Medicare and an HMO, so we don't pay anything out of pocket.

Wishing you all a great evening and weekend.

Gail

Janey: You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Em: So sorry you are down and out for the count. I hope your foot heals soon.

Good Evening:

Sorry I've been MIA. Vic had an appointment today with the hematologist. His numbers are going down, but that's what happened when he first started; things got worse before they got better and it took 4 months before the tide turned. He's feeling all right, but is slowly getting a little more tired. His red cell count is down a bit and that accounts for it. Right now he's doing taxes....YUCK.

I spent almost 15 hours working at the polls on Tuesday and needed all day yesterday (I'm not kidding) to recuperate. We had two wards to cover. One had over a 60% turnout and the other had over a 40% turnout. That's HUGE folks. There was a steady stream of people all day and several who needed to register before they could vote. The people I worked with were very, very nice.

My best to you all.

Gail

Janey: I'm here rooting for you. Hope everything goes smoothly.

Morning all....went to the doc and I have been scheduled for surgery for next Monday. Following surgery, I will not be allowed to put any pressure on my foot for at least 8 days. So for the next few weeks, there will be literally minimal cardio for me. I can do upper body work outs but not necessarily my favorite.....So I will do my best to watch my calories and nutrition very carefully to see what I can do here.....

Fun, fun, fun! Since I am already going crazy on my limited mobility, any suggestions on how to pass the time especially next week would be much appreciated!

Janey, I hope it went OK at the dr's. When I had a fractured knee they had me doing arm cycle exercise at the gym. Not sure if you belong to a gym, but just an idea. I also did it when my shoulder was hurting and it helped!

Doesn't spring seem late this year? I haven't seen some of the plants popping up that I usually see. I'm very tired too. Hoping for some new energy to come along with the warmer temps.

Unreal! I fell down and broke my foot last night...can you believe it...So my exercise will be very limited for a while! It also looks like I may need surgery to repair it....

So anyone got any ideas for some seated exercises? I am so bummed!

Well, my best friend and I are officially on vacation. We got a condo in the Dells but not in town. We both are watching what we are eating and she is trying to get to the very close 50# loss goal. So we grocery shopped and got good stuff to eat. Then last night she hauled out her Easter candy mega pmsing candy! She got tropical fruit jelly beans, gummy butterflies, white choc. malted milk balls and reeces peanutbutter easter eggs! We did eat and talk and talk and eat last night but I am feeling the effects this morning. ugh! I don't think I'll try the hair of the dog on this candy hangover. I will hit the gym today or walk if it isn't too yucky out this morning. I guess it could be worse, here could be a pizza place within walking distance. I would be a gonner then! Internet here is slow so I won't be posting much and I'll take a week off of Emily's birthday challenge but I do have some Sp videos loaded, the gym and the pond to walk around. I'll just have to try and stay away from the candy counter! Have a great week everyone!

This wasn't a prank, but my older son was born on April 1. Several of our friends didn't believe us when we called them from the hospital, so they called back to the main phone to make sure we were really there.

Yesterday a friend got a call from her son at school saying that he broke his leg in gym class...she was in a panic...and of course it was an April Fools...Her huband put him up to it!

We are now trying to help her think of ways to get even!

the best one is one that my old coworker's husband did to her.

while she was sleeping, he set all the clocks in the house forward. and her watch. and the clock in her car.

so she gets up, gets ready, goes to work and sees that it is really 6am. hahahaha. aces!

Good Morning:

I pulled an April Fool on Vic several years ago...I was 53. Any way, I told him I was pregnant. By the look on his face I thought he'd have a heart attack. Finally, after a very long minute or two I said," APRIL FOOL!"

my son came into our room at 1 am and for the next hour put his feet in my back, whined, squeaked, bothered.

i finally gave up and came to the couch, but i couldn't get back to sleep. when i finally fell back asleep, it feels like it was almost time to get up.

i am a crabby, crabby momma.
