yes, art in any form reaches into our soul and gives us some kind of peace or meditation. I believe it is a gift from God to experience creating. Enjoy the blessing

I sketched again and drew two more sketches this week. I forget how therapeutic it can be, just sketching with a pencil for 20 minutes. It's so calming. Anyway, I will keep working on sketching as they are not good enough to show.

Wow. Those are so pretty and in time for Valentine's Day. Will your church have some sort of craft fair where you can sell them ? They are so pretty.

great job on the portrait! you shade wonderfully!

I haven't been drawing much lately, or reading other than scriptures. I create a video for our church every week that presents a psalm. They have been a good encourager. This week I am working on Psalm 18. I have also been working with my glass, but that is hard to keep doing since I end up with glass plates and bowls and where do I put them all????

Here are some of the things I finished lately. I am working on one more, trying different techniques

I pulled out my book that I was reading from CS Lewis. the Space trilogy. I am on the 2nd book and I opened the last page and starting drawing. I decided I was going to Draw the main character. He is sort of an Adam but for outer space. My words , not anyone else's words. I put a crown made of crosses on him because he is a hero, trying to protect other planets from other human's materialism and greed. CS Lewis is amazing. Maybe we can do sketches and post them when the fancy hits us.

thanks for the vent session! and for all your nice replies!

Yes, the Covid issue is the biggest downer in all of my complaints and I see the lock down of everything being a big part of every downer I have. I appreciate the prayers and trust that God has a purpose in everything. I believe that once things open back up there will be more opportunities for the desires in my heart.

Thanks for being a friend from afar! You are a blessing!

I can't simplify your problems with a some silly one sentence answer.

But I might try it. :-)

1. My heart breaks hearing this. We go to our church and attendance is down, but not down to 10. I am for praying this one. I hope it is Covid issues and people come back and want to connect to each other again. Why would your book keeper quit?

2. Nothing can stop you from calling them. Even when they don't want to hear from you. :-) I call my mom a lot. If she wasn't there I would be pretty lonely. I didn't start calling her until her mother died. I think I started calling her when I was about 42. We didn't talk a lot before then. I was so busy with the kids. Now my kids are teenagers and I am not in their lives like I used to be. I will pray that they call you.

3. Art is never a waste of time. It's therapeutic I think. It is nice to have a reason to do it, like an exhibit or craft fair coming up. Is there something in the spring that still might happen where you can sell your art? If I don't have a concert, I start to ask "what's the point?" I get why you thinking that way. Luckily the church asked me to play on the 17th of January. I started making reeds for my instrument again. I was practicing most days, but not making reeds at all. My mom in law is a amateur photographer and she is good at it. She has exhibits even during this time. And puts her work in the Chicago Tribune and wins the photo contests they have. Is there something in the paper you could submit your work too? You got jilted on your retirement. It should have been more fun for you. There has to be some art contest somewhere, especially in California. It is such an arty place.

4 Senior centers are closed right now, but they have art classes you can teach at. If you want to teach seniors to paint, try your local recreation center. Also, you could teach at craft stores, like Michael's or Hobby Lobby. They would love you! They are open now. Just a thought if you are looking for something to do. Or Painting with a Twist.... they are open too. But you have to do only the paintings they are copyrighted to do where the others you can do anything.

5. I heard recently that pistachios have an amazing amount of melatonin in them to help you sleep. I might try that myself.

6 there is no such thing as a Debbie Downer during Covid. Someone on Spark said that she lets' go of anything that isn't inside her hula hoop. I thought about that. It is sad to see so many changes so quickly. Some of my favorite shops are gone now. Restaurants that we normally see are also on their way out, some I don't care about, but it is all related. So even a restaurant or shop I would never eat or shop at, I don't want to see leave.

7 Yes, I love your last few sentences. He never changes and we can depend on him. Maybe we should draw or paint something about that and share it here. What do you think?

thank you for your response, you are correct in the fact that other things influence us to eat. I think what is bothering me are the following issues. I hope you don't mind me venting about them.

1. our church attendance is down to around 10 people, which means our church giving has come to a substantial halt. My husband is pastor and our church bookkeeper quit, so I have been balancing the books. We aren't even supposed to be meeting officially here in Ca. so I don't see much hope for new people coming. There seems to be a general uninterest in helping or contributing. My husband planted this church and it feels like it is dying after 21 years. My heart breaks.

2. My children don't seem to value us. There is very little communication with us, they are simply living their own lives. My middle daughter (the one with all the issues) is back with her husband, but he wants nothing to do with us (we think it is because we are so sold out to God and Christ). He is living a lifestyle of drugs and drinking and we are a reminder of his sin even though we would never say anything to him. We feel that we are insignificant in their eyes.

3. My art galleries are closing up or not productive. I have lived and breathed art for so many years and have such a huge inventory of work that I don't want to create more (where will I put it??), If I can't market it then it is hard for me to justify making more. But, I love to create and so with every project I consider comes guilt of adding more stuff to my mess or the feeling of it being a total waste of my time.

4. I retired and now I have no one interested in learning... and no way to get out into the public to share my knowledge. I know that is bothering me.

5. I don't sleep ( not sure if that is a result of being older) I have other medical issue and concerns that come with age. Plus, just being older I have lost both my parents and know that I am at that point in my own life, both my husband and I.

Maybe it really is just the fact that we have been isolated because of all the Covid insanity. I am sure that things will improve. I think I have just been a Debbie Downer lately. Thanks for letting me vent, it does help to put it down and reflecting upon my anxieties. They really are nothing when I have the Lord and He is my might. I depend on Him with my whole heart. He is in control of all things and I know I can depend upon Him.

LOOK I feel better already!!

You obviously do care. You have been here on spark more lately. I think that is why you over ate. You are thinking more about control in your eating, which you subconsciously don't want to do, and that is why you over ate or possibly...

You might be having something stressful happening to you in the day and then comfort yourself at night. Can you comfort yourself in a different way?

I didn't sleep two nights ago and yesterday was a train wreck for me in the afternoon when I grew the most tired. I waited until everyone left the kitchen after just coming home from the Olive Garden and ate a piece of pie and several cookies. I was physically hurting from exhaustion. The best thing I should have done was go to bed. Sometimes I do not reward myself with the thing I actually need the most.

When I am stressed about ...

. a performance, I eat instead of practice.

I am super cold and eat something warm (I have already eaten) instead of putting on a jacket.

I am tired and eat instead of sleep.

I am going to ask myself what do I really need instead of eating to comfort myself.

It is harder if your issue is with someone else. If you need to talk to that someone causing you stress, that is difficult unless you are direct with them, which causes stress. Sometimes that is my issue. Instead of saying something to my husband, I might eat something. I am not a direct person which hurts me in dealing with my problems.

In sharing your issues, it brought light to my issues with eating. Thank you for that. I will ask myself the important question of what I need the most at the time.

I have been over eating lately, mainly out of control at night. I am not sure why, but I feel like I don't care and eat anyway. I pray to get back into control, I don't want to gain any weight back!
